...okay this was supposed to be a tag rant on another post I was drafting, but this kind of makes a better point than what I was writing originally so let me try that again.
The thing about Edér Pillars Of Eternity and his theme of second chances is that not only that theme is everywhere for him (seriously. I did Not remember it being that present in his early dialogue but IT IS) but that his relationship with it changes over time.
At first, he's a worshipper of the god of second chances. Then, he is the one being offered a second chance, not by his god, but by a stranger who saves him from being hanged by literally just giving him something else to do with his life. Then, in Deadfire, he is the one delivering the Watcher's second chance, dragging them out of Caed Nua after it's been destroyed by Eothas. At that moment, he's closer to the embodiment of second chances than Eothas himself, which is kind of wild and exactly the kind of character arc I find fun, apparently.

I don't like DDLC'S MC very much on a very petty level but I still wish there was more fic or meta speculation about him. I'm not interested in him as a character, though, because he's barely a character. Literally by the game's standards, he has no inherent "character file." He is the SCRIPT, if anything. All of his thoughts and actions occur within the little text bubble at the bottom of the screen, and so do the characters'. He barely appears in CGs, has no body sprite, and it is through his observations and his thoughts and his call to make choices that the game progresses.
I think that specific trait of MC is fascinating, especially given how deep reaching Monika's manipulation is. During Act 1 he is active, he is talkative, he has a definitive (and yet inconsistent, based on which girl(s) you're speaking to) personality. He has thoughts about just about everything going on. And yet in Act 2 he is reduced to dust. He stops having any kind of commentary and he almost never remarks upon the horrible occurrences around him unless prompted or unless it is something that could plausibly happen in the realm of reality, like Yuri abandoning him for 10 minutes and Natsuki collapsing on him. But even then he's still significantly muted. Yuri and Natsuki have a horrible fight and the only kind of response he tries to throw out is co-opted by Monika. He witness Yuri declare her love for him and talk about how she would love to pull his skin open and crawl inside of him and the only thing he has to say is "yes" or "no" when she asks if he likes her back. And then he physically cannot move or speak or react because the world is so far gone that Yuri's death has damaged him, the script, so much that all he hears is gibberish coming from her lifeless mouth.
And like... that's neat to me. I like that by the end of Act 2 the script is so off the rails and so far gone from reality that MC can no longer really function as a person, because the script is barely functioning. He stops reacting to anything happening around him and most of the conversations he has are just the girls talking at him. Monika has to literally rewrite the script and force Yuri and Natsuki to say things to further her agenda or keep the scene rolling. MC had a clear and very human response to Sayori's death because it was a plausible but horrible (and not forced) event that could happen naturally. Yuri's death was so jarring and away from the scope of the natural order of his world that MC (and Yuri, by extension) can only sit frozen and broken until Natsuki and Monika show up to force new progress.
Like Monika's effect on the girls has been talked to death and it is an interesting topic but I also think what she unintentionally did to the POV character of the game is also something neat. It really adds to the feeling of the world in DDLC being hollow. The MC is a half-character who can only react in incredibly predictable ways, and when the world stops being predictable, he stops being anything more than a walking camera for Monika to speak into.
#ddlc#this isnt even really a character analysis this is just my vague jumbled thoughts on this guy#ive always found mc interesting even if he irritates me#when i was bored and a middle schooler i used to imagine this self insert of mine in his place#what choices would she make if she knew the ddlc world was a farce? what choices would she make if she didnt?#would she be beholden to the game structure and choices written in the game's script?#could she change anything? how would she feel if she knew the girls in a context where they were her normal friends?#these scenarios were of course some random shit i thought about to make PE less awful#but it made me think of how horrible and strange it would be in mc's position#and subsequently how mc himself kind of never gets the chance to BE in his own position in a way#he is fully beholden to the whims of monika and whatever the girls around him are doing at all times in act 2#even in act 1 his personality and motivations fluctuates constantly depending on which girl u are talking to#mc is the script and the script is mc. he never had a chance to change anything and neither did you#the only way you can do anything in that world is to be a character a .chr a person. and mc is not a person in any meaningful sense#on the topic of 'hey wouldnt it be fucked up to actually experience ddlc as a Thinking Person'#'to your eternity' (anonymous author) on ao3 specifically chapter 1 of it is a cool fic based on that thought#anyways. i know mc mostly just shuts up because it would be lame if every time yuri's eyes bug out he's like 'jeepers creepers!!!'#but i think his dwindling presence makes him an interesting non-character ❤️#doki doki literature club

The Time Traveller and the Eternal Queen
If Layton and Janice parallel one another, then so do their partners, Claire and Melina.
In the present of their respective stories, Claire and Melina are both ghosts. Memories. Dead women walking.
One died ten years prior to PL3 in an experiment gone wrong. The other died of illness a year before Eternal Diva.
It’s easy to blame Bill Hawks for Claire’s ‘killing’, but what if they hadn’t run the experiment early, behind Dimitri’s back? What if they have worked through those fatal complications? Travelling through time still would have been a dangerous endeavour, regardless, and I think Claire still would have offered to be the test subject.
There’s no one to blame for Melina’s illness, unless you believe the Azran marked her with the same fate as the Ambrosian queen. (It’s me, I believe that because Azran were awful.) I’m sure Whister and Descole did everything they could to cure Melina. Maybe a Golden Garden with its pure air could have helped…
Although Claire appears in the present, her body shows signs of molecular instability. Dimitri— gripped by heartbreak and guilt and pride— struggles to stabilise Claire’s existence, like Whistler and even Janice fight to stabilise Melina’s existence.
In the Eternal Diva novelisation, after Melina’s death, Melina describes waking up in Janice’s body and communicating with Janice. Melina is determined to ‘disappear’ (much like Claire wanted to disappear) but Janice insists she needs to stay.
“I’ve just found you again… Do you realise how much I missed you? I can’t let you go on like this. This isn’t just for you. This is also for me. Melina, you may not understand, but the grief and suffering of those left behind is so strong… Losing my best friend not once, but twice, would surely break my heart…”
Janice’s determination and desperation here reminds me so much of Dimitri!
Melina champions Janice’s self-sacrifice and her noble, pure heart. If you look at Dimitri in another light, his ten long years of dedication to the time travel and saving Claire could be seen as noble and self-sacrificing… kidnapping scientists aside!
Janice voluntarily buries her personality and persuades Melina to stay, so there’s no problem, right…?
I love how Melina enjoys living life through Janice and it takes Melina a while (Maybe a couple of months?) to realise this is wrong, both for her and for Janice. The two of them need to move on, even if it hurts.
It makes Melina feel more flawed and realistic. It makes me wonder if Claire had similar hopes of surviving when she first landed in the present.
Claire and Melinas’ lives were preserved through scientific means that broke the laws of nature— requiring memories— by grieving loved ones, who were manipulated by a mastermind.
Claire begged Dimitri to quit his work on the time machine and to free the kidnapped scientists. Melina wanted her father to stop stealing the lives with the Detragon so that she could survive.
When Claire and Melina felt they alone couldn’t get through to their misguided ‘saviours’, they turned to Hershel Layton.
‘Celeste’, after helping the gang escape from the research facility, confides to Layton that she knows Claire was quite fond of him. Melina, after her identity is revealed, admits that Janice is very fond of the Professor indeed.
Melina, through Janice, wrote to the professor. Although Janice had assured Melina he would be able to help, Melina kept her identity hidden. Maybe Melina feared her father and Descole would find out, which would have made it difficult for her to slip away.
Claire pretended to be ‘Celeste’, her younger sister. This would have spared Layton, Paul and others from more heartbreak…
Unfortunately, when Layton reveals Melina’s identity, this enables Descole to complete his plan. He whisks Melina away on the Detra-Gigant and orders her to sing A Song of the Sea. Melina— hoping to save her father and friends— complies. Layton and Luke, in turn, fly up to save Melina.
There’s nothing wrong with a character needing to be saved, as long as they’re given time to interact with others and actually… be a character, as Melina is. Layton isn’t there insisting Janice stays in the shed while he and Luke investigate the gothic castle. See Level 5 where was this writing for Flora
Luke convinces Layton that he should be the one to leap onto the giant machine to rescue Melina…
Similarly, Claire convinces Layton to let her go back for Clive on the Mobile Fortress, because Clive isn’t the only one to blame.
Both Claire and Melina take an underserved amount of self-recrimination and regret for the grief that their deaths caused others. Even Claire, knowing the risks of time travel, didn’t ask to die. She didn’t ask Dimitri to build another Time Machine, anymore than Melina asked Whistler to use the Detragon.
It’s not fair how Claire and Melina each lost the futures they were looking forward to - it’s not fair how Layton and Janice were left grieving twice - it’s not fair that Bill and Descole got away with their crimes (Redemption or not, how many of those kidnapped people needed therapy?) - but fate isn’t fair.
At the very least, Claire and Melina live on through everyone’s memories. The time traveller and the eternal diva, immortalised.

About the Wet Rag
Just bc I haven't seen anyone say it yet:
Could be that Edred's childishness is actually the influence of Demitri Dynamo's personality. We saw in the beginning how smug the guy was doing fake tricks, and when Edred is trying to win Emma/Melinda over, he puts on the same smug face, like he's 100% confident he'll impress her.
Especially after that little glimpse we saw of Edred when he first met Melinda; Edred himself is more serious, level headed, and considerate.
It could be that Emma/Melinda's lost affection for Edred isn't just because of Emma, but also because of Demitri changing Edred's personality, just as Melinda changed Emma's. They're simply not the same people anymore. Melinda would probably be just as frustrated with Edred's behavior as Emma is.
Which, like, if that's the case then damn dude, that sucks for literally everyone.

Inside Job Pt2Ep3 Myc Analysis Pt2
FIRST PART HERE
IM GETTING RIGHT INTO IT!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
OK SO!! ASSIMILATED MYC HUH?! First of all, the color palette change..... i like it in what it represents, its a good way to depic that he's different without having to keep that like, blue aura aura around him. HOWEVER, it makes me feel weird because THIS ISN'T MY MYC!!!
Also his voice...... not.... not for me. BUT I LOVE THE warbling echoey quality they gave him right when attuned. A lot of this is gonna be me PRAISING what the writers did, but me being pupsetti cause thats not my babygirl
Tumblr media
AHHHH Brett's face here is so cute, hes so excited to be included in girls night!!!! Also! I feel like at this point the Hive isn't tapped into anyone but Myc so... does Myc genuinely watch Sex and the City? I think so.
Tumblr media
MYC'S TOWNHOUSE! UOGHHHHHH OKAY SO FOR REALS!!! Does he have one? I GUESS SO? Is this what it looks like?? I DONT KNOW! Could the hive be making something up? Maybe?? But like, how would the hive know what to make up if they have been in the hollow earth for centuries, they have to tap into Myc. SO, is this REALLY what Myc's townhouse looks like? Or is this what he want's his friends to believe it is?? Because all of this is a hallucination so?? Like they cater to Brett and Gigi with the rock wall and bookshelf, so would he cater it to look like something he wants? THEN AGAIN! We saw Myc's little nook in his office in the beginning of the episode and that was classy as fuck with his little couch and the record player, so who's to say if this is mostly a REAL depiction of his brownstone. I will say though, it's fucking hot as hell and I think it IS at least the floorplan, like i think the floorplan is the same, whether or not its decorated like this? HHHHHHHHHH I dunno?? BUT I LOVE IT EITHER WAY BECAUSE I LOVE HIMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
MYC APRON MYC APRON MYC PINK APRON THE PINK APRON ITS AN APRON AND ITS PINK AND HHHHHHHHHHHHHH
"... mainly because all of my orifices are interchangeable" .... what... what WHAT WHAT??? Baby ..... WHAT DO YOU MEAN????? YOU HAVE HOLES???? YOU HAVE... HFHSEOUGHG;HJSD;LEG OHHHHHHH LORDLY LORDY LORD THE WRITERS HAVE GIVEN ME SO MUCH MORE THAN I COULD EVER ASK FOR HUIGREHJOSGJ'SG
Tumblr media
I genuinely think this mural is so.... SO beautiful, if I could have it as a poster or a tapestry i fucking would. I also wanna know what the writing system is like.... UGH ITS SO PRETTY
ANYWAY I THINK its so so funny that they totally retconned the whole thing about the mushrooms being aliens, like at first Myc would get so mad and say they weren't but then now they are?? lmao and the whole lore they made of early apes eating mushrooms and then evolving? FUCKING GREAT
Tumblr media
I just like myc's house.... look at his fancy kitchen ... AND IS THAT A FIREPLACEEEEEEEEEEEE uoghhhh
Tumblr media
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ANDRE MISSES THE OLD MYC, AND YES! HE DID ROAST OUT OF LOVE!!!! ANDRE KNOWS CAUSE HE KNOWS THAT HE LOVES ALL OF THEM!! AND NO ONE DENIES IT!!!! HE LOVES THEMMMMMMMM (yes sure next glenn says out of hate but listen-)
Also!! I reallu like these weird globby mushroom cave wall things, theyre soooo cool
Tumblr media
"Who wants some fucking dirt to eat? I'm still being nice, I like dirt!" BABY GHUIDSRHNS;G HES STILL A LITTLE BITCHY?????? HUAOGHH Baby i will eat dirt for you, i will eat it and like it
Tumblr media
OKAY HERE IS SOMTHING I HAVE CONFLICTING THOUGHTS ON!!! THE poetry night thing. I saw another post (here) about the gang actually being there and Myc not sensing them, and i like that take, but ALSO I like the idea of them genuinely not going because they don't like him and dont think his poetry would be good, and Reagan is just talking out her ass about it? Like, I can see both ways being real good, IDK!!!
And then the thing specifically ANDRE said.... the jacking off in the break room over the pic on a box of mushroom calzones.... baby, honey.... that is somehow both so pathetic and so hot i don't know what to do with myself other than save this information for later
Tumblr media
This image.... HURTS THE ANISE he genuinely looks SO upset, sad, distraught, deflated, this is THE SINGLE MOST upsetting image of Myc IMO, because its HIM in there that's being tormented and the hive is trying to fight it, but Myc is just.... he's actually SO sensitive and he cant handle a roast WITHOUT HIS DEFENSE MECHANISM OF HIS PERSONALITY THAT THE HIVE TOOK AWAY FROM HIM!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Tumblr media Tumblr media
LOOK AT HIM!!!! HE IS SO!!!!!! UAGHFEFFS HES IN PAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BUT ALSO!!! You can see with the blue glow that the hive is trying to regain control of the situation and he's glowing blue
Tumblr media
Mmmmmm yeah, Myc was right to get really mad for this, Brett went too far, and I think thats why he said it, to break him... I just think it's so interesting they went with a roast to get Myc back because it seems like roasts are like .... a bygone era? Like i bet if youre watching this show in your mid-late 20s you can remember when roasts were like, on tv all the time, but now you dont really see the concept all that much?? Idk i think it's interesting I guess. Anyway comparing Myc to Jar Jar Binks is a hate crime and im gonna beat up brett for it <3
Tumblr media
oh my GOD look how curled in and angy he is.... his little fists....
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SIDEBAR!!! Eberyone SO HAPPY that he's back, like all of them so fucking.,... LIKE I SPECFICALLY want to talk about GLENN of all people. Like dont get me wrong, all of them are really pleased, but GLENN? Like.... look at how SOFT his face is?? Like he is so genuinely glad to have this fucker back,,,,,, hgusehkl;s and also andre.... oh dr lee dont make that face ur gonna have me actin up ohhhhhhgggh hes so satisfied
Tumblr media
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Tumblr media
HANDS ON HIS HIPS!! SO SASSY!!!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media
Aaaaaaaaaan, boom goes the dynamite
HE DOESNT HATE THEM HE DOESNT HATE HIS TEAM HE LOVES HIS TEAM HE LOVES THEM SO MUCH THEY ARE HIS FOUND FAMILY THEY DONT BULLY HIM THEY ACCEPT HIM AS HE IS THEY LOVE HOW MUCH OF AN ASSHOLE HE IS, HES THEIR FRIEND, AND HE LOVES THEM AS MUCH AS HE SAYS HE DOESNT HE LOVES HIS TEAM THEY ARE HIS BEST FRIENDS AND AAAAAGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH IM GONNA BE CRYING FOR THE NEXT 5000 YEARS AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Tumblr media
LIKE LOOK ATT ALL OF THEIR FACES WHEN HE SAYS HE DOESNT HATE THEM!!!!!! LOOK AT GIGI!!!!!! LOOK AT ANDRE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I AM CRYING REAL TEARS AND ITS BECAUSE I LOVE MX MYC CELLIUM
Tumblr media
YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS BABY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS GET BACK AT YOUR HIVE!!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE MOST INTERESTING!!!!! THEYRE ALL CHUMPS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SO! ANOTHER THING TO NOTE!!!!! When Myc is getting ready to do this whole spore process thing, and use his big powers here, he very slightly switched back to his hive color palette.... but then a moment later we see him in his normal one, so im thinking he is like.... getting all of the hives influence just.... out of him for good? maybe i dunno but i like that
Tumblr media
god god god god. okay HERE his voice is SO CALM so!! JUST SO!! He understands that Reagan isn't insulting him, he knows that she really cares..... he makes me MELT ANS THEH NUN THE HEHPFIE:SJFKNK ANDS THEN AND THEN AND THEN IN THE NEXT SCENE IT CONTINUES OKAY
Tumblr media
THIS IS HIS HIVE THIS IS HIS HIVE RIGHT HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HIS FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEURE HIS HIVE AND HE CARES BOUT THEM HE LOVES THEM SO MUCH FUREIHTGL; GHRDGR;LGHSDGBKJ;EDGHWSLK; LOOK AT GIGI LOOK HOW HAPPY SHE IS GHRODSGS;GN; AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I CANT WITH THIS AUGFHRS;DKGFL;FVS
Tumblr media
MMMMMMM YES podcast myc ,,,, love this guy LOVE HIM LOVE HIM SM SMS SMSMMSMSMSMSMSMSMS AWOOOOOOOOOOGA I AM THE NUMBER 1 LISTENER OF FRESH DIRT UAGHHHHHH (i would also like to know if gigi and reagan drunk kiss pls)
AND YALL THOUGHT THIS WAS OVER!!!! SPECIAL BONUS ROUND WHERE I MAKE ONE (1) COMMENT ABOUT THE OTHER THING
Tumblr media
pregnant myc.... aright i am gonna give my OWN motherfucking opinions abt this because im TOO SERIOUS about it....
Myc is a mushroom, hes not a man, while he may use he/him pronouns, hes a mushroom first and foremost who canonically uses Mx. instead of Mr. like all of this is canon. He ALSO when finding out he is preggers, he says he wants to be a mother, a MOTHER, he wants to experience the joys of motherhood.... NON BINARY LEGEND! FUCKING mushrooms have NO TIES to human gender, so TEACHINALLY this cant really be considered mpreg, and it ISNT in my eyes, fucking label it mpreg all u fucking want but I DONT FUCKING AGREE OR BUY IT, dont come at me for this ill bully you into the ground
Anyway, my name is Anise and I want to thank everyone for their time for reading my Myc Cellium analysis. This character means more to me than anyone on the internet or even Shion Takeuchi herself can fathom.... and as far as IM concerned, i love him more than ANYONE ever will, whats that post? If Myc has fans, im one of them, if he doesnt, that means im dead, or whatever. I DONT KNOW I JUST KNOW that I love him more than EVERYONE and that is a FACT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anyway if you like inside job and like self insert shipping content folow me to see my silly little guy kiss this stupid mushroom and stream inside job on netflix <3

Mizuha is a loveless girl
And I literally sympathize with her so much because of it she’s my new favorite character. Hi, I’m gonna gush about Mizuha and her complications with love and receiving love so please don’t read this if you haven’t read up till at least chapter 140+ of the manga! There are massive spoilers ahead so be warned.
Mizuha’s complications with love are a really interesting topic that the manga brings up as apart of her character, because Mizuha herself believes that she knows what love is, and what it feels like, and why she wants it etc. But I personally think that Mizuha and Fushi are similar in that they both don’t really understand what “love” actually is.
Mizuha wants love from Fushi, but she doesn’t really know how to actually reciprocate those feelings. She herself doesn’t actually “love” Fushi in the way that she wants him to love her.
When Fushi confronts her in Chapter 139, she can’t even actually say she loves him, because the truth is that she just doesn’t feel that way about him. But despite that she still wants him to love her.
Tumblr media
I feel like the parallels here between Mizuha and Kahaku are also kind of subtle because they both couldn’t tell Fushi they loved him to his face, even at their lowest points. Kahaku professed his love while he was dying in an act of self sacrifice, and we see here that Mizuha can’t even say she loves Fushi when he’s right there in front of her.
Now where I feel the difference in them starts is that when Kahaku said he loved Fushi he legitimately did love Fushi. But Mizuha isn’t actually in love with him, or she hasn’t gotten to that point yet. Both Kahaku and Mizuha struggled with their own feelings in regards to Fushi. Kahaku at first had to come to terms with the fact that he couldn’t just love Fushi in one form, but all of his forms including the one he was most comfortable in, and not the form he took of his old friend.
Mizuha on the other hand has to deal with the fact that Fushi just doesn’t understand love like normal people, and that he’s only really able to give love in a mostly platonic sense. Throughout this entire arc Fushi states multiple times that he “doesn’t really understand” love, and it’s clear he does have love for the people around him, it’s just not the “right” kind of love to solve all of their issues.
Tumblr media
I think the most glaring example of this is in chapter 146, after Mizuha and Hanna have their fight. Fushi sees that she’s sobbing her eyes out and is clearly distraught, so he decides the best way to “solve” this issue is by handing her something he got from another friend.
Fushi at this point just wants Mizuha to be happy, and he believes the best way to do that is by making her life full of more friends and people who love her. But Fushi doesn’t understand that the love he provides her with is “the wrong” type of love.
Mizuha doesn’t want more friends, she has plenty of friends. She wants the kind of love that she believes only one person can give her, and she’s set her sights specifically on Fushi. Though Fushi just doesn’t understand why Mizuha, who he loves as his friend, doesn’t immediately have her problems solved by him just being there.
In fact immediately after Mizuha does this he imagines March taking the ball and being obsessed with it, and showing it off to all her friends at school because that is the kind of love Fushi can provide to other people. It’s the only kind he really gets.
Tumblr media
Mizuha’s love is complicated and difficult and not something he has ever really had to give. When Kahaku was in love with him, it was easy to not see that or even acknowledge because throughout the war arc Kahaku didn’t make it plainly obvious that he loved Fushi in that way, or at least he didn’t make it obvious to Fushi.
Mizuha just sort of expects Fushi to “get it” one day if they do normal romantic things, like go on dates and hug and kiss. But even when Fushi does these things for her it is all still in the guise of “trying to make Mizuha happy” because he’s her friend and he cares about her. Fushi doesn’t love Mizuha in that way, but he does love her enough to at least pretend so that it’ll make her feel better.
Just like Kahaku, Mizuha is trying to “define” Fushi in a way that he just isn’t. Where as Kahaku was literally trying to make Fushi be a woman so he could marry him, Mizuha wants Fushi to be a normal “boy” so she can date him and give her the love she wants from him. But during the entire arc with Fushi and Kahaku, he makes it clear that gender, sexuality, and all of that other stuff just doesn’t really matter to him, and that he’ll literally just change depending on who he is at the time.
Tumblr media
Lets also note how in this arc both Bon and Kahaku use She/Her pronouns for Fushi the entire time while he’s in Parona’s body. Their usage of these pronouns stop however when Fushi loses Parona’s form, and he has to be the nameless boy again. When he was Parona, they were both placing expectations onto Fushi that just didn’t mesh well with who he actually was as a person, including his own identity.
And Mizuha is doing the same thing just in the opposite direction. Another part of Mizuha’s character is her need to be “perfect”. She wants to be perfect to make her mother happy, but as time went on she slowly began to realize that there were parts of her life that were imperfect due to the people around her.
Tumblr media
Her mother pushing her to be “perfect” and seeing her as nothing more than a mountain of achievements was a flaw that Mizuha couldn’t ignore.
Tumblr media
Her peers are people who aren’t around her own skill level and that is a flaw she also couldn’t ignore.
Tumblr media
And her own aging human body is “imperfect” because she realizes she doesn’t have enough time to keep her mother happy forever by achieving more great things. Mizuha can’t turn the clock back no matter how much she may want to, unlike Fushi who can just revert to any age he wants at will by switching forms. A part of Mizuha’s infatuation with Fushi is the fact that she believes that by being with him that she will gain something greater then “perfection”
Tumblr media
However, Mizuha doesn’t want to “get” Fushi by falling in love with him. She expects Fushi to love her and for her to not have to reciprocate those feelings. If she gets Fushi to fall in love with her then she will “have” him. It’s why she repeatedly places the responsibility of learning about love on his shoulders so loosely. When they go on dates, she expects him to just understand or catch on eventually. Mizuha believes that just by being around Fushi he will eventually come to love her in the way that she wants, but it’s just not working.
She has no love to give to him, and the love that Fushi gives out freely is not enough because it’s the kind he shares with all people. We see how Mizuha is unable to truly give love freely with how she strings Hanna along knowing how Hanna feels about her.
When Hanna points out how her crush on Fushi is one sided, Mizuha just flat out says she’s wrong and that it’s actually the other way around.
Tumblr media
Mizuha believes she is perfect and because of this she grows increasingly frustrated with the fact that she’s not able to get Fushi to love her. Fushi doesn’t know how to make her happy or what he should do to make her happy. And Mizuha doesn’t know what she has to do to get Fushi to love her. She is a “loveless” girl in the sense that she has none to give to others in the same way that Fushi has none to give to others.
Though where they differ is that Fushi loves his friends and his family, and that love alone is enough to make him be content for all eternity. For Mizuha it is not enough because she is running out of time. She doesn’t have eternity to get over this kind of feeling.

Azul and Jamil are both deeply awful people that see no problem in using others to their advantage, Azul is just more vocal about it. And as much as Jamil talks about not wanting to get mixed up with someone like Azul, he isn't so different. Their beliefs and behaviour stem from their childhood experiences, so while their cartoonishly evil actions aren't justified, they're understandable.
Jamil wants desperately to be understood and seen for his true self, but he's locked away that part of him. He adjusted to his family's low social standing and holds himself back because that's what's expected of him. Jamil is a servant, so he has to act like one.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Under this image that he's made for himself, Jamil is fiercely intelligent and incredibly skilled, but he's also selfish, deceitful, and crafty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Azul encourages all of Jamil's traits, positive or otherwise. When Jamil displays a lot of negative traits during and after his overblot, Azul doesn't care because to him, that is authenticity. Terrible, but real.
But why does Azul want Jamil to be his true, awful self? In a word: empathy.
Azul sees a lot of himself in Jamil, but he cannot make Jamil a better man because his idea of self-improvement is by becoming the bigger threat. That's what worked for Azul, against his bullies.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But he never truly healed from his childhood, he just got worse. When Jamil displays his worst qualities, Azul is all for it because he doesn't define "best" as good or moral. Jamil's worst happens to be his strongest and most formidable. To Azul, that IS Jamil's best. So Azul is the last person you would want to have empathize with you.
I think if Jamil partnered up with Azul, he would, to a degree, be happier. He would live freely and openly. But he wouldn't be a good person.
There's something so inherently appealing about the dynamic between the misunderstood character and the character who wants to help them embrace their true self, especially when the latter's idea of helping is by making them So. Much. Worse.
I do think there is potential for them to improve themselves through their relationship, but that's a conversation for another night.

A Little rant as to why I love Sprite as a character
Okay so this is basically a summarised version of a 5000+ essay I wrote about her 2 years ago
I know that Sprite is a slightly unpopular character within the fandom and while I totally understand, I feel like I understand her reasoning for acting out.
So for 1, the obvious appearance age gap between her and the other eternals. It’s a known fact that the eternals don’t actually age, and because of this, they must adapt and get use to the idea of moving around to be able to pull off the illusion of aging like normal people. For kingo, he’s apart of a famous nepotistic family where his ‘father’ , ‘grand father’ and ‘great grand father’ (I think) are all famous Bollywood actors and they all conincidentally share a name and a face. Kingo has been granted a life that he can live to the fullest and can continue that life for well over 15 years with a single identity. Because most of the eternals are adults, they’re able to use the excuse that they don’t age as quickly compared to other adults for a longer time. Except for Sprite, being represented as a young teenager, she is unable to keep using that excuse for looking youthful for more than 5 or so years. Even though all of the characters are thousands of years old the only one who won’t be capable of experiencing a mature lifestyle and way of life will be Sprite.
“You know why I hated living with humans? Because they reminded me of things I didn't even know I wanted. Because of them, now I want to know what it feels like to grow up. To fall in love. To have a family. And to know in the end I've lived.”
This quote perfectly reflects how fed up Sprite has gotten over the thousands of years having to watch as humans grow old around her as she has to be seen as a kid for her entire life. Having to watch as everyone around her grow up as adults and be able to fall in love, have kids, have jobs must be painful when you realise that as a kid, she wouldn’t be capable of atleast 2 of those 3 possibilities. And even if she were capable of atleast one of them, she’d have to disappear after 5 years because of her never aging. There’s also the issue where she is thousands of year old, with thousands of lifetimes worth of knowledge, maturity, and pain, it’d be very difficult for her to relate to another person her age.
2, the other issue with this age difference is the way that the eternals perceive and treat Sprite. With her youthful looks, Sprite is often treated as a little sister that was born by mistake 20 or so years later compared to everyone else. There were times where she would spend time with one of the eternals and they’d simply up and leave her. In the movie she mentioned how Kingo left her in Macedonia after going on adventures together for months.
I’d also like to talk about Sprite’s crush on Ikaris, because it was sadly one of the most important parts of her character. It’s a known fact that in the movie, she has a crush on Ikaris, it’s likely because not only was he another eternal like her, but also because of the explicit relationship between Ikaris and Sersi. The relationship between Ikaris and Sersi was likely the only relationship that she saw that she both admired and could relate to. Maybe it was cause she possibly idolised Sersi, or maybe she just simply had a crush on Ikaris. But whatever the reasoning, her crush on Ikaris is what led her joining Ikaris in allowing the emergence to happen.
To me, Sprite joining blindly to Ikaris letting earth simply die was done out of both her love for Ikaris and her completely wanting a restart a new life and be able to have another chance of living a life she can live longer than 5 years.
(Imma end it here because I physically need to go to sleep like rn thanks pookie ^_−☆)

I feel like saying Josuke doesn't have any daddy issues whatsoever isn't entirely fair (I've seen some fic and comics go further into how he and his mom might have been treated due to the circumstances of his birth that were pretty compelling) but people who act like he grew up without any father figure are definitely off base imo. Every single adaptation and extra material have always had a focus on his close relationship with his grandpa for a reason!
see, that's precisely the thing. it is literally impossible to be a grown up human without having internalised some sort of illogical Feeling about oneself or the world – but fandom as a whole tends to just assign arbitrary ones to characters based on stereotypes rather than what they actually are like.
i do think josuke feels some sort of way about his lack of a father growing up, but that's as inevitable as joseph himself (or giorno, or jolyne, or even jonathan) having feelings about his own dad, and yet somehow jorge's absence does not get brought up despite joseph and josuke's fairly similar upbringings. the fact is that most of western fandom tends to view the JJBA characters through a (white, usa-centric) lens that simply does not lend itself to a fair or accurate reading when most of the cast is either POC or from an entirely different cultural background. that's why i'm so resistant to label josuke as having 'daddy issues'; the term means something entirely different to me than it seems to do to most of the fandom, based on all the fic, comics, and discussions i've seen (and had) about the topic. it's not exactly like the organised crime aspect of VA, but it fills me with a similar kind of frustration. i don't think one needs a degree in cultural studies or history or whatnot to enjoy a silly series about people punching each other with slutty soul-ghosts, but it's exhausting to see the same thoughtless, very specifically westernised takes being regurgitated over and over as Absolute Truth until the characters are so flanderised they seem nothing as much as a caricature of their original versions. i love transformative works as much as any other fan creator, but i also happen to like the source material. it is infinitely more interesting to me to think about what kind of relationship josuke might have to his heritage as a mixed-race person, or his identity as the son of a single mother or the obviously cherished and spoilt child of a family such as his own (especially in a place and period like canon's late-90s/early 00's japan), than to hear yet another iteration of 'haha, josuke has daddy issues' where the person saying it has no intention of analysing that premise beyond the puddle-depth obvious.
at barely sixteen years old, even as interested in high-end fashion (and as very much part of a working class family who could definitely use the nest egg) as he is, josuke's immediate reaction to being told his missing father is incredibly rich and wants to take care of him is to say that it's not necessary, and he's fine as he is. sixteen. i worked as a teacher with kids as young as a year old and people as old as mid-seventies; that kind of ease of mind is one-in-a-million and not something you'll find on someone who fits fandom's definition of 'daddy issues'. he's not angry at joseph, he's not grasping for money, he hardly even wants to find out more about the missing part of his origins. his only thought is to wish he wouldn't be the reason other people were hurt, and to protect his mother once there is a risk she might find out and be distressed about it. his entire morality system is (from what i remember of canon) mostly based around the question What Would Grandpa Do?, with some leeway allowed for the temper he clearly got from tomoko and for the fact that he is, again, a big and slightly spoilt sixteen year old.
so yeah. it might not sound fair to say he doesn't have daddy issues, but i don't think the terms fandom's operating under are fair to start with, so i'd rather recuse myself (and my interpretation of the character) from it all til we're playing the same game. the sandbox's wide and wild, and the block and mute buttons are there for a reason, so i'll just stay in my corner writing about higashikatas wielding their feelings like sledgehammers til my mum says it's time to go home.
#tl;dr: everyone's absolutely entitled to their opinion! i just happen to find the most common one the equivalent of soap-flavoured cilantro#i definitely agree with the part about his rship with his grandfather! it's a whole thing in my own writing for them#it's just 'daddy issues' has become shorthand for a combination of takes i quite dislike the past few years#so yeah. i'll just... Not. if y'all don't mind#(i do think Other characters have daddy issues in the traditional sense. and even in the popular modern sense. but not josuke particularly)#anyway i hope this doesn't read as confrontational as i fear it sounds bc that was. so not my intention orz#ty for the ask!!!! i really love discussing character analysis i'm just rly tired rn so i probably sound super Debate Team Mode haha#ps ryohei was 100000% josuke's favourite person in the world growing up and he's still tomoko's special baby gremlin at age 50 pass it on#josuke higashikata#jojo#the funny thing abt my fic is i'm really at ease abt posting my shippy stuff bc it's just like. treating myself to sth nice#and then sharing with everyone as a bonus#but the stuff where i actually talk abt familial and platonic rships for my faves lives in eternal development hell bc i just LOVE it#and never feel like it's perfect enough to share. it's never complete because it's always evolving#which is why i once wrote a novel allegedly about detectives in love but in reality about 100kish of family/friendship character analysis#meaning there was no way this ask could've ever been answered succinctly lol#ask tag#joji.txt#joosk#anonymous

By the way what I found out or no so far I understand that in addition to living in Rhode Island he would have been in something called the Georgian era or period right before the regency period though being you know American that would have an effect as he's listed as being in the 1760s
He was a doctor for some time but never really set out just held stuff also he was a widower and his children were adults at the time of his active point in the game he had just taken over the house that he had inherited

I’ve been having a lot of feelings on Eternal Diva lately.
We know Mr Whistler must have done everything he could to save Melina from her illness— to the point that he stopped writing opera for a few years to focus on Melina. He must have poured all of his time, money and effort into seeking out medial professionals and potential cures, until it became clear that Melina was going to die, no matter what he did.
Then along comes this not-at-all suspicious masked man, Jean Descole, who claims he can help Melina. Whistler just has to move her to this random island and they can stay in Descole’s gothic castle. Melina’s girlfriend can even come to visit her!
I have no doubt Descole did try to find a cure for Melina (Like a healing garden?), but that doesn’t work, so he devises a plan for what they can do after Melina’s death. Whistler is so desperate and filled with grief that he goes along with it. All they have to do is copy Melina’s memories before she dies and then transfer them into another living host… Janice.
You’d think Whistler might have formed somewhat of an attachment to Janice. She was close enough to Melina that she was at Melina’s side when she died… But still, Whistler is willing to steal the life of Melina’s close friend. Whether Janice was aware of the detragon’s true nature or not, she accepts Melina’s memories when the time comes, because she wants to save Melina.
Believing the memory transfer to Janice failed, Whistler seeks out other potential hosts for Melina’s memories.
Eventually, he finds 16-year-old Amelia Ruth. Amelia participates in the Game for Eternal Life, hoping to win the Elixir of Life. Amelia isn’t an idiot— she realises something is fishy about Mr Whistler and the entire game. But she still risks her own life because she wants to save her grandfather, who only has a month to live.
Janice and Amelia are brave and self-sacrificing. Whistler just wants to sacrifice others for Melina’s life.
Descole manipulated a grieving father, even though he knows what it’s like to lose a daughter. Whistler kidnapped and used other people’s daughters in his plans to preserve Melina.
But finally, Janice manages to say goodbye to Melina and we see Amelia visiting her grandfather’s grave. Both of them decide to remember their lost ones, rather than passing their misery on the rest of the world.

Sociopath Profile: the Khan Maykr
Tumblr media
From the 2020 video game DOOM Eternal Voiced by Nika Futterman
The Khan Maykr is the major antagonist behind the events of the game and, to an extent, responsible for much of the previous game. There may be spoilers below, but as Max0r says, it doesn't count as spoilers because it makes no sense. So do with this information what you wish.
Considering she is the supreme being of the Maykrs, it makes sense as to why she has a grandiose sense of self-worth. She is not just royalty, she is a step below godhood. And her plan is to take that step to become like a goddess. She believes she is entitled to sacrifice other worlds to Hell for Argent Energy to power Urdak because it is her will as the Khan Maykr. (See the quote in the image above.) With her status as a supreme being, she doesn't really care about the concerns of humanity beyond pity.
[to the Doom Slayer] "You cannot resist the will of the Khan Maykr... for it is you who was meant to enforce it."
She only sees others as ways to inflate her own ego or to advance her plans. The Hell Priests were merely tools for her advancement and when Doom Slayer makes short work of them, she does not lament their loss. With her nature as the supreme amalgamation of the original Maykrs, she sees her subjects as extensions of herself. Their survival reinforces hers. And she claims she will grant the desires of those who will worship her and her people.
She obviously knows how to manipulate people since she was working through the Hell Priests to get Earth on board with the Hell energy plan. One of them was contacting Dr. Pierce for the first game and it is implied that this was for the Khan Maykr's plan. She also attempts to dissuade the Doom Slayer from his crusade by promising him what he lost and removing his pain.
In general, she takes no responsibility for her mistakes or wrongdoings. The things she does to gain the blue energy are justified in her mind by being the right of the Maykrs. Thus, she claims that had the Doom Slayer not been going through Hell and killing all the demons, humanity would live - even though sacrificing the planet would cause their extinction. She sees reviving the Icon of Sin as something Doom Slayer forced her to do and claims it is his fault for the extinction. After her plan fails, she refuses to see why it was something that any person would want to stop.
"You have destroyed all that I was meant to rule, and just to protect [the humans] - the mere servants to our beliefs!"
Despite seeing herself as someone trying to protect creation, she only did what she did for her own power to keep her race - and by extension, herself - alive. Even her concern about losing the other Maykrs is because she won't be able to live long with them.
