my conclusion after finishing the witcher season 2 is that they had a very clear storyline which is overall ok but the writing (especially on an episode basis) is weak at best

#props to the actors for working with what they had (esp yennefer fringila and triss) #yennefe's arc was..... i mean i know plenty of ppl don't like her s1 arc because of the whole motherhood thing #but i actually liked how it was focused and that it wasn't so much about motherhood itself but more about body autonomy #and the desperatr need of having someone to unconditionally love you and depend on you (at least that's how i saw it) #and her arc here had sooooo much potential but ultimately it was botchy in it's development #also jaskier. a beloved character. much needed comic relief but did nothing after geralt saved him #don't get me started on how fringila was far too naive at first and the moment she snaps out of it it's shown during a murderous spree #only to have her character dragged down AGAIN for being too naive. similar butchering to what happened to cahir's character in the end #only it's far far worse with fringila and hmmm cannot shake the feeling it's uh. racist writing actually! #idk. the dialogues weren't too good. ciri went through some good character development but she was very much the only one to do so #i mean geralt kinda did too but he's so stiff....... also tons of witchers around and they were all pretty useless for writing's sake #vesemir and geralt's relationship was good but felt underdeveloped. ciri and yen was good but rushed... ah #speciaf effects costumes sets & scenery lighting (the lighting!!!) were all very good #i think in the more technical department everything was pretty solid. can't judge the sound really because in dub it's a bit different #anyways at least i got to see 8 hours of very pretty ppl on my screen #laura watches stuff #also! you know those joke posts going around abt how shows actually need more s*x? yeah? well this is one of them lol #spicing it up a bit was not difficult wouldn't necessarily get in the way of the story and would actually help disipate the #storytelling tension given there is barely any comic relief at all for the most part (or any relief at all lmao all the calming acenes are #repetitive pseudo deep conversations between two characters lmao)

harry's relationship with touch, specifically with asking for and receiving touch of any kind, is very ehhh ?? touches are nice, esp from ppl he likes. but touch him for too long and he starts vibrating like a kettle that has had enough. touch him too suddenly and he's literally clawing out of his skin, and maybe yours too. touch him too often and he'd think theres some Plot going on. touch him too little and his abandonment isssues kick in.

in harry's childhood, every single request for physical aftection or reassurance has been met with sneers, flinches, looks of disgust and, at one very memorable time, a smack to the face. he stopped asking for positive physical contact soon after.

harry has never been to the sea or the beach before that time with the dursleys or when dumbledore took him the inferni cave. after his first proper and positive beach experience, he kinda wants a beach side house.

harry's fashion eventually evolves into something that resembles grunge, and by that i mean there's no statement to be found in his fashion choices. he gravitates towards darker colours since he thinks they help him hide in crowds better, and he developed a hobby of reforming whatever clothes he bought to make them feel more like his.

in fact, harry does a lot of customising of his things. hes a serial DIY-er and clothes reformer. nothing he owns looks the way they did when he first bought or got them. he says it makes them feel more like his, since they have his visible mark made by his own hands now

TOKYO PSYCHODEMIC launches May 30

Forensics investigation simulation game TOKYO PSYCHODEMIC will launch for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Switch, and PC via Steam on May 30, Gravity Game Arise announced. A demo is currently available for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC.

In Japan, the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Switch versions of TOKYO PSYCHODEMIC will be available both physically and digitally for 5,400 yen. First-print copies of the physical edition include a copy of the original soundtrack, which features music from the game including the ending theme song “Yell (feat. sleep cat & Lil Chill).”

Story

Gameplay

Based on information of unsolved cases that arrive at the detective agency, you will investigate the various circumstances that may be involved, such as the victim’s personal information, activity history from security cameras, etc. Collect and confirm the information on the evidence board and seek out to the truth.

Investigations

The investigation of a crime will be based on images of evidence from crime scenes, surveillance cameras, etc. Confirm the items, people, and points of interest involved in the case. Especially from security cameras, it is possible to confirm the behavior of the victims and others. From the moment of the incident, including before and after, every piece of information will allow you to infer the reason why an incident occurred. Use the evidence board to deduce how the evidence gathered relates to the case.

ok so. i love the witcher books. i read them a Long time ago and the story has stayed with me all these years + i'm polish so i have this different kind of emotional attachement to it as well. and i reread the books like 10 times already. but my point here is. i really struggle to understand the trajectory of the show. and i know a lot of things have been said about it (esp season 2), and i agree with some stuff and disagree with other (e.g., that black people don't belong in slavic stories. stfu). HOWEVER. something that baffles me more than anything else i think is the way they handled the relationship between jaskier and geralt. rant below :)

cause like. some of the stuff that happens in the show does happen in the books as well. it's not that the relationship is completely different than it was in the og source material. jaskier is kind of an idiot and gets geralt into a lot of trouble. geralt does get upset with jaskier at some point and tells him a few unpleasant things. but like. the entire relationship is different?? the circumstances too? geralt doesn't get upset with jaskier for no reason, and he doesn't berate him for stuff that jaskier isn't guilty of. (in baptism of fire there is a very good reason for geralt to very decidedly tell jaskier that he's being an idiot and it would have been better if geralt "strangled him and threw him in a ditch" like some people suggested he should when they first started travelling together. and even then, in this particular book, geralt is being awful to everyone because he's Going Through Things, but it's never as baseless as in the show, and then he gets called out on it by everyone and changes his behavior. but regardless.) it's like the writers took all of the books and hand-picked the awful moments and behaviors present in their friendship and packed them into the first season (i'm not even gonna discuss season two because it's just not even remotely similar to the books sorry). i mean, geralt would NEVER not on pain of death hurt jaskier physically. the gut punch in the second episode always makes me go "well MY geralt would never". and pretty much the entire show does that as well.

the thing about this relationship and why it is so special in the books is that it provides levity. and i don't just mean that jaskier is the comic relief, i mean that jaskier brings levity into geralt's life. he's the one person who sees geralt as just human and who does not have any expectations for him (unlike yennefer, ciri, etc, all of them in different ways and for different reasons). jaskier condemns geralt's attitute towards himself multiple times (ie makes geralt understand that he isn't different and alienated from humanity by default, that he keeps expecting people to see the worst in him and treat him as some sort of exotic freak and not a person, which isn't true), allowing him to just be himself. they have fun together. like they're absolute idiots sharing one braincell sometimes and it's good!! it's fun!! he's geralt's best friend. that's literally how he's first introduced, before we even see him in the scene; nenneke tells geralt that jaskier's there to see him and asks if geralt wants to, and geralt literally says "of course, he's my friend, after all". and when nenneke tells him she doesn't understand this friendship because they're each others' complete opposites, geralt tells her "opposites attract". and that's that. none of the weird shit the show tries to pull with geralt refusing to call jaskier his friend because....? idk why actually.

their relationship is a constant. geralt and yen have issues all of the time; geralt avoids ciri for a while as well, but jaskier is someone he's always happy to see (there are actually many points in the books where geralt just sees a feather that jaskier wears on his hat or hears a "familiar peal of laughter" and immediately knows it's jaskier and always welcomes the bard into his company). and yeah, jaskier does drive geralt crazy because he's annoying and extravagant and kind of an idiot, but it's always met with something more akin to fond exasperation than with the cold annoyance that we get in the show.

in the books, they sleep in the same bed multiple times. they share physical contact. they save each other multiple times (jaskier stays in dangerous situations just because he doesn't want to leave geralt and instead tries to help him and geralt once calls jaskier crazy for thinking that he could ever leave jaskier in danger). in the last wish, after the djinn, geralt learns that jaskier will not be able to sing, but that he'll survive and be able to talk, and STILL geralt sits down in a corner resting his face on closed fists. and then says that he'd sit his bare ass on a scorpion if it meant that jaskier would be okay. and THEN keeps negotiating with yen so that jaskier is completely unharmed. meanwhile in the show we get a mere "yeah we won't let that happen" when jaskier is DYING. and in the lady of the lake, as they say goodbye, geralt says "daj pyska, stary durniu" which literally translates to "give me your face/mouth, old fool" and is used as an invitation to kiss someone platonically. can you imagine show geralt asking jaskier to kiss him? neither can i.

idk it's just so weird to me that they keep saying how "male friendship is so important blah blah" while making their relationship more of a one sided romance on jaskier's part, when they have SO much material in the books. and i'm bitter lmao

Charles Note: 2/1 Ochanomizu and guitar stores

Tokyo has a lot of guitar stores. There is a street in the neighborhood of Ochanomizu that, when including acoustic guitars and other instruments, has at least a hundred floors of musical instruments. That is where I stopped counting. And that is where we spent most of our day on 2/1.

When I started playing guitar in the early 2000s, I remember people online talking about a few of these stores and importing from them because of the quality of Japanese instruments, the range of styles, and the prices. The prices are even cheaper in person with the USD to yen exchange rate in my favor.

Not only are there lots of Japanese guitars available, but there is a big market for high end and vintage guitars from the US, guitars I have only seen in display cases or at a trade show. Some of these guitars are the price of a new SUV or rural house.

We went to a few stores and I have seen a few things I really liked. We have time, and I don't want to drag guitars along with our luggage around the country, so I am going to wait a bit to make choices on what to bring home. There are two shops for ESP, the prolific brand and custom shop that a lot of metal dudes favor.

I did buy a boost pedal that named after Japanese sweet bread though.

yeah i've read a couple of steam threads and apparently it's partially because the port is broken, like, the game is not supposed to run in 60 fps and it makes time sensitive mini games harder than they were supposed to be on ps3 (i find y3 karaoke a bit annoying too 😅). i was so happy that the completion list on the mini games side was relatively small and was like well mb i can get a hold of it and get a platinum (esp after how easy it was in kiwami 2 with cheat items and all that) but no, it's not going to happen. ok sorry for the rambling gotta go earn those 300k yen cause i spent all of my money on hostesses lmao

I think relative to shu and sonny, I love how variable and versatile nagao can be with his singing. The texture of his voice changes so much and makes his performances sound so full of life, to me.

Shu's mellow songs are my fave (flos, shoujo rei especially), though his other song performances during karaoke have also been great. sonny is a belter and it sounds SO good. but with these two, their voices are pretty stable, don't change too much in texture. which is good and fine!! nothing bad at all!!

I think I just occasionally enjoy more raspy/gravelly + smoky vibe like nagao's <:

I hate dandelion (esp after what happened to yen with the reavers) but i also see jaskier as a completely different person than him? like i adore jaskier but hate book!dandelion. he is so slimy

Honestly? I totally get that.

If it weren't for the fact that I already associate the character with TWN!Jaskier, I would probably not like Dandelion as much as I do. Even though he's a great foil to Geralt, and I LOVE his platonic bond with Essi, he's a v stereotypical womanizing guy.

Also, as you mentioned, he left a REALLY bad taste in my mouth after that shit in the bounds of reason. I'm so glad that they changed how that whole thing went in Rare Species (but they did add the "make a damn wish" scene in Bottled Appetites which is... :/)

I think one of the reasons I still enjoy Dandelion as a character is because of how much I adored Joey's Jaskier before reading the books! I think with the combination of Joey's phenomenal acting (and just plain cuteness) and changes in characterization, Dandelion was one of the things that really got improved in the Netflix adaptation!

...but then they took two steps back from their one step forward by changing his friendship with Geralt so much, to the point where he never even ADMITS they're friends! If only Netflix gave us Joey's Jaskier AND kept the good friendship that Geralt and Dandelion had in the books... if only 😔

was a hat stall bc the hat was debating over putting him in gryffindor or hufflepuff. sakuya just sat there bc he had No Idea what this magical hat was saying

the day he got his letter he was so excited to show it to his foster mom/aunt who eventually replied with a sneer “ha, knew there was something wrong with you.”

( i didn’t mean to make this angsty but if li/ber doesn’t give me some proper sakuya angst i’ll have to make it myself )

he’s a mess at potions bc he’s so clumsy!! but izumi forgives him he’s just so earnest. his favourite subject is history of magic bc he’s absolutely fascinated w the magical world! i can also see him being really good with magical creatures

Masumi // 4th year // hufflepuff // muggle born (i put him in slytherin originally but after Some Thought, i realize that i was wrong)

was also a hatstall but not for the same reason. he was just very bored and nonchalant about things that the hat struggled to place him anywhere

so fucking tired. about everything. how could he not be when he’s preparing for NEWTs and acting captain/chaser for their house quidditch team. he just has a Lot on his plate pls let him rest

comes from an old pureblood family. ala weasley with one brother working as a curse breaker (tadoru) and the other in the ministry (meguru). the rest of his siblings can be found in multiple other year levels and houses. kaoru is a 4th year hufflepuff, twins noboru and suberu are both 2nd year gryffindors and tsuzuru really hopes that tooru’s gonna be in ravenclaw with him next year.

tsuzuru is a pretty average student actually. Does well in charms and ancient runes ( actually ADORES ancient runes ), but struggles with transfiguration ( it doesn’t help that their professor is Horrid at teaching )

worked in the wizengamot before this and it was So Tiring but chikage dragged him back along to hogwarts ( which is Weird bc chikage doesn’t work until a year after itaru starts and he thinks his senpai might have been messing with him )

halfblood who’s attached to muggle gadgets. his contract specifically states that he’s allowed to bring his charmed gadgets or the deal is off. he follows a strict 9 to 5 schedule and it’s why he isn’t offered any sort of position outside of his usual teaching duties.

chikage tells him that’s Why he’s perfect for the job lmao all the shit he does and charms he comes up with is to make life more convenient is that so bad

Yuki and he are brothers but their parents are divorced. the father was the magical one. bc of the really large age gap, he feels very awkward with yuki but tries to make amends but it’s So Hard when the instinct to constantly start a pissing contest with your baby brother is second nature 

surprisingly popular with students. his “experiential learning techniques” are extremely dangerous but also very fun LOL
