Enoch sighed relieved seeing you sit alone by the tree. To be absolutely sure he looked around. Up and down hoping he wouldn’t encounter him. Behind him were Hugh and Fiona playing tag. Claire trying her best to join. Just a bit to his left he saw Olive helping Emma put the squirrel back up in the tree. Yet no annoying thing to be seen. Enoch plastered on a charming smile ready to make his way over to you. He took about three steps till he heard the annoying voice. – “Looking for me?” – Enoch turned his head upwards seeing the cat slide down a branch coming in view.
Enoch’s smile dropped, sighing deep. – “In your dreams furball.” – Enoch mocked back. The cat hissed loud dropping down in front of him. He came to sit down licking his paws. Enoch rolled his eyes at it, moving to go around it. The cat jumped aside blocking his path. It made Enoch groan annoyed, stepping more to the right.
The cat once again blocked his path to you. – “Let me through you furball!” – Enoch called out bothered. The cat licked his paw, then washed it behind his ear. – “If you say please.” – The cat answered plainly. It made Enoch boil, clenching his hand. – “Like hell!” – Enoch called out. The cat shuddered out a chuckle. – “See you getting all worked up over me.” – he responded.
“Y/n!” – Enoch called out having enough of his interruption. You jerked your head in his direction. – “Y/n!” – Enoch repeated waving his arms at you. The cat hissed loud jumping at him. Enoch stumbled backwards onto his back. The cat sitting on his chest. – “Get off!” – Enoch groaned out, wriggling to get the cat off him. The cat hissed again at him, pressing his paw firm onto his chest. – “Mister Fluffzpants.” – you said.
Instantly the cat turned to you, squinting its eyes to give you the sweetest expression. You bend down to pick your cat up. – “Are you playing with Enoch?” – you asked as you moved it close to your chest. Mr. Fluffzpants purred, snuggling his head against you. Enoch moved his upper body up. – “That thing is ferocious.” – he called out with a point. – “Mr. Fluffzpants?” – you answered confused looking down at your sweetest cat.
You pulled him up, pressing his cheek against yours. – “Look at him. He’s the cutest thing ever.” – you said as the cat purred against your cheek. The moment it stared down at Enoch disappeared all signs of cuteness. – “See!” – Enoch said desperately. You walked up to Enoch, offering him your hand. He took it letting you pull him up. You started brushing some dirt off him.
“There all better.” – you said. – “Y/n I…” – Enoch started taking your hand. – “Yes…” – you replied. – Au!” – Enoch blurted out pulling his hand away from you. Your eyes widened seeing the scratch marks on his hand. – “Mr. Fluffzpants!” – you called out looking sternly at the cat. – “That wasn’t very nice.”
You dropped the cat onto the ground. – “Hey!” – it called out feeling tossed away. – “Oh Enoch does it hurt?” – you asked taking his wounded hand gently into yours. Enoch tried to hide his smile of victory. You carefully touched it as Enoch flinched at the touch. – “He’s exaggerating.” – Mr. Fluffzpants called out. Enoch shook his head trying so hard not to show he actually was. – “Hush Mr. Fluffzpants.” – you said with a dismissive glare.
Enoch stuck his tongue out to the cat behind your back. The cat hissed as you hardened your glare. Mr. Fluffzpants laid down begging for forgiveness. – “Let me tend to you Enoch.” – you spoke taking him with you back to the house. Mr. Fluffzpants got up, narrowing his eyes on Enoch. – “You better sleep with one eye open boy.” – he purred out. He then ran after you as he barely left your side.
You led Enoch inside the pink manor darting out of the way of a running Bronwyn and Horace rushing down the stairs. You crossed over heading into the kitchen. You sat Enoch down by his shoulders on a chair. – “Does it hurt much?” – you asked looking in some cabinets for bandages. Enoch was about to speak when Mr. Fluffzpants hopped onto the counter. He glared at Enoch, tilting his head to the side. Enoch gulped nervously.
“Uhm...not so much anymore.” – he answered. You found some bandages noticing Mr. Fluffzpants. – “You behave.” – you said. – “As always.” – he answered lowering his head in a bow. You cleaned his wound and put a bandage on it. – “Perhaps a kiss?” – Enoch said boldly offering you his hand. – “Perhaps not.” – Mr. Fluffzpants called out. You smiled touching Enoch’s nose. – “You are teasing me.” – you spoke as Enoch smiled nervously at his missed opportunity.
You rubbed Mr. Fluffzpants on his head before heading out. – “I’d watch your back O’Connor.” – The cat said showing him his claws. Enoch puffed loud. – “You better watch yours furball!” – he responded getting up. – “When you are dead I’ll toy with your body for funs.” – Enoch called out before darting out of the kitchen.
The cat gasped loud. – “You foul monster!” – Mr. Fluffzpants shouted dipping down the counter onto the ground. – “I shall have your eyes scratched out. Playing with your guts like a ball of wool!” – he shouted standing in the hallway. Miss Peregrine who had just left her study, cleared her throat. Mr. Fluffzpants chuckled nervously, dipping his head down. Miss Peregrine watched him run off like a scaredy cat. On his way he knocked over a jar. It crashed down, glass shattering around.
The cat gasped loud, stopping briefly in his tracks with a raised paw. Miss Peregrine’s eyebrow rose higher. The cat rushed up the stairs. Darting between Millard’s walking shoes. Millard nearly tripped over the cat. Mr. Fluffzpants kept looking over his shoulder hoping Miss Peregrine wouldn’t follow him. He jumped into a room, jumping onto Enoch’s lap. – “What are you doing?” – Enoch called out. – “She’s coming.” – he said scared plopping of his lap. – “I need hiding.” – Mr. Fluffzpants rushed through his room towards the shelves.
Enoch got up moving over to his shelves. – “No! Get out!” – he called out trying to catch the cat by his tail as it jumped from shelf to shelf. Enoch’s eyes widened as one of his jars toggled over. He was able to catch it in time making him sigh relieved. Mr. Fluffzpants jumped on Enoch hearing footsteps in the corridor. – “Who is it?” – Enoch asked feeling the cat’s tail draped over his shoulder. – “The bird.” – he whispered lowering himself.
“Miss P.” – Enoch gasped out as the cat hid in his sweater. Enoch squirmed as it tickled him. Mr. Fluffzpants moved to his back, grabbing onto his shirt underneath his sweater. There was a knock on Enoch’s door as it made them both gasp. The door opened as Enoch and the cat feared the worst. – “Hi Enoch.” – Enoch sighed relieved as it was only Olive. – “Hi Olive.” – he responded pulling his sweater open by his back. – “Now get off!” – Enoch insisted wiggling his back to get the cat off. Olive stared confused at the display.
She blinked confused when Mr. Fluffzpants dropped onto the ground. The cat hissed at Enoch. – “I saved your catty life!” – he called out. Mr. Fluffzpants bowed his head. It then rushed out of the room past Olive. – “Are you two getting along?” – she asked curious. – “No.” – Enoch responded loudly. – “Not even a little bit?” – she continued sweetly. – “We are not friends.” – Enoch declared. Mr. Fluffzpants made his way to your room as you were there to his surprise.
“Oh where have you been.” – you asked as the cat jumped onto your nightstand. – “You don’t want to know.” – he answered. He lifted his head up as you scratched his neck. – “Do you want a belly rub Mr. Fluffzpants?” – you asked. The cat hopped onto your lap, rolling over. – “You don’t have to say that twice.” – he purred moving a bit with his paws. You smiled rubbing his belly. You sighed soft staring into the distance. Mr. Fluffzpants rolled over, setting his paw against your chest, standing upright.
“What is it owner.” – he asked curious. You gave him a faint smile as he already knew what you were thinking off. – “Don’t think of that boy.” – he called out patting your nose with his soft paw. – “I can’t help it.” – you answered. – “You have me. You needn’t need anyone else. Never had.” – Mr. Fluffzpants reminded you. – “I know… but having Enoch around makes me feel something Fluffz.” – you answered. Mr. Fluffzpants lowered itself on your lap once more. Claire came knocking on your door telling you that diner was ready. After diner were you outside.
Walking a bit around as Mr. Fluffzpants was near you. Guarding you like he always had. He jumped, narrowing his eyes. – “Not a chance.” – he said to Enoch, stopping him from taking another step. Enoch sighed deep. – “Let me have a moment with her.” – he begged. – “No!” – Mr. Fluffzpants answered grumpy. – “I…you owe me for letting you hide from Miss P!” – Enoch let out to blackmail the cat. The cat turned his head rudely. – “That was hardly any saving. It was only Olive.” – he answered dismissively.
Enoch smirked. – “Then you wouldn’t mind me telling Miss P where you are so she can have you clean up your mess.” – he expressed with vanity. The cat remained silent looking anxious around. – “What cat caught your tongue?” -   Enoch pressed on. The cat gave him a side-eye for such a stupid comment. Then it sighed loud, sitting down. – “Fine, but only because you please my owner.” – he said, tail swishing over the grass.
“Thank you.” – Enoch said. – “Don’t mention it.” – Mr. Fluffzpants answered. Enoch walked passed the cat over to you. The cat turned watching from afar how Enoch met up with you. Seeing the joy in your eyes upon seeing him. – “Perhaps not so bad after all.” – he muttered with a smile. – “What was that cat?” – Mr. Fluffzpants meowed loud jumping out of his skin.
Panting he looked up to seeing Olive suddenly stand by him. – “Nothing!” – he groaned out annoyed. Olive bend down to him. – “Don’t worry I won’t tell a soul.” – she winked knowing the two of them warming up to each other. Olive left as Mr. Fluffzpants laid himself down in the grass, keeping a watchful eye on you from afar. Just like he always had.

Enoch only left the children's home for two reasons: to play Raid the Village or to buy books about war. He wasn't particularly interested in socializing; he spent most of his time huddled alone in his room, making horrific living dolls out of random bits and bobs and watching them fight to the death. Oh, and reading books about war. He really liked books about war.
Unfortunately, said books on war do not last forever, and eventually Enoch got to the point where he'd read every single one of them three times each. He was ready for something new.
So he took some money from Miss Peregrine and headed out into town, beelining straight for the small, worn bookshop that was already falling apart in 1943 when the loop was made. He went straight for the war section, grabbed a couple books, and stopped right in his tracks.
You were there, in the corner, huddled over a book he couldn't see the title of. Now, this was strange for multiple reasons: one, the clothes you were wearing were clearly not from 1943, and two, he had never, not once in his life in Cairnholm, seen you on the island. That shouldn't be possible.
Enoch headed straight towards you, scowling in confusion. "What are you doing here?" he demanded.
You started, looking up with raised eyebrow. "Excuse me?"
"Are you daft?" he sneered. "What are you doing here?"
You laughed, which irritated him even more, and said, "Why, aren't you a pretentious asshole?"
Your accent was American, which confused him even more, but he didn't let the emotion show. "I've never seen you before. I've seen everyone in this town and I've never seen you. What are you doing here?"
"Ever heard of leapfrogging, darling?" The pet name made his blood boil.
Yes, he had heard of leapfrogging. Of course he'd heard of leapfrogging - jumping from one loop to another. The real question was, how had you heard of leapfrogging?
Then it dawned on him. "You're peculiar, aren't you?"
"Wow, look at the brain on this one!" you said in mock astonishment, looking back down at your book. "Some of us like to travel."
"But that's illegal," Enoch said dumbly.
"Ah, you're one of the ymbryne worshippers."
"I don't worship anyone," he snapped, hating you more by the second.
"Leap with me, then," you challenged.
"Maybe I will," he replied, puffing out his chest.
You smirked. "Follow me, then."
Maybe he didn't hate you.

You Fluster Me
Enoch O'Connor x Reader Genre: Fluff Word Count: 1739 A/N: This may be a bit out of character for Enoch but it's an idea I've had in my head for a while now! Reader has a teleportation peculiarity. Reminder requests are open if you want something for the holidays!
Tumblr media
You confused Enoch ever since you entered the loop. You were kind to everyone, no matter if they were being rude to you. You were even kind to him, though he never gave you the time of day to begin with. Enoch was intrigued by you entirely and wanted to find ways to talk to you. He would even ask Olive about your interests so he would know what to talk about when he finally got the chance to do so. He was certain he would someday talk to you without messing up.
He didn’t expect it to happen sooner rather than later.
It started in the library when he was going to grab new hearts he had jarred. He had walked past it but did a double take when he saw something moving quickly around the room.
You were teleporting around the shelves, looking all over the books and reading their titles. Your eyebrows furrowed in frustration as you tried to find the book you were looking for. Stopping the teleportation, you looked up at the book you wanted. It was on the very top shelf, not where you had found it the last time you came to the small library. You reached up to grab it but it was just too high for you to reach. You tried different ways, trying to magically stretch your arms just a little bit higher, but to no use. Sighing, you turned around ready to ask Emma if she could possibly help you get the book, but was stopped when you noticed someone standing in the doorway.
“Enoch?”
He stood there wordlessly, his usual blank expression on his face. He looked at you as you said his name, raising his eyebrows a bit at your words. With no expression], he walked over to the shelves you were zipping around earlier. He grabbed the book you were trying to get easily and held it out toward you so you could grab it.
You slowly reached out and took the book from him, looking at the cover.
“Thanks, Enoch! I was going to ask Emma to get it for me, lucky for me you were closer!”
Enoch’s expression didn’t seem to change, as he nodded in acknowledgment and started back to the jarred hearts, pretending that the sudden conversation didn’t affect him. When he reached his room again he could feel his face had turned hot. He hurried back into his work, ignoring Olive’s teasing when she came to his room after hearing what he did for you.
A week or so later after the library incident, Enoch found himself being around you again as Claire wanted both of you to walk with her during the daily walk. She walked in between the two of you, holding each of your hands in hers. Bronwyn had also joined the group, talking to Claire about what games to play when they reached the house again.
“What about hide and seek?” Bronwyn suggested.
“We played that yesterday!” Claire countered.
“Tag?”
“I’m too tired for that!”
“Well then what do you want to play?” Bronwyn asked, giving up on her ideas.
“We should have a tea party!” Claire said excitedly. “We can have our friends join us! You’ll join our tea party won’t you?” She pulled on Enoch’s hand, then yours, getting both of your attention on her.
“Of course, we will honey,” you said with a smile. You looked to Enoch for him to say something, but he was staring at you with his mouth open like his words were caught in his throat. Claire turned her head towards him to see what he would say. He looked down at her, then nodded, turning to look back at the group of peculiars.
Claire and Bronwyn continued to talk about the tea party, asking you questions about how it was going to be set up.
After the walk, you helped Bronwyn set up the tea party, bringing blankets and the teacups to the backyard under the tree. Teleporting in and out of the house, you made sure that the young peculiars had everything they needed before making your way to Enoch’s room to fetch him.
You teleported to the stairs, walking up them nervously. Enoch never really seemed to like you, no matter how hard you tried to be nice to him. Olive reassured you that Enoch just needed some time to get to know you and trust you before he could talk to you the way he does with her.
Reaching his door you raised your hand and knocked. You were met with silence, not even a sound that indicated he was in there.
“The girls are ready to play tea party. Come down when you’re ready.” You said, turning around to teleport back to the girls.
Before you could, you heard the door behind you open up. You looked to see Enoch stepping out and closing the door, keeping his head down as he walked past you. He walked down the hall and towards the stairs, eyes trained on the floor. You watched him go before teleporting just outside the back door, opening it for Enoch once he came down the stairs.
Sitting on the blankets, you and Enoch watched as Claire and Bronwyn poured the tea into teacups and lectured on tea party etiquette. You both accepted the tea from the girls and talked amongst each other until dinner, where Enoch stayed behind to help you take the teapot and cups back into the house.
That night, you told Emma about how Enoch talked to you and helped you take the tea set back into the house. You had even gotten him to crack a smile a couple of times! Over in Enoch’s room, Olive was hearing Enoch’s side of the story. He was telling her how amazing he thought you were, how good you were with the younger peculiars, and how he didn’t mess up talking to you that afternoon.
Over the next couple of days, both you and Enoch started to seek each other out more. Enoch invited you to watch him work on his dolls in his room and you invited him to read with you in the library. You even had some deep conversations about your respective peculiarities, and how it would’ve been to live a normal life without being a peculiar. The two of you had built a nice friendship together, even with Enoch messing up a couple of times with how he worded things.
But Enoch couldn't shake of the feelings he had developed for you. He had knew he liked you a little bit before you officially started to talk to each other, but now knowing you the way he does, he knew he wouldn't be able to hid it. Confiding with Olive on it, he decided he needed to tell you before he made a fool of himself.
The next day, Enoch walked outside looking for you. Hidden behind his back was a small bouquet of flowers he had picked for you. Seeing you lying under the shade of a tree, he made his way over to where you were.
When he got there, he quietly laid down next to you keeping the flowers hidden at his side. He was sure you had heard him walking up, but part of him thought you were asleep.
You were taking in the loop's ambiance when you heard Enoch walk towards you. You had peaked through your eyelashes to confirm it was the quiet peculiar.
The two of you lay in silence for a couple minutes, enjoying the company and the ambiance of the others playing or doing their chores. You turned your head to Enoch, opening your eyes.
"So what brings you out of your dark room today?" You asked.
"...You."
"Me? I hope I didn't look too lonely out here that you would take pity on me."
'No, it's not that. I needed to talk to you actually." Enoch explained, starting to sit up.
Following his movements, you sat facing each other, a confused look on your face as you tried to think of something you did that would prompt Enoch to have a serious talk with you.
Enoch revealed the flowers, holding them out for you to take them. "I just wanted to have a talk because...you fluster me, okay? I can't even think straight when you're around, and I find myself being a nicer person because of you. You're kind, attractive, and smart, and I just can't help myself but like you. More than just a friend. And I hope this doesn't change anything between us if you don't feel the same way. But I needed to get it out before I made an absolute fool out of myself keeping it in."
You sat shocked at his words. All this time, he actually liked you? But was too scared to make a move? You took the flowers from him with a smile.
"You know, you have a dimple on your left cheek that shows when you laugh, and every time I saw you I tried to get you to laugh because I thought it was cute."
"So...you think I'm cute?" he questioned.
"I think you're intimidating. But after getting to know you, yes, I do think you're cute. And I would be lying if I said I didn't like you too."
"Really?"
"Yes. Poor Emma has had to hear all of it the entire time."
"Poor Olive has been hearing it from me too I'm afraid."
You shared a laugh together, cheeks tinted pink with a blush.
"Well, I have to get back to my chores, meet you in your room when I'm done?" You asked, starting to stand up.
"Yeah! Yeah, that's completely fine. I'll leave the door open for you." Enoch answered, standing up as well.
"Thanks for the flowers as well, they're very pretty. I'll see you after my chores are done!" You walked up to Enoch and gave him a quick hug, planting a kiss on his cheek before taking a couple steps and teleporting to do your chores.
Enoch stood there, replaying what happened in his head. He raised his hand and put it on his cheek where you had kissed him. Giving a little chuckle, he turned and started his walk back to his room, waiting for you to be done with your chores for the day.

Chapter 13: Vigilante Shit
yeah I know its been like a year whatever
okay notes for this chapter:
1) It's no longer Miss Avocet that Freya found when taking Jake back to the present, it's now Miss Dove in case I decide to continue the series I don't have to work around Miss A being dead
2) I wrote this in less than 24 hours don't judge me too harshly
3) welcome to the wdid revival where its been four years since I wrote chapter one and my writing has improved drastically and I will (eventually) rewrite the first 2 chapters of this
4) also Freya is horny af for Enoch for a good portion of this because I was reminded about how fucking fine Finlay MacMillan is while rewatching the movie to write this
anyways Freya POV, 1523 words, enjoy
chapter 1 chapter 12
Tumblr media
Between Miss Dove and Jacob, we were all quickly put to work.
Emma, Jacob, Enoch and I were put in charge of collecting tools for the others while they worked on latching the windows and barricading the doors. In the chaos, Abe’s nightly phone call was forgotten about until the familiar ringing filled the parlour.
The three of us glanced between ourselves before I gently eased the hoe from Jacob’s hands. “I think you should answer it tonight,” I murmured. Looking like he was half in shock, he nodded and quickly scurried off.
“Not entirely sure that was the best idea of ours, but yera, it can’t be worse than all the times we snuck out,” I said with a shrug.
Enoch gave a surprised snort, “Frey, I don't think anything can be worse than that.”
With a knowing smile, Emma took her section of the tools and left the sunroom. Enoch and I both hesitated, the makeshift weapons in our arms a glaring reminder that we were running out of time and yet still we stood there, our soft breathing and the racket from the parlour the only sounds.
“I’m proud of you, y’know,” whispered Noch. “Even if the others aren’t, I am. I’ll always be proud of you.”
I inhaled sharply. For some reason, this moment felt like it was crossing some unspoken line of ours, and it was quickly heading into a territory I wasn’t sure I was ready for.
“And because I know that wonderful brain of yours like the back of my hand, I know that you’re overthinking it but you, Freya Róisín Aoibh O’Sullivan, might have just saved us all.” The way he easily pronounced the Gaelic of my middle names sent a wave of hunger crashing through me. Although this was far from a new feeling for me, it took me by surprise every time.
It was like suddenly every single little thing he had done in the last sixty-five years slammed into me like a train. From the quirk of his lips to the gentle slide of his hand across my lower back to when his shirt was soaking after our weekly swims to the feeling of his fingers tangling in my hair while he slept, it all added up to me pretending like there wasn’t an ache in me that I didn’t think anyone else but Enoch could fix.
He smiled at me like there wasn’t anything different even though he had just added fuel to the fire inside me that he had lit a long, long time ago. As he walked away I stood there, trying desperately to shove the desire threatening to consume me down, down, down to where I could pretend it wasn’t there.
It wasn’t like I was some sort of blushing virgin. I was raised by my older sister for fuck’s sake. With no parents there to beat the fear of God into us for lusting, Máire had a habit of going after the boys around town and, more often than not, they’d end up in her bed. After enough times of Siobhan and I walking in on her, we learned to avoid our small house during the afternoons, instead playing with the other kids nearby. And, although it wasn’t allowed by Miss P, Victor and I found more than enough time to sneak away for an hour or so. Even if it benefited him far more than it benefitted me.
I sighed and resigned myself to the low heat pooling in my gut despite the horrible situation we found ourselves in. Returning to the parlour, I quickly started passing out the tools, trying to not let the way my friends, my family, were flinching as they took the tools, bother me.
Before long we were all standing against a wall, Miss Dove in front of us holding Miss P’s crossbow. “Now children,” she began.
I glanced at Enoch from where I stood beside him, wordlessly asking him if he was alright. I knew this would be killing him inside right now, remembering what happened in his loop in London. He squeezed my hand gently.
I’m alright.
I gave him a reassuring look and turned back to Miss Dove.
“Now that you’re all here, there’s a few rules. Your primary job is to stay safe. Leave the Hollow to me, I don’t want to see any heroics. Now, those of you with garden tools, I must insist that you—” Miss Dove was cut off abruptly as the Hollow pulled her through the window.
A mixture of gasps and shrieks left us as the danger we were in truly hit us. Jacob lunged towards the crossbow she had dropped and quickly aimed it at the window.
I frantically scanned the room, looking for some kind of sign as to where it was only to find nothing. The boards that were left from Miss D rattled as it entered the house, sections falling back into the garden.
As Jacob stood up, Enoch ran from where he was, throwing himself between Jacob and the Hollow.
“What are you doing Enoch?” I yelled. He glanced over his shoulder at me and his moment of distraction let the Hollow grab him.
Never in my life did I feel the terror that went through me as it picked him up. Not when Máire died, not when I killed Millie, not when Miss Gannett found me. The shadows from its tongues were the only thing that let me see what it was doing while he struggled.
I ran towards him, calculating where the Hollow was as I moved. I reached where I thought a leg was, my palm smacking the floor with a force I was only aware of because of the sound. It slammed Enoch into a window, shards of stained glass cutting my skin, desperation stopping me from feeling the pain.
I tried again, my hand aching from missing again as Jacob urged the others to get to the attic. For the third time I lunged, this time half a foot to the left and felt my hand grasp cold, scaly flesh. I squeezed, the Hollow’s tongues dropping Enoch as it died.
Completely forgetting that Jacob was still in the room, I rushed to my best friend. The moment he had stood up, I cupped his face in my hands.
“Are you alright?” He nodded.
I threw my arms around his neck, forcing him to take a few steps back as he adjusted. “Don’t do that to me again.”
“I won’t, I promise,” he said, burying his head in my neck.
We stayed there for a moment, just breathing each other in, until Jacob cleared his throat. With one hand, I flipped him off as Noch gently put me down.
The moment my feet hit the ground, the remainders of the window crumbled. Confused, I looked to Jacob only for him to be staring wide-eyed at the hole in the wall. “Run,” he whispered.
As we rushed to the stairs, the doors to the parlour were ripped off of their hinges, the second Hollow following us to the attic.
Once we were upstairs, Jacob quickly started to figure out a way for us to escape. “Okay. All right, um…” he looked around the small attic, twelve peculiar children watching him.
“Shit! It’s almost reset!” He opened the window, the familiar flashes of the bombs flaring outside. “Fiona, is there anything you can do with that tree?”
“Yes,” she said, nodding.
“Be careful, Fi,” begged Hugh.
Fiona slid out the window and down the slick, steep surface of the roof, landing on the gutter.
Once Jacob said that we were escaping through the windows, I turned to Claire, motioning to pick her up. She leaned away from me. “Claire Bear, I know you’re scared about my peculiarity but we don’t have time. The Hollow will get through at any moment and we need to get you out the window now.”
She hesitantly let me pick her up and hold her as we slid down the roof, the shingles scraping the shit out of my legs as I focused on not balancing wrong and sending both Claire and I to our deaths. Once we were down, I sent her over to where Jacob and Emma stood helping the younger peculiars to the tree branch Fiona had grown.
I turned back to where Enoch was holding onto the windowsill with one hand, helping Horace out the window. When he landed beside me, I yelled over the rain for him to “Go, go!”
“Enoch, come on!”
As he fell down the roof, I grabbed his arm to keep him from falling. “You’re not getting rid of me that easy!” he said. I rolled my eyes at him and started climbing over to the rest of the wards right when the Hollow burst threw the doors.
As carefully as possible, we followed the others down the branch, Emma and Jacob staying at the back to guide the little ones.
Before they even got to touch the ground, the bomb hit the house and we watched as the loop closed.

yeah I'm well aware that that one line about the others flinching away from Freya when she gave them the tools is awkward but I can't be assed to fix it

Puffing loud, you rolled over from your back to your stomach on Enoch’s bed. Enoch working on one of his puppets. Olive standing curious behind him. – “What is it Y/n?” – he asked, not even looking up. You sighed dramatically loud to catch his attention, letting your fingers pull some hair up. Enoch quirked his eyebrow up, knowing something was wrong. – “Y/n are you going to tell me, or do I have to force it out of you?” – he rested his wrists over one another, tool in his hand.
Pouting your lips, you shrugged your shoulders. – “Alright I get it.” – he spoke moving back in his chair. Olive looked curious over to you. – “You need my attention, you’ll get it.” – Enoch continued, setting his tool down. You curled up a smile, watching him shove his chair back. – “But your puppets.” – Olive muttered, gesturing at them. – “You were going to show me a performance.” – she turned when Enoch walked around her over to you.
“Tomorrow, Olive.” – he answered. Placing his hands down on the matrass with you, he bend over to kiss you. – “Satisfied?” – he asked smirking. – “Not quite.” – you answered. Enoch sighed straightening his posture. Offering you, his hand. Squealing loud, you accepted it, swinging your legs over the edge.
Walking hand in hand, he went out of his room. Leaving Olive as she was of no interest to him. In the hallway, he spun you around so he could wrap his arm around you. Cozy pressed against each other, shared you another kiss. – “Gross.” – you suddenly heard. Looking away, you saw Horace with his arms crossed. Claire beside him giggling.
Enoch stuck his tongue out to him as you chuckled. Pulling at his hand, you went further down the hallway, squeezing yourself between Claire and Horace. Running down the stairs, you nearly ran Emma over. – “Watch where you go!” – she called out annoyed. Enoch and you made your way outside to escape the suffocating house. Don’t get it wrong, it was lovely, but… very much the same. You waved from afar at Fiona and Hugh near the greeneries.
Enoch pulled hard at your hand, startling you. He wanted you all for himself and it was showing. Quickening his pace, he rushed with you to a more secluded area. You laughed when he grabbed you by the waist, twirling you towards him. Hands pressed against his chest, you smiled. Enoch kissed your neck, making your head fall back.
“I love you Y/n.” – he said by your ear. Eyes widening when he grabbed your hand firmly. Giving you a good spin. Confused and a bit dizzy, you held your hand against him once more. Enoch smiled, guiding one hand to your waist. One look of him, spoke a thousand words. You nodded, straightening your posture.
Enoch took a step forwards as you moved your feet back. Dancing in the open grass with him. Slow dancing till he let you twirl under his arm. Laughing giddy, you loved this romantic side of him. Both hands on your hip, he swayed them from side to side. Slowing down as you rested your head on his shoulder. – “Truth Y/n…” – he started. – “Without you I don’t know how much longer I could be trapped here.” – he confessed, making you look up to him.
“You make it worth waking up every morning all over again.” – taking a deep breath, you held your hand against his cheek. – “Same goes for me Enoch.” – you responded. – “And I love you very much for that.” – Enoch and you stared lovingly at each other. Leaning in closer to share a kiss. Kissing him without boundaries.
Enoch took your hand, leading you closer to a tree. Sitting down as he pulled you down with him. You laid yourself down, head on his lap. His fingers running through your hair soothingly. Having your eyes closed, you enjoyed the sounds of nature.
Birds chirping, the wind gentle on your skin. Enoch’s warmth, the quiet. You could literally fall asleep like this. Perhaps you did. Enoch leaned down to kiss your forehead. – “You are the most precious constant presence in my life.” – he said to you. You inhaled deep, snuggling closer to him. Enoch’s arm resting protective over your body, watching you rest in his arms.
What could be better than this. Drawn to a living being rather then the dead, he is familiar with. Smiling down at you, he truly felt like having found his other half. The light sight to his darker shade. A radiant sun circling around his moon.

Would've, Could've, Should've (Chap 10)
(Freya POV, 3689 words,
I'm so sorry in advance, this one is just allllll the pain
there is some hurt/comfort tho to make up for it)
(previously called Victor: Asshat, Dipshit, Cheater, Love of My Life, etc.)
chapter 1 chapter 9
Tumblr media
I couldn’t bring myself to join everyone else on the walk, my mind too flooded with memories of Vic and our time together.
It started one fine day about four years after I first came to the loop. He somehow found out, probably from Olive since I had told her this just the week before, that I loved to swim and came bearing my favourite flowers, lavender, to ask me to head down to the beach with him.
With it being so soon after Henry’s bullshit, I remember thinking, Maybe this is it! He just cares so much! It feels right. We have a connection, I think this boy is different!
If only that tenderness and attention to detail lasted the coming years,
After that, we started spending time together and I started to neglect learning how to control my peculiarity, despite Noch’s warnings, to both me and Vic.
He was always showing off, picking up random heavy things to impress me.
He never found my gift to be as impressive.
He was constantly brushing me off whenever I tried to bring anything big up to him. I would ask him not to stand so close to me because I was scared to hurt him and he refused to listen.
I told you earlier that the deadly part of my peculiarity doesn’t apply to those I love romantically. I think that solely because of how close Vic was always standing to me, it’s incredibly unlikely that he wouldn’t have gotten too close and brushed against me at least once, and since I was only inadvertently the cause of his death, he never technically died by my hands.
I’m sure this time is different.
After six months of him always shoving his love at me, he started showing his true nature. One time, right when our love was starting to die, we were walking in the village in our time, just meandering through the market and chatting with both the villagers and each other when I apparently said something he didn’t like. He grabbed me by the braid and pulled me into the gap between two of the houses. Then he slapped me right in the face and growled at me that I wasn’t allowed to say that in front of him.
To be honest, even though its been years and while I don’t remember what it was I said, I still remember thinking that I had said something completely normal and wondering why in Hell I wasn’t allowed to say it and why he was allowed to tell me what I could and couldn’t say.
He then grabbed me by the hand and walked back onto the street, acting completely normal while I had my head down and tears slipping down my cheeks.
I guess it’s not so different.
While I hadn’t spent much of my life with my parents, I knew that love wasn’t supposed to be like this. Love was this beautiful thing where you would do anything to keep them safe and you wouldn’t ever think of hurting them.
I think the worst blow came when I found out he was sleeping with another peculiar in the loop at the time, her name was Millie, Millie Holmes. She controlled shadows and was good friends with Liv, Noch and I. She was officially in the “Scary/Disturbing Peculiarities” friend group.
I was heartbroken. Even if I knew that me and Vic weren’t very functional, I still loved him. I sobbed in Liv’s arms for hours while Noch terrorized Millie and Vic with corpses from the village cemetery.
I naïvely took him back after that, believing his lies that he would change.
Noch and Liv begged me not to, trying to convince me that I was worth so much more than he was giving me. They failed of course. It’s incredibly hard to convince someone who thinks they’re nothing that they’re something.
I thought this time was different.
Eventually his lies came to fruition. He never stopped sleeping with Millie, they just got better at hiding it.
Barely three months later, on our two year anniversary, I walked in on them going at it. I got so angry , the rage that has always lived in me coming to the surface once more. I wasn’t wearing my gloves, I had ripped my favourite pair and had an extra in Vic’s room, and I grabbed Millie by the arm and dragged her off of him.
That side of my peculiarity had always responded badly to strong emotions but especially to fear and anger, both of which I was feeling in the moment.
When I grabbed her, I wasn’t thinking, I was just reacting.
By the time I remembered the burden of my peculiarity, it was too late and she was going grayer by the second. I pulled my hands off of her and screamed for Enoch to get over here as I collapsed to my knees beside her.
I vaguely remember Victor ripping into me as Enoch tried everything to reverse my mistake, but all I did was stare at my hands, wondering How could I have done this?
Why did I think he’d be different?
The very final straw was on the night he died.
It was Vic, Noch and I all sitting in the movie room after reset, each quietly doing our own thing. I was reading, Noch was making homunculi and Vic was lost in thought, his head on my lap.
He spoke up after almost an hour of silence, “I’m leaving the loop.”
I was so surprised that I dropped my book onto the couch.
“ What ?”
“I’m leaving the loop. I see no reason to be here if Millie’s dead.” Because of you was left unspoken as if it wasn’t his actions that were the root cause.
“I’m sorry, what?” Noch demanded, rage evident in every feature of his face.
“I mean there’s no point in me staying here. Millie was the love of my life.” As if his lover of two and a half years wasn’t running her hand through his hair not two minutes ago.
By this point, silent tears were coursing down my cheeks.
“ What ? You wouldn’t stay for Bron or Frey or me, your best friend.”
“No? Freya is the reason why Millie is dead and you couldn’t save her. Besides, Bronwyn will be fine without me, it’s not like she needs me.”
My breathing was coming faster now, my heart feeling like it was breaking in two. I shoved his head off of my lap and stood up, leaving my book forgotten on the couch.
“You've got me down on my knees. Please tell me what you think I've done wrong. I’ve been humble, been loyal, I've tried to swallow my pride all along. If you can just explain a single thing I've done to cause you pain, besides Millie, I won’t stop you from going,” I said through gritted teeth as I tried to keep my sobs from escaping.
He couldn’t say a thing, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water.
“No? You’ve got nothing to say?” I could feel my face going red from both the rage and the crying. “I wouldn’t stop you from leaving me or Noch, but Bron? Your sister? She never tells you but she loves you so. She’s constantly telling me about how much she adores you.”
Because it’s never, ever different.
“Ha! So you admit it!” Vic jumped to his feet.
“What?” Noch’s patience with Vic was gone.
“You’re fucking him! You just admitted it!”
“ What ? I’m not. Me asking you why you are leaving Bron is completely different from you making some baseless accusations about me fucking my best friend. Which reminds me, where are you going to go, hmm?” I was done. This was absolute bullshit and completely pointless, he wasn’t actually going to tell me anything. He was just going to talk in circles instead.
“I don’t know, just around the world not having to be confined to a loop.”
“Well, dipshit, you’re forgetting you’ve already been in a loop for years. You’ll age forward. And what if you come across Hollows? What are you going to do? It’s not like you can see them, idiot.” Noch’s tone was cold, Victor was dead to him as far as he was concerned.
“I won’t trust me.”
“Just go. But do know, the minute you walk out that door, we’re over. I will still love you, I think it will take a long time for me to stop loving you, but I will never let you into my life again. You will be dead to me and I will never forgive you.”
“Jesus, you’re being harsh, it’s not that big of a deal.”
“ No . I’m setting boundaries and finally listening to what Liv has been saying all along.
“I am worth so much more than you have ever given me. I deserve so much more than some prick who hits me and humiliates me and thinks he’s better than me and cheats on me and accuses me of cheating on him. I’m not doing anything else for you. The last thing I will ever do for you is sit Wyn down and explain to her that her older brother, who she loves more than life itself, doesn’t feel the same about her and left her without saying goodbye.” During my rant, Noch had come up behind me and rested his hand on my shoulder, providing the reassurance that I needed as I confronted Vic.
I walked towards the doorway, stopping only to say “Goodbye, Vic.” before heading upstairs.
I had calmly shut the door, changed into my nightgown and made my bed before breaking down sobbing.
I didn’t fall asleep that night until long after Victor left.
In the morning, I did as I promised and told Bronwyn that Victor had left and was not coming back for her. I held her for the next hour as she bawled until all the crying finally wore her out and she fell asleep.
After I had tucked her into bed, I went and found Miss P and told her what had happened.
I then walked into Liv’s room and cried myself to sleep in her arms as she muttered soft condolences to me.
When I woke up in the afternoon, it was to Noch shaking me awake.
“Frey. Frey. You need to wake up. I’m so sorry but you need to see this.”
“Need to see what?” I yawned, sitting up and wiping my eyes.
“Freya. Victor’s dead. A hollow got him. He never made it off the island. Fiona found him when she went to check the post after lunch. I’m so sorry.”
Halfway through his speech a non-stop chorus of “No, no, no, no, no” started coming out of my mouth.
“There’s no way. Victor can’t be— He was here yesterday, there’s no way he could be— He’s alive— I saw him last night— He can’t—” By this point, my breathing was laboured and I knew I was minutes away from a panic attack if I couldn’t stop and take a moment to calm down.
“I know, Frey, I know.” Noch sat on the edge of my bed and pulled me into a spine-crushing hug. “I’ve got you. You’re safe. You can take as much time as you need before you see him for yourself.”
“Noch, before I fully lose myself to this panic, I need to see him. If I don’t, I won’t take it in and then—”
“We can go downstairs right now if you want. We can also sit here for a moment while you take a second to pull yourself together in front of the little ones because I know that’s what you’re thinking about right now, and don’t try and bullshit me on this one, I know you too well.” His voice was calm on the surface but I could hear the tiniest little quiver in his voice that told me he was hanging on by just as small of a thread as I was.
What a pair we are , I thought, both trying to force ourselves to stay calm in a terrifying situation to not stress out those we care about.
“Freya. Freya. You have to breathe, love.” He grabbed my hand gently and put it on his chest. “Can you match my breathing for me?” I copied his deep breaths until I calmed down. “There you go. How about we go downstairs, alright? Come on, up you come.” He stood up and pulled me to my feet.
I did as he asked solely because I didn’t think I’d be able to do it on my own.
Noch had to hold me up as we made our way to the kitchen where Vic’s body was laying out on the table.
From what I knew of what happened to corpses in the twenty-four hours after death from being around them so often, he had died less than eighteen hours ago, all though I wasn’t sure if returning to the loop had slowed down the decomposition process. It was definitely a hollow that got him, where his soft brown eyes once were are now gaping black holes.
Lividity, when the blood settles in the lowest part of the body, and rigor mortis, when the body becomes completely stiff and unpliable, had both set in. I glanced at the clock.
If it’s three in the afternoon now, and rigor mortis sets in between two and six hours after death and lividity becomes fixed around twelve hours after death, but algor mortis, when the body becomes the ambient temperature around it, hasn’t set in. He left the house between eleven and midnight which means he likely died between, I paused my inner monologue for a second to do the math, one and three in the morning.
I was fully aware I was being incredibly clinical about this, treating it in my head almost the same way I would treat a sheep or cow dying.
I was brought back to the present by a small body tackling me into a hug. Distantly, I recognized it as Bronwyn who was sobbing into my dress. I slowly kneeled down to hug her properly as Claire joined in the hug. Soon it was a pile of crying peculiars on the floor of the kitchen, mourning the loss of one of their own. The only one who wasn’t crying was me, and that was only because I was holding my emotions back by a thread so I wouldn’t hurt anyone.
Instead of having what we usually had for dinner, roast chicken and steamed carrots with mashed potatoes and gravy on the side, Miss P managed to pull herself together long enough to make sandwiches around all of us and to reset the loop before slowly sending us off to bed one by one until only Emma, Noch, Liv and I were left staring blankly at the bare dining room table knowing that our fifth member was dead only two rooms away.
“I should have gone with him.” I hadn’t realized I had said it out loud until there were two sounds of protest and one of confusion.
“What do you mean you should have gone with him? No one knew he left until this morning.” Emma sounded incredibly bewildered.
I glanced at Noch, “Noch and I knew last night. After everyone went to bed, we were all sitting in the living room relaxing when he told us that he was leaving. No matter what we said, he refused to stay, not even for Wyn.”
“He kept going on about how Millie was the love of his life and how Bron didn’t need him,” Noch laughed wetly. “He wouldn’t even stay for Frey who he was dating.”
Liv, who was sitting in the chair beside me, gently wrapped an arm around me as I buried my face into her shoulder.
“What an asshole.” Murmurs of agreement went around the table at Emma’s words. “It’s one thing to be unhappy being in a loop, it’s another thing entirely to leave your girlfriend, sister, best friend and essentially your family in the middle of the night all because the girl who you cheated on your girlfriend with died. I swear if he wasn’t dead already I’d burn him just for the bullshit he pulled towards you, Freya.
“I’m sorry if this is overstepping at all, but if I was in your shoes, I don’t think I would have stuck with him as long as you did.”
“I’m honestly surprised it took me so long to snap and dump him as it did,” I laughed.
“You deserved so much better than him, babes. We’ve been telling you this for the last year, hun.” Olive’s voice was gentle but still slightly forceful as if to push this into my head.
The stairs squeaked slightly before there was a knock on the door, “Freya?”
I wiped my nose on my sleeve and wiped off the tears quickly before opening the door.
“What’s wrong, love?” I brushed Claire’s hair back from her face.
“I want some water but I’m too scared to go into the kitchen because…” she trailed off.
Because Victor was there, of course.
I glanced over my shoulder and raised an eyebrow at Noch.
“How about I get you one and then tuck you back into bed, Claire Bear?” he said, standing up and squeezing her shoulder lightly.
She nodded and tucked herself into my side while she waited as Emma and Liv mindlessly chatted about the book Emma had recommended to Liv the other day.
Soon, Noch returned and picked her up to take her upstairs.
“Goodnight, Freya, Olive and Emma!”
“‘Night, Claire!” we chorused before our masks of contentment fell and our grief rose to the surface once more. My head dropped into my hands as I flopped into a chair again.
“I need a fucking drink,” I said as I massaged my temples. “This week has been way too much.”
“I’m sure we could run out to the bar in the village and drink ourselves into a stupor until we couldn’t walk in a straight line and are giggling messes but I think Miss P would find out what we were up to by then,” Olive piped up. Scratch that, we all needed at least one solid pint each, if not more.
“I don’t think there’s any in the house, unfortunately.” Emma sounded equally as in need of one as I did.
Noch chose that moment to open the door, “I love you all, but there is no fuckin’ way I’m letting ye go off drinking at—” he glanced around the corner to see a clock, “half past midnight, especially not while you are in mourning because, unlike you three, I remember what went down after the last funeral.”
“To be completely honest with you girls, I don’t remember more than thirty consecutive seconds from that night,” Liv cackled at Emma’s words.
“I don’t think I remember thirty seconds at all , let alone one after another.”
“You two—,” I gestured between the two, “remember anything from that night? All I remember is finding myself beside the toilet with a pounding headache the next morning.”
Soon our laughing became yawning and Emma and Liv said their goodnights to Noch and I. We followed them a few minutes later.
I moved to slip into my room when Noch gently caught my arm.
“I trust you, Frey, but I also know your coping mechanisms a little too well,” he said as he gently pulled me into his room.
Once the door was closed, he tossed me one of his shirts and a random pair of pyjama pants he had lying about.
He ushered me into bed and pulled me into his arms and I finally, after two of the worst days of my life, broke down and let my emotions out.
He just stroked my back until I could breathe easily again and then held me close until long after I woke up in the morning.
Tumblr media
I was startled out of my reminiscing by someone knocking at my door.
“Yes?”
“I come bringing chocolate and tea,” Olive called back.
I jumped up and threw open the door, “I could kiss you right now for this!”
She passed me the cup of tea and the chocolate and then tossed herself upon my bed, “Well I couldn’t let you sulk alone and without some snacks, it’s my job as your best friend.”
“Thanks, Liv.” I threw myself onto the duvet beside her after shutting the door, “I raised Victor today.”
“I know.”
“I guess… It just reminded me of how shitty he was.”
“Noch and I always said you deserved better than him.”
“But do I? Like I know I have never told you how I found out I was peculiar but it wasn’t pretty, someone close to me died . And the reason why the wards in my old loop died? All me. Millie’s death? Me, my fault, my anger I couldn’t control. Maybe, in a really fucked up way, I deserved Victor solely because I don’t deserve to have a genuinely good person fall in love with me.”
She grabbed my hands, careful to make sure that only our gloves touched, just to be safe, “Freya, no! You are a wonderful, kind, lovely person who deserves the world. You are constantly mothering the littles, making sure they have everything they need at all times. Above all else, you deserve to have someone care for you and put as much effort into a relationship as you do. You don’t deserve to be beaten down and treated as less just because of some silly reason, you deserve love.” Olive’s face was red since she had only taken two breaths that entire monologue.
“Thanks, Liv.”
Claire came running up the stairs and burst through the door, “Miss Avocet’s awake! Enoch told me to come get you.”
Both Liv and I jumped to our feet and ran down the stairs.

Jealousy
Tumblr media
Enoch O'Connor x Fem!Reader
Word Count: 295
Warnings: A tiny bit of angst, jealousy
Request: Could you do an Enoch O'Connor x Reader angst/fluff (at the end)? Possibly around Jake joining the loop and he gets jealous because he & reader are together. Kind of like the "I hate everybody but you" trope :') I love your work!!
A/N: Sorry this is so late!! I hope you like it :)
Enoch isn’t used to competition.
He’s been dating you for years - ten to be exact - and the only guys your age who have ever been in the loop were Victor, who was far too scared to make a move on anything that belonged to Enoch, and Abe, who was too smitten with Emma to even register the fact that other girls existed.
So when Miss Peregrine introduces you to Jake, Enoch is totally unprepared for the wave of jealousy that washes over him when you give Abe’s grandson a smile. Before Enoch can realize what he’s doing, he’s storming over to you with a scowl on his face. “Having fun?” he asks tightly.
You smile at him, seemingly oblivious, and lean against his chest. “Hey, Enoch! I was just telling Jake - “
“Enough about Jake,” Enoch cuts you off abruptly.
Your smile disappears, replaced by confusion. “What?”
“We’re going.” Enoch grabs your hand, shooting a nasty look in Jake’s direction.
“Um, see you later, Jake!” you call, looking behind you apologetically.
Enoch pulls you into his room and shuts the door behind you. “Why are you talking to him like that?” he demands.
Your confusion grows. “Talking to him like what? Enoch, what are you talking about?”
“All- All nice and friendly! And smiling at him, smiling at him the way you’re supposed to smile at me.” His voice cracks on the last word.
“Oh, Enoch…” You pull him into your arms. “You’re jealous, aren’t you?”
Enoch doesn’t respond.
“There is nothing going on between Jake and me. We’re just friends, okay, I love you. There’s no reason for you to be jealous.”
“Promise?” he says quietly, dark brown eyes meeting yours.
You smile and peck him on the lips. “I promise.”

Chapter 14: Castles Crumbling
Freya POV, 1350 words kinda all over the place because this is a filler chapter, shit's going down next chapter ;)
heads up that there's kinda graphic descriptions of injuries throughout, especially concerning blood, tldr if you need it at the bottom :) also heavy talk of insecurities/self-worth issues
chapter 1 chapter 13
Tumblr media
By the time the rain stopped, we were down on the beach, the stars shining in the sky as if twelve lives hadn’t just been destroyed. I stood a few feet away from the others, their distrust in me breaking my heart into a thousand little pieces.
Now that the adrenaline had worn off, the pain from my wounds was making it hard to stand up straight. I had a bullet still lodged in my left shoulder, my right hand was sprained, if not broken from how hard I had landed on it while trying to save Enoch and I had easily a dozen deep cuts from the glass. Blood was slowly seeping onto my dress, staining the green a reddish-brown.
“I’m sorry, Jake,” Fiona said, “What do we do now?”
Jacob looked lost, leadership obviously not being something he was used to. “I-is there any sign of Miss Peregrine and that Wight?”
“Gone. They must have had a boat.” I shook my head, the motion sending more blood out of my shoulder and I clamped my most definitely broken hand over it.
“We need to go after them,” Jacob said, stating the obvious. “We know he’s taking her to Blackpool.”
“But Blackpool is miles away! The next ferry doesn’t go for hours. We’ll never make it in time,” said Millard.
“Not unless we go by boat too.”
I snorted, “Where the fuck are we gonna find a boat?”
Tumblr media
Turns out there was a boat. Mind, it was easily 200 metres underwater, but there was a boat. Slowly, we swam down, Emma blowing air bubbles for us to be able to breathe. Every stroke of my arms sent agony flaring up my shoulder and down my back, the bullet had done more damage than I thought.
While Emma worked on filling the rest of the boat up with air once one room was sufficiently dry enough for us to breathe, the rest of us slowly moved room by room through the ship, finding enough bedrooms for each peculiar to have two, the engine room and a room full of skeletons.
Before long, we all ended up in the bridge. The angle that the ship had taken to get out of the water resulting in most of us falling against a wall. Once we were out of the sea, Enoch came and stood beside me as we all looked out at the island. There was no guarantee we would ever come back, let alone live past tomorrow.
Tumblr media
I did my best to avoid everyone, including Enoch, for the next few hours. The betrayal in their eyes was too much for me to handle, especially while we rushed to Blackpool.
It was like every single good thing I had done in the last nearly seventy years had been erased in a matter of an hour. Every night spent drinking in the village with Olive and Emma meant nothing. Every time I took care of Wyn and Claire meant nothing. Every afternoon I soothed Fiona when she lost control because of Hugh, they meant nothing.
If I had to see my family look at me like I was a monster one more time…
In a way, they were confirming all the fears I’d had since I was thirteen. No one could ever fully accept that someone they loved could kill them and anyone else in seconds if their control slipped for only a moment.
I will always be on my own. I will never have anyone for long.
Maybe it was a gift of sorts to have seventy years of being loved, even if I had to hide such a big portion of myself to get it.
My spiral of self-pity was interrupted as I turned down the hallway that led to the room I’d claimed for the night. It was a good few hallways away from both where the younger and older wards were sleeping. Enoch was leaning on the wall next to the door.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“Nothing, everything’s fine,” I said, trying to push past him to open the door.
“Sure, that’s why there’s blood all over you.”
I half-turned to him, “I can fix it.” I didn’t like being shitty to him but it would keep him safe and I’ll be damned if that wasn’t my top priority.
He raised an eyebrow, he knew damn well I was bullshitting, “You can fix a bullet wound with one hand?”
I sighed in defeat and let him follow me in. While he found a first aid kit in the bathroom, I pulled off my dress and my cami underneath, leaving me in a soft bralette and bloomers.
I had just sat on the bed when Enoch turned around with bandages and tweezers in hand. At the sight of me, his jaw dropped slightly, “I didn’t realize it was so bad, I would’ve annoyed you into letting me help earlier if I knew.”
To be fair, I was looked a mess. I had rebraided my hair after getting to the ship but the water had wreaked havoc on my curls and had left them in a mat of tangles. My shoulder had stopped bleeding, but there was still blood crusted from my collarbone to my bicep. There wasn’t too much blood from the glass but that was only because they were still embedded in my skin.
“Where do you want to start?” he said, sitting down gently next to me.
“Bullet. Probably not good for it to stay in there long.” He nodded and I twisted so that he could see where it entered.
He unscrewed a bottle of whiskey and poured some on a cloth. “This is going to hurt like hell but we can’t risk infection, not right now.” Enoch wiped the cloth over my bloodstained skin and I hissed through my teeth at the sting. To say it hurt would’ve been the understatement of the century. It felt like it was burning through my raw skin.
After what felt like far too long, he had me lie on my back so that he could find the bullet. The tweezers were freezing as he dug through the muscle and flesh of my arm. There was a slight tugging feeling before the bullet was out.
“Here’s the little fucker,” he said, dropping it into my waiting hand. It was only a few minutes longer before I was stitched and bandaged up.
“Glass next?”
“Yeah,” I sighed, knowing that this was going to be a long process. Thankfully, it had been mostly big shards of glass that got stuck, the majority of the small pieces bouncing off me.
After another twenty minutes he asked “Is there anything else?”
“I might have, possibly, definitely broken my hand when I was trying to grab the hollow,” I said, scrunching my face up as I waited for his reaction.
Noch blinked twice, “What?”
I held up my hand. Two of my finger were at an unnatural angle and you could just barely see where one of my bones poked into my skin slightly. It was a miracle I could move my hand at all right now.
“Oh shit. That-that is definitely broken. I don’t know what to do with that.”
“Me neither. Maybe we could bandage it? So that it doesn’t get worse?”
“Alright, we can do that.” He gently wrapped my hand then redid the bandages on my arm and thigh from when Claire spilt her hot chocolate.
God, I thought, that couldn’t have been just three days ago.
There we sat in silence, Enoch cradling my fucked over hand in his like it was something to be protected, like I was something to be protected, and I suddenly realized what was going to happen. We were finally going to talk about the elephant in the room that we’d been ignoring for sixty years.
“Frey—” he started and I snatched my hand back.
I shook my head, clutching my broken hand to my chest as I stood up. “I-I can’t,” I said backing away until I reached the door.
And then I ran.

TLDR if the injury talk was not for you: Freya begins to distance herself from the others because she thinks she's worthless after how the others (minus Enoch) reacted to the death-touch part of her peculiarity. They go down to the Augusta. General talk of how they confirmed the fears she had for years about not being accepted for her peculiarity and maybe it was a gift that she got nearly 70 years of them not knowing. Enoch fixes up all her injuries even tho she's been trying to avoid him. Enoch tries to get her to talk about their feelings but she panics and runs off.
