It’s in the Stars
I got bored and wondered what it would be like if the Sand Siblings went to a psychic after the invasion of Konoha...then this happened.
The streets of Konoha glowed with festival lights and the smiles of its patrons. Shinobi and civilians alike came from all over the Five Nations to celebrate the arrival of the winter season with snow sculptures, illuminations, food stalls, and other various activities. Despite the recent invasion that interrupted the Chunin Exams, the people of Konoha welcomed visitors with open arms. This came as a surprise to a few festival goers, but the ones who were most confused about this warm hospitality were the Suna genin who played a big role in the invasion. It was only a few months ago they came to this village with the intention of destroying it. Now they walked its streets trying to repair the shaky alliance they had. As the late Kazekage’s children and the students of a highly respected councilman, they had been asked to accompany their sensei to Konoha to partake in the ongoing discussions of a stronger alliance.
This mission was met with much doubt by the youngest of the genin. Sabaku no Gaara thought it would be best if he abstained from being a part of this delegation since it was he who was the one meant to destroy the village, using the demon within him. The fact he was also the Kazekage’s disowned son didn’t help either. However, the Suna council believed if he could appear before Konoha’s with his new, docile attitude, they would be more willing to come to an agreement. His siblings also thought it’d be a good chance for him to practice his social skills. In the past, he wouldn’t have cared about his siblings’ opinions or his social skills, but recently he’d come to realize the importance of these things.
Ever since the invasion he began to notice the role his siblings played in his life. Sure, they had feared him and may at times resented him, but as he looked back at his chaotic childhood, he realized they were his only constant. No matter how many times he threatened their lives or treated them as though they were nothing more than lumps of flesh, they always came back to him. As he laid on the forest floor, unable to move as an enemy ninja inched toward him, he thought it was the end for him; no one would come save him, and why should anyone? What had he done that would warrant saving? Then his view of the Uzumaki was obstructed. His siblings had jumped in between him and his attacker. Beaten and battered themselves, they were still ready to protect him.
All these thoughts raced through his mind as he walked side by side with his siblings in the middle of a festival held in the village he was once intent on destroying. They had finished their discussions for the day and were trying to find a way back to their hotel through the hectic streets.
“We should really get something to eat, jan,” his brother interrupted his thoughts, and suddenly he was aware of the faint rumbling in his stomach.
Gaara looked around at all the stalls that surrounded them, but most of them seemed to be void of food and filled with trinkets and activities. If they were going to get food from the festival, they would probably have to venture deeper into it which is something he really preferred they didn’t do. He had a hard time being around people, but his stomach was betraying him. He was thankful for his sister’s response telling them they can get food at the hotel they were staying in rather than wandering around in the snow, weaving in and out of crowds searching for food stalls.
“Aw, c’mon, Tem. We might as well enjoy the festival while we’re here!”
“Kankuro, we’re not here for a vacation. We have a mission we need to focus on.”
“The meeting’s done for the day, we can afford to relax and have some fun! Maybe we’ll run into that shadow kid who kicked your ass in the exams,” Kankuro elbowed his sister teasingly which earned him a swift punch in the jaw.
“Like you did any better in your fight. Besides, that’s another reason why we should head back to the hotel. We didn’t exactly leave on good terms with a lot of these people,” Temari responded, then quickly realized the crestfallen look that appeared oh her youngest brother’s face, “None of us did, we all messed up.” She put a comforting hand on his shoulder, an action she didn’t think was possible until they returned home from the exams.
The redhead looked up at his sister with a small, appreciative smile. While he was still ashamed of his actions, he liked how close he had gotten with his siblings in such a short time. They still had tension among them, but were slowly becoming more comfortable around each other.
Kankuro, still rubbing his jaw after being hit by his sister, was still determined to make the most out of this boring-ass mission, “Look! There’s a fortune teller in that tent! Since you’re so cold, maybe we can go in there and warm up while we find out our fortunes!”
Gaara rolled his eyes at his older brother while Temari voiced his thoughts, “Don’t tell me you actually believe in all that stuff, Kankuro. It’s just some hack tryna make a quick buck,” Temari said.
“You guys are no fun. Who cares if it’s real or not it’s just a fun thing to do!” He grabbed his younger brother by his shoulders, positioning him in front of their sister, “Gaara needs to learn how to loosen up and have fun! This is a perfect opportunity!” He smirked, knowing Temari would cave if he used Gaara. None of them had a normal childhood, but it was Gaara who grew up faster than his older siblings. Since the betrayal of his uncle at the age of six, he was basically on his own. He didn’t waste time on frivolous activities like fortune telling or hanging out with friends because he was too focused on surviving. His eyes widened in fear as he looked up at his sister, silently pleading for her to say no.
Temari sighed. She much rather go back to the hotel and avoid seeing anyone they met during the exams, especially that Nara kid. She didn’t want to hear any sexist gloating about how he let her win. But as she looked into her youngest brother’s nervous, mint eyes, she knew it would be good for him to get out of his comfort zone a little.
“Alright, we’ll do it.”
Kankuro pumped his fist in victory while the dread on Gaara’s face grew. He didn’t have much time to sulk about it though as his brother dragged him towards the psychic’s tent. Sometimes he really missed when his sand stopped his siblings from touching him.
A strong scent of incense attacked their olfactory senses as the siblings made their way into the tent. Temari and Gaara both coughed a bit because of the overwhelming sensation while Kankuro began to look around. It was a small space filled with crystals and candles spewed all over the place. In the middle of the tent there was a low table covered with a purple tablecloth with cushions in front and an older woman sitting behind it. She greeted the genin and gestured for them to sit down.
“Hello, children. I am Kesshō. What brings you to me this lovely evening?”
“Shouldn’t you know,” Gaara scoffed under his breath, but loud enough for his siblings to hear. Temari laughed while Kankuro chose to get back at his siblings for their mockery. He began speaking to Kesshō, “We were walking through the festival and my sister here just had to come in and find out about her love life. She can’t stop talking about this guy she met here a few months ago and wants to know if there’s a future with him.” He looked deviously over at Temari whose jaw was agape.
Before she had time to defend herself, Kesshō chuckled, “Ah, yes, I’ve had many people come to me for love. Why don’t we see what the cards have to say about that, hm? A reading is only 1,000 ryō!”
Kankuro slapped the money on the table with lighting reflexes without letting Temari get a word in edgewise. The older woman took the payment and began shuffling her deck of cards she had next to a crystal ball on the table. She placed five cards on the table in front of them, facing the siblings so they could have a good view of what appeared on the cards. The first card she laid out was the Emperor, depicting a man in elaborate, golden robes sitting on a throne. The next card she placed next to the first showed an armored man on a horse holding what appeared to be a coin. The third card had a star and was incidentally named the Star. The fourth card had two people holding two cups. The last card Kesshō laid out pictured an angel with the word Temperance above it.
“My, my,” Kesshō began. “This looks very promising. This card here,” she pointed to the first card she laid out, “represents you, young lady. It is called the Emperor. The Emperor is otherwise known as the Father of the tarot. It symbolizes protection and stability, but is also known to be stubborn.”
Kankuro snickered at the description, that definitely sounded like his sister.
“This next card represents your potential partner, it is the Knight of Pentacles. The Knight of Pentacles relates to common sense and responsibility. Your potential partner is a practical man who values commitment.”
“Kinda sounds like that shadow kid, huh, Tem?” Kankuro was enjoying this immensely as his sister rolled her eyes and continued to listen to the rest of the reading.
“The card next to the Knight of Pentacles is the Star. Its position in this spread shows the potential of the relationship. Generally, the Star is a symbol of hope and means you have preserved through a challenge in your life,” Temari straightened up as she heard this description. She had overcome years of living in fear of her youngest brother, and now the dust was beginning to settle as he became more human. She began to listen to Kesshō more intently, “In terms of the potential of this relationship, it is a good sign. The Star is meant to be optimistic in terms of love.”
“This fourth card here is called the Two of Cups which usually refers to mutual understanding. In this spread, it is the advice the cards have for you regarding this relationship. They want you to look within your heart, and find the courage to go through with a relationship with this person because there is a good chance he feels the same way!” Kesshō exclaimed happily.
At this point, Kankuro was barely containing his laughter as he saw his sister’s face flush.
Kesshō finished her reading with the final card, “The last card is called Temperance and is associated with balance and harmony. In terms of love and its position as the fifth and final card in this spread, it is the likely outcome of the relationship. This man is your perfect fit, and your relationship will be harmonious.”
“Hmph, then it’s definitely not that Nara kid. All we’d ever do is argue, there’d be no harmony whatsoever.”
“Keep telling yourself that, Temari,” Kankuro said as he set his sights on his brother. Gaara was staring off into the distance looking rather disinterested. He had been half-listening to what Kesshō was telling his sister, but couldn’t force himself to give his full attention when he thought it was all nonsense. These cards and their meanings were so vague they could mean anything to anyone.
He was about to get up and leave thinking they had stood out of the cold long enough to be warmed up when his brother set another 1,000 ryō on the table and told Kesshō, “My brother is also very interested in his love life!”
Gaara looked at his brother through narrowed, mint eyes. If this had been a few months ago, he’d be in a sand coffin right about now. However, before either brother could speak, Kesshō held up her hand, “No, that’s not right. He’s looking for answers, but not about romantic love. No, you’re more worried about the future aren’t you?”
Gaara turned his suspicious gaze to the older woman in front of him, only to divert it to the floor when she began studying him, “Yes, you’ve had an interesting life for someone so young. You’re worried your past will greatly affect your future. I have a spread for you, young man.” She began to reshuffle her deck and laid out three cards; one had eight swords surrounding a blindfolded woman on it, the second had eight cups with a man walking away from them, towards a tough terrain, and the third had a woman holding a coin similar to that the Knight of Pentacles was holding.
She pointed to the first card, “This represents your past. The swords are a suit that usually relate to unhappiness. The Eight of Swords shows you’ve felt powerless, imprisoned even. You have been in a tough situation you’ve felt you couldn’t escape.”
Gaara tensed as he recalled the demon literally imprisoned within him. It was quite ironic that Shukaku was sealed inside Gaara, yet it was the redheaded boy who seemed to be the prisoner. For years he did as the demon told, craving the praise it gave him every time he inflicted pain upon others. No one else had offered their love or kind words to him; his father spoiled him as a child through material wants and desires, but never once showing love through any other means, not even a simple “I love you.” There was a time he thought his uncle’s kind words to him were signs of affection only to learn later they were nothing but lies. After being shut down by the two parental figures in his life, he turned to the demon who called itself Mother and whispered comforting words every time he obeyed it. Mother was always with him, constantly speaking to him, commanding him to harm others. He couldn’t make Mother stop talking, and as much as he hates to admit it, sometimes he didn’t want to; he liked it when Mother praised him because it was the only time he felt valued and loved even if the feeling was fleeting. Which is why Kesshō’s wording caused him to uncharacteristically ask a question, “Felt I couldn’t escape?”
Both his siblings looked at him in shock at his inquiry for clarification, but Kesshō seemed to be expecting it, “Yes, you may have felt like you couldn’t escape, but you were able. You should know because you have. The Eight of Swords represents the feeling of being stuck and imprisoned yes, but it can also be self-imposed. You may have felt powerless to escape the tough situation you were in, however, you always possessed the tools to escape. It seems you recently learned that your beliefs and views on life were no longer helping you get what you wanted in life. You’ve exchanged them for more optimistic beliefs which have brought you out of  that terrible situation and placed you in more favorable company.”
She looked at his siblings beside him and continued on, “Which leads me to your next card, the Eight of Cups. This is your present. You can see the man has his back turned on the eight cups as he walks away towards the mountains. This is you, is it not? You’ve felt the need to move on from your past, but you’ve noticed it is a difficult path to take. It is strange and unfamiliar, but the path you were on before no longer served a meaningful purpose,” she pointed again to the first card with the trapped woman.
The young boy began to feel uneasy as the older woman voiced his fears, “You do not know what lies ahead,” she reached toward the final card and cast a reassuring glance in his direction, “but hopefully I can put your thoughts at ease with this. This is the Queen of Pentacles and it represents your future. You can tell by the way the Queen cradles the pentacle in her arms she is loving and gentle by nature. She performs domestic duties flawlessly as well as emotionally cares for her loved ones. Nevertheless, she is also a financial supporter for her family and contributes greatly in her career.”
Despite the uneasiness his brother felt as this woman was manifesting his thoughts and fears, Kankuro couldn’t but laugh as he pictured Gaara “performing domestic duties.” Until recently, they had lived in separate places, their father wanting to ensure the safety of his other two children by keeping the demon container away from them. Kankuro had never seen his brother do any chores before. This coupled with the fact the redhead used to tear humans limb for limb as a hobby made it funny to picture the great and powerful Sabaku no Gaara calmly cooking dinner with a pristine white apron tied around his waist.
Said redhead was too entranced in his thoughts to care about his brother’s laughter at his expense. Kesshō too ignored the painted-faced older boy as she clarified what his future could entail, “While you are unsure of the path you are on now, it will be worth it in the long run. You will be dedicated to your family and in turn feel at peace in your home.”
Now, Gaara glanced at his siblings. They were the only family he had left and while they weren’t exactly too close, he felt they were getting there, but was afraid something would mess it up as something always seemed to have done in the past. He didn’t know if it would be himself or an outside force which is another unknown that scared him even if he’d never admit it just yet. Then another thought popped into his head, “She contributes to her career as well?”
Lately, Gaara had been thinking of the best way to make amends for what he had done to his village. The Uzumaki’s goal was to become Hokage to which many scoffed at the idea. Before he met Uzumaki, he didn’t think much about the position of Kazekage; the person who is supposed to lead, protect, and inspire hope. His father never did any of that. However, Uzumaki did inspire him to make bonds with those around him. He started with his siblings and it was going well, giving him hope that one day he can have these bonds with others in his village.
“Yes, the Queen of Pentacles has many talents and a great sense of compassion and protection she extends to people in and out of her home,” Kesshō answered.
For a while now he had felt the need to protect his people from himself. He thought it would be best to hide himself away where he couldn’t hurt anyone which is why he didn’t want to partake in this mission. Yet, this woman was voicing his thoughts and showing him other ways he can protect others; not by hiding, but rather by being an active member of his village through accepting difficult missions and guarding his village. Perhaps he could even be the leader his father failed to be.
Gaara continued to ponder her words while her gaze shifted to the middle child sitting before her. She had succeeded in stunning his siblings into silence, now it was time she went three for three, “And you, you're looking for something else too. Your identity, who exactly are you behind that mask?”
“Huh, oh uh you mean this,” the young man pointed to the face paint he adorned, “I wouldn’t say it’s a mask...well I guess it kinda is, but not ‘cause I’m tryna hide anything...except maybe in battle, bu-”
Once again, Kesshō silenced him with a raised hand and in one swift motion she swiped the cards used for his brother’s reading, shuffling them back into the deck. In the blink of an eye three more cards were laid out in front of them.
“Hold up, I didn’t even pay you ye-” Temari cut him off with a loud slap of 1,000 ryō on the table. She looked at her middle brother with an evil glint in her eye and a sly smile on her lips. Payback felt good. Even Gaara let out a small chuckle at his sister’s lightning reflexes and the trepidation on his brother’s face.
Kesshō removed the money from the table and started the reading, “These three cards represent your situation, what you should do, and the likely outcome if you follow the advice the cards have for you. This card here,” a slender finger with a perfectly manicured nail pointed to a card with a man standing over three broken cups with two intact one behind him, “is the Five of Cups. You’re stuck in the past, young man. You focus too much on bitter memories, leaving you to wallow in disappointment. Something is preventing you from moving forward, something you know and something you have the ability to change. Yet, you hide behind this mask of yours.”
He traced the familiar lines of paint along his face with his fingertips, a pattern he wore for years. Puppeteers were never required to wear the face paint, but he had always opted for it during missions as well as just hanging out. He continually told himself true masters of puppetry wore the paint, but the truth was he didn’t like what he saw every time he looked in the mirror, face void of purple paint. He was the spitting image of his father, a man who caused his family so much grief. Putting on this mask, he thought he was throwing away the memories of his father, but he was just hiding them.
His attention was brought back to Kesshō as she tapped her nail on the next card, “Here is the Two of Wands. This calls for you to assess your situation. Think about who you really blame for the trauma holding you back. I could see you were doing some of this already while you were caressing your face,” a faint blush tinted his cheeks as he brought his hand down, he hadn’t realized he was repeating the lines over and over again.
“Once you have a clearer idea of what is bothering you, a plan needs to be made. What can you do to toss these memories aside,” Kesshō finished the explanation of this card, leaving her words to sink into Kankuro’s mind.
He thought about removing his paint from his ensemble, he can’t let his father control his life from beyond the grave, but he still held a deep respect for his craft and its traditions. Maybe he didn’t have to remove it altogether. His advice was to change, not to completely detach such an important aspect from his life. If he did a new design, it could mean he can finally get rid of the mask he used to hide from his father’s face, getting rid of those memories with it, and adorn a new one that had nothing to do with the man, and it will be associated with newer, happier memories. The realization of change becoming a recurring theme within his family caused him to think they are all entering a new chapter in life. A new chapter calls for a new design. From now on, when he applied the new lines on his face, he’ll do it not to spite his father, but instead to symbolize how far he’s come.
After Kankuro came up with the plan to redesign his paint, he looked at the final card on the table. Kesshō followed his gaze and explained his last card, “This is the Queen of Wands. She is confident and determined. If you follow through with the advice given to you, you too will share her qualities. Even the most challenging situations you will come across will be faced head on by you with courage and optimism.”
Kankuro liked the sound of that. He often presented himself as a cocky, assertive guy, but much like his mask, it was to hide his insecurities. He had quite a few if he was being honest. Being the middle child did not help with these insecurities. His older sister always had an easier time thinking for herself and voicing her opinions whereas he tended to follow the instruction of his father. His younger brother was a much stronger shinobi than he was, and excelled in academics which were not his strong suit mostly due to the fact he preferred to have fun during his study sessions while his brother was tutored privately, leaving him no choice but to focus on his studies. The idea of being as self-assured as his siblings in various aspects of their lives sat well with Kankuro.
Movement from outside the tent caused all three siblings to stir out of their trance. It appeared more people wanted their fortunes read. Kesshō thanked them for coming by as they stood to leave and wished them well. Each sibling nodded or grunted some form of a goodbye as they exited the tent.
As usual, Kankuro was the one ready to speak first, “Okay that was creepy that old lady really made us face what we didn’t want to think about”
“Maybe for you and Gaara, but she didn't choose my spread for me,” Temari pointed out.
“Aha! So you did want to see your compatibility with that shadow kid!”
“That’s not what I meant! You told her I wanted a love spread and she did it, but you told her Gaara wanted one too and she didn’t do one for him!”
“Maybe because you basically have every other aspect of your life under control right now except for your love life! Count yourself lucky you aren’t as much as a dysfunctional mess as me and Gaara, right, little bro?”
Gaara merely looked at his brother, pulled from his thoughts momentarily. He was still trying to process what the old lady had said. He didn’t know if she was a hack or not, but as he listened to his siblings bicker, going back to the fight about where to get food again, the idea of three of them growing even closer than they are now made him follow them through the lit streets with a small smile.

► NAME
Beauregard Solomon Ghast
► ARE YOU SINGLE?
Happily taken!
► ARE YOU HAPPY?
For the most part... Usually.
► ARE YOU ANGRY?
Not so much anymore. In the past, I could be downright wraithlike. I have become much more laid back in recent decades.
► ARE YOUR PARENTS STILL MARRIED?
Yes, although in their last visit, mother and father's relationship seemed... shall we say... rocky. But they're adults and they will do as they will
💕 NINE FACTS!
► ‘BIRTH’ PLACE
On the outskirts of the Black Forest in Germany.
► HAIR COLOR
As white as a full moon.
► EYE COLOR
The right is green, and the left lost its color with its sight back when the Cat attacked me.
► BIRTHDAY
January 29, 1856.
► MOOD
Generally pleasant, I'd like to think, if maybe at times a little sporadic.
► GENDER
Male
► SUMMER OR WINTER
Of the two, winter; however, I prefer fall overall.
► MORNING OR AFTERNOON
Morning, pre-sunrise. The land is still in slumber, and the world is bathed in hues of gray... It's as if time moves in slow motion, caught in-between night and day. Sigh... It's beautiful.
💕 EIGHT THINGS ABOUT YOUR LOVE LIFE!
► ARE YOU IN LOVE?
Hm hm, six feet deep.
► DO YOU BELIEVE IN LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT?
Hmmm... Perhaps infatuation at first sight, but not love... Correction: True love I do not believe happens at first sight, anyway. I think that develops with time, as you create a connection with another soul.
► WHO ENDED YOUR LAST RELATIONSHIP?
I did. It was a mercy killing. I was pushing for something that wasn't truly reciprocated to begin with, and... Erm, I don't really wish to discuss it. Moving on.
► HAVE YOU EVER BROKEN SOMEONE’S HEART?
I certainly hope I haven't. Uh... I haven't, have I?
► ARE YOU AFRAID OF COMMITMENTS?
Not at all. I'm nothing if not loyal.
► HAVE YOU HUGGED SOMEONE WITHIN THE LAST WEEK?
Oh, I've hugged someone within the last hour. I'm quite affectionate when I want to be.
► HAVE YOU EVER HAD A SECRET ADMIRER?
I--I don't think so, aside from my darling wife before she confessed her feelings to me, if that even counts. I've never recieved flowers with anonymous notes, or that sort of thing.
► HAVE YOU EVER BROKEN YOUR OWN HEART?
Um, y-yes... Yes... That's... That's all I'll say on the matter.
💕 SIX CHOICES!
► LOVE OR LUST
Love. Lust is fun, don't get me wrong, but it is a temporary, corruptible state.
► LEMONADE OR ICED TEA
I like to mix the two together, actually. Earl Grey lemonade is one of my favorite drinks.
► CATS OR DOGS
That's difficult. I love most animals. You may find this peculiar, but my encounter with the One Eyed Black Cat has not put me off any affection towards felines. I've taken care of more dogs than cats, though. I suppose that's an answer?
► A FEW BEST FRIENDS OR MANY REGULAR FRIENDS
A few. Quality over quantity. Although with my current un-living arrangement, I'm certainly at no shortage of fiendish friends.
► WILD NIGHT OUT OR ROMANTIC NIGHT IN
Romantic night in. A comfortable couch, a low fire in the hearth, two bottles of wine, and the gentle tapping of rain drops on the window...
► DAY OR NIGHT
Night, of corpse, hm hm.
💕 FIVE HAVE YOU EVERS!
► BEEN CAUGHT SNEAKING OUT
On more than one occasion. Mostly innocent excursions, I assure you. The ones that weren't so innocent... Those were the days I tried escaping from The Acropolis Asylum. Punishment was swift and brutal.
► FALLEN DOWN/UP THE STAIRS
Both, actually. How do you fall up the stairs, you ask? Trip on the upside down staircase.
► WANTED SOMETHING/SOMEONE SO BADLY IT HURT?
... Yes.
► WANTED TO DISAPPEAR
More times times than I care to count, especially in my youth. Nowadays, however, I can simply vanish at will.
💕  FIVE PREFERENCES!
► SMILE OR EYES
You know, if you get into this sort of debate with a ghost, you can get fairly horrific results. I recall a young lady in Japan who-- I'm getting off topic. A-hem.
Is it fair to say a mixture of the two? Allow me to explain. I love when a smile reaches the eyes. When someone is truly happy, you can see that little crinkle at the edges of their eyelids. True joy is difficult to simply imitate.
► FAT OR SKINNY
I've never given it much thought. Looking back, however, I definitely do appreciate-- how do the mortals phrase it?-- 'a little meat on their bones,' hm hm.
► SHORTER OR TALLER
Either or, I suppose. It's rare I've had a mate taller than myself. There is something sinisterly fun about looming over a loved one before slipping down for a kiss, hm hm hm.
► INTELLIGENCE OR ATTRACTION
I find intelligence attractive. Granted, kindness is higher up on my list. That said, I generally won't find someone physically attractive until I get to know them as a person.
💕 FAMILY!
► DO YOU AND YOUR FAMILY GET ALONG
So long as the in- laws aren't involved, yes. I never got along with my sister's husband and his ilk.
► WOULD YOU SAY YOU HAVE A “MESSED UP LIFE”
Hmm, indeed. Well, "had," anyway. Past tense. It's what led to me taking "my way." Existence has gotten far more tolerable in the past few decades.
► HAVE YOU EVER RAN AWAY FROM HOME
No. Life, I wanted to run away from, not home. At least home was safe... for the most part.
► HAVE YOU EVER GOTTEN KICKED OUT
If you count my father taking me to the asylum when I was a teenager, then yes.
💕 FRIENDS!
► DO YOU SECRETLY HATE ONE OF YOUR FRIENDS
I did once... I consider it one of the lowest points of my entire existence.
► DO YOU CONSIDER ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS GOOD FRIENDS
Yes. Die-spite our occasional bickering, I have no doubt of their loyalty or the goodness in their hearts... Erm, please do ignore the fact their physical hearts were eaten by worms ages ago.
► WHO IS YOUR BEST FRIEND
My dearest, deadest Caiti.
► WHO KNOWS EVERYTHING ABOUT YOU
See above please. Although, who knows what Madame Leota could uncover in a one-on-one tarot card reading.

A Spooky Tarot Reading
ROSE: Thank you for joining me, Jade.
JADE: was this really necessary rose
ROSE: Was what necessary, exactly?
JADE: all the candles and the spooky decor and the obviously fake cobwebs you put everywhere and the possibly real bones in little piles
ROSE: When it comes to austere rituals, decor is of the utmost import. What would any spiritual onlookers think were I have not to sprung for the Premium Cobweb ambience or the Real Bone Pile experience? Say’th thee not should any wayward souls think that I, Rose Lalonde, would skimp even the most trivial of decorative festoons on tonight, the most Ha-
JADE: aaarrgghhh i get it!!! its a very spooky night can we just do this really silly tarot reading? im missing out on candy and pumpkin carving :c
ROSE: Yes. Just one more cursory shuffle of the deck...
ROSE: Now, place your hand upon the cards.
JADE: okay...
ROSE: Jade Harley.
JADE: :0 yes?
ROSE: Hold on. Jade Harley.
JADE: ...
ROSE: Are you open to the powers that be? Is your mind ready to be read and your future foretold by otherworldly spirits? Be you ready to supp deep from the chalice of remedial soothsaying?
JADE: yes
ROSE: Very well. We draw your first card.
ROSE: Ah. The Chariot Upright. The spirits recognize that you play a pivotal role in decision making. The choices you make are crucial to those around you, and you show a willingness to take the reigns. You will soon find yourself with newfound power in addition to a greater responsibility.
JADE: isnt that kind of true for everyone though
ROSE: What do you mean?
JADE: i mean i feel like basically every choice anyone makes affects everyone anyway not just mine :/
ROSE: Yes, but yours especially are key to the success of our collective fates. As the Lady of Space, I’d have thought this would be obvious.
JADE: ohhh okay okay so this is more like a recognition card?? like confirming who i am or something
ROSE: Exactly. The next card will also confirm a weakness of yours.
ROSE: The Hermit Reversed. Despite your role in leading the way forward, this tends to isolation and loneliness. Your endeavours go unrecognized, and your deeds, while important, occur most often when no one is able to appreciate the gravity of your role. You will find yourself alone at some point, put there either by extraneous circumstances or... by your own doing.
JADE: ...
ROSE: Does that sound accurate?
JADE: i dont think i like this game rose :I
ROSE: It isn’t a game.
JADE: i know! its a bunch of fakey fake magic that you are doing when you are literally the Seer of Light!!
ROSE: Magic is real, Jade.
JADE: okay but not this magic
ROSE: This magic is real too.
JADE: uuughh
ROSE: We’re almost done. The next cards will spell your fate.
ROSE: The Fool Reversed. The Fool is generally seen as the main protagonist of the story, but Reversed is a warning against trying to take on too much at once. The Fool’s Journey is often the focus of a story, but it can quickly turn into a Fool’s Errand if he’s stretched too thin.
JADE: so...
ROSE: So perhaps you should let others shoulder a bit more responsibility. Although I suppose that might be easier if we actually had others to shift the responsibility to.
JADE: hehe yeah maybe lets not let dove have control of the ship
ROSE: Next is... Death Upright.
JADE: :O oh no
ROSE: No, no. This is good. Death symbolizes an end to all things trivial. I surmise that should you pave the way ahead (letting others steer a bit, of course), our goals will become clear as the chaff clears away. Death in this case represents progress, a way forward.
JADE: you mean like...
ROSE: Like we might find the others and get our session restarted.
JADE: that actually sounds pretty nice
ROSE: I’m glad you think so. Now, your last card...
ROSE: The Lovers Upright.
JADE: :o
ROSE: ...
JADE: ...
ROSE: ...
JADE: what
ROSE: ...
JADE: did you forget what this card means rose
ROSE: The Lovers Upright represents a choice. An irreversible one.
JADE: like my Choice?
ROSE: No. Well, yes. But that’s probably not the choice this refers to. The Lovers predominantly deals with relationships. Whether it be starting a new relationship... or ending an old one, your decision in the matter will be everlasting. Like Knowledge of Good and Evil.
JADE: ...
ROSE: This isn’t limited to romantic relationships either. The Lovers deals with all relationships -- platonic, business, everything.
JADE: hm
ROSE: Hm.
JADE: sooooo...
ROSE: The fact that The Lovers appeared last symbolizes that your efforts, your journey, everything culminating towards the end... is about people. The people you hold dear. From the dearest lover to the lowliest consort, you surround yourself with others because they are your most valuable treasure, one you value possibly above your own life.
JADE: jeeeeeeeze
ROSE: Yes?
JADE: i thought this was going to be a funny little thing where you tell me that im going to win the pumpkin carving contest but only if i spin around 3 times and say bloody harley in the mirror
JADE: not a thorough character assassination my gosh :4
ROSE: Sorry. This was a bit silly, in hindsight. Let’s get you to that pumpkin carving contest. I heard the prize this year is a huge box of candy.
ROSE: I love you, Jade.
JADE:  wh- i-
ROSE: Come, we’ve no time to waste. Rumor has it June has been honing her skills this year. Dovesp- Dove told me June had an unbeatable idea.
JADE: psshh not if i have anything to say about it! lets gooo!! C:
