spring break was amazing! road tripped across the country and ate so much good food along the way. still deciding between graduate schools but i think i know who i'm going to pick... just waiting on one more thing.

the view from my hotel room in TX was breathtaking. it reminded me a lot of high school, when i used to live in the desert and you just see the sprawling acres of land..all the houses spread out and pockets of neighborhoods.

met lots of great faculty, learned a lot about my potential future program, and even toured an apartment. i think i made the most of my couple days there. here's to the next trip: denver!

i love my lab at Michigan so far! they look at upper limb and lower limb prosthetics in many different aspects using regenerative peripheral nerve interfaces to integrate sensation and improving usability! i'm excited to see what project i end up liking the most and what i get to work on this summer.

let's be real, i'm never really done applying for things. there's another fellowship at UF that i'm interested in and there's a separate application for it...so guess what i'm cranking out before Wednesday? lol yep. luckily, its not complicated and i'm used to writing these types of essays.

i refuse to work on Wednesday, so lab is today and tomorrow. then we're FREE until early/mid january.

gave feedback on my lab mate's qualifying exam and i'm so proud :') can't believe that's going to be me in a few years lol

so this coming week is going to be my last week of academic work here at purdue. i'm going to finish my paper and submit it, then take my final exam on wednesday or thursday, then i'm DONE. after that? its just lab for the rest of april and may :))

my time at purdue is coming to an end AHHH can't wait to get out of here i do not like indiana

(Re) Introduction Post

I think its time to re-introduce myself for all the new peeps here! My name is Alexi and I am an incoming PhD student at Arizona State University for Biomedical Engineering!

A quick bio: I'm originally from California and I used to play a lot of sports, primarily softball until high school. I stopped playing because I started to fall out of love with it but it still holds a special place in my heart! I went to California State University, Long Beach and obtained my Bachelor's in Chemical Engineering in May 2022. Now, I'm finishing a post-baccalaureate research program at Purdue in Indiana and its been a wild ride. I love to read, be active, and try different coffee shops & restaurants.

I started this blog in HIGH SCHOOL (!?!) and its still going pretty strong. I use it as a space to keep me motivated, to give me different study techniques, and to meet so many cool people :) super happy to be here.

hello from this old photo of my chaotic desk energyyyy.

research lab has been a lot more doing things, which has been refreshing. i have been performing practice headplate surgeries on mice and although they haven’t been ideal or seamless, the mice have all been doing well! this coming week, i’ll be learning how to perform a craniotomy with the chronic electrode implant (AHHH!) and i’m very excited. but also very nervous because my PI will be the one teaching me.

in other news, i should be going to University of Michigan at the end of September to tour the area and potentially meet with faculty! i’m still arranging my travel accommodations but it seems like everything will fall into place. if not, i can say i tried...and will transition my energy to trying to visit CU Denver.

in terms of graduate school applications and fellowships, i feel like i’m making progress but not enough! UGH! but we’re just going to keep pushing <3 and trust the process.

What do you all prefer: Slack or Discord?? I use both, and I like Discord solely because adding different servers is a lot easier than adding workspaces in Slack.

i got accepted to present at WELocal in February! I'm so excited and this was just the extra push I needed to get through these research hiccups. i'll be doing a poster presentation and a 10 minute lightning talk! i've never given a 10 minute talk like this so i'm really excited ahhh

so, i'm applying for a travel grant to get my expenses covered. wish me luck!

Got assigned my first hw assignment for Process Control just now and it looks like it should be interesting. I'm very much looking forward to relaxing this weekend with a touch of productivity that isn't spinning my wheels over interview questions.
