The Nine Greek Muses
Tumblr media
CALLIOPE
The Muse of Eloquence & Epic Poetry. Can also be spelled Kalliope. In the chart signifies a poet, a talented writer, a beautiful voice or someone good at delivering speeches. Can show someone who uses their voice to get what they want or to seduce, especially when conjunct Venus. She is the oldest of the nine muses & considered the leader of the muses.
Her name means: "Beautiful voiced" from the Greek words kallos and ops.
CLIO
The Muse of History. Can also be spelled ”Klio” Can show an interest in history. Can also show someone who ”makes history” In the natal chart its a fame indicator and an indicator of being interested in history. Can make you unforgettable. Ive seen this in the 11th house of a person who was involved in a scandal on the internet and since then her name has been linked to that.
Her name means: "To make famous" or "celebrate." from the Greek verb kleô.
URANIA
The Muse of Astronomy & Astrology. Back then astrology and astronomy was considered the same. She was also considered Muse of mathematics. In the chart she indicates talent and strong interest in astrology, astronomy, the stars, mathematics and metaphysics in general.
Her name means: ”Heavenly" or "of heaven"
THALIA
Muse of Comedy & Idyllic Poetry. In the chart it shows a comedic talent. Conjunct the Ascendant can be someone who are good at funny expressions. Harsh aspects can shows someone who tries too hard to be funny or someone whos humour is not appreciated.
Her name means: "Rich festivity" or "blooming."
MELPOMENE
Muse of Tragedy. In the chart it can show where we experience tragedy, grief or loss and what makes us experience these things. In the chart of an actor it indicates a talent in playing tragic and sad roles. If it conjuncts Venus the person might experience a lot of tragedy in love. If conjunct asteroid talent it indicates a talent with these topics and for example work as a psychiatrist.
Her name means: "To celebrate with dance and song."from the Greek verb melpô or melpomai
POLYHYMNIA
The Muse of Hymns & Meditation. In the chart can make someone calm, peaceful and collected. Definitely an introvert indicator and can show someone who doesnt not talk a lot. She is often depicted holding a finger to her mouth.
Her name means: "Praise" or "hymn." from the Greek words poly- "many" and hymnos
ERATO
The Muse of Erotic Poetry & Mimic Imitation. In astrology shows someone who acts as a muse for erotic art. Prominent in the chart of sex symbols & adult movie stars. If conjunct the Ascendant or Midheaven shows someone who awakes erotic imaginations in others.
Her name means: "Lovely" or "beloved" from the Greek word eratos.
EUTERPE
The Muse of Music. In the chart it shows musical talent. Singing and songwriting. Also prominent in the charts of DJs since they know what the public wants to hear. Can also show what you make music about. Ive seen this conjunct Venus in the chart of a woman who dated a musician who made songs about her.
Her name means: "Giver of much delight." from the Greek words eu- and terpô.
TERPSICHORE
The Muse of Dancing. In the chart she gives talent in dancing & choreography. The legendary balet dancer Vaslav Nijinsk has Terpsichore conjunct Venus and Anna Pavlova have it conjunct her Part of Fortune. They both helped establish the Russian Ballet. Both of them household names because of their dance talent.
Her name means: "Delighting in Dance" from the Greek words terpsis "to delight" and khoros "dance".

Percy, singing dramatically, clutching his chest: What about us?! What about everything we’ve been through?!
Nico, singing along, melancholically: And what about trust?!
Percy, teary-eyed, reaching for Nico’s face: You know I never wanted to hurt you…!
Grover and Rachel, watching from afar: …
Grover: What the hell are they doing…?
Rachel, nonchalantly: One of the Euterpe kids cursed them and now they’re using it as a way to have a talk about their feelings… Like people do in musicals.
(Nico, hitting a high note in the background: AND WHAT ABOUT MEEEEeeeEeeEeeEEeeE?! 😭)

Please fullview! (': You get a detail shot of the lyre either way because it has details harder to see even in proper fullview.
Some inspiration talk under the cut!
Tumblr media
I used this fresco of a lyre player as inspo for Paris' clothing. The restoration of the upper half looks different, but given there are lines that the restoration haven't followed through on, I feel it's much more logical the lyrist is wearing a tunic like we usually see, and that what he's wearing on the bottom is a wrap-around fringed skirt like we see women have instead of what the restoration seems to be going for, which is a sort of... robe/dress? The mountains in the wall fresco was also partially inspired by the rocks he's sitting on.
I was originally going to try and include all nine Muses and even Apollo on the bottom of the lyre, but I kinda ran out of steam and there isn't really enough space, anyway. So instead I've limited it to the Muses that seemed to me to "fit" Paris' general spheres of music/personality; Erato for love poetry, Euterpe for lyric poetry, Terpsichore for dancing, Thalia for bucolic/pastoral poetry, and lastly Kalliope for epic poetry!
Paris is not holding/playing that lyre as an Achaean lyrist would, with a plectrum; he's plucking it with his fingers like he would on an Eastern asymmetrical lyre instead I forgot he should've been using a plectrum but shhh this works too
Tumblr media
:) the cups I took inspiration from this one, plus adding the the very popular octopus motif as well.

Fame in Astrology Pt 2
Topic: Singers🎤🎶
Tumblr media
Hey y’all I’m back with the 2nd part of my fame series! The first part we talked about actors & where in your chart in your chart can you see fame and what you need to look for if you want to act yourself.
Here’s a link to that post:
Now in this post, we’ll discuss what to look for when it comes to singing! You can check your own chart to see to see if you have the ability or look up your favorite singers!
I’ll use Whitney Houston for examples because everyone knows her. I try to use well known people because I don’t know where everyone is from on here.
Disclaimer: this is just my observation and this is just for entertainment purposes only, also don’t steal my work
Let’s begin!
1. When singing is involved, the first thing we need to look at is Venus.
Venus rules over music, the vocal chords, voices and singing abilities.
Ex. Whitney has Venus Leo tightly conj her Leo sun.
2. Now we look at the 2h and where Taurus is at in the chart.
The 2h is ruled by Taurus and Taurus rules over the throat.
Ex. Whitney has Aries 2h with moon conj Jupiter.
Aries, another fire sign, made her have a powerful voice out of this world! With moon here, it made her have a beautiful voice thats pleasing to the ears. Jupiter expands whatever house it’s in. 2h rules over wealth and money, so she was able to become highly successful from her voice.
3. This may come as a surprise but we’re going to talk about Mars next.
I know you’re like huh, what does that have to do with singing?!? But hear me out yall.
You may have the vocals but what kind of performer are you? Singers perform on stage and I believe Mars + Sun can show us what will work best for you.
Mars rules over action and movement
Sun rules over performance
Now combine the two together.
Ex. Now I never been to a Whitney concert so I YouTubed one from the 90s and it reflects back in her chart so well lol
She has Mars Libra and Leo sign(they trine together) now she herself didn’t do a whole lot of physical movement on stage but she doesn’t has to because she has such a captivating voice that it actually worked in her favor! I did noticed that she always dressed so elegant and wore beautiful dresses on stage(libra) and she had background dancers if she was singing a dance song
4. Now let’s talk about your star power!
Tumblr media
Mc-public image and career
Sun/house Leo rules/5h- overall fame
11h-how society views you and your social circles
Ex. Whitney has Leo sun and Venus 6h, people loved her and wanted to work with her as well. Her voice brought comfort to people. She had cancer 5h, she sang songs that people could relate to, songs that had deep emotions in them.
Mc Sagittarius with ruler(Jupiter) in Aries 2h with moon here, worldwide fame, men and women alike loved her.
11h Capricorn with ruler(Saturn) in Aquarius 12h. She’ll be remembered as one of the greatest, 12h rules over icons and with Saturn here, she’ll always be famous. I believe a new about her is out right now which is funny cause it’s technically her 2nd Saturn return. Yes your birth chart energy still continues after your death.
Singing asteroids: more prominent if it aspects a personal planet(sun, moon, mercury, mars, venus)
Singer(10698)-your singing abilities, what you may sing about
Euterpe(27)- musical , songwriting , and singing abilities
(K)Calliope(22)- beautiful voice, have a way with words, writing abilities.
Fama(408)- your overall fame
Varuna(20000)-worldwide fame
Aura(1488)-your overall vibe and energy
I hope you enjoyed the 2nd part to this series! Next part is models so keep a look out

Asteroids - The Nine Muses
Tumblr media
Hello everyone!
We are back today with an introductory post to our next series: The asteroids associated with the nine muses in Greek Mythology!
We wanted to give a little background on these by talking about their mythology overall, and make this a little landing page for these asteroids. Each of the muses is associated with a talent or gift of some sort, usually in the fine arts, and their asteroids are associated with the same gifts. Each muse is going to have a different post where we talk about the mythology behind the asteroid, as well as what it affects or indicates in someone's individual birth chart.
*Please do not copy, redistribute, or alter and claim our work as your own. We work really hard on our content, so please be considerate and credit us for the time, effort, knowledge, and love we put into our posts. All of our astrology posts are for entertainment purposes only (we aren't licensed in things like medicine or psychology so we legally have to put this here) and as such should be taken as they resonate, and not as legal, medical, or health advice. Not everything will fit with you exactly with astrology in every situation, so please be discerning about what feels right for you. 💜 *
Mythology:
The nine muses are the beautiful daughters of Zeus, the ruler of the gods, and Mnemosyne, the goddess of memory. The story is that Zeus found Mnemosyne very attractive, and disguised himself as a human shepherd in order to lure her into sleeping with him. They slept together for nine consecutive nights, and each night they conceived one of the muses. They were all born in Pieria at the foot of Mount Olympus. It is said that Mnemosyne gave the babies to Apollo and a nymph named Eufime. Apollo raised them on Mount Parnassus, Helicon, or Elikonas. (It's debated where they actually resided between these three places). He taught them to express their talents in the arts, as he himself was a god who loved fine arts and music. They grew up to perform for, and entertian, the gods residing on Mount Olympus. In doing so they also were the ones who encouraged inspiration and imagination for many artists and scientists.
In other myths: The Muses are sometimes referred to as water nymphs, and there are some accounts of them having been born from the four sacred springs on Mount Helicon that appeared when Pegasus stomped his foot on the ground there.
The muses are known as the inspirational goddesses of literature, sciences, and the arts (including art, music, dancing, etc.) The etymology of the word "muse" has a meaning of desire, wish, or inspiration, and this word is also where we get the modern day "museum" from. (Which honestly makes sense you know...because museums have art and science in them.) Muses are seen, even today, as inspiration for artistic creation. That's why we have the term "my muse." They are also inspiration for the creation of many instruments, languages, and different types of writing and poetry.

Thing I made for my Stolen Throne AU.
There are the 'extinct' species that lived on the Red Line during the void century on my AU.( 'extinct' is written like that because some still there descendents until the current time bit not 'pure-blood'. Also not added the Lunarians because they are canon species)
SOLARIANS: The solarians are the species that lived alongside the lunarians, they had big wings and horns. There discussions about the origins of they, some saying they are the results of the mixing of Lunarians and Onis and others that they are the precursors of said species. The main family are Drayce family, ancestors of the clan of D . Head at the time: Queen Moh-Key Drayce of Marijoise.
PHEONIX: The pheonixes are humanoid beings with feathers for hair and around their faces and limbs, they could also turn into a full bird form. They are taller than an average human and their bird form are at the side of the imperial eagle. Head of the time: Queen Amara Kafsi of Oreas. Another important person was Caleb Kafsi, Queen's Amara half brother and Moh-key's future husband
VAMPIRE: The Vampire are pale(not white, pale like a corpse) beings, they had a slow heartbeat and are know for their yellow eyes. They drink blood and eat raw meat. Are agile and sensible to sunlight(wouldn't kill them but make they sick). They also had a Island in the granline as part of their domains. Their life span was around 200 years old and they didn't age too much after some age. Head at the Time: Empress Persephone Sângerare of Sangria.
FEY: The fey are fairy like beings. They are small but taller than the tontatta being around 120cm–140cm. They are really know for their precision in shooting and their ability to hide. They had insect wings with the royal family having butterfly ones. They all could talk with the nature using the voice of all things. Head at the time: King Realta Bryn of Ardeen.
MUSE: The muses are a music, stories and science guied people, they are know for their bright red hair and purple eyes. They are not all female as some believe. They come after their founders the nine muses and for that they chose a path. Like if some are science aligned they said that 'they follow the path of Urania' or if they are music aligned that "they follow the path of Euterpe/Erato'. They are aways rulled by a triad. Heads at the time: The triad Lyric Aria( follower of the path of Erato), Cosmos Ananta (Follower of the path of Urania) and Opera Miseri (Follower of the path of Melpomene) of Helikon.

Dungeons & Dragons (inspired) AU
Mozart is a Kalashtar Bard
If you disagree, you are wrong /j
Bards are basically based on him fr
Kalashtars get a +2 in Wisdom which is really funny, and +1 in Charisma which he would
They also get advantage on Wisdom saving throws and resistance to psychic damage
Salieri would 100% know and abuse Vicious Mockery
I mean just look at the musical, he's doing it already and Wolfgang doesn't seem to be hurt or even touched by his words so I assume he's defended against it in some way
Also, the Quori spirit his family is linked to is named Euterpe
She's big on music and really close to him, but barely talk to his dad and sister
She used to talk a lot to Nannerl but stopped at one point
She appears to him as a younger version of himself, not unlike in the German musical "Mozart! Das Musical"
She calls herself "Amadeus" with him for some reason, which explains the "Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart"
I swear Kalashtar make sense for him
Also he's trans
He's level 12, high but not too high
Salieri is a Yuan-Ti Pureblood Warlock
+2 in Charisma, +1 in Intelligence, tell me this isn't perfect
Yuan-Ti are associated with poisons and know the Poison Spray cantrip and have poison resistance which considering the rumors, is perfect
Yuan-Ti Purebloods are seen as somewhat outsiders in both Yuan-Ti and non-Yuan-Ti communities, being too humanoid for one and too serpentine for the other
Salieri was seen as too much of a German composer in Italy, and Austria never forgot where he was from despite his best efforts to fit in
That being said, Yuan-Ti are usually pretty detached from their emotions and act pretty cold
Also, it allows him to know 3 languages which fits his real life repertoire (Italian, German and French to my knowledge)
Basically, it's perfect
As for his Patron, it's a Homebrew called the Shadowmaster
Essentially it works like Archfey but with reflavoured spells
He knows Dissonant Whispers
I will not explain why this is absolutely perfect
His Patron eventually kills Mozart and Salieri can't do anything about it
It's very sad
Oh, and his brooch is actually an Arcane Focus
It used to be an Orb but it shattered and the shards were used to make his brooch
And his dagger is his pact weapon
Pact of the Blade, of course
He doesn't have a single Bard level but he did learn Vicious Mockery on his own and doesn't need his Patron's approval to cast it
It does count in his known cantrips
He wishes he had learned healing cantrips instead
My man has the stoopid
He'd be around level 14, or at least that's the level I'm basing him on
The Weber Family are Eladrins
Both parents change with the seasons while the daughters stick with only 1 season
Josepha is Autumn
Aloysia is Winter
Don't try to argue, it's perfect
"Contemplation and dolor, when the vibrant energy of the world slumbers"
I see Aloysia as a deeply hurt character, very in touch with her emotions and cursing at them, not unlike Salieri, but also trying to find a way to use them to her advantage instead of just shoving them away
Tell me this doesn't fit well with what we see of her in Bim Bam Boum
Speaking of Bim Bam Boum, she has 6 levels in Lunar Sorcery
Again, it makes sense
And eventually she multiclasses into Bard (College of Glamour ofc) because her aspiration was to not just practice magic but also get some base understanding of how it worked
My girl did NOT want to get into a Wizard school tho
When Mozart sees her again, she took 3 levels in Bard and was feeling more confident than ever in her magic, both learned and innate
Constance is Summer
She's a Wild Sorceress, not that her parents care much for her magic
She's kinda jealous of Aloysia for being able to cast a spell without risking blowing up the place
Sophie is Spring
Level 2 Life Cleric, surprisingly
She was a nurse IRL, that's why
Joseph II is a Human Paladin
Level 18, Oath of Conquest
His deity is probably associated with Light due to his link IRL with the Lumières and the enlightenment period thing
"He has been ranked with Catherine the Great of Russia and Frederick the Great of Prussia as one of the three great Enlightenment monarchs" (Wikipedia)
Basically, I'm right
People still called him an Enlightened Despot or smtg so Oath of Conquest? Makes sense
Those only need to make sense to me
He's an Emperor, he needs to be powerful
Gassmann was an Half-Elf Cleric
Cleric of Milil so Light Domain
Salieri wanted to be a Cleric too at first, but no deity believed in him enough due to his race
Gassmann is actually the one who suggested he finds himself a Patron
He believed in Salieri
He was right to do so
He would be so proud
Also a little sad to see all the self hatred but eh
Basically just a good dad
We love ourselves a good "second dad Gassmann"
I do at least
Colloredo is a Human Cleric
Ambition Domain
Not very open about his deity
I swear it made sense when I wrote it
Everyone else are commoners
Level 0
People don't realize how powerful even level 1 actually is
Rosenberg is a Kobold
Small, cowardly race used to servitude and who basically needs to be in a group or have someone tell them what to do? Perfect
Da Ponte is a Changeling
Unlike Salieri, in real life, people often forgot about his nationality, so I think that him being an exotic race yet no one noticing is fitting
Cavalieri is a Half-Siren
I will not explain
If I didn't name them, either I named direct family members (Léopold and Nannerl are Kalashtar for instance, but Anna-Maria is Human) or they are Human

After yesterday's quick break to discuss something else, I am back with the asteroid meaning posts. While I do hope to talk about more than just the meanings of asteroids (and more than the asteroids period), I am too far into the muse posts to stop now. It's too late to back down now that I've already completed one third of them, so let's just see it through to the end. Hope you like this post.
Euterpe is a goddess in Greek (and later Roman) mythology, described as being one of the nine muses. She is the daughter of Zeus and Mnemosyne and the mother of the Thracian King Rhesos by the river god Strymon. Euterpe is regarded as the Muse of Lyric Poetry, which in Ancient Greece was limited to song lyrics or chanted verses. She is believed to have invented the double flute along with other woodwind instruments. It is the double flute that has become her main attribute, helping distinguish her from her sisters.
The asteroid Euterpe was discovered by John Russell Hind on the 8th of November, 1853 in London, England. It is the parent asteroid of the the Euterpe asteroid family (410) which has almost five hundred members. It is also one of the brightest known asteroids in our night sky. The asteroid takes roughly 1,310 days to travel around the zodiac, spending roughly 109 days in each sign.
Within my own research into the asteroid, Euterpe can be used to represent the native’s lyrical music (i.e. songs that have lyrics), lyric writing ability, propensity for singing or wood instruments, and their experiences with musicals and operas. Remember to check the sign, house, degree, and any aspects Euterpe makes when interpreting this placement. You can also have a look at Euterpe’s persona chart if you feel confident enough.

The Muses: Greek Gods and Goddesses
Tumblr media
“We are the muses Goddesses of the arts And proclaimers of heroes”
If your house is anything like mine, you probably have quite a few Disney Movies stashed around. Even before we had Munchkin, Mr Moose and I bonded over our love of movies, songs and quoting lines.
Tumblr media
These 5 ladies are sassy, have some really good songs and are so pretty. Currently, as an adult with an appreciation of History, Mythology and Art, I love the Muses even more.
Tumblr media
We recently added a 3 year old Nubian doe named Calliope to our group, she goes by Callie for short. She’s sassy, tries to be in charge and definitely fits her name.( In fact, if you’re curious about which Alcohol brand it is. There’s a brand of wines called Calliope Wines based out of Canada, so we didn’t even have to change her name!)
Consequently, I wanted to do some more research on this set of ladies. Who are literally referred to as THE Inspirations of Science, The Arts, Astronomy and more.
History Behind The Muses
Tumblr media
The Muses Origin Story(s)
The daughters of Zeus and The Titaness Mnemosyne, goddess of memory, the Muses lived on Mount Olympus entertaining the Gods. Later, they were moved to Mount Parnassus or Mount Helicon depending on who’s research you follow.
However, the other origin story of the Muses is that they are water nymphs who sprung from the four sacred springs on Mount Helicon when Pegasus proceeded to stomp his hooves upon the ground. Most people follow the origin of them being daughters of Zeus.(Which makes the movie Hercules,about their little brother.)
Putting a Face to the Names
Tumblr media
Worshipers of The Muses
Being Goddesses, The Muses had their own following of Worshipers. Scattered all over South and Central Greece, worshipers of The Muses were commonly found at either Mount Helicon in Boeotia and Pieria in Macedonia. Festivals were held frequently all over Greece, full of Poetry Competitions and Dancing and Singing. Pythagoras, the inventor of the Pythagorean Theorem is one of the more famously known followers of the Muses.
Who Are The Muses?
There are 9 Muses total, each with a focus on her area of expertise and inspiration. Some have had children, others have not.
Muse #1-Calliope
Tumblr media
Epic Poetry is a lengthy narrative told in a storytelling manner. In fact, some well known examples include Homer’s The Iliad and The Odyssey as well as Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy. The Muses and their mother are actually mentioned in both of Homer’s works.
Calliope has several sons depending on the lore. The 2 most known are Orpheus and Linus. Orpheus was the great musical hero of Greek mythology, and Linus was the inventor of rhythm and melody.
Tumblr media
Calliope is known to have been the inspiration for Heroic poems and Rhetoric Arts.
Calliope is physically represented as wearing a gold crown and typically carrying a scroll, book or tablet in her hands.
Muse #2- Clio
Tumblr media
Clio is known as the pro-claimer, glorifier and celebrator of history, great deeds and accomplishments. She is the inspiration and namesake for various modern brands.
Clio has one son, Hyacinth. Story has it; Clio, after reprimanding the goddess Aphrodite for her passionate love for Adonis, was punished by Aphrodite, who made her fall in love with Pierus, king of Macedonia. In spite of that,they bore a son named Hyacinthus, a young man of great beauty who was later killed by his lover, the god Apollo. From his blood sprang a flower (the hyacinth).
Clio is often represented holding an open scroll or sitting by a stack of books.
Muse #3- Erato
Lyric Poetry is poetry expressing personal emotions or feelings, typically spoken in first person. However, lyric poetry is of no relation to the word lyrics when talking about song lyrics.
She is typically represented holding a wreath of myrtle and roses or holding a Kithara(lyre) or a Golden Arrow.( She’s often represented accompanied by Cupid or Eros as well)
Muse #4-Euterpe
She serves as the inspiration for many courses and dialects in language. As well as the inspiration for various instruments.
Muse #5-Melpomene
The inspirations from Melpomene include; tragedy dramas, rhetoric speeches and Melos,the succession of musical tones constituting a melody.
Melpomene is always represented holding a tragedy mask. Other representations can include boots commonly worn by tragedy actors or a knife or sword held in her opposite hand.
Muse #6-Polyhymnia
Sacred Poetry is a collection of works including hymns and other religious texts.
Polyhymnia is the inspiration for Divine Hymns, Mimic Art, Geometry and Grammar.
Her representation is a serious expression, a finger held to her lips in silence and a long cloak or veil.
Muse #7-Terpsichore
She is the inspirations for Dance, the Harp and Education as a whole.
Terpsichore is the other Muse known as Mother of Sirens. One of the most known Sirens, Parthenope, cast herself into the sea after her songs failed to ensnare Odysseus.
Muse #8-Thalia
Idyllic Poetry or Idyll Poems,are typically a short poem, descriptive of rustic life.
Thalia is known as being the inspiration for Comedy Drama, Geometry, Architectural Science and Agriculture.
Muse #9- Urania
She is associated with universal love and astronomical writings. It was said Urania could tell the future by the arrangement of the stars.
Urania is said to have inherited her majesty and power from her father Zeus, and her beauty and grace from her mother.
The “10th” Muse
Little is known about her history and many of her works have been lost to time. There are several theories that she is the inspiration for the word Lesbian and other LGBTQ+ phrases. One of her only completed works that can be found is a poem titled “Ode to Aphrodite”.
The Muses’ Purpose
The Muses were created to help the People and the Gods to forget their troubles and suffering through art, music and poetry. In fact, these 9 women were very close to each other and, subsequently, still serve as inspiration for many of the Arts today.
Mentions of the Muses in Popular Culture
In contrast to Homer and Dante’s works, the Muses are mentioned in a number of modern cultures as well.
My favorites include the Disney movie “Hercules” where the Muses are the musical narrators throughout the movie. My other favorite is the Book series Xanth by Piers Anthony. In Xanth, the Muses live on Mount Parnassus and are one of several residents visited to be asked questions pertaining to their( the visitor’s) quests.
Other examples include:
Rick Riordan’s mythical series: Percy Jackson and the Olympians, Heroes of Olympus and The Trials of Apollo.
South Korean all-female idol group debuted under the name ‘Nine Muses’
The show Charmed, an episode features The Charmed Ones who must protect the Muses from a warlock who is trapping them into a magical ring.
The Muse Calliope is a character in the graphic novel Sandman, by Neil Gaiman.
There are tons of other pop culture references to the Muses, from Animes, Comics, Musical, Movies and Books.
Who Inspires You?
In a word, the Muses are an Inspiration, not only in Ancient Greece but also in the modern realm as well. Who is your favorite Muse? Will you be calling on a Muse next time you need inspiration?

This is me, this is what happens here
Now that I am here a few days/weeks, I decided to write a quick pinned post to give you an idea of what to expect here.
You can expect things from all over with a focus on FFXIV, but depending on my current hyperfixation it may shift to other things.
I try to keep this blog "tame" but there might be things not suitable for minors so: be aware of that and do not hang out if you are younger than 18 years. Thank you :-)
A few word about me: I am a 30+ years old female (she/her) from Germany. English isn't my first language and I struggle with it here and there so if things sound weird: that's the reason. I love fantasy, SciFi, Cyberpunk, sparkly and/or dark stuff. It's a weird collection  ^^ I still try to figure out this site here and if I act weird with tags, likes, rebloggs etc: let me know, please. I try to figure out the etiquette here but it fells like moving to a big house where everybody lives there since "hundrets of years" and noone hung up the house rules in a for new residents well visible place.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The tags I currently use under the cut (will add new ones when I create them)
Littevi's thoughts  - my tag for things I think about, random stuff from all over the place. May be connected to a fandom but doesn't have to.
Littevi on Etheirys - my tag für everything FFXIV-related I post.
Litte-V in Night City - I love Cyberpunk2077 and want to post more about it, so I made a tag for that.
I have some OCs I want to talk about. Here are the oc-tags and tags related to them:
FFXIV
oc: Yorianna Limai - one of my FFXIV Ocs and the Warrior of Light in my world. She is a Duskwight Elezen, an linguist and antique collector. And she is a Dragoon - not by choice but because fate didn't leave her a choise. It's fine though, she accepted it but every now and then she looks at the scholar's book and the redmage's weapon she used to wield before. Her name is Yorianna, but she mostly is called by the shorter form, Yorina
SilverGoldLinings - I ship Yorina with Aymeric and created a new tag for them (people who know me from other plattform may know Silver&Gold as tag for them)
oc: Nyx-Azem - Yorina's ancient self. A quiet person, eager to travel the world an help the people. She loved to collect little trinkets from everywhere she went and store them in her apartement in Amaurot. I rarely post about her but set up a tag, just in case.
oc: Ilmie Duremert - another OC, a wildwood Elezen and friend of Yorina. She was born and raised in Ishgard where she met Yorina at the Astrologian's guild. Later she left the city and traveled through Eorzea. Eventually, she settled in Gridania, abandoned the astrologians arts and became a bard.
WoodlandVerses - I ship Ilmie with Guydelot, the Elezen from the bard-questline. This is the tag for them
oc: Euterpe - Ilmies ancient self. She is based in Amaurot and has a strong desire to create music and inspires others to do the same. She is working on a new instrument to make the sound of aether audible to everyone. She is a friend of Hythlodaeus, who occacionally gives her some tips and hints where she could make useful changes to her concept. I don't post much about Euterpe as well, but wanted to set the tag, just in case
oc: Luca Seabreeze - Luca is a Vii (Viera) from the First and a shard of Ilmie. She left her home in the Rak'tika Greatwood at a young age and came to Kholusia after some time of travelling. She never even tried to get into Eulmore and stayed on the lower parts of Kholusia instead. She wields a Gunblade and sees it as her destined duty to protect the people there until the Sineaters will finally be defeated.
CP2077
oc: Vivien Caine - my V, a former corpo who got kicked out… who knows the story, knows it all ^^ She is trained with mantis blades and the katana and in my world, she has chosen to help Hanako the get the corporation back on track. After Johnny was gone, she went to Japan to live her last months there, befriended Oda and found her end during a task to help protecting Hanako during a big festivity.
oc: Alexis - a Netrunner and streetkid that got recruited by Vivien to gather infos on the street and forward them to Arasaka. As soon as Alexis heard about Vivien being removed from Arasaka, she went into hiding untill the dust had settled. After all, she couldn't be sure if whoever was after Vivien would be after her sources as well.
I have more OCs and will edit this post whenever necessary :-)
Okay since the trailer for Watching and Dreaming dropped maybe I should drop a quick list of what makes Murder They Cast distinct from Canon:
The Day of Unity is also referred to as ‘Unity Day’.
Fizza and Yara’s family used to live in Palm Stings when they were very young.
Salem is the middle child of 5 in their Cait Sidhe litter.
Euterpe’s parents build and repair stringed instruments and it’s a subsidiary of the Bard Coven.
Blacksmith’s coven is a subsidiary of the Construction Coven.
Moira has cyclops ancestry from her paternal side.
Tello has Dullahan ancestry from his maternal side.
Internships on the Isles are called Apprenticeships.  I really don’t want to talk about the Child labor laws.
Proteus is one year older than Vee.
Ronan is protege to someone else in the Emperor’s Coven.
Emperor’s castle has it’s own staff lead by butler Estragon Mabinogi, valet of Emperor Belos.
The Abdominal Valley is going to be the straight up Wild West and is famous for a hidden temple.
You’ve heard of Apple Blood, well when life gives you lemons, make Lemon Blood.
White Bull gives you wings, this one’s pretty explanatory.
Boiling Isles Marshmallows are called Harshmallows.
Pixie Dust doesn’t make you instantly levitate, it’s the Boiling Isles equivalent of Cocaine.  Other types of drugs are the Ophidian Root and Newt Venom.
‘Titan on the Rocks’ is a really good exclamation, and a famous cocktail.
Have you ever zoned out so hard you create a Batman villain?
Euterpe Chanson was born to the sound of singing, her father being able to think of no better way to welcome her into the world. This turned out to set the tone, for it seemed that her home and her travels with her parents were always full of music. And as she struggled her way to learning to talk, and even after that sometimes struggled to find the right words to express her meaning, she had an uncanny knack for finding the right quote from the right song. And then her parents would always know what she meant.
So it might have remained, if her parents had not been killed in a gangland bombing while she was home with a babysitter. Euterpe was then given into the care of her aunt, who was...not as nice. A cold an unaffectionate woman at the best of times, she was especially infuriated by Euterpe’s tendency to speak in song quotations when emotionally overwhelmed (as a recently orphaned girl is likely to be). Time and again the girl’s attempts at communication were met with “Talk, damn you!” and “Don’t you have anything of your own in that head?” and “Nobody understands you when all you can do is quote song lyrics!”  This seemed to work for a time (or perhaps it was simply that Euterpe achieved sufficient emotional numbness to no longer need her quotations), but as she passed her angriest teenage years, Aunt felt compelled to ban music from the house altogether. And joining the choir? Forget it.
At last she graduated, and moved out on her own, but found that others were only barely more accepting than her aunt. Time and again the perfect lyrical reflection in real life would present itself, time and again she would try to point it out to those around her, and time and again they would only look at her funny,  and roll their eyes. Over time, Euterpe grew furious. Here she was being perfectly clear and always willing to explain herself, and people just weren’t listening, just weren’t trying.
Well, perhaps they would try if given a little more...motivation. And so she donned a suitably thematic costume, took on the moniker of Lyric, and set about creating crimes that are perfectly solvable and preventable...if you can figure out in time what song the building events are based on.
For example, she once gathered a group of accomplices and kidnapped prominent Gotham socialite Joseph Grantham, taking him by boat and holding him hostage in an undisclosed location which turned out to be south Florida. (Away, haul away, and we’ll haul for better weather/Away, haul away, we’ll haul away Joe)
Further notes:
Because she’s all about the lyrics, she pretty much exclusively uses songs that are primarily in English.
She’s not any kind of Meta. She will usually be singing her Song Of The Week at least at some point during her scheme, but she just does that because it makes her happy, not because it gives her any power.
She avoids songs from musicals as a gesture of professional respect toward the Music Meister (True he mostly seems to work with original compositions, but it’s the principle of the thing.) Ordinary songs that have been used in a jukebox musical are still fair game, though.
Her primary costume color is magenta. I’m not quite sure why I’ve decided this, but I have.
A young Dutch historian of the Near East on Herodotus as Father of History
“Daan Nijssen
The Histories of Herodotus: the Father of History
The Histories of Herodotus are the best known historiographical work from Antiquity. Other Greek and Roman historians have written longer and more accurate histories, but none of them has become as popular. The Histories were copied over and over again for nearly 2500 years and have survived almost intact. Why do the Histories of Herodotus fascinate us so much?
The Father of History Herodotus was the first one to write about the past in a systematic way, which earned him the title ‘father of history’. In his quest to find the ultimate cause of the Graeco-Persian Wars, Herodotus basically invented a new science. He needed to interview many people from across the known world, to determine the reliability of his informers and to balance conflicting accounts. He did not only try to reconstruct past events, but he also wrote about the cultural practices of the peoples and the geographical features of the lands that he discussed. For this reason, Herodotus could be considered not only as the father of history, but also as the father of anthropology and geography.
Herodotus as a storyteller Another reason why Herodotus is so popular, is that he speaks in an engaging way. I say ‘speaks’, because Herodotus’s work originally consisted of public lectures. He often directly addresses his audience and includes anecdotes and fun facts in his speeches. Herodotus is also notorious for his lengthy digressions. Whether or not that is a good thing is up to you. Personally I love these digressions, but I know people who loathe Herodotus for this reason. He often stops mid-story to talk about the most minute details for pages on end. When he resumes his story, the reader has often lost track of the original story. Despite the numerous digressions, Herodotus’s Histories do have a solid storyline. The work traces the conflict between Greeks and barbarians chronologically from the moment that the Lydian king Croesus subdued the Ionian city states (before 546 BC) up to the Battle of Mycale (479 BC), although he also refers to earlier periods in his digressions.
Summary Speaking of digressions, part of this is likely due to the fact that Herodotus himself did not edit his own books. These were compiled in Alexandria during the Ptolemaic period (323-30 BC), where scholars put Herodotus’s speeches in a chronological order. The speeches were spread out over nine books that were named after the nine Muses:
Book 1 (Clio) focuses on the origin of the conflict between Greeks and barbarians. Herodotus blames the Lydian king Croesus, the first one to subdue the independent Greek city states on the Ionian coast. Croesus, however, is quickly defeated by the Persian king Cyrus, who takes over the Ionian city states. The story then focuses on Cyrus, his rise to power and the conquests by which he created the Persian Empire. Herodotus gives specific attention to the conquest of Babylon and talks about the geography, history and culture of the land. Book 1 ends with Cyrus’s death at the hands of the Massagetae.
Book 2 (Euterpe) starts with Cambyses, Cyrus’s son, preparing to conquer Egypt. Herodotus soon shifts the attention to the geography, customs and history of Egypt. This digression encompasses all of book 2 and contains a lot of interesting yet dubious information. The book is an excellent example of how 5th century BC Greek intellectuals viewed Egypt; a country that they admired for its antiquity.
Book 3 (Thalia) deals with Cambyses’s conquest of Egypt and his subsequent madness, which led to his early death. After Cambyses’s death, a magos (priest) pretending to be Cambyses’s late brother Smerdis usurps the throne, but seven Persian nobles discover this plot and kill the usurper. Darius, the leader of the seven, then takes over the Persian throne. Towards the end, book 3 contains many digressions about the affairs on the Greek island Samos and about the geography and culture of India and Arabia.
Book 4 (Melpomene) deals with Darius’s wars in Scythia and Libya. The book contains lengthy digressions about the geography of these lands and about the cultural practices of both the Scythians and their neighbors and the peoples of Africa. This book can tell us a lot about how the ancient Greeks viewed those whom they considered ‘less civilized’. This book also describes the geography of the known world. The map below is based on his information.
Book 5 (Terpsichore) deals with the Persian conquest of Thrace and the Ionian Revolt that lay at the origin of the Graeco-Persian Wars.
Book 6 (Erato) deals with Darius’s campaign against Athens, known as the first Graeco-Persian War, and includes a description of the famous battle of Marathon.
Book 7 (Polymnia) deals with Xerxes’s campaign against Athens and Sparta, known as the second Graeco-Persian War. It also contains many digressions about other deeds of Xerxes. Towards the end of book 7 we find a description of the famous battle of Thermopylae.
Book 8 (Urania) deals with the sea battles at Artemisium and Salamis between the Athenian fleet and the allied Persian and Phoenician fleets.
Book 9 (Calliope) deals with the battle of Plataea and the sea battle of Mycale. The book ends rather abruptly, which indicates that Herodotus did not finish his work the way he originally intended.
Reliability Because of his long-lasting popularity, Herodotus has been the main authority on the history of the ancient world for centuries. The fact that Herodotus has long been our only source of information on these civilizations has also contributed to this. Until the 19th century we did not have any contemporary oriental sources and archaeology was still underdeveloped. Nowadays, however, archaeological research and oriental sources like cuneiform clay tablets, hieroglyphs and papyri have given us more accurate information about these peoples. Many pieces of information from the Histories have since been proven wrong, like parts of Herodotus’s description of Egypt, the city plan of Babylon and many statements about the distant past. Other pieces of information have been confirmed, like Darius’s coup against the magos who pretended to be Cambyses’s brother Smerdis, many of the barbaric customs of the Scythians, and the ‘huge, furry, gold digging ants’ of the Himalayas, who apparently were marmots. Overall, Herodotus knowledge of the ancient world in a time when a historian only had oral traditions at his disposal is certainly impressive. Herodotus is also quite objective in his research. Although he shows a slight bias towards the Greeks, he is less ethnocentric than most of his contemporaries and often shares his own doubts with his audience. Furthermore, thanks to his engaging tone people of all times and all places can relate to him. Reading his work gives us an insight not only into the outer appearance of the ancient world, but also into the mind of a curious 5th century BC Greek intellectual.
Translations Numerous translations of the Histories of Herodotus exist. The most widely used ones – those of Rawlinson (1860) and Godley (1920) – are written in highbrow Cambridge English. This adds a certain prestige, but it makes Herodotus look like a Cambridge professor, which of course he was not. He was a passionate storyteller speaking to a vast audience. Modern translations capture this aspect of the Histories better and often include up-to-date prefaces and commentaries. Good examples of modern, annotated translations are those edited by Marincola (1996) and by Strassler (2007).
Very good introductory article. But I think that it is beyond doubt that, even if (as many scholars believe) Herodotus’ work started as a collection of different logoi, it took its current written form and shape as a continuous narrative by Herodotus himself. The Alexandrians only divided it to nine books, to which they gave the name of the nine Muses.
More particularly concerning Egypt, I add to what the author writes that, if  it is true that “parts of Herodotus’s description of Egypt...have been proven wrong”, Herodotus’ Book II on Egypt is the first extant comprehensive account of a foreign civilization. In this quality, and despite all its flaws from a modern point of view, this Book is a milestone in the effort to know foreign cultures and civilizations (this expression is of the eminent Egyptologist Barry Kemp) and, therefore, a milestone in the intellectual history of humanity. Moreover, of course there are errors and inaccuracies in it, something totally explainable given the many objective and subjective obstacles that Herodotus had to face in his effort to understand the Egyptian history and civilization, but, on the other hand, Herodotus’ Book II contains also a lot of accurate and useful information on the Egypt of the Late Period (see for instance about what important Egyptologists say on this topic https://aboutanancientenquiry.tumblr.com/post/679593082776403968/the-leading-egyptologist-salima-ikram-talks-to , .https://aboutanancientenquiry.tumblr.com/post/670420364974833664/the-portuguese-egyptologist-r-sousa-on-the , https://aboutanancientenquiry.tumblr.com/post/670501382477971456/the-egyptologist-j-fr-quack-on-herodotus
Saw your tags on the post about the camp halfblood shirts and now I have to ask: Who is your godly parent?
I had arguments about this with my friends actually back in the day lol
They were mainly thinking main pantheon and kept saying it had to be Athena but I actually think minor gods and the like so I always thought of the muses as godly parents maybe - mainly Urania & Euterpe if we go with my interests etc or maybe Clio (since history was my field of study back in the day) when you talk about what you inherit from your godly parents those just to me always made the most sense
Please let me know your thoughts on the matter and who your godly parent is ;)
