I should not have so willingly taken up the mantle of “Mikey,” like that was the moniker I deserved, because I was, what, younger? And now I am forever fated to it. That’s going to be on my tombstone. Because Michael is going to pick out my tombstone.

Proverb: “I’m all business,” I say, peeling off my skin strip by strip, showing you what oozes out. “Business to my core.”

I wasn’t sure I’d survive the Solstice, Imogen continues. Or not knowin’ what happened to you. Or my Ruidus dream. And just now, I wasn’t sure I’d make it out of that thing’s mouth in one piece. We still don’t know what’ll happen on the other side of all this gods shit. Imogen wrings her fingers a little and stares down at the motions. It just feels inevitable, I guess.
Laudna uses one digit to gently lift Imogen’s chin until purple meets dark brown. What feels inevitable, Imogen?
Not survivin’, she answers quietly, with a small shrug.

(A conversation in the cavern, post-67. Title from "Labyrinth" by Taylor Swift, but vibes technically from "You're On Your Own, Kid".)

Also, while I'm on the topic of episode 67.
Please tell me I'm not the only one who expected this scene to be a setup for Aki to duel the vice principal. Can you imagine?????

“I’m fucking scared, Mike,” I said.
“You’re scared? Look at that guy,” he gestured over to Michael who was on the other side of the apartment, bare-chested with jeans and cowboy boots on, loading bullets into a sidearm. “He’s scared. He’s scared of everything all the time.

"I'll win by sticking to tradition!"
*proceeds to fusion summon in a rush duel, two things that only existed for a couple years in this timeline*
Yeah. Real fucking traditional. Great way to forward your already backwards ass thinking you dumbass fish.

Excerpt from Rhyme (2006) by Robert Pinsky
In Episode 67, Rachel brings a really jazzy poem to the mix.
Rachel: In an interview he (Robert Pinsky) did in 2013, they're asking him what people can do to make poetry more accesible, and he says "Art takes care of itself: its appeal is endless, like the appeal of cuisine beyond nutrition, lovemaking beyond copulation, dance beyond locomotion. Poetry meets a fundamental craving, the mind meeting the body in the sounds of words."
This is one of those cases where I personally became more interested and fascinated by the poet than the specific poem itself. If you’d like to hear more abour Robert Pinsky's efforts to promote poetry, and make it more accesible, you can do so here: A Fleet of Wienerdrones, from 13:15-21:17.
You can also check out his website The Art of Poetry where you can find many of his poems, and his Massive Open Online Course about poetry!

Episode 67 really is just peeling back the curtain of night vale to make it very fucking clear that, yes, the world did end outside of night vale and reality has been fucking weird(er) since 1983
