It always kinda bothered me that keftas would inform the enemy of what grisha they're fighting against and the only thing I've came up with is...
Do you think that they may ex-change the keftas when going on front? Plan it out, announce it to everyone [everygrisha? maybe okazat'syas wouldn't have to know...], and like, this week healers and heartdenders are wearing blue, Etherialki red/purple...and the next week another mix up.
It'd need adding an embroidery colour to Fabrikators [purple] keftas, I think, but...yeah.
It kinda sounds like a lot of maybe unusable trouble, but I can't come up with anything else that'd maybe satisfy me, so. Thoughts?
I thought about that too, it might be a good move to confuse the enemy at least a little, but then there's the question how protective is ill-suiting protective gear. I have two reasonable explanations for their obvious distinction:
a.) Grisha are wearing colourful kefta among their own, where they should be theoretically safe- Little Palace, travelling amplifiers, Grisha stationed in noble houses or in crossing points near the Fold. They have unicolour keftas on the front.
b.) Grisha are wearing less conspicuous hues in the field. Less bright, shades so dark they look almost identical from greater distance. And if you get closer than that you're likely to experience their powers personally.
Unfortunatelly it's all logic and contra-canon.
See: drüskelle wall of hatred
Likely explanation is that the author went for the aesthetics, completely disregarding tactical disadvatages. If we want in-universe one, my guess is Grisha aren't trusted even among Ravkans, so they have to be easily distinguishable in case they'd need to be disposed of.

"This is really nice tea, Wylan," Nina said, lounging back on a lawn chair she had found somewhere, the tea poured into a whiskey glass she had also found somewhere, topped with a tiny umbrella. "Would pair well with some ginger biscuits."
"Are you sure you didn't want it in a teacup?" Wylan asked, giving Inej a smile as he finished pouring her a cup."No way! This makes me feel fancy, like I'm at the races watching actual horsemen riding and not… those two."

Thank you for answering my question! I was also wondering what type of grisha are there? And what powers and abilites do grisha have?
I have only seen the show and I'd like to know more about grisha and their abilities!
So, firstly, there are three "Orders" of Grisha
Etherialki (aka Summoners) - control "liquid" elements. Powerful etherialki can create the Cut (impossibly thin and powerful "blade" made out of their element which can cut through basically everything with ease).
Materialki (aka Fabricators) - control solid materials, including plants
Corporalki - control living matter
Then, each other separates into different types. It should be noted that the types are not completely exclusive and it is possible for a Grisha to learn the abilities of a different type or order. It is however done relatively rarely in modern times.
Etherialky sub-types:
Tidemakers - control water in all states (liquid, vapor, ice)
Squallers - control the air - they can manipulate air pressure, create wind and control temperature around them (Squallers are known to work as living air conditioners in Kerch). With some skill, they are also able to create lightning, though this ability is rarely taught in the Second army as it is considered too volatile and hard to control once created. Powerful Squallers (or groups of them) might also be able to manipulate weather for the reasons mentioned above. They might also be able to teach themselves how to levitate. Anything beyond wind and temperature manipulation is considered advanced and only very powerful and skilled Grisha will be able to do it safely (meaning with a reasonable elvel of control)
Inferni - control fire. Or, more specifically, flamable gases. They still need something to ignite those gases, so many Inferni in the book carry around a lighter (or whatever it's called) and in teh show, they appear to have special gloves that give can create sparks with certain movement, allowing them to create fire more quickly (the gloves might also provide a level of insulation from fire, as I think we don't know for sure how fire resistance Inferni actually are).
These are fairly common. But there are also two "special" types of Etherialki.
Shadow Summoners - they control shadows. There has only ever been two known Shadow Summoners, Baghra and Aleksander. Baghra is the daughter of Ilya Morozova (cringe) and it is possible her powers are the result of his meddling with Merzost. Shadow Summoners are extremely powerful and do not appear to age significantly once they reach maturity (in the books), as Aleksander is described as looking to be maybe 20-something and while Baghra trips everyone's "ancient" alarm, she physically looks to be maybe in her 30s. (more on Grisha aging at the end)
Sun Summoner(s) - control light. There has only ever been one known born Sun Summoner (Alina). It is up for debate whether the Sun Summoners created at the end of R&R are real Sun Summoners. Sun summoners are able to conjure beams of light and bend it to make themselves or things around them invisible.
Types of Materialki
Firstly, Materialki types are more akin to specialisation than hard(ish) division like for Etherialki. There is a huge overlap between the two types. But in short:
Alchemi are magical chemists. They manipulate matter on molecular level. In practice, they make things like explosives, salves and drugs. They can also do thing like removing poison from water.
Durasts primarily work with solid material - bones, wood, stone, metal, glass etc. They are effectively telekinetics. They can also change shape of those things and mold them together. Skilled and powerful Materialki can also affect elements on a subatomic level, changing one element into another (though without further help, such as parem, the resulting material will be radioactive).
They can also leech color from things (such as plants), force plants to grow/flowers to bloom.
Types of Corporalki
Again, Corporalki types are specialisations. In fact, we are told that there is a great degree of choice in which path a given Grisha takes and there's a great overlap between what they do (A Healer can do basic Heartrending and Heartrender can do basic Healing.)
Healers are exactly what it says on the tin. They can heal people - speed up healing of skin and flesh, fix broken bones etc. Resulting scarring, residual pain and speed of the healing appaears to be based on the Healer's power and experience.
Heartrenders, on the other hand, manipulate the body in "damaging" ways. They can damage internal organs, cause pain etc. They can also sense heartbeats of the people around them and can manipulate the speed of the heart and blood pressure of themselves and others. Some heartrenders can also learn to manipulate people's emotions by making their brain release certain chemicals (this is Nina's specialisation in the books).
Special Grisha
There are also Grisha, who don't really fit into any of these boxes.
The only one of these types we meet in the books (or show) are Tailors (like Genya), who are between Corporalki and Materialki. In later books, any Corporalnik can learn Tailoring, but their results are going to not be as high quality or last as long.
You might also count "Zowa" as their own separate thing. Generally, "Zowa" is a Zemeni (people from Novyi Zem, Grishaverse's black ethnicity) term for Grisha, however, as they learn and teach their powers differently from "mainland" Grisha, they do and up not being as closely confined to their orders/types.
(Spoiler) Jesper's mother, who taught him how to use his powers, is mentioned having abilities, that might reach into healing or water manipulation, despite being classified as a Durast. I have an old post, where I go deeper into the Grisha/Zowa thing.
This is by no means an exhaustive list, just what I can come up with from memory.

also bc i’m thinking abt the gv, august and kees and the majority of de vlinder being grisha. aug as a squaller, kees as a tidemaker. fabian and pax are corporalki. suyu is a fabrikator and the gun crew is largely made up of squallers and materialki while the corporalki and other etherialki make up the boarding parties.

Hi what is etheralki?
I completely apologize that this is gonna be a long answer lol.
So in the Grishaverse(books by Leigh Bardugo if you didn’t know), there’s the Grisha who are split into small sciences which is the art of manipulating matter at its most basic form. Those who practice the Small Science are called Grisha.
First, there’s the Corporalki, or the Order of the Living and the Dead, are Grisha whose power focuses on the human body. The Order is divided into three groups: Heartrenders, Healers, and Tailors. In the Second Army, they wear crimson colored kefta(which is like, robe/jacket/uniform thing and it’s bulletproof).
Heartrender: Their ability and training allows them to manipulate the body of another person to cause harm. For example, a Heartrender can stop a human's heart or prevent air from entering their lungs.
Healer: Healers utilize their ability to manipulate the human body in order to heal wounds and injuries.
Tailor: The ability to alter human appearances.
Secondly, there’s the Materialki, or the Order of Fabrikators, are Grisha whose power focuses on composite materials such as metal, glass, textiles, and chemicals. This Order consists of Durasts and Alkemi; collectively, they are commonly referred to as Fabrikators. They wear a purple kefta.
Durasts: Durasts deal with solids such as Grisha steel, corecloth, textiles and glass. In the Second Army, Durasts wear purple keftas embroidered with gray details.
Alkemi: Alkemi specialize in poisons, blasting powders, and other chemicals. In the Second Army, Alkemi wear purple keftas that are embroidered with red details.
And finally, there’s the Etherialki. Etherealki, or the Order of Summoners, are Grisha whose power lies in the manipulation of different natural elements. This Order is divided into Squallers, Inferni and Tidemakers. Loosely referred to as Summoners, Etherealki typically train in pairs; Inferni partner with other Inferni, while Squallers and Tidemakers usually train together. Alina Starkov and the Darkling, a Sun Summoner and a Shadow Summoner respectively, are also technically considered Etherealki. In the Second Army, the Inferni, Tidemakers, and Squaller Etherealki wear blue keftas, with different colored embroidered details on their kefta to differentiate the three. However, the Shadow Summoner wears a black kefta, and Alina, the Sun Summoner, has been known to wear a blue kefta with gold embroidery, a black kefta with gold embroidery, and a gold kefta with black embroidery.
Squallers: Squallers are Summoners who can raise or lower air pressure to create storms, gusts, and manipulate objects. They wear blue keftas embroidered with silver details.
Inferni: Inferni summon combustible gases such as methane or hydrogen, though they still need a flint to start a spark. They wear blue keftas embroidered with red details.
Tidemakers: Tidemakers manipulate temperature to summon and control water. They wear blue keftas embroidered with light blue details.
To answer your question finally, I took a quiz to see what kind of Grisha I would be and I got Etherealki Squaller.
Hope that answers stuff! Others can feel free to add more in the comments lol.

Race to the Finish Line | @grishaversebigbang
“Are you sure that’s a good idea, Jesper?” A voice spoke from behind them. Jesper turned, spotting Kaz standing by the fence.
“What do you mean? He’s learning.”
“You can’t keep still in the saddle. Last time I saw you on horseback you fell off.”
“Shut up. I’m a great teacher. And an even better rider.”
“History proves otherwise.”
Jesper glared at Kaz, the comments to his riding abilities bruising his ego. He adjusted his waistcoat as he stood upright. “I could beat you at a race.”
Kaz raised an eyebrow. “No, you couldn’t.”

The Legend of the Wraith
summary: The tale of the legendary Wraith that so many know, and who so many pray to for a safe journey
a/n: I am so happy to finally have participated in a Grishaverse Big Bang event! so shoutout to @grishaversebigbang for making this possible! (also I know I am posting late I am a very busy person I'm sorry). Anyway, I love the concept my group came up with, and I hope you enjoy it too and check out their amazing pieces!

full story under here
No matter what, everyone had something to believe in. The Fjerdans had Djel, the Kerch had Ghezen, and the Ravkans had their saints. but amongst sailors there was a living legend, whose name was far more important than any deity. The Wraith.
For some the Wraith was frightening. A sure sign of death, a sure sign of knowing that all their sins had caught up with them. But for others the wraith was a hope for freedom and safety.
When someone went missing at sea, they told the legend of the wraith to spread hope for a safe return.
“Come here and listen,” the mother would say to a distraught child, crying for their lost sibling. “You don't need to worry, the wraith is out there, and she will bring your sister back, safe and sound.”
And then they would tell the legend of the Wraith. It always went something like this.
It was not the first time a sailor had heard the name The Wraith, but no one had heard it said like this before. It wasn't the way people would speak about some insignificant captain that had tried herself against some small slaver and won. No this time it sounded like someone bit, someone worthy of attention.
In the beginning the wraith wasn't much to speak about. Sure she had a nice ship and a good crew, but anyone with enough money could get themselves that. It was said that the wraiths had plans of becoming a legend, even from the start, but it still took some time for her to get the attention she deserved.
Just because few knew the true power the wraith held in the beginning, didn't mean that she was a bad sailor or captain. Quite the opposite.
Of course, she had started small. Some say her goal had always been to hunt slavers, to free the people taken from everything they knew. It was known that more and more ships were being taken down on the true sea. Particularly slave ships. But it was nothing to worry about. Not until that day.
It was a clear day out on the sea. The water was still and not a cloud in sight. It was peaceful. maybe too peaceful. At least while knowing that the particular ship that was being looked at held dozens of people, kidnapped to be sold as slaves. Most of them children.
Most of the people on board had given up hope. They knew it was over as soon as they were thrown in the cell. Others kept hope out longer, still praying to whatever saint or god they believed in. Little did they know, they would get their miracle soon enough.
There, while locked in the dark of the inside of the boat, they heard something. While they could not see the sky, they knew this day was calmer than most, and therefore sounds like they should not be heard. Still, it could just be one of the men on the ship having a little too much to drink and stumbling around. That was not exactly an un-normal accordance. Still, some of the children began to feel a bit of hope.
But this was no man with too much to drink, this was a man hit in the head with a knife. No drunken accident, but a very deliberate murder. Because someone was here to save them. First the one man, then another and another.
Above the deck, it was the wraith who had thrown the knives and killed the men. On this still day she had managed to sneak aboard the ship, and then attack. And she wasn't the only one. Now that she had their attention for a bit, the rest of her crew came on her ship to help.
When her people were aboard the ship she only had two more things to do: release the captured, and pay the captain a visit.
As soon as she saw one of her men was aboard the slaver ship and helping her with taking them down she made her way beneath deck.
When she opened the hatch that led her below, the prisoners were scared. Sure they knew something was happening, some of them even had hope for a rescue. But others were weary. How could they know if this person truly came here to help them. Maybe it was just another slaver looking for some good girls to be sold.
But they needn't worry, because the wraith had come, and she had come to help them.
She quickly made her way towards the cages, working to get them open and set the girls free.
“Quick, go, go, you’re free,” she said. “Are there any more hidden prisoners?” she asked.
“I don’t know, but I don’t think so,” someone replied.
“Okay, I will look around just to be sure, and then I’ll come back up to deck to make sure the captain gets what he deserves.”
The captured would stay below deck for some moments more, wondering what to do. They were free, yes, but that didn’t mean that they were safe.
They didn’t know what was happening up there, and some of them didn’t want to know. However, some did want to know. And so they went up on deck, seeing sunlight for the first time in weeks.
But the sun was not the only thing that greeted the freed prisoners when looking at the deck. They were also met with the sight of the captain, tied to a chair with his mouth bound in the middle of the deck.
Most of the prisoners had never seen the captain, but just by looking at the man tied to the chair, they knew it was him. No other man on the ship looked like him, clean and rich. Rich on the lives of other people that he sold. And by the looks of it, he had sold a lot. And here he was, tied and gagged on his own ship.
None of his crew dared to move or even try to help. Maybe they were scared to move, scared of the wraith, or maybe, just maybe, they knew he was getting what he deserved. They knew how many children and women he had taken. They knew how he treated them. and deep down they knew he deserved even worse than this. That this was just the way mortals dealt with it. No one dared think about what he might face in death. It didn't matter when they believed in it, no one could believe he would die and that would be it.
And maybe that's why they needed the wraith. Sure she couldn't guarantee that he got exactly what he deserved, but she could do what gods and saints could not. She could kill him right where he was, on his own ship, surrounded by his own prisoners. And she could make sure they all knew. Everyone on deck knew that he was going to get what he deserved.
Even the ones that choose to stay under deck for safety, knew that the captain would not fare well after this.
When the wraith stepped on deck, she made her way towards the captain. Everyone could see the pure fear on his face. No one knew exactly what she was going to do. No one had expected her here in the first place, so they could not even begin to expect what she was going to do to the captain.
When she had finally made her way towards him, she leaned down to press one of ehr blades to his throat.
“Do you know how much I have suffered because of men like you?” she had asked. The man made no noise, nor did it seem like he was planning on making any. That was until she pressed her blade harder against his throat and he whimpered. “Answer me,” she said sternly.
There was something about the way she spoke. It was not inherently threatening, but when she spoke the way she did, you knew that you were in danger.
“I honestly do not,” he replied. “I am sorry if I have somehow caused you pain, I truly didn't mean any harm. Did I take one of your loved ones? Your sister perhaps?” he tried getting himself out of the situation, tried to get her to show mercy. But it was not worth trying mercy when it came to the wraith.
She was snot completely ruthless, but she would not give mercy to anyone who did not deserve it.
“You have not hurt me. you have not taken my sister, or any other loved one,” she said calmly. it was so calm it was weary. “But I was taken, by someone just like you. and I have suffered from it. you said it yourself, you have no idea how much.”
And just like that it was over for him. With her last word she sunk one of her knives into his stomach. “This will never make up for what I have suffered through. It will never come close to healing me or any of the people in a similar situation. But it can stop people like you from continuing doing it to others. And that will have to do for now,” she whispered in his ear as she sunk the knife deeper and deeper, watching the color drain slowly from his face until he was just a pale sack of tied up meat.
But there was something strange about this. Some would swear that it was not the wraith who killed the captain, but ghosts. Grown people would swear they saw the ghosts of the ones who had been captured on this ship before.
And they were ruthless. More ruthless than the wraith ever could have been. But it was only fair, they were the spirits of the ones who had died on this ship. sure the wraith had rage, but she still had a life. She had gotten out, she was doing what she could to make this better. But they never got that chance. They were trapped, watching so many suffer the same fate as they did. So when they got their chance for vengeance, they took it.
The legend usually went something like this. Sure there were some variations, and some told other stories of the wraith on other ships then this one. But the one told the most when something like what you heard.
And when the boy heard this he could stop holding his breath in fear for his sister. because there was hope. There was the wraith, out there, making sure people like his sister didn't need to suffer.
Of course no one actually knew exactly what happened on any ship the wraith was on, except for the wraith herself. She did not mind the exaggeration, but they did sometimes get a bit too outlandish for her.
But that was not what mattered. What mattered was that soon, no one would need to suffer her fate, or the fate of the ghosts on the ship. The details were actually true. Every time she killed one of the men doing these horrible things, she started to hear a faint singing, they got progressively louder until suddenly there were spirits flying through the men.
And she hoped, however little it might be, that it lightened their suffering just a little bit. anything was better than being stuck with the rage and the feeling of injustice.
But no one would have to feel that anymore. Not as long as she was sailing the seas.

Shadow & Bone 2x04 - “Every Monstrous Thing”: Quotes
“- Why must you always play the diplomat, Nikolai? Grisha dining beside true Ravkan soldiers is a bit much for all our stomachs. (Vasily) - We are all Ravkan here. (Nikolai) - Doesn’t need to be us versus them. (Alina) - That said, absent their Darkling, the Grisha are rather easy to manage. (Vasily) - By “manage”, do you mean “execute”, moi tsarevich? (Alina) - That fate is reserved for traitors to the Crown, Miss Starkov. Why should I believe you have any loyalty to my family? (Vasily) - Today marks the start of a new era of cooperation between Lantsovs and the Grisha. I’m delighted to announce my engagement to Alina Starkov, the Sun Summoner and new leader of the Second Army. Together, we will build a better future for Ravka. (Nikolai) - That was a bit much. (Alina) - Understatement is overrated. (Nikolai) - But is this best for your long-term positioning? (Tatiana) - This is what’s best for me and for Ravka, Madraya. Your other son is working hard to send this country to civil war. I aim to stand in his way. (Nikolai) - I’d better plan some sort of official celebration. (Tatiana) - Now’s not the time for parties. Such an affaire risks exposure, Kirigan’s threat is unyielding. (Nikolai) - You are a Lantsov heir. If we don’t commemorate it, it’ll look like we have something to hide. I’ll keep it small, extended family only.” (Tatiana)
“- Suffering is as cheap as clay and twice as common. What matters is what you make of it.” (Baghra)
“- She served you loyally since she was a child, endured years of abuse on your orders, and you reduce her to an example? Oh, Aleksander, where does this stop? (Baghra) - It stops once Ravka is mine, and Alina is at my side. (Aleksander) - So slaughtering civilians, maiming Grisha, butchering your own kin? (Baghra) - Everything I know, I learned at your knee. (Aleksander) - I was a fool to think I could steer you to redemption. (Baghra) - Spare me your quaint ideas, Mother. It’s too late.” (Aleksander)
“- No mourners. No funerals.” (all together) - Why do you guys say that? Why isn’t it just “good luck” or “be safe”? (Nina) - We like to keep our expectations low.” (Inej)
“- As leader of the Second Army, I need more. I need to learn the Cut. (Alina) - That was Kirigan’s way, to lead with fear. You can lead with your heart. The Second Army will be better for it. (Nadia) - You make a good point. (Alina) - But I wouldn’t completely reject fear. Can’t tell you how many have taken one look at my girls and reconsidered. I don’t know how the Cut works, that’s a hop-shelf Etherialki move, but I do know how to direct power. It’s all about intention. I like to picture the face of the person I want to crush. Try it. Well, it’s not the Cut, but it’s effective.” (Tamar)
“- They are nichevo’ya. Nothing.” (David)
“- Or I can do something right now, an alternative to boost my power. (Alina) - Alternative? He created soldiers of shadow. (Mal) - Maybe... I can tear down the Fold by creating soldiers of light. (Alina) - With what? Merzost? The Darkling messed with it and we got the Fold for 400 years. Now he has monsters who walk with him. (Nadia) - Give me time to track the Firebird. (Mal) - There’s always a cost to merzost. It’s not worth the risk. (David) - If you have no loyalty to Kirigan, then help me find a way to bring him down. (Alina) - The journal omits the most consequential detail, the cost. You’re asking the wrong questions. Although, there is something you should know. I didn’t want to mention it in frond of the others. Even now, something may extend between you two. A shared bond that persists beyond what happened in the Fold. (David) - I share no bond with Kirigan. (Alina) - I wouldn’t be so sure. The fragment is out of his hand, but there is still residue of the Stag. He asked me about a link. You may still be connected in some way.” (David)
“- Any chance is better than no chance. (Alina) - That’s a very Sturmhond thing to say. Were he here, he would surely commend you. (Nikolai) - It’s unsettling how you talk about him like he’s someone else.” (Mal)
“- I will kill everything you love, Brekker. (Pekka Rollins) - The trick is not to love anything. Your mistake was that you let someone get in. Someone you’d sacrifice everything for and it makes you weak. (Kaz) - Then I’ll just kill you. (Pekka) - Do that and you’ll never find your son in time. (Kaz) - What did you do? (Pekka) - I buried him. Six feet deep. He went into that box so easily. Didn’t even cry, until I took this from him. (Kaz) - What the hell do you want? (Pekka) - I want you to remember. (Kaz) - Remember what? (Pekka) - A con you ran... on two farm boys. Orphans. (Wake up, Jordie!) A promise to replace the family that they’d lost. And then you duped them out of everything. They ended up on the streets and they both died. But one of us was reborn. Too many pigeons to remember? Let me help you. Jakob Hertzoon. (Kaz) - I don’t remember his name!” (Pekka)
“- I could use a hand with these laces. While I admit it’s a skill I’ve perfected, I’m not sure it would be appropriate. (Vasily) - What can I do for you, moi tsarevich? (Alina) - You call my brother by his given name. (Vasily) - We met under different circumstances. (Alina) - Yes, I’ve heard some find his whole corsair act rather charming. He must realize, no matter his aims, he will always be a second son. Only I can make you a queen. (Vasily) - I can assure you I have no such ambition. (Alina) - Is that so? (Vasily) - You’ve made no secret of your opinions on Grisha. Why propose an alliance with me? (Alina) - I stand by my previous statements. The Ravkan people are fed up of being held hostage by Grisha tyrants. Odds are some Grisha are good people. You could help me sort that out. (Vasily) - Where would you find the time? Rumor has it you find yourself quite preoccupied at Caryeva, between the horse races and the brothels. (Alina) - How many true allies do you really have, Miss Starkov? Grisha scraps. As leader of the Second Army, I imagine the Commander of the First would be a good one to keep. You’re a smart girl, consider your options.” (Vasily)
“- Well, I left because I assumed that’s what you were going to do. I just thought that someone like you wouldn’t want anything more. Especially after just one night, so I thought it was easier to cut my losses. (Wylan) - Yeah, I get it. Yeah, I mean, my reputation isn’t entirely unfounded. I like the chaos. The gamble of Barrel life. Never knowing what comes next. I might very well have left you first. But that... was before I got to know you. I can’t make you any promises. Or predict what might happen between us. But I can tell you that... I’d like to find out.” (Jesper)
“- You may have gathered this about me, but silences, they really aren’t my favorite thing. (Inej) - You chose strangers over your crew. (Kaz) - I got the note to the driver. Nina said everything worked out. (Inej) - I didn’t know where you were. I didn’t know if Pekka hired another assassin to kill you. I didn’t know if you would.... (Kaz) - I’m fine. Your face... I’m sorry I wasn’t there. (Inej) - I can’t have a weak link in my crew. (Kaz) - I do one thing without consulting you and I’m a weak link? You can’t be serious. (Inej) - I need to know I can count on my Crows. If we can’t rely on each other, we have nothing. (Kaz) - So just like that... I’m out? (Inej) - You’re free. Now all the indentures in Kerch have a Wraith.” (Kaz)
“- You look magnificent. Like sunshine on the first day of spring. (Nikolai) - Thank you. Some of your Grisha were kind enough to help me put this together instead of... (Alina) - I think I have just the flourish to complete the look. A gift. The Lantsov Emerald. (Nikolai) - “Understatement is overrated.” (Alina) - I love it when you quote me. Console yourself knowing that, should you ever punch me while wearing it, you’ll probably take my eye out. And I’d very much like you to. Wear it, that is. Not punch me. (Nikolai) - Your mother will not be pleased you gave this to a commoner. (Alina) - If my mother was as put off by commoners as she claims, I wouldn’t be here, now would I? If you lead an army, you must get better at hiding what you’re thinking. (Nikolai) - I wasn’t sure. I’ve heard the whispers since I was a child. (Alina) - I’ll deny it if you repeat it, but the truth is, I couldn’t care less if I have Lantsov blood. Given all the royal inbreeding, I think being a bastard is probably a point in my favour. (Nikolai) - It’s nice when you drop the act, when you’re just yourself. (Alina) - I’m a prince, Alina. Being myself is a luxury I can’t often indulge. The throne is just a prize to Vasily, like some favorite toy. (Nikolai) - You actually care about Ravka. You’d make a good king. (Alina) - Coming from you, that means a lot. (Nikolai) - You’re going to be insufferable now, aren’t you? (Alina) - Well, I’m already insufferable. (Nikolai) - This is your family’s idea of a small gathering? (Alina) - I did not expect this. (Nikolai) - Where’s Mal? (Alina) - I know my company doesn’t account for much, but at least pretend to enjoy yourself. After all, that gelatin deer gave its life for your entertainment. (Nikolai) - It’s just... It’s not like him, you know? (Alina) - You can’t fault him for being a little late. This must be a sort of torture for him. I’m sure he’ll be here soon. (Nikolai) - Perhaps your loyal tracker doesn’t share your enthusiasm for the festivities. (Vasily) - If you’ll excuse me, moi tsarevich. (Alina) - I provided her with my personal seamstress and got not a word of gratitude. You know, milen’kiy, it’s not too late to reconsider. (Tatiana) - We agreed on an intimate affair. How many guests did you invite? (Nikolai) - Vasily got a little overzealous with the invites. Now I don’t entirely approve of your Caryeva set, but I admit, that sort lend a certain air of festivity. (Tatiana) - You revealed our location to the gamblers and freeloaders you call friends? (Nikolai) - That’s rich coming from a pirate. (Vasily) - You make yourself ridiculous. The Darkling lives. We’re at great risk if our location is compromised. You’d sacrifice us all for your pride and stupidity. (Nikolai) - You overreach, you little bastard.” (Vasily)
“- It’s good to see you, Alina. (Aleksander) - You’re not real. (Alina) - The Sea Whip has made you stronger. I always told you, you were meant for more. Power suits you. (Aleksander) - Stay away from me. (Alina) - I’m trying to protect you from the fighting. (Aleksander) - You lured me away from my friends. (Alina) - To keep you safe. (Aleksander) - To kill them. (Alina) - Only the Lantsovs. But my creations are somewhat unpredictable. Not unlike you. (Aleksander) - Get out of my head. (Alina) - Why must you be so difficult? I’m only doing this because I care about you. Let me help you. I’ll be back for you. I have no intention of hurting you. You must know that by now. (Aleksander) - Forgive me if I don’t take you at your word. (Alina) - I was honest about what mattered. (Aleksander) - Like creating the Fold? (Alina) - Your obsession with the Fold is naive. Destroying it won’t solve Ravka’s problems. They’ve hated us and hunted us long before the Fold existed. I was there. Now stop this, please. And come with me. We’ll rule together side by side. I promised that you and I would change the world. And I intend to keep that promise. (Aleksander) - That is never going to happen. (Alina) - How do you see this playing out? You and your Lantsov Prince happily ever after? Your faithful tracker curled up at the foot of your throne. I have seen what you truly are, and I have never turned away. I never will. Can they say the same? (Aleksander) - They’re not the ones obsessed with power and control. (Alina) - Power must be controlled. And you are playing a very dangerous game with it. (Aleksander) - You don’t want me to tear down the Fold, because if I do, I’ll destroy the only thing you have left. (Alina) - Have it your way.” (Aleksander)
