it was only a matter of time, before i would have made another crossover with those two. i can't deny, that they are very 1:1 for me, when it comes to comics supervillains. so why not to mix one awesome n' beloved thing with another? esp since funny enough, they do have quite a few similar plot-points. well, the halloween themed costume aside. i mean it goes as far as jack once having the bat-themed boyfriend pal, which reminds me of someone else, i know.

anyho'...

i've tried to make my notes more or less readable here, but they still might be a bit scattered. i attempted to keep them as short as possible, but i just cannot talk 'small'.

1. the first art is low-key based on underdeveloped AU, that i have about the early comic scarecrow n' modern jack meeting n' hitting it off serial killiar style. considering, that both of them possess killing methods, which have a noticable tradmark to it, i imagine that they will leave one hell of a mess behind, while traveling across the country. in that timeline, batman is dead. n' jack's shitty foster dad was killed off earlier on. neither of them knows what to do with themselves, since the people who they had *twisted* emotional conection with are gone. without any direction, they meet in the middle, n' decide that they can as well team-up n' try to make being a villain fun again. jon might experiment on their victims *or torture them if its his ex bullies* n' then give them to jack, who would scoop their brains out and put candle inside their skull. n' uh yeah, he literally did it in the comic. i was honestly surpised that marvel come up with smth that creepy. it really sounds more alined with dc, if anything. but either way, here they are. two *grieving* psychos going downtown. they will make one another so much worse, i imagine. n' they will totally kill that npc dude btw.

2. dark magic n' the drip. or jon n' jack at their corniest. like, jonathan looks like he watched too much the nightmare before christmas n' jack dress up like count dracula for no reason. it's so random-ish n' cheesy. but with this being said, i love both of those designs, n' think, that they really suit the vibe of comic issues in which they were featured. jack always came off as a he-witch to me, but it was nice to see it being played on in a different way. n' then, crane really rocks his own outfit as well. i totally need to draw him in it more often, haha. they dress up for a halloween party for real this time. n' well, i added batman n' spiderman into the mix here, bc i kinda wish that they got to fight / interact with those versions of jon n' jack. it would have been fun for a few reasons. also this can be technically counted as shipping art, but can be viewed as your typical gloating bad guy n' helpless hero thing too. n' to clear any possible questions, i only create stuff with adult peter parker. like cartoon era/late early comics, 20 smth one. i love my spiderman being of age, where he can legally mingle with his villains, not be detained at school lol.

3. the classic four from the timeline, when the comic plots were a bit more ligthearted. aka during the times, when the deadly mercenary n' crazy scientist were robbing banks, instead of harming *torturing* people. i love dark stuff, but there is charm to how 'simple' the scarecrow's and jack's goals once were. n' i love how the scarecrow used to do the lil, dorky dances. it really suits him. n' since at least 2 or maybe, most of jack o' lanterns are southernish in their roots like jon, i had an idea of them having a country dance *in the middle of graveyard* kinda just makes sense to me, haha. batman and spiderman merely happen to find them like that. n' well, it's kinda awkward. esp bc they technically don't do anything bad. i also imagine spiderman being like 'oh, so you have one of those too'. which is mostly a ref to how both the scarecrow n' jack were called 'the reject from land of oz' by other characters. they can rejoice here.

4. the develish & undead duo!! my friend once told me to try n' watch older superhero cartoons, and at first i was like 'welp, they prob be hella boring'. but then i caved in, n' watched a couple of superfriends episodes. as result, i fell in love with their scarecrow's desingh! it was unexpected tbh. usually, i prefer jon's older, classic scarecrow look. so no straw hair, less features exposed, just a hat n' a sack on his head, but their version of him actually did it for me. i find their crane both creepy n' cute. n' i also read on wiki, that he might be undead. so that bit interested me as well. non-human jonathan crane, what a concept! him returning from the grave just to be a menace to batman. n' to accompany him, there is an undead jack o' lantern from the ghost rider comic. his corpse literally got possessed by satan. anyways, both of them raised army of zombies. both of them undead n' prob won't ever get out of their spooky suits, since i don't think that they can. n' funny enough, jack's hometown was called sleepy hollows, if i remember correctly. so they can haunt people there, make it into a truly cursed land.

5. the last one was kinda spontaneous on my part. the other day, i was looking at what kind of action figures the scarecrow n' jack have. saw one, where jon was looking kinda strange, all black n' yellow. which is how i find out that he *apparently* got yellow lantern powers in newer comics, even if it was like for 10 seconds or smth. i didn't read the issue itself, but i found the idea kinda fun, n' his design was decent enough for me to get interested n' wonder what i can do with it. then, a bit later, i saw that jack had a venom-funko figure. i don't think, that he was ever canonically venomized in any of the actual comic issues, but once again, the mere idea of it happening was enough for me to consider doing smth with it. i mean, a venom-like tongue, but its made out of fire? dang. that's kinda cool. so yeah. the yellow lantern scarecrow n' symbiote jack o' lantern being the double trouble. if they weren't enough of a mean goblin-man before, now they surely will be.

see the thing is, i don't mind other ships (though i don't like, actively ship them, but i respect them for existing and can enjoy them at times) as long as they stay in their era of the narrative. like there are many relationships that were important and formative and significant, esp for dean, but i don't think abt them outside of their confines in the narrative. they happened, they're past, and i appreciate them for where they exist within the narrative. but i don't think abt say cassie or lisa or benny coming back and suddenly being dean's endgame. by the end of the narrative there's one clear person in dean's life that he treats like a life partner in all the ways that matter, and that's cas. they couldn't let dean live and give him a blurry wife scenario bc it would make zero narrative sense by that point (and would've been a massive slap in the face to cas and his confession). it's why when at that one con where the topic of who dean could've ended up with came up and someone in the audience shouted "lisa" jensen, amused and affronted, went "LISA??!!?" because, absolutely nothing against her but, it would make no sense for dean at that point in the narrative. he's moved past that relationship and others. by the s15 he's been celibate for years, no longer portrayed as the "ladies man bachelor" (which was largely a front anyway). he's settled comfortably into domesticity and embraced the family he has, and in all way besides explicitly seeing them kiss cas as settled into the role of life partner / spouse / love interest. so, to make a serious non-shitpost-y post about this, this is why i am big destiel. not because i hate other ships but because, for me at least, there is no other logical conclusion by that point in the narrative. there is no one else in the role of love interest for dean, and dean has no interest in pursuing other people either. they are it for each other. and they killed dean, no doubt for other reasons too but partly because there is no other 'epilogue' of a life they could give him that would make sense without cas there too.

anyways i appreciate other ships for where they exist in the narrative and their purpose at the time. but the beauty of destiel is that it doesn't hinge on just one time or era. it stretches and spans over 12 yrs. and beyond. continuing to grow and evolve. it's forever.

It was hard. Watching him from a distance this way. Holding yourself back knowing you were not part of the band nor part of their inner circle and truly have no chance. And that is already ignoring the fact that you don't even get to work with Aphelios alone much, he doesn't sing and you worked on that side of things so the only times you really see him at the studio is when he is working on stuff with you or for a photoshoot like now.

Wincing, you watch Sett pick your crush up. Aphelios' arms flailing in annoyance, gently resting on the taller man's chest as he visually shows how he demands to be let down. The giggles and chuckles of other staff and band members just made your heart ache all the more. You scoff, turning to walk away to spare yourself anymore of their cute interactions. You know, just looking at this scene, exactly why everyone thinks they're a couple. How could they not. Even you couldn't deny how cute the interaction was, how you wish you were the one holding Phel close.

The excited comments of " How cute!" and " I ship Settphel so hard." from other people working in the studio just rubbed salt into your wounds. The only solace in that, was at the very least, maybe it meant Phel swung that way and you'd have a chance. But against Sett? What could you do, if his type was big buff men, you were out of luck yet again. You let out a dry laugh as you leave the studio to take a break, not noticing Aphelios' gaze tracking you as you hurry out.

Get some air, yeah, you'll be fine if you grab a snack and pretend you saw and heard nothing. You'll be fine, this was what it was like loving Aphelios. This was alright.

So here you are, moping about it, a drink in one hand and your face in the other. Sitting depressingly with your elbows on the table in an booth far off in the corner of the building's café. If anything, at least it wasn't lunch rush so you could take some time alone. The soft instrumentals of the café's ambient music was somehow making you feel worse.

Thoughts and frustrations were plaguing you so hard you don't hear someone else enter the café, you don't hear them walk over and then sit by you.

It was only until they leaned in close and shoved an open note app on their phone screen under your hands into your line of sight that you jumped, shocked by your personal space getting intruded upon.

[Saw you leave suddenly, are you ok?]

Ah fuck fuck fuck, you know that phone you know that hand.

Looking up to see those god forsaken beautiful ruby red eyes sparkling with concern. You wanted his attention and care but not like this, not when you looked so pitiful, not when you're trying to push down your overwhelming feelings for him.

Offering Aphelios a pained smile you wave away his concern. Silence between you two was thick. It only made your heart sting more. You came here to escape the obvious one sided pinning but with Aphelios here it just made it so much worse.

[It's not really nothing if you're crying...]

Oh were you crying, oh this sucks this sucks. A soft shaky laugh leaves you as you wipe away your tears. Doing your best you try to divert the conversation away from bringing up your feelings.

" Why are you here anyway, you're mid shoot Aphelios. We're not even that close."

You ask him, leaning back into the booth chair. Hands now clasped together, trying your best to hold yourself together.

[I took a break. Wanted to check on you when I saw you run out. You're still my friend you know?]

He looks at you, eyebrows furrowed in concern. How you wish you could reach up and lightly caress that little cut in his brow and tell him its alright, it was just your personal problems regarding him. But you hold yourself back. You bite your tongue, thinking what to say to make all of this better. Recognizing your hesitant attitude he quickly types something else before holding his phone up to you again.

[ You always look out for me when I'm alone and frustrated in the studio, let me do the same for you.]

You pause again, shocked he even remembers all you've done for him.

" I am in love with someone I can't have."

You blurt it out, your own hand rising to cover your mouth. Ah, there was no going back now, this conversation was happening, you did this to yourself.

You see Aphelios freeze up, a flash of heartbreak across his features before it quickly returns to his cool default expression. The click of his neatly trimmed and manicured painted nails against his phone screen was all the more deafening. You should have told the truth.

[ An idol?]

Were you imagining this or was his hand shaky as he held up the phone again.

" An idol...but I think he already has someone so-"

Those damned sparkling ruby eyes looking up at you in hope set your heart off yet again. Why the hell did he have to look at you like that.

Time froze as you whispered it out. The words leaving your mouth before your brain could catch up. The overwhelming feelings pushed you to admit it, to tell him after months of pinning. You were in love with him. You watched of course, the way shock crosses his features. Alright, you've done this before, the disgust would come next. You prepare yourself but it never happens. Instead he moves closer to you. What? He moved clos- You gulp hard, watching him.

Gently and so painfully slow, you watched his hand rise, slowly pulling down his mask. Ah, his lips, slightly pink, looking so soft, lip gloss still evident on the surface from the photoshoot earlier. The way it curls up gently into a smile as he leans in to you. He leans in to you?! He was barely hovering by your ear now. Your breath gets caught in your throat as Phel's soft breaths lightly ghost over your ears before, the softest, raspiest whispers grace your eardrums.

" I love you."

You froze. What else could you do. The shock gripping your heart, leaving you stunned for what felt like an eternity. It was only when Aphelios pulls away from you slowly. His damned, beautiful, ruby red eyes. They lock with yours. Eyebrows furrow just a smidge in concern, hoping he didn't overstep his boundaries, that your earlier comment allowed him the grace of talking directly into your ears. They had of course. You dreamt of this. His lips, once again, you watch, the way it slowly purses into a thin line, you should say something. Leaving him hanging in the same anxiety you have this way is horrible.

" I love you... Aphelios."

Ah it felt good. The way your chest now feels light. To say it out this way. To let your feelings finally escape into the world outside. To no longer stump it down in frustration. The trembling of your hands, the gasp and smile as Aphelios hears you speak.

And everything hits. All at once. Heart thrumming incessantly in your ears. The hustle and bustle of the world outside suddenly all too loud. The hand reaching up to hold your face and pull you close was all so fast. So fast. So soft. So gentle.

The way his eyes flutter close, the way his hands hold your face like you were something precious to him. The way his lips find yours. Just as soft and supple as you imagined all these weeks. His lips find yours. So gentle. So soft. So gentle. So soft. Your head spins as he kisses you. This was amazing, better than you could ever whip up in the private scenarios of your mind when you daydreamed about him from a distance. This was perfect. So perfect.

The two of you gasp as Aphelios pulls away. His lips slightly parted as he breathes slowly. The way it now shines a little from residual saliva from the kiss. Your heart races, you were so sure it has skipped more than a few beats. The whole scene burned into your memory for years to come.

He was oh so beautiful. Aphelios' face breaks into a warm smile. His eyes narrow from the grin, the pink tinge of a blush under his makeup, his hair falling softly around his cheeks. You can't help but smile too, all the endlessly frustrating one sided pinning that led to this was worth it. You sigh, content, pulling him into a hug. You don't hear it but feel the rise and fall of his chest as he laughs, hugging you back tightly as he leans his head on your shoulder. This was right. This was good. This was happiness. This was yours.

hey! can i ask what your thoughts are on sokkaang? why do you ship them?:)

Oh my gosh. Okay, so funnily enough I literally gave a break down to someone yesterday. Sokkaang is my little rare pair gem that I hold close to my heart.

I did write this meta, but that doesn't cover even half my thoughts.

I'll give you the short version first in case you don't want to read my full ramblings:

Sokka is Aang's biggest protector. Aang. The Avatar. Sokka is a nonbender but he don't give a shit bc Aang still needs and deserves protection.

Aang is the biggest believer in Sokka. He thinks all his ideas are genuis, and unironically uses the stupid names he comes up with. He also brings fun to Sokka.

They're smart and wise seperately, but idiots together and I love that. I just think they'd make fantastic partners in all things.

Long Version:

So, I'm a sucker for protective tropes, right? And something that absolutely kills me about Sokka and Aang is that Sokka is a nonbender and Aang is literally the most powerful person on the planet, but it is Sokka who protects Aang. I've always been soft for Aang and more than anything I want good things for him. Too many people throw him at threats, too many people expect great things from him.

Sokka doesn't. He fights Hei Bai for Aang while everyone stands back. He realizes Aang needs them in the Bato episode. His plans to defeat the fire lord are always centered on helping Aang, giving Aang any advantage he can. At this point I'm just repeating my earlier meta BUT

Basically, when I realized this I was just like, "aw, cute friendship"

And then I remembered the fuckin "Toph writes a letter" plan. The two are fucking idiots together. It's hilarious that they affect eachother like this and it's not even like, unrealistic, because of what Aang does for Sokka.

Aang is Sokka's biggest supporter. He usually happily follows Sokka's ideas, he accepts the stupid names Sokka comes up with and uses them unironically. Aang belives Sokka to be a genuis, which means he doesn't question his ideas when they're stupid, he just trusts it's a genuis idea because of course it is, Sokka came up with it. And Sokka soaks that up like a sponge.

People talk about Aang bringing fun to Katara and like, 10/10 I love that, but I feel like it's not talked about as often just how much Sokka changes thanks to the brightness Aang brings. I'm paraphrasing someone elses meta here but I don't remember where I saw it but if you know it lmk, but Sokka literally goes from "You can't fight firebenders with fun" (to which Aang replies "You should try it sometime") to the finale where he gets rid of an entire crew by fucking around all amused at himself. He goes from the most sour character to the joke filled idiot we all know and love. I do believe a lot of that is thanks to Aang's influence.

So, yeah, cute friendship, blah blah, but then I was thinking about post-war them and I realized, despite zukaang being my favorite ship and loving kataang, there's no one I'd rather see travel around with Aang than Sokka. That's always been their dynamic, Aang with the purpose and Sokka with the maps and plans to get it done. I want Aang to be able to continue to rely on Sokka in tough spots, I want Sokka to continue experiencing the world and fun thanks to Aang.

I just don't see Sokka wanting to settle back down and take on the responsibility shoved onto him as a child. He fucking bloomed thanks to being on the road and getting true oppertunities to use his strengths and I want that for him.

And Aang is Not Good at the whole plans and stuff. Sokka is so good at filling the gaps in Aang's abilities and I don't want Aang to lose that. I don't want him to lose the person that says "I don't care if he's the avatar, I'm going to fight his battles with him." I feel like Aang would be lost in some ways without him.

Then I was thinking abt Aang's admiration and belief in Sokka and realized, it wouldn't take much to tip that into a crush, esp for Aang who falls so easily.

And Sokka, we have established, is attracted to people that could kick his ass without ever landing a blow. I can see Tall Aang being Sokka's surprise gay realization.

And I just think, if they were together romantically, it would be so drama free because it would be the epitome of a relationship built on friendship. They'd just be together. No bells or whistles. I feel liked they'd just be chill af about it. They'd love eachother and it'd be as simple as that.

Alr so first let’s talk about the Cyno / Heizou dynamic. I feel like at first glance you’d think “no way they’d get along” but I strongly disagree. Like obviously their personalities are veryyy different BUT they do share the same sense of ‘justice’. Cyno’s job is entirely about hunting down rule breakers but he has his own code of morals as well and Heizou is basically the same!! The both of them are also very in tune with their senses (Heizou has great intuition and Cyno keeps a distance and observes ykwim) so I feel they’d have some unspoken respect for each other!!

I think at first Cyno wouldn’t be super happy about being paired up with Heizou… (to justify them interacting lets just say it’s an important case relating to Inazuma and Sumeru somehow idk) just a gut feeling but he tries to tell himself Heizou is capable since he came here all the way from Inazuma. I feel like he would find him kind of annoying at first LMAO, Heizou always acts so carefree and reckless and that wouldn’t cut with Cyno.

At one point Cyno decided to tell Heizou a joke because there might be some tension and that wouldn’t do well in investigating the case, and when he does… HEIZOU SHOOTS BACK A JOKE TOO??? and like, Cyno is GENUINELY caught off guard which is such a foreign feeling to him. He doesn’t realize it but Heizou can notice the sudden softened and glimmer in his eyes when he replies w/ another joke, and at that point from now they’re basically besties (joking but they would be on much friendlier terms afterwards lol)

Idk I’m just thinking they finished beating the shit out of some Fatui harbingers and it was all very violent and then Cyno turns to Heizou like “Why do we tell actors to get into the cast?” and Heizou is 100% unfazed

Ohhh and they’d definitely play Genius Invokation TCG!!! Heizou would be stupidly good at the game despite psaying it’s his first time playing it and Cyno’s struggling in a game against him but doesn’t try to physically show it. He lowkey thinks he’s cheating but Heizou wouldn’t do that now would he… (extreme sarcasm) jk, maybe he’d do it just to pull Cyno’s leg but wants to rely on his wits and wits only! It’s not reflective of his skills if he decides to cheat, it’s not Heizou’s style

I haven’t even talked about how physically strong they are, like, if you take a quick glance at the both of them they’re pretty unassuming for the most part but MAN they can pack in a mean punch in battle ykwim… Heizou isn’t really one to use his fists (unless there’s no other option) so he just leaves Cyno to wreck havoc on some eremites/lone samurai. But if some poor soul manages to get in a fight with both Heizou AND matra Cyno??? Hope you wrote a will beforehand…

Cyno’s pretty surprised himself with how strong Heizou is, esp since he doesn’t even use his vision most of the time. Heizou doesn’t like to pride himself on it even if Cyno throws a slight compliment his way, if anything he’s more mesmerized by Cyno’s electro-infused fighting style. (He’s compared it to a light novel main character and Cyno’s kind of amused by it lol)

Random scenario where Heizou is swinging around a stick polearm that Cyno gave him to practice and accidentally bonks him on the head with it. That’s it.

I’m referencing ENG Heizou here but about his…flirty mannerisms…luckily for Cyno he doesn’t pull those kind of “stunts” on him, even after he’s learned to be acquainted with Cyno. As said before Heizou is scarily good at reading people to the point he can accurately guess their past turmoils, and right away he knew he’d prob get his ass beat if Heizou did all the stuff he did w the traveler in the hangout event. (iykyk) but he still says stuff like ‘my partner’ etc etc but more in a literal sense without the innuendo (unless there’s a Cyno x Heizou nation out there????)

It’s so silly to think about Cyno conversing with his fellow matra and Heizou just strolls into the Akademiya and spots Cyno and greets him in the most casual and carefree tone… “Cyno? I wasn’t expecting to run into you, partner!” and the matra are VISIBLY confused bcus they aura Heizou is alr emanating is so uncanny and Cyno gives him a casually curt response like they’re good friends

“Same to you, usually outsiders aren’t allowed to enter the Akademiya of all places.” (but like in a playful-ish tone)

“Ooh, outsider, huh? I just got chills, hehe. Need any help with a new case? I’m ready to roll.”

“No need, I’m just catching up with an acquaintance of mine.”

“I see. Hey, if you’re free, let’s say we grab a bite for lunch? My treat!”

Let’s move on to (my personal favourite rare duo) Tighnari and Kazuha. I think I have a bias because out of all my favs Kazuha has a special place in my heart, he lives rent free in my head.

Anyways, they’d definitely get along well. I like how both of them have such a deep connection with nature but like in different ways??? Kazuha is more like, spiritually connected to nature and follows wherever the wind takes him, while Tighnari is connected via his immense knowledge in botany and studying/protecting forest life.

Kazuha was very eager to set out and explore the sights of Sumeru. He’s learned a few droplets of knowledge of the nation from fellow crew mates, so he decided immediately heading off to the desert was way too risky and went to Avidya Forest first. The rainforest was nothing he would have ever seen back in Inazuma, and he couldn’t help but smile at the cute (yet vicious) fungi that floated and waddled along the shallow lakes of the forest.

At times like this, times where Kazuha is left in the audible silence of nature and his own thoughts, is when he plucks a leaf and plays an unnamed song that floats along the winds. Suppose Tighnari was on a forest patrol during this time, and his fox ears picked up a certain sound. Surprisingly, it wasn’t abrasive or hurt his ears, it was quite soothing actually. Was it an adventurer? Tighnari’s first thought was that it’s another reckless person from the adventurer’s guild, so it’d be better to check on them to prevent any future injuries…

Passing through the shrubs and branches, Tighnari was face to face with Kaedehara Kazuha himself. Not like it’s a famous name, despite his family once being part of the Tri-Commissions. He’s a wanderer now, nothing more and nothing less. Tighnari didn’t exactly know what to say, nonetheless do, but all Kazuha did was turn to look at him and give a polite smile.

“Hello there.”

“Oh, sorry, don’t mind me. I’m on a forest patrol, and I heard a sound coming from here.”

“So the wind picked up my song? Heh, Sumeru’s rainforests are quite awe-inspiring, playing a tune would be any ronin’s first thought.”

“Ah, so you’re an outlander…”

“Aplogies, I didn’t introduce myself. My name’s Kaedehara Kazuha, I’m just any wanderer you’d come across in Teyvat.”

“Tighnari, nice to meet you, uh— Kaedehara.”

“No need for the formalities, just Kazuha is fine.”

Kazuha was quite interested in Tighnari’s experimental tests with certain mushrooms, and Tighnari was happy to bring someone along as it’d bring him more accurate results. Normally, he wouldn’t bring any other person to try— I mean experiment— suspicious plants and fungi with him, but Kazuha’s already eaten a few weird things from the forest before, it wouldn’t hurt to bring him along…

Tighnari insists that Kazuha shouldn’t actually eat the mushrooms himself, and to just take notes on the effects; Kazuha seemed to comply happily, fiddling with the pen in his bandaged hand and scribbling notes whenever necessary. When he gave back the notebook to Tighnari, he couldn’t help but notice the absentminded doodles of maple leaves in the corners of the pages. Huh, so Kazuha doodles plants on his paper, too.

Obviously Kazuha was still… curious about trying a mushroom. So after Tighnari confirmed it was safe for human consumption, he threw over a small, roundish mushroom to Kazuha. All it really did was make him act a bit dazed, and Tighnari just kept watch over Kazuha after he ended up falling asleep. These so called “experiments” became less and less analytical and more for… extracurricular purposes, but you guys can fill in the blanks yourselves lol

Kazuha’s willing to hear out anybody and likes it when people are so obviously passionate about a certain topic, so their dynamic would definitely be “never stops talking x listens”. And Tighnari’s constant explanations of forest life and self-aid lectures aren’t totally useless to Kazuha, as a ronin it’s good to be more acutely aware of unfamiliar lands. As well, without Tighnari’s guidance he probably would have stumbled into a withering zone without the proper precautions.

Tighnari isn’t really a ‘creative’ person, much more logical and mathematical about things. He notices that Kazuha likes to daydream in silence sometimes, and seldom ever talks about himself. That’s alright, though, they don’t need to know the inner workings of each other’s past as long as their time is well spent, right?

When Kazuha mentioned he liked to nap in random sunny places in the wild, he accidentally learned that Tighnari is very prone to very long lectures. Luckily for Tighnari, Kazuha managed to get every word without dozing off. Tighnari’s half hour talk can be boiled down to the fact that falling asleep in the middle of the woods isn’t safe, but he doesn’t have to worry too much; Kazuha’s a light sleeper and is incredibly skilled in the sword.

I heard that samurai were equally trained in both the sword and bow, so I think it’d be really interesting if Tighnari invited Kazuha to practice shooting with him? And Tighnari’s very surprised to learn that Kazuha is a crack-shot at archery and could hit all of the targets with scary accuracy; even though Kazuha, being as polite as he is, is more sheepish that he hasn’t practiced his archery since he was a teenager.

Once Tighnari learned that Kazuha had a fondness for maple leaves because of the emotional significance they hold to him, something in Tighnari’s heart would feel… stirred is the word? Kazuha’s musings and way with flowery poetry is easy for even the coldest of people to feel almost a comforting melancholy, and Tighnari’s kind heart is all the more prone to this kind of speech.

Kazuha was very flattered when Tighnari offered him pressed maple leaves as a parting gift before he left. He doesn’t read very often, but it was hard not to pass up the opportunity to use them as bookmarks. Tighnari said he didn’t need to use them out of politeness, but Kazuha sees the small token as another item to commemorate a new friend he’s made on his journeys.

Bestie I think you’re so right about the movie altering Lucy and Coryo’s romance to better convey the themes within the limitations of the medium!

Like it’s actually a huge book! I knew they would have to cut a lot for the sake of run time so I was fully expecting them to sacrifice some of the details that do so much heavy lifting for the deeper themes.

But I was so pleasantly surprised, and I honestly think that preserving the themes must have been a central goal in the production! I was noticing small changes - but they all seemed to serve keeping the major themes in tact?

Like I saw it with my family (who all read thg but not tbosas) and I went in wondering. Like how are they going to make a meaningful, faithful, adaptation of such a large book?? Will my family understand The Themes? And they did!

I think it speaks to Suzanne’s writing ability (her themes are layered throughout every level, so a few cuts won’t gut them entirely) and smart/intentional alterations.

Like you mention with cutting the kiss, I think doing so highlights the transactionality of this moment. Coryo won’t kiss her OR give her the compact until she denounces Billy taupe! Like literally he won’t save her life (do the right thing, like Tigris says) if she’s in love with someone else! Interesting!

But like you say, if they do !finally! kiss (without that monologue) it’s easier to miss how manipulative he’s being in that moment and the importance of it!

I think they made a similar smart choice with being shipped off to 8 - I might be wrong here!! But I’m pretty sure he isn’t ordered to be a peace keeper? He CHOOSES that because he sees it as his only avenue left? (Which I thought was some military industrial complex commentary sprinkled in but now I’m afraid I imagined this whole thing LOL)

So assuming I’m not misremembering - I thought making highbottom force him to become a peace keeper also worked similarly. Like letting him choose that (without the internal monologue) makes his motivations seem genuine when they aren’t fully. So it’s just better for the movie medium perhaps?

ohhhh how i love all of this!! i love you for taking the time to send all this to me -- and thank you for validating my reading of the altered love story!!

and YES i was so pleasantly surprised by how well they managed to maintain a lot of the thematic content of the book, esp because we KNOW how much they gutted it in the original trilogy. i have a couple theories on why: the first is that the filmmakers are devoted readers of my tumblr blog and they understood the importance of preserving the political themes from the novels when adapting them to the screen (ok obviously i am joking.) my real theories are -- the cultural conversation has shifted a LOT since the original films got made, and i think they were more aware and more *able* to be more explicit with so many of those ideas. i also wonder if the act of adapting the story of someone from capitol was easier than adapting someone from district 12 -- there's been much ink spilled over how we, the privileged moviegoers who are watching the film in theaters, are much more like capitolites than we are like katniss herself. and i wonder if that made it easier to adapt -- because one of the big critiques of the thg films is that they really glam jlaw up even when she's in district 12, and it makes scenes like the "remake" scenes kind of lose their power and biting social commentary. whereas with snow, and the capitol, and the games themselves, we're meant to understand that they ARE a facade, and the movie can really lean into that. (side note, my least fav costume in the whole movie was lucy gray's swimsuit. pretty much for that exact reason -- it was too ~perfect~ for the setting.)

to your point about the change with snow deciding vs being ordered to become a peacekeeper -- i honestly couldn't remember either so i went to see if i could find the quote from the book and it's this:

There, arranged on the table like lab specimens, were three items: an Academy napkin stained with grape punch, his mother’s silver compact, and a dingy white handkerchief. honestly i wish i remembered what exactly is meant by "as agreed" but i do think you're right that in the book it's more implied that he doesn't have another choice -- because he didn't win the monetary prize, he has to enroll. so i think you're right that the point is that the idea that it's his choice at all is in question because it's societal pressure and his family's financial status that kind of forces him into the military industrial complex. but i think, because they made this scene so explicit in the film, that you're right that having him be ordered to do it instead of hearing him justify it in his head manages to accomplish what we need it to for the sake of the plot moving forward (if kind of weakening that angle of sc's commentary)

also, here's something to chew on -- i was thinking as i was watching the film if part of the reason some of the changes didn't irritate me so much was because i was more forgiving of the need to shift things around to account for the lack of internal monologue because the book is written in third person instead of first person. i mean, obviously i am overly attached to pretty much everything about katniss, and yes that comes down even to her internal monologue, but i did wonder if that made some of the changes feel more natural to me, because we still kind of get them explained to us in the book as an observer, instead of listening to someone explain themselves to us (i don't know if that makes any sense?) -- but i guess what i'm trying to say is that maybe reading tbosas is more like watching a film, vs reading thg which is more like you are experiencing something alongside katniss? and that's because of the pov choice?

WELL that was a ramble! i'm always amazed by how much we can say about these books and films!! they're just so layered and so fascinating -- i'm loving all the conversations i've been seeing about tbosas. i feel like a lot of it is really starting to gel for me the more i read people's thoughts and analyses. (i still think the third act is messy though. no matter how great suzanne's themes are, i do think the pacing is rough. lol!)

Do u believe that Jaime might kill Cersei and then himself at the end of the series? I saw other page theorizing about him killing himself as a final act or something like that…

i think about jaime and suicide a lot bc i do think it is a permeating theme with him in many ways, and he does do a lot of passive suicidal ideation. he is one of the characters who does not fear death really and is reckless in a way that it is clear that part of him seems drawn to it because of his existential dread. idk bc the thing is that i do think that “what else can i do, but die?” passage indicates the opposite of an ending with suicide specifically, and i think there are themes relevant to him here that i think are more likely to be followed through rather than be tragically rejected:

nonetheless, theres a certain part of me that is morbidly drawn to him succumbing to despair anyway. like if he dies with valonqar, i think thats the only way i would actually like it. i was never someone that felt particularly moved by the “poetry” or “irony” of dying together because i always thought all of that is much richer if it is treated as desperate self affirming delusion that is bound to collapse. and we already see jaime reject dying with her once. there is a visible degree of acceptance of their fates not being entwined that is not feigned bc he did actually leave her to her fate and no longer feels the obligation to die with her, pretty clearly juxtaposed with his mindset in asos where he revolves his life around her “needing” him, and ofc cersei’s own desperate narrative rn. and i think george writing it so they can die exactly at the same time doesnt just feel unrealistic but also would hurt the weight of the scene to me because it would give me no aftermath. a wall falls on them both? valonqar doesnt even happen then. jaime killing cersei and then a wall falls on him or some shit? whats the point? double suicide? where is the ‘betrayal’ and irony and subversion of the jc dynamic’s narrative? cersei’s mindset is proven right. cersei kills him? idk if that works with cersei’s tragedy/betrayal/shock + how would she? he’s injured from something else and makes sure to bring down cersei with him? ig, still feel eh about it. if it happens, i wouldnt feel that much about anything thats not an actual suicide after a murder. and even then, it would make more sense for jaime to attempt suicide by rushing into the nearest battle/suicide mission based on his established characterization. that is the type of act that would be in character rather than just falling on a sword then and there ig. u can argue that the choice itself of him going back can be framed as a suicide attempt where he wants to go down with a sinking ship bc he thinks thats what he deserves, and ofc depending on when this happens the city might be beyond saving already, but still, the execution and circumstances matter to me. i also obviously dont want it framed as him being unable to live without cersei. i find that reductive of his character and boring on top of kind of incongruent bc he already made that choice of key separation once. he already proved himself capable of treating their lives as not entwined. i would only like suicide if it was about a complicated and ingrained sense of failure over not being able to triumph over reckoning with the world and the self (this is what makes the light go out in the weirwood dream too. cersei leaving is not where it ends), esp bc i assume the whole thing is playing on history repeating itself in the most ironic and dark way imaginable. ofc a bigger part of me wants triumph over that this time and for that flaming sword that he gave brienne to still burn and provide light in “his darkness”, replacing cersei’s torch that she takes with her in the dream as she joins tywin and joffrey and the lannister ancestors and leaves jaime in “the dark”, to represent some deeper purpose also embodied by brienne that allows him to continue past this point (the flames will burn as long as you live when they die so must you), and i also think it works better in a lot of ways. i have talked about widow’s wail currently being in the red keep, the twin swords set up, twftd foreshadowing, how i interpret the prophecies in the weirwood dream and how it works with the past and future etc, even how it all comes together thematically when it concerns knighthood and the cynicism/idealism synthesis. but still, a part of me is attracted to that kind of painful tragedy. im fairly open to a lot of things in general if they are not halfbaked and incongruent and dont make me feel empty in a bad way on top of being unsatisfied. but yeah, when thinking about the narrative as a whole, idk how it could work in a way that id like based on all that i have read.

to me, theres too much cost in terms of set ups, unless it happens at the very end of the story ig. but how would that work logistically? and when and how would he acquire widow’s wail? that sword’s a chekhovs gun for twftd that i think jaime has the most foreshadowing and set up with. what else would he do at the red keep? why put him there again when this part of the story could be wrapped up? like theres a certain order of events that seems to work and make the established pieces fall together much better in my head, but ofc i could be wrong.

- HOWEVER, much of his meaningful relationships have been with men. Can’t be helped since he is mostly surrounded by male nations, from Asia to Europe. Not that he’s had any kind of relationship (either sexual or romantic or both) with absolutely ALL of them, because he has deep trust issues/also hedgehog’s dilemma plus a myriad of other stuffs and is therefore pretty picky. It can’t just be Anyone or else he’ll want to die. He has a lot of troubles letting people in and romantic/sexual relationships inherently require you to be vulnerable. - The overbearing and possessive attitudes are from deep paranoia and distrust of anything ‘outside’, of anything he has no control over. But he also has fascination with all those things, and just like all isolationists, always want to be included (these are two things that exist in him simultaneously, always fighting each other).

- Ultimately tho what he wants most is familial relationships and affection. He wants someone (or more than one person) who will always be there for him. He is not exactly desiring for romance nor sex in the sense that it’s just not his utmost priority. While he has pretty healthy libido he’s okay taking care of it himself and for the most part he really does. I hc him as honestly one of the least sexual people in the big USSR house because I want to explore different alternatives than Vanya just exerting sexual power over his colonies, it’s boring, he can still bully his colonies without resorting to assault yanno. One-on-one connection matters less for him than familial-communal, that kind of thing.

- But also, no one among his colonies is OBVIOUSLY quite in his league enough to pursue serious partnership with. I rather think he’ll be quite conscious of this fact in a way? One reason he becomes interested in America, China, and some European countries is because they’re powerful/aligning more with his own league (or that’s what he hoped/s) and Ivan is attracted to power (as are all nations, and esp more powerful nations). I hc that his colonies got on with each other in the big USSR house and not with him, sans rare and very specific occasions, even tho everyone for ex Alfred thought it’s just one big Russia’s harem.

- Yes, usually the women he has had any semblance of relationship with are human, simply because there is no female nations around him (tho I do ship him with some nyos), and living around where he himself lives. Many of them are when he was much younger tho; dude tumbled a lot with young maidens in the hay. He was rather popular.

- His type in relationships: someone who provides comfortable, stable and safe space for him and isn’t the type who likes to argue or fights a lot with him. Someone he can at least trust (but no one so far has his whole trust). Someone who does boring stuff with him, like lazying around in the bed and tending to the garden. Someone who understands and accepts him, and is gentle to him. Basically, his desires out of any semblance of relationship are really boring and domestic.

- The women he likes are the ‘soft but assertive’ type tho. He likes women who can ‘take the wheel’ mentally because man is so tired he wishes to sleep for 637353 years. Has a thing for mentally more mature women who can mommy him.

- The men he likes are those who can respect him, and are chill. Those who can see him an equal, or would defer to him in some respects and not trigger his sensibilities too much. Ivan knows that he can be abusive to partners who are too weak against him, or to anyone ever, for sure. He actually rather respects those who can speak up against him, just that please don’t get loud and annoying about it lol

- Kinda is the type who wishes nice perfect people will fall from the sky and hug him to sleep be always there for him kind of thing. Doesn’t get that.

Expanding on some of the relationships he’s had and what type it is:

- With Golden Horde, it was purely platonic because he’d been a child and he… grew up really slow and was a particular late bloomer.

(No, no r*pe, since I also have an established Golden Horde OC and he developed into this person who is some kind of people hater and didn’t perceive any kind of sexuality up until he met this person who wasn’t Ivan, not even with one being used as a tool to assert power. Besides, Vanya was so weak hearted he would cry just from being trolled just a little bit. Basically Golden Horde had 3782739493832772638282 ways to traumatize little Vanya without using r*pe)

- With France, it was easily sexual because France himself also desired Ivan sexually. Their relationship developed fast because of this. These days Ivan still likes him, but it’s not sexually.

- Germany/Prussia: Ivan has never done anything with Ludwig, but likes him (platonically) a lot. Sometimes gets in on with Gilbert in modern era, but their coupling is pretty few and far in between. Gil likes him, tho he doesn’t want to admit.

- England: hate-admiration relationship and neither actually tries to get on with the other.

- Netherlands: Ned would fuck anyone so probably yes. All in the past tho.

- America: Ivan was not impressed with him when they first met, but tolerated him better than many others. Gradually getting more interested in him up until CW, where it developed into some kind of tense crush (not strictly sexual, BUT imbued by sexuality) but I’m on fence on whether they had gone around to actually do it. Maybe once, though. The 90s onward tanked his respect and affection to America and in modern time it’s like. Zero point five. Ivan has goosebumps thinking of the time he could ever like America like EW. America isn’t actually his type of partner BY FAR, so the fact that he could actually like America is betrayal to his own principles and sense of self and it’s super disorientating. When he was flirting with America, there was just too many chaotic moments and rollercoaster of emotions that while at the time was exhilarating now he truly realizes aren’t for him. There’s also one thing tho: Alfred was the only one who could handle his abuses while staying mostly intact, so you could say that this made Ivan soar.

- China: Yao isn’t a woman, but his aesthetics are really up Ivan’s alley (that balance on soft and hard, soft outside but firm inside). Definitely sexual though Ivan also seeks Yao quite a lot just for platonic companionship. If Ivan’s relationship with America is getting worse the more time passes, with China it’s just getting better.

- Mongolia: surprisingly chill if they don’t come to each other for serious things, occasionally sexual, Mongolia is daddy tho not quite with Ivan in that respect (nyo!Mongolia, however…)

- Central Asia: with Kazakhstan it’s mostly friendly (caveat: has to be some healthy distance between them for best possible friendliness, but ‘healthy distance’ is difficult for them for obvious reasons), sometimes they fight and break bones, ever-present low-riding tension Kazakhstan tries to keep at minimum for his own sake (there’re only so many sleepless nights he can handle), and generally complicated feelings. Uzbekistan hates Ivan even though is good at masking it.

- Turkey: obvious distrust between each other, fucked sometimes (less often than otherwise assumed) in the past. There’s certain side of you you can show to people you distrust, and that’s quite the howling mawing clawing animal side.

- Belarus: his sweet sister, idk which one is older and in the end doesn’t matter to me? Both of them are honestly unhinged tho, so I guess it’s not that Ivan is afraid of Natasha per se, it’s that he can see their, his, fucked-upness in her and he doesn’t really know how to deal with that, since he doesn’t need to see it if he’s living it himself but he HAS to see it if it’s reflected in another. It’s not that he’s afraid of her, perhaps it’s that he’s afraid of himself. But perhaps no one understands him more than she does.

1. Which part of the series was your introduction to HTTYD? How old were you when you first became a fan?

i rmr it pretty well. i was abt 11 years old & my mom found the first movie on comcast on demand & wanted to find a movie for us we (my siblings & i) hadn't seen so she chose it. i rmr the year prior with all the commercials on tv & stuff & was like hey!! i rmr wanting to see this! cool!! and i rlly liked the movie!!!!! my full obsession, however, didn't start until abt a year later when she brought home this pack of the first 6 books (that's all that was available at the time!) & reading through them i rewatched the movie & we had it on dvd by that point and that was it. the rest is history

5. What type of dragon do you think best matches your personality?

oh gosh. the impulse to say my fave but whispering deaths don't rlly "match" me personality wise. tbh a gronckle, me thinks. with a personality like meatlug or shattermaster. :') they're such goofy goobers but they're also rlly sweet & i am so soft for that LOL. they remind me of the dog i grew up with with how snorty they are & the way they wag their tails :'))

IDK their chemistry is just??? i love how they constantly bicker & snotlout is just a piece of shit & it causes astrid to retaliate & treat him like that even when he's not actively being a piece of shit which pisses him off & yet they always somehow end up by each other or saving each other much to astrid's chagrin half the time & then snotlout's confusion UGH ESP SNOTLOUT'S ANGELS the nose flick & then astrid admitting she doesn't hate him & his FACE HIS FUCKING FACE he's so got a genuine crush on her but doesn't know how to Behave & i love them getting together & then breaking up & for astrid it's smth she looks back on fondly but never wants to go back to while snotlout is stuck adding her to his list of ppl being the one that got away & yearning..... they're also so funny together & i feel like if they're ever on the same page they're so powerful & it's scary LOL

Your post kinda sums up why i could never be friends with ppl in the kr**bk community. They were either overly hostile to my other shipping preferences (esp bkdk), or they would snob me because of it saying stuff like "yeah well, everyone knows that kr**bk is the better choice" "it's fine you ship it but you know it's abusive right lol".

They could easily stick to just talking about their ship without bringing down another, let alone bring it up in the first place. Just say "oh, I don't ship that" and move on with the ship you do like!

I'm saying this as a multishipper who still do like other ships (I just can't find myself to interact with other shippers).

But every time someone says that BkDk is "abusive" and yet like other Bakugou ships, it just feels... odd to me because yeah, was Bakugou an ass to Midoriya? Oh, yeah, he was indeed a little shit.

But let's not act as if he's all sunshine and rainbows with everyone else from the start. Bakugou was ready to fight anyone, gender, age, status be damned. I wasn't there at the time, but it was rec'd to me years after, and from the Afterword, I gather it had a huge following. Years ago when I was thinking about writing TF fic, I asked a friend for an example of a well-done story, so I could get a sense of what was out there. TF is a daunting franchise to write for (or it felt that way at the time). Friend rec'd this. I read it (most of it, there was a party scene I skipped through), put my head on the desk, and thought, "I will never write something this good." I put off writing fic for a year because I thought I'd never be able to write something as complex and emotional. One of the chapters in this fic is the BEST writing I've ever seen in anything ever. It's not my favorite scene. It is the best scene. I won't say which one it is, because its power comes in part from being read properly in the story. But like. Holy shit, dude. So by my friend's rec, and things I've seen here and there, and the Afterword, I gather this fic had a huge audience at the time. I read it once and I will probably never read it again because of the aforementioned tags (it's too depressing for me), but I do occasionally go back and read That One Chapter to enjoy all its layers of meaning and amazingness. So if those warnings/tags don't put you off, and you don't mind depressing stories, you might like this one.

Side note: I PUT OFF WRITING FOR A YEAR BECAUSE I COMPARED MYSELF TO THIS FIC. If you like my writing and perhaps compare yourself to it, I get it, but don't let my work stop you from practicing and growing. Imagine how much better my writing could be if I hadn't lost a year going "weh." Don't lose time to comparing yourself to others!

And I Alone Have Escaped To Tell You by astolat

I learned this fic existed because I saw tumblr posts talking about it and a friend of mine drew a really pretty fan art for it. It def had a fanbase when it came out :D Astolat is a great writer (if you know, you know why). I have read this fic. It didn't grab me as much as it grabbed others, though another of her TF fics had some amazing and haunting worldbuilding and I still think about it sometimes.

🔞Working Through It by Trinary

Trinary is a great author. Actually, scrolling through their fic list to find this one, I see their stories have tons of hits. I highly rec you check them out :D anyway, I distinctly remember people talking about this particular fic when it came out. It's very much 🔞, it's pretty short but it packs in so much worldbuilding and characterization and weird/awesome 🔞 in a tiny space. I highly rec you follow Trinary on tumblr/twitter/everywhere/anywhere: they post rather infrequently but it's always really astute observations/commentary on stuff.

So yeah I suppose "I saw people talking about it" is an arbitrary guideline, but... yeah! These are some fics I know had a strong fan response in their day :)

Wesker's inability to divide violence from sex or intimacy has ultimately hindered him in the most unimaginable ways.

I don't think he has genuinely been hugged by someone else in decades and save for specific verses with active ships he's not really getting much in the way of contact with others.

He's past the point of being touched starved at this point.

He's touch "in critical condition"

He's touch "slowly bleeding to death in an alley somewhere"

The one and only time a ship cuddled/hugged him, Wesker ended up making a sobbing noise because he didn't know how to handle what he was feeling in that moment and was so unused to gentle affection that he genuinely did not know what to do.

He is unused to kindness or a softer touch. His reaction towards it would be pretty damn extreme esp inside of The Fog where I imagine the only time he has close contact is for sex or because he's killing someone.]

ok so i might have mentioned this but i had a small crush on him a few years ago? i think since like 2022. back then i shipped with cypher and was super fixated on him but i think sova was always in the back of my brain as a crush, although at the time i only had him as a platonic. also cuz one of my good friends who doesnt anymore used to ship with him so i didnt wanna overstep or anything.

anyways im not even sure how i suddenly decided to latch onto him, i think my fixation on yone at the time was starting to fade and my brain just randomly chose to fixate on him even tho he was still a crush at the back of my brain lol. and look where we are now/lh

as for what i like abt him, i think one of the biggest things i like is how polite he is/kind to others. i think thats like a rlly important trait in someone for me if i were like to date someone else and hes just rlly nice in general and very lovely, hes such a big sweetheart :)

also ok im gonna sound crazy here but my friends keep saying im a circle bcuz he rlly fits one of my types which is like the holy trinity of yone vergil and wyll. who are all like, responsible, serious, yet like kind and deeply caring. and sova definitely fits into that archetype haha even though hes not exactly the same?? most of those guys arent exactly the same but theres a huge overlap of similarity with them.

i do also think he is very pretty even tho he is unfortunately white/lh :') (or at least i smacked this guy with the asian beam. get wasian'd) idk i suck at explaining exactly why i like this guy, again i think a big part of it is how kind he is to others!! its again just smth i rlly value in a partner, he genuinely cares about others/esp people hes close to like his grandma. and is very thoughtful. also i like that hes super down to earth and humble like this guy is incredibly talented yet never brags about it at all hes just very modest. smug people drive me nuts so im glad hes not like that lol. he also is very passionate abt his interests like archery and also he does photography! i like to think he also does things like hiking, birdwatching and maybe some gardening in his spare time. idk its a shame we dont get too too much info about val characters although the lore is always constantly growing. i do think he does like lots of outdoorsy hobbies hes very respectful to and attuned with nature i think.

sorry this is getting so long omg. im trying to think of any last things to throw in... i think another thing i rlly love abt him is how calm he is. it kinda balances me out bcuz i tend to be a really hotheaded person but it takes a LOT for him to get bothered by something, or at least lose his temper. in the lore we've never really seen him lose his temper or anything like that? the closest it's gotten is that one image when they were releasing fade where it was like a flashback to him losing his eye and he looked super animalistic. actually i think that in general for him to get that mad or whatever it would probably have to involve one of his loved ones being in danger. which is nice bcuz it shows that he rlly cares.
