My mate who does loads of work experience with animals and on farms and stuff said something like 'it's physically hard work but at the end of the day your mind is clear - and you got to work with animals!' And I-

There is nothing wrong with your local retail worker daydreaming about propping up chicken wire, or tilling their tiny front yard. What is so bad about imagining a life where a chunk of your food came from your own hands, and not the hands of a corporation that deems itself a person? 

There are great, rich evils in the world that over grow their corn and ice it with pesticides like a cake, but that retail worker isn't them. Great evils that pay their poor, migrant workers just as much or less than the 4-hour-sleepers you call co-workers. The kids at the counter with overlooked college degrees and mountains of debt aren't those evils.

Is it wrong to want some control in a place that consistently reminds you that you have none; that you didn’t consent to this, but that’s just too bad? Is it not your place to become educated on how to care for your community and the land without draining every inch of nutrition from the ground, and without drastically reducing the water table’s limited supply? There’s a reason you cannot collect rainwater in many locations. 

Generations of farmers, of middle-o-nowhere grandchildren, of rented land, stretch up into every branch of my family tree since the eighteen-hundreds. Possibly even further than my reach can find. Hundreds of years on the land, and it only took one generation to change that. Twenty years make all the difference. The only similarity is my modern, millennial family struggles to pay rent the same way my great, great, great grandparents struggled to support their farm.

So there’s nothing wrong with the couch-surfers dreaming up a life in which their own hands make some difference. It means nothing to count the till at night, like a starving dog’s drooling eyes tracking a steak’s progression into her owner’s teeth. But it means something to feed yourself; to replace the lost nutrients back into the ground. It means something to give away your access, because the grocer poisons theirs. It mean something to have control, poor as you are, over at least this one little thing.

And if that becomes a “trend?” Then let it become a trend. There are worse things could be popularized.

he never seems to lose many followers for it though

his original posts are funny enough that people put up with it

he’s that user that you start following out of genuine interest and then realise that you’ve already rbed a lot of their popular posts and you’re like

he has tags dedicated to each of his friends, they’re usually filled with shitposts or one of their Big Interests 

eddie has two tags, one he knows about, one he doesn’t, and gets mad at richie for not telling him who the tag is for 

the one he doesn’t is full of really gay shit

stan’s blog started out as a big vent but it was starting to get Unhealthy™ so they switched up their content 

stan knows about richie’s secret tag for eddie and constantly gives richie shit for it like they vague posts about it all the time to get under richie’s skin

‘the intricate rituals of creating a seperate LoveCore tag for the best friend ur pining for....... like the richard siken of it all.......’ ‘THIS IS BIPHOBIA STAN’

it’s 70% bird watching stuff, 20% posts for mike, 9% vaguing about richie’s gay shit, 1% abt being nb (because i fucking CAN ok)

they also have a pretty impressive following, some of it is due to being mutuals with richie, but a lot of it is due to the Wholesome Bird Content

its a surprise to them but they get so damn happy when they receive asks and stuff about their favourite bird watching spots or how to distinguish between different subspecies

she makes things like pins and sew on patches that are really fucking good

she gains a pretty big following from that, people like her stuff and she has a really good quality track record

richie models for her sometimes and everyone kinda loves it

she has a lot of stuff about ethical fashion and makes a lot of posts about the problems with the fashion and clothing industries (eg fast fashion and sizeism)

she also has some quality shitposts

he takes photos around his farm and posts them and ohhh everyone loves them

same energy as stan’s blog (he has a lot of photos of them and the two of them together as well)

he also writes important dates down as well as books he likes

a Solid shitpost now and then but it’s mostly Pure and Wholesome content

people love his photography and unfortunately it gets stolen a lot but other aesthetic blogs but he doesn’t mind so much

he also is the only loser other than bev with an actual Impressive theme: it’s sleek and really fits the vibe

though every now and again he’ll rb one of richie or bev’s shitposts just for a little variety

he posts horror stuff (both from other people as well as his own art/writing) and little bit of vent/rant stuff

his rants are about tropes in horror he hates (eg: ableism and other general bigotry)

his vents are usually about grief or trauma, and he keeps them properly tagged and under a cut

his horror stuff too, he makes sure to keep everything tagged properly and has a link to the tag list in his description 

he sometimes makes a Spicy addition to richie’s posts, and people are like ‘wait why does this Super Serious and Talented creator follow that goblin??’ 

he also rbs a lot of ben’s stuff, people think they’re the same person for a hot minute because ben also writes and draws, but their styles and aesthetics are totally different

all these farmcore/cottagecore aesthetic posts kinda really piss me off. especially the whole romanticisation of farm living where you raise animals and live in a cottage, away from "city life" and "modernity" (whatever the fuck that's supposed to mean lol); because these people clearly haven't lived a farmer's life.

it really isn't as romantic and flowery as tumblr moodboard blogs make it out to be. your farm is always full of weeds and bugs, more often than it is with flowers and butterflies. it smells like poop all the fucking time because animals poop!! a lot!! and you have to clean it up!!

and the animals WILL trample on what you've planted because that's what they do. they walk around, have a good time, they don't care where they do it.

not to mention all the physical labour that goes into maintaining a healthy, ethical farm. there's a good chance that it's always sunny and humid and hot, if you're surrounded by nature so much. and the produce gets overwhelming after a point. your chickens keep laying eggs, cows keep giving milk, tf do you do???? sell it after you can't consume it all? not in this economy love, there's competition in the farmer's market.

and living in a cottage??? please oh my god shut the fuck up. the bugs i can't stress enough on all the fkn bugs and bugbites in every nook and cranny of your home and body.

it is not fun in the slightest. yes it's easy to dream about through rose-tinted glasses, but it's not all raising baby animals and frolicking through meadows. it's exhausting and you're probably privileged with some kind of stable income, to be able to willingly aspire for that life.

Previous anon - I meant more that those farmcore and anti-vegan Tumblrs are deceptive because they're self-deceptive. I think they focus on the fun cute stuff, rationalize and look away from the cruelty (primarily carried out by other people in other parts of the industry anyway) and tell themselves they love animals and the job they enjoy and that forms a huge part of their identity is totes ethical - thus why their blogs do the same. ARAs are the villains for challenging this narrative.

I was trying to also agree with that assessment in my answer but I tend to ramble and my rambling doesn't always make sense sorry >.< your absolutely right and one of the reasons I brought up ex farmers is because they will also talk about how its also self deceptive, they would convince themselves they can be “ethical farmers” a lot of the time, other people will do the slaughtering and they will even lear to view other acts (like separation of babies from mothers, mutilations etc.) as not fine and just a part of the “rewarding job“. The separation will be for the calves benefits (a lie), the mutilations are painless (another lie) so its all self deceptive your absolutely right!
