ya ever think about how the lannister sibs all have big secrets kept from each other, like huge life-altering experiences? jaime's is the most obvious, the most talked-about, with the full story of his kingslaying and everything he endured from aerys leading up to it. it's clear enough to me that brienne was the first he opened up to about that, including either sibling. they never asked, but unlike ned stark and the rest deriding him as kingslayer, their lack of curiosity is no offense in itself bc as tywin's other children they would never judge him for turning his cloak purely out of family loyalty. ned's assumption of jaime's motives is directly tied to his judgment of jaime, but it's the judgment that rankles jaime so. choosing your father's life over a king's is hardly the worst crime in itself. how can he explain all the other reasons without prompting when its not just about his crime but all his trauma too? is there any basis for that in his relationship with cersei, who always relied on him for comfort and consolation but seems less adept at providing the same to him? or even with tyrion, his only real male friend for years, but also his baby brother, the one he was meant to protect and take care of, who was only 10 at the time of the kingslaying? even to fully share all with tyrion years later, both adults, could be something of a role reversal, forever shattering tyrion's image of him as the strong invulnerable golden big brother by revealing his own broken inner child. jaime can't break out from those sibling roles and patterns, so neither can ever understand that part of him, never knowing the early life he had at court without either of them with him.

and tyrion, who trusted jaime more than anyone in the world before learning the truth about tysha, still could not confide in him freely even when all that trust was still intact. jaime must have heard some story of what tywin did to tysha to feel the need to confess his lie, but he def didn't hear it straight from tyrion bc imo there's no way he could still think confessing would help anything if he understood how scarred tyrion was by what he witnessed and esp not knowing that tywin ordered him to participate at the end. tyrion could reveal all that to bronn when they barely knew each other but not to his beloved brother, his first and best friend. how can the most abused child explain all his unknown abuse to the golden child, the big brother meant to protect him who couldn't always do so? how does he even begin to reveal the deepest trauma that happened to him when jaime wasn't in the room, esp when the story does start with jaime apparently trying to help him by fixing him up with tysha?

and then there's cersei and all her secrets. she always turned to jaime for consolation, or at least when he knew she needed it, but how many times did he not know? how personally could she confide in him as they grew older and their paths diverged? we know the first big secret was maggy the frog's prophecy, her first big scare, which came on the cusp of puberty, an experience she couldn't share with her twin bc he would prob just laugh and make a joke of it. in their first real scene together, in bran's pov, he mocks lysa's motherly fears and likens her to cersei. ("I think birthing does something to your minds. You are all mad." He laughed.) then he makes light of her marital discord, ("And whose fault is that, sweet sister?"), having no idea of the depth of pain she'd suffered from robert, beyond his infidelities. he later blames her for being robert's queen, not his, only thinking of how she managed to arrange his kg post, that power to forever tie him to her in secret, never grasping her lack of control in marriage, that "a queen is only a woman after all". in her pride it was hard to reveal all she'd suffered as a woman, but she also couldn't rely on jaime's response if he knew of her abuse, knowing he would kill robert and get himself killed too, only making her and their children's lives more precarious. she couldn't trust him to listen about securing the throne before dealing with robert or that as robert's victim it was her right to decide such matters, to choose his fate, not jaime's place to avenge her without her say-so first. all bc they were both too stuck in their idea of jaime as her sword, nothing more, with jaime determined to protect her and tyrion, always a bodyguard before he ever donned a white cloak.

something something tywin did his best to play his children off each other and the most effective thing he did to divide them was by setting jaime up as the golden child and family protector. the designated lannister sword only pointing at threats outside their house. a knight serving his family whose protection was always limited, who could never protect them from the person who first hurt cersei and tyrion and made them who they were at a distance from him, bc ofc he couldn't fight his own father, much less slay him with a sword.

something something maybe the reason that joff+marg+loras was a surer recipe for kingslayer stew than robert+cersei+jaime is all down to that tyrell lack of abusive structure. not that loras cared more about marg, was more willing to kill for her than jaime was to kill robert, but that there wasn't a chance of marg hiding her misery from him if/when her husband abused her in their shared household. it's not like he understood her to the point of mind-reading but when their previous royal marital household involved her bearding for his boyfriend then they prob had a pretty good basis of open communication. in that sense, the lannicest twins with all their sexual and physical intimacy still had less emotional intimacy than the tyrell queen and her kg brother.

To confess, I’m not great at drawing eren.

Despite the amount of times I had drawn him, I still don’t fully get him. It could be that I’m too dumb or too much of a casual fan for deep analysis, but AOT has failed to conclude his character for me.

To me Eren is a deeply traumatized individual who failed to mature. He’s a self-righteous man child. But there’s also some ancient evil yadayada messing with his head that isayama couldn’t clear up it up for me, so at this point I still don’t know why eren committed rumbling.

Interestingly, this shows in my art HAHA.

Most of my eremin art is seen from armin’s POV, eren remains either a mystery or partially seen. Eren from Armin’s POV works better in my drawings bc he’s an incomplete character, a huge mystery even, he makes no sense to me sometimes, but above all he’s a symbol of doom and rage.

(“POV” is rather vague in illustrations esp when a lot of them can be objective. To me POV applies when the drawing leans toward one character’s bias, feelings, and how they see things.)

i thought about this recently, and for quick background, in my genshin lore i am from sumeru. i am best friends with all the sumeru boys + nilou, candace, collei, and dehya ^_^ but i am esp best friends with kaveh <3 i am an interior designer so often we work closely together on projects.

i eventually travel to liyue to explore interior design and architecture there. while exploring liyue harbor, i run into a small child crying and it turns out to be teucer (pulling straight from the story quest LMAO) who is distressed because he can’t find his brother >_< ! i try my best to help him and thankful the people involved with the northland bank recognize teucer and take him there.

a day passes and i am exploring the harbor again. then suddenly a tall man comes up to me and has teucer in tow. childe introduces himself to me after teucer has pointed me out as the ‘nice lady who saved me’. he makes teucer apologize for giving me trouble and apologizes again himself. i tell him it was really no trouble at all.

childe being childe insists on thanking me somehow so he asks to take me out for dinner.

he is very forward and obviously can be pretty flirty, but at first i just see it as him being nice for saving his brother. nothing more. but as time passes and we spend more time together, it drives him crazy that im not picking up on his advances and cues. so eventually, he bluntly confesses his feelings to me.

i think me being shy and reserved draws him near me, idk how to explain :0 like he is just interested in getting to know me more. he finds me getting flustered to be cute. also admires how i am with teucer and is fond of people getting along with his siblings. also likes that im a bit snippy and will challenge things he says. he is a sadist,,,

what draws me near to him is the way he is confident and cares sm about his family. i admire him for how observant and perceptive he is ^_^. also finding out how much of a malewife he is shocks me since that isn’t seen often in guys, LMAO.

i would say it is slow burn. it takes me awhile to open up to people, but childe is understanding and patient. always reassuring that he really is into me bc i have doubts (lol). but he is so kind that it is easy to believe.

i think there were probably a few ups and downs once finding out he’s a harbinger. he’s scared that i think of him differently but i just tell him that i only see him as ajax and some title doesn’t necessarily define him (might be controversial to say). it makes me mad that he is wreckless as he is, but i know he’s a great fighter and strong so i believe in him.

i would say once as an established couple we find a way to overlap interests (working out together, cooking together, i crochet him a scarf, and he of course tells me all about his family and traditions, i tell him about sumeru, etc). we make the most of our time since he is very busy ^_^

Don't know if this is covered, but why was Nerevar left behind when his uncle left Kogoruhn?

i actually am gonna cover it soon! but im eager to talk about it so. spoilers under the cut

while they were staying in kogoruhn nerevar basically became voryn's official playmate. that is a fancy official friend for nobles. esp since voryn's brothers can sometimes be a lot older than him so morvanni thought it would be good for him to have a friend he's close to (and also bc she could see nerevar was a clever little shit and that would be good for voryn to learn too)

nerevar's uncle nelvon meanwhile uh... well. nerevar's father was a nord and his mother a chimer. she had returned to their hometown ready to wait for her lover to contact her after he had to return to skyrim for a while to settle some inheritance bullshit. and the months turned into years, she had baby nerevar, and when nerevar was a child her lover's brother (nerevar's other uncle) came and found her to confess her lover was dead. and gave her his old journals.

upon that happening she kinda just. packed her stuff up and left. didn't say a word. just left the journals (her lover's and her own) behind with a note that she wasn't coming back.

nelvon tried not to resent nerevar. he knows its not nerevar's fault. but he had to watch his sister just kind of waste away in depression of her lover not returning. when nerevar started getting older it was also clear he was part nord, something house mora frowned upon (their policy you will find is 'every mixed human-chimer child should be killed or sold into slavery which a lot of ppl did not follow), and he confronted her over it and that made their already strained relationship much worse. to him, her relationship with a nord is what led her to spiral and eventually leave to just go die out in the wastes somewhere. and as much as he doesn't want to, subconsciously he sees nerevar as a sort of representation of that relationship being a literal product of it and resents him

and he knows it's wrong. which is why when he found out nerevar was voryn's playmate he decided to just. kinda leave him there. he made sure it was alright with morvani and everything. to him it was the best thing he could do for nerevar--with voryn he'd have an education, a better chance at a different job, and a better life overall. meanwhile coming with nelvon all nerevar would get his more resentment and blame for something that isn't his fault from his own kin and other people from their town who knew his mother. he knew he wasn't the best person to raise and take care of nerevar, so he left him in the care of people who could

of course though nerevar is going to be upset at this. sure, he'd have a better life with voryn, but that doesn't mean it wasn't still abandoning him. he could have sent letters. he could have at least pretended to care. why come up to him and dump all this on him when he already forgot because he got amnesia (at least as the cover story)? it certainly isn't for nerevar's sake, because if it was he wouldn't have just cut off all contact.

it's a complicated situation im looking forward to getting into because. i don't think nelvon was in the wrong for leaving him behind at kogoruhn. he was in fact correct. he recognized he wasn't the best person for nerevar and found someone who was better suited for the task. and nerevar is also not in the wrong for feeling abandoned by one of his only surviving family members because yes, nerevar wouldn't have wanted to leave with him and would have wanted to stay with voryn, but that doesn't mean he had to just. drop all contact and act like nerevar was dead or didn't matter to him.

also his mom may or may not be actually dead i havent decided yet HA HA

lighter and princess gown (novel) by twentine SPOILERS AHEAD

so, bcs I'm obviously deprived of l&p contents I decided to read the original novel which still doesn't have an official english translation yet (the one I found stopped translating at ch 36 years ago), so i just used google translate from the original book in chinese (which was a mess bcs of that, but I was that desperate). twentine's book itself is exceptional. although my interpretation might be wrong because of the translation, I got the gist and found major differences from the show, so if you've read the book and you're fluent or native in chinese, please cmiiw.

read ahead if u don't mind spoilers:

1. the show romanticised li xun's character so much more than the original li xun from the book. (STOP READING HERE IF U WANNA KEEP HIS IMAGE FROM THE SHOW). if u think li xun in the show was cold as a fridge, he's the whole antartica continent in the novel. and he didn't treat zhu yun nicely, he was actually rather harsh to her not only verbally, but also physically (he tend to pinch her neck and waist and intimidate her in a way that made me uncomfortable)

2. the book tried to justify his character through his family upbringing, which was much more unfortunate and miserable than in the show. he was a bastard child and was bullied, basically was a puching bag of the family, esp. his step brothers. his dad was a total dick. other than his miserable, dying birth mother, li lan (his step-sis) was the only one who treated him like a human.

3. he was sexist and he literally laughed while telling people that he only like chicks with IQ lower than 60. he fooled around those women a lot. it's probably to brought up that zhu yun was the antithesis, but I dunno. it still doesn't sit right with me how he derogate women.

3. his titular lighter name was actually not bcs he had an emotional attachment to his father's lighter, but rather bcs he's a heavy smoker thus he brought a lighter with him everywhere he goes. (zhu yun was a smoker as well bcs of her trauma regarding xiaoyan, fang zhi jing, and her mom)

4. until the end, he never got zhu yun's parents' approval (and it's not bcs he cheated on exams like in the show, zhu yun's mother was just judgmental af for no actual reason at all - before li xun proved her 'right' by going to prison)

5. they did the deeds right after the confession.

6. fang zhi jing was the main villain until the end, gao jianhong just wasn't as significant as in the show.

7. they had 3 kids, and although it's not shown, it's implied that his character indeed became warmer over time.

Redrawing ocs from my resurrected original story

2020? - 2023

I rly used to have a shoujo drawing style up until a few years ago

Anyway I have been an active weeb since I was born p much, who actually learned Japanese (on my own, I could understand some of N3 level Japanese but it’s all evaporated off now) and loved kanji esp and I actually learned the strokes and to write lol. Apparently I can still write with my own hands Japanese characters (technically Chinese also but yeh, the strokes are sometimes different).

How far I’ve gone tbh

A pretty boy with a kinda nasty heart.

Child of a broken home, but he doesn’t care much about it. Since his mother works outside town a lot, usually it’s him and his sister at home. His sister is such a bad cook so usually he takes over.

He inherited a certain blood disorder from his mom’s side of family that his sister also has, but Shusaku’s is a bit more severe. Due to his condition he is pale and can’t be under the sun for too long (convenient! He often uses his sickness as an excuse to miss PE). Since he and his family have moved back to the town where his grandparents used to live, he and his sister are being taken care of by a family friends who have been family doctors for generations.

Anyway, Shusaku is a pretty normal dude at least appearance-wise. He goes to school, he reads manga (and occasionally gravure magazines), he doesn’t go to any club, he does house chores. He is pretty smart but it’s balanced out by his laziness. He might be kinda nasty at heart but he doesn’t go out of his way to hurt ppl, only that he ultimately looks out for his own interests first. He is aware of many things and not abt the others but he refuses to have those concerns dictate his life. He appears pretty stoic and nonchalant.

His maternal family is the typical rich family of a small town. The Kokujou family made their riches by being landowners. They were not very rich these days but they are still influential enough in the town. Shusaku doesn’t have a lot of relatives bc many of them died at young age due to the blood disorder, but his great grandmother and one grandparent are still alive.

Shusaku’s sister, Hinako who is only 11 months older

Unlike the lazy Shusaku, Hinako is a model student who is esp ambitious and stubborn. With her beautiful face, kind personality and good grades, she is a star at school.

Receives love confession from schoolmates all the time, but there is only one person who exists in her heart.

Both siblings are insanely good looking like models, and they can pass off as twins. Tbh the whole family is known to be really good looking.

Their father will be absent the whole story I guess, haven’t really decided. Anw the divorce was prompted by many problems found in the Kokujou side of family, enough that Dad felt like he didn’t want to deal with whole lot of them anymore.

Shusaku in time would find out what kind of issues exist in his family, if he isn’t aware of some of them already.

This is just my theory on Mai, Naru, and Gene's relationship as far as the manga goes.

At the end of the manga,Mai realizes she had been in love with Gene the whole time and NOT Naru bc she preferred dream Naru above all else.

In the sequel manga, Mai is kind of indifferent towards Naru, she kinda just sees him as a friend/boss/ someone who has experienced the same loss as him (ie. Losing Gene). Maybe it was just bc it was only 1 case and seemed a bit convoluted, they just seemed like coworkers bickering once in a while like old friends. I personally believe she had stopped having feelings for Naru once she realized she loved Gene not him.

Which brings me to my next point. The author says Mai and Naru would get together in the future but she was not interested in writing romance.

I believe that after years of working with Naru and getting used to his quirks, I think she would grow to love him once more. This time seeing him as Naru and not mistaking him for someone else. Vice versa I believe that Naru would start to love Mai seeing as he already enjoys her company. He's always worrying about her bc she's still a novice and always manages to find trouble. But also she is incredibly gifted and seeing as her powers continue to grow he would definitely be more invested in her as an asset. And they would spend a lot more time together, Mai would emotionally mature and calm down to the point she can have a normal convo w him without yelling and just overall become a professional in her own right.

So yeah basically I think they would both start to realize they have feelings for each other but given how they are still teenagers when we last see them, I think they are still far away from being emotional capable of confessing.

I would say mid 20s at the very least.

Bc when it comes to Naru, he's not very vocal as far as we have known him, and even Lin has known him as a child and he's always been reserved and not interested in love. I just think he would become so comfortable with Mai and sharing his thoughts with her that she would be a safe space for him, esp since they're both orphans and have losses important ppl in their lives. I see them leaning on each other for support. And ideally it's my headcanon that she eventually gets taught how to become a perfect medium that she and Naru would literally be the definition of a power couple. Do you have headcannons on Jerry/Rick?

haha, i have many tbh! nearly 9 years in jerrick shipping would do it to a person! some of them, i’ve listed here. that was a fairly old ask, but it’s still accurate. no matter how much time passes, i cannot unseen rick & jer sniffing each other’s clothes like weirdos lol.

but moving along to more uh fresh things, weeell:

1). when rick is hammered and can barely move, talk or do anything, jerry is the only fam member, who tends to him. everyone else either pretends like they’re asleep or too busy to do it. jer is a good wife v_v

2). rick is always the one, who fixes things around the house. and opens the jars for jerry, bc his noodle hands weren’t made for this hard ‘mainly’ work. 

3). rick wrote jerry a song, but had never managed to collect any bravery to actually let him know about it. but he sings it to him drunk at times, and jerry has no idea that this song is about him as oddly sweet and offensive as it is. 

4). one time, jerry dressed as a pirate on Halloween and rick was terrified of him for the whole day. jerry used that opportunity to bully him a bit. on a few ocasions, they had matching suits by accident. 

5). once they get together, they have sex everyday. *shrug* it just sounds true to me. they would fuck a lot. hypersexuality is smth, that i see as unseparatable part of jerry’s nature, partly due to his trauma and to how he had never actually fucked with another man. or enjoyed sex. being tied up to some cunt, that you once knocked in 17 sounds so dang sad. and he doens’t even like women thhtfhh. so like double sad. jerry deserved better. so give him some huge old dick. every day of the year. 

6). it’s canon, that they go through one another’s belongings, but they also pocket it at times. keeping it hidden, like two creeps. 

7). in a very few rare dimensions, where jerry is female, boths kids are rick’s and not ben’s. 

8). sometimes, both rick & jer leave, abandoning family for one finale time. other times, they live with them, and sometimes, they die together.

9). for the most part, jerry is the only family member, that rick most likely won’t ever make a clone of.

10). they have a similar taste in music, but jerry also loves some older songs. but nonetheless, this is one of a very few topics, where they can agree with one another. or at least, respect each other’s choice.

11). playing with the idea of ‘vagina guy’, rick once gave jer a cunt, only so that he could take his virginity this way and then, restore it back to norm.

12). they would never confess their feelings in a normal way. i don’t think, that jerry can do it, after every reveal about how he felt, always left him just standing there, awkward. miserable. people never quite got him or cared to. and rick is such a commitmentphobe lol. he doesn’t ever truly reflects on how jerry might want/need to hear those things. or maybe, he doesn’t think that it’s necessary.

13). their biggest score at having sex, is like around 6-7 times in one day. it doesn’t happen often. but can be a thing. 

14). rick can talk jerry into doing drugs sometimes. it tends to go badly. 

15). in universes, where beth abandoned her fam/died, rick still comes to live with jerry and his kids. and in set-ups, where summer is the only child, jerry is always a single dad. 

16). semi-canon, but one of pet names, that rick has for jerry is ‘pumpkin’. 

17). if by any chance, they get married in some rare universes, jerry always keeps his last name. it’s most likely a pride thing. 

18). in some universes, they tend to accidently end up killing the rest of the family. it heavily depends on rick & jerry if they will clone them or not. 

19). a few jerrys talked rick into disposing of beth. and sometimes, his kids too. 

20). they’re both jealous lovers, but rick can take it on a whole new level. this is why jerry technically not allowed to have any friends or keep them. esp male friends. 

21). jerry is very good at cooking, rick less so, but he can do jer an apple pie at times. just randomly. even if literally no one asked him to. 

22). in dimensions, where ricks and jerrys are animals, non-sacient ones, all jerrys tend to be mistaken for a female party. when in reality, they just have very small male bits lol. the universe just fucks jerry over, basically. no matter what. 

23). most ricks have a full name. most jerrys are the oposite, and just called jerry. the very few female jerrys, also just called jerry. 

24). if one of them gets sick, you just know that the other will get it too. 

25). jerry eats rick’s food, and rick sips his beer. this is pretty much canon, but still. they have similiar taste in food too, i guess. 

26). once jerry got rick an esp ugly sweater on Christmas, rick said that he hates it, but still wears it sometimes. 

there is more, but tbh, some of my hcs depend on timeline/au or on what exact ricks and jerrys these are. so i guess, this a drop in a sea of hcs lol. hope, that it was enough for now!

Probably biggest misconception is how catelyn is flawed as mother. I dont understand how obviously you can have 5 children to be accurate who are all further apart from you, and some are unsafe and as hostages in KL, other is fighting war and remaining are in home, the home was taken from them which is winterfell after war of 5 kings erupted. Logically talking, takes days and months to reach one place in westeros that by time she would have reached winterfell to be with bran and rickon maybe that time would have been taken by ironborn to reach winterfell when they sacked it. You cannot just say she should be with all her children and starklings and also hope robb wins, and she gets her daughters back and all is well?? Obv so many things and her mistakes which makes her a flawed character happens as result of wrong judgements and then it was impossibility to go back or leave robb. Catelyn assisted robb too a lot in war. Her eldest son did need her as someone near to her because she was TULLY! she and her son needed their support and that of riverrun. She even knew The Freys and made pact with them not mentioning how pact turned out all wrong not bcs of their mistakes only but also freys and boltons betraying and killing them in cold blood which was very unlikely. She is even sent by Robb to deal with Renly and Stannis, hoping she makes them take their crown off and fight to similar cause, then she brings brienne on the way too, and later learns of what happened in winterfell. How does that make her terrible conflicted mother, im sorry? She was doing whatever she could to help her son win war because winning that was their only chance and losing it was their permanent demise. Also she left winterfell and bran alone as people say?? Well why? Because i wonder bran was crippled and was on bed when an assasin was sent to kill him in front of her and that to in their own home, own room. Had it not been for brans wolf they both would have died yet she so bravely wrestled with the assassin as lady. As normal lady with no tactful skills or strength. of course we know later who sent it to kill bran, but her biggest last straw to leave winterfell and go to Ned ( wondering ned is also responsible for more things as in not being coming back home when given the chance 500 times to, to escape Kl, or even ask for forgive of cersei or flee with renly....but he didn't well and left them alone too knowing robb was only elder stark there and...benjen was gone) and she even comes again, back to her home when she sees tyrion, and vows to capture her because again,,,

1) She thought dagger was his we all know littlefinger told her.

2) Now her trusting LF is dumb but why? grrm made him smart and not entirely evil for purpose of telling us too how so many ppl including tyrion and cersei are fooled by him for so many times so how was cat and she knew him btw, was supposed to mistrust him, lets say even if she is somewhat naive and made mistake in this matter? Ned even trusted him. And so many. It was definitely not mistake as people push on the fact that trusting her fathers former ward who also loved her, in foreign land was dubious

3) And she still gave tyrion a trial. this makes jamie also very grey for killing ned's men, a stark, and HAND OF the king at that time openly in place, Also tyrion was suspected again which is told since dagger could have been his was made up lie by LF. infact most od jon arryns story was all a lie by LF,,, but we did not know that neither did she

And setting tyrion free, brought her back to her son's war and ned getting beheaded although i do not remember all timelines but before robb is announcement as king in the north, she even urges them all to vow and make peace and get her DAUGHTERS back. So ppl who think she was more of mother to sansa and not arya is another misconception. This is mostly used by extreme antis and others to turn them against one another when half of the diff bw them arya and sansa are result of mistake and negligence by both ned and cat and even septa mordane! Yet it is all a child's matter....arya and sansa learn a lot through their journeys about importance esp arya, of importance of having a wolf pack and not just lone wolf. Catelyn herself confessed how arya was so difficult and different not in negative way!! but to define her traits that she was always playing, in a mess "half a wolf pup, half a girl" is clearly not said as a terrible statement towards a daughter. She thinks sansa on the other hand is very sensitive and sentimental which she was, and there is nothing wrong with her being a conventional lady however she no longer believes in so many fairytales even, and arya defying the norm of being feminine lady for which you almost must be dressed as lady. Catelyns worries for her daughters and them being so apart was literally a mothers worry backed by toxic mindset and patriarchal values. Yet even then she like most mothers, never thought of only marriage and children as fate of her daughters which for e.g tywin treating cersei; only as beautiful gem of daughter to get excessive betrothals and better claim of lands and titles via her daughter only.

Ned and Cat didnt even had their daughters betrothed which was disadvantage in far sight but also kind of how their approach on their children were. Rickon was too small and definitely last of her children. Bran was precious to her not because he was bran....but because he did lose his legs and was about to get killed which made him wonder what bran did or knows which led to such vivacious attack. How is that being unequal to your children. Similarly her thoughts on arya and sansa are both realistically embodying the nature of two very different sisters. She LED JAMIE FREE to trade her daughters. SHE KNEW most likely arya was dead yet she still did it definitely not to get sansa only back but as diminishing hope for exchange of both her daughters. Long before she got to know arya might have been dead , just like bran and rickon, THEN obv her worries shifted from one child to the only alive kids she had: Robb and Sansa. Sansa was betrothed to Tyrion. And Robb was leading a war. Yet she still impulsively and as they said " a plight of mother" released jamie. Surely does make her a conflicted worrisome and passionate mother - not just to her some few children only.

Throughout acok and asos, there isn't single thing that means to describe her resentment and unequal treatment of children. Catelyn's upbringing had an effect too. Her mother died too young, she was left as woman on mercy of a terrible father in my opinion and an uncle who did love her and comforted her! She was even married to someone she didn't see. She is or did have conventional mindset about marriage and children. Her entire thing to ned and her children were embodiment of Family, duty, honour. A lot of other ppl in asoiaf aren't really always tied intrinsically and loyally to families esp ones whose families have been terrible to them. Duty is another important thing. She never even asked Ned for Jons mother purely as duty yet her outburst on young child is definitely worthy of criticism. She and Cersei in a way had both same kinds of husbands in different ways, and yet both used diff ways to climb a male dominated society - and both have different way of loving children even and a different demise (so far as we know cersei is still alive)

Quite frankly I think you should be able to say he’s an asshole if you want. Unreservedly. There is no debt to a man defending a woman from another man for one thing. It is expected every person defend another against rapists that’s the floor, not the bar for debt. And especially not when it’s almost a given he’s doing it protecting his property/dibs ... I feel bad saying it in a way because I don’t want to act like I know everything about it but also child porn?? Fetishising your age regressing?

To speak to my own experience my relationship with my dad is complicated. He defended me against so much. Effectively and with passion. I would be dead without his defense. But he also had specific ideas about what “I” was to be ... so was it really me he defended? Or His Obedient Daughter? Did he even know or see me? The answer is yes and no. The situation is as I said and he was truly corrupted by it. But also despite everything even someone fully embracing the life and mind of an oppressor is human. They have qualities and interests and will be gentle and kind at times. They can relate to your humanity and feel love and express it truly and feel entitled possession and rapidly, regularly, lose all sense of your humanity too. So then you’ve got yo defend yourself. But when you do suddenly it’s the human person looking back at you asking why you’re so hateful and bitter, so ungrateful, why not give peace a chance? Maybe it was you who made him bad. And on and on. When I think of what makes people on the receiving end of these relationships “crazy” I think of that.

im in a weird like back & forth on my own situation, sometimes i recognise he was wrong regardless of what good he may have done and feel an anger towards him. other times i feel guilty and like i should cut him some slack bc he was a teenager too, and teenagers are dumb and naive and maybe just maybe he didnt know better. since im also open about it, people on here will use aspects of this situation to place me as the bad guy and position me as a liar trying to make people think hes a bad person when hes just a poor wittle guy that got corrupted by me (and then on another hand there are people who take my story and change it up a bit saying i was groomed by an adult pedo), which doesn't help me process the situation fully & move forward from it tbh. but yeah theres things i know are clearly wrong now, such as him fetishising my age regressing (i was so dumb back then that when he confessed that to me, i was like "ohh u know thats a thing in bdsm called ddlg!" which resulted in him getting into that n roping me in) or the child porn stuff (his story was that he had a strange app on his phone, he opened it, saw horrific child porn and he was so shocked he kept scrolling and within a few minutes he was caught by US authorities and paid a fine for viewing child porn or sth. i first talked 2 someone about it years later and they basically told me thats not how it works and that he must've been looking on multiple occasions & for a prolonged period). he'd also get me drugs and would ask the dealers for something that'd make me want to have sex with him, which he would admit to me later on if his plan failed. so many red flags n looking back this was still good bc, as i said, he did stand up for me against my rapist. and he didnt like outright rape me. and i was so desperate for some sort of support that i felt obligated to him in many ways. at least now i have enough self-respect that im not willing to be with somene out of obligation/duty/fear/etc and rather bc im into them, and i certainly understand now that theres better ways 2 protect myself from SA than just 'dont say no'......but that wasn't always the case.

i can relate to what u said about ur dad and ive faced the same w many people in my life, esp the thoughts of "maybe i made this person bad" but ur definitely right. even the worst person is human and has some good to them and i struggle to understand that still.

why you should watch douluo continent

the drama adaptation is such a good rendition of “soul land” and stayed true to the plot line and character development. it was fast-paced (perfect for me) but may be confusing for those who don’t know the story. i personally love the donghua, and i think the drama did an adequate job of portraying everything in their own way 😁 (read at your own discretion; this contains spoilers)

things i liked:

initially, i didn’t like the dreamscape bc wtf is it doing there? why is he hearing his mom’s voice in episode 1 (it just kills the entire momentum of the plot); and then after i got to episode 39... fucking ep. 39, i knew the dreamscape needed to be there in order to save tang san’s life; mr. wang who wrote the script, props to you.

the cgi 🥰✨ i had really low expectations bc if there’s shitty cgi like cql... i wouldn’t be able to handle it. but it’s so good ??? please, i know the ape soul beast was small and funny looking (bc they had to spend money on the water dragon lmao), but other than that, it was so good and how each and every character’s powers were able to shine

le outfits + makeup - they’re not super pale 😭😭😭 finally !!! and the outfits are so nice, SO SO NICE, each and every character holy hell

how they changed hu liena’s (aka. qian renxue) role in the drama --- she’s my fav female antagonist; she’s so good here, her character was annoying at first, but she’s so dynamic and independent, and just wants to impress her mom. you see her helping tang san + his squad during the last 5 eps because SHE CARES about her mom despite her strict upbringing 🥺 her and tang san have a ship name called 糖葫芦 (candied hawthorns) and i think that’s so cute hehe

the seven devils 😂 i loved the seven devils in this adaptation almost as much as i loved them in the donghua; each and every character got their own storyline, they’re not boring nor do they draw attention away from the tang san’s main plot, and you see so much development (esp. in ou sike and dai mubai)

headmaster, da shi, and er long trio! 黄金铁三角 iconic and they captured it so well 😭 they chose the actor for the headmaster so freaking well i’m screaming! he loves money so much and his little facial expressions as a third wheel is everything, the comedic relief! and da shi... i see y’all thirsting over calvin chen okay 😌 he’s so much better in the drama tbh & er long is majestic and amazingly powerful and cunning, i love her !!! and props to luo san pao, the best doggo ever!

the seniors! they basically perfected tang san’s relationship with dugu bo... it was antagonistic at first, but then they became besties over poison 😭❤️ i loved dugu bo’s character in here bc he was so funny & didn’t get social cues LMAO // the ape soul master was brief but he honestly made my day with how much he respected the tang family & how he took care of his father back in the day // 七宝琉璃 squad was also 🥰 (less hot than in the donghua lol) but they also somehow made jian yeye the comedic relief? i love how they’re so accepting of ou sike despite him being a support soul master

tang san’s mom - i can only hear her voice, but she made me cry & i love her for that

tang san ❤️❤️❤️ xiao zhan’s voice over just blended in with his character & it was just so wonderful; tang san in the donghua was smart, so fucking smart, cunning, but the kindest at heart; xiao zhan truly portrayed that and my most memorable part was when da shi said “your only flaw is that you let your emotions get the best of you” (this is so important), and you see him later try to control his emotions and not act rashly, especially when confronted with 时年 & 比比东 --- also crying scenes 11/10

bibi dong powerful, POWERFUL WOMAN, props to her voice actress, i got chills when she said, “你根本没有资格知道” // tang hao, wow he’s just like i imagined, but i wish he was a little more emotional in ep. 1 bc the blue silver plant in tang san is essentially his lover’s martial soul

how the concept of family was generated within the shi lan ke academy squad 🥺 it’s such a feel good drama, istg, makes you so happy when you’re having a bad day ✨

xiao wu’s character portrayal (the scriptwriter’s fault, not xuanyi) // i honestly let it slide for the first 10 episodes bc i usually start falling for a character later on, it’s normal; but drama xiao wu didn’t fulfill the 小舞姐 in my heart 😔 i get that many people like her, but it’s not the same! xiao wu in donghua is beautiful, independent, and outspoken, BUT MOST OF ALL HER LOVE FOR TANG SAN IS OBVIOUS, you don’t need to say “一起去” every other line in the drama; i think this could have been remedied if they stayed true to the storyline and let tang san enter the secret dimension alone, bring the mythical herbs back, and have xiao wu prick herself to activate 相思断肠红 (they completely butchered the significance of the flower i’m so angry; fyi: the flower can only belong to you if your heart loves one person --- there’s the most beautiful backstory to the flower but drama douluo said nah). also, drama xiao wu is so clingy and she started exposing herself from the beginning... no momentum build-up whatsoever 😔 it’s 斗罗大陆, not 斗罗大陆: 小舞传 and sometimes it felt like she was being so insistent on following tang san around, i’m just 😓 

the whole canghui academy scheme --- it was confusing for 10 eps straight until they got to the end of it, but I guess the drama wanted to add that part in because they wanted to focus less on the competition and more on 变异武魂 (the mutated martial souls) in order to defeat bibi dong

how the beginning was so confusing 😫 i wish they just stuck with child tang san remembering his past life as a disciple in tang clan & then learning 玄天宝录 on his own bc that was such a great part of his character development + understanding of soul masters/their weaknesses; and the fact that he would rely less on his parents 

the kiss + confession at ep. 40 // could have done w/o it or even a simple forehead kiss; the confession from tang san was way too quick considering there’s little to no emotional build-up towards that moment (other than bibi dong doing all the work like the queen she is) and there’s no surprise element either? like we’ve been knew she’s a soul beast since ep. 5 🥲 and the kiss was awkward & like i said, sanwu’s love doesn’t need words or actions to confirm... it’s this innate thing that the audience should be able to see (if the scriptwriters focused a little more on BIG plot points that boost the sanwu relationship, then it would have been perfect) ^^ i wish they spent more time on the romantic aspect of the relationship bc even after 30 eps, they seem like siblings when OP said They’re Not.

overall thoughts:

this is purely my opinion, so please take it with a grain of salt! the cons imo were minor except for the development of the sanwu relationship; it doesn’t seem like romance to me 😔 but hopefully it’ll get better in the (maybe) second season when they take some time apart to grow? i’m surprised how much they referenced the original story (characters and such), and i am thoroughly impressed with WHERE THEY ENDED IT, and how they rounded all the new/old plot points together in a way that makes sense. i also don’t hate any of the antagonists, which is why this drama is so lighthearted and easy to watch. it’s not emotionally taxing (sans tang san crying bc xz breaks me heart 😭💕), and safe + enjoyable to watch with family! you’re gonna miss it once it ends, and i think that makes a drama successful 😁 also i’m not gonna go into depth about the mysterious ending bc i might spoil it for those who want to watch the donghua LMAO (but if you want to know my theories, shoot me an ask)

What's your opinion on different interpretations of Light and L's characters? By saying that i mean how they were portrayed in DN Drama, Musical (let's take Japanese version) and Movies.

Personally I find the most interesting interpretation of Light in the Drama, bc he's more soft and sympathetic. I'm not saying that I would prefer him to animanga!Light (animanga!Light is still the best), but at least it's something new and fresh (also, i absolutely LOVE the scene where Souichiro learns that his son was Kira all along and Light is just split bc he can't decide whether he wants to be Kira or wants his father alive and the scene is absolutely gut-wrenching I would sell my soul for it). If we speak about Japanese musical, I don't get Light's character here? In his first song ("Where's the justice?") he sings about unjust world and how everything is "just law, not law and order, but in the next song ("Hurricane") he already sings that he's the god of brend new world? I mean, his motivation moves from "wants to help innocents" to "wants to be god bc of boredom" kinda quickly? And DN Movies, well.... They certainly made Light darker and i don't like the fact bc it feels they made him darker so he could contrast with softer L.

Speaking of L, again, the best version is animanga version and we all know it 🛐. But I think I love his interpretation in Musical too? I love these songs that show us his thinking process and I love the fact that in Musical L and Light seem to obsess over each other like in canon (yk, bc they always sing about how it would be like to see the world through other's eyes etc.). I find Drama!L to be veeeeeeeery fan-servicy, but he's still entertaining, especially when the show allows him slow scenes where he doesn't have to take his shirt off 50 times during the dialogue, but instead speaks about his ideology or relationships with other people (scenes with Near, Yagami Souichiro, Light (esp the one where he tries to make him confess). As for Movies!L, well... I just don't like him. Neither L nor Light are the embodiment of good or justice but the creators made it seem like Light is absolutely evil and L is absolutely good and this pisses me off. L lets Misa Amane go free after Rem's death even though Misa killed tons of people and he tells Souichiro that he was sorry that he couldn't save Light so I presume that he would have let him go too (even if he wouldn't, it's still dumb, bc he let Misa go). Also fans are like "awww look at him giving a candy to a crying child he would've been such a great father". I mean, I'm not against making characters softer or kinder, but even in the animanga, where L tortured people and sacrificed criminals, there's still a huge L fanbase that sees him as a completely good guy. And by making Light darker and L kinder they as well could have said "yep, we have a villain and a hero, they are complete oopposites". Idk I just don't get it.

Hi hello! I have only seen half of the j-drama, watched the anime twice, watched the musical once, and saw the Netflix movie when it first came out. And I never really liked any of them nearly as much as the manga, so that's why I always sound like a broken record about it on this blog 😆 I just think the manga is by far the best-written, funniest, saddest, and prettiest-looking version all at once.

The drama might actually be my favourite alternate version Light as well out of all the things I've seen too, because that adaptation was also funny/entertaining and sometimes sad, and it often surprised me in a good way. And yeah, drama!Light was like an entirely different character, and maybe that's why he was more interesting and sympathetic to me than just a more watered-down/cardboard version of the original complicated manga guy. I find Light often gets turned into a privileged Mikami sort of character in adaptations, rather than the oddly-chill-at-times one with the weird sense of humour he was in the manga to me. And L is just almost always made more cartoony and goofy and/or emo and somehow cast in a heroic light while simultaneously still being a shady dude in everything he does, so I haven't ever really liked L in anything else very much. I do often hear people like musical!L a lot. And I feel like a wet blanket especially when talking about the musical in the fandom, because I just didn't really like it or feel particularly moved by it most of the time. Especially when it came to L and Light and the Lawlight aspect of stuff, which was boring and lacking in chemistry to me. I found most of it too sincere and serious and somber to be entertaining, as DN easily becomes extremely tedious to me when most of the dark/goofy humour and ironic slyness is sucked out of it like that. I feel a lot of adaptations focus so heavily on Lawlight that it actually gets boring to me too, even though it's also my favourite ship. It's a bit hard to explain, but I prefer Lawlight to almost be left as this curious little unspoken background thing going on in addition to all the other interesting stuff, rather than featured as this big, obvious central element of the plot. At least outside of fanmade stuff.

My next favourite version of DN overall after the manga is definitely the anime, simply because the voice acting and soundtrack is so good. But even that is still like "why the heck would you watch the anime when the manga is right there??" to me most of the time... 😆
