Its me again guys!

This one is special to me because it was commissioned by Bernie's VA Erica Mendez. Which changed my life and professional career for the better. <3

I've always related to Bernadetta because of my anxiety and ocd, and it was honestly very refreshing to come across a character that in many ways was like me ( especially when I was younger)

I could go on for forever, and I'm sure I will later. But for now, enjoy Bernie!

Fionna and Cake Theory

Potential spoilers below the cut

Dueling Skates Theory

It's a play on "Dueling Fates" because I'm clever ;)

So I was looking at the titles of the four remaining episodes: The Star, Jerry, Casper and Nova, and Cheers

Cheers - Easy enough, reference to Simon's favorite show, doubles as a greeting/celebration/goodbye term. Perfect for a finale! By the end, we'll have a new normal, everybody will know their names!

The Star - If it's a reference to previously known character, my guess would be Astrid, the Fionna and Cake fangirl.

Jerry - Shot in the dark here: Alternate version of Jermaine.

Now, for the good stuff, my actual theory is on who the titular Casper and Nova are! Drum roll, please! 🥁🥁🥁

That's right! The Skate Fairies, let's go!

I was trying to think if there had been any unnamed pairs who had the potential to be fleshed out. These two came to mind. Especially because these two characters were actually hyped up in promotional material before the show released!

I found this weird because in episode 2, Simon Petrikov, they don't actually speak. They babble for 2 seconds and throw leaves at Simon.

I just find this credit weird since in episode 1, Fionna Cambell, their derby girls counter parts aren't credited. They are just listed as "additional voices." Despite the fact that the Derby Girls have actual lines.

Originally, it seemed like their purpose was just to show the links between events happening to Simon and how they directly affect the Fiona and Cake world. Simon is annoyed by the two Skater Fairies, so Fionna gets interrupted by two Derby Girls.

But do you really get two award winning voice actors just for that? But it's not like they show up again. Oh wait!

Whose that on the right? A pair of thematically linked skaters voiced by, you guessed it:

At this point, this is how I am feeling:

The "Dueling Skates" theory

The Skater Fairies, the Derby Girls, and the Ice Scouts are all alerternate versions of each other

We will hear the Skater Fairies speak in a future episode

This is why the Fairies were credited but the Derby Girls weren't

They ARE Casper and Nova

In the penultimate episode they will have a bombshell reveal moment

They will be antagonists (separate from the Scarab) in that they will try to encourage Fionna and Cake to embrace violence to an unhealthy degree

This final point comes from the fact that the Derby Girls were praising Fionna for her "aggressive jerkiness," and the Ice Scouts encouraged Fionna and Cake to tear through the corrupted candy people in The Winter King.

One thing to note, combing through the episode, Destiny, I didn't see any obvious farmworld counterparts there (but there were lots of background characters with tires), and I didn't see any counterparts in baby world, but there might be some in episode 7.

Anyway, that's the theory. I hope you liked reading it, even if you think I'm completely off base with this one!

What can I say? Tangle & Whisper's mini-series had me by the balls. Can't wait to dive into the Metal Virus. In any case, here's a voice cast I've had in mind when reading the comic original characters:

"Christine Marie Cabanos as Tangle The Lemur" - Many fan casters tend to focus on Tangle as a sporty tomboy and think of a raspy voice not unlike Rainbow Dash or Amethyst. This isn't bad but I found myself thinking outside the box when I was revisiting Kill La Kill and its bombass dub at the time. Christine's Mako Makanshoku had just the kind of energy and cocksure that Tangle would have as a rookie to the Resistance.

Mind you, she would even out the pitch to sound closer to a young adult/older teen that the characters tend to (mostly) come across as but no less hyperactive like Mako when the moment calls for it. Additionally, Christine could dip more into her Madoka Kaname performance to capture her more emotional side, particularly when Whisper lets her in on what happened to the Diamond Cutters. It would make for a great range that toes the line just like Tangle has in terms of being somewhat obnoxious but not in a "Scrappy Doo" kind of way.

"Erica Mendez as Whisper The Wolf" - Erica would play her not too unlike her soft-spoken Retsuko (barring Heavy Metal scenes played by an actual Heavy Metal singer) but in a consistently hushed tone. However, moments where she's emotionally devastated like fearing losing Tangle or... losing Tangle would be where her performances as Atsuko Kagari from Little Witch Academia and Gon from Hunter X Hunter come in.

"Todd Haberkorn as Dr. Starline The Platypus" - Todd's performance as Death The Kid shows a very balanced performance between his more goofy side and serious, grounded side, one that would apply well to the campy Dr. Starline. It would work well with his raising of Surge and Kit with his callous use of his Hypno Glove.

"Sarah Anne Williams as Surge The Tenrec" - Anybody who's heard her performance as Nonon Jakuzure and Tifa from FFVII Machinamabridged will know that Sarah can do punk. She just needs to ramp up the gruffness if only to see Surge as a homegrown teenage with major issues.

"Johnny Yong Bosch as Kitsunami The Fennec" - Johnny may be known for his Super Saiyans, bounty hunters on the run and Anime pretty boys but his performance as Doraemon's Nobita as well as Yokai Watch's Nate shows that he can do timid young boy. Kit being the Tails to Surge's Sonic makes it a perfect fit.

"Cherami Leigh Kuehn as Jewel The Beetle" - A similar beleagured tone of voice to Lucy Heartfilia but with an light English accent, a total contrast to Tangle's character. A way to mask it for future performances given Sonic's big cast.

I’m glad to meet Erica, who is the English voice actor for Yuuki Konno (Sword Art Online II). Yuuki has always been my most favorite SAO female character after she was introduced. Any thoughts on Erica Mendez? She played Bernadetta in 3H

I like Erica! For a little while when FEH was still new, sometimes I got her mixed up with Erica Lindbeck; the names were similar, lol. But I enjoy Erica’s role as Deirdre, and I definitely like her as Bernie.

Performance-wise, it’s undeniable that she brings a lot of energy (panicked, anxiety-ridden, manic energy) to her Bernie voice. It makes her lines really fun and it’ll REALLY shine when she finally gets in a Duo with someone and she gets to bounce that frantic energy off of someone else. But her Deirdre voice deserves recognition, too. Her Deirdre voice is very calm and soothing to listen too, and even though I haven’t played the Genealogy series, Deirdre is actually my favorite character so far. But the line I think REALLY highlights her role as Deirdre is in her base unit where you can hear the anger in her voice when she questions why she can’t remember anything. It really adds a facet to her character that you don’t normally see in these gentle types.

I think she was a perfect fit for these characters, and like I’ve mentioned a billion times before, I want to see the Genealogy remake so I can hear her Deirdre lines more in-depth. Range is a funny thing: She’s more changing the energy than the other qualities in her voice, but it makes it so unrecognizable between those two characters. But I think it’s still great range.

Erica Mendez gets a solid 9/10. It’s a good thing Deirdre and Bernie get a lot of alts, and here’s hoping we see another Deirdre alt soon.
