If I had a nickel for every time in Campaign 2, a non-exhaustive list:
...a member of the Nein was woken up from a patron vision to get their ass kicked by a servant of that patron in the middle of a storm, ending in them falling from the full height of the mast of the ship they're sailing on (46: A Storm of Memories, 98: Dark Waters)
...the Nein Polymorphed a dangerous creature into a turtle, then had to Polymorph that turtle into something else because the turtle somehow still posed a threat (60: A Turtle By Any Other Name, 100: Hunted At Sea)
...a member of the Nein Polymorphed a giant into a four-legged creature that would go on to deal a surprising amount of damage to Fjord (50: The Endless Burrows, 60: A Turtle By Any Other Name)
...a member of the Nein was drowned and woke up magically different (Veth and Fjord)
...Fjord stood in a volcano, disrespected a powerful sea creature with delusions of godhood, and left that conversation without his sword (72: Clay and Dust, 102: Ghosts, Dinosaurs, and Stuff)
...a member of the Nein from the Menagerie Coast put themselves in physical danger at a volcano to shout demands at a distant and indifferent higher power (72: Clay and Dust, 108: Traveler Con)
...a female cult leader dedicated to a being who isn't actually a god but pretended to true divinity kissed Fjord (40: Dubious Pursuits, 118: Solace Between The Secrets)
...a member of the Nein had a vision of aid from a god representing a ferocity of nature, which gifted them a boon in line with their personal progress and growth, and the next morning they used that boon to catch the woman they love while she was falling from a height of 70+ feet (65: Chases and Trees, 106: A Fog Lifted)
...a member of the Nein pledged to the Wildmother had a terrifying nightmare on the same night Yasha had a profound religious experience (98: Dark Waters, 125: The Neverending Day)
...Fjord got separated from the group by going through a magically hidden entrance and Matt refused to describe what happened to him until the rest of the party resolved what they were going to do (45: The Stowaway, 103: Maritime Mysteries)
...Fjord and Jester flirted in a drinking establishment one of the other Nein hung out in as a teenager, while it smelled like shit (93: Misery Loves Company, 109: Frigid Propositions)
...a member of the Nein, when asked to give up something of great value by a powerful creature, got out of the bargain without losing anything at all by making a deceptive offering (93: Misery Loves Company, 102: Ghosts, Dinosaurs, and Stuff)
...Fjord turned down even attempting a long rest to keep watch against an enemy feared to be coming upon them in the night (81: From Door to Door, 133: Hunter and the Hunted)
...a captain speaking in a Texan accent and granted magic by Uk'otoa was entangled in an intimate relationship with Avantika (Fjord per 40: Dubious Pursuits, Vandran per 141: Fond Farewells)
...a beloved character killed several dozen episodes prior was seen raised again, appearing during a blizzard in the northern reaches of Wildemount in the final minutes of an episode (111: New Homes And Old Friends, 112: The Chase Begins, consecutive episodes!)
...the Nein had to Polymorph three of their group to chase an enemy through the cold of northern Wildemount in a Perception check sequence to retrieve an orb-shaped item that was stolen from them (113: A Heart Grown Cold, 123: Fair-weather Faith)
...Fjord was attacked by servants of Uk'otoa during a storm in the middle of traveling for the purposes of totally unrelated business that was connected to the Assembly, and Vess was marginally present but missed the entire combat (98: Dark Waters, 112: The Chase Begins and 113: A Heart Grown Cold)
...a spellcasting goblin had an antisocial wizard friend who is both suffering the great shame of a ruinous decision they made and worryingly interested in time travel magic to possibly undo a mistake (Veth and Caleb, Uraya and Essek)
...Yussa, after being well appraised of the dangers to especially mages of the location he was about to travel to, got himself trapped without any meaningful way to communicate his predicament (The Folding Halls, Cognouza)

C2E103
Moving right along with Campaign 2, Episode 103-- “Maritime Mysteries” (no, not “Buttholes and Shit.”) Honestly this was another episode with some really good moments, and looking back on it I can believe all of these events happened in the same episode! Spoiler warning as always for my liveblogs below!
Tumblr media
- “Pace would be... two to three miles per hour.” “Thirty-five miles per hour.” The return of Narrative Telephone dfghjkl
- “slight problem... we don’t have a boat.” UHHHHHH RUH ROH
- that freaking dragon turtle.... i thought it would take longer for that to come back and bite them but nope dfghjkl mr dragon turtle was ALL fed up
- Beau and Jester falling through the air, scrambling to grab each other, and then Dimension Door-ing to the ground was such a good moment
- Aw, Jester tearing up during her conversation with the Traveler, she is so sweet :((( (Also the Traveler knowing about the forgetfulness and hedging on it as a “backup plan” fgshjkl.... a true chaos deity)
- Fjord and Yasha’s sparring match fghjkl;slkdj we stan
- This ‘Programmed Image’ sequence is really getting to me tonight y’all.... I don’t know why it’s making me so emotional but it is, I just love the Mighty Nein so much
- Yasha asking to fall asleep next to the memory of her and Zuala, no no I am fine do not worry about me there is just something in my eye is all  😭
- Okay, what the HECK is stealing their stuff??
- OH NO YASHA
- Awww her wings though that’s lovely
 - “oh my god it’s the chair” SAM PLEASE SHDKLDKF
 - If I had a nickel for every time Fjord rolled a Natural 1 when trying to attack Caleb, I would have two nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice
 - OH NO BEAU
- Caduceus truly is having a rough go of it on this island
- That 12 vs 7 strength check sdfghjksl
- Caduceus casting Blindness while Fjord holds onto him and desperately burns through all of his spells, I’m so freaking tense about this
- “Caduceus breaks out of your grip, and you are Blinded. You’re not sure where he is...” stop hurting me like this, Matthew Mercer!
- The way that Fjord said “I’m useless” nooooo bby  😭
- Well that was an unexpectedly tense and emotional ending... if they end up facing Vokodo like this (and especially with Caduceus being possibly unprepared and commanded), then it’s going to be an even worse face-to-face than it could have been and auuughhh I’m just so nervous, I hope everything turns out okay...

"I've been thinking Counterspell for a fucking hour! Counterspell!" — A Look at Counterspells in Campaign 2
Ah, Counterspell, the sexiest of all D&D spells. Certainly used to great and memorable effect in Campaign 2. Here's some numbers and charts on that.
Counterspell was cast a total of twenty-eight (28) times by nine (9) different casters.
It was used to attempt to interrupt seventeen (17) unique spells cast by fourteen (14) different spellcasters.
141: Fond Farewells, naturally, features the highest number of Counterspells in an episode with eight (8), which is about twenty-eight percent (28%) of all Counterspells attempted over the campaign.
Caleb's first Counterspell is in 43: In Hot Water, and Fjord's first Counterspell is in 63: Intervention.
The Fjord-Otis-Caleb Counterspell chain in 123: Fair-weather Faith is the longest chain of Counterspells in the campaign.
The most common reason to for a Counterspell was to prevent a teleport. The second most common was to stop another Counterspell, which was the most commonly targeted individual spell.
Only three spellcasters cast it more than once: Caleb, Fjord, and Trent.
Trent is the only caster to have had all three possible results for a Counterspell: success, failure, and countered by another Counterspell.
Poor Jester was targeted most.
Tumblr media
Caleb cast the greatest number of Counterspells over the course of the campaign, which makes sense given that he's a player character and he's a wizard with a lot of spell slots! He cast twelve (12) total, forty-three percent (43%) of all attempted Counterspells.
Travis prefers to reserve his Counterspells for when Caleb is unable to perform one, be that he is too far or he does not have a reaction, but Fjord has performed his fair share as well with the next highest attempted: six (6), or twenty-one (21%) of all attempted. This also makes sense, given he is also a player character.
Despite being in only two initiatives, Trent takes third with four (4) cast, or fourteen (14%) of attempted Counterspells.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The majority of Counterspells were successful with twenty-one (21) successes, or seventy-five percent (75%) of all attempts succeeding. Ten (10) of the successes were auto-succeed by casting at a higher level than the targeted spell and eleven (11) were rolled, splitting that almost directly down the middle.
As a note, as far as I can tell, the two (2) failed Counterspells should have auto-succeeded: Fjord cast a 5th-level Counterspell against a 5th-level Thunderwave and Trent cast a minimum 3rd-level Counterspell against a 3rd-level Dispel Magic; however, these were rolled and failed at the table.
Caleb, Fjord, and Trent are the only casters to cast Counterspell more than once. Of these three, Trent is the only one to have a success rate of less than fifty percent (50%), as he has a success rate of only twenty-five percent (25%). Caleb and Fjord, on the other hand, both have success rates of over eighty percent (80%), with Caleb sitting at a little above ninety percent (90%).
Tumblr media
Every player character spellcaster in the Nein—colored green above—has been targeted by a Counterspell at least once. Of those, Fjord is the only one who was never successfully interrupted; Caleb Counterspelled Otis' Counterspell targeting Fjord.
Still, eleven (11) Counterspells attempted to interrupt the Nein, about thirty-nine percent (39%) of all Counterspell attempts. The remainder were targeting hostile casters, colored red above.
Jester has the distinction of most targeted with five (5), and Caleb and Trent share second place with four (4) each. Poor Jester, who can't even cast Counterspell herself.
Fjord is the only caster in the entire bunch who targeted an ally: Caduceus, who was casting Blindness on him while charmed in 103: Maritime Mysteries. (Also, Travis mentioned in 63: Intervention that he would've attempted to Counterspell Caleb's Fireball, cast while charmed in 55: Duplicity, had he remembered Fjord knew Counterspell at the time but alas.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The most common reasons behind Counterspelling are "I didn't say you can leave" and "I say we CAN cast this spell, actually". There were eight (8) attempts to interrupt a teleport, twenty-nine percent (29%) of all attempts, and six (6) attempts to interrupt a Counterspell, twenty-two (22%) of attempts; together, these make up more than half of Counterspells attempted.
Counterspell, Dimension Door, Dominate Person, and Word of Recall are the only spells to have been targeted more than once. Again, poor Jester, because the combined four (4) targeted instances of Dominate Person and Word of Recall were all cast by her.
Fjord's favored target spell was teleportation spells, with three (3) interruptions, all successful, or half of his Counterspell attempts. Caleb's favored target spell was Counterspell, with four (4) interruptions, all successful, or one-third of his Counterspell attempts.
A previous chart notes that only five (5) Counterspells were successfully countered, different from these six (6) attempts. This is because of the Fjord-Otis-Caleb Counterspell chain. Because Otis' Counterspell was successfully interrupted, Fjord's Counterspell was targeted but not interrupted; this makes that Counterspell from Fjord the only Counterspell targeted by another Counterspell to successfully continue through.
ETA: Here's the updated version, and I'd like to thank @occidentalavian for pointing out the missed Nullifer Counterspell.
ETA ETA: OKAY, THIS time it's properly updated.
