elaborating on eternal sunshine of the spotless mind! slimariana:

mariana not wanting to deal with the grief of losing their daughter and their tumultuous relationship and not seeing a way for them to be happy together anymore. charlie had always had a way of making him feel so guilty.

charlie learns that mariana erased him from his memory and erases his own memories out of spite, having to relive all of their memories together, their memories with juanaflippa, and realizing too late that he didn’t want to lose mariana too. he tries his hardest to fight back just to forget it all.

despite everything, they’re drawn back to each other in the end. they receive their videotapes back from the memory firm, and realize that they had known each other. it’s messy, they fight over insults that were said on the tapes, and feelings are hurt. as they listen, they realize that they had both been flippa’s parents. they connect over her and exchange stories, realizing that in losing each other, they had also lost a part of her. they piece juanaflippa back together, and remember that all she had ever wanted was for them to be a happy family. they don’t know all of the nuances behind their divorce, and they had no guarantee that they would work out together, but they decide to give their relationship another chance. for juanaflippa.
