Ethyra's hair shimmered like fire in the sunlight, the crown she wore like molten gold. She looked regal, like she always did, like Dimanor had raised her. The hilt in my hand dug harder into my skin.

“Who are you?” asked Ethyra with an odd look upon her face.

Instead of answering, I lifted my hand, and the blade shimmered hot in the searing light. On my finger gleamed a slender golden ring. People stood around us, merely dark figures on the horizon. Ethyra rose from her throne, hair dancing in the wind. I grinned and thrust the dagger between her ribs. Hot blood welled over my fingers.

She did not scream, nor struggle, but said, “I wish my sister was here now.”
