"One day, the Imperials started packing up and shipped out. So we made our move and escaped. We were the only ones who made it out before the orbital bombardment. Even the clone troopers left us to die. Said they were following orders."
this broke my heart.
and i think it needs to be discussed a lot more.
my first reaction is to say "no!! they would never do that!!! they would never leave behind their own little brothers!!! they are loyal! they have honour! they're good people!!"
but i think that's the point here. we're no longer seeing the clones we typically see from the Clone Wars show. we're no longer seeing our romanticized, rose-tinted-glasses version of them.
i feel like we're actually seeing them more closely to their original Legends version, where there was no inhibitor chip, where the clones really did obey orders without question and carried out Order 66 without a chip to force them into it, simply because it was a direct order from the highest authority.
and that's what we're seeing with these remaining Imperial clones. they are those types of clones. 95% of the "good" ones have been rooted out by now. what's left are the die-hards, the obeyers, the brainwashed, the ignorant pawns. they aren't concerned with saving lives or protecting people, not even their own kin. they're there to follow orders and serve their Empire.
it definitely hurts, but honestly, it's a bit refreshing, and yes it is realistic. i remember reading a post ages ago about an interesting hypocrisy within the fandom -- how we as fans hate seeing clones treated as less than human, how we want them to be treated "more human", BUT we also prefer them to be these good, heroic, noble characters. which is definitely not a human trait. humans are inherently both good and bad, and some are bad, and some are very very bad. so if we want our clones to have the full range of humanity, then some of them have to be bad people.
so really, especially at this point in the timeline, it is entirely realistic that these "bad" clones exist, that they are willingly choosing this path, and they are choosing to let people die, even their own, because of orders, or simply for their own survival.
personally, i'm glad the writers were brave enough to take this step. i honestly hope it doesn't end up as a "they're all still brainwashed" or "their chips are still active" explanations. we need some clones that want to be with the Empire. we need some clones to be villians.

Without hope, we have nothing.
(Spoilers and speculation included a bit further down)
This is actually a post about the Bad Batch and not Star Wars Rebels, but this bit is important so...
Try not to cry when you remember that Tech is the one who taught Hera Syndulla how to mask her ship's signature, a move that made her a massive threat to the Empire and a move that she often used to her advantage. She was such a threat to the Empire that they wanted to capture her alive so they could make an example of her for her years of defiance.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then also try not to cry when you remember that when Hera was taken prisoner by the Empire, Kanan Jarrus sacrificed his life to free her and save the future of the Rebellion. Try not to cry when you think about the fact that Kanan Jarrus aka Caleb Dume was the Jedi padawan the Bad Batch protected (except for Crosshair) from the Empire during Order 66 by claiming Hunter killed him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hunter, Tech, Wrecker and Echo lied to the Empire to protect a Jedi.
And Tech taught Hera how to evade the Empire when the Bad Batch helped her family (Chopper included) escape Ryloth after being accused of treason.
Clone Force 99's actions had a direct outcome on the success of the Rebellion. They refused to commit treason against the Republic and all they did was commit treason against the Empire. They were strong enough to resist the effects of the inhibitor chip (Crosshair and Wrecker for awhile), outright ignored Order 66 (Hunter and Tech), or were tortured and turned partially into a machine against his will by the Techno Union and used as a weapon against the Republic who, upon rescue, immediately jumped back into Separatist territory and fucked their asses up (Echo). Luckily, with the help of Rex, they got their chips removed after Wrecker tried to kill all of them.
Everything under the cut is pure speculation. I'm having a galaxy brain moment, I just have no idea if it's pointing me in the right direction or not lol.
If you disagree with me, I don't need you to rudely tell me why.
After his time on Tantiss, Crosshair can now identify with Echo more than anyone else in the Bad Batch (and Tech if CX-2 is Tech).
When they went to rescue Echo, Crosshair is the one who snidely told Captain Rex that he would have left Echo behind too.
Which is exactly what happened to Crosshair when the Empire turned him into a weapon against his own brothers. He had no choice because the Empire attached him to a machine and amped up the effect of his inhibitor chip so he could not disobey orders.
Rex told Cody "I think Echo is still alive" and Cody told him that was impossible. Anakin accompanied him on this rescue mission with The Bad Batch (we know Cody would have too if he hadn't been injured).
I think that if Tech is CX-2, Crosshair already knows or highly suspects it. He's terrified of Tantiss. I think we're going to have a parallel moment of Crosshair possibly saying the same thing, knowing that he could never leave a brother behind again after what he went through, especially if CX-2 is Tech. (I also wouldn't be surprised if Omega suspected something after her trip back to Tantiss with CX-2.)
We never saw Echo's body after the explosion. Instead we got this image. An empty helmet and a droid arm.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Crosshair defected from the Empire when he witnessed the Empire tell him that Mayday was only a clone and not worth giving medical attention to. Those actions resulted in the death of Mayday and that's when Crosshair chose to shoot an Imperial officer between the eyes (similar to Dogma's execution of General Krell in many ways).
If Tech is CX-2, that is the second Bad Batcher the Empire has turned into an enemy against his brothers.
This is the last we saw of Tech.
Tumblr media
Hemlock was fucking lying when he said that Tech's glasses were all they recovered. Why the hell would he have found Tech's glasses and not Tech? All we see below him are clouds. And this is the last bit of Tech we see. That gun is in the shot with his glasses for a reason.
Tumblr media
I feel like this is going to parallel Echo's rescue from Skako Minor. Tech and Echo are both highly intelligent huge ass nerds (remember that the battle plans being used against the Republic were written by both Rex and Echo, and Cody acknowledged that Rex was one of their best strategists in the GAR) who always ended up working best together.
Part of me wonders if we are heading into a show centered on the clone troopers in a post Order 66 world going up against the Empire as they try to rescue more of their brothers. Enough to become a problem for the Empire.
Part of me also wonders if the inclusion of Force sensitive children in the Bad Batch means Rex will need to call Ahsoka into the fray. Wolffe has only appeared once so he hasn't even switched sides, let alone even started blocking Ahsoka's messages to Rex yet. During the Clone Wars she had to save Force sensitive children from Darth Sidious. During the Rebellion, the saved more Force sensitive children from Darth Sidious. It makes me wonder if she is also going to save Force sensitive children from this too? I might be reaching a bit too much here, but it could be a possibility! She seems to always show up when Force sensitive children need to be rescued from Darth Sidious.
No matter what ending we get for the Bad Batch, I know it's going to leave us with hope for the future because the message in Star Wars has always shown us that hope will always be stronger than fear.
A simple act of kindness can fill a galaxy with hope.
Without hope, we have nothing.
These episodes are all relevant to Echo's journey. The Domino Squad was referred to as a bad batch and Echo was the one who seemed to struggle the most with orders that conflicted with doing what needed to be done. He is the one who memorized the regulations manual after all. And now the Bad Batch are on a similar journey because they have never trusted regs before, but now it seems they might have to trust the regs to come to help them the way they helped Rex and Echo before the war ended. The way they helped Gregor after the war ended.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but that's a fanfic I can always write!! I don't want to get into who I think is going to die or survive, but I have my suspicions there too and I'm already in too much pain to keep going.

Sorry, Wrong Comms! Masterlist
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Season one Bad Batch AU fic; our favorite squadron of rouge Clones escapes the Empire (some more reluctantly than others) post Order 66 and do their best to make their way in a turbulent galaxy. When a medical emergency puts one of their own at risk, they're forced to seek out medical help, and end up forging a friendship in the woman who kindly helps them.
She may be a simple medic, but she's no stranger to the sick and injured of the galaxy, even when things get grisly once more for the Bad Batch...
Please mind the warnings for each chapter as there are things like vague medical terminology, near death(s), mild injury description + care, blood, drugs (both medical and **recreational references), use of restraints, needles (autoinjectors), nausea and non-descriptive mentions of vomit, language and minor adult themes throughout the series.

Responding to the Talk Shop Tuesdays post!
Leverage x Star Wars. Thoughts?
(I've had vague wonderings of leverage-style clone wars shenanigans but can't really get past "someone talks them into wrecking Palpatine's shit and they do" so I'm just throwing this into the air).
Alternatively, if you also have no thoughts there, favorite way you've written Palpatine accidentally shooting himself in the foot?
Oooh, Leverage and Start wars. I had not had that thought before…now I do. It’s legally required.
I know you said during the clone wars but post Order 66 immediately came to mind. Let's start with our cast.
Mastermind: Cody (initially this was going to be Obi Wan with Cody being the hitter, but bear with me I think this will be even better). Cody deserts the empire, a broken man, lost everything. He thinks everyone he ever loved is dead.  A few years after his desertion, he gets his chip removed through a series of unfortunate events (though he never actually finds out what it is or what it does). He is drifting through life, doing just enough work to get the money to keep drinking. An honest man. And a smart one.
Grifter: Obi Wan. After the Order goes out. After Anakin. After the birth of the twins, Obi Wan does spend a year or two on Tatooine. But Owen Lars makes a very specific good point, even a single slip up (and there are always slip ups), will bring the Empires attention to Tatooine (They believe Anakin is dead, so it is the Emperor’s attention that Obi Wan fears) and with that to Luke. It is better if Obi Wan is anywhere else. Owen is gracious in victory and agrees to updates up to four times a year.  So Obi Wan, Ben, loses himself. A new name every night, a new planet, a new voice.  The galaxy is a large place and Ben knows how to slip through and around the cracks.  Though no one has made the connection yet, a number Ben’s alias’s are wanted by the Empire, the Hutts, and the remaining Mandalorians (current total bounty’s, in credits, for all of his other aliases almost reaches the Empire’s bounty for Obi Wan Kenobi).
Hitter:  Boba Fett. Bounty Hunter. The only clone who wasn’t (who was a son). Often underestimated because of his youth. Alone by both circumstances and choice (even with Pond's death, Boba would be welcomed by most clones had he been willing to see them as sentient).  He is a teen when our team comes together and is still one of the most dangerous people in the galaxy. At first he barely considers any of these people sentient and is not sure why he is sticking around, but this is also the safest he has felt since his father had died.
Hacker: Echo. After Tech’s death Echo found that he could not stay with the Bad Batch.  The ghosts of everybody he had lost draped around him, weighing him down, leaving Echo feeling he could not go back to the Rebels or Rex either.  He skimmed enough credits from various Empire accounts that he was able to buy himself a ship, which he then modified. He decided he would find, no matter the firewalls, every scrap of video or information regarding his lost brothers (all of them). That they would not be forgotten. When he found information that was pertinent to the Rebels, or the Bad Batch  he would send it along, but he now worked alone.
Thief: Reva. After the purge Reva hid for hours under the bodies of her friends. Before it was dark enough that her movement would not immediately give her away. Then weeks creeping through the lower levels of the temple before she could find a way to escape (All the while the giggles of her friend echoed in her head- This part of the temple had always been off limits and they had all talked about being big and strong and facing what was waiting in the dark-Reva did not feel big and strong now, but there was nothing more in the dark she feared). She taught herself to step soundlessly, barely touching the ground. She taught herself how to make herself small, or just big enough (just enough to wedge herself into a small, high, space).  It is amazing what one can learn if survival is on the line. Those hours coveted in the blood of her friends, the Force echoing with the horror her family was experiencing, then the weeks in the dark tunnels changed Reva irrevocably. Before she can be found by the Empire, she is found by a Master thief who sees in her his chance to pass on his legacy (Reva is just the right kind of broken).
Now that we have our cast, let’s look at how they come together.
I love the Leverage Pilot, so let’s use that as a Framework.
Cody is drinking on Ord Mantell, approximately 14 BBY or 985 AAR,  when he is approached a Falleen Noble, who wants to hire him to run a job (though I do not know what the Falleen noble would say, I do imagine Cody saying Nate’s line “You know that part of the conversation where I punch you in the neck nine or ten times? We’re coming up on that pretty quick”). The Noble has hired Boba, Echo, and Reva as the rest of the crew.  The job is to steal back some plans (let's be honest this job does not matter much).
The Job goes well, but when Echo mentions how well it went, he gets the brush off. Due to the fact that Cody still does not know about the chips, every other member of the crew has issues with clones. We speed run through the Falleen noble gathering them together for one last betrayal and an explosion.
They wake up in a med ward. All of their DNA is being run. This is bad news. Standard panel would show that Reva is Force Sensitive (though no one else in the room knows that). It would also mark the other three as clones (Even Boba). Though the Empire does not particularly care about employing Clones, they would still pay handsomely for escaped clones.
This is where we veer slightly.
Reva’s panic in the Force draws the attention of Obi Wan, calling himself Ben right now.  Enough time has passed (and enough has happened that all of their Force signatures had changed) that Ben only just recognizes Echo, and no one else.   For a single moment Ben hesitates, they are not his business (Ben also does not know why he was shot at) and are possibly his enemies.  But there was Echo, familiar if only just, and with him someone who was Force sensitive. A young force sensitive (in Ben’s mind anyone who is the right age that they could have been in the council room that day was someone to protect, because he failed those initiates).
Ben is very good at grifting, so is easily able to get the four out of there (They also do not recognize him) and get them to a safe house.  There are several moments of uncomfortable silence before Ben greets Echo with a teasing, “Hello There Echo” in his real accent and voice.
Cody is the one who frowns and peers at Ben (clean shaven), because it couldn’t be…
Echo asks who Ben is, Ben smiles sadly and says “I suppose it has been many years since Skako”
This told Echo next to nothing (he’s been back to Skako Minor a couple of times since the war) but Cody just straight up sits on the floor in shock (Trying to say general and Obi Wan and you’re alive all at once-it is a little unintelligible). When Ben looks directly at Cody for the first time (Ben can’t quite let himself focus on any of the clones, for fear of what he would see)  he realizes exactly who it is.
Ben, by sheer happenstance, manages to sit in a chair. This is followed by Echo needing to explain about the chips and order 66 (“There was what in my head!?!”/”You all had what in your heads?!?”).
I picture them absentmindedly destroying Falleen Noble, in a similar way to the show. They do it because he tried to kill them/did not pay them (Ben took that personally for all of them- Cody: He tried to kill us, that is a bit more important than not paying up Ben<waving a hand>:Trying to kill you is nothing, but not paying you is just rude.)
I picture that they decide they might as well stay together, and grow into a found family (with Codywan being the exhausted parents) traveling around to help people ala leverage. They cannot and do not start going after the empire immediately. None of them want to draw the attention of the Empire, but if some of their jobs do include liberating people and occasionally planets, well they just have to be careful to not bite off more than they can chew and not to leave any tracks. They also do stop at Tatooine every so often (It turns out Owen likes Ben an awful lot more when he is not camped out in their backyard) so Luke knows them.
I imagine that when Leia is kidnapped, a few years later, Bail is still able to reach Ben. The Leverage crew immediately go to save her. It is during this that it becomes known that Reva had been in the Temple, had been in the council room. This is very swiftly followed by the realization that Anakin Skywalker was Darth Vader (which none of the crew had known).
This…This is what circles them back around to take on the Empire (a cross between Leverage Season 3 and Leverage Season 4). They still work to help people, but it becomes more pointed. Throughout their new self appointed mission, Ben starts to train Reva, to help her overcome the trauma of the Purge.
As they are now acting more deliberately against the Empire they begin to come across more familiar faces. Rebels (including Rex, Wolffe, and Gregor). Bail reintroduces them to Fulcrum (Ahsoka has mixed feelings about Obi Wan in particular. He challenges the way she remembers Anakin with rosy glasses).
It certainly ends with Palpatine staring in abject shock as his empire burns around him.  Vader is being escorted to get correctly fitting prosthetics, from which he will go to prison. Bail ends up taking the Emperor position to start working on turning the Empire back to a Republic.
Our team keeps going on finding people who need…Leverage
My favorite way that Palpatine shot himself in the foot is in Read the Fine Print  where Palptines first domino was his last, because he did not pay attention to a sub clause in the treaty.
That was fun. Thank you @somestorythoughts

Wendingways' Star Wars fic recs
The vast majority of these are fix-its. Some are time travel/time loop. Most revolve around PT, TCW, and OT characters. A lot are also gen, as it turns out.
The order of the list has nothing to do with how much I enjoyed each fic, because I've enjoyed them all in different ways, for different reasons! Fics that seem to be really popular have been placed toward the bottom of each section, because I'm guessing they already appear on a lot of other rec lists. Aside from that, the order is pretty much random.
*Chapter and word counts may not be up to date. I try to go through once in a while to update the details for WIPS, but it's a lot to keep track of!
Complete multichapter fics
Finding Obi-Wan; T, 86.9k. Obi-Wan, having disappeared from the Jedi Temple, wakes up with no idea who he is or what the Force is and gets pulled into all manner of messes (yes, Hondo gets involved, of course he does), while Anakin refuses to believe he's dead and struggles to find him.
Blood and Copper Oxide; T, 36.3k. "Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader crash land on a planet that shouldn't have existed. Luke can't escape Vader and survive the planet at the same time. Darth Vader can't capture Luke and fight off the innumerable threats the planet sends his way. They might have to work together instead." Very cool story!
The Skywalker Secret; T, 39.8k. Anakin time travels back to the Clone Wars following Endor. The story is told mostly through the eyes of perplexed observers, and has an excellent ending; it's very satisfying and lovely!
Lunches at Anakin's; T, 93.1k. After Endor, thanks to the Force's meddling, Anakin finds himself alive but stuck on Tatooine, where he ends up reluctantly mentoring a Force-sensitive girl. (Technically complete, but part of a series which is not complete.)
(Tooka)Cat Scratch Fever; not rated, 17.7k. Luke adopts a tooka which turns out to be his father, under a curse by Sidious. (I would probably rate this one as T.)
In the Tall Grass; T, 18.5k. "After a failed order 66, in which many Jedi still died but the Sith were defeated, an exiled warrior and a boy wander a distant planet and attempt to get along." This one is so cool, it has such a fairytale feel to it! And there's a sequel!
Shadows of the Future; K+, 129.3k. Obi-Wan dies on Mustafar and is sent back to TPM, where he bonds with Anakin and begins to change the future for the better.
Gut Feeling; T, 7.5k. Amusing little multichapter wherein Piett is assigned a new aide who goes by the name of Lucas Starkiller (who is clearly not Luke Skywalker, definitely not), and from there becomes embroiled in treason.
May Death Find You Alive; T, 11.0k. Anakin gets stuck in a time loop where Obi-Wan keeps dying.
Empire Reimagined; series, T, 341.7k. A saga of Luke, Vader/Anakin, Piett, Veers, and Leia covering from ESB-era to post-ROTJ. Epic friendships abound! (Series not marked complete, but the last completed fic doesn't leave you hanging.)
Mirjahaal; T, 132.8k. Another lovely Wishful fic in the spirit of Empire Reimagined, involving favorite characters and somebody else who's a surprise!
The Exiled; T, 20.1k. "Leia has tried everything to help her baby son. She has turned to every expert on the Force she knows-- all but one. (Ben and Grandpa go camping)" (Visible to registered AO3 users only.)
Cloudy Symbols of High Romance; G, 22.1k. This one's a bit of a relict! Posted pre-AOTC, way back in 2001, it's a cool take on how Anakin and Padmé's AOTC-era reunion happened, and omg, it's so much better than AOTC. It's actually cute, and you can see why they like each other, and man does it make the knowledge of what's coming so much the worse.
Kintsugi; T, 16.7k. Quietly tragic, even though nobody dies and it's broadly a fix-it. Not a comfy fic, but one which is well done.
What Lurks in the Dark; T, 155.4k. "A simple mission to check out an abandoned weapons factory turns into a dangerous fight for survival. Trust is broken, loyalties will be tested, and dark secrets are brought to light. Because sooner or later, the truth always comes out."
The Beauty in the Beast; T, 46.1k. "When the Force decides it's had enough of Darth Vader and wants Anakin Skywalker back, it dumps his long-lost teenage son on his doorstep with an ultimatum: unless Vader renounces the Sith and turns back to the Light within three months, Luke will die."
Sibling Revelry; T, 24.9k. "After Bespin and before Endor, Darth Vader is shocked to discover that Luke and Leia are twins. Especially since Imperial Intelligence just told him that Organa and Skywalker are, erm, a tad closer than previously suspected..." A hilarious comedy of misunderstandings!
The Sith Who Brought Life Day; G, 13.3k. A rather entertaining take on how Vader found out who blew up the Death Star.
This Life of Ours; T, 53.9k. "On the run from the empire and the remaining Jedi alike, Vader must come to terms with his past and his future, all the while learning to care for the boy that is his only connection to his life as Anakin Skywalker." (Visible to registered AO3 users only.)
Teach the Padawan. Save the Galaxy.; series, T, 387.4k. 4 books complete, but the series itself is not complete. Ben Kenobi goes back in time and becomes Obi-Wan's master instead of Qui-Gon.
Legacy; G, 175.5k. Post-ROTJ Luke and Leia time travel to the Clone Wars.
there but for the grace of god; T, 49.2k. Young Luke winds up time traveling to the Clone Wars, where he causes both confusion and conversations that will lead to a brighter future for the TCW crew and the galaxy in general.
Precipice; M, 231.7k. "An AU in which Anakin Skywalker does not follow Mace Windu and the others to Palpatine’s office after they leave to arrest the Chancellor. As a result, he doesn’t get that final push over the edge, and doesn’t Fall." Padmé and Anakin each raise a twin and work to bring Palpatine down.
Don't Look Back; M, series, 533.7k. 2 books complete, 1 in progress. Leia gets sent back to AOTC-era, and omg is she a force to be reckoned with! Very detailed, very political series.
Oneshots
Negative Static Stability; G, 8.1k. Vader and Leia meet when Leia is 5; lessons on the workings of ships ensue, along with some good old Artoo scheming. Adorable!
Palpatine's Greatest Hits II: Imperial Boogaloo; T, 1.3k. Just Palpatine being salty. It's very fun! "Fortress Dramaticus" has got to be one of my favorite bits, coupled with Palpatine's ongoing disgust at its lack of shields and certain people's inability to learn certain lessons. And his disgust at Vader's Kenobi obsession. Okay, the whole thing is great. Go read it!
Dust to Dust; T, 4.7k. "Darth Vader goes back in time. The Galaxy is saved; he is not."
Puppet Kings; series, T-M, 18.8k. Really nicely done, dark oneshot trilogy (complete) about Luke, Vader, & Co. I'm not usually one for horror and tragedy, but I read the first fic in the series and didn't want to stop!
Amelioration; T, 8.2k. "A recently liberated Vader attempts to ameliorate the future by changing the past." A different sort of angle, and an interesting fic!
The Horrendous Space Kablooie; T, 6.2k. "9 year old Anakin wakes up on the Executor. Chaos ensues." Well worth reading! Can't say more because I don't want to spoil anything.
The Agony of Tarkin; G, 4.8k. "An extra in the Imperial Opera Company discovers he has been assigned the role of Darth Vader in its upcoming production of The Agony of Tarkin." Another hilarious fic in the vein of The Sith Who Brought Life Day and Accountant Non-Heroes of the Republic.
Accountant Non-Heroes of the Republic; G, 7.0k. "Palpatine makes a choice to hide his fiscal manoeuvres in the Financial Department. The Financial Department takes advantage of this lack of transparency to do whatever they want. This saved the Republic." It's always fun to watch Palpatine shoot himself in the foot, and all the better when it comes completely out of left field.
Out of Step; T, 4.9k. Nice little oneshot with post OT-era Obi-Wan and Anakin stuck into their TPM-era selves.
FIVE HUNDRED AND ONE THING THE MEMBERS OF THE 501ST LEGION OF THE GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO; T, 4.9k. A hilarious list composed by General Kenobi. I laugh myself silly every time I read this. (Visible to registered AO3 users only.)
501 MORE THINGS THE 501ST ARE NOT ALLOWED TO DO; T, 3.4k. A sequel to the 501st list fic, also very funny, although it only has about 250 entries, not 501. (Visible to registered AO3 users only.) Listed with oneshots because the extant 250 entries can be read as a complete list.
Where Have We Come?; T, 2.0k. "The first time was one of the hardest and the easiest. Obi-Wan loses at Mustafar, but instead of dying he wakes up at the dawn of the last day of the republic, doomed to repeat the worst day of his life, over and over again." Time loop!
you drew stars around my scars (but now i'm bleeding); not rated, 1.1k. Post-Twilight of the Apprentice, Ahsoka and Anakin. I'd rate G or T. (Visible to registered AO3 users only.)
still dancing with your ghosts (sleeping with your memories); M, 1.1k. "Everyone knows about the Massacre, and how no Jedi made it out alive. The Jedi refuse to let anyone forget." I do not cry easily at fics. This one made me cry.
The Trick is to Keep Breathing; T, 3.5k. "She's older now, and so is he. Far older now. She wonders: will he have lost any power with his age? Will he be shorter, weaker? An old man on a ventilator? It's hard to imagine that he won't still be dangerous. But then, that's exactly what she's counting on."
Tuning up your TIE-Fighter to prove you’re better than the bastard currently running the TIE-Fighter Program for fun and profit; G, 7.1K. "As a rule, Vader didn't really do anything with his social media account, but then the rant of some kid from Tatooine about the inefficiency of TIE Fighters began trending, the pilots and engineers on the Devastator started fixing their ships and Vader got invested."
Multichapter fics that are incomplete but still appear to be alive as of now
Turning Point; T, 9.8k. After Vader dies on the second Death Star, he's sent back in time to the year 69 BBY, on Naboo, where he picks up an unfortunate barnacle in the person of the teenage Sheev Palpatine. Quite entertaining, and I can't wait to see where it goes!
The Good He Seeks; T, 70.1k. "After killing the Emperor, Darth Vader agreed to serve the fledgling New Republic and destroy the last true-believers of the Empire he had once helped create. But he's living on borrowed time." Though I do enjoy pure fix-its, there's just something that really gets me about fics that are fix-it-ish, but life is messy, the characters are messy, there are no easy answers or perfect solutions, and every positive development really feels earned. So far, this is one of those fics, and I'm loving it!
The Galaxy Revolves at a Million Miles a Day (Around Me); T, 40.7k. After dying on Executor during the battle of Endor, Piett finds himself trapped in a time loop which he must break. I'm a sucker for time loops, and this is such a good one!
The Sleepover to Restore the Republic; T, 56.1k. This many Skywalkers, clones, and associated friends, relatives, and coworkers were never intended to be thrown together, and when they are, boy oh boy. Gloriously chaotic and funny. (Visible to registered AO3 users only.)
Nameless, on the Edge of Nowhere; M, 100.7k. Vader survives ROTJ, but both he and Luke made it out of the second Death Star via random hyperspace jumps in separate ships. After getting by for a time, the not-fully-Sith-but-not-fully-redeemed Vader ends up with the Rebellion, where Leia becomes his handler. Slow build, and a really rewarding read thus far! (Also, I love the OCs in this one; they all feel very natural and vivid, and like people in their own right.)
Multichapter fics/series for those okay with living on the edge (inconsistent updates, long hiatus, or abandoned)
Headaches; T, 31.2K. "When Luke overhears his aunt and uncle arguing, he follows old Ben to Daiyu. Skywalker shenanigans ensues." Oh my goodness, the pure child chaos that is in this fic, it's an excellent time. Hasn't updated in almost a year, but what's there is so good!
Balance on the knife edge; T, 136.6k. After dying on Malachor, Ahsoka time travels back to Mortis, during the Clone Wars.
The Thunder Answered Back; M, 13.1k. "Count Dooku survives his duel with Anakin Skywalker only to wake up as a captive in the Jedi Temple on the evening of Order 66 and the siege. Betrayed, maimed, and surrounded by slaughter on every side, he must choose his path forward - and choose it quickly. RotS AU." Featuring Jocasta Nu.
Synchronous; G, 67.9k. "It's the usual time-entangling fiasco: 'Find the disturbance. Rectify the wrong. Fix the anomaly. Bring balance to the past so the Force may be balanced in the future.' There is a slight miscalculation, however, and Luke Skywalker finds himself in the Clone Wars while having to masquerade in the body of his late father Anakin Skywalker. Leia and Han aren't so helpful either."
In the Midst of Darkness Lays a Sleeping Light; T, 26.0k. Series, wherein Palpatine turns Vader into a dragon. (It goes great for both of them. Totally.) Angsty and enjoyable, and an interesting exploration of dehumanization/rehumanization.
To Set Up a Sith; T, 35.2k. "Teenage Luke tries to help his unwitting Sith father make a friend, with a little help from his ghost mom and the Force." Interesting story with fun and sweet bits, and I'm super curious about how it will turn out if it's ever finished!
like a lazy ocean hugs the shore; T, 10.7k. After Vader kills him, Fox gets stuck in a time loop around the time when Fives is killed.
Living Every Day; T, 82.9k. "When Satine Kryze survives her encounter with Darth Maul, it changes the galaxy. But even more than that, it changes the lives of Obi-Wan Kenobi and the Skywalker family."
Dancing with Ghosts in Your Garden; T, 979.3k. Star Wars PT and TCW characters, but in a Hogwarts setting. It works surprisingly well! There's a little more teenage romance than is my personal preference, but it's a cool AU and quite long if you're looking for a fun, imaginative fic to absolutely bury yourself in for a while. (And it looks like Ahsoka might finally be entering during the next year of the fic!!)
What We've Become; T, 82.0K. "Darth Vader and Ahsoka’s fight on Malachor takes a different path, and Ahsoka actually is able to save her master. Or rather, she’s able to convince him to save himself. Diverges from canon in the last few minutes of Twilight of the Apprentice and goes increasingly AU from there."
better late than never; G, 41.4k. Ahsoka wins at Malachor, Vader redemption fic.
Madhouse Promenade; T, 13.0k. "In a bid to save his new apprentice's life, Darth Sidious siphoned the life force from Padmé Amidala, ultimately killing her. Ten years later, after finding out the truth, Darth Vader finds himself haunted by her ghost, and Padmé finds herself face-to-face with what her husband has become."
Hard Reset; T, 33.4k. "Anakin Skywalker wakes up to his worst nightmare, and he doesn't even know all of it yet." Aka Vader gets amnesia, and Anakin is confused about everything. (Visible to registered AO3 users only.)
The Ghosts on Coruscant; T, 143.6k. After surviving Mustafar and living as a rebel for eight years, Padmé is captured by the Empire, and Vader finds out.
Of Queens, Knights, and Pawns; T, 616.6k. ST-era Leia time travels back to ANH.
Old Man Luke; M, 109.4. ST-era Luke and Leia time travel to the Clone Wars.
Comics (all wips)
Dark Chasm; T, 21 chapters. "On Bespin, the truth is revealed, and Vader bids for Luke to join him. Luke looks down into the dark chasm and makes a choice."
Imperial Babysitters; T, 17 chapters. Cute comic/art series with Luke being raised by Vader, Piett, and Veers.
Our New Hope; T, 57 chapters. "After Ahsoka Tano discovers 12-year-old Luke Skywalker on Tatooine, she takes him under her wing and around the Galaxy. Meanwhile, Darth Vader has found Bail Organa's force-sensitive daughter and has started training her as a Junior Inquisitor. A chance encounter between the twins brings their worlds together."
The Tinies; G, 76 chapters. Cute comic with Vader and Padmé raising Luke and Leia.

Not sure if you answered this already but what’s your opinion about the chips in the clones? Lazy writing or missed potential about free will and self expression?
This is a little vague, so I'm going to try to answer this as best I can and then you can let me now how well I did. I'm assuming you're asking me about the general concept of the chips as an explanation for why the clones turned on the Jedi during Order 66 rather than how the chips as a plot device has been handled in a specific piece of media or just over the years in general.
The original concept for why the clones turned on the Jedi was that they were only semi sentient, from what I can tell. In AOTC, Obi-Wan is told that the clones have been genetically modified to "make them less independent than the original host. As a result they are totally obedient, taking any order without question." So they didn't exactly have free will and self expression prior to the chip being introduced at all. Cody seems friendly with Obi-Wan, he has his own specific armor design, and both he and Oddball earlier do have names that Obi-Wan calls them by, but the amount of actual free will and self expression they have is VERY limited. Cody's friendliness only extends until he's given an order to kill Obi-Wan and then it immediately goes away because he doesn't have enough independence to consider if it makes sense or if it's morally wrong. So I'm not sure I'd count this original canon implication about the clones as HAVING a lot of free will and self expression in the clones at all.
The alternative explanation for Order 66 that seems to have existed prior to TCW (and maybe even was the original plan for TCW before they came up with the chips) was that the clones DID have free will and self expression and that they hated the Jedi because they saw the Jedi as the people keeping them enslaved, so they turned on them in Order 66 willingly and the friendliness they showed to the Jedi was all an act. Personally, I don't think this makes a lot of sense for NUMEROUS reasons. One, it doesn't jive with the line from the Kaminoans about how they are less independent and totally obedient due to genetic modifications. Two, it doesn't make sense to me that they'd intentionally show Cody and Obi-Wan being quite friendly if we're supposed to understand that the clones hate the Jedi; it would've been just as easy to have Cody be more professional and Obi-Wan more distant when they interacted with each other. Three, it doesn't make any sense that the intended message would be that the Jedi had genuinely enslaved the clones given that the Jedi are very clearly represented as the good guys here; obviously Lucas created a somewhat morally sticky situation with the clones in general that doesn't really get explored, but that doesn't mean we are intended to see the Jedi as slave owners.
What you get from the introduction of the chips is sort-of a marriage of both concepts. The clones CAN'T resist the order when it comes in and it's something that IS built in genetically, but they also DO have self expression and free will outside of that one moment. Cody and Obi-Wan's friendliness towards each other is REAL and Cody only turns on Obi-Wan because he's mind controlled into it. This allows for the clones to have personalities that are explored a lot more in other media and to build up this extra tragedy in the relationship between the clones and the Jedi without turning the clones into flesh droids or the Jedi into villains. The introduction of the chip also allows for the clones to have a future afterwards, there's a narrative to be told with them post-Order 66 as the chips are either removed or stop working and they have to start realizing what they did and dealing with the implications of it all. We're seeing some of that happen in TBB with Rex and Echo spearheading this entire operation to try to help clones escape the Empire.
So overall I think that the chips being introduced allows for MORE free will and self expression in the clones than usual, it keeps the Jedi from being labeled slavers and villains, and it brings in a lot of extra complexity and nuance to the entire situation that I personally quite enjoy.

Clone Bang Sneak Peak
Hello all, this is Team 4 (@niobiumao3 and @flowerparrish) from Clone Bang 2023 with a sneak peak at our work which will be posted at the end of January 2024.
Begin Again
Rating: Teen/Gen (background relationships) No Archive Warnings Apply · Canon-Typical Violence Characters: CT-9904 | Crosshair, Mayday (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), Hunter (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), Tech (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), Omega (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), Wrecker (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), Phee Genoa Relationships: CT-9904 | Crosshair & Mayday (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), CT-9904 | Crosshair & Tech (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), CT-9904 | Crosshair & Hunter (Star Wars: The Bad Batch), background Phee Genoa/Clone Trooper Tech Word Count: 22.1k
Summary Mayday survives at the end of The Outpost. This has a lot of implications for Crosshair, chief among them: what exactly do they do now?
Flee from the Empire, obviously. And if Crosshair continues to not examine his internal turmoil over letting Mayday think Clone Force 99 are all dead when Crosshair knows all too well that they’re alive, that’s Crosshair’s business and no one else’s.
Until their paths cross and it’s everyone’s business, that is.
~*~
This fic’s core idea came from this post by @cloned-eyes, which posits what would have happened if Mayday had survived and he and Crosshair bailed together but don’t rejoin the Batch immediately. I took that and rolled with it.
Podfic by @flowerparrish|ao3 Writing by @niobiumao3|ao3
~*~
[Podfic sneak peak]
On a sigh, Mayday admitted, “Wrong. We’re deserters anyways, I guess I can just say that. And even if the order was to execute them…why…” He hesitated, struggling. “They lead us for years. Didn’t that mean anything?”
Those clones served alongside General Billaba for years. How could they turn on her like that?
Echo’s voice rang out in Crosshair’s mind. It had been like a warning bell to him back then; it was a relief to hear it now and know what it (hopefully) meant.
“No. Because of the chip.”
Mayday glanced up, eyes narrow. “What?”
“The inhibitor chip.” Crosshair tapped the spot on his head where the ion scarring remained. “Biotech implanted in us by the Kaminoans.”
Mayday went rigid. “Biotech.”
“It’s how they could ensure we’d follow any orders given.” Even horrific ones.
Mayday’s fingers tightened on his canteen, eyes scanning the floor in disbelief. “That—that can’t—” The denials were half-hearted at best, not even fully formed. Crosshair continued, undeterred.
“You said it yourself. Order 66 didn’t make sense. Why didn’t we arrest them? Why weren’t they put through due process?” Traitors don’t deserve due process, the chip would have assured him.
Mayday looked up at him, new understanding lighting his expression with horror. “You mean—you—”
Nausea threatened. Crosshair fought it down. “I tried to.”
“Tried.”
“He escaped.”

Summary: Cody still works for the Empire two years after Order 66 but one day he sees something from his watchtower he just can't believe. (This is just a little short reunion fic.)
Warnings: none? Canon-divergence and post Order 66 but that's it
I think I wrote this back in 2021 and already did upload it on ao3 but hey why not here too (you know, I finally sat down and got an account last month and I'm slowly getting comfy here)
Don't expect too much, especially when it comes to posting more... I'm working on other fanfics but keep getting sidetracked or start others...the usual.
Anyways, enjoy! (Feedback is appreciated)
Tumblr media
It has been two years since the rise of the Empire, exactly two years since Utapau. And Cody never quite understood why he stayed. Why he stayed with this new regime.
He followed orders.
He always did.
Maybe that's why he stayed.
There was nothing for him outside the Empire. Though, he heard some of his brothers had joined together, got others out and promised safety, Cody just couldn't see that for himself. The one person he would have returned to was gone.
There has always been blood on Cody's hands. First, that of his brothers. Cody led them into their death time and time again. Then, it was the blood of his general. Now, it's the blood of innocent.
He's so far gone from the clone he used to be and there is no way back.
He can't even try, stuck in a wasteland, an excuse of a planet under imperial control. There is nothing. Nobody.
So, Cody's initial reaction to double check the image currently being projected to him via holo is understandable.
It simply could not be.
The clone runs down the stairs of the watchtower he is stationed in, abandoning his post.
At foot of the tower he could now see the figure approaching without any gear and yanks off his bucket - probably the fastest he has ever done it - and yet he sill can't believe what he is seeing.
No matter if it was or simply his mind stabbing him in the back one final time. Seeing Obi-wan Kenobi is like seeing the sun again after a cold and terrifying night, seemingly endless and without escape.
A two year long night it has been.
His programming practically screams at Cody, telling him to do what apparently he didn't on Utapau, to follow through with the order like a good soldier and he would be lying if he said it wasn't hard, resisting the urge grab his blasters and start mindlessly shooting the jedi.
But this isn't just any jedi. This man, currently breaking into a sprint towards him, is the general.
It is his general.
Cody won't do the same mistake twice, he should have said kriff the programming back then, he definitely is saying it now. Over and over again in his mind while closing the distance between himself and the one he thought dead.
Cody blamed himself for everything that had happened daily, going numb and blank by the rotation till all that was left of the commander was the programming only.
Whatever Cody forcefully sacrificed that day on Utapau comes flooding back, for a second overwhelming the clone with regret, self-hatred and...love, adoration.
Slowing his steps Cody looks from his dark boots up to meet the jedi's face, unreadable. It makes him uncertain, scared to a degree.
"Cody...“, Obi-wan breathes out, standing so close, suddenly holding Cody's face in his callused, warm, living hands. Cody, in response, is quick to grab the jedi's wrists, he lingers but ultimately decides to pry them away - missing the warmth but believing it is better that way.
"I don't want to hurt you...general“, his voice is merely a whisper and the thought of actually hurting and loosing Obi-wan all over again breaks the clone.
Maybe Cody should have agreed to being send back into active duty, whatever that implied, then he would not have to deal with his own emotions, the raging fear of harming the only person he ever loved with such intensity.
Cody has committed atrocities yet Obi-wan, with his heart of pure gold, looks at him with a smile, his gorgeous eyes - tired, pleading - filled with nothing but fondness.
The jedi wiggles his hands free from Cody and moves to close the clone into a hug instead, one hand on his back the other gripping at the back of his head, sinking into Cody's dark curls.
Part of Cody still screams, part of Cody doesn't trust this to be real. Just another one of his nightmares for sure. He's gonna wake up in moment, alone.
But the moments pass and he's still here surrounded by warmth and the smell he has missed for so long. The smell of comfort. Of home.
"Darling“, he hugs the clone tighter and Cody finally regains control of his own limbs enough to cling to Obi-wan in return, “I have been searching for you for so long", Cody can hear the despair in Obi-wan's voice and once again curses himself for being the source of it, "hoping you were not under the countless who lost their life because, dear“, Obi-wan moves away a bit to really look at the clone, tears visible in both their eyes now, “I will not let them or yourself destroy you any further", funny how after everything the general still knew him so we'll.
"Cody...I found a place we can be safe, the two of us“.
And Cody, former commander of the 212th, battle hardened and bred to withstand almost everything, falls to his knees crying in front of the jedi, his jedi.
It feels good. He feels free.
Safe.
Yes, he will keep them safe.
Kriff the programming, it is long due time to make his own decisions.
"I would love to follow you there“.

Rebels Rewatch: “Spark of Rebellion”
With the Ahsoka show coming up here in August, I have just enough time for a full refresher so, you know, I Might As Well.
This is going to be different from my normal liveblogs, obviously, less real-time reactions and more commentary and meta analysis, though you’ll probably still get some incoherent nerdery and feelings spew here and there.
All right, let’s get into it.
You know with the benefit of hindsight, Vader’s speech to the Grand Inquisitor here is actually a perfect encapsulation and summary of the premise of the show.
“Hey so the Jedi are dead and the Empire reigns but the Emperor is still worried about threats to his rule, so your job is to hunt down and kill anyone a little bit too Force Sensitive and also anyone Order 66 managed to miss.”
It’s an interesting choice of phrase too.
“The Children of the Force”
Emphasizes the villainy of our bad guys in that they’re hunting down literal children and also seems to suggest some kind of protectiveness from the Force here; these are its children, people born into its “family”, so to speak.
Anyway.
OKAY WAIT NO I NEED TO STOP BECAUSE I STILL CAN’T GET OVER HOW THIS SCENE IS PARALLELED IN THE FINALE.
SHOT FOR SHOT.  SHOT.  FOR.  SHOT.
The show opens with the “boy who was lost” and closes with the “girl who was broken”, Sabine’s move into more narrative prominence S3 onward was not a writing mistake, it was purposeful, it was deliberate, the show is their coming-of-age arc, they are co-protagonists, they are each other’s Most Important Person and have so much influence on each other’s character development and it’s reflected so perfectly in that seventy-something episodes later we’re going to see Sabine standing right here where Ezra’s standing now.
*sobs*
Okay I’m good.
Right here is also when we hear our first classic Star Wars leitmotif, as the Imperial March blares out with obnoxious brassy flair.
Followed almost immediately by the short excerpt of the Rebel Alliance theme that functions as our stinger.
(I’m going to be talking about the score A LOT this time around, better get used to it lol.)
Ugh, there was this one stupid post that was like, “What’s so bad about the Empire regulating commerce anyway?  Controlling food safety is a good thing!”  REGULATIONS ARE A TOOL OF THE STATE TO CONTROL ITS PEOPLE SHARON, you notice they harass this vendor specifically because he hasn’t asked permission from the oh-so-benevolent Empire to make a couple credits selling a single basket of fruit, as if that’s something the Empire needs to control, and when he dares to complain about it they immediately want to toss him in prison.  That’s the epitome of petty state authoritarianism.
This is also such a wonderful character establishing moment for Ezra, because as much as he says he’s only out for himself and doesn’t stick his neck out for people the very first thing we see him doing in the show is surreptitiously sticking up for this harassed vendor.
We learn three main things here: 1. He’s clever and agile, 2. He’s a street kid trying to survive, 3. He actually really does care about people.  All in less than a minute.  Very tight writing.
I love the sound effect they use to signify Force use.  It’s very pretty.
Aaaaand of course accompanying it, the quiet string prelude to the classic Force theme.  An immediate auditory clue cueing us into the fact that Ezra is also Force Sensitive.  So unconsciously, we’re already primed to expect that.
Snrk, I still love how casually Sabine tosses the grenade onto the speeder.
There’s a strechiness and elasticity to the character models here that I think they lose later, as the tone evens out into being more serious, but it’s very Disney-esque.
Actually hilarious and kind of fascinating that instead of stopping Ezra, Sabine lets him keep part of the shipment and have a fair shot at escaping.
She definitely sounds like she likes his gumption.
Tumblr media
If no supposed to ship, why let Tiya say the line so playfully here?
Zeb’s resigned thumbs up always cracks me up.
It bears repeating but the animation?  Very Disney-esque.  The whole way characters move, their design, how they emote and express.
I was always particularly impressed by the hair.
Look at it.
It’s always shifting softly around Ezra’s face and blowing in the wind and reacting to his movement shafkjghkajh.
SO much better than early Clone Wars.
No, shut up, go back and watch those awkward early episodes.
The faces don’t emote.
Kanan’s fond little smile. :)  He already loves that kid so much.
Again with the animation being very 2D Disney hand-drawn inspired in the way Kanan sloughs his shoulders here replying to Hera.
Tumblr media
Hgnnnglllll the little shine in Ezra’s irises shifts like it’s an anime sparkle, I love this animation I love it I love it your Clone Wars could never.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If no supposed to ship, literally why have this moment with the classic Sees Her In Sparklevision trope?  (Okay so I added the actual sparkles but still.)
Seriously Filoni.  “I think there’s an automatic instinct to ship them.”  WELL WITH THIS COMING DAY ONE EPISODE ONE WHAT DID YOU THINK WAS GOING TO HAPPEN?!
Hi Kallus!
Right so after this sequence where Ezra feels inexplicably guilty for not doing more to help the people of Tarkintown despite him literally only finding out they existed two minutes ago there was pretty much no way I wasn’t going to love him.
I think my brain subconsciously recognized, “Oh, he has a Hero Complex.” annnnd yep, yep, that did it, he’s my son now.
Interestingly, this is also I believe the first time we hear Ezra’s leitmotif, which like Luke’s theme is primarily in brass but in a minor key, slower, more somber, more introspective, almost a thematic foil to the adventurous bold excitement of Luke’s theme.
Luke’s theme, AKA the Star Wars Main Title theme, by the way, is primarily used throughout Rebels to denote heroism.  Typically it comes in whenever we have a Gunship Rescue from the Ghost or some other kind of Big Damn Heroes moment.
Side note appreciating the animation again, the storyboarding and blocking is very cinematic.  The camera moves as it might on a modern Hollywood production instead of a weekly TV serial, which I think helps makes Rebels feel closer to the Original Trilogy.
And here the full Force theme breaks through. :)
Note: At this point, behind the scenes, Hera and Kanan have already discussed Ezra’s potential Force Sensitivity, and agreed to test him.  I am still sorely in need of fanfics that cover that conversation.  Just saying.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
AGAIN.  WRITERS.  YOU NEED TO BE A LITTLE MORE AWARE OF JUST HOW SHIPPY THINGS COME ACROSS BETWEEN EZRA AND SABINE THIS FIRST EPISODE.
Like, there’s a reason why this conversation and footage is used in a million Sabezra amvs.
Ezra rubbing his hand on his neck, Sabine’s soft looks of concern at him, how warmly she finally reciprocates on telling him her name...
(Also notice how Ezra, empath that he is, immediately cottons onto the fact that Sabine considers the Ghost crew her family and discerns that something or other happened to her bio family.)
Gremlin child Ezra. <3
I’m sorry, I just noticed this:
Tumblr media
What is that look, Sabine?  Lolol.
Hera going into Mom Mode immediately.  Her cheeky look back at Kanan, lol, she knows exactly what she’s doing.
Edgy TWC bros complained so much about the humor in early Season One and I say they have no taste, “rare hairless Wookie” is hilarious.
Part Twooooooooo!
For all his bluster and his devil may care facade, Ezra had that Jedi compassion and drive in him from the very start, I will hear NO slander otherwise.
Something in this escape sequence I absolutely love?  Ezra clinging to Zeb’s back.  Just the way he grabs Zeb’s legs and climbs him like a feral cat.  And Zeb does not appreciate it lol.
Oh hey, we’re at The Scene That Basically Sealed Ezra As Tari’s New Favorite Whump Target.
Yeah, protip to all showrunners, you put an emotionally vulnerable young male protagonist in mortal peril and you basically guarantee that I will obsess and fixate on them forever.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
EVERY SINGLE FRAME OF THIS SHOT IS MORE HEARTBREAKING THAN THE LAST.
Hngl and you can hear him hyperventilating too ow my heart.
A brief excerpt of Ezra’s theme plays right here too, as if to compound Zeb’s guilt about the whole thing lol.
Like the score itself is saying, “HEY AREN’T YOU MISSING SOMEONE?!”
Sabine automatically assuming Zeb did something to Ezra. <3
Hera full-naming Zeb. <333333
A couple people pointed out before that Ezra flinches pretty noticably when Kallus reaches for him, and Kallus definitely marks that reaction with his eyes.  It’s such a quick little sequence but it’s fascinating in the layers it suggests.
I reiterate: The subtle facial animation is this show is fantastic.  The minute little emotions that you can pick up tell so much story.
Chopper voting with Hera to go back for Ezra. <333333333333333  The murder hobo does have a heart.
Tumblr media
I love the little sideglance these troopers give each other after Ezra seals them in.  You can’t even see their faces but you know they’re chagrined all, “Oh.  Ohhhh we’re in so much trouble.”
And the joke is even followed up on when Kallus demands to know how Ezra escaped and this poor dude just has all the notes of, “This is the worst day of my life.” in his voice lololol.
I gotta gives props to Taylor Gray, he pulls off Ezra’s impersonations really well.
So how much do you want to bet Kallus had unfortunate flashbacks every time one of Sabine’s bombs threw him?
“I’m sure your parents must be worried sick.”  “I don’t have parents.”
Tumblr media
*URGE TO ADOPT HIM INTENSIFIES*
(Also, same, Hera, same.)
Speaking of entire stories being told in the subtle expressions...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tangenting here a little bit, I’ve seen more than one bad faith reading chiding Kanan and especially Hera for “manipulating Ezra into being a child soldier” and hnnghghghgkjgdksh could you guys have any worse comprehension?
Ezra’s fate, narratively and meta-textually speaking, was sealed the moment he volunteered the information about the Wookies and actively took part in their rescue.  He didn’t have to do any of that.  He could have stayed quiet.  He didn’t.  He could have made Hera drop him off first.  He didn’t.  He could have stayed on the ship the whole rescue.  He didn’t.  And yeah, some of the reason why is because Hera told him it was better to fight for others than only for himself, but also have you considered that Ezra maybe is just that selfless at heart?
(See above where his Establishing Character Moment was saving that fruit vendor.)
ANYWAY, if he hadn’t done any of that, Kallus would have never seen him leap far higher than he was supposed to be able to, and would never have marked him as a Force Sensitive, would never have alerted the Inquisitor to him and basically marked him as a target.
Any time the local Lothal garrison spotted him, their impetus would be his capture and/or extermination.  Ditto for when news eventually reached the Inquisitorius.
The safest place for him was absolutely staying with the Ghost (where he could be trained to protect himself) and they even gave him the choice about it.
To say that he was manipulated or guilted by Hera into following instincts that were already inside him denies Ezra his narrative agency; he chose to become a Rebel and fight against the Empire.  Hera might have awakened his heroism but it was Ezra who Answered The Call.
All right, tangent over.
Oh ho man, you can tell they went into this with zero plans to redeem Kallus.
I mean, I’m glad that it happened, I definitely enjoy that aspect of his character.  But there was noooooo groundwork laid for it in these early episodes lol.
Writers got halfway in and realized, “Shit, we like him.” and then had to scramble to come up with something, which, I mean... I relate.
Ah, here’s what I mean when I say Luke’s theme is used primarily as a shorthand for the element of heroism.
And for an example of what I’m talking about re: cinematic camera motion, there’s the bit right where the crew charges out of the cargo hold onto the platform on Kessel.  The camera is behind our subjects and instead of immediately cutting to an exterior shot (which would be perfectly acceptable), instead it sort of rolls out behind them, pushing down and forward with them, for a more dynamic shot.
Add several tracking shots after that, that basically follow specific characters, and with that simple cinema magic, the action sequence feels more frenetic and energized.
Gosh, Ezra was so tiny back in Season One.
I do like this cue right here, when the Imperial ship drops in, don’t know if it’s generic action filler or it becomes a leitmotif later, will have to pay attention I guess.
With context from A New Dawn, we know that Kanan has not ignited his lightsaber since Order 66, though he apparently came pretty close it in that book.  I just find it rather beautiful and poetic that the Force tells him it’s time right when he has a padawan to protect. :)
And this reveal is still excellently done, fine candidate for my personal No Context Signature Scene Test (that being a scene which, when shown in isolation, showcases off the best of a movie or show and entices watchers to check out the rest, it must do a good job of selling the work, essentially).
POV shot as Kanan stands up out of cover, cut to in front of him, the action music drops out and fades into the Force Theme and Kanan just kind of... casually walks through shots, leaning around them, the sound gets muted slightly, we get the gunslinger shot of the lightsaber pieces clicking together and then the Force Theme gets a bass drum flare to emphasize the moment.  Awed looks from everyone.  A triumphant musical cue.
Even Kallus is unnerved for a second lol.
And I love the verbal hesitation when he says, “Focus your fire on... on the Jedi.” like he can’t even believe he’s saying that.
Is it any wonder why I love the whole Rebellion Era Jedi aesthetic?  It does such a good job of encapsulating pure eucatastrophe, the sudden happy turn for good, a beacon of light and hope breaking through the darkness and despair.
The Wookies look at Kanan like a living legend has stepped out of the pages of their storybooks.
HNGH no one touch me.
And of course, Kanan stepping up immediately inspires Ezra to do the same, I love these two so much.
Wilhelm scream, lol.
See people, Kallus already associates Ezra with Kanan and has marked them as a master-padawan pair, there was no chance Ezra was going to just be able to keep his head down and live his life after this.
And again with the subtle expressions, there’s just a flash of sadness from Ezra here as he watches Kitwarr reunite with his dad, HAVE I MENTIONED I LOVE HOW UTTERLY EXPRESSIVE THE FACES ARE IN THIS SHOW?
I do kind of wonder what made Ezra decide to swipe Kanan’s lightsaber.
He had a thought to sell the holocron but honestly it seems like he wanted to keep the saber.  As a keepsake?  To use?
Honestly though I love it when writers have Force Sensitives just kind of compulsively drawn to Jedi artifacts and tools.  Like some part of them is called by the Force within the items.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s a really cute, almost shy way that Sabine ducks into her shoulders here.  I see it in amvs all the time but no one ever really talks about it.
I mean, along with Chopper’s sad little moan I think it’s meant to convey that they’re already fond of him and regret him having to leave.
Chopper loved Ezra from the beginning and only gave him grief because that’s how he shows affection change my mind.
Ezra does not take Zeb’s playful hit well, flinches like he did with Kallus.  Of course later he’d get used to it but right now Ezra definitely does not associate roughhousing with affection.
Ezra gets so timid in his body language here.
I... I would really love to know how Kanan got up the tower.  Where exactly is the turbolift in this thing?  Is it in Ezra’s room?  How’d Kanan sneak past?
I know we’re meant to believe Kanan is physically there and just Batmans in and out but honestly I don’t blame the people with the wild theory that Ezra’s having a vision of Kanan in this moment.
Speaking of Ezra’s timid body language, have you noticed how often he crosses his arms, in an insecure kind of self-protective fashion?  This all but goes away in the later seasons as he grows up.
Aaaaaand we hear a snatch of Leia’s theme as Obi-Wan’s message plays again, a little musical Call Forward to the princess’s iconic plea for help perhaps?
Interestingly it fades into a very understated version of Luke’s theme, without the full orchestral accompaniment, just a single trumpet and then some quiet strings playing the notes.
I’m going to have to pay attention but I’m tentatively hypothesizing that Leia’s theme will primarily represent the aspect of hope in the series, to accompany Luke’s representing the idea of heroism.
Hope and heroism, two classic archthemes of Star Wars, lol.
Maybe it’s fitting that Ezra’s theme kind of blends the feel of both of the twins’.
On a completely different note, nice to see composer Kiner keeping in the tradition of assigning the Ominous Latin Chorus to the villains, lol.
I like Grand’s theme, it’s reminiscent of the Emperor’s, all bass male voices and dark minor chords in the strings.
I warned y’all I was gonna be talking about the soundtrack a lot in these.
And that’s the pilot premiere down.  Some people said they found it hard to get into the series at first, but I was never one of them, the pilot had me hooked from the get go.  Granted it was my birthday and I was a bit, ah... sloshed at the time.
Still, there was pretty much no way I wasn’t going to be into this show.  The classic Star Wars feel, the lovely animation, the fact that Ezra was basically exactly My Type... (Orphan, tragic backstory, Hero Complex, heartwarming relationship with (surrogate) father figure, this boy was ticking off boxes left and right lemme tell ya.)
Pilot still holds up.  Not every show’s first episode does but this one does.
This was a fun exercise.  I think I’m going to try to knock one of these out a day at a time until Ahsoka drops, maybe not as in-depth and rambly as this one, but we’ll see.
Until tomorrow then.

Where Angels Fear To Tread
Rating: T Characters: Plo Koon, Commander Wolffe, the Jedi Council, assorted Jedi & Clone side characters, a whole bunch of OCs Chapters: 9/? Fic Contains – star warstrek crossover, a whole lotta culture clash, discussion of genocide and war and other Clone Wars-typical topics, Jedi culture/worldbuilding, and the authors playing fast and loose with both canons.
THEN: In the midst of the Clone Wars, a newly-minted Jedi Knight vanishes, suspected of defecting. But the woman brought back to face the Council is not Knight Tulin, but an officer of an extragalactic organization that calls itself ‘Starfleet’. Curiosity, and a determination to rectify the mistake, drive Plo Koon to take the lost Commander Chester under his wing. But between Republic Intelligence’s sinister interest in their extra-galactic visitor, the growing Separatist determination to capture her for themselves, and the good Commander’s own determined escape attempts, keeping Chester alive is hard enough–let alone getting her home. NOW: In the horrific wake of Order 66, a badly injured Plo Koon stakes his survival on one last desperate hyperspace jump, to a mysterious anomaly that might offer hope for him–and for what little remains of the Jedi Order. For Captain Diane Chester, Plo’s arrival is confirmation of all her fears. Now, she’s got to keep the Empire’s grubby hands off the Alpha Quadrant with only one ship, one Jedi, and that greatest Starfleet tradition–a hell of a lot of showmanship.
...
sooooo a few months ago @severeannoyance and myself were yelling excitedly at each other about, respectively, star trek and star wars, and somehow this turned into inflicting our assorted blorbos on each other. Then @squireofgeekdom joined the crew, and suddenly we had approximately 150k words of narrative collision.
I have been meaning to post this link for like six weeks and I kept forgetting skjhgjdhf

workndeadline you say?
i say 11 & 14 for the ask game!
BOLI! Thank you, mine boss! I assure you I was actually working on this answer when I should have been working on my deadline, but this day went wide on me in weird ways. And please feel free to send some Ask Game my way if anyone else is interested.
That said:
11: Weirdest thing you’ve ever written/thought about writing/etc.?
Well, I do have some sex stuff. In fact, only just today I typed the upsetting words: "Dooku gonna break that seer in half (respectfully)" while chatting to my gal about this upcoming chapter of 12 months that I'll be posting … hopefully in the next week or so. (And then disappearing from this website forever into the deep woods, never to be seen again because of lingering religious guilt about writing sex.) But that isn't really that weird for Tumblr/Ao3 writing circles.
I think my weirdest writing project right now is The Thunder Answered Back. I slap a timer to give a defeated RotS-era Dooku like 10 minutes to grab up anything he wants to save at the Temple during Order 66, except the catch is that he has no hands. And then, it gets stranger.
It's an Escape the Empire salvage job, not a fix-it. It's part Jocasta/Dooku, but she might kill him, part Jedi family, but they might kill him, I'm wrangling a huge ensemble of obscure Jedi Legends characters and trying to save them all, there are younglings (I can't write kids!), Asajj is in the mix (she also wants to murder Dooku), Obi-Wan, Yoda, and even I don't know what's going on with Sifo-Dyas's ghost -- is he real? is he a figment of Dooku's imagination? is he part OF Dooku? and that's going to be a lot weirder when he takes over the plot and maybe tries to get them to all go save his Clones… ugh.
It's going to be really fun, and I'm behind on the chapter 4 update but actively working on it. Right now I have Winter Depression (tm) and my brain genuinely doesn't work well because of it, so I'm choosing stories that are more comfort food. But I'll be back after it soon!
14 Your favorite side pairings to put in?
Does Dooku/Makashi count, because… I think that's a side pairing in all of my Dooku fics. He loves his friends, I love tangling him up into various pairings with them, but at the end of the day, he really, really loves that lightsaber form. Probably because it's really Dooku/Dooku.
Another few pairings… I do love Quinobi, oldie but a goodie is Qui/Tahl, and I might do something with Sifo-Dyas/Arath soon. I kind of like the whole alternate subtext reading of Dooku: Jedi Lost that Arath is such a bully to Dooku early on because Dooku is inseparable with his crush, the cutest boy in the Hawkbat clan. *making finger guns and winking at Sifo-Dyas*

Your breath hitched as you felt it, lives being snuffed out all over the galaxy but this was different to the natural flow of life and death. Thousands of connections to the force were being cut, and Jedi were dying on a massive scale.
The force was brewing with betrayal and fear and you could feel it in your body.
You felt eyes on you as you turned around to find two clones standing behind you.
"How can I-" Your question stuck in your throat as you noticed their blasters pointed at you.
"Good soldiers follow orders" They said as they aimed and fired at you. You barely managed to avoid the shots as you stepped back.
"What are you doing?" You asked as they continued to fire. You reached for the lightsaber on your hip, you barely used it, for the last three years it merely served as a visible reminder of a Jedi presence on Kamino. You'd never been more thankful to have it.
You easily deflected their shots, continuing backwards.
"Troopers! What are you doing?!" You questioned.
"We have orders to execute order 66." One of them said and aimed to take another shot. You sliced his blaster through the barrel.
"I don't know what that means but I can't let you do that" You said, using the force to knock him back into a wall as you ran past his brother.
"They're on the run! We need reinforcements to sector 31" The clone said into his comm as you ran through the corridors. when you made it into an empty corridor you jumped into the vents.
"They're gone. Sweep every corridor. Find them." A clone said from under you and you did your best to stay silent. You had to get off this planet.
You watched through a small crack in the vents as they loaded Shaak Ti's body onto a transport. She was the only other Jedi on this force forsaken planet. You had to get out before it was your body they'll be loading off next.
You couldn't think how this could happen. You'd spent the last three years serving as an ambassador from the Jedi medical corp on Kamino, you've helped treat and raise practically every clone on Kamino. You'd given some of them their names.
You've operated on them, tested them, aided them in any way you could, so how could they suddenly turn on you? On all of the jedi?
---
You'd been hiding in the vents for two days. You were tired on account of barely being able to sleep. Hungry, thirsty and every kind of cramped and uncomfortable.
You'd moved around the vents, staying in the same place could mean you'd get caught.
Your most recent location was in the vents over the brigg. It was always empty, they were more for theoretical scenarios than real ones. Until today at least because now Clone Force 99 was being held right below you and you were terrified. You had no idea why they were being held but with Hunter's senses you had a much higher chance of being found and with added security on account of there being actual prisoners you couldn't move much.
They forced a panel open and you slowly scooted closer to that side of the vent when a mop of blonde hair almost collided with you.
"Y/N?" Omega asked and you shushed her.
"Keep your voice down. They're looking for me" You told the girl quietly. You'd worked quite closely with her during your time on Kamino and you liked her quite a bit. She- like you- wasn't like what she was supposed to be and you liked her positive childlike views.
"You've been in the vents this whole time?" Omega asked and you nodded.
"The clones have standing orders to kill the Jedi" You whispered and she looked at you strangely.
"I Thought you said the service corps weren't Jedi" She whispered back and you shook your head.
"It was Jedi enough to get me shot at" You told her. She was the first person you'd spoken to since order 66. You'd missed not being alone.
You heard talking below you and felt distrust and suspicion through the force.
“I think the guards may be onto your little trick” You told Omega as she crawled.
“I need to get down there” She said and you nodded.
“Pound down on the vent entrance under you, it should drop you right over the guards” You told her and she looked at you, disappointment in her eyes.
“You’re not gonna help?” She asked and you looked away from her.
“I’d only be getting you into more trouble” You told her but she shook her head.
“We’re leaving Kamino. We’ll take you with us” She said. You looked at her hopefully, nodding.
“In that case, you take out the ray shield, I’ll take out anyone that tries to stop you” You told her and she nodded, breaking through the vent cover and toppling the clone guards under her. You jumped down from the hole she’d created in the shaft, landing soundlessly on the ground.
A clone guard tried to grab Omega but you grabbed him by the back of his chest piece and slung him into a wall, knocking him out like his brothers.
Tech stunned another clone with his brother’s blaster once Omega took down the ray shield and they all crowded around you and Omega.
“What are you doing here?” Wrecker asked as you straightened out your robes for the first time since you’d escaped the clones.
“I was hiding, they tried to kill me” You said, looking at them cautiously.
“Are you going to do the same?” You asked them, you hoped not. Omega said they could be your ticket off of Kamino but you couldn’t be too careful at the moment.
Hunter shook his head. “No. But if you’re here you can help us find Crosshair to leave.” Hunter said and you nodded.
“Alright, let’s move” He said and you all turned into the corridor.
---
You all snuck into the hangar where they’d moved all of the squad’s stuff. You examined your lightsaber while the boys suited up.
“I’ve never seen you use your lightsaber” Omega said from next to you and you nodded.
“I used it for the first time in three years today. Besides training that is” You told her. You didn’t like that you had to use it but it’s not like you hurt anyone with it and these were dire circumstances.
“Tech, power up the ship. The rest of us will go after Crosshair” Hunter said and Tech nodded.
“I should stay with Tech then” You said. “I’m afraid I won’t be much help” You told Hunter and he nodded.
“Alright” He said and you boarded the ship with Tech.
Just as you entered the safety of the ship, a squad of clone troopers along with Crosshair walked into the hangar.
You could feel the surprise and hurt radiating off the rest of the bad batch through the force. Almost worse, you could cut the tension in the hangar with a butter knife. Soon the first shot was fired and blaster bolts began flying.
You helped Tech begin the preflight sequences as fast as you could and a part of you whispered that you would be able to help more by deflecting shots outside. You had a weapon that nobody out there could fight against after all, but you knew better. You weren’t nearly good enough in lightsaber combat to help and you’d only cause them to call for backup.
Once Tech got the ship fired up, you carefully snuck down to the hull. You did your best to shift any blaster bolts aimed for Omega away with the force while she made her run to the ship. When she was close enough you just pulled her towards you with it.
“They have the Jedi with them” You heard Crosshair say to his men and you knew you all had to get out of here before reinforcements came.
Hunter and Echo dragged an injured Wrecker onto the ship just in time and Tech took off, getting you all as far away from Kamino as you hoped you could get.
“Echo, get me the med kit” You told him once Wrecker was settled.
“I wanna take a look at that blaster shot” You explained, looking at the singe marks on Wrecker’s armor.
“Is it really that bad?” He asked but you shook your head.
“No, but It’s still better to take care of it now” You told him as you scanned his shoulder. He was just fine. You force healed him to simplify the matter and quicken the recovery time but after that he was fine.
Echo pulled Wrecker up to lean on him for some support and you joined them in the cockpit.
“-I guess I just got lucky” Omega said, though about what you weren’t sure. She had been talking to Hunter in the cockpit.
“She’s not the only one” Tech said and Wrecker whined.
“I’m fine, it’ll take more than a blaster shot to take me down” He said and Echo looked at him unimpressed.
“You were down” He reminded his brother and Wrecker got defensive.
“Yeah well not for long” He said before wincing.
“I healed the muscle, it’ll still be painful for a bit, big guy. Nerves tend to hold grudges” You explained, taking a seat on one of the chairs nearby.
“So, what’s the plan Hunter?” Tech asked and you all looked at him.
“I thought we could go off on our own, lay low. But with Crosshair gunning for us- I’m not so sure” He said and Tech turned to you.
“Y/N, what about you?” He asked and you looked down at your hands.
“There aren’t many places I can go. I definitely can’t return to the temple” You said before looking up at Hunter.
“I could stay with you guys if it’s okay with you. I’m sure you could use a healer with your record” You said, trying to keep the mood light.
“What about your friends?” Omega asked and Tech turned back to the window.
“That would be a short list.” He said.
“I could think of one. Plot a course for J19” Hunter instructed.
“J19?” Echo asked.
“We know a guy” Hunter said and Wrecker looked stoked.

Alright, I've gone and gotten inspired, and have a two hour window before dawn to work on stuff. So! A few Star Wars time travel ideas I've been jotting down over the years, in no particular order:
A1 - Padme Amidala wakes up in the Original Trilogy (via one of a few different methods), and proceeds to cause all sorts of trouble for everyone, especially her unsuspecting children
A2 - some clones troopers taken for decommissioning are not, in fact, euthanized, but rather frozen in carbonite for later use and stored in a separate facility that escapes destruction by the Empire. Many years later, they are accidentally discovered and awoken by Resistance member/former stormtrooper Finn
A3 - an Order 66 sort-of-fix-it in which multiple Jedi Masters are plucked from the moments of their deaths and tossed fifteen years into the future, where a handful of survivors are shocked but overjoyed to reunite with them, and the Rebellion gets a big infusion of new members perfectly suited to taking out Inquisitors
(those are the forwards, these are the backwards)
B1 - when Ahsoka, Kanan, and Ezra head to Malachor, it's Rex piloting the Phantom instead of Chopper, and of course he leaps into action to join the fight against Vader. Events fall a bit differently, and thanks to the World Between Worlds, instead of returning to the Sith temple post-explosion, Rex and Ahsoka end up back in middle of the Clone Wars, armed with sufficient knowledge to save a lot of lives
B2 - more snippets of picking up General Leia Organa (with or without bonus Resistance members) and depositing her at various points around the Prequel timeline for Maximum Chaos
B3 - a group of renegade clones some years into the Empire's reign wind up going back to a joint in time when Jaster Mereel is still Manda'lor, install themselves as Jango Fett's weird older cousins, and get to have some fun even while planning to assassinate Sidious
I'll stop there for the moment, and put this question to my readers:

So uuummm could I humbly ask for some thoughts on Avery x Echo for that OC ship game 👀 (hopefully Tech won't be too annoyed 🤣)
Deeja my lovely!! I’d love to give those thoughts! (Tech will live 🤣🤣)
I definitely think she and Echo would have hit it off! They have a shared propensity for chaos lol.
You didn’t specify so I’ll HC for her meeting him pre-Citadel AND meeting him with the Batch!
Buckle up because this is a long one lol!
Pre-Citadel meeting:
ARC Troopers often deploy independently of the legions and companies on highly sensitive missions. However, ARC Troopers need medics too. Which is how Avery ends with the chaos Domino Twins.
The moment our boys meet her they put on the charm, dropping “mesh’la” and “ner saraad” and “cyar’ika” at every opportunity. She’s rolling her eyes but flattered. However when they start briefing her on the mission and Echo reveals just how skilled a tactician he is and how exceptionally intelligent he is well… ✨competency kink activated✨
In the two to three standard rotations it takes for them to arrive at their destination, Avery finds herself drawn more and more to Echo. Sideways glances are shared, she’s giggling at his jokes, and she’s standing just a little closer to him all the time. And she, like the rest of us, thinks the kamas and paldrons are sexy af.
And Echo and Fives obviously notice. Echo amps up that cool charm and Fives is encouraging it in the most obvious fashion that he can because they’re men, not just numbers and Fives will ensure his vod is happy
The mission goes almost perfectly. Until they encounter some unexpected B2s and Echo is hurt. It is then that he discovers he too, has a competency kink. Avery skillfully patches him up once safely aboard the ship en route to base. Echo is impressed at how capable she is and how effectively she heals him using the force. He also enjoys being so close to her as she fusses over him.
During a wound check and dressing change he makes his move. As she’s running her usual battery of tests he cups the back of her neck, bringing her in for a chaste kiss. She’s caught entirely off guard and it takes a few seconds for her to process what’s happening but once she does it evolves into a full on make out session.
Fives walks in on them and asks Echo which reg manual taught him that. Echo throws a glove at him.
Avery and Echo have secret rendezvous every time they are both on Coruscant and she does her best to be assigned to any missions Echo is sent on.
Unfortunately she was stationed on a hospital frigate when he and Fives were sent to the Citadel.
Fives gives her the news. She’s furious with Anakin for leaving his body which unintentionally reveals their relationship.
Anakin is the one who contacts her about Skako Minor. “Rex thinks Echo is still alive. We are taking a small team to try and find him.” She’s there. He didn’t even ask her to come. But she’s there.
The moment she lays eyes on him she’s rushing to him, wrapping her arms around his neck and sobbing. Rex is peeved because now he has another secret relationship he has to hide. Anakin is happy he’s not the only Jedi banging someone. The Batch don’t really care because when do they ever follow orders?
They resume their relationship as before until Order 66. Avery escapes and hides out in Ord Mantell knowing Echo will get the Batch there eventually. Then they join Rex, save everybody and nothing bad ever happens to them again 👉🏻👈🏻
Tumblr media
If they met post O66
Avery would have joined Chuchi in her efforts to fight for clone rights
Which is how she’d meet Rex and become part of his secret network
She’s the contact the Batch have to meet in an extraction of more of their brothers.
During the course of the mission, she and Echo get separated from the rest of the Batch. While in hiding waiting for their pick up they bond over their shares passions (freedom fighting and fucking over the Empire mostly.) He’s touched by her story about Aay’han and respects how much she cares for and has sacrificed for the safety of his brothers. She finds him charming and funny under his grumpy exterior. They spend the cold night cuddling for warmth (ahhh such a delicious trope). And by morning they’ve started making googoo eyes at each other.
When Echo finally joins Rex, the two of them become the dynamic duo power couple of clone freedom fighting!

Talking with @rogueleader14 about our respective Star Wars AUs made me decide to share more characters who exist in it, as well as their stories. As I've alluded to elsewhere, this AU draws on all corners of Star Wars canon, be it Disney, Legends, LEGO, or in this case, Visions. I finally got around to watching both seasons this year, and I jumped at the chance to incorporate some of the characters in my AU. These are the micros I've made so far for these characters. Story details under the cut. All of them are in the post-Return of the Jedi setting.
-The Ronin, real name Douga Heian, was a child during the Clone Wars, his Force-sensitivity never manifesting until later in life. By the time that happened, the Empire had risen and he was picked up by the Inquisitorious rather than the Jedi. Though a promising talent and initially loyal to the Empire, he gradually became more aware of the Empire's corruption and went awol, laying low and even starting a family. After Palptaine's death at Endor, former Inquisitors and other Imperial Dark Jedi began running amok as warlords and independent raiders, prompting Douga to come out of hiding and hunt down his former contemporaries.
*I chose his name by combining Kamikaze Douga, the animation company that made The Duel, and the Heian period of Japan (794 to 1185), where the term ronin came from.
-Am and Karre's story is mostly the same, albeit toned down CONSIDERABLY. Here, their creation was overseen by Sebban Keto, a character from a roleplaying game who is descended from Aleema and Sataal Keto from the Tales of the Jedi comics. Sebban intended to revitalize the Krath cult with the twins at the head, but Karre's defection puts those plans on hold. Karre steadily grows into more of a true Jedi as he journeys on his own, while striving to save his sister from the dark path.
*Karre wields a dual-phase lightsaber with a unique gradient crystal. While obviously nowhere near as big as in the short (closer to Pong Krell's blades for reference), it still grows much longer and thicker, enabling a greatsword style of combat.
*Am initially only carried her two normal lightsabers, but installed the prosthetic arms and built the extra four after Karre went rogue.
-F, real name Ephalline Kinema (also taken from the name of the studio), is mostly intact for her story in the Village Bride. Specifically, her feet were maimed while escaping Order 66, forcing her and her master to take refuge for medical treatment. Her ridiculous high heels are actually prosthetics here. Ephalline was still recovering when Darth Vader tracked her master down, and she was forced to watch helplessly as he was cut down. Post-Village Bride, F wanders the galaxy to do good wherever she can, eventually leading her to Tao...
-Lop and Ocho's story is also unchanged. Several years later, Ocho has risen to be the Imperial magistrate of her homeworld, while Lop has fallen in with fellow Lepi smuggler Jaxxon T. Tumperakki to make ends meet. During one of their runs, they bump into F, who recognizes Lop's potential as a Jedi and offers to train her. This development, combined with Ocho's difficulties in arresting her sister (due in no small part to her conflicting loyalties), leads to the Empire sending an Inquisitor to "help out". Lop eventually completes her training, succedes in getting through to Ocho, and joins the New Jedi Order.
-Anni Kalfus and Julan Van Reeple enroll in a New Republic flight academy as teenagers before joining the fleet post graduation. Their rivalry continues into their service, even as they find themselves assigned to the same flight group. Thankfully, the demands of military service and the mentorship of General Thane Kyrell goes a long way towards improving their relationship. By the time of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion, the two are genuine friends and lead their own squadron with distinction.
-Jay and T0-B1 both also exist around this time period, while the events of In the Stars, Bandits of Golak, The Spy Dancer, and The Pit happen during Imperial rule.
-The Elder takes place pre-Phantom Menace
-Daal and the Sith Mother are part of the Banite line.
-Sith and Journey to the Dark Head are during the New Sith Wars, and Aau's Song is shortly after the Battle of Ruusan.
-I'm debating on where The Ninth Jedi would go in the timeline, while Akakiri is an in-universe fable.
(microheroes based on templates and parts from my List of Sources)
