found this in the acknowledgments and my brain is melting from this question. bc it elucidates the fact that everlost and unwind are philosophically contradictory to each other. everlost depends on the assumption that the soul is real, tangible, and separable from the body. unwind on the other hand embodies the ship of theseus problem – if u take a person apart, piece by piece, but those parts are kept alive, are they still there? in this universe, and the unwind universe, there's basically no way for there to be a soul, bc the thesis (or at least my takeaway) is that there is no true biological self; the self is a construct. we are all part of this intricate system called life. consciousness can be found at all levels, from the most basic cells to us as complex organisms, and your organs being spread amongst other living things just means their place in the system has changed, not that anyone has died or ceased existing (or rather, the configuration and makeup of our parts are constantly changing anyway to exist independently of everything else)

Nexet.js Environment Variables
Tumblr media
Next.js basically supports Environment Variables, so it can be used without installing or configuring a separate library. - Load environment variables using .env.local - NEXT_PUBLICExpose environment variables to the browser using a prefix  * What are Environment Variables and Why Use them? Environment variables refer to variables that can be passed specific values (server URL or ID values of other tools, etc.) when the application is executed by creating a file called .env . The biggest reason to use it is for security reasons. This is because if a specific value is exposed in the code, when the code is hacked by hackers, the server URL or specific values that are not set as environment variables are exposed together, resulting in greater damage.
Tumblr media
environment variable Example source - Environment Variables load environment variable The .env.local file is basically installed in the root folder when Next.js is installed, and is used to load environment variables. You can load environment variables by writing process.env . (By default, most hosting sites have a page that specifies env separately, so don't forget to set it on the hosting site as well) Because the .env.local file is written in the .gitignore file by default, it is not uploaded to the git repository.  .env.local DB_HOST=localhost DB_USER=myuser DB_PASS=mypassword This automatically loads into the Node.js environment and makes the process.env.DB_HOST , process.env.DB_USER , and process.env.DB_PASS variables available to Next.js data imports and API routes .      For example, getStaticProps The way to use it with is to use  // pages/index.js export async function getStaticProps() { const db = await myDB.connect({ host: process.env.DB_HOST, username: process.env.DB_USER, password: process.env.DB_PASS, }) // ... } Note  : We will look at NEXT_PUBLIC below, but if you just use process.env without NEXT_PUBLIC, it will not run on the client (browser) (undefined). Note that environment variables can be used without NEXT_PUBLIC only at the server side (getStaticProps, getServerSideProps, etc.). Exposing environment variables to the browser (client) By default, environment variables are only available in the Node.js environment, so they are not exposed to the browser. For example, to expose a variable to the browser, prefix it with NEXT_PUBLIC_ :   NEXT_PUBLIC_ANALYTICS_ID=abcdefghijk This process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_ANALYTICS_ID is automatically loaded into the Node.js environment so you can use it anywhere in your code.   // pages/index.js import setupAnalyticsService from '../lib/my-analytics-service' // 'NEXT_PUBLIC_ANALYTICS_ID' can be used here as it's prefixed by 'NEXT_PUBLIC_'. // It will be transformed at build time to `setupAnalyticsService('abcdefghijk')`. setupAnalyticsService(process.env.NEXT_PUBLIC_ANALYTICS_ID) function HomePage() { return Hello World } export default HomePage Dynamic queries such as the following are not inlined  : // This will NOT be inlined, because it uses a variable const varName = 'NEXT_PUBLIC_ANALYTICS_ID' setupAnalyticsService(process.env) // This will NOT be inlined, because it uses a variable const env = process.env setupAnalyticsService(env.NEXT_PUBLIC_ANALYTICS_ID) Default environment variable Usually only one .env.local file is required. However, in some cases you may need to add some default values for development(next dev) or production(next start) environment .    Next.js accepts .env (all environments) , .env.development (development environments) , and .env.production (development environments) by default . .env.local is always set to a set default, overriding any other environment (which takes precedence). Note : The .env , .env.development and .env.production files define default values, so they must be included in the repository. The env*.local files must be added to your .gitignore and are where you can store your secrets Environment Variables in Vercel Next.js application When deploying to Vercel in project settings Environment variables can be configured. All types of environment variables must be configured here.  Environment variables used for development will also  be added later You can download it to your local device. development environment variables If you have configured .env.local , you can import that variable  for use on your local machine with the following command :  vercel env pull .env.local Environment variable load order
Environment variables are looked up in the following locations in order, stopping when a variable is found. - process.env - .env.$(NODE_ENV).local - .env.local( NODE_ENV is not picked up when test.) - .env.$(NODE_ENV) - .env For example, if NODE_ENV is in development mode, and you define .env.development.local and .env , .env.development.local   will be used.
