Plants love starch, so if u have cooked pasta or boiled potatoes save the water, let it cool and give it to ur plants. DO NOT GIVE THEM BOILING WATER THEY WILL DIE, I REPEAT THEY WILL DIE. I add a bowl under the pot with the holes (I forgot the name of it but you know what i mean). Then I put it in the refrigerator to cool and water my plants with it once its cold.
Plants loves coffee grounds. My friend gave her aloe plant coffee grounds and it grew like crazy.
Eggshells are a natural fertilizer. Wash out the slimy stuff from the eggshell and then ground it up into a fine powder, you'll know its ready when it look like fresh crack you can snort (please dont snort the eggshells). You can use a food processor if that helps. Sprinkle the powder on the soil.
Banana peels are a natural fertilizer too. Sun dry the banana peel, you can cut it up into smaller pieces for it to dry quicker. Its ready when its looks like bethany's heat damaged hair: crunchy. When the peels are crunchy, crush it up into a powder. Sprinkle the powder on your soil.
Talk to your plants. It actually helps them grow. Talk to them bout random shit, my plants are literally my therapist.

Every time I rant about the planet dying on Facebook at least two people delete me & at least one unfollows. I can't help but laugh/ cry at the same time. scientific/ environmental facts make people uncomfortable. Imagine how uncomfortable yall be when every coast is under water and you have done nothing to prepare yourselves but say "water levels have always risen!" And "the earth naturally heats and cools!" on Facebook. I'm ranting but preparing myself. I'm literally hoarding shit and I don't even care if that seems an over reaction. If you look at the facts it doesn't bode well for the average citizen if the climate keeps heating and water levels keep rising.

hi! question about sunscreens: i wear sunscreen on my face daily (my skin is extra photosensitive bc of my meds) that’s not ocean safe. i go through a lot of it and it’s just the less expensive option :/ is the residue of it going down the drain when i wash my face a problem? i’m transitioning to reef safe when i’m swimming in natural bodies of water tho!
Ok so I am in no way a professional and I super love that you are concerned about the environment, but your safety comes first.
To answer your question: the residue going down the drain is not an issue at all, especially if you live in an area where there are water regulations that monitor and clean grey water(waste water).
If you have a medically prescribed sunscreen, I encourage you to actually wear it, especially in the water because light is magnified while people are in water, either its being reflected off the surface onto your face or magnified by simply passing through the water, and it can lead to medical issues that are not worth it in the end. Yes the coral reefs are impacted by the sunscreen you wear in the water but it is also more severely impacted by the ocean acidification and oil spills that are being caused by irresponsible companies across the globe. Do not feel guilty about price or contents of your sunscreen if you have no choice because of medical, financial or any other issues. In the end, by learning about what is in our sunscreen and being aware of it, we bring more attention to larger issues at hand which is the main goal for people like me who post about things like this. I’m super sorry for the late reply, im still kinda new to tumblr but I hope this helped and reassured you a bit!

“Gates is a believer in free markets, and one of the key concepts in How to Avoid a Climate Disaster is based on Keynesian economics.”
Christina Binkley profiles Bill Gates’ new book, How to Avoid Climate Disaster:
“Gates’s team established unusual criteria for the fund. Any venture must feasibly eliminate a minimum of 500 million tons of greenhouse gases annually, with an investment horizon of at least 20 years, rather than the standard 10. That meant older participants might not live to see a payout.
“In another 20 years, you’re not going to be wondering if you got a return,” says Larry Cohen. “You’re wondering if there’s going to be a planet left for your great-grandchildren.”
Breakthrough Energy Ventures spurned institutional investors. “It’s easier to make these decisions when you don’t have to justify your lower investment returns to your boss,” says John Arnold, a Houston-based billionaire and former energy trader who invested in the fund and joined as co-chair.
In the fall of 2015, Gates emailed a global cadre of billionaires who could afford to lose tens of millions investing in Breakthrough Energy Ventures. They included Jack Ma, Jeff Bezos, Vinod Khosla and Prince al-Waleed bin Talal.”
I remember Milton Friedman’s comments on “Keynesians”
“There’s no doubt. . .that what would now be held and believed by people who call themselves Keynesian economists is very different from what these people would have believed ten or fifteen years ago. The label may stay the same, but the contents designated by that label have gradually been changing.”
Gates’ own free market solution for climate change tells the story:
“Gates nonetheless buys carbon offsets for his own footprint, paying, he says, $400 per ton—more than 40 times the price of typical offsets.”

Humans are tuned for relationship. The eyes, the skin, the tongue, ears, and nostrils—all are gates where our body receives the nourishment of otherness. This landscape of shadowed voices, these feathered bodies and antlers and tumbling streams—these breathing shapes are our family, the beings with whom we are engaged, with whom we struggle and suffer and celebrate. For the largest part of our species' existence, humans have negotiated relationships with every aspect of the sensuous surroundings, exchanging possibilities with every flapping form, with each textured surface and shivering entity that we happened to focus upon. All could speak, articulating in gesture and whistle and sigh a shifting web of meanings that we felt on our skin or inhaled through our nostrils or focused with our listening ears, and to which we replied—whether with sounds, or through movements, or minute shifts of mood. The color of sky, the rush of waves—every aspect of the earthly sensuous could draw us into a relationship fed with curiosity and spiced with danger. Every sound was a voice, every scrape or blunder was a meeting—with Thunder, with Oak, with Dragonfly. And from all of these relationships our collective sensibilities were nourished.
