Navigating Hate Speech Online: A Unitarian Universalist Approach 🌈
In today's digital age, hate speech online has become a pervasive issue, impacting individuals and communities across the globe. As Unitarian Universalists, we are called to uphold the inherent worth and dignity of every person, even in the face of hateful rhetoric. Here are some tips on how to combat hate speech online while maintaining your mental and emotional well-being:
🚫 Do Not Engage: It can be tempting to respond to hate speech directly, but engaging with it often leads to further conflict and negativity. Instead, practice restraint and focus on constructive actions.
✋ Use the Block and Report Features: Social media platforms provide tools to help combat hate speech. Utilize the block and report features to prevent further exposure to harmful content and to notify the platform of violations.
🤝 Seek Support: Dealing with hate speech can be emotionally draining. Reach out to friends, family, or your Unitarian Universalist community for support. Talking about your feelings can help you process them and feel less alone.
💬 Promote Positivity: Counteract hate speech by sharing positive and uplifting content. Spread messages of love, acceptance, and understanding to create a more compassionate online environment.
🌟 Educate Yourself and Others: Take the time to educate yourself about the impact of hate speech and the importance of combating it. Share this knowledge with others to raise awareness and promote change.
🔍 Monitor Your Online Activity: Pay attention to how much time you spend online and how it affects your mental health. Take breaks when needed and prioritize activities that bring you joy and relaxation.
As Unitarian Universalists, we are committed to creating a world where all people are valued and respected. By taking proactive steps to combat hate speech online, we can help build a more inclusive and compassionate online community. Together, we can make a difference.

Social media is a place where people should be free to be who they want to be away from hate and harm. Use your platform, no matter how big or small to help fight against hate, trolls, and those who choose to use their platform for violence.

The Murphy & His Cool Hat Crack Ship Name Game!
Right, I know I’ll regret this (who am I kidding, but @tickldpnk8 tempted me to write down all the terrible, terrible Murphy and His Cool Hat/Dream x Helm crack ship names I already turned over in my head. But then again, I think she totally banked on the fact I’d do that.
Explanatory note: These are combinations of Dream, Morpheus, Murphy, Endless X Helm(et), Hat, Cool Hat, Cthulhu (because there was some sort of agreement the thing was possessed by Cthulhu or some other Lovecraftian creature). They’re all really terrible (some more inspired than others)—befitting of a crack ship:
Dream:
DroolHat (terrible name, true tho)
DrCoolHat (I don’t even know where to start…)
Drat (Dr. Seuss would love that one I guess)
HelDream (too close to other pairings IMHO)
Morpheus:
Morphelm
Morphelmet
Morpheat (I mean, despite pronunciation-issues, I don’t even know if the associations I’m getting here are temperature- or oral-fixation related—both fine I guess?)
Cthulheus
(W)Horpheus (works with or without the W 🤣)
Helmetheus (has a certain promethean ring to it)
Murphy (they’re all meh):
Murphat
Muhulhu
Harphy/Hurphy (gives me nightmares and indigestion somehow)
Murp(h)elmet
Helmurphy
Endless:
EndHelm
HelmEnd (almost like Bellend 🛎️, very fitting)
Endlet (awww!)
EndHat
HatEnd
EndlessHat (pronunciation is key here)
Endlesshulhu (sounds like bad reality TV)
If all the instigators and (early) adopters want to add their own, we can narrow it down and do a poll 🤣
@marlowe-zara @so-i-grudgingly-joined-this-site @roguelov @ginoeh @throwingbread (sorry if I added the wrong people and forgot the right ones, I honestly lost track at some point. Just chime in if you hear the call—the more, the merrier).

“The holiness of us Jews is that we never hate.” - Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach z’l ✨
Not much has changed since the Yom Kippur War. 💔 It’s understandably easy to get caught in the cycle of combating hatred by highlighting and lamenting it. 😡
Yet, Rabbi Shlomo’s legacy teaches us a different path – one of profound insight and resilience. As we confront the resurgence of antisemitism, Rabbi Shlomo understood, and I believe we should learn from him, that while acknowledging hatred is crucial, true change comes from spreading love and light as best taught in the Torah. 🕊️
Let us honor his memory by embracing his message: combatting darkness with the enduring power of positivity, peace, and spirituality. ❤️ 🌟

The Peril of Hatred: A Lesson from History
The dangerous and unpatriotic trend of fostering hatred for opponents must be challenged. As a nation, we must engage in respectful discourse and seek common ground. Let's strive for unity and understanding rather than division and animosity. #EndHate #Unity #Respect In the annals of history, the consequences of unbridled hatred and animosity have left indelible scars on nations and societies. The haunting echoes of this destructive force have reverberated through time, reminding us of the perils of allowing blind hatred to fester within our hearts. One striking example that illustrates this is the bitter enmity between ancient warring factions, a conflict that plunged a once-thriving civilization into the abyss of ruin and despair. The seeds of discord sown by fervent enmity ultimately led to the demise of an empire that had once stood as a beacon of progress and prosperity. The lesson from this harrowing chapter of history is clear: the festering venom of unyielding hatred not only destroys the fabric of unity but also undermines the very essence of patriotism. It is a stark warning that we must heed, for the legacy of animosity is one that casts a long, dark shadow over the collective soul of a nation. Let us recognize the danger of allowing animosity to take root and instead nurture the spirit of unity and cooperation, for it is in embracing our shared humanity that we safeguard the future of our nation and honor the true essence of patriotism.

Hashtags that relate to the topic
There was not alot of information to do with hashtags that are used on social media but these are some I found and I have the links to where I got my resources from at the end.
#IAsk
#IAsk is the theme of the Sexual Assault Awareness Month, and the National Sexual Violence Resource Center has a library of resources for spreading the message about asking for and respecting consent. They have social media shareable graphics with simple messages about consent such as “Consent is a skill, you get better as you practice.” The NSVRC also hosts a #30DaysofSAAM contest on Instagram with open ended prompts related to preventing sexual violence and supporting survivors that any Instagram user can participate in.
#1Thing
The National Resource Center on Domestic Violence created #1Thing for Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which mobilizes people and communities to commit to one thing they can do to prevent domestic violence and support survivors. Social media share graphics include prevention education messages like the importance of modeling respect and equity in various types of relationships.
#BoldMoves
The California Coalition Against Sexual Assault‘s campaign is #BoldMoves, which is also a full website with ways everyone can learn small actions that translate to bold moves that prevent and end sexual harassment, abuse, and assault. Bold moves for prevention can be actions, questions, and conversations that everyone can do to change the culture to one without violence and that supports safety and healing for all
#DontStandBy
NO MORE and Uber partnered to create #DontStandBy, a call to Uber riders and drivers and others to be active bystanders in rideshares, nightlife, and elsewhere to ensure everyone has a safe, fun experience free from sexual violence. #DontStandBy offers scenarios, resources, and safety tips for how to intervene and support friends and others to prevent sexual violence.
#ItsNotOkay
Women are sharing their experiences of sexual violence on social media under the hashtahg #ItsNotOkay to mark Sexual Abuse and Sexual Violence Awareness Week, which started on Monday.
The hashtag was created to raise awareness and tackle the stigma that discourages people from openly discussing sexual assault and abuse and has already garnered thousands of responses from individuals around the globe and UK police forces.

Our bodies are not who we are. Our souls are who we are. We don't "have a soul", we ARE a soul. Our bodies are nothing more than a temporary vessel in which we use to experience humanity.
Believing that our skin, our sex organs, or any other physical attribute is "who we are" is entirely false. Sure, it can contribute to our upbringing and becomes a part of what are egos are, but we are also not our egos.
Our egos are a tool for survival. It isn't bad to have an ego. It is what we choose to use that tool for that can make it bad. Like an axe. An axe isnt a weapon until you choose to use it as one. The ego becomes what our experiences are. Ego seeks to divide and separate. Souls seek to connect and become one.
The more we believe we are different from eachother because of biological differences, the more harm we cause to not only ourselves but others. We are all an expression of the same source.
We are putting limitations on ourselves by feeling the need to label ourselves, when in fact, humans are too complex to put into categories, both externally and internally.
We all came here to experience life on earth. And letting small differences like such is causing us to hinder our own personal growth and the growth of the collective.
Our evolution is dependent on our collective concious, our revolution is a conscious revolution. Change requires awareness, becoming aware of ourselves is becoming aware of everything else.
We are the lightworkers, the starseeds, the indigos, the healers. We must know peace to achieve peace. It all comes from within ourselves. Judging, hating, fearing is what's stopping us from all truly living.
We all know how to survive, it's time for us to thrive. And that requires acceptance for everyone . You don't have to like a person to be kind to them. Stop the hate, and just be. Let others just be.

The work is not done. We must work together to end white supremacy. Together we can change the world for the better. Keep talking. Keep sharing. Keep listening. Keep learning. Keep growing. Now is not the time to bury your head back in the sand but to stand up. To take what you have learned and apply it. Ending racism starts with us speaking up. It starts with those in power displaying a zero tolerance policy for hate. I know it’s hard. I know it’s scary. But you’re not alone and we can build a better tomorrow. #stopasianhate #blacklivesmatter #dismantlewhitesupremacy #endhate #bethechange #youcandoit https://www.instagram.com/p/CMvVz9WJW7p/?igshid=1doqmaky28yn2
