Andrzej Sapkowski: "Personally, I like the Netflix series a lot"
youtube
Minute 8:13-8:17 ("persönlich da habe ich die Netflix Serie sehr gern")
He also says something about the Slavic influence: "When you say that in the Geralt Saga many things and matters are inspired by Slavic mythology, that's true, but not only, not only." (He really emphasises this!) (3:12-3:30)
When he is asked if he was influenced by Tolkien, he says yes, that he is a specialist at fantasy and has read everything and that his goal was to avoid all the cliche/sterotypes that you find in fantasy and to find his own way. ("Mein Ziel war, alle Klischees die im Fantasy sind, zu vermeiden, also finden meinen eigenen Weg." (6:39-6:55)
So, all in all, Netflix not just copying the exclusively white elves from Tolkien's world seems to be compliant with the author of the Witcher books's ideas. Maybe there could have been more Slavic elements, but that the Witcher is pretty much exclusively inspired by Slavic mythology like some people claim on social media is not true, according to the author (he especially mentions the Brothers Grimm as influences, for example). And that every fan of the books must automatically hate the show is definitely bullshit, if even the author himself likes it.
Take that, haters 😉

Random. But do you have any star wars fic recs ? Fics recs of any kind are welcome actually ^_^
Oh, uh, sure.
Let's see, I've mentioned @chancecraz a bunch of times, I love all their stuff, if I had to pick a favorite I'd say Of Queens, Knights, and Pawns but how does one really choose?
I've also mentioned @fialleril and Double Agent Vader, which really got me into the SWs fandom in the first place. I love everything I have ever learned, it hits me so hard in the feels each time. (I also really loved Sigyn's Saga if we're also talking not-SW stuff.)
I enjoyed The Desert Sun series by @blue-sunshine-mauve-morning. (I will be honest, I have only read the first series I have not started Rise and Fall.) It's engaging and fun and thoughtful.
doing it by my lonesome and staring down the barrel of the hot sun by magneticwave are two fun Luke/Din stories featuring appropriately cute Grogu. I also liked pages filled with scribbled ink, which is an epistolary Padmé/Obi-Wan fic that had me cackling. (their non-SW stuff is good too, I especially enjoyed just me against the sky)
Other...serious(?) recs include: The Wingless Dragon by husborth if you like being sad and horrified about Vader's bad choices. Food Scandal by Malicean for some situational hilarity and for lots of OC perspective on Imperial bureaucracy (my other weakness aside from politics). PRojects IN Controlled Environments by Beth Winters for Imperial R&D bureaucracy, more situational hilarity, and very relatable coworker nonsense.
More silly/fun premises include: Compromising by samvelg, which inspired me to write a (very different) Piett POV of Luke and Vader nonsense. Memo: Jedi Maintenance (The Care and Feeding of Your Jetii) by RainofLittleFishes is exactly what it says and what you would hope for from such a title. Luke Skywalker is Altogether Too Likeable by Mokulule is another Piett POV of Skywalker nonsense.
As far as Non-Star Wars recs
It would be a crime and sin if I didn't mention Embers by Vathara , an Avatar the Last Airbender fic which honestly changed my life and how my brain was shaped.
World Ain't Ready by @idiopathicsmile is a Les Mis fic I've gone back to a few times. The dialogue is just really good. I spend a lot of the fic laughing, and also screaming at the characters.
I fell absurdly in love with Second person familiar, I think because it tickles some part of me that just dies over linguistics, and I'm a fan of pretty much everything @jackironsides has done for The Witcher.
Salvage by @muffinlance is a very fun Avatar the Last Airbender fic about Zuko getting reluctantly adopted by Hakoda (it's so good).
Finding the Line by Miss_Lazy_Tuesday is a Batfam fic that sort of ruined me at one point, it's fine. (I enjoy their other stuff too.)
The Angel of Hell's Kitchen by MarbleGlove is a Daredevil fic. I don't really go here, but this was about social structures, bureaucracy, and doing the work, and we all know I can't help myself.
Reconstruction by rageprufrock is the story of Stephanie Rogers, but like, it's Pru writing it. So. Characters are great. World building is great. Tension and longing and grief are great. I cannot stress enough how good the academic and news article asides are. Like, it's good. Incomplete, but so good.
Ordinary Numbers by BootsnBlossoms and Kryptaria, a James Bond fic that I keep coming back to because I too would be a sucker for someone who sent me needlessly expensive gifts.
And This, Your Living Kiss by opal_bullets is a Supernatural fic about poetry. I am not in this fandom, but again, my weakness for language gets me every time.
ever fallen in love (on national TV)? by ganymede_elegy is a GoT Jonsa modern Bachelor AU and...guys I cannot express how much I Do Not Go here, and how much I still recommend this fic. Like, it's just...I don't know. It worked. In spite of me knowing nothing about GoT or The Bachelor. wtf
survival of the fittest by cywscross is a short Naruto fic about a very unpleasant adventure for Sakura and Shikarmaru that just...worked. As a story. Dunno, I just really like it.
I could be wrong, I could be ready by harryromper is a Harry/Draco fic where they are disasters and traumatized, and it is about healing and building houses as a metaphor for overcoming trauma, and it's fine, I'm fine.
eternity will be born from hope by theseviolentdelights99 is a Yuri!!! on Ice fic that is about a time traveling Yuuri who (you'll never guess) goes back in time and does bureaucracy in his hometown and his sport to help the people that he loves. The unreliable narrator is excellent, the social media asides are wonderful, and it's not complete but it is exactly my poison.
(Wow, this is so long and all over the place...)

Hello! the Encyclopedia of the Witcher elves, if I may call you so. There is a question about Aen Elle's migration route that has not been understood. Because everything I see says "A". If it is A, why does avallac'h say: Tir na Bea Arainne is their root. This cemetery is way too far for Aen Elle. And Auberon says: we unlike the Aen Seidhe, our cousins, we left that world a long time ago. Could you please tell me Aen Elle's migration route?
Hello! Always have thought people are like little books with make your own ending :)
So in short, A is wrong. In every sense.
B is closer to truth, but also a little bit wrong.
B is correct in that elves arrived first in the Witcher world before the Conjunction (Aen Elle & Aen Seidhe among them). Then, either before the Conjunction or around the time of the Conjunction, Aen Elle left the Continent for a new, more interesting world. And this is where the timeline gets messy, especially if numbers matter to you.
Humans arrive in the Witcher world (sphere, planet) with the Conjunction - which is 1500 years before the Saga. Humans' First Landing on The Continent (meaning the Northern Kingdoms where the Saga takes place & where the Aen Seidhe have settled) takes place only 500 years before the Saga, though. Yarpen, in Blood of Elves says that elves "happen to be strangers just as much as you humans, although they arrived in their white ships a good 1000 years before you." So depending on whether Yarpen means the Conjunction or the First Landing, the first arrival time of the elves in the Witcher world is either 2500 years before the Saga (1000 years before the Conjunction) or 1500 years before the Saga (meaning the Conjunction). The 2500 years narrative is considered canon.
B is vague regarding Ard Gaeth.
From Auberon we know that moving between worlds before the Conjunction was easy if you had a little talent and skill. Which means that if Aen Elle left before the Conjunction (as opposed to after the Conjunction but before the First Landing), whether or not they controlled Ard Gaeth, moving around worlds was not a huge issue at the time & unicorns probably merely helped them find their current "interesting" world among many others. If, however, they left after the Conjunction (which made moving around worlds difficult while creating many more worlds) but before the First Landing, then it's possible unicorns helped them to somehow retain control over Ard Gaeth despite the newly arisen complications.
Personally, I am inclined to think the Aen Elle left shortly before the Conjunction, being able at the time to open Ard Gaeth which they had been able to open multiple times in the past when travelling was easy & which allowed them to travel to the Witcher world in the first place. And that when unicorns mention having been deceived by the Aen Elle then they are referring to being deceived into a friendship and an alliance with them long before elves ever arrived in the Witcher world; and long before they revealed themselves capable of conquest, colonisation, genocide, and enslavement. Anyway, this goes off-topic a little bit.
B is wrong in regard to Aen Undod. Aen Undod is the games' invention & not in the books. We don't know what the relations between the different tribes of elves were like, if they were one people, or how many different tribes were there.

I'm usually not the type of reader/fan who complains about adaptations that aren't exactly like the books, but I'm not surprised about the cancellation of Shadow & Bone.
I mean, these sagas are very good, just like The Six of Crows. But they really screwed it up.
Tumblr media
The first season was okay, but there were decisions made that really ruined the story for me, for example…
The fact that they decided to call the Darkling General Kirigan… something that doesn't happen and is essential to Six of Crows. In addition to ruining the importance of him revealing that his name is Alexander, it also diminishes the intrigue and fear that this character provokes in my opinion (how everyone just knows him by Darkling)
Mixing the Crows into the story was a bad move… they should have had their own show… Since in the book, that story takes place after Shadow & Bone and it has nothing to do with Alina.
Also, I think Netflix doesn't really make good fantasy world adaptations (e.g. the lasts seasons of The Witcher, Cursed, Blood Origin), so everything feels smaller (cheaper) than it should have been.
The dialogue wasn't that good either. The acting was good, tho. i'm not judging the actors' work.
It just bothers me, like… if you want to add things to the story, create subplots for other characters and just build the story further, that's fine, but don't remove important things (They literally cut so many things from the books) Don't make such drastic changes. The reason this book is being adapted is because it is already good enough the way it is.
I understand that not everything can be adapted exactly as it is in the book. I understand they have a budget.
But it makes me sad, because when I hear that a book (especially fantasy/lore/world) is going to be adapted to television, I really want and hope that all the people who don't like reading can enjoy the same experience. that I had from reading about these characters and worlds, but they don't do them justice.
It happened with Shadowhunters, now this… I don't even know if they will ever adapt Throne of Glass (rumors have been circulating for years) or Acotar or even Fourth Wing.
i'm sorry i just needed to vent.
Anyways... fuck you Netflix...

Would Ciri really let fake Ciri and Emhyr continue to trick Cintra?
I know many think that Ciri prefers to be a witcheress, it makes sense she never shows interest in recovering her kingdom, not because she doesn't care about the fate of her homeland but because the amount of trauma and persecution she faces doesn't give her time or mental clarity to think carefully what to do, Ciri is a girl who has been constantly dragged by the tide of events and decisions that others make for her. But what would happen if, after healing emotionally and managing to control her power, she decides that she wants to recover her crown? What will she do? What will happen when, upon arriving in Cintra, he sees a false Ciri? When they tell him that a girl who pretended to be her married the guy who invaded his country and caused the death of his family? And if he discovers the real reason for the invasion of Cintra because her own father valued what a piece of paper and the words of a dishonest magician said more than the well-being of his daughter?
It would be a disaster and I don't think like many that Ciri is just going to turn around and never come back, she's going to be furious with Emhyr and she's going to want revenge, I remind you of Ciri's time with the rats, she's no stranger to spilling blood because it is upset, although I got over that phase seeing your biological father who tried to rape you to engender the king of the world living a full and happy life while your own life thanks to him has been hell can return it to that phase again.
Could he really be nice to fake Ciri? Many believe that Ciri will instantly understand the circumstances of the impostor girl. But if she is still angry because, after all, that girl is an accomplice to a deception by an invading nation to usurp the throne of Cintria, which the false Ciri does not have? right? And if even if she likes her, she refuses to let the charade continue, everyone believes that Ciri is going to allow her compatriots to continue being deceived and that she is going to focus on feeling sorry for a young woman forced to take her place. reverse? She pities fake Ciri but demands that she stop using her name and titles because they don't belong to her.
How will the people of Cintra react when the truth is revealed? That his true lost princess has returned and she is not the girl with the sad green eyes portrayed in that painting in the royal gallery of Cintra betrothed to the Emperor of Nifgaard but a woman with the powers of the ancient blood, with the training of a Witcher and the skills of a sorceress; that in addition the consort of the deceased princess Pavetta and the emperor are the same person and that the subject caused the death of his first wife and started a massacre just to commit incest with his own daughter, they were already revealing themselves from imperial control when unexpectedly their princess was found by Nifgaard and married the conqueror of Cintra, forcing them to lay down their arms. Those people are going to want blood, Ciri is going to want blood, and the rest of the northern kingdoms will very likely back her if she wants the crown that rightfully belongs to her.
I don't feel sorry for Emhyr at all when he faces the consequences of his vile acts motivated by a mere prophecy, that idiot was lucky that the author of Witcher wanted to end the saga quickly because another writer like George R.R. Martin would take decades to explain the consequences realistic to make decisions based on prophecies especially if you are in a position of great power with people who depend on you. Emhyr could take on his magically powerful daughter and a bunch of rationally pissed off people, looking for his head while not forgetting that his own people won't be happy that their ruler dragged them into a war with a nation they could have peacefully annexed by their marriage. with Pavetta otherwise he would have been obsessed with forcing his daughter to give birth to a son/brother who would supposedly save the world but in the end he did not have the strength to carry out the act but even so he chose to usurp his own daughter as how did the usurper with him, and give his inheritance to a young woman similar to her with whom he fell in love, I know it is more complicated than that and it was at that time the only way Emhyr saw to solve the mess he got everyone into But it doesn't change how that not only ruined Ciri's life but also that of hundreds who couldn't claim justice because they chose to be loyal to Queen Calanthe's granddaughter when that girl was an impostor.
The only one I really feel sorry for is false Ciri, she was a girl who lost everything in the war and unlike Ciri fate did not magically bind her to a monster hunting protector, that girl had to go through refugee camps and then through the child labor until being kidnapped and forced to assume the identity of another person who could die because no one is going to look for her because everyone thinks it's you.
That girl had to get used to a different culture while having to look like a Cintrian princess, most likely her life before the Cintra massacre was not very good because of how she clung to Lady Stella, Emhyr and her role as Princess Cirilla for the sake of it. comfort that each one gave her, and she refuses to give it up even if the real Ciri rightfully demands it, it would be a tragedy to see these two poor war orphans face each other.
And I think that the Cintrians themselves are going to treat her as a prostitute of the emperor who took the place of her true princess without empathizing with her tragedy.
What do you think?

Can women become witchers?
While in books we don't meet any female witchers we also don't find any reason of why women can't be witchers. At least not in just a process of becoming one.
First thing is that in books Ciri calls herself “wiedźminka” (female form of wiedźmin, witcher) and noone thinks twice about it. It’s important to mention that in Polish every noun has gender. And discusion about female forms is really intense.
Second thing is that when Geralt brings Ciri to Kaer Morhen it’s obvious for everyone that they COULD make witcher out of her. That’s even what Triss thinks at the very begginging.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s important to mention that in books witchers are still able to create new ones. They still have all the potions, still know recepies. It’s just that most of the witchers that knew how to do it were killed and wizards and sorceresses didn’t really wanna help them. So it was obvious that if there is a child in Kaer Morhen it means that the child will become a witcher. After all it’s what Geralt says:
Tumblr media
See? Of course it is mentioned that Ciri was the first girl in Kaer Morhen. But it wasn’t the only witcher’s keep that ever existed. And as it’s important to say that while Continent is not based on Poland, the society thinks the same as it does in reall world. That women (even if we proof million times that we are just as able to fight and kill as men are) are weaker and shouldn’t fight and they should give birth and take care of home and children. So it would be a great reason why we don’t meet female witchers. Witchers were monster killers. Strong and emotionless. Covered in scars. Doesn’t feel much girly like, does it?
Tumblr media
Here Triss mentions how the process of becoming a witcher means changing whole metabolism and hormons. She was scared that what they gave Ciri would change how she looks, especially her secondary sexual characteristics and ability to get pregnant. And Triss is a powerful sorceress and can’t have children herself because of that. So how would society react if there greedy witchers would turn delicate girls into monster slayers? Also how men would reaact if they had to ask women for help.
With that in minds let’s go back to Kaer Morhen. The witchers didn’t really know how Ciri, as a girl, was different than boys but did train her. Do you think they would do it, and even give her infamouse mushrooms to eat if there never was a female witcher before?
Tumblr media
That is propably the best part of whole saga. Triss is the one that tell them that as a girl Ciri has a period. Them, as a men that were rised by other men and naver had longer realtonship with women that actually bleed every month. And their reactions weren’t like “oh gods, it’s a girls, we can’t do this to her she’s WOMAN”. No, it were “gods, we’re idiots. of course she can’t train when she’s on her period”.
(btw I love how Sapkowski described that girls are taught to be ashamed of having periods. and that they can cry when they get first period. that shit is scary!)
Also it was never mentioned that only boys were trained. It always was children.
Tumblr media
Here it’s even highlined that the child that survived was male. And it’s a Child Surprise. Not Son Surprise. So I think that it’s save to assume that someoone could become a witcher no matter their gender. But they would just have to remamber that they HAVE TO treat girls in other way.
My theory is that most popular Trials were based on what works for men. On male hormons, male bodies. And as trials were dangerouse it’s easy to assume that girls had higher death rate if whole proceduere was dedicated for men. Honestly, it’s a problem with modern medicine because it’s designed for male patiens.
A little off canon the School of Cat is mentioned as one that trained female witchers. And it makes total sense! Trials were a little different for every school. And Cats were trained as fast, agile. Perfect as hitmans. Of course it sounds like something that would works for women. In my theory they could create witcher version of Black Widows! And in my head it makes total sense. What do you think?
And of course I didn’t come up with this whole thing because I’m thinking about writing a story with my female witcher OC... No, not at all.

book depository is closing april 26th, 2023
book depository, an online book retailer, is sadly closing next week. i wanted to make a post for my fellow american fans of the witcher, for whom this business closure limits our access to polish publications.
book depository was where i personally bought the polish editions of the witcher books, because no other retailer that would ship to the US that i could find carried them. probably because of this, they have also been the known resource to buy the books linked in the sidebar of r/wiedzmin.
Tumblr media
disclaimer that this post isn't to sell anything or judge people for buying or not buying, it’s up to one’s personal preference whether they purchase the physical copy of a book or not. i just wanted to let everyone know that if you were already planning to buy the witcher books or related titles (especially the polish editions), this could be a last opportunity to purchase with this specific retailer.
there are also other releases available, such as the fonopolis audiodramas on CD, which all seem to all be 43% off right now:
Tumblr media
and there are also titles that have not yet been officially translated into english, sapkowski-related and witcher-related, which might interest you:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
malady and other short stories: short stories by sapkowski, including witcher-related stories "road of no return" and "something ends, something begins"
the world of king arthur: essay by sapkowski about arthurian legend
claws and fangs: short stories not by sapkowski, 'official fanfiction' set in the witcher world
witcher, phenomenal history: a comprehensive look at the cultural phenomenon of the witcher, from short stories and saga, to comics, to games, to the musical, to other adaptations
and, if you don't care about polish releases, perhaps the recently-released english hardcovers by orion may interest you, since they all, save for the last wish, seem to be 25 to 30% off right now:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
you're still able to place orders up until 7 PM EST on april 25. their FAQ about their closure can be found here.

🇬🇧🇺🇸 ENGLISH / ANGLAIS 🇬🇧🇺🇸
MAN OF THE DAY #56 : HENRY CAVILL
I shouldn't have any specific reason to talk about Henry Cavill, famous British actor who - as you know if you've read my TOP 10 MOST HANDSOME MALES CELEBS - is for me the most handsome man in the world on a par with Chris Hemsworth.
So I've blogged about Henry Cavill before, and even written a personal fictional story about him. Here, I admire him, he seems arrogant and humble, gentle and dominating, seductive and a great fucker... In short, he is more complex than he looks. He has evolved physically, mentally and also in his acting and his choice of roles.
Tumblr media
The news has arrived: he will not be reprising his role as Clark Kent / Superman in the DCEU (DC Extended Universe, i.e. the DC Cinematic Universe). For those who have seen the movie Black Adam (2022) - which I reviewed on my blog - this news is surprising. I wouldn't say more. Let's just say stay until the end of the credits.
Either way, it seemed obvious that Henry Cavill was going to return, but nothing was official. It was then formalized but now that James Gunn (director of the Guardians of the Galaxy saga in the MCU) has become artistic director of the DCEU, plans have changed. In addition to Wonder Woman 3 which will not take place (to my great regret), Superman will no longer be played by Henry Cavill, but that does not mean that there will not be a Superman film, or even that he could one day appear if we create a DC multiverse.
Tumblr media
Well, I'll stop with the details of cinema and I advise you to read an article to which I put the link, and which explains the situation.
So here it is, if I regret this decision it's because Henry Cavill is my Superman. Yeah, that's the version I would have known growing up. There is also the interpretation of Superman in the Lois and Clark television series, but that is something else. We are talking about movies here.
And honestly, Henry Cavill was perfect. In addition to the fact that he is physically perfect (very tall, very muscular, harmonious face, dreamy smile, as handsome in Clark as in Kal-El), he had a perfect conquering look. I loved his couple with Lois Lane who is excellently played by Amy Adams.
It was already planned that Amy Adams would not resume her role as Lois Lane (under the pretext that she is too old when honestly she is sublime for her age), but this is really too bad for Superman, who is a fantasy as much as a model.
Tumblr media
Superman is a hero who is admired for his kindness and courage, but he is the one who defends the weak and fights against powerful villains. It seems naive said like that, but he is a model and also a living god whom we admire for his complexity. Especially since he has a turbulent private life.
As far as I'm concerned, it's always his physique that I imagined when I wrote about Superman several times.
Films and television series where Henry Cavill are always successful, and I understand better the frustration of fans of the series The Witcher (Netflix). I'm not one of them, but I understand their regret at no longer seeing Henry Cavill.
Tumblr media
For my part, I think that a character is more important than an actor, however the way a person plays a character influences our view of the character. So Henry Cavill was a real fan of the character he played, like those who had the privilege of playing Peter Parker / Spiderman.
Well, the fact that an actor no longer plays his role is not the most serious news in the world, but that does not mean that we cannot regret that an actor as handsome and charismatic as Henry Cavill can no longer play a character as admirable and brave as Superman.
Tumblr media
Do not hesitate to react to my article and tell me your position on its dismissal: are you satisfied with the artistic revival of the DCEU or would you have preferred Henry Cavill to remain Superman?

MOST ANTICIPATED  2023 BOOK RELEASES
in fairness, “most anticipated” is a stretch. I’m not totally up on upcoming releases because I’m not really in the book community like I used to be. these are mainly titles I found interesting in a quick search
the stolen heir by holly black admittedly the folk of the air series is akin to fast food for me. like it sustains me exactly as long as it takes to finish it, and twenty minutes later I’ve forgotten all about it. however it’s a friend’s favorite series and I’m looking forward to their excitement enough that it’s elevating my own
song of silver, flame like night by amélie wen zhao the cover is beautiful and I’ve been leaning more into fantasy lately. it’ll be a bit of branching out since I’ve not read anything else by this author
emily wilde’s encyclopaedia of faeries by heather fawcett another author I haven’t read and a cover that’s fun. I’m charmed by the summary of a socially struggling academic studying faerie folklore
the daughters of izdihar by hadeer elsbai it’s being shelved as lesbian and I’m shallow enough to be hooked on that alone. plus I love a good fight for your rights story so fingers crossed it fucks
vampire weekend by mike chen “about a boy meets what we do in the shadows” literally all this book has to do is be mildly good in the follow through and I’ll love it
clytemnestra by costanza casati I just think books about reviled women are something that can be so personal
Tumblr media
MOST ANTICIPATED  2023 BACKLIST READS
the golem and the jinni by helen wecker I read about 50 pages of this every six months and have never finished it. now that I listen to audiobooks, I’m determined to read it all. idk what’s stopped me since I enjoy it when I pick it up
sword of destiny and blood of elves by andrzej sapkowski I’m a good way through sword of destiny already. my witcher era never really ends but will shift between the show, the games, and the books.
cruel illusions by margie fuston it’s especially unfair to call this one a backlist read as it’s a very recent release. anyway, that noted, I just got the fairyloot edition and it’s so gorgeous. so this is kind of a vanity pick I’m hoping lives up to its presentation but vampires and magic and deadly games does sound dope
a closed and common orbit by becky chambers omg I was such a long way to a small, angry planet girlie when that was released only to then never read another in the series... planning to change that in 2023. I might even reread the first book because it’s been so damn long
saga, compendium one by brian k. vaughan saga has been tapping my shoulder lately begging to be reread and I definitely need the refresher before picking up vol.10
the ten thousand doors of january by alix e. harrow my favorite book in the world (top three at least) is the starless sea by erin morgenstern and no other book ever hits the way it does, but the ten thousand doors of january is always the first Similar Recommendation so it’s worth a shot

Ok, so I finally decided the way I want to direct this blog/"page". I may edit this in the future in case I forgot to mention something on the day I post this. This is the basic summary:
1. This is an official blog for my personal project The Legends of No-man's Land. I'll be posting stuff about the world-building, the lore, the story and characters which are either based on mythological gods or are directly inspired by them. NOTHING IS RELIGIOUS. Everything here was and is created because of my passion for mythical stories and various cultures which have been influencing me my whole life. Why? I simple grew up listening and reading about them. Do not take this in a way I'd be making fun of a religious group. In fact, I avoid this as much as I can.
2. I might be also posting character analyses and writing prompts. I enjoy writing and creating new stuff. So if you'd like to chat about such, ask a question or two or think you could suggest an improvement, please, feel free to contact me.
3. The takes I take on characters are purely my interpretations.
4. The main story (as well as spin-offs/prequels/sequels/origin stories, if I feel like writing them) are going to feature MATURE ideas and themes (for instance the abuse and how different people deal with it). This means NSFW content which isn't at all directed at minors and people who are uncomfortable with gore, addiction etc.
5. The core is more or less of a psychological aspect. Let's say, it's somewhat of a deep dive to issues (social, psychological etc.). Please keep in mind, the story ONLY poses questions and ONLY ATTEMPTS to find a solution. Never a right answer.
6. Genre: dark fantasy (feat. Slavic (especially), Chinese, Nordic, Shinto, Greek, Native American and other mythologies) and folk/psychological/cosmic horror.
7. If anyone thinks something in terms of not getting right some facts in culture/myths, pleas, feel free to contact me. I'd like to get educated as I believe this is the key part of leading a civil conversation. To offend someone beliefs is the last thing I'd ever want.
8. If anyone wants to chat or share an opinion, do so in a polite and civil way.
9. When it comes to my grammatical skills, let me know and I'll try to make myself as clear as possible because English isn't my native language.
10. The story is heavily (like, HEAVILY) influenced by several already existing novels, sagas, mangas and video games (for exemple Berserk, Bloodborne or Witcher and, of course, folk stories I used to read or members of my family would tell me). I will not deny if you'll spot certain familiarities. However, the stories and characters aren't copies of them. They are on their own and they "live" their own lives.
11. I might post a design or two (take with a grant of salt, 'cause lately I've been hooked up on drawing a lot).
12. Writing prompts will be free to use. My characters, the story, the setting and generally the world of TLNL - no.
Sorry for a long post but because I want to finally create more of this project I wanted to clear all of my ideas up. I know today it's one or two people (at best). However, in case people will take some liking or interest into this, I don't want any kind of confusion to happen.
Again, sorry for grammatical errors but as I mentioned English isn't my first language, though I enjoy writing in it.

I’ve just realized that there is one thing about the House of the Dragon (HoTD) that I find especially satisfactory.
That is, that it is not only a better adaptation, but a better series overall, than The Rings of Power. The writing, the plot, the characters, the costumes - all of that is just so much better in quality than what Jeff Bezos & Amazon have done.
And don’t get me wrong, I am a fan of both Tolkien and Martin, and I find their stories good and unique in their own way. It’s just that… well, you see, I come from a country where the Tolkien fandom is not only predominantly conservative, but also painfully elitist. Basically, they are obsessed with the idea of what they refer to as “the real fantasy™️”. And according to them the only story that deserves this title is, of course, The Lord of the Rings (along with other stories set in the world of Middle-earth written by J.R.R. Tolkien) - the rest is garbage. Especially works of George R.R. Martin and Andrzej Sapkowski, because, apparently, they know no other popular contemporary fantasy series/books than A Song of Ice and Fire and The Witcher Saga 🙄
For all those years I was ridiculed among other Tolkien fans whenever I admitted that I enjoyed ASoIaF or The Witcher Saga as well. I have been told that I am stupid, that I have no taste in literature, and that everyone will forget Martin and Sapkowski before I turn 30 anyway, so I am wasting my time… I could go on and on. For people so fixed on morality and showing respect to others, even despite disagreeing with them, the Tolkien fandom seems to be full of cruel vipers.
And seeing all those very same people who ridiculed me like that for liking other fantasy apart from Tolkien crawl while watching The Rings of Power is like karma to me.
It's like, yeah, b*tch, now I am going to ridicule you. Look, you liked a work so popular and established in the known world that now even Jeff Bezos is ready to use it to scrub his image off all the criticism it has received throughout the years. Cry and whine, while I’m gonna watch House of the Dragon and actually get invested in the story and like to return to it in years to come. In those same years when you will try to pretend that The Rings of Power never happened - but you won't be able to, because Amazon, as a typical collosus of a corporation which it is, will make sure that you won’t.
And the best part is that you can do nothing about this.
(To all the less conservative and non-elitist Tolkien fans, know that this is not about you, but about some… branches of the Tolkien fandom that do show such negative tendencies. Please, don’t shoot me, I just needed to get this thing off my chest.)

Wingmen from Hell
“Gold nugget in a pile of compost” - the line is so dreadfully effective upon utterance because it picks at Ciri’s insecurity, her hope that she is more than the baseness and evil marring her; more than what the world has been reducing her to.
In this particularly sly way, the one-two Avallac’h & Eredin run on Ciri is kind of brilliant.
After entering the world of the Alders Ciri goes about trying to convince herself she is not at all astonished by the beauty of the place; by the very possibility of such beauty (coming off blood on ice and the witnessing of her friends’ heads being stuck into sacks of sand). Very quickly her first impression takes shape: in this world everything is different. Different! As in... better? Beauty bias makes humans associate beautiful things with goodness almost by default, and likewise ugly things with evil. It’s no co-incidence the witchers’ frightening appearance fuels the society’s hostility toward them. The matter is somewhat more subtle with Ciri, a witcher girl whose time with the Rats has nurtured human ugliness in her in earnest. Not only in Ciri’s memories does evil live; in that other world, now far behind her. It lives on under her skin. Her scar mars her, visually marking her with the “evil” she did not obtain through traditional witcher trials (or did she?), reminding her of the human ugliness and evil she knows lives within her. That she has perpetrated. Conversations with Vysogota helped a lot but Ciri’s self-worth – not to speak of identity – is in tatters by this point in the Saga.
Consequently, the witcher girl feels humiliated and lashes out, feeling acutely that she does not fit in this world where everything is different, beautiful, perfect, and surely, on some level of bias, “good.” Especially when someone who presents as beautiful, perfect, and good suggests Ciri ought to fit and that by raging like a little bull she is treating the kindness extended her way with contempt. Because there is something in her that makes her belong in this place, as Avallac’h insists despite her churlishness, and by being unreasonable, she is blinding herself to it.
Effectively, Crevan is giving Ciri hope. For if we recall Ciri’s initial motivation for leaving the Rats it was to re-possess her past self; a past that saw her on the path of a princess. Or an empress?
Taken at face value, for a person whose sense of self-worth and social position has been damaged, hope can be like a drug even if it infuriates because every time upon looking into the mirror “evil” looks back. Mistakes look back. Self-hatred looks back. For sure, they actually despise me; for sure this is all mockery and disrespect because I know what I really am. (Do I?) And not always have I been... decent. But if we did not want for things to be different the irritation would not occur and knowing that hurts all on its own.
Enter the bad cop.
Eredin tells Ciri outright that the part of her that has any hope of belonging anywhere in the world of the Alders is nothing more than a glimpse of gold in a pile of manure. Why yes! This sounds more like the reality Ciri has become conditioned to, doesn’t it? Rude, sure, and infuriating, yes, but at least it’s the truth! The witcher girl is no fool - she knows she is no angel. Eredin’s words strike closer to Ciri’s present self-percetion - not beautiful, not perfect, not good. He is telling a teenager what every teenager on some level believes - that others and the world hates them. A deeply harmful viewpoint to hold onto. The elf’s words reaffirm the self-hateful voices in the witcher girl’s head which sh*t on the illusion that in a world where everything is different she too could be different. Erase the scar, erase the evil - let things be different in this world’s image? Erase that old Self? ( 🚩). No, birdie, you’re mud.
At which point the good cop - who has faith in her not being mud after all - is nice enough to defend the girl against the offence.
‘You talk just like a human, Eredin.’
It’s a pretty pointed use of the word “human” there, I feel. Almost as if to combine the positive emotion aroused by defending someone with the condemnation of humankind as a whole. In short, the things you, Eredin, encourage Ciri to accept - her human ugliness and evil - are contemptible; Ciri, sweet thing, you know better than that, don’t you? Cementing by way of this classic move the impression that the “good” is on the girl’s side; despite its exasperation with her imperfection. Therefore the good’s goals are, perhaps, also worth striving for? Even if one of these aims - becoming a mother - is repulsive to me; outrageous, unbelievable! But what if I am reacting in this manner only because I have not yet tried brushing all the regrettable sh*t off the tucked-away, secret gold in me? What happened to me is not my fault. I can choose to be wiser, do better. Everything can be different.
I can be loved.
Oh, a flowering myrtle... Good thing I tried to remain above this rude creep’s insults, wasn’t it?
The one-two is psychologically brilliant because it feeds an identity crisis. The aim - to weaken from the inside and break down a sense of who a person is and what they want. Replacing whatever tatters are left with what they should want. Cooperation - when in haste - is easier if you can be the conductor of the behaviour of the subject you are trying to make cooperate with you. Handy tools for this endeavour: creating guilt for objecting to doing better and being an obstacle in the way of helping yourself; stoking the exasperation at the evil that feels like home yet does not even reward you with what you have come to expect from it  - the ability to hate.
With no satisfaction in sight, the puppet is danced around in circles.

What’s your favorite High Fantasy Story?
Oh boy. What a big question. Buckle in; this is going to take a minute.
Okay, so as you might expect, it's very hard for me to say one particular story is my absolute favourite, especially considering how I engage with the genre across many different types of media, so let me talk about a few different stories arranged by medium.
Books
Obviously the works of Tolkien are high on my list of favourites. LOTR is the ur-story of Western high fantasy.
I've mentioned it many times before, but the Starlight & Shadows trilogy by Elaine Cunningham has always been a big favourite of mine and a very formative read for me when I was a preteen. If you like DnD, elves (esp. dark elves), and/or morally complicated female protagonists, this one is for you. It also has a romance between a wizard and a barbarian and incorporates lots of aspects of Forgotten Realms lore that take inspiration from Norse and Slavic mythology.
Film and TV
LOTR defs makes this list again. I am the Spiders Georg for Times Watched LOTR Movies.
The Witcher. "But Svar, why did you list this here and not under books?" Because the books are full of misogyny. Don't get me wrong, the books have good stuff, but the Netflix series got rid of a lot of the misogyny that I greatly dislike about the books (and games). I also just really enjoy the show in its own right. The Blood Origin miniseries spinoff is super good too and I'm sad it got no attention. Are there flaws? Yes. But I really like the story they're trying to tell and Slavic folklore doesn't get nearly enough interest in Western media.
The Mythica Films. This is a series of five indie fantasy films that are clearly inspired by DnD and they are the best indie fantasy movies I've ever seen. They tell the story of a young disabled woman talented with magic who finds out she's got dark powers and has to run for her life. Matt Mercer plays the main villain and weirdly enough, these movies were the first time I ever saw him, and I was actually wary of Critical Role at first because those movies gave me the odd impression that he's an edgelord, even though he's a very sweet person irl lol.
Honor Among Thieves is brand new, but it instantly won my heart as a favourite. How can it not? It's set in DnD's Forgotten Realms and is about platonic friends raising a child together while also being about whacky heist shit. A story after my silly aspec heart.
Games
Okay, I'mma have to restrain myself and give you top five here, because otherwise we're gonna be here all day.
The Baldur's Gate Saga. Fucking old but truly great. The OG. The 90's graphics might turn a lot of people off these days, which is unfortunate, because they are amazing games, especially with the Enhanced Editions and the new Siege of Dragonspear expansions. It's the story of an unwitting child of the God of Murder, and you can either embrace what you are, struggle against it, or try to ride the line. I personally find the struggle against one's blood and supernatural urges a much more compelling story. It's the struggle to become something other than what you were made to be while also being pulled towards your destiny and have to choose what to do with the power that is given to you. It is the struggle for your soul and the souls of those you love. It is a journey to the Hells and a rise from its ashes, and you have to choose what the phoenix looks like. Also there's a man who carries a miniature giant space hamster everywhere with him and a gnome obsessed with turnips, to name just a few of the incredibly silly aspects of the story.
The Elder Scrolls series. The worldbuilding in TES is amazing for the specific reason that it's such a fucking mess. The folks at Bethesda and Zenimax have taken the unique approach of building the lore like historians collecting a bunch of conflicting primary sources. That's fucking fascinating because it makes the world feel more realistic. The real world is full of conflicting information, especially regarding history, and we all have to decide what we think is true based on the information given to us. Also TES III: Morrowind in particular is the most game of all time. You can tell it was made by a bunch of freaks and it's creatively braver than many of the major RPGs that have come out since. Bethesda just went "what if we did a game about the land of the dark elves, and that land is full of mushroom trees and all the fauna is either some sort of unique reptile, insect, or jellyfish- no it's not underground- anyway, here's an epic story about destiny, revenge, cultural conflict, and the gods being deeply flawed- also there's a bit where you have to kill a giant jellyfish with a fork you got from a lizard man called Big Head".
The Dragon Age series. All things considered, DA is a pretty conventional high dark fantasy story, but it has enough of its own unique twists and interesting writing/worldbuilding to be special to me. Each game has a different protagonist and a different type of story, but there's some themes that are consistent across the series. I would say the central theme of DA is finding the strength to do what must be done, even though you never asked for the responsibility and by rights shouldn't even be here. I think that's really compelling if you're the kind of person who has dealt with a lot of imposter syndrome in your life.
The Pillars of Eternity games. I don't think PoE gets nearly enough love. It has rich, carefully crafted lore that gets into things that other series tend to half-ass, like the linguistic aspects of the worldbuilding. Across the two games, Obsidian really delves deep into difficult discussions about mental illness, the relationship between gods and mortals, the cycle of life and death, ethics in magic, the effects of imperialism, and trying to make huge decisions when the right answer isn't clear. Also the visual style of these games is impeccable, as is the music.
Neverwinter Nights. This is where my love of DnD began. I watched my uncle play this game when I was a kid and I instantly fell in love with its whole vibe. The main campaign might hit different these days, because the story involves a deadly plague and the protag has to recover the pieces of a potential cure while also uncovering cult shit. There's a whole betrayal/scapegoat thing going on that's super tragic. Anyway, pile this one on the list of reasons I grew up to be a DnD obsessed goth.
Other
If you follow me, you're probably familiar with how much I love the DnD actual play show Critical Role. I've been watching since 2016 and I'm forever amazed at the compelling stories the cast and the dice rolls have built across three campaigns now.
Black Dice Society is my other favourite DnD actual play show. It's Ravenloft, so it's a gothic horror/high fantasy fushion. It has two seasons and tells such a beautiful story about the struggle for love and power.

31. Someone has never played a video game before but is open to trying any genre. What game would you recommend as their first?
Hugs for the Lady Captain of the Aquila.
La Fatina Lunare Giulietta 🌙 ✨
I knew my Moon Damsel would fly to me in my inbox, I missed you so much! *w*
Thank you for another ask, let's start!
4. Do you like to get 100% achievements/trophies? I usually do, especially in open world games (when the map is not insanely vast!). The more unique the collectables, trophies or challenges, the better! ^_-
5. Game(s) coming out that you’re looking forward to I can't absolutely wait for Hellblade II Senua's Saga, but unfortunately they still haven't announced a release date date yet, so... I'm (Im)patiently waiting. In the meanwhile, definitely SW Jedi: Survivor, which is out in two days!
7. A series you’ve lost interest in It might sound paradoxically absurd, but it's quite the Assassin's Creed series. The way they torn and raped the lore and gameplay mechanincs definitely threw away my slightest consideration. They lost me at Origins, which is a The Witcher 3 wanna be with a nonsense plot in my opinion. And let me say, maybe it's an unpopular opinion, but the series had to end with Syndicate.
13. Quick, name the first song from a game that comes to mind
youtube
This creepy lullaby from Outlast 2 is always on my mind when playing all horror games, don't know why! Jumpscare alert!
17. A game you didn’t finish but would like to get back to or restart someday Usually if I give up on a game is because it didn't grow on me even after days and days of gameplay, but for Remothered: Broken Porcelain this is not the case. This game was very and badly bugged at the release and still needs to be properly patched at this time, that's why I wasn't able to finish it, but I'd love to play it fluently one day and conclude the story of Jennifer.
youtube
18.A game location you really like
There are countless, I'll name a few: The Frontier in AC3 The Cemetery, Scarecrow Fields in Medievil, Kew Gardens and Wulfrum Hall in Medievil 2 Almost all the worlds of Spyro Tokyo in Ghostwire Tokyo
19. A game you started up for the first time and you knew from the start it was going to be great Oh well, so many!! It's a long long list. I just feel it when a game can give me a lot emotionally and in terms of gameplay experience.
22. A game ending that’s really stuck with you
Again, so many. Definitely the saddest ones, such as AC3, Martha is Dead, A Plague Tale: Requiem, Stray... oh, Stray destroyed me!! Some others like The Pathless, Sea of Solitude, the good ending of Sekiro.
23. A “Wow” moment of awe
That's in Control! \m/
youtube
27. A game you love the atmosphere of
Kena: Bridge of Spirits. That game has thaumaturgic places once they're purified from corruption. But also, as a horror passionate, The Suicide of Rachel Foster gave me shivers the whole time, that was perfect!
31. Someone has never played a video game before but is open to trying any genre. What game would you recommend as their first?
I would go for AC1! Linear, intuitive, also a bit repetitive (so not that hard to learn) and the story is so good to let anybody understand how deep a videogame's plot can be, just like any other form of art!
Sorry if I wasn't brief ^ ^' I hope you enjoyed
Thanks for visiting me again. A waterfall of tight hugs <3

Last Wish, flaws of characters.
I really like the first two witcher books. Not that I don’t like the saga, but I love the setup of the first two books, the short stories are great for world building, I could read short stories of Geralt for a long time.
I really like Geralt and Yennefer in these two stories. They are flawed people trying their best to live in a world that really doesn’t care two shits about them, save for the services they provide.
Geralt is in short a freelance contractor that is trying to look for work that may or may not need him. Something that has not escaped him at all. Yet his interpersonal relationships are terrible. Dandelion likes him, at first as a subject for his ballads, but second as a friend. He has very few friends, he gains friends through the saga, but not many before the books start, outside of his fellow Witchers.
Hence when he does enter a relationship with Yennefer he is very flighty, to put it lightly. He runs when it gets too much, but he still cares for her.  He wants to pay for her ability to fix her fertility issues, even though she has more money than he could ever have. Not to mention Nenneke is correct that she would be insulted by such an attempt. Rarely does he see the need to fix his interpersonal issues, because he’s never around anyone for very long.
Yennefer is very established, her abilities well known. But like Geralt she goes her own way, the show goes to great lengths to demonstrate her contempt for the “establishment” . Her abilities are in high demand, she can help with abortions, help with fertility issues, which pays her very well.  Her beauty is amazing, people are envious of her.  Like Geralt, her interpersonal skills are shit too. She’s just as flighty as he is, sleeps around, like he has. She has one friend, who is AND is not good to her.  Yet why should she change? Her beauty brings around new people, and her services are in high demand.
I feel like this is the same reason why famous people can get married over and over again. They don’t see the need to change. I’m sure anyone who has read this knows people who are exactly the same way. I know I do.
I’m not saying they don’t grow at all, they do, especially in the saga. But its interesting to see them in this moment. And it can make sense if you don’t read all the books get a certain impression of Yennefer. She’s nuanced, and I like that. Once she has a family, she uses the same skills to do whatever it takes to help them. Geralt does the same thing, in his own way.
