I won't have to time to do this, because I have several wips that need completion first. (and I am in the midst of licensing purgatory) BUT how cool would a Black Christmas inspired k-pop frat house fic be? This thot was brought to you by my study movie of choice (the 2019 remake) + @minttangerines sent a tiktok ranking idols as fratboys.

I got bored in church today so I started coming up with band headcanons for the chain so here (sorry it’s really long I’m a huge band nerd)
concert band:
time - flute. he’s just the whimsical type to play flute, also he can go incredibly high and his fingers probably blur cuz of how fast he’s playing
twilight - baritone/euphonium. twi just seems like that mellow yet determined type, though he will get very aggressive if you call it a “mini-tuba”
warriors - trumpet. I don’t think I need to elaborate.
wind - trombone. wind is 100% a trombone kid- making jokes 24/7 and whether their funny or not is a 50/50. he blasts super loud to annoy everyone but he’s low key amazing at playing
four - four stumped me a bit. I’m not too 100% sure because his personality is rather complicated (hahahsrhjrjfjajajahz), but I think he’d play alto sax. he can play the others too; tenor, soprano and bari (ITS 5X HIS SIZE AHAHA).
legend - trumpet. he’d be first chair and extremely smug about it, though he’s so insanely good at trumpet. he makes a 3 octave instrument 5 octaves. he snarks a whole ton at the rest of his section and constantly has to put people in place (people aka warriors).
hyrule - flute. also very whimsical along with time. :) he seems like that happy type and just likes the flute cuz it makes a pretty sound. yes hyrule we love you for that <3
wild - percussion. so obviously percussion. he’s extremely good at everything in the back. he loves to double up on mallets (holding two mallets in each hand) and go ham. he can make it sound very pretty tho :) he can do fancy things with drumsticks and the metronome fears HIM. he also summons demons in the back of class during warm ups (very proud of him. if you couldn’t tell, I’m a percussionist).
sky - let’s be honest, he’d be in orchestra (what a traitor /pf). but if he were in band he’d defo play clarinet. very soft and mellow, and does the instrument justice. very attentive in class and definitely a teachers pet yet not to the extent it’s annoying. he just really enjoys being there.
jazz band:
time - he would play alto sax but would definitely do flute cameos whenever he could. he likes making the crowd go “WOAH! A FLUTE IN JAZZ? THATS EPIK”
twilight - I think he’d learn trombone for jazz. amazing at improvising and his solos are astounding round of applause for twilight 👏👏
warriors - still trumpet, he loves jazz and quite good at the whole concept. 10/10 he loves those high notes in his solos
wind - still trombone. he likes playing around with glissandos and very good at them. his playing is very fun and interesting!
four - i think he’d do piano despite the fact he has 4 saxes to choose from. a god at music theory and has so much fun with the piano. four’s fingers can stretch impossibly far to reach keys. that boy loves his soloing!
legend - trumpet as well. nothings really changed, he likes smooth jazz and you cannot change my mind. he’s usually pretty nonchalant about jazz but he secretly has so much fun with it.
hyrule - electric bass. he loves to have funky solo’s and makes it all look super easy. he can get super energetic and start having *too* much fun in which the band director needs to tell him to calm down 💀
wild - DRUMSEEET! my boy can really rock out on this thing. he really knows how to make the song interesting without being overpowering (sometimes). really good at making things pop
sky - upright bass! that lil guy loves his bass and rather shy with solos, preferring to let others do the solos. he downplays his 11/10 improvisation. which is stupid sky you are amazing at bass
extra headcanons:
time and hyrule would talk a lot in class despite the fact time tries to pay attention. those two have so much dirt on the rest of the band and they KNOW it.
wild and four like to go early before rehearsal to just screw around. whether it be remixing music or just straight up doing some crack stuff, they have a blast.
wind would help twilight with trombone since he’s still a bit new to it. even though he can be a bit annoying to the band, wind is a great teacher and twilight is improving a lot.
wind and warriors would be the evil duo of “who can blast the loudest”. everyone in the band despises them for it.
like I mentioned earlier, warriors is constantly challenging legend or just testing him in which legend blasts warrior’s ego everytime without fail.
more on the double mallets with wild, he quite enjoys making small peaceful songs or finding them to play. if you come early you can hear him practicing and his playing is very soothing. :)
like I said, sky would probably be in orchestra, but I like to think he does both. often doing cameos for both groups, as well. almost like the middle man because the band and orchestra hate it each other, but both agree sky is an exception and everyone cherishes him.
time is the president of the band. everyone loves time. the students and the director. he’s probably one of the best players in the band. extremely mature but in those SMALL moments he’ll do something devious.
twilight is also cherished by the band. he’s very hardworking and has adopted several students. many look up to him as he’s a bit more approachable than time. (time is scary to new people)
though warriors can be annoying, he’d never do anything purposely to screw up the band during performances or whatever. he loves being here even if he’s showing off 24/7.
four is really a jack of all trades when it comes to sax. everyone teases him whenever he plays bari due to the size difference, but no one goes to far because deep down their all scared of the tiny short gremlin who will start speaking in music theory language and confuse everyone.
wow, your still here? 💀 im concerned for your health and mine. really though, if you read all that, I admire your dedication and thanks for listening. there will certainly be more headcanons to come so if you liked this do not fret, it’s not the end. sorry this is so long and sorry for the people who talked in church that I shamelessly tuned out.

Weak Hero: Eps 261- 262 Reaction
SPOILERS ALERT
"Everyone is a cannibal as they suck each other’s blood. The people who walk take advantage of the people who crawl, selling their limbs away. What kind of mask should I wear to this degraded masquerade?" - 'NOCTURNE (TABLO'S WORD)' - Epik High
Tumblr media
We continue with Baekjin (Donald)'s journey towards the inferno the formation of the Union. It all started after he dropped out of school and gathered other kids to make money by doing some "dirty works" for rotten businessmen. Half of these kids were dropouts, the other half were not.
Tumblr media
In the underworld of crimes, reputation and rumors might turn one into a legend, and so this scrawny kid made his name....
...by destroying premises. By breaking and entering. By stealing stuff. By beating people up, including his stepfather and his former homeroom teacher (the latter got a special treatment by having his engagement ruined and being beaten to a pulp).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(And Seungjin (Myles) was there from the start. No wonder he was so tainted by the blood and dirty money).
Baekjin then thought of going back to school because he needed it for bureaucratic, sentimental, and strategic reasons (having "student" listed on his papers is better than having "dropout runaway" on them, plus the possibilities of branching out, and fulfilling his late mom's last wish).
He soon met the dejected, sheltered model student Seokhyeon (Kingsley).
Tumblr media
Or rather, it was Seokhyeon who saw Baekjin studying alone in the Yeoil High Library, as a new student who transferred in the 2nd semester under "special circumstances", as stated by their principal (we all know that he blackmailed that old cheater).
Soon Baekjin was bullied by senior year rich kids, and these kids too were succesfully suppressed, enough to made Seokhyeon wondered about this new kid. Was Baekjin that smart, finishing all entrance exams properly as was told? But yes, he was more than smart.
Tumblr media
Baekjin surprised Seokhyeon by reminding him that yes, they had in fact met briefly 3 years ago. Baekjin was that scholarship student whose case made it to the papers. Soon, as Baekjin explained that Seokhyeon's utopian worldview was nonsense and that the real world and real numbers (money) were out there, Seokhyeon was persuaded that Baekjin could fulfill his ideals of a perfect world. Boy this sounds like a cult recruitment.
Tumblr media
Soon, they started the founding of the Union, with Baekjin, Seungjin and the others as the brawns and Seokhyeon assisting Baekjin with the strategies, all the time while being apprehensive about the blood that was spilled.
A year had since passed...

"The tefl online pro program was at the top of the list"
tefl online pro review, submitted by Connie. As a qualified teacher with 10+ years of experience teaching within the public school system, I didn’t even consider that I would need a TEFL/TESOL certificate to teach in South Korea. I applied directly to the EPIK organization, which is the umbrella organization for recruiting teachers in South Korea. When I was preparing all of my documents for the…

My parasocial relationships with Idols:
Tablo, a teacher. I see him as one of those very few teachers who absolutely impacts your life for the better. Whether it's listening to Epik High, his solos, his podcast, or reading his interviews, I want to learn all I can. I value his words and opinions more than for most irl.
Lee Hyori and Lee Sangsoon, my auntie and uncle, literally... I cheer for everything they do as if I really were part of their family. Also, I'm so thankful for the numerous times Hyori's Homestay brought me a sense of peace, and I really want to visit Jeju to live this peace.
Bambam, my best friend from afar, and who doesn't know about it. I don't get my attachment to Bam myself, I just know that when he does anything, I'm more anxious, proud, and happy than I am for most people, even irl... like when he met his lifelong idol Taeyeon? I was so proud of my boy!!
Taemin, my kid, although I'm younger than him. I feel so protective over him, I don't engage in fanwars and even less in violence, but I would fight for him. I want nothing more than the best for him, I want him to eat well, be happy, sleep well, do what he loves...
IU, the loml, in a platonic way... I want to be in her circle because she was there for me through my ups and downs, and naturally, I want to do as much for her. I also want to take care of her beyond what you would usually feel for an idol.
Eunchae, my little cousin? This is a very recent addition, but I feel the need to cheer for her and encourage her so I even tune in to watch her mc when I've been a kpop stan for so long that I had stopped watching music shows long ago. She's so pretty and cute and talented. She makes me feel the same pride I feel whenever I spend time around my actual little cousin.

24 January 2023
Tumblr media
I've been doing a lot of introspective thinking over the past few weeks and have realized that while I am living a good life, I also need to make a decision soon about what I'm going to do next with it.
Yes, COVID may have pushed back some of my plans, but I still need to make some decisions within the next few years.
I have decided to stay in Korea for another two years, so until the summer/fall of 2025. By that time I will have been in Korea for over nine years.
This also got me thinking: As of February 20th of next month, I will have been in Korea for seven years. I arrived here in Korea as a teacher on February 20th, 2016.
I have kept track of many of the people I went through EPIK training with and while many of them did 2-3 years in Korea and went home, there are still a handful of people that are still here. I know someone I went through my EPIK training with back in 2016 who was placed at a school near me in Paju city who still lives in Paju but works at a different school now.
But that's the thing about life: everybody is making their own decisions about what they should be doing and how they should be advancing their lives, and that's okay.
I will enjoy the time I have left here, but I also need to keep looking at the future. Just like my time here, it will certainly have its ups and downs, and I just need to do my best to roll with them.
Tumblr media
In other news, I still have not been in contact with my former friend. She tried sending me messages about some event a group she is a part of is looking for, but I didn't answer.
I seriously think she doesn't know what she did in December. Frankly, I am beginning to not care at this point. I'm taking my time to grow mentally and emotionally past her, and I know that I will be better for it.
I've run an outline of what she did past several friends (without mentioning her name to them) and they all kept telling me to cut her out of my life. If she was willing to do something like that and not even apologize for it, then she should just pound sand.
I'm continuing to work on that.
More to come.

December 31st , 2019.
Yes. It’s the last day of the year. The perfect time to convince yourself that in 2020 you’re going to develop this and that great habit that will be absolutely change your life and steer you on the path to success.
I know that we all roll our eyes at New Year’s resolutions. We instantly write them off as empty self-promises; but what if they weren’t?
Something feels different about this year. I have never been a believer in New Year’s resolutions but I cannot deny the feeling that next year will bring a lot of positive change. Especially towards my career advancement. I can feel the amount of hard work that I’m going to have to put in, and my goals have never felt clearer.
It may be because 2019 was a year of drastic change for me, having uprooted myself from living in the same house, in South Africa, my whole life - to living alone in South Korea, with a huge career change, but I cannot emphasize the pull I am getting from 2020 enough?
I guess what I’m getting at is that we shouldn’t write off the things we want to do and fall into the New Year’s resolution trap. This new decade is demanding action. Do your best to take it, even if it’s one small step at a time.

Whose Pastime Is It?
Ok FIRST....I know this blog has been severely lacking in updates (which you can get much more frequently over on my YouTube channel) and I attribute that primarily to being very busy at work and learning all the new systems. Not a great excuse, I realize, BUT I promise the updates will be more frequent now that I’m settling in to the swing of things.
Tumblr media
As you may know if you are subscribed to my YouTube channel, a couple weeks ago, Rob and I went to a local baseball game at the stadium near us (check it out here) . And I use the word local liberally. Our “home” team just won the Korean World Series (Go SK!).  It was amazing and currently one of my favorite things we have done here, but all of that is in the YouTube video. Today, as promised, I am belatedly going to explain who this slightly blurry woman is and the story behind meeting her.
Tumblr media
When we arrived at the stadium and bought our tickets, the clerk asked us which team we were there to support. We said Wyverns, received our tickets, and were directed to our gate. However, when we arrived at our section, we quickly realized we were in enemy territory. I was a bit upset, because we wanted to cheer on the team for our Korean hometown.
In the midst of squinting at our tickets and our seats and debating quietly with each other, a woman approached us. She spoke almost no English, and the English she did speak was heavily accented and hard to understand. Honestly, based solely on appearance (which should be a lesson on why you should never do this), I thought she might be homeless.
I smiled at her as she spoke to us and tried, in a polite way, to indicate that we could not understand her. She was insistent, however, and gestured at our tickets and at the field. Again, I shook my head, trying to indicate that I had no ever-loving clue what she was saying. She then, very gently and very insistently, took me by the wrist and led/dragged me over to the other side of the field where the home team seats were and pointed excitedly to show us that here indeed was where we could sit if we wanted to cheer on the Wyverns.
We thanked her profusely in our broken Korean and excitedly began watching the game, (after, of course, buying a bunch of Wyverns gear to show our support).
This, however, is not where our story ends. Because a few innings in our seat angel returned with beer that she handed us excitedly. Rob and I looked at each other with understanding. Aha. Here was the catch. She helped us and now she brought us beers and then asks for money. I dig into my purse, showing her around $5 and ask if it’s enough, but my American mentality was once again put to shame. She refused the money and sat in the aisle next to our seats smiling and drinking and trying to have a conversation with us. Where are we from? Where do we live? What do we do? The beer she gave us was sealed, so there was no suspicion to be had there. She simply wanted to make friends.
After a bit of conversation, she raises a final toast and disappears back into the crowd, leaving us with a warm fuzzy feeling that was not entirely due to the beer.
More and more each day, Korean kindness is slowly breaking down the American suspicion and mistrust I have built around myself after a lifetime in the U.S. Needless to say, I am learning a lot from these wonderful people, and cannot wait to see what else this amazing country and this incredible journey have to teach me.
Until the next adventure,
Emi

How To Get Around Jeju Island
Tumblr media
While there is plenty to do on Jeju Island, it’s easy to get lost if you’re taking public transportation. I live here and the bus routes are confusing. Not only are the bus route times inconsistent, but depending on the time of day, the buses will change routes. If you’re only going to visit the island for a few days, then you can catch a cab to get around. Taking a cab is inexpensive; roughly 8,000 won (5 US dollars) for a 20-minute ride.
PUBLIC TRANSIT UPDATE If you plan to go the cheaper route, then you’re in luck! Apparently, the bus system has been improved. Let’s go over the basics.
Jeju Island is divided into two large cities. The northern half is Jeju City and the southern half is Seogwipo City. Jeju City consists of Chujado, Blyangdo, Chagwido, Hangyeong, Hallim, Aewol, Jeju City, Jocheon, Gujwa, and Udo. Seogwipo City consists of Gapado, Daejeong, Andeok, Jungmun, Seogwipo, Namwon, Pyoseon, and Seongsan.
Jeju buses are numbered based on how far they travel: 100s - Intercity Buses (between Jeju and Seogwipo) 200s, 300s, 500s - City Buses (within city) 400s, 600s, 700s - Village Buses 810s and 820s - Tourist/Sightseeing Buses
Jeju buses are color coded: -Red buses follow the Jeju Express routes -Blue buses follow the Jeju Intercity routes -Green buses follow the branch routes -Yellow buses follow the tourist areas
Jeju Bus Fare -One way on a city bus (without transfers) will cost you a flat rate of only 1,200 won in cash (that’s less than 1 US dollar) or only 1,150 won with a T-money Card -One way on an intercity bus will cost you anywhere from 1,300-3,300 won (that’s 1-3 US dollars) depending how far you are traveling -One way from Jeju to Seogwipo or vice versa will cost you about $3,300 won
Get a T-money Card You can purchase a T-money Card (transit card) at any convenience store (or the 7-Eleven at the airport). The card itself will cost 2,500 won and you can add money to it on the spot and refill it whenever you start to run low on transportation funds. Depending on how many places you want to visit, will affect how much you’ll want to load onto your card. If you’re traveling with one other person, then you can save money by purchasing one T-money card and sharing it. But if you’re traveling with a group that might separate or get separated at some point, then it’s probably best to get a T-money card for each person. I’d start by loading 25,000 won onto the card, which could last you anywhere from 2-5 days depending on how far you travel each day.
