“Eren,” her voice quiet, as if she’s struggling to find the right words. “You’re-you’re my most beloved, my dear.” Mikasa looks up to him, her eyes bright, almost teary at the admittance.

He looks at her dumbfounded, his mouth agape—nothing could have prepared him for this response. The pressure within him dissipates, replacing with something he could foolishly identify as optimism.

He has been presented with a selfish decision that unfortunately has to be made, and this is one of them. If he—they—make it, they would be abandoning their friends, people they would consider the closest thing to family since they had lost their own, leaving them and their home.

But Mikasa, she would always be worth it—a decision Eren realizes he should have made long ago, but was blinded by childish rage and senseless pride.

So before he can make the same mistake twice, he takes Mikasa’s hand in his, not bothering to look back at the life they would be leaving behind, and he runs.

my fav chap in i dreamed i left you is actually chapter 8 when mikasa talks about how much she desires eren. desire and longing is my favourit-est thing to write about in the whole world (you probably know this already lol), and it is one of the pieces of my writing that i return to when i am faced with crippling self-doubt.

this is the first time eren is touching mikasa's body. mikasa feels like eren is touching her soul.

eren has always had a greedy, impatient, demanding air to him, and mikasa feels as if she is being changed by it. when she kisses him she feels like she is drinking him in, stealing little parts of his personhood, and tattooing it on her skin.

rereading this part always does something to me because i feel like a love-drunk soul is akin to a child on their knees saying "i want this, i want this, i don't know why, but i need to have it. please give it to me." i think all of us experience this painful moment at some point or the other, when you strip back all the layers of carefully thought out reasoning to realise that you are just a creature made of want. there is a similar dialogue exchange in boy next door, in the chapter that i am about to post. i used to feel insecure about the fact that i am always writing the same thing. but i realised now that it doesn't have to be a weakness. i am obsessed with this: i will write about my obsession. i think good things are made from obsession, sometimes.

last snippet, i promise :) i really love this part too, because love can feel incredibly hopeless sometimes. here mikasa feels hopeless, and weak in the face of it. she feels as if it is making her and unmaking her simultaneously. mikasa is a fairly proud woman and she isn't fond of what this experience with eren is reducing her to; but she wouldn't give it up for anything. she is ashamed and overwhelmed and upset because she knows he isn't going to be her forever man, but if a piece of him is all she will get then she will take it.

ahhh @joannaofarkham tysm for asking me to talk about idily. i love it, i love these characters, i love their story. i get some worried messages asking if i have abandoned it: i haven't. <3

I've been meaning to rewrite this fic and I'm finally happy to start posting the rewrite!! I will go into more detail when I post on my AO3 as to why I decided to rewrite this story but the main reason behind it was I felt as though certain parts of the plot were rushed and I didn't plan it very well.

I mainly took a long time to write it not just because of life being life, but also due to imposter syndrome and my own harsh critiques on my writing. However, I'm learning that you honestly don't practice and just write, you can't improve so here I am!! 🥰🥰

anyway, I've finally rewritten the first chapter and I'm actually ready to post it! I just need to edit it and make sure that it actually makes sense 😭😭

The ending of this little fic is up! Yes, some songs end, and other morph into new ones. Here, we see Mikasa's wedding unfold before our eyes, told by the impressions of the people who matter her the most.

Some thoughts

It's been so fun writing this little fic, mainly because I had the idea a year back, while I was backpacking through Iceland. Back then, I thought I had to finish RJ before I started writing this. When I decided I didn't want to write for the EM fandom anymore, the first chapter of Liquid Confidence was sitting in my drafts. Eventually, I said to myself that I wouldn't go out before writing my last idea for them, and then words started spilling. Writing from a song structure has been sometimes challenging, even more in Mikasa's contradictory thoughts and feelings. Nonetheless, it's been fun (and long. This was supposed to be a one-shot).

Even though the fic is angsty and short, I feel like it encapsulates a lot of my growing up with this fandom these two / three years. The first fic I wrote for EM was about figuring out your dreams in college. The second one was figuring out your dreams after, and which role love played in your life. The third one is about grudges and moving on, and how to forgive. This one talks about motherhood, marriage and long-time promises. Even though I believe that there's not just a soulmate in your life (and so I have been preaching in my fics), I realized I have been all my life with just one partner, and he might be a soulmate, too. So, writing Liquid Confidence was more about acknowledging these contradictions and playing with what society demands of us, our childhood wishes and our self-worth.

I know one doesn't have to ask for comments, but if you read it, I'd like to know what you think about it. It's been almost a year in making, 70 pages long, and a lot of playful writing (maybe I'll do a post about it soon). Thank you for your patience regarding the updates.

To taste every inch of her skin and to consume every part of her existence. But he’s too ashamed by his selfishness to instigate anything more, no matter how much he craves it. So he settles, instead, for clumsily reciprocating her kisses. “So, you ready to answer my billions of questions?” She asks genuinely.

“Yeah I am,” Eren answers. He’s not sure why exactly that is his answer, either because he wants to see if she’s actually what she says she is or the slight ease that he is starting to feel around her. Regardless, much to his surprise, Eren is determined to find out which one it is
