Happy National Kitten Day! On May 22, these adorable kittens changed our lives forever and for better. Watch their first moments: the long ride home, their arrival - and their first toys with us. To distract them from the newness, I tossed Scatterballs and they instantly came out of their carrier and started playing. Tamale Creek Fest. 💦Throwback: Watch her explore the creek - it only has water after big rain. This was 2-3 years ago. Tamale never needed a leash. Still recovering: Lollipop didn't want to jump down. Today was Day 3 after spaying, and the first day without pain meds. She made it up to the catio penthouse level on her own, but I'm glad I could assist getting her down. Medley is built much differently and has been all over the place. Neither are supposed to be jumping at all, but that rule failed the first hour they were home. Last night: I always wake them up for last supper, but first the kittens engage in sister-wrestling, which sometimes is so quiet I don't even hear them. Lollipop is nonstop! She's a wildcat 🙀 Spay was successful but Lollipop is pissed off! She growled at the tech, at us, and is revved up. Medley also tried to pull her stitches but I whipped up a covering and she's tolerating that. Bonded: My lap today, with the love-bug sisters. 💕 I let the vet know how bonded they are, so she can keep Lollipop and Medley together before and after their spaying Thursday. They don't always sleep together at night anymore (too big to fit together in their cat beds). But as soon as one wakes up, she goes looking for the other. Medley roams around making high pitched trills, calling out for Lollipop, especially if they're in different rooms. When she finds her, it's pure joy. They get excited seeing each other again!😸 If every person had someone they bonded with as closely as these two, the world would be such a better place. These two! ... I can't imagine what their lives would be like if we had taken only one of them. These little innocents have no idea what's to come! Thursday, when we put them in their carrier, they're gonna think we're going out to the catio. 😸🎉😸 Lollipop and Medley are almost 5-1/2 months old, and now that Lollipop seems to be parasite-free, it's time to get them spayed. We are so fortunate: We've been officially "fostering to adopt" so we could raise the kittens while they were still tiny: the shelter won't release kittens until they are old enough to be spayed or neutered, which makes sense, and the shelters typically do it at 2 months or 2 lbs, or so. Our tiny girls arrived in our lives at 5 weeks old, and it's been nonstop love and kitten partying since day 1. We'll be so relieved when they're home from the vet. Wish them well -- and us (I'm a worrier).
