So, today I was hired as the head leader of one of the graduation project groups. I was literally praying for this role, and I hope I don't disappoint myself before anyone else. I will have to translate, edit, supervise and submit the whole group work by May 3rd—along with an individual research paper. We're going to translate a book about translation.
Am I excited? Yes. Am I nervous? Hell fucking I am. But I really wanted this and I don't wanna ruin it. Wish me luck, I'm finally gonna do something I want to be proud of.

I've very much been in a classic lit mood lately. Since the beginning of the year really, watching one version of Jane Austen's adaptation after the other, then other BBC adaptations of different novels. I'm halfway through reading Mansfield Park for the first time.
Despite a full degree in English studies, as far as classics go, I haven't studied that many. Too many classes put the exact same books on their syllabus one year after the other, often during the same semester, so there was no real diversity of authors and stories except in classes that were meant to welcome diversity like African-American lit and Sexuality and Representation. I am still so salty about that Travel Lit class that focused only on Shakespeare, a man who have never set foot outside of England himself.
So I haven't read a lot of classics. I read a single Jane Austen novel (Northanger Abbey, which I adored). I read Jane Eyre, Frankenstein, a grand total of 4 Shakespeare plays (Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth, Hamlet and King Lear), The Great Gatsby (which I still hate) and one Hemingway that I can't remember. We mainly studied classics through bits and pieces rather than the full text.
Now, I do think there is merit to studying other novels and plays than the classics. But I still think they have their place too, and I've been working on filling the blanks my degree left me with for a while now, so being in a mood for those classics at the moment feels enriching to me. I think I'd like to write about them when I'm done reading them. Stretch that essay writing muscle once again. I think it would be fun.

7 Days of Productivity - 1/7
Today I'm starting my days of productivity challenge. I need all the encouragement so I'm starting with a very low number and once I will have completed this one, I'll up the goal.
This Monday started slow. I didn't manage to do much during the morning if not complete a reading for my Gender, Sexuality and Culture module and attend two workshops, one to help decide what career we might want to pursue after university and the other one was my the comunicación class for my intensive Spanish module.
After that, I had to take a break and head back to my flat to rest a little bit. I am coming down with a cold, so I felt the need to nap and eat something nice and warming.
In the afternoon I had the Gender, Sexuality and Culture lecture. This is a module that is labelled as humanities in general, so each week we'll explore the same topic through different lenses. This week is history, but we'll also have some lessons that concentrate on the literature aspects of it, philosophy, physiology and so on. It has been a very interesting module so far.
After this lecture, I had to go rest for a while again. But around 7pm, I convinced myself to go to the library and get some work done. Tomorrow we're going to have a screening for the 'Duchess of Malfi', so I really wanted to finish reading the play tonight. And so I did. I'm glad I convinced myself to be productive and go to the library. It's the second time that I go later in the evening and I manage to get a lot done, so I'm thinking of keeping this up. It looks like I'm more able to concentrate in the evening than during the day.
Overall, a good productive Monday :)

02.11.2023 | 5/100 days of productivity 😌
1. antes eu imprimia as letras todas do cd, amo, mas hoje por estar sem impressora, fiz o pdf no tablet mesmo;
3. pesquiso essas palavras, o significado delas e se eu não entender, ai sim traduzo, mas lembra que essa é a última opção;
4. escuto a música acompanhando e lendo, as vezes cantarolando (depende do meu humor);
5. por fim, cantar junto com a mulher. aqui eu pauso bastante caso eu perceba que minha pronúncia tá meio bleh ou se eu me atrapalho falando duas palavras juntas, por exemplo;

Phonetic: Linguistics is the formal study of language. Its main subdisciplines are:  sociolinguistics, the study of language in its social context; semantics, the study of meaning;  syntax, the study of sentence structure; pragmatics, the study of meaning in context; morphology, the study of word structure; sociolinguistics, the study of language in its social context; phonology, the study of sound systems; and phonetics, the study of the sounds of speech Phonetics is sometimes seen as not properly linguistic, because it is the outward, physical manifestation of the main object of linguistic research, which is language (not speech), and language is abstract. #englishlessonsclass

I've been out of university for a little more than a year now. How strange it is that I miss writing essays, digging into texts for hidden nuggets of wisdom. I've been a much better writer of fiction for it, at the very least, but my brain still itches at times for something a little more challenging. There is satisfaction in interpreting the words of others. Forging sentences with our own words is as satisfying, just in a different way, like turning a knob on another setting.
Take the girl out of academia all you want, academia still clings to me like ghosts. And I am not afraid.
