i've noticed one similarity between female celebrities and characters i've had crushes on is that they're all brown haired (some lighter, some darker)

" She’s a dream. Fierce, smart as a whip, funny and a whole lot of other adjectives. Just special type of person. And she has challenging questions. You have to be on your toes with her or she will eat a person alive. " - The director of The Continental talks about Katie McGrath

"Ella es un sueño Feroz, lista como un látigo, divertida y un montón de adjetivos más. Es tipo de persona especial. Y ella tiene preguntas desafiantes. Tienes que estar alerta con ella o se comerá a una persona viva."

From Rohini/Mrigashira to Jyeshta _ Morgan le Fay and The Morrigan
I've always been drawn to and fascinated by the Arthurian legends. Its characters are as vivid as they come and still serve as the original archetypes to the tropes that they inspired.
One very popular character is Morgana or Morgan le Fay. She's the original ambiguous witch, the polarizing character who is multi-faceted but easily recognized. The character Morgan le Fay and the goddess Morrigan have been closely linked together.
I did a little research on actresses that have played her in various adaptations and three nakshatras were prominent, especially as a certain placement. While there were other nakshatras that arose, such as Dhanishta, Magha and Revati, the ones I'm going to talk about were prominent in the most famous adaptations and not just as primary placements.
Tumblr media
So, let's begin with exploring her place in the Arthurian Legends a little bit. In most instances, she's king Arthur's sister, protecting him and generally being a benevolent goddess/enchantress, but in later versions of the legends, she exhibits a dual nature that is capable of both good and evil. Morgan le Fay means "Morgan the Fairy", so her magical abilities and identity are indicated in her name. She's first mentioned in Vita Merlini (The Life of Merlin), a Latin poem dating around the year 1150, believed to be written by Geoffrey of Monmouth. There she's depicted as a great healer and that trend continues for a while with the chivalric romances written by Chrétien de Troyes, a French troubadour. In Le Morte d'Arthur, written in the 15th century, she's Arthur's half sister, sharing a mother- Igrayne with him. She marries unhappily and takes on numerous lovers, including Merlin(despite being his apprentice) and has unrequited love for Lancelot. She also has a hatred for Arthur's wife- queen Guinevere. In that same century, Thomas Malory makes her the biggest enemy of Arthur, who tries to usurp the throne and takes part in his downfall. In the end, she reconciles with Arthur and takes him on his final journey to Avalon.
This is a very brief exploration of her character, but her traits, including her ambiguity are apparent. She's both a helper and an enemy, but most importantly, Morgan le Fay is an enchantress.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The nakshatras that arose most prominently in the charts of actresses who've played Morgana were Rohini, Mrigashira(Snake yonis) and Jyeshta(the nakshatra that's opposing them both). The most consistent pattern in their charts was the Rahu-Ketu axis in Rohini or Mrigashira and Jyeshta. Most of them had Exalted Ketu in Jyeshta, with a couple examples where it was flipped and Rahu was debilitated in Jyeshta, and mostly they had Rahu in Mrigashira, and sometimes Exalted Rahu in Rohini. The most famous portayals of Morgana were actresses also with a primary placement in one of those three nakshatras.
Helen Mirren in Excalibur (1981) - Ascendant in Mrigashira.
Tumblr media
Helena Bonham Carter in Merlin (1998)- Sun in Rohini
Tumblr media
Katie McGrath in BBC'S Merlin (2008-2012) - Moon Conjunct Rahu in Rohini, Ketu in Jyeshta
Tumblr media
Other examples:
Alicia Witt in The Librarians- Jyeshta Ascendant
Elizabeth Hurley in Marvel's Runaways- Rahu in Mrigashira and Ketu in Jyeshta
Whoopi Goldberg in A Knight in Camelot- Rahu in Jyeshta, Ketu in Mrigashira
Joanna Lumley in Prince Valiant- Rahu in Mrigashira, Ketu in Jyeshta
Julianna Marguiles in The Mists of Avalon- Sun in Mrigashira
There are other examples, but i've listed the more famous ones and you get the gist.
The good? The bad?
The witch.
As i've said, her character is most famous for her moral ambiguity. The snake yoni nakshatras- Mrigashira and Rohini are a great representation of Morgana's benevolent, Morgan le Fay aspect. They're both internally satisfied and preoccupied with more gentle matters, with Rohini sitting completely in the sign of Taurus and Mrigashira bridging the signs of Taurus and Gemini. Both nakshatras are opposite Jyeshta- the nakshatra sitting fully in Scorpio, concerned with everything occult and being constantly dissatisfied, hungry for more, never trusting anyone, in a stark contrast to the abundant nakshatras of Rohini and Mrigashira. Jyeshta can be associated with Celtic goddess Morrigan. For those who don't know, The Morrigan is a triple goddess consisting of three separate goddesses: Badb, Macha and Nemain. The Morrigan is the goddess of war and death, heavily associated with crows, just like Jyeshta nakshatra.
I want to focus on my favorite Morgana- Katie McGrath from BBC's Merlin and analyze her story and character arc, including how they relate to the snake yonis and Jyeshta.
Morgana in BBC's "Merlin".
Morgana in "Merlin" starts off as a sweet, helpful ward of the king Uther Pendragon of Camelot. In this adaptation, we're immideately introduced to the fact that magic is banned and the punishment for practising it is harsh. During the beggining of the pilot episode, we see Morgana sympathizing with the punished and defending them against Uther, exhibiting honorable traits such as bravery and fairness.
Tumblr media
Morgana watching the execution of a magic-user
She's an ally to Merlin, Arthur and Guinevere (who in this adaptation begins as Morgana's servant), frequently helping them even if it means going against the king and eventually, especially if so.
As time goes by and she discovers her magic, her hatred for Uther and her thirst for power grow.
SPOILER ALERT
At the end of season 3 she usurps the throne, revealing that she has been betraying the king and her old friends for some time. That's the beggining of her transformation, her tapping into her own abilities and power and embracing dark magic.
Tumblr media
Katie McGrath has Moon and Rahu in Rohini and Ketu in Jyeshta. The beggining of her character becoming the archetype of the goddess Morrigan is marked by the reveal of her true alliance and also by the change of her appearance. After that episode, she no longer wears beautiful dresses or is adorned by ornate jewelry, nor is her hair shiny. Her hair became dry and disheveled, she started wearing all black and became scary looking, her appearance matching her true nature, completely embodying the Jyeshta archetype.
Tumblr media
The nakshatra of Jyeshta is where we master the battle and the art of war (I explore Jyeshta in this post). It's ruled by the goddess Dhumavati- the old hag who is eternally hungry and dissatisfied, not unlike Morgana in the later seasons. If before she was just a suspect or a traitor, later her name was enough to induce terror in anyone. Her arc is very telling of why both the snake yonis nakshatras(Mrigashira and Rohini) and Jyeshta came up most in the charts of the actresses who have played this character. It's the transition from the benevolence to enmity and the constant back and forth between the good and the bad that defines the character, her magical and occult abilities(associated with Jyeshta) being a consistent characteristic. In the end, she's remembered as an independent figure, having no real ally other than herself, forever ambiguous and morally grey, a truly iconic female character that's been remembered for nearly a millenium. We're still telling her story, and I think we will be telling it for a long time to come.
Tumblr media
That's it! If you enjoyed this post please reblog, comment or like, especially reblog and comment. If you like Arthurian legends, Merlin or just enjoy vedic astrology then let me know your opinions. BBC MERLIN FANDOM IF YOU END UP HERE PLEASE INTERACT WITH ME I'd love to talk about the show and please, do tell me what you think about this post.
EDIT: So I've been informed in the comments that Katie's birthday is most likely wrong, but the overall statistic hasn't really changed, those three nakshatras are still dominant.
Love you all, take care.

I read somewhere that Merlin BBC (especially Merlin and Arthur's relationship) is subtext mlm like Hannibal NBC & Good Omens, do you agree?
Yes I do. The subtext is font size 20, bold and more consistent than the actual plot. /hj
In all seriousness though,
I don’t know anything about Hannibal NBC but Good Omens is a canonically queer show, I can’t remember the book enough to comment, it’s been a while since I read it properly more than skimming, but for the show but I’d definitely recommend season 2 to see more about Crowley and Aziraphel’s relationship. There’s also Maggie and Nina for lesbian rep, Muriel being canonically non binary and none of the angels or demons have a gender despite how they’re perceived.
As for BBC Merlin, they’ve confirmed it was intended to be a gay romance in the series finale commentary.
“In all seriousness, we did very genuinely think of the episode as a love story between two men” -quote by Julian Jones, the show’s director and producer with Katie McGrath, who played Morgana. There were also jokes about Merlin and Arthur being together throughout the commentary, comments about “there goes the last vestiges of his heterosexuality” “can’t have a show without lesbians” and “Merlin can’t have a love interest without you killing him off.” “Or her.” “Well,”(Last 3/5 quotes are paraphrasing, I don’t remember them word for word but you get the idea)
Contextually, it was before a time when gay marriage was even legalised in the UK and queer baiting wasn’t a thing because queerness wasn’t spoken about to begin with. There’s definitely something to be said for magic as an allegory for queerness and I can go into my opinions on that at length and in great detail if asked.
Merlin and Arthur’s relationship is canonically a friendship, there’s no denying that and as an aroace person it means the world to me that they weren’t together officially romantically, whatever you want to call it, even if they acted like an old married couple the entire time. In that same vein, as a queer person growing up in a very homophobic household in the UK, seeing them on tv as a kid was everything. I genuinely thought they were together for years until I started watching the show because I’d only seen a few bits and then fan edits of that moment by the river in season 2.
And this got longer than I was expecting so to summarise; I love merthur in all formats, be it romantic, platonic, or otherwise. But there is definitely subtext throughout the show, and a turning point for their relationship at the end of season 4/beginning of season 5.

My birthday is always a hard day. Today is no different. Especially this morning (and late last night/really really early morning before I went to bed), I really struggled.
I did a lot of swinging and songs on repeat and stimming and watching Merlin (all trying to distract from birthday-ness and making it feel safe and normal).
Then in the afternoon my brain relaxed a bit and tummy stopped feeling unwell. So I asked for two presents to open. I got a huge body pillow (HUGE MASSIVE), and two matching space theme pyjamas (in same style as the ones that I like best for sensory). Both things I asked for specifically, so it is not a big surprise, which is good for me.
And I had slightly different food than usual but that is okay because it is nice and tasty yummy food that makes me happy 😋😊!
I also had a conversation with Dad using AAC and that was very nice. We talked about how birthday is hard, he said he knew it would be a tough day from when he saw me in the morning at breakfast. But he said I am in control of what we do and when we do it and I can do whatever I want to make it as best feeling as possible. And then I tell him about watching Merlin and Supergirl, and he was jokingly "shocked" about me saying my favourite is Morgana and Lena and Katie McGrath 😆😂. I love my Dad 🥰.
Overall, as good a day as can be expected for my birthday. The rest of today is just for more swing and music on repeat and Merlin and Supergirl.
And tomorrow I can maybe have a few more presents and another jam doughnut! (And I am pretty sure I got sweets/chocolate from my Gran and Auntie when they came over earlier - they were downstairs and I didn't see them but Dad told me).
Thank you to everyone who said nice things to me today! It makes me smile 😊😊

1: Magic is a Metaphor < 2: Morgana is a Lesbian > 3: Merlin is Gay > 4: Arthur is Bi
Tumblr media
Building off of the whole metaphor idea, Morgana's character arc is basically that she starts to question her identity because she's having all of these dreams and thoughts that she doesn't understand. Then Gaius, who is straight up a conversion therapist, literally gaslights her and is like, 'no no, you're just going crazy, you're overreacting, here, why don't you take all of these drugs to suppress those thoughts?'
Meanwhile, Uther is saying all of this stuff about how sorcerers are all evil and should be killed, and Morgana will try to argue with him and he will just be like, 'well, why do you care so much?' And she's all, 'oh, no reason. I'm just an ally. I'm just really passionate about social justice.' Like, girl, we've all been there.
And then once Morgana does come to terms with her identity and she realises how fucked up the way that she was treated is, she goes batshit and starts a revolution and assassinates her dad. And good for her! I honestly think that all repressed lesbians deserve a little bit of murder, it's only fair, especially if they look so hot doing it.
Also, Morgana doesn't have any male love interests. I mean, she will sometimes flirt with men to manipulate them into doing what she wants, but it's very clear that that is what she is doing, she never actually cares about them or follows through.
Besides, Katie McGrath has never played a heterosexual in her life. She's basically straight up said that she played Morgana as a lesbian. You know where she said that? Here:
Tumblr media
Hear me out.
Are they technically half-sisters? Yes. But omg the sexual tension between these two is undeniable. You really do think that they're just going to kiss at any given moment. This has been straight up confirmed. This is a quote from the same conversation as earlier between the main producer and Katie McGrath, where they fully admit that there are definitely lesbian undertones there, and not only did both actresses play it that way, but it was written that way. So I rest my case.
Tumblr media
Gwen knew about Morgana's prophetic visions from the start and she was never scared of it or tried to deny that it was magic. Instead, she was always by Morgana's bedside (or in her bed) so she could hold her face and stroke her hair and tell her she would be okay. Gayasses.
Although, as Iori Miyazawa can attest, yuri is often best found in the absence of it. Because once Morgana accepts her identity and her magic becomes an unavoidable part of of her life rather than thoughts she could repress, she begins to push Gwen away, often in the form of telling her not to undress her anymore.
Then this tension between them is emphasised when Morgana starts having nightmares of Gwen marrying Arthur and is really upset by it for some reason. I know that she justifies it by saying that she doesn't want Gwen to take her place as queen, but if you think about that for more than 5 seconds, it makes absolutely no sense. Arthur is still going to be king regardless of who he marries, so unless Morgana is planning to follow the legend a bit too closely and marry her brother, then Gwen is absolutely not taking her place.
And yet Morgana spends the entire rest of the show obsessing over Gwen, including: planting false evidence to break up Gwen and Arthur, using necroLancey as a puppet to seduce her, kidnapping Gwen only to tenderly caress her face and force her to have dinner with her, and then of course enchanting Gwen to kill Arthur so that Morgana can be queen, and Gwen will seemingly also still be queen. And they will be two queens, together, platonically. Hmmm

"You must be experienced then." "I've had experiences" SO valid as an answer
"Bigger" Xena staring at her breasts.
"IT'S NOT LIKE YOUR BREASTS ARE DANGEROUS ENOUGH" dhdhdvsvsva GABRIELLE

"Use your own mind against you" uh oh
Is she wearing purple? Pwettyyy (not giving Katie McGrath at all, yes I'm gay)
OHHHH. Names of her victims. It's so much harder to kill when you see people as people...
"Kill us" oh yikes I'm getting hooj FMAB vibes from the philosopher's stone scenes. Especially in uhhhhh when they're stuck in the wrong portal

Um yes I will absolutely use a concept similar to this in a Jenny/Vastra fanfic at some point btw. I have the dreamspace and a psychic connection to exploit, hellooo.
I absolutely adore Xena and I think I'll spend the next few weeks watching only that.

hey leigh! this is a bit of a weird one, but have you seen this?
https://www.tumblr.com/gretel0019/739279112687026176/shes-been-passing-it-as-her-original-character
(not sure if the link will work, basically there’s a published french comic called Complainte des landes perdues where the main character seems to be katie mcgrath & the art style is realistic enough to make it obvious.)
i was curious about your opinion of this as someone in the industry - is it as sketchy as it feels?
Ohhh that’s… yeah.
I remember some other (amazing) artist did a whole graphic novel using Katie McGrath and Alycia Debnam-Carey as inspiration, but they openly admitted to that and I dunno if they got permission but I think they at least tried to? Or showed them, or something…
Either way this situation feels a tad yikes.
Now, she might be flattered that she was somebody’s inspiration, sure — because she’s so kind. But I would think her team and especially attorney might be a little less than happy about it because this person is literally making money off of her likeness without (?) permission.
And it tends to open the floodgates also. In this case, the person probably means well and the story is probably okay and non-offensive. But what happens when somebody else tries to use her likeness for something pornographic or problematic to make money — and then people think that she gave permission, and then maybe she’s gotta sue, etc and it becomes a whole big thing you know?
These types of situations are always very tricky as soon as money becomes involved.
Fan art and fanfic is one thing. Hell, doing a fanfic then turning that into something original and selling it has been done in Hollywood a lot especially lately so that’s also something else.
But a real person’s exact likeness being used as a way to market and sell something without permission… ethically that’s just really not okay and legally it’s very risky on the part of the author / artist.
