MY OWN BOY MEETS WORLD REBOOT - WHO'S WHO (I)

Lately I wrote and posted two entries about ideas I had for a hypothetical Boy Meets World reboot (that you can read if you want to here and here). Because of numerous deviations in regards to the original material that I plan to make, I decided that it would be a nice next step to make a few posts explaining each character, which ones would be the new ones and what would they contribute to the story, and which ones would be the already existing and what alterations I could’ve made to them. Hope all of you enjoy it, and I’d probably (definitely) write posts explaining each one of the most relevant characters in more detail, using these posts as master lists.

THE MATTHEWS-MUNROE FAMILY

One of the major changes I wanted to make to the show is to change the family dynamic a little. So, instead of Alan being Cory and Eric’s father, he’s now their stepfather, with the boys’ biological father being a different character who died before the show’s events take place. At the same time, Alan would also be a widower with two children of his own from his previous marriage, a boy around the same age as Cory and a girl. Part of the conflict in the first seasons, both dramatic and comical, would come from Cory trying to adapt to this new environment. We’d also see more of both Amy and Alan’s respective families.

Cory Matthews. Amy’s youngest son from her previous marriage. At the start of the show, after finding out her mother is seeing someone, he doesn’t have trouble getting along with Alan, but Kurt and him are instantly appalled by the idea of having to not only live together, but also share a room. A turning point for him would be when he joins the audiovisuals club and then the theater club, where he’s forced to spend more time with those classmates he used to make fun of thinking they were nerds and weirdos, eventually befriending them. He’d also become more appreciative and considerate towards the good teachers he has, including Feeny ofc.

Eric Matthews. Cory’s older brother and Amy’s first born son. At the start of the show he would seem like a vain, self-centered teenager more concerned about chasing skirts and being popular among his peers than caring about his brother or his grades. When the Munroes move in, in contrast with Cory, he doesn’t have any trouble whatsoever getting along with Kurt, but he’d have it with Alan. Most of Eric’s character arc would be like in the original BMW (graduating high school, failing his SATs at his first attempt, getting into college at its second, moving into Jack’s apartment), only without dumbing him down as each season passes, although he would still act a little bit eccentric, and making him bisexual and ending up with Jack.

Kurt Munroe. Alan’s first born son from his first marriage. He’s also Cory’s classmate, but the two of them are not friends, with Cory usually making fun of him for being into things that he considers girly. Because of this, he’s less than pleased about the idea of becoming Cory’s stepbrother and living with him, even teaming up with Cory to make their parents break up, although they’re soon discovered and grounded. But eventually the two boys warm up to each other until they become pretty close. Ironically enough, he never had trouble getting along with Eric from the beginning, which makes Cory jealous. He’s also one of the only five members the theater club originally has, and the only one of the two boys, besides Arthur Kacavas. As he grows up he realizes he’s into boys instead of girls, with Eric being one of the first people he tells him about.

Alan Munroe. Kurt and Megan’s father, he’s a long time employee at a store where Amy usually buys groceries. At the start of the show they start dating and then get married, with Alan becoming Eric and Cory’s stepfather. By the mid-seasons Alan quits his job to open his own business.

Amy Matthews (née O’Brien). Cory and Eric’s mother. She works as a paralegal in a law firm. At the start of the show she starts dating Alan Munroe, whom she spends up marrying, becoming Kurt and Megan’s stepmother. 

Megan Munroe. Alan’s youngest daughter.

Finn Matthews. Amy’s first husband and Eric and Cory’s biological father, he died when Cory was only four years old, so he barely remembers anything about him, and whenever the subject is brought up, Amy and Eric, as well as Feeny of all people, react with extreme discomfort. Amy and him met in college, and he worked as a teacher in several high schools, with John Adams High being one of them. He was also the captain of the basketball team when he was in high school, one of the main reasons why Cory wants to join in. 

Elizabeth Munroe (née Hummel). Alan’s first wife and Kurt and Megan’s biological mother. Alan and her met when they were in high school. Like Finn, she died before the show’s events.

Cory O’Brien. Cory’s maternal grandfather, despite the fact that he was named after him he’s not particularly close to him for a variety of reasons: First, he lives in a different estate, Ohio to be more specific, and second, and the most important one, emotionally speaking his mother and him are not exactly close to each other, either.

Richard O’Brien. Amy’s younger brother, who unlike her, managed to become a lawyer and now lives in New York. The relationship between the siblings is kinda vitriolic, especially because Amy always felt that their father unfairly favored her brother. And also because Richard likes to act like a smug around her.

Maurice Matthews and Claire Matthews (née Calvert). Eric and Cory’s paternal grandparents. They’re from New Jersey. Unlike with his maternal grandfather, Cory is pretty close to them. Amy also has a close relationship to them, despite the fact that they’re just her parents-in-law.

Mildred Munroe. Alan’s younger sister, because none of their parents were barely present when they grew up she was basically raised by her brother. She still acts like a wild party animal, and Cory initially sees her as his cool aunt, although as he grows up he starts to see that it’s more complicated than that. Despite her general immaturity, she’s able to give good advice to her nephews from time to time, especially to Eric and Kurt, probably because being a lesbian herself she has a better grasp of what they’re going through.

Bernice Munroe. Alan’s mother. Similarly to Mildred’s case, Cory initially sees her as a cool granny, but the more he learns about her and how she raised Alan and Mildred, which it’s not very different to how Chet raised Shawn, the more he realizes that the situation isn’t what it seemed at first. After her first appearance, the rest of her sporadic appearances have the running gag of her bringing a new boyfriend every single time, saying he’d definitely be the one this time, with Alan being quite skeptical (and eventually proven right) about it.

Eddie Munroe. Alan’s father. Besides his name and the fact that he was even less around his kids than his wife when they grew up, little information about him is revealed, with Alan himself saying at one point that he doesn’t even know if he’s still alive.

Hugh Hummel. Kurt’s maternal grandfather. He never liked Alan, and even after his daughter’s death he remains hostile towards him. Despite this, he looks after his grandchildren. Granted, this is only in regards to his daughter’s biological kids, with him not even bothering to learn Eric and Cory’s names being a running gag.

STUDENTS FROM JOHN ADAMS HIGH (I). CORY'S CLASSMATES AND FRIENDS

Characters that are introduced as Cory’s classmates, and who eventually become part of Cory’s friend group and the main cast. Most of them would also be expies/pastiches/inspired by characters from other shows about teens at school that were released after BMW ended its original run, mostly Glee, Victorious and Euphoria.

Shawn Hunter. Cory’s best (and at the start of the show, actually only) friend since they met back in elementary school. Like in the original, Shawn comes from a less economically stable background, having been raised in a trailer park, and a more dysfunctional family, with a father who constantly leaves and returns. The three biggest departures from the original would be that he’d actually be one year older than Cory and Topanga, with him being held back a year when he was in elementary school; he would’ve to join the theater club because one teacher says he found a lighter and firecrackers on his locker (they aren’t Shawn’s, the teacher planted there), in exchange to not tell Feeny about it, which means that Shawn could be expelled from the school, with Shawn initially hating it but then enjoying it and befriending the other few students at the club; and that by the mid-seasons he’d be adopted by Mr. Turner and his love interest in this version, Audrey (who btw, is @oceangirl24’s OC, and I want to thank her so much for giving me permission).

Topanga Curtis. Cory’s love interest. Instead of constantly retconning when they first met like the original show did, Cory and Topanga would have met at summer camp when they were at elementary school and they sorta dated, with Cory not thinking too much once it was over until he found out that not only Topanga moved to Philadelphia, but that she was going to attend the same school as him. Another major changes would be that, instead of moving from Philadelphia in one episode to return the next one right after, it would take her more than a season to come back; being raised by a single mother instead of a married couple; and instead of deciding not to go to Yale to go to the same college as Cory, she would end up going to Yale.

Arthur Kacavas. Cory’s classmate who starts as the closest to a Minkus’ counterpart alongside Emilia, being the straight A student that Cory and Shawn see as the teacher’s pet. But the more the two boys get to know him, the more they realize he’s not so different from them, with even Shawn finding out that Arthur’s family’s economical situation is only slightly better than his. He’s one of the theater club’s original five members, and the only boy among them besides Kurt. He also ends up in a wheelchair after getting involved in a car accident. In later seasons he becomes Leo’s stepbrother, and realizes he has feelings for Kurt.

Emily Barrett/Emilia Sánchez Sullivan. Like Arthur, Emily is initially seen by Cory and Shawn as nothing more than a teacher’s pet. She’s one of the only five students that originally joined John Adams High’s theater club. She’s been raised by her adoptive father, a lawyer who, as she grows up, realizes just adopted her so he can live vicariously through her his frustrated dreams of youth of becoming a Broadway star. In later seasons she discovers a passion for writing, and decides that she wants to become a stage director, playwright and lyricist instead of an actress. Emilia also has a tendency to, as she describes it, imagine people singing songs as if they’re in a musical, also the show would play it more as being ambiguous about if it’s just Emilia’s imagination, or something else.

Leo Dashwood. Emilia’s only friend at the start of the show. Tomboyish and a bit of a troublemaker, the two girls are at the beginning kind of a rival genderswapped duo to Cory and Shawn. Funnily enough, Cory’s first kiss would be with her instead of Topanga. By the mid-seasons her father dies, which deeply affects her. In later seasons she becomes romantically interested in Julie Anne.

Lily Ferguson. Initially introduced as the pretty popular girl at Cory’s class, partially thanks to her being the only girl in the new school year who got accepted as a cheerleader. By the mid-seasons, she would get kicked out of both the cheerleaders and her own home by her father because she got pregnant, with almost every one of her so-called friends turning their back on her, with Cory and her friends being among the few who do something to help her, with Lily even living at Shawn’s trailer until her mother takes her back after leaving her husband. In later seasons she becomes Kaede’s stepsister and André’s girlfriend.

Kaede Murata. A goth girl obsessed with scissors that Cory initially finds creepy. She’s also one of the theater club’s five original members. In the first season her best and only friend Tara stops hanging out with her and rejects everything they had in common to be with a boy named Paxton Park, making Kaede incredibly reluctant about making new friends, although ironically enough the first friends she makes after it are Arthur, with whom she initially teamed up to sabotage Tara and Paxton’s relationship, and Cat, who surprisingly didn’t find her off putting at all. Her friendship with Emilia, on the other hand, would be more of the vitriolic buddies kind. In later seasons her father marries Lily’s mother, therefore making the two girls stepsisters.

Mónica Jones. The youngest of a dentist’s four kids, Mónica dreams to become a pop star, but she lacks confidence and her father is not exactly supportive. She’s one of the five original members of John Adams High’s theater club, and Emilia actually thinks that her voice is better than hers. She’s also a yaoi fangirl who likes to write fanfiction and draw fan art of her favorite ships. Ironically, it is through her fanwork that she initially bonds with her love interest, Ethan. Her father disapproves of the relationship, although his reasoning is the fact that Ethan comes from a blue collar job family who has to live in the same trailer park as Shawn’s after Ethan’s father lost his job.

Cat Calvino. A classmate that Cory initially finds irrtating because of her quirky behavior. One of the three original members of the audiovisuals club, being passionate about make-up effects and costume design, and the only girl there. To everyone’s surprise, when she joins the theater club it turns out that she has an amazing singing voice, but she hates singing in public or to people she’s not close enough to. After she finds out that guys find her “hot enough to hook up with, but way too weird to have for a girlfriend”, she decides to stop dating all together until she finds a guy who would want to be her boyfriend because of the way she is. Because of her troubled homelife, in the later seasons she moves to live with her grandmother.

André Diop. The seemingly more normal of the audiovisuals club’s three original members, he’s a talented musician and singer with encyclopedic knowledge of anything related to music, but a terrible dancer. In later seasons he becomes Lily’s boyfriend after a misunderstanding which made Lily believe that the one he liked was Kaede.

Robbie Vergara. A boy that stands out because he uses a puppet he made himself to talk to others. When Cory joins the audiovisuals club, where Robbie is one of the only three members, he discovers that Robbie can talk to others without using a puppet, but only if he trusts that person enough, and even then he stutters. Despite his issues with communicating with others, he’s a nice singer and guitar player. He also has a crush with Cat, and in later seasons he becomes more open about the fact that he’s trans, partially thanks to Julie Anne's help.

Santiago ‘Santi’ López Mejía. A boy from the basketball team, he tends to act like your typical douchey jock and like he’s an irresistible ladies’ man, hitting on Topanga multiple times. He’s actually gay and in love with his childhood best friend, Brandon, although he’s afraid to admit it.

Brandon Pitrè. Santiago’s best friend since they were kids, he’s on the school’s water polo team. He seems to have a hyperfixation with everything related to water and the sea, from swimming to marine biology. Contrasting with Santiago, he has a sweet, quirky personality, and he has no problem whatsoever befriending Julie Anne or Cat. To Santiago’s relief, it turns out that his feelings for him are reciprocated.

Julie Anne Vaughan. An old childhood friend of Cory and Shawn who moved out of town before the first season’s events take place. When she returns by mid-season, now presenting as female, Cory develops a crush on her, although the feelings are not reciprocated, with Julie Anne being interested in Leo instead. She also quickly befriends Cat, thanks to their similarly quirky personalities, and Robbie, who’s trans too.

Isra Beckett. A new student that transfers to John Adams High when Cory is in eighth grade because his adoptive parents moved from Canada to Philadelphia. Because of his good looks, he quickly becomes incredibly popular among the girls at school, although to everyone’s surprise the girl he’s interested in turns out to be Kaede of all people. Shawn and him become close friends as Shawn gets to know him and finds out that, like him, Isra has also dealt with abandonment and poverty before he moved to the States, being abandoned by his father when he was just five years old and living in an orphanage for four years. Ethan Evans. A boy from Missouri who transfers to John Adams High in Cory’s freshman year. He joins the basketball team and quickly becomes the star player. Despite his popularity, he turns out to be an actual, genuinely nice guy, although initially Cory and his friends suspect that his kindness could be just an act. He’s also bisexual and a fan of Mónica’s fanworks, becoming her boyfriend later on. At some point after his introduction his family has to move to live in the same trailer park as Shawn because his father lost his job and they can no longer afford to live in the rental apartment they used to.

Background: Born and raised in a small town in Pennsylvania, Wyatt has always been a sturdy working hand and a good help for his father when they would do woodwork. Right before starting middle school, Wyatt's parents moved the family to Lima, Ohio, where they were meant to have a fresh start with his parents taking on new jobs and working towards providing a good future for their son. Wyatt makes fast but frenzied friends with Sabine Mitchell. The two hang out on and off in the woods and it is through Sabine, that Wyatt meets one Kurt Hummel. Wyatt knows exactly who he is, but he also knows where he lives and who he goes to school with. So instead of facing the music, he hides behind hookups and dumb dares at parties. It isn't until Sabine distances herself from him during her time with the Cheerios that Wyatt realizes that without her, he doesn't have any real friends. When one of his hookups leads to an accidental pregnancy, Wyatt is thrown into a situation he never saw himself getting into. Suddenly, he has to learn to slow down and focus on his original goals with the added bonus of a baby on his hip.

you can do your weird sportsguy examples and i can do my weird sketch comedy examples (tim and eric and 2000s-early 2010s snl) but YESSS YOU GET IT its literally so fun just people getting to be silly :-) fundamentally we must always let people get silly with their friends . it is so important ....

REAL. okay more sportsguy examples Actually when footy players are playing you can tell when they get along with one another and its very very sweet. we used to have these two players treloar and dunkley who were best mates n they'd always kick to eachother and take photos with fans together n it was sooo lovely until dunkley left us for brissie (TRAITOR) but now we've got cody weightman (my fave) and arty jones who are roommates n they've got a similar sort of vibe n they're so young n energetic its just so sweet seeing them play n celebrate together. also sometimes when players who were on the same team once or trained together or are related when they have to play against one another they'll usually say hi after the game n it'll be quite sweet. i was joking about only having sportsguy examples originally but here we are sorry LOL BUT UR SOOO RIGHT if everyone was just a bit more silly with their friends the world would have so much more peace I think. utopia...

Milano, museo del Novecento: da domani la mostra “Fluxus, arte per tutti”. Dal 25 novembre al 16 aprile 2023 il Museo del Novecento presenta “Fluxus, arte per tutti. Edizioni italiane dalla collezione Luigi Bonotto” a cura di Patrizio Peterlini e Martina Corgnati. La mostra, in programma nello spazio degli Archivi, analizza per la prima volta tramite pubblicazioni, opere e documenti il ruolo chiave dell’Italia nell’ambito di Fluxus, a sessant’anni dal Festival “FLuXuS Internationale FesTsPiELe NEUEsTER MUSiK” di Wiesbaden del settembre 1962. Nato tra la fine degli anni Cinquanta e l’inizio degli anni Sessanta grazie all’artista, architetto e organizzatore culturale George Maciunas, Fluxus si sviluppa soprattutto negli Stati Uniti, in Europa e in Giappone, ed è al centro di una rivoluzione estetica e sociale che mira a intrecciare arti visive e performative, musica sperimentale e teatro dando anche vita a festival, happening e concerti con la volontà di eliminare la divisione nelle arti e, in generale, quella tra esistenza e creazione artistica. Anche l’Italia partecipa in misura importante alla diffusione di Fluxus, in particolare con significative esperienze nella produzione di “edizioni”: oggetti, cartelle di grafica, libri d’artista in diversi esemplari. Queste opere sono realizzate da mecenati e operatori culturali insieme ai protagonisti del movimento, come Eric Andersen, Joseph Beuys, George Brecht, Giuseppe Chiari, Philip Corner, Geoffrey Hendricks, Allan Kaprow, George Maciunas, Nam June Paik, Ben Patterson, Dieter Roth, Wolf Vostell, Bob Watts e molti altri. La realizzazione di edizioni gioca un ruolo essenziale nella diffusione sistematica del movimento, una scelta strategica che identifica come punti di forza i bassi costi di produzione, la facilità di distribuzione (anche per posta) e l’accessibilità al grande pubblico grazie ai prezzi economici. Caratteristiche che rispondono in pieno all’idea di democratizzazione dell’arte perseguita da Fluxus. È infatti nel secondo manifesto del 1963 che Maciunas parla di una Revolutionary Flood che renda l’arte accessibile e comprensibile a tutti, con un attacco diretto e senza mediazioni al sistema del mercato. L’idea dell’inondazione s’incarna nelle piccole edizioni che caratterizzano la produzione Fluxus: una miriade di piccoli oggetti che, come l’acqua, possono arrivare ovunque portando con sé la nuova visione estetica del mondo. I multipli e le numerose edizioni in mostra, provenienti dalla Collezione Luigi Bonotto, esplorano e approfondiscono il radicale cambiamento che la diffusione delle edizioni apporta nella fruizione dell’opera d’arte nel mondo Fluxus e dei suoi estimatori. Da oggetto d’élite, destinato a pochi fruitori di una ristretta cerchia di facoltosi intenditori, l’opera diviene un oggetto cheap, accessibile e acquistabile da chiunque, spesso corredata di un “manuale di istruzioni” per un’azione da compiere a casa propria. Questo ulteriore passo verso la de-costruzione del mondo dell’arte ha avuto e continua ad avere ripercussioni ancora difficilmente indagabili. Di fatto, non solo qualsiasi oggetto può essere elevato ad arte, ma a operare questo passaggio può essere chiunque, senza necessariamente aver bisogno di un riconoscimento ufficiale. In mostra sono esposte edizioni di: Eric Andersen, Ay-O, Joseph Beuys, George Brecht, John Cage, Giuseppe Chiari, Philip Corner, Willem De Ridder, Jean Dupuy, Robert Filliou, Albert M. Storia Di Musica #184 - Eric Clapton - Just One Night, 1980

Due serate consecutive, il 3 e il 4 dicembre del 1979. Nello stupendo scenario del Nippon Budokan, il meraviglioso complesso costruito per le Olimpiadi del 1964 e diventato il regno delle arti marziali, anche nell’edizione di Tokyo 2020. Ma anche uno dei teatri più magici per i concerti, con decine di dischi registrati nella sala più grande del complesso, un gioiello di acustica da 14 mila posti. In quelle serate del dicembre 1979, uno dei miti del rock è in tour dopo l’uscita del suo ultimo disco, Backless, con una nuova formazione ad accompagnarlo. Quel mito è Eric Clapton. Quello è un periodo di ennesima rinascita per Slowhand (nomignolo che non ha nulla a che fare con la sua velocità di esecuzione delle note, che chiunque lo abbia mai sentito in uno dei suoi capolavori potrebbe capire al volo, ma per la maniacale cura con cui accordava le corde delle sue chitarre): dopo l’ennesimo periodo di dipendenza da alcool e droga, finalmente è disintossicato, sta bene fisicamente e ha un estro creativo niente male. Per il tour di Backless mette su una nuova formazione di accompagnamento che comprende Henry Spinetti alla batteria, Dave Markee al basso e due pezzi da novanta del rock blues: Chris Stainton alle tastiere, già con Joe Cocker nel mitico Mad Dogs & Englishmen (1970) e alla chitarra ritmica Albert Lee, uno dei più sublimi e talentuosi chitarristi del country blues a livello mondiale. La scaletta che sceglie Clapton per l’esigentissimo pubblico nipponico è molto particolare: pesca pezzi minori del suo repertorio, che raramente poi entreranno nei suoi live, e una selezione accurata e particolare dalla sua infinita cantina del blues, genere che il grande Eric conosce come pochi altri. Il disco è composto da 2 Lp per un totale di 14 canzoni. Clapton suona in maniera perfetta e rilassata, accompagnata dai suoi fidati compagni, trovando in Lee la perfetta spalla per meravigliosi duelli di assoli dove i due si scambiano i ruoli tra ritmica e solista per la gioia dei fan. Si inizia con Tulsa Time, scritta per Clapton da Danny Flowers, che passa il testimone a Early In The Morning, uno dei più famosi traditional blues, reinterpretato in maniera meravigliosa da Slowhand e compari. Il lato A del primo Lp si chiude con due autografi tra i più famosi di Clapton: Lay Down Sally, scritta con Marcy Levy e George Terry, che facevano parte della precedente band di Clapton, e la toccante Wonderful Tonight, qui in una delle sue versioni più scintillanti e riuscite. Il lato B si apre con una canzone minore di Dylan, If I Don't Be There by Morning, un altro classico del blues, Worried Life Blues di Big Maceo Merriweather, qui in una sontuosa versione da 8 minuti, e due pezzi molto cari a Clapton, uno è All Our Past Times scritto con Rick Danko della The Band e poi After Midnight di J.J. Cale, già nel primo disco solista, Clapton (del 1970) e divenuta un classico dei suoi concerti. Il secondo Disco riprende la stessa organizzazione dei pezzi con prevalenza di cover: di Clapton c’è solo Blues Power, scritta con Leon Russell (sempre dal debutto solita del 1970) e poi meravigliose scelte, come Double Trouble di Otis Rush, Setting Me Up di Mark Knopfler cantata da Albert Lee, una fantastica Rambling On My Mind/Have You Ever Loved A Woman del suo maestro spirituale Robert Johnson e di Billy Myles per poi finire con due gioielli: una stupenda Cocaine, sempre di J.J Cale, uno dei pezzi clou del suo repertorio e una finale e coinvolgente Further On Up The Road, uno dei pezzi che segneranno la transizione tra il blues classico e il rock blues che tanto farà innamorare Clapton. Il disco sarà un successo di vendite e di critica e ancora oggi è considerato tra i migliori live del grande chitarrista britannico. E non posso non dedicare qualche parola sulla copertina: all’interno del disco c’era un poster disegno di un famoso artista giapponese, Ken Konno, mentre in copertina una bellissima fotografia ritrae Clapton con una Stratocaster nera, che non è una chitarra qualsiasi, ma la mitica Blackie: è la chitarra con cui ha scritto alcuni tra i suoi più grandi brani, tra cui la mitica Layla. Fu il frutto di vari pezzi presi da altre chitarre, comprate in stock a Nashville da Clapton durante un tour ad inizio del 1970. Alcune di quelle chitarre le regalò ai suoi amici George Harrison e Pete Townsend, e con i pezzi di due Strat del 1956 e del  1957 che scelse ne assemblò un modello unico, con l’aiuto del famoso liutaio Ted Newman Jones. Blackie verrà poi battuta all’asta nel 2004, per una delle Fondazioni supportate da Clapton per il recupero dei giovani da droghe e alcool, per la cifra record di 1 milione di dollari, divenendo all’epoca la chitarra più costosa del mondo. Ennesimo simbolo di uno degli artisti più iconici di tutti i tempi.

And this year’s camping trip has been solidified! This year, July 1st - 6th, Lima Heights students will be taking a break from classes and activities to camp at Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. All students are required to attend as well as the Headmasters, faculty and guards will be attending as well. (Information is under the cut because it is long, but it’s all IC info unless specifically stated it’s OOC). 

RULES:

As with all trips, each participant is representing our school and should conduct themselves as such. There will be guards and staff on this trip and broken rules will be dealt with swiftly. They are as follows. 

No drug use of any kind will be tolerated. Additionally, underage drinking will not be tolerated.

Each student must be in their assigned campsites between 1am-6am. 

No one is to leave the campground without an escort - school escort rules apply (meaning 2+ doms can’t go alone and 2+ subs can’t go alone. Must be mix of marks. We are relaxing on the number of each who can go outside the campground together.)

All planned excursions are mandatory. 

ASSIGNMENTS

The following are the assignments per campsite. Each site is semi-secluded and can hold each of the 2-room tents (there are two tents per site) and 4 queen sized air mattresses being provided. Bathrooms are communal with showers and electricity. Each site has electric hook ups, fire pit, wood and pots/pans/utensils for cooking/eating, coolers, etc.

ACTIVITIES- 

The following activities are available at the camp ground (if you do these activities, you do not need an escort):

Water: swimming, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, waterskiing, wakboarding, tubing, 

Sports: volleyball, bicycling, yard games (horseshoes, bean bags, ladderball), hiking, running, horseback running, ATV riding.

The following are things to be done in nearby Jefferson City. Shuttles will run regularly all day for those who want to use free time in town. No one can go into town unaccompanied. Escorts must be utilized. The following are things available in town (OOC - also pretty much anything most towns have - we can fudge it if necessary):

Restaurants/cafe’s/coffee shops/bars/ds club/dance club

Specialty shops and souvenir stands

Museums: Lewis and Clark Monument, State Museum, Military Museum, Penitentiary Museum 

Spas/Nails/Hair Salons

ITINERARY - 

The following are the planned activities for the week. Any time not listed is free time at the campground. Reminder, all students must be in their assigned campsites between 1am-6am. 

WEDNESDAY JULY 1st

12pm - Arrive at the campground (via coach bus)

THURSDAY JULY 2nd

3pm-5pm - Rock Climbing/Rapelling

FRIDAY JULY 3rd

10am-12pm - Cave Tours (Onondaga Cave)

SATURDAY JULY 4th

5pm-12am - Fourth of July picnic, games, water ski show and fireworks

MONDAY JULY 6th

6pm - Return to OHIO (via coach bus)

POINTS - 

There is an option to get points! Find a partner and do a scene that involves fire/heat. This is an ability to get creative and receive 100 points!. Each student can only submit one scene for points, however, they can do more to help others. 

OOC - 

So, as always if you have plans for plots that break the rules or will affect a lot of people or are triggering - please get admin approval. In regards to the scene, it has to be fully written out (as always, set up and aftercare can be breezed through), but HCs won’t be accepted. Any questions, hit us up :)

Kensi had lived in LA for a long time, but she couldn’t ever remember being quite this hot. Sweat trickled down the back of her neck even in the air conditioned taco truck, making her grey t-shirt stick to her back. 

She could hear Deeks in her ear, chatting it up with whoever would stop long enough to listen. He was in full Artie get-up today, out on a street corner in the blazing sun as they waited for Davis Kelleher to leave his office building and head off to a clandestine meeting with some arms dealers. It had been several hours and at this point Kensi was becoming convinced their suspect had called everything off because of the heat. International terrorism could wait for a day without a high of one hundred and ten. 

“Does the air go any cooler?” Nell grumbled, fumbling around with the dashboard.

Sam and Callen were out of town for a training so she’d come along as backup for the day, leaving Beale solo in Ops, which he’d made clear he wasn’t a fan of. But Nell was thrilled to have a little freedom and she  and Kensi had spent the first few hours of their little stakeout enjoying one another’s company, talking about their respective partners, life, and the new Thai place that had opened up last week.

But things had gone a little quiet in the last thirty minutes as the heat continued to skyrocket and air quality warnings popped up all over their screens. 

“That’s as cool as it gets,” Kensi said, wiping her forehead. 

“Well that sucks.” Nell pushed back a strand of sweaty hair and stuck her face in front of the vent. “Good lord it’s hot.”

“Record high for LA in like a hundred years.” Kensi reached in the glove box for a fake take out menu and began fanning herself.

“I don’t know why I even showered this morning,” Nell said as she frowned at her damp blouse.

Kensi touched her comm. “Deeks how you doing out there?”

He turned toward the hidden camera on the truck and gave her a thumbs up. She felt bad. Artie’s getup wasn’t comfortable and he had to be absolutely dying in this heat. She watched as a homeless man Deeks had talked to earlier, she thought maybe his name was Nick, shuffled over and began talking with her partner.

Kensi checked her watch. “Eric any movement from the offices inside?”

“Negative,” Eric said. “He’s been in there all day.”

“I don’t know.” Kensi looked at Nell. “I think maybe we should call it for today. Try again tomorrow. Nobody’s going out in this heat if they can help it.”

She hated to leave an op unfinished but there was no point in sticking around if the meet had been cancelled. Nell nodded. “I’ll start packing it up.”

“Deeks did you hear that?” Kensi asked. “We’re heading out.”

She saw him nod and heard him continue his conversation with Nick, her heart melting just a little bit as he patiently listened to the other man’s advice, which was all a repeat of an hour earlier. Her husband was such a good man.

“Over on Hollywood, that bakery? They’ll give you free water for your dog,” Nick said.

“That’s good to know man, thanks,” Deeks told him.

“They don’t even mind. They just give it to you.”

“I appreciate it.”

“You ever been over there before?”

“No I haven’t but I’ll definitely…“ 

Kensi looked up at the screen when she heard Deeks trail off, eyes searching the area for any sign of a problem. “You okay?” Nick asked.

Deeks’ breathing was loud over the comms. “Yeah, I…I think…”

Kensi keyed her comm. “Deeks? You good?”

He put a hand to his head and collapsed to the ground. Kensi scrambled out of her seat. “Nell!”

Nell looked up at the screen. “Oh my god!”

Kensi jumped out of the van and ran across the street, dropping to her knees by her partner. “Deeks! Baby!” She cupped his face in her hands. “Hey, wake up!”

“Kens what do you need?” Nell asked.

“Call 911. And then get anything cold we’ve got in the van. I think it’s heatstroke.” She started pulling off bits of Artie garb in an attempt to cool Deeks off. His skin was extremely hot and dry, and when she reached for his wrist she found his pulse extremely fast. 

“Here.”

She looked up to see Nick holding out a bottle of water. “You gotta cool him down.”

“Thank you,” Kensi said gratefully. She cracked the seal and gently poured it onto Deeks’ face and neck as Nell returned with a few more semi-cool bottles. “This is all we’ve got,” she said. “Paramedics are on their way.”

“Okay good.”

Deeks’ eyes fluttered and Kensi put a hand on his shoulder to keep him still. “Hey, you’re okay,” she said.

He blinked several times, trying to focus. “What…?”

“You passed out,” Kensi said. “Just stay still all right? Help is coming.”

“‘mokay,” he said, struggling to sit up.

“No, no, no,” she put a hand on his face as Nell moved closer to help her keep him down. “No you’re not. Just breathe. Nell hand me those bottles.”

She tucked one underneath each of his armpits and cracked open a third. “Try and drink a little of this,” she directed, helping him hold up his head so he could take a few sips.

Sirens came screaming around the corner and Kensi winced internally. The chances they’d just blown this op were pretty high, but she couldn’t worry about that now. Deeks was her priority, always. 

He gradually seemed to come back to himself as the paramedics jumped out and began an IV, removing Kensi’s makeshift icepacks and adding their own. “I don’t know,” Deeks said several minutes later when he was finally more upright. “One minute I was up and then I was down.”

“Your heart rate and blood pressure are still really high so we’re going to take you in,” the medic told him.

“No, that’s, I don’t need—“

“He’ll go,” Kensi told the medic, giving her husband a warning glare. “I’m his wife, can I go with him?”

“Yeah you can ride up front.”

“I’ll go take care of things back…home,” Nell said.

Kensi nodded gratefully, getting to her feet as they got Deeks up and into the ambulance.

He threw up once during the drive, but by the time they reached the hospital he seemed almost back to normal, his face less red, his speech no longer slurred and confused. Kensi felt the hard ball of worry in her gut dissipate as he began to joke with the nurses and doctors, his Deeks charm alive and well.

“So did I blow the op?” he asked when they finally had a second alone together.

“That doesn’t matter,” Kensi said. “What matters is you being all right. Why didn’t you say anything? We could have pulled you out.”

“I didn’t realize how bad it was. I was just talking to Nick and everything went dark and then I saw your beautiful face looking down at me.” He looked at her with wide, sappy eyes.

“Do not try and charm your way out of this Martin Deeks,” she said. “I am not happy with you right now.”

“C’mon babe! It’s not a big deal.”

“Oh it’s not? How about I call your mother and tell her why you aren’t coming into the bar tonight? Do you think she’ll agree it’s not a big deal?”

“Kensi no,” he said in horror. “You cannot call my mom.”

She held up her phone threateningly. “Then behave and do what the doctors tell you to. Otherwise I leave Mama B is going to be over here before I even hang up the phone.”

“Okay, okay!” Deeks held up his hands in surrender.

“Thank you.” She put her phone away, then sighed, brushing away a stray curl from his forehead. “You really scared me babe.”

He caught her hand, locking his fingers with hers. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to.”

“I know. Just don’t do it again. Maybe we need to retire Artie. That outfit has way too many layers for this kind of heat.”

“Hey, don’t blame Artie for this! He’s just out there living his best life on the streets. He can’t help it that the heat index caused me to pass out.”

Kensi raised her eyebrows. “You know that Artie’s not real right? It’s just you in a disguise?”

“He’s a part of me Kensi,” Deeks said, a dramatically wounded expression on his face. “And he always will be.” She rolled her eyes and extricated her hand. “Yeah, you’re better now. I’m going to go check in with Nell.” 

“Our bond is special! You can’t take that away from us!” Deeks called as she left the room.

“My husband,” Kensi said to a surprised nurse who was walking by. “There’s no cure for him.”
