summary: an unexpected person stars for the 118 in the firefighter calendar
genre: angst
warnings: hints at smut & swearing & jealousy
pairing: evan buckley x fem!reader
word count: 1088
note: i am kind of tempted to write another version that ends in smut but I've never written proper smut so I am scared. pls let me know if that is something you guys want <3
also, this is my first post in a couple of years but this has been going around in my head for a couple days
Due to the strict ‘no fraternisation’ rule at the 118, you and Evan had kept your relationship a secret. There had been a few times where someone had nearly caught the two of you, including Eddie walking into the shower room while you and Buck were sharing one cubicle, but no one had caught on yet. In this scenario, Buck had quickly picked you up, wrapped your legs around his waist and covered your mouth with his hand.
Everyone had just assumed the two of you were best friends, you guys had lots of inside jokes and were always working out together, and today was no different. All the men were working out extra hard as the firefighter calendar had just been announced and they were all fighting to star.
Last year, Chimney had surprised everyone and had represented the 118 in the calendar, so the competition was on. Today was the last day of submissions, and impulsively you had decided to enter some photos for the calendar. You didn't need to take any new photos as for Buck’s birthday the month before, you had done a sexy photoshoot and periodically sent them to him, printing off a few which he kept in his wallet.
After the submissions had closed, everyone had been eagerly checking the mail for the calendar delivery as they had decided not to announce who was featuring for each firehouse prior to the release.
Weeks later, you walked into the fire house and were met with whistles by some of the men who you had not spoken to much. Forgetting you had submitted pictures for the calendar you were confused at the sudden attention you were receiving.
“Why is everyone being so weird today?” you asked walking up to Hen, who was also looking at you funny.
“You don’t know?” questioned Hen, to which you simply shook your head.
“Good morning, Miss August!” Eddie exclaimed as he saw you appear upstairs. Suddenly the pieces clicked together, you must have been picked for the calendar.
“Miss August? What are you talking about?” Evan looked up, pausing as he poured himself a drink.
“y/n here, was chosen to represent the 118 in the firefighter calendar.” Eddie said as he pulled the calendar off the wall, flicking to August.
Suddenly, you were met with a picture of you on your knees, wearing your fireproof trousers but no top, the suspenders on your trousers over your shoulders, giving you a small bit of modesty. The strips of fabric only just covered your nipples, the outline of piercings visible through the fabric of the suspenders.
You looked up to Buck whose jaw clenched as he took in the picture before him, which he had seen before, as a copy of it lived behind his driver's license in his wallet. You could see as he tried to regain his composure before deciding what to say next.
“I, uh, I wasn't aware you had submitted pictures for the calendar?” Buck questioned, his voice wavering as he tried to hide his agitation. Now, Buck was usually not a jealous guy, but seeing that picture of you on display on the wall of the firehouse made him want to drive to every firehouse and rip up all the copies of the calendar that had been printed.
“Yeah, I did it on the last day of submissions, I didn't think I'd get picked so I just forgot about it,” you smiled as you spoke to Evan. The two of you held eye contact, not paying attention to the rest of the crew bustling around you. “I must admit I was confused with the wolf whistles when I walked in this morning.”
This sentence triggered Evan’s protectiveness.
“People have been whistling at you? Who? Point them out.” Buck demanded as he walked over to the balcony overlooking the main floor.
“Buck, dude, calm down,” Eddie said as he walked over to Buck “She’s single, and she looks great, of course there’s gonna be some attention.”
“Oh yeah, of course,” Buck said, rubbing the back of his neck. Eddie looked at Buck as he paced, clearly confused by his behaviour.
“Oh y/n, I’ve been meaning to get your help with something, could you come help me?” Buck asked, ignoring the looks Eddie was sending his way.
“Uhh, yeah, just let me drop my bag,” you said as you headed to go put it down.
“Don’t worry, I’ve got it.” Buck grabbed your bag and walked to the locker room downstairs and put it in your locker.
“Buck?” You asked repeatedly as you followed him, getting louder each time until he finally stopped pacing in the locker room.
“Sorry, it’s just, I don’t like everyone seeing you like that,” Buck whispers as he walks towards you. Thankfully the two of you were in a blindspot to the rest of the firehouse so no one could see as he put his hand up to your face and raised your chin so you were looking into his eyes. “Everyone keeps looking at you, because they think you’re single and I just wish I could tell everyone you’re mine.”
“I’m sorry Buck, I should’ve asked you first,” you whispered.
“No, no, it’s your body and you look great in those photos. I just get a little insecure sometimes,” Buck whispered, fiddling with your fingers as you spoke.
“I love you Buck.”
“I love you too. Also, I’m going to be having a boner for the entire month of August at work now, so thank you for that.” Buck laughed
“You know, my shift hasn’t officially started, and I was thinking I needed a shower. Plus, jealous Buck is kind of hot.” you said as you pulled Buck towards the showers.
“That's interesting, because I was thinking I needed a shower after that last call,” Buck said as he used his free hand to start unbuttoning his shirt.
“You definitely do,” You said as you started to unbutton your own shirt.

oblivious - evan buckley x fem!reader

summary: buck and reader are both so stupid they can't realize they're in love with each other.
genre: fluff
warnings: swearing

note: omg not me in my writing era,,,, no but fr if this sucks, please spare me because it's my first time trying to write in years! please like n reblog if you like it! if u don't, please leave constructive criticism. i can take it, i'm not a little bitch :P
In the bustling firehouse atmosphere, Buck and I were rushing up the stairs after a call, hoping to get a bit of peace before the alarm went off again.
I throw myself down on the couch with Buck following suit, both of us still clad in our gear but finally catching our breath. I lean my head back on the couch and close my eyes, but Buck just had to ruin the silence with his big, fat mouth. "I think you might have scared the flames away for good with that one," he quipped, a playful smirk on his lips.
I rolled my eyes with a laugh, picking up a pillow and throwing it at his head. "Oh, please. Like you're one to talk, Mr. 'I Can Handle Any Blaze,'" I retorted, glaring at him with a smile on my face.
We continued back and forth, but our teasing was interrupted by the rest of the 118 walking over to the couch. Hen had a small smirk on her face and I knew she was about to say something stupid. She made it her mission to tease Buck and I every day. "Hey, lovebirds, save the flirting for after the shift," she joked, earning a chorus of laughter from the group.
Buck and I exchanged embarrassed glances, both our cheeks flushing slightly. I just huffed and stuck my finger up towards them, hoping to play it off like I didn't care. "Come on, guys, we're just friends," Buck protested, his tone slightly defensive.
"Yeah, we're friends just like the rest of you, fuck off." I added, feeling embarrassed as they all laughed at us. I turn my head slightly and glance at Buck, my eyes meeting his immediately.
They continued to tease us as they walked over to the kitchen area. Buck and I were still staring at each other. It felt like he was trying to say something but nothing was coming out. "Anyways, they're annoying." I chuckle nervously, trying to play it off as I stand up and walk towards the stairs.
I made my way down them but heard footsteps behind me. I glanced back and saw that Buck was following me. "Do you hate the idea?" Buck asked. His face was red and he was biting the inside of his cheek.
"What do you mean?" I asked curiously, my head tilting slightly. He sighed and grabbed my arm gently, tugging me behind the firetruck.
"Do you hate the idea of us being together? Does it gross you out? Would you like it? I mean give me something y/n." The words tumbled out of his mouth, his hands flying everywhere. He was looking anywhere but at me.
"Buck," I sigh softly, "Of course not. I wouldn't mind being with you." My eyes widen at the words that leave my mouth, watching his face snap towards mine as I begin to panic.
"I mean if that's what you want too!" I exclaimed, my hands shaking as I laughed nervously. My face felt like it was on fire. Oh god, I couldn't do this. I didn't wait for a reaction, I just spun on my heels but his arm stopped me.
Buck wrapped his arm around my waist, pulling me into his chest as he looked down at me, smiling with a small blush on his cheeks. "I knew you couldn't resist me."
I roll my eyes and hit his chest with my hands, letting them rest on his shoulders. "You're insufferable, Buckley," I smile up at him and watch as he glances at my lips before dragging his eyes back up to mine.
I save him the effort and lean up, grabbing the back of his neck and slamming our lips together. My stomach felt like it was on fire as I run a hand through his tousled hair. His lips move against mine with hunger as I giggle into his mouth. "About damn time!"
We both pull away from each other startled, and look up to see Bobby and Hen standing on the balcony looking down at us. They both had huge smiles on their faces. "Eddie! Chim! You will not believe what you just missed!" Hen yelled again as Bobby whooped and clapped his hands. I laughed loudly as Buck slipped his arms around my waist again, pressing a kiss to my temple.
"We should have done this sooner," He mumbled, bumping his head on mine gently. I hum in agreement, "I know, we're too stupid." Buck shook his head and chuckled, pressing a small kiss to my lips. "No, we're smart, we just procrastinated," he whispered, his lips brushing against mine. I pull away, my cheeks flushed as I shake my head. "Well, at least we did it now," I say, my voice barely above a whisper.

PAIRING: evan buckley x fem!reader WARNINGS: blood, reader getting injured GENRE: angst, fluff SONG INSPIRATION: departure by jaron WORD COUNT: 1.1k

Tumblr media
you had just finished shutting the doors of the ambulance, giving it two loud bangs for them to drive before re-joining the crew.
"another great save guys, good job!" bobby says as he pats eddie on the back, walking over to ready the engine.
"god im hungry!" he blurted out and you just laugh, "what?"
"i just seriously don't understand how you're hungry after all of that," if anything you felt incredibly nauseous.
that's when you felt the sharp hot pain in your side, suddenly finding it hard to stand, it had become apparent that your adrenaline had worn off.
falling to your knees as you cried out in agony. your hands pressed to the hurt area, pulling it back to find your hand soaked in your own blood.
buck worriedly rushed to your side, his hands gently pushed your shoulders back so you laid out flat on the ground. only to find the cause of your discomfort was a large piece of glass was sticking out of your stomach through your jacket.
his first thought was to curse you as you had recklessly climbed through the windshield when you helped the young woman out of the recent car wreck, only for her to be okay and for you to get injured yourself.
he rummaged through his medical bag for something to stop the bleeding, struggling but finally found the right supplies. using his teeth to rip open the packaging before putting pressure around the glass making you groan out in pain.
"i know, i know sweetheart. you're gonna be okay." no words left you just sharp little breaths as you lightly gripped onto bucks arm, trying to give him some sort of reassurance.
he screamed out for the rest of the team, voice breaking as tears streamed down his face. the glass was deep like really deep, all evan could think about was you and if anything had been nicked internally.
bobby and eddie ran over to the two of you, you could hear one of them call for another ambulance as soon as possible. something about a firefighter down, but all you could focus on was how cold you had gotten.
"buck i don't feel s-so goo-d..." for the first time in a long time you were afraid.
"they're on their way, you gotta hold on for me, please!" he begged as he smoothed the hair that had fallen across your face with his spare shaking hand, the other still tightly pressed against your wound.
shakily you lifted your hand to brush his tears, your thumb very slowly caressing his cheek. "you'll be oka.."
the pain was all too much, it was too difficult to keep your eyes open. evan shook your face, "no. no you've got to stay awake! i can't lose you." he shouted, as eddie pulled him away from you. the paramedics put you on the gurney rushing you into the back of the vehicle immediately hooking you up to multiple medications.
bobby and buck shared a look, the captain gave him a swift nod, that's all it took for him to jump into the seat next to you. grabbing a hold of your hand, squeezing it tightly in his own as you made your way to the hospital.
Tumblr media
beep. beep. beep.
your vision was blurred as you opened your eyes, first seeing the heart monitor and the dark sky that peaked out from behind the wonky blinds. the hospital was quiet, a little too quiet for your liking.
you turned to your other side, finding a sleeping evan in what looked like the most uncomfortable chair with a blanket wrapped around his body.
a smile tugged at your lips, he stayed with you. your smile soon fell realising the last thing he saw of you conscious was you nearly bleeding out in his arms.
readjusting yourself was harder than you thought, grunting at the pain, holding your side.
buck woke up startled, jumping up to help you lay back down.
"that was one way to get your attention," you laugh before wincing.
"you've got to be careful, that glass got you good." he says as he straightened out your blanket.
he was trying to not show his worry, you had known him far too long to see through that. "buck, buckley!" you whisper yelled, grabbing his hand, pulling him close to you the best that you could.
everything fell still. his bigger hand intertwined with yours.
"i was so worried," his voice wobbled, it was only loud enough for you to hear.
"i should've stopped you, if i did you wouldn't be here right now."
you squeezed his hand, looking up at him. "you know you couldn't have stopped this, ev."
tugging on his hand to bring him closer to you, shuffling over in your bed, patting the small amount of space next to you. "hop in?" you questioned with a smile.
"there's no way there is enough room on that thing for the both of us!" he exclaimed
"well you better squeeze in then."
and so he did, your bodies pressed up against one another. only after buck extensively checked that he wasn't hurting you or laying on any tubes.
you were now both settled face-to-face, hearing nothing but each others breaths and the beating of your machine. your heart rate elevated when he leaned in closer to run his fingers through your hair.
feeling your face heat up, closing your eyes, embarrassed how a simple action could do that to you, let alone him being able to hear it. the sound of him chuckling worried you. but the feeling of him going back to gently brushing the stray hairs out of your face comforted you.
"i know we deal with close calls every single day, but i... god. all i could think about when they took you away was all the things i hadn't told you yet."
your eyebrows furrowed and eyes reopened, "what things?"
"uh, well things like 'i love you' and also to let you know that 'you stink'," he laughed as you playfully punched him in the arm.
"hey, ow!"
"took you long enough." you exaggeratedly sighed whilst trying to keep a straight face.
"you knew?!" he exclaimed as he sat up still looking for answers.
laughing at his reaction as you held your bandage, "no, you c'mere!"
he scooped you up in his arms, your arms wrapping around his shoulders, laughter now gone. he leaned in close, his lips brushed softly against yours. smiling into the kiss you pulled him closer to you.
you stayed like that for a while, cuddling, kissing and talking. that soon came to a stop when you fell asleep listening to evan's voice, he only realised this mid ramble. pulling the covers up over you, closing his eyes, slowly wrapping his arms around you. not before giving you a kiss on the forehead of course.

You threw your head back gasping as you and Buck finished riding out your highs. “Still got it!” Buck said smugly as you laughed.
“Being cocky never suited you well, Evan.” You wrapped your arms around his neck.
“And screaming my name never sounded more sexy.” He leaned forward taking your lower lip playfully.
“Well I’d thank your well endowed friend, but your ego is already stroked too much.” You smirked.
“It wasn’t just me putting in the work, Y/L/N.” Buck caressed the side of your thighs.
“Well you know what they say, it takes two to tango.” You moved your hair out of the way.
Buck smiled as he let his eyes roam over your face. He knew he was risking his job big time, but getting in a few minutes with you was worth it.
“I missed you.” You stopped trying to adjust your shirt and looked down at him. A smile making itself on your face.“
“Missed you too.” You stroked his hair back. “I hardly see you nowadays.” You softly giggled. “Have you still thought about my offer…” He tugged you closer. “About moving in together. It’d be easier for us because of our jobs. I’d get to come home to you each night.” He offered a laugh.
“Buck-”
“Look I know you’re still working things out with your last job, but I’d want nothing more than to wake up and see you each day.”
You bit your lip contemplating on telling him about your new job, but you knew that the wait would be worth it.
“Can we get dinner later, after your shift?” You leaned down and pecked his cheek softly.
“You still didn’t answer my question.”
“I’m still thinking about it…” You looked away. Evan noticed your hesitance and let it go.
“Why don’t you come by the station. Bobby’s making dinner for us tonight, says he has something important to tell us. I want them to meet you.” Evan’s eyes held hope that you’d say yes. As soon as he saw you smile, he knew he got his answers. “I’ll see you then, okay?”
“What? I didn’t even give you my answer.” You scoffed hitting him playfully.
“Didn’t need to.” He leaned forward. “Your smile.” He pecked your cheek. “Says it all.” He nipped at your sweet spot causing you to squeal in delight.
“Buck.” You gasped.
“I know.” He mumbled against your neck. “I’m stopping.” You leaned back and started adjusting your outfit.
“As much as I’d love a round two. You are still on shift, and my lunch break is over.” You smirked as his shoulders fell. “Oh don’t look so sad babe. Good things come to those who wait.” You pecked his lips once more and made your way out of the firetruck. “Call me when you’re off your shift, okay. I love you.” You smiled up at him from outside the truck.
“I will…and I love you too.” He leaned against the side of the door watching you turn and head towards your car.
-
Later that night, Buck had been waiting by the front entrance waiting for your arrival. His lingering around the firetrucks caught the attention of his team.
“Twenty bucks, he’s ready to get his firehose on.” Hen watched from up on the second floor. Chimney eating a piece of bread as he stood next to Hen.
“Maybe he’s got a girlfriend we don’t know about.” Chimney suggested.
“My money’s on family problems.” Eddie suggested. “Is Maddie coming over Chimney?”
“Of course, she wouldn’t miss Bobby’s cooking.”
“Buckaroo keeps checking his phone.” Hen motioned to him glancing down at his screen. “Think lover boy got stood up?”
“Hey it’s me. This is like my tenth time trying to get a hold of you. Please call me back. I’m worried about you.” Buck frowned. You hadn’t been picking up his calls since his shift was over. “I just need to hear your voice okay.”
“B-Buck.” His head rose as he saw you walk in. He sighed in relief as he saw you enter the station, but it wasn’t until he saw your face in the light that he noticed your busted up lip. Any smile he had went away in an instant. Blood covering the side of your face.
“Y/n…” Worry rose in his chest as you seemed to stare off toward nothing in particular. “Baby, hey.” He walked closer to you.
Your sudden appearance alerted Hen and Chimney as they watched you stumbled towards Buck.
“Y-Y/n!” Buck rushed to prevent you from falling.
“I was mugged. T-They took my bag. I woke up...on the ground.” You could feel the room spinning.
“Woah hey, no no. You have to stay awake now okay.” Buck shook his head as he helped you climb the stairs to take a seat on the couch. The team grew worried as they watched Buck sit you down. Bobby immediately came over, while Hen and Chimney grabbed their med kits. “Buck what happened?”
“S-She said someone took her bag on the way here.” Bobby knelt down to take a look at your head.
“How many fingers am I holding?” You spared Buck a glance asking him silently if he was serious.
“T-Two.” You sighed.
“I think you just have a minor concussion. Chimney, hand me the flashlight…follow my finger sweetie.” Your eyes moved right then left.
“Pupils are responsive. I wouldn’t worry too much about the bump on your head, but my wife Athena can help you make a report tomorrow morning, sound good?” Bobby patted your knee gently.
“Sounds good.” You slightly chuckled.
“So much for surprises huh?” Bobby shook his head.
“Surprises?” Buck grew confused.
“By his confusion, I’m guessing you didn’t tell him.”
“I was working on it.” You cringed.
Bobby eyed you playfully.
“Y/n, what’s he talking about?” Buck took a seat next to you. “You two know each other?”
“R-Remember when I said I got a new job.”
“Yeah…but what does that have to do with you and Bobby knowing each other.”
“She’s are new recruit.”
“Recruit?” He looked up at Bobby.
“I start my first day here tomorrow. I’m gonna be a firefighter just like you Buck.” You caressed the side of his face.
“Are you serious?” Buck’s smile made you smile.
“Yeah. Not only will we get to go home together, but we’d get to work together too. I’m all in if you are.”
“Home?” Buck’s eyes gleamed.
“I think I should start moving my things over to your place.” You laughed at his shocked reaction. “We can start tomorrow. Right now, I’m gonna kiss you.” Buck shook his head and cupped your face bringing you in closer to connect your lips.
“You owe me twenty bucks…” Chimney smiled smugly holding his hand out to Hen who rolled her eyes.

Hi
Could you do a imaging with Buck from 911. I love the opposite attracts idea. Like a secret girlfriend, because she isn’t a fan of being around people. She’s different from all the other girls that buck dated
Thank you
Hope you have a good day:)
A Good Different
You sat on the couch in your baggy sweat pants and oversized shirt. You watched as your boyfriend ran around the house getting ready.
He wasn’t the type of guy you were used to but he made you feel so special and loved. And you knew for a fact you weren’t the type of girl he had been with before. But none of that mattered, you loved each other and nothing could change that.
“Are you sure you don’t want to come?” Buck asked sitting down in front of you on the couch facing you.
“No Buck, you know it’s not my thing, you go have fun” I said, urging him to go.
“Are you sure? I don’t have to go” he replied.
“Evan, baby, look at me, I want you to go have fun, I know how much you love going to hang out with the 118. Go have fun, beside I have a new crime documentary I want to watch” you said, switching the channel to your show.
“Fine, I’ll miss you” he leaned over to kiss you.
“I love you” he said
“I love you too” you sighed, “give me 10 minutes and I’ll be dressed”
You aren’t the type to hang with a bunch of people but if it made Buck happy then you would push your fears away.
10 minutes later you came out in ripped jeans and a faded black concert tee. You threw on your combat boots and grabbed your bag.
“Damn your beautiful” Buck whispered grabbing you in a kiss, “maybe we should stay home”
He chuckled as he kissed you passionately. You smiled under his kisses. When the two of you finally separated you headed for the door.
You applied your makeup in the car adding your dark lipstick to top it off. As Buck pulled into the drive way you started to get nervous. Looking over at your Buck noticed your demeanor.
“Hey you don’t have to do this if you don’t want to, we can go home” he said grabbing your hand.
You gave his a squeeze and shook your head no.
“No, let’s stay, I want to do this for you. These people mean the world to you. And because of that they mean the world to me, it’s time I finally met them” you reply.
Buck gets out and runs to open your door. He leads you to the front door. Buck opens it and goes in.
“Hey everybody we’re here!” He yells
“Finally!”
“About damn time!”
You hear every yell from the main area. As you follow Buck down the stairs of the house, you think he said it belonged to his captain and his wife. Everyone stops and looks at you.
“Woah! Buck who is this?” A dark haired man smiles.
“Chimney!” A woman smacks his arm. You recognize her as Buck’s sister.
“Sorry about him, I’m Maddie, Buck’s sister” Maddie said, coming over to you.
Buck could feel you get nervous. He squeezed your hand.
“Everyone this is Y/N, my girlfriend” he says. He leads you over to a chair. He then introduces everyone. You slowly start to feel at home. He was right the 118 does feel like a family.

‘stay with me’ - Evan Buckley x reader
requested: yes, using the prompt “squeeze my hand if you can hear me”
overview: on a call a building collapses with you inside, leaving your team to dig you out the rubble.
a/n- i got a feeling this gonna be a good one, i fractured my skull and had a brain bleed in august so im going to use this in here because i feel like i can portray it accurately 😭
**
you sat across from your boyfriend buck at the table having dinner with the 118, you had been suprised everyone had dinner together when you joined the 118. you really felt like a family, bobby, hen, chimney, eddie, you and buck.
you looked up at your boyfriend catching a glimpse of his striking blue eyes, you listened to the others talking as you held eyecontact with buck and smiled. you loved that man so damn much. he was seriously a gentleman, easily the most respectful man you’d ever been with even when it came to sex, which suprised you having heard he was a player just before you joined the 118.
it had been a busy day, call after call. now you we’re finally sat eating you felt as if you could inhale the food infront of you, but you ate slowly not wanting to give yourself indigestion. just as you had about your fifth mouthful the buzzer went off indicating you had to get up and go on another call. the whole table groaned in unison having not had a full meal all day and stood up rushing to the trucks.
you sat between buck and your best friend eddie on your way too the scene everyone moaning about the hunger they were feeling.
“we do our jobs well here, be careful and we can go back to the station and eat as much food as our stomachs can hold okay guys” you tried to have a positive outlook on everything even though sometimes being a firefighter it proved difficult. you got a few laughs and people agreeing to your statement as you pulled up on the scene.
you all got out the truck evaluating the scene infront of you, a big fire. a whole building engulfed by flames you couldn’t even see a clear window.
“eddie buck i need you on fire attack. hen chimneys i help with triage. y/l/n go help the 134 with clearing the building” bobby ordered, you, eddie and buck putting your breathing apparatus on.
“be careful” buck gave you a soft smile as you put your mask on, you looked at him putting your helmet on and smiled.
“you too buckley”
you ran inside the building following the unfamiliar team of the 134, you always loved the adrenaline of your job but what you really loved was helping people. you cleared the first floor other members of the 134 carrying civilians down the stairs back to triage, you continued on to the 2 floor doing the same searching every room looking for injured people, the smoke was getting thicker and visiblity was decreasing quickly. you made your way up to the third floor, the last floor you had to clear, you needed to clear the building before you were ordered to clear out.
“y/n! we found someone! taking them down we’ll be back” the two final guys you were with shouted, you could barely hear with the sound of the roaring flames and all your protective gear, you shouted okay back and continued clearing the floor.
“LAFD call out!” you shouted continuously going through the rooms, looking in wardrobes under beds for any frightened children or people. you made your way to another room doing the same as you heard your radio go off.
“all personnel out that building now” you heard an unfamiliar voice shout through the radio, you assumed it was the captain of the 134. you thought you had a few more minutes and continued your search, the smoke was getting a lot thicker now, darker.
“y/l/n! get out of there now! the smokes black! y/l/n respond” you heard bobby shout, you held your radio pressing the button so he could hear you.
“okay i’m heading back down now” you cleared most of the building and you couldn’t risk sending any firefighters in here to help you or risk getting in trouble for going against orders so you made your way back down the stairs, you got to the second floor and continued down the stairs. you could barely see anything infront of you , but when you heard a loud creak you knew something was wrong.
you went to grab your radio as you took the next step but that creak came back louder followed by the feeling of the ground falling from underneath you and the heat of more fire surrounding your body. you felt the excruciating pain of hitting the floor, eyes squeezed shut in pain as you tried to reach for your radio. your head was pulsating you couldn’t think and you felt like you couldn’t move. the pain becoming too much to bare causing you too loose consciousness.
“y/n! report!” bobby shouted through his radio as the whole team saw the blast from inside that shattered a few windows. buck desperately looked at bobby his heart having dropped at the fact you’re not answering the radio anymore, buck now couldn’t think clearly his mind going foggy as he ran towards the building ignoring bobby calling him, eddie quickly running behind him as they entered the building.
“y/n!” the two men shouted looking at the pile of rubble now infront of them, the got closer looking for any sign of you, flames still raging around them.
buck saw the outline of something under a piece of rubble, he moved the slab of cement seeing your helmet. his heart dropped further if that was even possible, the worry laced in his stomach. he had to find you. you had to be okay.
“y/n!” he exclaimed seeing your helmet.
“eddie! help me” buck shouted as he began tearing pieces of cement of the pile throwing them behind him in an attempt to dig you out the rubble. eddie scrambled towards him helping him dig, the strained using as much strength as the could moving the slabs of heavy materials
buck pulled another slab away seeing your foot he huffed trying to move quicker, he tried to get you out of that pile faster then he could move, eddie desperately trying to help get to you faster. once they’d finally uncovered your body, buck rushed to your side your helmet and breathing apparatus having both fallen off you from the fall. buck tried to see if you were awake calling out your name but it came to no avail. he pulled you into his arms lifting you up as gently as he could, he knew you could have a possible spin injury and movement could make that significantly worse but he didn’t have time for a back board.
the two firefighters made their way outside of the building, you in bucks arms. chimney and hen quickly running over with a gurney, buck slowly lowered you onto it scared he’d hurt you and he ripped his mask off looking down at you taking in the blood on your head and the spot covering your face as he watched hen unclip your turnout coat pulling up your shirt and attaching you to the heart monitor.
“pulse is there but thready, possible head and spin injury. could be at risk of some internal bleeding” chimney said to hen as they loaded you into the ambulance, buck was terrified to say the least. he could feel it. the worry it was like he was in pain his heart physically breaking in that moment. there’s a very real possibility you might not even make it to the hospital. buck climbed into the back of the ambulance with chimney as hen got in the front to drive.
chimney began checking your airway was clear and administering some saline and pain medication for when you woke up. buck sat there staring at the woman he loves dying on a back board he held your hand in his tightly.
“come on baby, stay with me okay. squeeze my hand if you can hear me please. please just try” he begged your lifeless body to give him something something that would make him have hope. the beeping on the machine registering your heart rate began getting slower and buck looked up at chimney with pure panic and pain in his eyes. tears threatening to fall.
“hen we’re loosing her!” chim shouted as he began compressions, but buck quickly took over knowing he had to at least try he had to know he tried his best to save you if you didn’t make it. he pressed his hands in the middle of your chest doing compressions.
“come on! not like this y/n!” he begged, not stopping compressions once, he felt a crack in your check he broke one of your ribs, a few stray tears falling from his eyes.
“her rib- i felt it” buck said with watery eyes looking at chimney but not stopping. chim gave him a sad look, but he knew that’s what happens sometimes when you’re doing compression right.
“buck let me take over” buck shook his head he wasn’t going to stop until your heart starts beating again, he looked at the machine praying in his head praying you’d be okay.
“come on damn it! i love you! please not like this!” he cried, hen pulled up outside the hospital getting out the front and opening the doors of the back chimney taking compressions as they got out the ambulance rolling you into the hospital buck close behind tears falling from his eyes. he couldn’t loose you. he wouldn’t let it happen.
“argh!” buck let out a scream more so a sob as he let out his frustration on a wall punching it then groaning as the pain rushed through his hand, he ignored it noticing how eddie and the rest of the 118 were now stood around him he looked at them his eyes that you thought always looked beautiful rimmed red from crying.
“she coded in the ambulance i was doing compressions and broke her rib” buck tried keeping his composure infront of the team but saying it outloud killed him inside. he was going to be sick he could feel the bile rising in this throat.
“she’s gonna be okay buck, she’s in the best hands. have you met that girl? she’s a fighter okay”eddie smiled at his best friend trying his best not to be as down as buck, eddie was distraught the whole team was. they walked to the waiting room chimney and hen now joining them as they sat waiting.
“they got her pulse back, she’s been sent in for emergency surgery” hen explained her voice soft buck didnt move just sat with his head in his hands replaying the last thing he said to you replaying if he couldn’t done something differently. thinking about all the things he wanted to say to you.
buck didnt move from that sear for hours no matter how many people tried to get him to get up. buck just sat there consumed by his thoughts absolutely lost in his own mind.
“it’s been 5 damn hours! when do we get an update” buck exclaimed finally having enough of waiting. bobby sighed looking over at buck, bobby felt guilty for sending you in with the 134.
“it’s a difficult surgery we don’t know how bad the injuries she sustained were” hen said again her voice soft, everyone in the waiting room then fell silent buck had his head in his hands wiping his tears away.
the team sat in silence for another three hours. three hours of hell to buck. he hated waiting especially in this situation. then a doctor walked in.
“family of y/n y/l/n” the doctor said and the whole team stood, buck scrambling to his feet and over to the doctor almost falling over in the process.
“ is she okay? is she alive?” buck questioned, he has the worst headache he felt like he could be sick any second he just needed to know you were alive.
“ the surgery seems to have been a success the majority of internal bleeding is under control, she had multiple broken ribs, broken ankle and obviously a lot of bruising. she also sustained a serious head injury. she has fractured the left side of her skull and sustained a brain bleed. we believe it will heal on its own without intervention but that could change depending on inter cranial pressure so we do plan on keeping her here for a while. she won’t be back to work any time soon” buck didnt know how to feel. relieved you were alive? those injures were serious. very serious. they could end your career.
“shes gonna make it right?” buck needed to check, the doctor nodded and buck felt like a weight had been lifted of his shoulders.
“can i see her?” he asked, he just wanted to see you hold you promise you everything was going to be okay and that he was going to help you through this ever step of the way.
“yeah of course you can. just a warning we are sure what her memory is going to be like when she wakes up” bucks heart dropped to his stomach yet again, you might not remember him. or the life you’d built at the 118. the life you’d planned with buck.
“just take me to her. i’ll be back guys” buck looked back at his team before walking to your room with the doctor. he entered your room seeing you attached to so many different machines making his heart throb at the sight of you. he sat in the chair next to your bed immediately taking your hand in his. he took in the look of you, weak lifeless and the tears began falling down his cheeks.
buck stays like that not letting go of your hand once for another two hours which to him felt like an eternity, in that time he’s had such a good cry his eyes were puffy and he felt like he had no tears left.
he felt your hand twitch his eyes instantly going up to yours to see if they were open, he saw your eyes squeeze tightly together before the fluttered open. you looked around the room your vision blurry as you caught sight of a man infront of you. you couldn’t make out any distinctive features you just looked at him unable to figure out who he was.
buck watched as you looked at him blankly, you’d never looked at him like that with zero emotions. he felt like you just looked through him. like it wasn’t him like he wasn’t even there. he stayed silent for a moment seeing if you would recognise him but you didn’t.
“y/n.. it’s evan buckley.. it’s me it’s buck. please tell me you remember” he gave your hand a reassuring squeeze as more tears seemed to pool in his eyes he didn’t even think that was possible. he felt like the whole world had stopped moving. obviously he would still help you but how was he supposed to be around you if you didn’t even know he was. his heart was broken.
“buck i n-need something for the pain.. ” you mumbled through gritted teeth the pain pulsing through your head. he couldn’t tell if that was you remembering him. he let go of your hand scrambling out the room to get a doctor.
the doctor had administered you something for the pain and asked you a few questions you looked over at buck with a confused look on your face taking in the exhaustion and pain that laced his features, his blue eyes now puffy and red.
“buck of course i remember you” you said, he let out a breath and reached for your hand you notices the relief on his face, as he kissed your hand.
“but i’m what happened last thing i remember was eating dinner at the station” you asked trying to piece back together what got you in this situation.
“we went on a call, you were with the 134 on your way out the stairs collapsed.. me and eddie had to dig you out.. you’ve had surgery and you’ve got a brain bleed.. you coded in the ambulance” telling the story again made him relive it again.
“come here” buck had noticed the pure exhaustion in your weak voice and squeezed your hand as you tried to carefully budge over so buck could lay in the bed with you.
“ y/n your ribs are broken i’m not risking hurting you” you shook your head and patted the bed next to you wanting him to be with you.
“please buck” he sighed and gently sat next to you. you winced as you tried to cuddle into him buck immediately stopped you.
“careful please..” you sighed and just leaned into him as you reached to hold his hand as you leaned against him trying to get as close to him as possible. you laid like that for a while just enjoying his warmth you just wanted to go home and stay in his arms forever. you laid in silence for a while before buck spoke up.
“i broke one of your ribs doing compressions..” he looked down at you the pain in his voice more then noticeable.
“buck you saved my life.” you reasoned knowing the guilt was probably eating him inside.
“i hurt you.” you shook your head looking up at him placing your hand on his chest, you reached up and kissed him despite the pain you were in.
“you saved my life buck..” you notice his eyes watering again as he looked down at you, you’d traumatised him. having to do compressions on his own girlfriend couldnt have been easy.
“ i love you so much y/n. today i don’t even know i’ve never felt like this before.. you mean the absolute world to me. i love you more then anyone else i’ve ever been with” he explained tears in his eyes, you listened to his world, you felt the same. you loved buck to pieces.
“i love you too buck” you gave a soft reassuring smile in hopes to make him feel better, he admired you, he always thought you look beautiful even now right after surgery.
“ move in with me” buck blurted looking down at you, you looked up at him in shock.
“you stay at mine almost every night anyway, the next few months you’re gonna need someone to help you. i don’t want to spend any more time apart tomorrow isn’t promised. i want to spend as much time with you as i can” his worlds always made your heart swell. you were a lucky woman.
“i’ll move in with you evan” you smiled and kissed him again, he had the classic big buckley smile etched onto his face which always made you happy. it was going to be a long road to recovery but you were glad buck would be there through it.

Prompt - ‘Now this is an open-shut case I guess I should've known from the look on your face.’
Tumblr media
Whenever Buck was around things were just easier. He made everything around him lighter, always there with a warm smile and would do anything for anyone. It hadn’t taken long for the two of you to become friends, to be inseparably joined at the hip. It wasn’t just that you worked well together, able to read each other without needing words, you were close once the shift ended, whereas most people who spent as much time as you did with your colleagues would part ways, you and Buck left together and spent hours at each other's side.
You knew that your feelings for Buck went deeper than just friendship, it was obvious to anybody looking at the pair of you that you were half way in love with the man. It was also painfully obvious that Buck was right there with you but you couldn’t see it, not even when the others told you about the way Buck looked at you, not even when they insisted that the two of you would be perfect together.
When you looked at Buck you couldn't see how he felt, sure he was all soft smiles and gentle touches but he was the same with all his friends. You couldn’t guess from the look on his face that he could want more than what you had.
You often found yourself getting lost around Buck, gazing at him whilst he spoke as you tried to see what the others claimed was obvious but you never could. Occasionally you thought something could have been there, some longing glance or adoring look but you always shook your head, convincing yourself that you were just seeing what you wanted to see.
You were content with what you had though, you had to be otherwise it would drive you crazy, you had to be because if you weren’t it meant you’d mess up what you already had with Buck and you couldn’t do that. You’d rather silently pine whilst dreaming about what it would be like to love Buck and be loved back than not have him around at all.
It drove the others crazy that neither of you could see what could be, how easy it would be for the two of you to have one little conversation that would lead to so much happiness. They'd watched you and Buck from day one, seen the way your eyes were immediately drawn to him as Bobby introduced you to the team, saw the way Buck jumped at every opportunity to show you around and helped you with the copious amounts of chores given to you as a probie.
The two of you were perfect for each other, you could go from bantering and teasing into deep and meaning conversations, you were capable of getting Buck to let down his walls, him telling you things he had never shared with anyone before, likewise Buck was probably the person on the planet who knew you best. Whilst it was tempting to shake the two of you by the shoulders until you saw sense or lock you in a room until things were resolved everybody knew that you and Buck had to do this alone, with or without their intervention it was pretty much guaranteed that you two would get together.
It wasn’t just in the way you and Buck could flip between serious and playful when the situation called for it. It was the way you would take one look at Buck, needing only a second to scan his features, before you disobeyed Bobby’s direct orders and followed Buck into a burning building, trusting his judgement and following where he went without a second thought, knowing you’d follow him wherever he went for as long as he’d have you whether it was into his car on the way home or into the flames. It was the way he wrapped his arm around you so casually drawing you closer to him, the way his hand squeezed yours so softly in the truck whenever he could see a call had affected you. It was the way you sat on the counter as you watched him dance around as he spent hours cooking a meal just for the two of you. It was the little moments that would be so meaningless to others that you held close, that made you fall further and further for Buck.
There were so many times you’d just wanted to beg him to show you he felt the same, beg him to take your hand and never let go. You were content with what you had but you could selfishly want more too.
Despite the fact that both of you wanted so badly, nothing happened between the two of you for years, long painful years filled with the most beautiful memories. By this point you knew it was love, there wasn’t another word for the rush of emotions you still felt whenever Buck smiled at you, whenever you watched him scoop Christopher up to greet him, when you watched him punch at the bags in the gym, when he held you in his arms, it was love.
The others liked to joke that it would take a miracle for you and Buck to finally see that you had practically been dating for all this time. It seemed the universe agreed with the sentiment of wanting you and Buck together but instead of a miracle it gave you a tragedy instead.
It was a call that sounded bad from the get-go and by the time you rolled up to the scene the fire was out of control, already engulfing the two buildings to the side of it. If it was bad outside it was even worse inside. Obviously you were used to feeling the heat of the flames way too close for comfort, it was the job after all, but something about this one felt different, the flames engulfed everything around them, the ceiling was collapsing in on each floor, cutting off exits. Smoke was thick in the air as you made your way through the building, Buck ahead of you as he cleared the way before helping you through.
In the distance a floor or two up you could hear a child crying hysterically, choking on tears and smoke but at least they were still breathing. You and Buck didn’t know how much time you had but it wasn’t long so the two of you tried to work your way upwards, the stairs not an option anymore. You made it up one floor, the sweat pouring off both of you when the radios cracked to life.
“118, evacuate the building.” Bobby’s voice called through and Buck’s head whipped around to look at you, his eyes shifting from yours to the ceiling, the child’s cries closer now. “I repeat evacuate the building, it’s been declared too unstable, it’s going to crumble any moment.”
You and Buck stayed silent, gazes locked on each other for a few seconds as the rest of the team confirmed they were moving out.
“Buck, Y/N, come in.” Bobby called and Buck shook his head.
“What do you want to do?” You asked him, knowing already what his answer would be. Neither of you would be able to leave without at least trying.
“I’m not leaving.” Buck told you and you nodded that was all you needed and you gestured for him to carry on. “Y/N/N, you gotta leave.”
“Not happening, Buck. Hurry, we don't have long.” You told him, seeing the wide eyed soft look he was giving you behind his helmet and any other time you’d be lost in that expression, thinking it over and over but right now wasn’t the time.
“Take my hand.” Buck said as he struggled over the rubble, holding a hand out to help you and you slid your hand into his palm, even with the heavy uniform you couldn’t help but savour the moment.
Bobby’s voice called through the radio again and as you and Buck headed towards the crying child you listened to Buck arguing with him, refusing to leave before turning the radio off completely.
“If we get out of here alive Bobby’s gonna kill you for that.” You told him and couldn't help the pull of your lips as he laughed before pulling himself up another floor, using the rubble to help him.
“Yeah probably but what else is new?” He grinned, holding his hand out again for you and you let him help you pull you up.
The whole building seemed to shake and Buck grabbed onto your arms, pulling you closer as you waited for something to happen, neither of you breathing until a few seconds passed and the building just about stayed standing.
The sound of the child’s screeching cries snapped you back into action, both of your heads turning right in the direction before Buck let go of you with a nod. You nodded back and followed after him with careful steps, keeping your eyes on Buck and desperately trying to focus on him and not the building that was minutes away from collapsing.
“I got her!” Buck called as he climbed through the rubble and picked the child up, she couldn’t have been more than four, her face red and tear stained as more flooded down her cheeks. “C’mere kid, I gotcha.”
Buck picked the girl up and she went willingly, clinging to Buck’s neck as he walked back over to the pile of rubble blocking the room.
“Hey, I’m gonna pass you to my friend, is that alright? She’s real nice and she’ll take care of you.” Buck murmured to the girl and you couldn’t help but smile as he pried her fingers off him and gently passed her through the gap he had made. “That’s it, you got her.”
Just as you took the girl from him the building gave another violent shake that had you and Buck freezing again, the girl letting out a cry as she buried her head against your coat. This shake was worse than the one earlier and lasted longer and you felt sick to your stomach as you kept your eyes on Buck. Buck went to say something, you could see his mouth opening before he frowned and looked up just as the building shook again and before you could even register what was happening Buck had disappeared from view and where he had stood was now filled with rubble.
You were frozen to the spot for a few seconds before you let out a shuddering breath, head shaking as tears filled your eyes.
“Buck!” You yelled, knowing it was wrong but you placed the girl against the opposite wall and began trying to dig your way through the rubble, desperately calling Buck’s name as you struggled against the heavy pieces of ceiling.
“Buck please, come on!” You sobbed before snatching your radio from your coat and calling for Bobby.
“Y/N, what happened? The two of you need to get out of there now!” Bobby ordered but you shook your head, tears falling down your cheeks as you struggled to breath. “Y/N!”
“Bobby,” You choked out, “Bobby I’ve got a kid here but I can’t, I can’t leave him, Bobby, please.”
You would be surprised if Bobby could make out your words, your breath coming out in quick panicked gasps and you were choking on tears as you let the radio go to keep trying to dig through the rubble, making no progress, every time you moved one piece three more seemed to fill its place.
The radio was silent for a few moments before Bobby’s voice came through again.
“Stay where you are, I'm coming in.” Bobby told you and before the radio cut off you could hear somebody protesting but you didn’t care. Bobby would come in and get the girl and you knew you weren’t leaving without Buck.
The flames were closing in and you knew you didn’t have long left. From below you could hear footsteps and you looked towards the room Buck was trapped in and the flames quickly creeping towards the opening you’d used to get onto this floor.
You picked the girl up again and ran over to the opening, already seeing Bobby, Chimney and Eddie coming towards you, putting out as many of the flames as they could. You were already lowering the girl down and Chimney was quick to grab her but you didn’t stick around after that, you were instantly back at the pile of rubble, gloved hands desperately trying to free Buck.
“Buck, Buck please, please I need you. I can’t lose you, not you.” You sobbed out, pleading with anyone who would listen to just let Buck be ok. There was so much left unsaid between the two of you and you promised yourself you’d tell him everything, you’d tell him you loved him, tell him you didn’t ever want to picture your life without him at your side, you tell him everything if you got the chance to.
You hadn’t even heard Bobby and Eddie join you until you saw their hands dragging rubble away too. The building gave another shake but this time you didn’t freeze, you kept digging, kept pleading, kept sobbing. You needed to get Buck out.
Finally, finally, you managed to get into the room. The ceiling had caved in, crashing down into the room and bringing furniture from upstairs through with it. It was bad but thankfully not bad enough that you couldn’t move around the room. Your eyes found Buck immediately, trapped underneath a piece of rubble, a cut on his head was bleeding and his eyes were closed.
Between the three of you, you managed to free Buck from the rubble, you couldn’t see if he was more injured than just the head wound with the coat covering him but you prayed that he was fine, he had to be because you didn’t know what you’d do if he wasn’t.
The building was shaking now, the foundation ready to crumble and Bobby and Eddie wasted no time in lifting Buck between them and quickly but carefully carried him from the building. Just as Buck was being loaded into the ambulance you heard a rumble and glanced behind you just in time to see the building cave in on itself, the two next to it following in suit.
You didn’t care though, just climbed into the ambulance next to Buck and sat still as you watched the paramedics assess him. Silent tears made their way down your face but you couldn’t stop the choked sob that escaped you when they took his coat off and saw a blood soaked shirt underneath.
The paramedic cut the shirt off to reveal a wound that was still bleeding, the blood seemingly just pouring out. It looked like a piece of the rubble or something else that had fallen through when the ceiling had managed to practically slice him deeply from his stomach across to just above his hip.
“Is he gonna be ok?” You asked and the paramedic shot you a look before getting to work on cleaning and trying to stop the bleeding.
It was still bleeding when you got to the hospital.
They rushed him into surgery as soon as he was out of the ambulance and you followed him into the hospital, told to wait in the waiting room. You didn’t know what you were supposed to do so you did nothing, you stood where they had left you, people moving around you like you were nothing more than a ghost, only able to stand and stare at the doors Buck had been taken behind.
You had no idea how long you stood there, still as a statue with tears falling down your face, but eventually there was a hand on your shoulder. You still didn’t move but you at least registered when Bobby moved to stand in front of you, his own eyes teary but ever the leader he didn’t let them fall, not whilst his team needed him.
“Come on, there’s a room for us to wait in.” Bobby told you softly but you barely heard the words, they sounded like you were underwater, drowning in fear and panic and you could do nothing but wait and see if you’d sink or swim.
Bobby gently took your hand in his and you let him lead you through the halls of the hospital, paying no attention to your surroundings. The rest of the team were already in the room, looking up when you entered but you barely even saw them. Bobby just shook his head and led you to one of the seats, softly pushing you into it before taking the seat next to you.
You didn’t know how long you had sat there, staring ahead but not seeing anything, your thoughts racing, picturing a million and one different scenarios. There were so many things you wanted to say, needed to say. If something happened to Buck, if the worst case scenario happened and he didn’t know you loved him, it would haunt you for the rest of your life.
Bobby’s hand periodically squeezing yours in a gentle but firm grip was the only thing keeping you grounded to reality. Hours passed by without you noticing, no doctors had entered the private waiting room the team had been given. No news was good news though you supposed, it at least meant that Buck was still alive and that was all you could ask for right now.
Eventually though somebody did interrupt the silence, a tired looking doctor entered the room and everyone was immediately on their feet, not daring to breathe as they waited to hear the verdict.
“Mr Buckley made it through the surgery successfully,” the doctor told you all and there was a collective sigh of relief throughout the room, your hand squeezing Bobby’s tightly. “We were able to stop the bleeding and stitch up the wound on his stomach.”
“So he’s going to be ok?” Eddie asked and you felt your heart stop as the doctor was silent for a beat too long. “He’s gonna be ok, right?”
“The wound on the stomach won’t be an issue. It’s the head wound we’re worried about. After taking scans we can see swelling but won’t be able to determine how serious it is until Mr Buckley wakes up.” The doctor said and you felt a fresh wave of tears fill your eyes.
“And when will he wake up?” Bobby asked, glancing at you out of the corner of his eye  before focusing on the man.
“I can’t say for sure, it could be a matter of hours or it could be days.” The doctor informed you honestly and you took a shaky breath, speaking for the first time in hours.
“Can we see him?” You asked, voice cracking on the words and you felt Bobby’s thumb brush along your skin comfortingly.
“I’m afraid only one of you will be allowed in the room with him and visiting hours will be over in an hour.” The doctor said before giving the group directions to Buck’s room and excusing himself.
“Go on then, Y/N/N.” Eddie said, causing you to look over at him with a frown but before you could say anything he spoke again. “He’d want it to be you.”
You were silent for a few moments, looking around at the rest of the team who smiled and nodded at you and you suddenly felt a huge burst of love for these people who had become your family. When you turned to Bobby he smiled softly down at you before giving your hand one last squeeze and letting go.
“Thank you.” You managed to choke out before leaving the room and following the doctor's directions.
You had to pause outside of his room before you could enter, looking in through the window at Buck in the bed. He looked peaceful, he didn't look like he was in pain, paler than he should have been and a line of stitches trailing up into his hairline from his forehead.
You took another shaky breath before forcing your feet forward and into the room, sitting down on the edge of the only chair placed next to the bed and taking Buck’s hand in yours carefully.
“I don’t know if you can even hear me,” You said after a long beat of silence where you could only run your eyes across his features. “But if you can, I really need you to wake up, Buck, because I can’t lose you. You’re the best thing in my life and the thought of you not being here with me-”
You cut yourself of with a choked sob, leaning forward until your forehead rested against your joined hands. For so long it had been you and Buck, inseparable, the closest of friends, never seeing one without the other. Of course in your line of work it was always a possibility that something would happen but you tried to ignore it, until moments like this, until you couldn’t anymore. You knew full well you were all in with Buck, in it until the end, just like how you knew that if you hadn’t been able to get him out of that building before then you wouldn’t have left either.
“You have to come back to me because there’s so much I need to tell you, so much I should have already said but I couldn’t but we don’t know what’s gonna happen and we should take every chance we can to be happy, right? And it’s you Buck, it’s always been you who makes me happy. It’s always been you.” You told him, knowing he couldn’t hear you but still it felt good to say it out loud. “Because I love you, Buck. I knew from the moment I met you that one day it would be love.”
You didn’t say more than that, you couldn’t bring yourself to speak through the tears and quiet sobs. Time seemed to pass too quickly because before you knew it a nurse was knocking on the door, giving you a sympathetic smile as she told you visiting hours were over.
You nodded at her and stood up, wiping at your cheeks and ignoring the way more tears replaced them and instead leaned down to place a kiss to Buck’s cheek, letting yourself linger there for a few seconds before pulling away with a whispered goodbye. Once you left the room you only managed to get to the end of the hallway before your knees gave out and sobs wracked your body.
You never hit the floor though, strong arms wrapped around you and pulled you into a chest, fingers carding through your hair. You couldn’t make out what the voice was saying but you could feel the rumbles. You couldn’t see through the tears but that didn't matter, the arms felt safe and your hand came up to clutch at a shirt.
You didn’t remember moving but you felt yourself being sat down on a chair and brought deeper into a pair of arms. You couldn’t say how long you sat like that for before the sobs turned into shuddering breaths and the world started to come back to you.
“There you go, that’s it, just breathe.” The voice was saying and you pushed away from the chest when you recognised it as Bobby’s voice. “You’re ok, take it easy.”
“What are you still doing here?” You managed to choke out, voice hoarse from how much crying you’d done today.
“I wasn’t going to leave you alone. I already called Athena and told her I’d be staying with you tonight, you wouldn’t mind the company would you?” Bobby asked and again you felt so much love fill you because you had no doubt that if it wasn’t Bobby insisting on being her for you it would be one of the others.
“Thank you.” You told him sincerely, nodding your head whilst desperately trying to choke back more tears. “Seriously Bobby, thank you.”
“It’s what families are for.” Bobby shrugged like it was no big deal but both of you knew how meaningful it was, this team who had become a family, who loved each other so deeply meant everything.
Since you’d rode in the ambulance and Bobby had followed behind in the truck, Bobby ordered the two of you an Uber, waiting outside in the cool air for it to arrive. It wasn’t long before you were home, taking a shower because the smell of smoke and fire clung to your skin.
It felt wrong to be here when Buck was still at the hospital, he should be here with you, but there was nothing more you could do tonight. Tomorrow you’d be back at his side bright and early until you were forced to leave again but for right now you let Bobby gently push you onto the couch and press a warm mug into your hands.
It went on like that for days, you were at the hospital every day and Bobby sorted the time off for you back at the station. You didn’t think you could pull yourself back to work if you tried, the thought of doing the job without Buck at your side was unthinkable.
Bobby had taken to picking you up every night from the hospital, it was an unspoken arrangement, you just left Buck’s room and the man was always there waiting for you. Each night he took you to his and Athena’s, who welcomed you with open arms and a warm meal that they both made sure you ate, knowing full well you weren't eating at the hospital.
It was on the fifth day that things changed, two days after hearing doctors murmur about their concerns of Buck not waking up yet, five days of sitting at Buck’s side for hours on end, talking away about anything and everything just to fill the silence.
On the fifth day you entered Buck’s room the minute the hospital allowed visitors and took up your regular seat, taking his hand in yours before placing a soft kiss to the back of his. It was how you started every morning visit. The first few hours nothing happened and then just after twelve you heard a groan fall from Buck’s lips, your head snapping up at the noise.
You stared at Buck, wide eyed and not daring to blink as if it would ruin any chance of him waking up. It took a while but you watched as Buck’s face scrunched up before he swallowed heavily, tilting his head to the side and shifting to get comfortable before he finally managed to force his eyes open.
When he saw you you were already crying, silent tears trailing down your cheeks as you smiled at him in relief.
“What happened?” Buck managed to slur out before he started coughing with how dry his throat felt and you wasted no time pouring water into a cup and holding it to Buck’s lips. “Are you ok?”
You couldn’t help but laugh softly at the question, here Buck was finally waking up after five days of recovering, stitches on his head and stomach after being crushed by rubble and he was asking if you were ok.
God, you loved him.
“Are you ok?” You asked instead, watching as his lips twitched upwards. “Are you in pain? Should I get a doctor? I should definitely get a doctor.”
You went to stand but Buck stopped you, tightening his grip on your hand and keeping you in place. You turned back to face him and that’s when you saw it. It was the look, the one the others kept telling you about, the one with soft eyes filled with love and adoration, the one with a smile that to most people wouldn’t seem particularly special but if you knew what you were looking for you could see it was so important. It was the look and you were finally seeing it, you couldn’t convince yourself you were looking into it too much, couldn’t convince yourself your mind was playing tricks on you because it was right in front of you and it was beautiful.
“Don’t go.” Buck murmured, his voice hoarse and not able to go above a whisper but you heard the plea clearly anyway. “Just…just stay with me.”
“Nowhere else I’d rather be.” You told him honestly, squeezing his hand and not able to look away from his face.
Eventually you were able to snap yourself out of trance you regularly seemed to get lost in around Buck, long enough so that you could fill him in on what had happened and how long he’d be out of it. As you spoke Buck never lost that soft look, never once let his eyes wander away from you and it took all your strength to bite your tongue and not tell Buck how you felt.
Until you realised that you didn’t have to do that anymore. You had promised yourself you’d tell Buck and maybe half an hour after he’d woken up from a five day slumber wasn’t the best time but suddenly you felt the overwhelming urge to do it, feeling like you couldn’t wait another day.
“What’s wrong?” Buck asked, his attention solely on you so he noticed the shift in your features, the slight crease in between your eyebrows, the way your head tilted as you looked at him but your mind was clearly somewhere else.
“I thought you were gonna die.” You forced out around the sudden lump in your throat, frown deepening because those weren’t the words you meant to say. “I thought you were gonna die and I was so scared. Once that rubble came down so did so many regrets, so many things I wanted to tell you but I was too scared to but then you were gone and I needed you to know them because you couldn’t die without knowing.”
“Knowing what?” Buck asked softly, already guessing where this was going, already feeling warmth spreading through his chest at the chance that you felt the same way he had, that he hadn’t been pining alone.
“Without knowing that seeing you is the highlight of my day, without knowing that any day I let pass without talking to you, it just isn’t a good day. Without knowing how deeply I care about you, without knowing that I trust you more than anyone, that I’d follow you wherever you went. You were lying here and I didn’t know if you were going to wake up and the one thing above everything that I needed you to know is that I am so in love with you.” You told him, not taking your eyes off him and watching his face soften even more if it were possible, watching as his eyes watered slightly but he managed to keep any tears from falling.
“Y/N,” he breathed out, unable to say anything for a moment but you weren’t worried, you didn’t take it as a bad sign, you couldn’t, not now that you’d seen that look.
You had to curse yourself slightly because how had you missed that look, it had been years of Buck looking at you like that and you’d missed it. If you had seen that look so long ago any questions regarding Buck’s feelings for you would have been an open-shut case, you would have known from the look on his face that he wanted you as much as you wanted him.
“I’ve wanted to hear that for so long, wanted to tell you that for so long because it’s true, I love you more than I thought I could love anyone. For so long I didn’t think I was capable of loving somebody like I love you, I thought I was too messed up from everything. But then I met you and, Y/N/N I knew from the moment I met you that you were going to be so important. I should have told you years ago but I couldn’t see how somebody like you could feel the same way. But I love you, Y/N, I love you so, so much.” Buck told you, the two of you smiling at each other with matching grins, so happy it was almost too much but you both basked in the feeling.
And everyone was right, nothing changed when the two of you started dating. You came into work together and left together, you stayed over at each other's places until you had found yourself all but moved into Buck’s place already and it just became second nature to call his place home. The only difference was now there were no secret feelings, no wishful, longing glances. Now you could say that’s my man and Buck could take your hand in his, now you kissed Buck whenever you wanted just because you could and neither of you took a day together for granted, not when you had spent so many years pining where you could have been together so now you made sure to savour each day.

Part 2 Here
Third Person POV
It’s Monday and the LAFD 118 team has been called to a two story house fire and said house is beginning to collapse. Buck and Eddie jog away from it toward the engine to assist in putting out the rest of the fire, having rescued the residents and left them with Hen and Chim. As they approach Bobby, his gaze is cast beind them, “Where is (Y/N)?” he asks looking back to Buck and Eddie. The two look behind them and then back at each other before Buck takes off sprinting back toward the house even as the roof caves.
Bobby makes eye contact with Eddie who is already backing away, “Way ahead of you.” Eddie swiftly catches up with Buck as they both dodge a falling rafter.
“(Y/N)!” Buck yells, fear evident in his voice. Together the two yell for their teammate as they carefully pick through the flames around them. After what feels like ages, but is only a couple of minutes, Eddie slaps his friend on the shoulder. Pulling him to a stop, he motions for Buck to stop yelling. Barely audible over the flames, a chorus of meows is heard.
The two look to each other once again. “Don’t tell me she went back for cats,” Eddie mumbles, shocked.
Buck sighs and begins moving toward the sound, “This is (Y/N) we’re talking about. Of course she did.”
Finally, they find (Y/N) lying in the corner of whats supposed to be the kitchen. A rafter seems to have swept her off of her feet and is now lying across her ribcage. The area is mostly clear of flames and lying just to the side of (Y/N), as if she had dropped it when she was crushed, is an upturned nylon basket which is the source of the meows. “Help me with this rafter,” Buck urges as he moves towards (Y/N). Together the two lift the rafter off of her and toss it aside. Buck bends down and carefully lifts (Y/N) into his arms and begins heading for an exit. Eddie retrieves the basket of cats and follows.
By now, the flames have been subdued and only small flickers are seen scattered across the now demolished building. Buck shakes (Y/N) softly and she begins to wake up. She looks up at him in slight confusion before looking around her. “Wait, wait,” she mumbles, “Put me down, please.” Unwillingly, Buck does so to avoid an elbow or knee to his ribs.
(Y/N)’s POV
I stop Eddie as he catches up to us and retrieve the basket of cats from him. I look inside to make sure all three kittens and their mother are accounted for and at least breathing before I turn back around to find their owner. I spot the little girl with Hen and her parents and beline toward them. My legs attempt to give out from under me as my ribs and head throb in pain but I need to do this. I pull my helmet off, tossing it to the ground and stop in front of the little girl. Holding out the basket to her, I offer a small smile. “Oh! Thank you so much! You shouldn’t have!” her mother gasps as she realizes what is inside the soot covered basket.
“I don’t know what I would do if I lost one of my fur babies. I wanted to,” I lean closer to the mother as the little girl takes the basket, exploding with joy. “For her sake,” I whisper to the mother and father.
Mom pulls me into a tight hug, which makes my ribs riot but I ignore them. She pulls away and places her palm against my cheek, “Thank you so much, honey. You just made this whole ordeal a little better for her.”
I offer another smile, “Don’t thank me yet. They’ll need a vet visit asap and,” I lower my voice, “I tried to keep them covered as much as possible with my coat but they got a good bit of smoke exposure. They seem okay now but I’m not sure about the long term affects,” I pause, “If you catch my drift.”
The father nods, “We understand but regardless, thank you.”
I smile to both of them before kneeling in front of the little girl who has busied herself with brushing the soot off the still meowing cat and kittens, “You take real good care of them okay?” She nods eagerly as she sets the basket aside and hops down from the gurney. She wraps her small arms around my neck in a tight hug and mumbles a thank you into my shoulder. “You are very welcome, Sweetie.”
The little girl lets go and returns to her basket of fluff so I stand and turn around to see Buck waiting a few feet away. He does not look happy and I know I’ll get an earful later. I make my way toward him, and looking back at the little girl with her basket of cats I decide, “It was worth it,” I state firmly to Buck as he meets me and wraps his arms around my shoulders to guide me to the other side of the firetruck out of sight of the family. As soon as we round the corner of the truck, my legs give and Buck has to catch me to keep me from faceplanting the pavement.
He picks me up once more before setting me on the side of the truck. He brushes my hair out of my face, “You’re going to give me an aneurysm one of these days.” Bobby, Hen, and Eddie join us before I can muster up a response. By now my ribs feel like their about to collapse inwards and my head is trying to explode. A bout of diziness nearly takes me down again but I lean into Buck who has collected a handful of alcohol prep pads to clean the soot off my face and taken a seat beside me.
“What’s the damage?” Bobby asks as I do my best to follow the penlight Hen is moving back and forth in my eyes.
“Definitely a concussion,” she respondes, “Let’s see those ribs.” I suppose Eddie must’ve reported back to them alerting them to my injuries plus he’s pulling an oxygen mask over my face.
Bobby nods and holds up my helmet, “Well, that’s not surprising.” I now notice the crack across the visor and cringe. I struggle with my turn out for a moment before Buck slaps my hands away and helps me out of it. I lift my shirt to reveal already bruising ribs.
Hen gently feels across my ribs and presses a stethescope over my lungs. I take a deep breath in as Hen speaks again, “I don’t think they’re broken but definitely heavily bruised.” She pulls the stethescope away and places it back in her kit before taking a step back to look at me, “I know it’ll be your biggest nightmare but you’re gonna have to take it real easy for the next few weeks.”
Buck hooks a finger under my chin and pulls me to face him as I groan. “I know. I know. You’ll live. Now let me get the rest of this mess off so we can bandage these cuts.” Eddie and Bobby depart as I attempt to sit still for Buck but I keep fidgeting and adjusting in an effort to ease the pain in my ribs.
Hen laughs but states seriously, “You’re gonna need a CT scan to check for brain bleeds and some X-rays to make sure your ribs aren’t broken and to check for skull fractures.”
“I know,” I mumble as she passes Buck some band-aids before closing her kit and returning to the other side of the truck. Buck finishes cleaning my face and begins fighting with the wrapper of a band-aid. His hands are shaking so bad he almost drops it several times before I finally wrap my hands around his and look up at him, “Just breathe, Buck. I’m alive,” I pause, “Very banged up but alive.”
His lips press into a thin line and he breaks eye contact to look down at our hands. He lets me have the band-aids so I open one of them before handing it to him for application. As he places it right below my hair line, eyes trained on it and not looking at mine, he mutters something under his breath. I wait for him to place the band-aid and smooth it down before tilting my head, confusion plain to see on my face. He sighs heavily, “I said you scared the shit out of me.” Finally making eye contact with me again he adds, “I can’t lose you. You mean too damn much to me.”
I wrap him in a hug, which he promptly returns, and mumble, “I’m sorry.” He buries his face in my neck as I bury mine in his chest and we stay that way for a long moment before finally returning to the task at hand. I open another band-aid and hand it over for him to place on my cheek below the other. “I just figure that the house burning down is pretty shitty but to lose the cats too would be even worse. I know I would’ve been devasted to lose mine,” I explain and he nods in understanding. Once he’s satisfied with my treatment, we both make our way to join the others, Buck keeping an arm at my back in case I start to collapse again.
Soon, we all depart and return to the Fire House. I’m carted off to the ER to get a CT scan and X-rays as doc ordered. As expected the results confirm a concussion but no brain bleeds, skull fractures, or broken ribs.
Finally the weekend is here and I am spending my Saturday night at Maddie and Chim’s house with Maddie, Athena, Hen, and Karen. By now my concussion is gone for the most part but my ribs are still pretty sore. My fellow ladies are all taking it easy, having a beer or glass of wine. I on the other hand have managed to get sloshed even though they have repeatedly warned me to slow down. Who knows what trouble Buck and Eddie are getting into tonight but Chim is at Bobby and Athena’s house with Jee-Yun for cooking lessons.
I’m currently sprawled out on my back in Maddie’s living room floor babbling on and on. Most of it is drunken non-sense but soon I find myself on a train of thought that I’m not quite sure I should be voicing aloud but drunk me has lost all fucks to give. As soon as the first sentence stumbles out of my mouth, “You know who I really really like?” the ladies are all on the edges of their seats. Hen has even pulled out her phone and started recording but I couldn’t care less. I need to get this off my chest and it’s about fucking time. I might as well carry on while I have the guts. “Buck,” I pause trying but failing to collect my thoughts and decide to simply ramble on as the room wobbles, “He’s just so fucking sweet. He’s got the largest and shiniest heart of gold I’ve ever seen. He’s hilarious as fuck... And adorable... And fine as hell... He makes me feel safe... and happy... and giddy.”
I sit up abruptly and wobble slightly before looking at the nearest person, who just happens to be Maddie, “And I don’t know what the hell the whole knee nudge thing is that he does,” I point to Hen, “You know what I’m talking about. That thing he does whenever he’s sitting beside me where he just like nudges my knee with his,” The room starts to spin so I lay back down and look up at the ceiling, “I-I don’t know what that is. I don’t know if he does it as a funny funny ha ha. Or if he does it to aggravate me. Which it did at first because I couldn’t figure out why he was doing it but I finally gave up and just started nudging back. But anyway, I don’t know why he does it but I hope he never stops... It always reminds me that he’s right there... It reminds me that I’m not alone, that someone will have my back if I’m about to do stupid shit or be there if I need a shoulder to lean on. It makes me feel safe.” I come to a halt and shuffle through the thoughts in my head.
“And another fucking thing. His fucking biceps, dude. They’re damn near as big as my head. Sometimes I just wanna,” I click my teeth together, “bite them. Actually, next time he hits me with the ‘Bite me, (Y/L/N)’... I’ma do it.” I stop to catch my breath and a sudden realization hits me, “I think I fucked up,” I slur out.
“Yeah, honey, you’re pretty wasted,” Athen says with laughter.
“No. No I said I fucked up,” I correct her, assuming she thought I said, “I think I’m fucked up.”
“You mean by drinking so much,” Hen asks,” Yeah, probably so.”
I see Maddie shake her head with a grin out of the corner of my eye and I inquire, “What?”
“Elaborate. They haven’t put two and two together yet,” she replies.
I huff, “I said, ‘I think I fucked up’ because I told myself I was not gonna fall in love again because my luck with relationships is so damn shitty but I think I done fell in love with him and I’m scared.”
“Why are you scared, sweetheart,” Karen asks.
“Because I don’t wanna get hurt again,” I mumble before quickly adding, “It’s not that I think he’s gonna hurt me. It’s just... conditioning ya know? Like, anytime things are going good for a while, my body kicks into fight or flight thinking something bad is about to happen because that’s always what happens. I always get steamrolled and knocked down a peg. I don’t wanna rope him into the shit show that is my life. He deserves someone that has their shit together. Someone who can give him the world. That’s what he deserves... not someone who’s gonna expect shit to go south from the start.” The room is silent as this explanation sinks in.
I hear the beep of Hen stopping the recording as Maddie gets up from the couch and bends down to grab my arm and help me up, “Let’s get you to bed okay?” I nod as she guides me toward a spare bedroom.
Buck’s POV
“How’s (Y/N) doing?” I hear Eddie ask from the kitchen as I sit sipping my whiskey. Chris has already gone to bed for the night and Eddie is putting away leftovers from dinner.
Having not fully processed what he asked due to the alcohol coursing through my bloodstream I drop my head onto the back of the chair I’m sitting in and grin, “She’s just so beautiful.”
Eddie pokes his head around the wall and looks at me in confusion, “What?’
“You asked about (Y/N). She’s pretty... and smart... She’s funny too.”
Eddie waves his hand to interupt me and sits down on the couch across from me, pulling out his phone, “Hang on what were you saying about (Y/N) I couldn’t hear you through your mumbles.”
I know damn well I wasn’t mumbling but repeat myself anyway, “I said, ‘She’s pretty and smart and funny,’” making sure to over-annunciate my words.
“Go on,” Eddie encourages, grinning at his phone.
I shake my head and carry on, “She’s always down for an adventure. She’s self-less. Like, as much as I want to be mad at her for risking her life to save those cats the other day, I can’t be because I know I’d do the same damn thing. She’d risk her life just to make sure someone elses doens’t end or is a little brighter despite the catastrophe they’ve just endured.” I sigh loudly, “I could watch her dance around like a goof ball or ramble about random shit for hours. Her smile makes me smile. Her laugh makes me laugh.”
“Really?” Eddie asks to keep me going.
I nod, “And you know how I nudge her knee with mine all the time?” Eddie nods, “It started out as just a way to annoy her when I was bored but now it’s way more than that. Now it’s a gentle reminder to her that I’m still right there by her side but also a reminder to myself that she’s right there within arms reach. I-I don’t know what I’d do if I lost her. I thought I did when I looked behind us and she wasn’t there. If I had lost her that day then not only would I no longer be able to enjoy her presence but i-it would’ve been my fault. I should’ve pulled up the rear and made sure she got out safe.”
“Don’t blame yourself, Buck. You know she would’ve went back for the cats anyway,” Eddie comments.
“I know but like I said that’s one of the things I love about her,” I pause, “Love. Did I just say love?” Eddie nods, “Man, I think I’m in love.” It’s quiet for a few moments before I breath out a laugh, “She has a really nice ass too.”
Eddie shakes his head and puts his phone away, “Alright buddy,” he says as he gets up and pulls the glass of whiskey from my grasp, “Time for you to hit the hay.” I begrudgingly get up and Eddie helps me to the couch.
“Wait,” I slur out once I’ve plopped onto the couch, and try to get back up but Eddie pushes me back down, “But I wanna go see her,” I whine but as the room wobbles I give up and lie back down.
“You can see her tomorrow. We’re having family breakfast at Athena and Bobby’s remember?” Eddie responds.
“Oh yeah,” I mumble before drifting off to sleep.

Drowning: When victims eventually submerge, they hold their breath for as long as possible, typically 30 to 90 seconds. After that, they inhale some water, splutter, cough, and inhale more. Survivors say there is a feeling of tearing and burning sensation in the chest as water goes down into the airway. Then that sort of slips into a feeling of calmness and tranquillity. That calmness represents the beginnings of the loss of consciousness from oxygen deprivation, which eventually results in the heart stopping and brain’s death.
Kasey was drowning, and it wasn’t at all like the stories.
She remembers one of her old mates – Trey Malik – trying to explain what drowning felt like after he experienced it mere minutes ago, she recalls her army jacket around his shoulders providing him warmth after she dragged him out from the river, she recollects the memory of his shivering body and she remembers watching him instead of holding him, he didn’t want to be held, he insisted on being okay, he just needed a moment to catch his breath then they could continue their mission. He was the one who started the conversation, she knew she didn’t want to hear it, but he didn’t stop, he told her it was important for her to know, important for her to listen to the experience so she knows how to get herself out of it if the time came.
She remembers laughing at that, stating that she will never get herself in that position.
She wasn’t going to drown.
She is even reminded of making a passing joke of how he didn’t get out by himself, she did, she helped him. So if she ever got herself in a position where she was drowning, then the only way to be saved is by someone else.
Trey shrugged his shoulders and mutters a “you never know” before telling her everything he experienced not long ago.
Instead of hearing of a horror story, she was enlightened by a tale that almost came across as a love song towards drowning, Kasey even recognises a sense of comfort washing over his face, one that someone would have when reliving a childhood memory, but instead he was talking about drowning, talked about it as if it was an old friend that gave him such a loving hug, a hug that he has desired for so long, a hug he just needed.
Kasey thinks that was the first time she has ever felt such a bubble of sadness coming from Trey, she recalls feeling closer to him at that moment as she too carried such a heavy heart of sadness that any danger that came her way, she would greet it as if it was a friend, but hearing Trey like that made her hate the world more, because why on earth would our planet be so cruel to such a lovely, good person? He doesn’t deserve to hold such sadness, he didn’t deserve to be out here away from those he cares for, he didn’t deserve to find comfort within drowning.
He didn’t deserve that.
And that made Kasey hate the world more, and it made her want to hug him and take him to a different world, far from this one, a world where he can find peace within the cool air on a spring’s morning, it’s what he deserved at least.
But he didn’t want that, she knew that by the way he talked, by the way he looked, he didn’t want to be saved, perhaps he couldn’t be saved, or maybe he just wasn’t ready yet and when he was then the only one who could help him would be himself.
And that was difficult for Kasey to process, and she thinks she never will truly process it because to her, she can save people, she can help, but Trey was never the person she could, and that’s just a fact that she thinks she’ll never come to terms with.
Perhaps it was a childish thought of Kasey’s to think that she could save everyone, and that saving them would even make her feel better about herself because maybe it’s too late for her to save herself, but it’s not too late to save everyone else.
And it’s stupid, she knows this, she knows it because she’s always the one saving everyone yet there will never be someone to save her…she’s the second choice, maybe not even that, maybe not even the third choice. But Kasey has to save everyone, she just has to, but when she needs saving then no one has to save her, no one chooses to save her, and then she gets to the point where it’s too late to be saved, and she just simply gives up, but to everyone she seems selfish even though she never got anything in return.
She always carried this thought that she was replaceable, that if someone wanted to, they could throw her away like a dead flower, that once stood tall and blossomed under the sunlight, but now only fallen petals remained, and who would even want to keep a wilting flower when there was a sweeter one just outside?
She overthinks it a lot, she overthinks how replaceable she is, and how most of her friends would now walk past her and not give her a second look because to them, she was just a stranger, but to her, she was the stranger that carried all the memories.
She wondered if Trey ever felt the way she did, maybe just once, maybe the currents made him feel wanted, maybe he felt unreplaceable within it, perhaps, just for a moment, he did feel okay, and he was truly telling her how lovely it was. Kasey pondered on this idea, but to her, nothing, absolutely nothing, could make her think drowning could possibly be relaxing.
And if Trey did truly think this, then Kasey began to hate the world even more.
He told her drowning was more peaceful than he could ever imagine, he said maybe he thought that as anything could be more peaceful than fighting in a war, he enjoyed the tranquil silence and the feeling that he was floating on clouds. For a moment he thought he was being gently lifted to the gates of heaven, he thought it was his time to go, and he even thought that drowning wasn’t the worst possible way to go.
Trey found it peaceful, but Kasey was in so much pain.
She was panicking. She barely could see anything in front of her. The water felt like it was suffocating her, filling her lungs and her throat, and causing her to choke. She couldn’t tell if her eyes were open or not, the confusing and disoriented of shattered light through water that shouldn’t be here – that shouldn’t be washing through the city – it shouldn’t be here – if it was where it was supposed to be then Kasey would be able to breathe, to see, to know where she was. But she couldn’t.
Kasey couldn’t breathe. Kasey couldn’t see. And Kasey couldn’t tell which way was up and which way was down.
Her body grew tired of fighting the currents.
Trey told her it was comforting.
But Kasey could recall watching Trey panic before he stilled, and perhaps he didn’t remember that moment, doesn’t remember her fighting against the currents to reach him as she watches him thrash around, yelling, screaming her name. Maybe he didn’t remember that, maybe he didn’t want to remember it, perhaps he just wanted to remember the moment of calmness before you drown. Where you no longer kick or scream, and your lungs don’t have that agonising and burning pain where it feels like it will explode in any second. Where your mind goes blank and there’s just this gentle humming left in your ears – and it’s almost like the lullaby your mother would hum to get you to sleep, it almost becomes…nice.
Comforting.
It feels like a much-needed hug. That too is comforting.
Perhaps this is what death is like, Kasey wondered, perhaps after all of this chaos, death is just around the corner to hand you that certain comfort you have been lacking your entire life. But if this was dying, then why didn’t she see her life flash before her eyes? And why does she feel something other than the cold water that was swallowing her up?
Why could she feel a hand gripping her shirt tightly before pulling her up with them, and the moment her face breaks the surface she takes her first real breath since being under.
She coughed, choked, and spat out filthy, salty water. Her eyes brunt as she repeatedly blinked, once her vision cleared up slightly she noticed the familiar features that belonged to no other but her brother. He was gripping onto the side of a fire truck whilst also holding her as tight as he could – if anything he was holding onto Kasey more than he was gripping the side of the truck, because if he had to lose something it would be the surface of safety and not his sister – he won’t let her go.
Despite the burn within her eyes, she noticed her twin’s struggle, and with numb limbs she pushes herself forwards to also grip onto the side of the truck. TK’s other hand moved to hold the truck too as he pulls himself up, watching as Kasey did so too before collapsing the moment her body made contact with the top of the vehicle. She may not have been drowning under the currents anymore, but it sure did feel like she was drowning on top of this fire truck, she still felt trapped, still unable to do something as simple as breathing. And now instead of hearing a near comforting hum, she hears TK screaming her name before everything went dark.
Once Kasey asked Trey if there was anyone waiting for him at home, waiting on news of his return, or perhaps praying they’ll never get that letter along with a military officer and a Champlin at their doorsteps. He told her that he has a dog waiting on his return, and his father, and he hopes his older brother too, he said they had a complicated relationship, and that was all there was to it, he even said his grandmother would be waiting.
She asked what was the name of his dog, he responded with “Goldfish,” and Kasey remembers chuckling softly at that.
Trey asked if there was anyone waiting for her and Kasey wished she could say yes, but the sad fact was that she couldn’t, she didn’t have anyone.
She fell out with her family before coming here, her own mother never cared much for her, her twin brother, she believed resented her, her father was always doing his own thing, she doesn’t think he would be waiting, she wasn’t a good enough daughter for someone to wait at home for. And along with her twin brother, she knows her best friend hated her, he wouldn’t be waiting for, god he probably be wishing for her not to return. She’s exhausting, she knows this, and she even thinks that she doesn’t want to return home either, she’s too troubled, she can’t be saved, she didn’t have anyone, and she couldn’t hurt them anymore…
After a long silence, she told them him no – then she gave her small explanation after seeing his curious eyes, she didn’t say much, she never did, she never could, but still she tried.
Trey told her none of it was her fault, and she could never believe him, not then and not now.
Sometimes she could still feel the hug Trey gave her after that, Kasey hasn’t felt that vulnerable before, not for a long time at least, nor has she been held so lovingly, so comfortingly, in such a long time. Kasey thought she was going to break down in his arms, but she didn’t, but she knew she could’ve though.
Kasey wondered if that was what drowning felt for Trey, but instead of drowning within water, she was drowning within a hug.
It was peaceful.
It was comforting.
And it was nice.
Kasey began to slowly wake up, her head in TK’s lap as he combs his fingers through her hair. Her first thought was trying to remember where she was, but that all came back in flashes. She shook her head, squeezing her eyes, before opening them once more to see TK’s chin. She then wondered if anyone else she knew got caught up in this, and if they did, were they okay?
Maybe it was a good thing that she didn’t know that Buck and Christopher wasn’t so far away, them too stuck on a fire truck as they helped casualties on board. Cause if she knew then she would have forced her tired body to search for them, to help them, to make sure they were okay.
Kasey would have to make sure they were safe because they were her fam–
Kasey sat up, taking in her surroundings to only notice that there were a few more people on board, all frightened and cold and TK gave her a worrying look, a look that almost begged her to do something, to save them, to just have a plan. But for once, Kasey had nothing as she looked out and around the flooded city, seeing nothing but water and broken homes and objects.
“You helped them?” Kasey muttered as she continued to look out.
“Yeah,” TK whispers. “You were out for a bit so had to improvise.”
“Sorry,” she whispers back.
She feels his hand on her shoulder, squeezing gently as if he ushering her to look at him, and she does, she turns her head, looking over her shoulder with glassy, down, eyes.
“You have nothing to be sor–”
“Your brother said you’re around here. And that he’s a firefighter out in Texas. He mentioned that you were highly ranked in the military…suppose you have the best water training round here?” Kasey hums as her arm covers her face, blocking the sun as she looks at the man who spoke up.
“Did he now?” She purses her lips. “Suppose he mentioned I’m a firefighter too?” The man nods. “Cool.”
“So what do we do?” The man looks around at the other casualties.
“Nothing,” Kasey mumbles, “we can’t do anything – we’ll just have to wait for someone to come and rescue us.”
The man scoffed. “Some firefighter you are, aren’t you meant to be doing the saving? We could die out here.”
Kasey turns around, brows raised, studying the man, hand pressed against her hip, “Oh, I’m sorry Gary, I’ll just whip out the boat I’ve been carrying in my pocket all day and drive you all home in time for dinner.”
He scowled at her. “It’s Raphaël–”
“Some will be in much worst conditions than us, at least we’re safe, that’s what is important, no?” Kasey turns to look back out at the city filled with water. “I’ll try and find a way to get rescued quicker but can’t make no promises here.”
“Kas…” TK’s gentle voice came from behind, his hand squeezing her elbow gently, “you’re bleeding.” As if those words triggered some part in her brain, she feels a sudden sharpness coming from under her shirt, lifting it up she glances at the bruises littering her abdominal and an awful, long cut beginning from the top of her ribs down to her waist.
“I’m fine,” she insists, and she thoughts of this to be true, she’s had worst, and she continued as if it was nothing before, so to her this was fine, all of this was fine, she just wanted to go back to her home – well outside of her apartment, in her car, and just fall asleep…
…she just wanted some peace again.
Kasey lays down to peer over the truck, hands coming into contact with the open window, her fingers pressed against the inside framing and the metal framing of the inside to pull her further over so she can have a better look of the inside of the truck they were on. “You think the radio works?” She questions her brother who she knew was standing right by her, silently watching her body tense from the pain of moving around.
“Probably damaged from the water,” TK responds, ushering Kasey to stand as he hears her quietly groan from moving once again. “You’re going to tire yourself out, Kas, just stop for a moment, please.”
Kasey grimaces as she comes to a stand, “I just want to get us all out of here.”
“I know you do – but hurting yourself more in the process isn’t going to help anyone.”
Kasey thought she was seeing things at first when she saw TK’s right hand shake before he reached out to hold the top of her shoulder, she truly did thought her eyes were tricking her, but with the fear and worry twisted in his eyes, Kasey knew she wasn’t.
He wasn’t scared of her, she knew this, but for her? Yes.
He acted as if she was a fragile piece of artwork that’s been locked behind glass for centuries and now he’s the first to touch it, and he doesn’t even know if a simple brush of his fingers would have it crumbling, but Kasey wasn’t going to break, she knew this, she wasn’t damaged, she wasn’t going to crumble.
Kasey could hold herself longer now, she wasn’t nineteen anymore, she wasn’t nineteen who clung onto Trey Malik as if was the embodiment of air, the reason she could finally breathe again, she wasn’t nineteen no more who was desperate to be held.
Touch wasn’t a weakness for her no more, she gets held on many of occasions, Buck and Kit were the main sources of it, they were big huggers, always have been, physical touch has always been their thing and not fearing their touch proved to the young firefighter that she wasn’t desperate for it anymore, she was held enough to not whimper at the feeling of such comforting warmth no more.
But TK’s always been like this with her, of course they used to play wrestle when they were younger, pull one another’s hairs, the reason for some of the scars on their body after one pushed the other too hard off from the sofa causing the other to be in A&E. But still TK’s always had an element of softness with her, admitting once it’s because he doesn’t want to cause any harm to her, he tolerated a form of guilt growing up whenever he found her quietly ruffling through the medical basket (from the top of their fridge) late at night in their teen years, and he always ushered her to sit on the counter as he helped with the injuries she carried home with her that night, always being the one who has to listen to her holding back the cries of pain when his fingers brushes over a wound accidently, or whenever he began to stich her up as she insisted for no hospitals – she hates them – and that they can do it at home.
He was the one who usually saw her injured, and he was the one who stayed up until she came home just to help her, listening to her apologies for thinking she woke him again, when really she never did, he just awaits for her to make sure she returns home safely, even at his worst he still continued to make sure she came home. And then there was the guilt, the guilt that he gained growing up, watching her flinch at loud noises, especially from arguments, the way her body tensed whenever he tried to help with her injuries as that was the only way she could silently express her pain without waking anyone up, and he was the one who listened as she talked down on herself, thinking no one was there to hear, but he always did, he always would.
TK always wanted her to see him as something she could cling onto whenever she felt like the world was against her once again, but as they become older he knew he was barely that for her, in fact no one was that for her, but she was always that person for everyone else, especially for him.
And every day, TK wishes that Kasey one day finds someone who would happily sit in the dark with her, hand holding hers, as they distract her with random facts or how their day was, and only moves to turn on that switch to guide her out from the dark and welcoming her back into the light.
TK thinks she’s secretly back in the dark, actually he knows she was, and it’s sad to think that she still hasn’t find a comfort person yet – someone who will just help her when she’s down, to let her know she was enough, to just hold her.
TK was guilty when it came to Kasey, he wished they had a better life together, they deserved it, well he would like to think that they did, they were – are – good people, and that’s got to count for something, right? TK has questioned time from time if, in another parallel universe, they got the life they deserve, that they got to be the siblings they should have been, not the ones that were too damaged, not those ones, but the ones who were just happy, the ones who lived nearer together just so they could meet up easier.
Perhaps in that other life they be working together, living that dream they had when they were so young. Perhaps everything was okay in their lives, and they got to be the siblings they deserved to be in this life.
TK knew one day though he wouldn’t be so guilty, he knew those injuries he helped to cover up weren’t his fault, but at times whenever he accidently pressed too hard against a bruise or something then his stomach would twist, and he would be overcome with a sudden sickness all because he was reminded with the fact that he could never protect Kasey.
He thinks that’s what he was most guilty for, in the end it was never about the accidental touches of aiding her injuries, it was always the fact that he could never protect her, Kasey was always doing her own thing, she was always in some form of trouble, she was always someplace else, she was out of his reach, and TK couldn’t ever protect her like he wished he could, but she did for him, and she always will.
But they weren’t kids no more, they were now nearing the age of twenty-five and now, TK wonders, now it could be the time he could protect Kasey, bring her out from the darkness, and to just let go of this guilt, and then maybe, just maybe they could be each other’s safety net, they would feel brave enough to come to each other whenever they needed to, maybe, just maybe, he could play the role of an older brother – older by only fifteen minutes – and just simply protect her, even if it just as simple as protecting her from herself, in the sense that she doesn’t hurt herself more, that she doesn’t do her thing where she doesn’t think of herself, that for once she could just take a moment, take a breath, and think on the situation with him.
Her hands once again found home on her hips, face scrunching as a finger graze the wound and she ignores the look TK gave her.
“Let me check it out–”
“God, I’m so glad I didn’t take my car here.” Kasey mutters, looking up to the sky, as she changes the subject. “Or I would–”
“Lose your house?” Kasey head snaps towards his smug appearance, eyes narrowing at him, and her mouth itches to respond; but she doesn’t. “I’m not wrong am I?”
“I will throw you overboard.”
“No you won’t,” TK smirks, “you’re too nice to do that. Besides,” he then raises his shoulders before dropping them just as quick, “you’ll miss me.”
Kasey hums before her eyes glances over at everyone else for a quick moment before she steps closer to her brother to quietly talk with him. “We got to try and find some rescue for them soon though, the first wave of a tsunami is never the worst,” her eyes flickers back over to the group, maybe about seven other people, all adults, “even if that means we’re our own rescue team.”
“Kasey, that’s to risky and in your condition–”
“Forget about my injury, I’ll live, okay? We can use the hose and the things around us to try and find somewhere better, perhaps find a proper rescue team or even a hospital.” She ran a hand through her hair. “We don’t know how long rescue will be, we don’t know how much more damage is out there, and whilst we’re at it we can rescue more people.”
“You said that the only thing we can do is wait.”
She sighs, “I only said that as I didn’t have time to think of anything else.”
Now TK sighs as he looks around desperately, hand holding the back of his head, and he balances out their options within his mind. “TK, it’s better if we move than sit around, we’re only getting colder here.”
“I know, I know.” He turns his head to now look at the group, they’re all sitting around close to one another to try and warm the other arm, but most were still shivering. “How long you think we got?”
“Until the second wave?” Kasey questions, and he nods, “I don’t know, man.” She now faces the group, making small movement to get closer to them. “Is anyone injured at all?” Kasey grimaces slightly that she hasn’t even asked them how they were yet.
“No one’s injured, Kas,” TK answered. “I asked whilst you were out and–” He stops when he notices a sudden rush in the water. No, no, no, no, not now, please not now, TK silently begs.
He thinks he hears Kasey tell people to get down, his mind was no longer here, he just thinks about the second wave, and the second wave only. He thinks he hears screams, and he thinks he hears Kasey trying to calm them down, but he doesn’t know what she says, instead his hand grabs the hose, pulls on it tightly and his eyes focuses on it unwrapping, he turns, gestures it towards Kasey who pulls on it too, ushering everyone to grab ahold of it, that maybe if they were lucky enough they would still be attached to this fire truck at the end of it.
There’s were screams as the second wave hit, it was nothing like the waves that lapped the shore every minute of every day. It was a wall of filthy, cold, and powerful water. The water had no gentle softness to it, instead it had no thought, no motion, and no hesitation as it destroys everything in it’s path just to hit their targets. Within moments, TK was breathing the air, and just as he took a deep breath he feels frigid foamy fingers grabbing a hold of him.
It was their dear old friend, the ocean.
The water was once a great fear of TK’s when he was younger, he thinks it started when he was three where his uncle thought it was a good idea to take him onto a waterslide. They went down a long, twisting concealed one but as they came to the end his uncle didn’t let him go, instead he pulled him right under the chemical water with him. TK doesn’t remember it fully, he just remembers a glimpse of a waterslide and a flash of memory that showed him under the pool’s water, and every now and then, when he was younger, he could feel that sudden tightness within his chest.
TK tried to stay away from the depths of water from then on, always panicking whenever his family tried to bring him into the pool with them, but he wasn’t having any of it.
He remembers a wedding at the age of five, and the same uncle who created his fear of water was teaching his sister how to surf in the far distance whilst he was with his mother taking photos, he recalls that she told him not to wander off, but he does so anyways, he walks down the pier, wanting to see how much panic the ocean can truly offer him, he was fine with just staring at it first, he then decided maybe to sit down in the opening between the two broken fences, but instead his foot somehow slipped and he fell into the water, his mother jumps in to save him within seconds, cause little TK didn’t know how to swim, nor did he know how to breathe under the sea.
At five, he learnt how much fear the ocean has to offer.
Up to the age of ten, TK would stay on the beach building sandcastles with his family, but his eyes were always distracted by his sister and his uncle out on the waves; surfing. His ears always listened to the way his father complained every day and how he wished Gwen’s brother didn’t teach Kasey on how to surf, he didn’t understand the problem, it wasn’t like Kasey was afraid of water so why would it be a problem if she enjoyed the feeling of the water crashing over her every time she fell off her surfboard? She seemed to be laughing each time her face breaks the surface and then off she went back onto her surfboard to catch another wave.
TK longed to surf with his sister, but he never did, not even when he overcame his fear, Owen truly wasn’t having it, he couldn’t have both kids learning to surf, he couldn’t let it happen again.
So at the age of seven TK stopped learning how to surf among the safety of the sands, he never took another board out from the stands and tried to learn, to mimic everything Kasey did out in the sea, his fingers never brushed the sands the same since seeing how furious his father was after TK stated he would surf with Kasey one day, he never thought about learning to surf one day again.
At the age of ten, TK learnt how to swim, Kasey was adamant about it, she said it was time for him to overcome his fears and learn how to swim because what if you fall in again and no one was there to save you? What would you do then? It was a brutal honest truth that TK never wanted to know, but deep down he knew he had to learn, had to overcome. Because what if he did one day fall into a body of water and there was no one around to save him? He wouldn’t know how to get out of that situation, he would be panicking more as he had no experience in even swimming.
One of Kasey’s friends had a pool in their back garden, it was quite odd to ten-year-old TK considering they lived in New York City, but he never questioned it. So, every Tuesday, after school, they would learn how to swim for an hour in Kasey’s friend pool whilst her friend was with Gwen learning the piano.
Once he reached his teenager years TK wasn’t afraid of water no longer, and he thought of himself as a confident swimmer too. But still, whenever they found themselves at the beach, TK stayed on the beach, becoming familiar with the sands once again whilst he watches his sister out on the waves, he did still wish to be out there with her, but his fingers never touched a board, no, because maybe he wasn’t afraid of water anymore but seeing how scared, how angry their father was whenever he hears about Kasey talking about surfing, made him never want to feel what it was like when the waves were beneath you.
“Buck!”
That was the first thing both Strands heard as they tried to come back to their surroundings, both could still feel the re-enforced plastic in their hands and they heard some groans around them, perhaps they were alright, perhaps everyone was able to stay –
“Buck!”
Kasey pulls herself across the top of the fire truck, fingers pressing against the side as she grimaces at the pressure against her injuries, once her head hit the small bump that was on the top of the fire truck, gesturing that she reached the side of it, she hesitantly looked over the top to see who was yelling such a familiar name.
Her heart was heavy, wishing it wasn’t someone she knew, but the name, the voice, it was so–
“Buck?!”
Kasey blinks as she narrows her eyes at the blurry figure in the water, a yellow stripped top she thinks they’re wearing and they’re resting against the side of what she would say, a wooden plank and –
Oh god.
Oh, no, no, no.
“Christopher!” Kasey yells, voice strained from her previous yells for everyone to get down, strained from the amount of water she thinks she accidently inhaled and –
“Christopher!” She calls again and she was on her feet, diving into the water with no hesitation. It was Eddie’s boy – it was Christopher – it was her sweet Christopher, and he was yelling for her best mate and–
The water was still deep in the area they were in, not yet washed out back to sea like she was hoping it would, so she fought against the water that was still rushing through the destruction and she doesn’t stop until she reaches a trunk of a tree that was surprisingly still standing tall, with a heavy breath she awaits for a second as the plank of wood Chris was keeping himself up with passes by, and when it did she quickly grabbed him and pulled him tightly towards her.
Her arms were firmly around him as she takes a step back, her right hand was cupping the back of his head and her eyes were furrowed shut as she just lets him cling onto her, his fingers twisting into the back of her shirt, gripping it tightly, afraid to just disappear again.
“I got you; I got you, love.” She rushes out. “You’re gonna be okay kid, I’ve got you now, I’ve got you.”
Christopher blinks into the shoulder of the women he was so familiar with, and his fingers pressing into her back even more at the realisation it’s her – he’s going to be okay as she’s got him now and oh my word it’s –
“Kasey?”
Oh, and how her stomach fell at the sound of his weak, tired, and quiet voice, no, god, no, why did he of all people had to be caught out in this.
“Oh, baby,” she utters gently, she now stands in the gap behind the tree, the water wasn’t so strong or deep there, so she was able to rest and look at Chris properly as she stood there whilst she thought on how to get them back to the fire truck. “What are you – where’s your glasses?”
“I-I,” he stutters, stumbling over every other word as he speaks with her, “I lost them. I lost Buck. He was helping and-and I fell…I lost Buck and–”
She hushes him gently, brushing his hair back with her hand before her hand falls to lay softly against his cheek where her thumb brushes away the fallen tears. “Oh, honey,” she frowns as she tries to act calm with him, but she wasn’t, she couldn’t be, Buck was out there too, and she has no idea if he was okay, and he would be worried sick because Chris wasn’t with him any longer and he wouldn’t know that Chris was safe – that he was with her now. “We’ll find Buck and your glasses, let’s just get you back to the truck.”
The water was still by the time she calmed Chris down by the tree and it meant she could take them back to the truck much easier than it would have been earlier.
“You remember TK, right Chris?” Kasey questioned as TK waved with a soft smile at the boy, throwing Kasey a worried glance, it didn’t cross TK’s mind that children would have been caught in this mess, not until he saw Eddie’s kid right in front of him, shivering in Kasey’s arms as she holds him, hands rubbing up and down his as she placed light kiss on top of his head every now and then.
Chris nods.
He remembers TK, he was Kasey’s older brother, by fifteen minutes if he remembers correctly from hearing them playfully arguing about it. TK shared a bag of sweets with him when they sat in the waiting room together whilst waiting on news about Kasey, he remembers that TK shared the same taste when it came to pick n’ mix, his father was asleep next to him, arms folded, and Chris never told him about the amount of sweets he ate that day as he listens to Owen’s – TK and Kasey’s father – stories about being a firefighter out in Texas.
So, of course he remembers the nice man that’s Kasey’s brother.
TK kneels down, hand reaching forwards to ruffle the younger boy’s curls. “What you doing out here, bud?”
“I was with Buck,” he tells TK in a quiet voice, “we went to the carnival on the pier and–”
“Buck’s here?” TK mouths to Kasey who just nods as she lays another kiss on top of Chris’ head, but she was quick to move away, tilting her head back as she let out a low hum at Chris shuffling back into her stomach, her eyes scrunches up and Chris was quick to turn around to try and find out what the fuss is about.
“Kasey,” his finger presses against her chin, next to the cut his eyes has just caught sight of. “You’re bleeding.” Kasey wanted to chuckle at his worriedness about her, she was glad he didn’t catch sight on the pain she was in and that he thought it was just a cut that caused her that sudden distress that caught his attention.
“It’s nothing, kiddo,” she didn’t know there was a cut on her chin until he pointed it out, perhaps she got it when she pulled herself across the roof of the truck, perhaps it was just a graze that was only slightly bloody.
“You need a plaster.”
“I tell you what,” she begins as she adjusts him in her lap, moving him slightly away from the ache in her left leg and more onto her right leg, one of his arms where around her shoulder, fingers brushing the back of her neck, and his other hand was in his lap. “When we get to some land you can find me the best plaster for the graze.” Chris nods.
“Spider-Man ones?”
“I think that be well cool!” She grins and TK smiles as she watches the interaction in front of him. “TK?” Her brother hums. “We got to start moving, the water should be shallow enough for us to walk through now.”
“What if there’s another wave?”
“We’ll just have to hope for the best that’s this is it.”
TK nods, standing up from his crouching position to rub his hands against the wet material of his jeans before he leans forwards to pick Chris off from Kasey for a moment whilst she tells everyone that it be best if they move and try and find some help, after some glances shared between them Kasey states that they could stay on the truck if they wanted and when she finds help she’ll try and send them their way, but it be quite risky to stay on a truck that’s practically flooded.
She jumps down from the truck and into the water below, taking Chris out from TK’s arms as she brings him down into the water too, but instead of letting him go, she adjusts him into a more comfortable position for her to carry him.
TK, along with the other’s, jump down from the truck too and collectively follow the Strands and the kid on their mission to find some help.
“Perhaps we can go to the zoo together one day,” TK speaks up after walking in silence for a little too long for his liking.
“The zoo?” Kasey raises a brow at her brother who just responses with a huge grin.
“Yeah!” He’s got a sudden spring in his step. “Both of our families – you know the 126 and the 118, that cop,” TK clicks his finger as he tries to think of her name. “Athena! Athena can come and Chris obviously be coming with us and–”
“And your cop boyfriend?” Kasey smirks, forging a pain of hurt as TK slaps her shoulder, the one that was closest to him, but furthest from Christopher.
“Not my boyfriend,” TK mutters, the spring leaving his step, as he folds his arms across his chest, pouting ever so slightly.
Kasey only hums, corner of her mouth still tugged up.
“I like the zoo,” Chris jumps into the conversation.
“Oh, yeah?” TK holds his hands behind his back, his right hand wrapping round his left wrist whilst his attention is on the boy in Kasey’s arms. If he didn’t know her, he would have thought they were mother and son, that thought alone brought a kind look onto his face as he thought about one day the pair of them will find someone who loves them, and perhaps they’ll have kids with their significant others, however that be, and they would have those family days that they never got growing up, that one day they could actually be a family they deserved, start again now that Kasey was in LA and he’s started a new life in Texas – perhaps this is life giving them another chance, another go at life.
Another warm thought bubbles within TK, and that was the thought of the boy in Kasey’s arms becoming his family too, he hears the way Kasey talks about the Diaz’s, he sees how happy they have made her and how much they helped her too, and of course there was Buck, her LA best friend, but he was just like another brother to her, but Eddie – my god, Kasey deserves to have someone good like Eddie, she really does, and TK could only hope that the universe just gives her the best.
He's seen the way Eddie looks at her too, of course TK seen it, even a blind person could sense the way Eddie feels about Kasey, and usually TK would get slightly concerned whenever guys are interested in his sister due to her never having good past relationships, but Eddie, he would know she be safe with him, that she’ll be okay, that’s she’ll be happy, and god did she deserve that.
So, maybe one day, if the universe isn’t so mean, the Diaz’s will become very familiar to him and his own father, and perhaps they’ll have those BBQ nights whenever they’re down in Texas or LA. And everyone they see as family joins too, and the kids are at the end of the garden playing some imaginary game and the adults are laughing.
And they’re all just happy.
Maybe, just maybe, they get the things they deserve, because they’re all good people, and that gotta mean they deserve something good at least, right?
“What’s your favourite animal?” He questions and Chris thinks for a little while before answering –
“Lions? I like lions.”
“They’re pretty cool, aren’t they kiddo?” Kasey says as she takes in her surroundings once more, making sure she’s a step ahead of everyone just in case anything happens then she be the first to discover it.
Whilst Chris told them a little fact about lions, TK nudged Kasey’s arm before leaning closer to whisper: “why are we heading more towards the pier?”
Kasey felt her eyes widen, quickly turning her head to look at her brother. She didn’t think he’ll notice, in fact she didn’t think he’ll even know the area they were heading towards, but he did.
“We’re not going there directly–” She sighs, “I just need to see if there’s any sighting of Buck…” Kasey looks back at Chris with a fake, relaxed smile, “you said lions starts off spotty?” He nods. “I think that makes them even cooler. You know, Chris, I think you’re just like a lion – you’re really brave. The bravest person I know.”
“Really?”
“Yeah – I’m real glad your dad joined the 118, or I wouldn’t have met the coolest, bravest person out there.”
Christopher smiles brightly before burying his face into Kasey shoulder as he hugs her tightly, “I’m really glad too.”
Kasey was surprised by not stumbling across anyone else, she wonders if rescue has been close by and that everyone else has been rescued within the area, perhaps they just missed a rescue boat, but Kasey hasn’t heard no engine, or any noise expect their movements through the waters and the quiet chatter amongst the group.
She thought all was rescued till she heard a scream for help coming from a building to the right up ahead, someone was trapped under some of the damage from the buildings and trees and Kasey purses her lips as she looked around quickly, checking that the area they were in was fine for everyone to wait within for a few seconds whilst she goes to help the person.
Coming to a quick judgement, she hands Christopher over to TK and Christopher almost calls for her, begging her not to go, to not leave him, he lost Buck the same way too, he can’t lose Kasey too.
Kasey brushes back his hair as she stands in front of the pair. “Hey, kiddo, you’re gonna be okay. I’ll just need to help that person over there,” she jerks her thumb behind her shoulder to the person who was crying for help. “And then I’ll be right back.” And with that she rushed – as quickly as she could with the waist-high water – towards the one in danger.
“Hey! Hey! I’m here to help,” she offers out a hand, “I’m firefighter Strand of the 118, I just need you to tell me if anything hurts whilst I take this weight of you, okay?” She heard a chocked out okay from them before she began to push and pull a mixture of debris off from the stranded person.
The water was raising.
No – no, not again, please not again.
She was pushing it off quicker now, and the second her hand grabbed the person underneath and pulled them up to their feet, the third wave came, and Kasey could hope that this was the last one as she pushes the stranger to the wall and held the pair of them for coverage.
Kasey was no stranger to metaphoric drowning; she was so used to her heart anchoring her down. Weighing her down to the point that she could no longer move. She was so used to the cold feeling, the loneliness, the pain, it all felt normal for her now.
Kasey knew most would be familiar with the sense of metaphoric drowning, but most usually were able to break the surface, catch their breath, learn how to breathe again. Kasey thinks she’s been under for too long now, she doesn’t think she’ll ever meet the light that dances across the surface.
Kasey would like to think that TK was beginning to learn how to breathe again after New York, and Kasey is thankful for it as TK deserved to rest, he deserved his happiness, he was a good person, he didn’t deserve to drown.
On his way to Texas, Kasey recalls a private phone call between the pair, it was short as she was on her shift, but in the call, TK begs her to come to Texas, to fix their family, to mend it, to rebuild it, he tells her he would have never gotten better for himself, he only did for her, dad, and mum, and he tells her, with the quietest of voices that he needed her, he needed his sister, and he begs for her to come live with them in Texas, they can live out their dream on being firefighters together, but Kasey told him no, she couldn’t, she may have an alright relationship with their father and a strong relationship with TK, but she knew if she ever lived with them then it would just destroy her more, her chances of ever seeing the surface would vanish in a blink of an eye and she would just have to befriend the ocean floor.
She could live with TK, she knew she could, and hearing his broken voice over the phone made her want to drop everything and come and live with him, but her and their father didn’t see eye-to-eye all of the time, they were better than her and Gwen, but that wasn’t enough, that wasn’t enough, none of it was enough – despite wanting to be there for TK, she knew living with them wasn’t going to do her no good, so she declined.
She told him she’ll visit when she can and she’ll always be in LA if he needed, and she suppose she just has to continue watching him live his life through the photographs he sends, and the calls he makes, and she’ll just have to watch him from the distance like she always have.
Maybe in another life they could have gotten what they deserved as siblings.
But in this one they grew up together with different memories and experiences from their childhood. The pair were prodigy children but love for Kasey has always been contingent. Unlike TK, who was seen as the child who could do no wrong, Kasey was the burnout child, the troublemaker, and she was just too difficult for them.
In her childhood bedroom there were many sport trophies in which TK, Kit, and Vanessa watched her win (most of them), Owen tried to watch her win as many as he possibly could and Gwen…well, when she came it was clear she never wanted to be there.
Kasey wore the title of ‘disappointment’ with the most honour though. It was a common word that was thrown at her, the phase “you won’t be anything” followed closely behind. And despite her telling everyone she was fine, no one would truly understand the weight of her families words. TK heard the fights, but that didn’t mean he understood the way Kasey felt about their family, he didn’t have to live up to their family expectations, and he didn’t have to listen to the constant reminders from their mum of how much she has sacrificed to get him there, and that everyone is counting on him – no, TK never knew what that side of the family was like, that was what Kasey always saw and heard. He heard the proudness, but she heard the disappointments, the “you’re just not good enough.”
TK was never the one who threw up before every game in his sophomore year, no, that was Kasey. Kasey, the one who had to sit in the car listening to her mum scream at her if she lost, or worst, they just sat in silence. Whenever Gwen came to watch Kasey play, coincidentally Kasey’s team lost, it was as if she was their bad luck charm, or perhaps it was the way she made Kasey so nervous to the point she couldn’t concentrate properly because she wanted to show her mum that she was good, that she wasn’t such a screw up, that she was good at something.
But no, whenever she came to watch they lost and it was always Kasey’s fault, the one who was to be blamed, and the one who gets told she wasn’t worth the trophies in her room.
Kasey never had a childhood, but she made sure TK did, she sacrificed everything just to make sure he didn’t ever see the side of their family she saw, that he was happy, that he’ll never experience the feeling of drowning. And she would do it again. She would. She would go though all the pain all over again as long as it ends with TK being happy.
But he would never remember that it was her who had to make microwave meals in the first few years after the divorce because Gwen was always busy with Enzo. Once she overheard that Gwen couldn’t stand being in the same house as her daughter, so Kasey took it upon herself to stay in her room for as long as possible just for TK to have the chance to have family dinners again with Gwen and now her new boyfriend, Enzo, and then when they were all in bed Kasey would eat the leftovers or find something else to eat.
She couldn’t let TK live the way she did, even as a young child she knew this, TK deserved a childhood and Kasey was fine with eating at the dining table alone every night.
Gwen blames Kasey for her and Owen’s divorce, despite it being the weight of the 9/11 incident mixed with some other personal problems, no, Kasey was apparently a massive factor in their divorce and Kasey remembers her father telling her that she could come live with him if she wanted, she would’ve said yes if it wasn’t for TK, but there was TK and she couldn’t leave him, she couldn’t do that to him, so she decided to stay – for him.
TK will never know that it was his younger sister that raised him for most of his childhood as their dad was grieving and their mum…was well, Gwen. But to TK, Kasey knew he would always remember their mum being there, and she was, in a way, she was there for him at least whenever she wasn’t around.
But TK does remember, he does remember some it, like how she was the one who taught him how to swim, when it really should have been one of their parents, but no it was his twin sister, and my god was he thankful for her.
He always has been thankful for her, even if he could never recall the extent she went for him at times due to the way she protected and shield him for that side of their family. But despite all this, Kasey knew that TK would remember the times she failed him, that she was the one to blame for him to understand the feeling of metaphoric drowning, she was the one who believed to be blamed for him starting drugs, and she was the one who left him…and that’s the main thing he’s going to remember, he wont remember how she accepted the abandonment from her mother just so TK could still have a mum, and he will never remember how Kasey sacrificed her life to make sure TK was happy. No, he’ll never know because Kasey will never tell him, she doesn’t want him to feel guilty as there was no reason to. But Kasey would do it again, she was his sister, she was meant to protect him, she felt lighter when she saw her brother happy – he deserves it, he’s a good person.
But the thing Kasey knew she’ll never be able to handle was the fact that out of everything, TK will remember how she left the most, he’ll memorise every detail of that night, and be able to relive it all the time. He’ll remember how she left, and he’ll remember how, like every disappointed child, she hid in her own shadow and drowned.
But even though she left, even though she carried the belief that TK hated her, Kasey will never know how many times TK fell asleep in her bed after she left. Kasey would never know how much TK talked to himself in her room, pretending she was there, telling her ghost that he missed her and to come back home.
She will never know that despite how she left, despite the fights, despite the disagreements, all TK ever wanted was for his little sister to come back.
Kasey never knew that even though he never responded, he kept every letter she ever sent him in those years they spent not seeing each other, in a shoebox under his bed, and how he would pull that shoebox out and re-read every letter that he was ever given by her, he even put in the letters he got from her throughout the years, even birthday cards, and he would read them all every night that she spent out at war.
All TK ever wanted was his little sister.
Now, she was under the water again, fighting against the current, and her eyes felt heavy, but she continued to fight. So fought like a maniac as she struggled to regain control, thrashing until her limbs gave out and the light above the surface drifted away, leaving her numb in the darkness. But even then, even when her body felt like giving up, she fought even more.
Finally, her face broke the surface, even if it was just for a second, she made sure to look around, the stranger wasn’t there no longer, the group wasn’t there, and nor was TK or Christopher. Kasey knew she was about to lose air again, she knew she was going to go under again, and Kasey knew she should focus on trying to get some air back into her lungs, but she couldn’t.
She couldn’t because how can someone catch another breath when all the air has just left your lungs the moment you realise two of the people you care most about wasn’t there?
TK and Christopher was no longer with her.
But somehow she gasped for her last breath of air before the icy-cold water flooded in; her throat burned as if a thousand needles had been plunged into it. But her gasp wasn’t truly her last breath, it was really her last scream as she called their names, but the heavy blanket around her swallowed that up and dulled her senses before embracing her into another tight, warm, suffocating hug.
Kasey was growing tired, she wanted to become a victim to the hug and just fall further into it.
Perhaps this is the peace Trey told her about, that you’ll truly feel all the pain leave your body and nothingness will fill your body as you just fall into the embrace that Poseidon gives you. You feel warmth from his sandy, bubbly, fingers, and you’ll feel yourself nodding along to him questioning you if you were ready to leave.
But at that question, Kasey found herself shaking her head, eyes still squeezed shut, but she attempted to wake her body up, even if it’s just for a few minutes just so she could swim up to the surface again. Because maybe Trey found comfort within Poseidon hold, but she didn’t, she wasn’t ready to go, not yet, and even if she was, she just couldn’t leave, not when TK and Chris needed her.
So she fought her way back to the surface with two things on her mind. She thought of TK. And she thought of Christopher. And that alone was enough for her to continue to fight.
                                               ❥๑━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━๑❥
“Hey – Hey, I’m looking for a TK – Tyler Kennedy Strand, and Evan Buckley and Christopher Diaz.” Kasey’s strained voice begs the woman in scrubs that stood in front of her. The tips of Kasey’s fingers were bloody, and she lightly touches one of the woman’s arms, body flinching at the realisation of what she just done.
The lady looks Kasey over with the bottom of her lip tucked in between her teeth. Kasey didn’t look so good, not with the cuts over her face and the blood-soaked t-shirt she was wearing. She questioned if Kasey even realised how badly injured she was, but perhaps the shirt being dark has hidden the truth from her and she was just now running on pure adrenaline. But Kasey knew, she knew how badly hurt she was, but she wasn’t going to let herself get looked at until she knew those people were safe, that they were alright.
Kasey takes a nervous step back at the look of worry the woman gave her.
“Ma’am you need to see–”
“Are they here?” Kasey stuttered out, hand moving to clutch her side as she felt a sudden rush of pain run through her as she impatiently waited for the woman to skim through the pages of her clipboard.
She shakes her head. “You may wanna check over there at the black tent.”
Kasey’s eyes shifts to look over the woman’s shoulder, gulping nervously.
“But we need to check you–”
“Isn’t that the–”
“The morgue.” Kasey’s unfinished question echoes through her ears, through her mind, through her heart for a little too long. She feels a sudden shakiness in her hand, and her legs began to feel weak, and Kasey thinks her vision is going, but none of that mattered, not with the haunting hum that runs through her body; her soul.
Kasey felt like she was drowning again, felt like she was wrapped in the currents once again. Her breathing halted and her throat twisted and squeezed every word she thought of.
Her stomach turned at the thought.
She gags at the sight of it, at the word of it, and at the thought of it.
Morgue.
Just that word made her feel like she was under again, that the bile in her mouth was the salt water that tried to suffocate her, and death still lingered at the back of her mind as she passed the woman, ignoring her calls for someone to come and help the injured woman.
Kasey paused a few meters away from the black tent.
She failed them.
She’s the reason that they could possibly be–
Kasey couldn’t save them.
With her blood-stained hands, she clasps them together and presses against her stomach where she’s sure her heart has fallen into.
It’s impossible. They couldn’t be dead – not her brother, her best friend, and not her–
She wasn’t there, she should’ve been there, she shouldn’t have left them, she should stayed.
She should’ve stayed.
She should’ve stayed.
She takes a step forward. And another. And another. She thinks she’s thirteen and half steps away from the tent before her feet stop moving, She just stands there staring at it.
“Kasey?” A voice pulls her out, and tiredly she turns to the call, “Kasey!” It was no longer a questioning tone, it was more a tone of worry, and her eyes were fluttering shut but the feeling of cold hands on her cheeks awoke her and she was now welcomed by the eyes of someone she’s known from childhood – TK. TK is here, TK’s alive and – oh, she looks over her shoulder to see her team staring at her worriedly as they stand around a tired-looking Buck with cuts across his face and is his hand bleeding? But Buck is alive too and–
“Chris? Where is he? I lost you – I wasn’t good–” Eddie feels Chris push him away slightly from the hold he was in before turning around and stumbling his way towards Kasey who rushes forwards, kneeling on the ground just to hold him.
She ignored all the pain that came with the movements.
“I’m sorry – I’m so sorry – I shouldn’t have left you – I should have been there – I should have been – I’m not going again, I’ll–” She stops when she fells Christopher hold onto her even tighter, it wasn’t like the time before when she was holding him as they walked through the water, he didn’t hold her like was scared she would disappear, he held her in the way one would hold a loved one once they returned home safe. Chris tucks his face more into the crook of Kasey’s neck and mumbles out a tired but relieved, “you’re okay.” And maybe the hug was painful, but it was worth it, it was worth it cause she has her little Diaz in her arms again and her lips pressed against his cheek, giving it a feather light kiss like a way a mother would kiss their child in comfort after they had a nightmare. “I’m so sorry,” she murmurs, voice hitching around the lump in her throat. “I’m so sorry I couldn’t find you, kiddo.”
Kasey remains kneeling on the concreate as she tucks a cold and damp Christopher closer to her chest. She rests her forehead against his cheek as she just breaths in the smell of the salt water that lingers on the curls of his hair. “I’m sorry – I’m so sorry – I didn’t – I–” Her voice shakes in distraught, but she is interrupted by Christopher little voice.
“You’re okay now kid, we’ve got you.” He mimics a phase he often hears around, and Kasey indeed felt like she will be okay as she holds him in her arms.
She holds him a little longer before she ushers him to go hold Buck for a bit more as she notices Eddie standing near, face unreadable as he stares at the pair. TK was now perched on a rock as he finally caught his breath, asking Bobby if he could borrow his phone to ring his dad.
Christopher moves towards Buck and Kasey moves to stand, grimacing slightly as she did so.
“Eds–” But the look on Eddie’s face cuts her off as he shakes his head before he gently pulls her in closer by her right wrist. His eyes searches her up and down, lingering slightly longer on her stomach. “I’m fine,” she utters, and Eddie doesn’t believe it, but he just wants to feel her, touch her, just do something to rest his racing mind and make himself believe that she is real, that she is alive.
He thought he lost both her and his son tonight, and he just finished holding his son and now he’s got to hold Kasey whilst Buck now holds Christopher to assure his mind that they’re fine – that they will be okay eventually.
But Kasey didn’t return for nearly fifteen minutes after TK and Chris, and as the time ticked the more his mind tried to convince him that Kasey truly was dead.
But she wasn’t, she was standing in front of him and all he wants to do is hold her and never let het go. All he wants to do is take both her and Christopher home and watch some stupid show on the TV as he just holds his son and best friend…
And now Eddie’s hand slides up the back of Kasey’s neck, her damp, knotted hair falling over it as his thumbs strokes the base of her head softly.
Kasey was here, Kasey was fine, and she was real.
His family was okay and now the one who held his heart in her palms was right in front of him, and without a thought crossing his mind his forehead rests against hers and their eyes fall shut as they embraced this, and now she was being pulled into his chest and her arms were wrapping round him, and oh god was Kasey happy that something other than the ocean was gripping her, holding her – protecting her.
Kasey didn’t think much of it either as his lips brushed the top of her head.
Her rocks them side-to-side and he feels a smaller body wrapping round his waist before he ushers the two of them to kneel to the ground, then he pulls Christopher into their hug. And for a small moment, they seemed like a family who just been caught in a natural disaster, that he was the relief husband that his wife and son has returned back to him, and sometimes that’s what it felt like, and right now it did feel like it, despite the natural disaster, Eddie couldn’t help but think about it.
His fingers grip onto them for dear life and he’s now mumbling that their okay, that he’s got them now, and they will be okay.
Buck was back on the phone (Athena’s phone) with Maddie whilst Hen and Chimney ushered him and TK (TK now finally getting ahold of Owen) into a tent to get checked out, Buck questioned about Kasey and Christopher and they insist that they’ll be okay, that Eddie’s got them now, and they will be just fine.
Kasey was sobbing now, she tried to hold it back, but feeling the safety around her she began to sob, and she knew Christopher was crying too as she felt his body shake in her arm and Eddie was certain he had tears quietly running down his own cheeks, but he didn’t bring much notice to it as he took care of the two in his arms.
Eddie doesn’t think he’s ever felt this stress, not till he experienced the last seventeen minutes where he found a badly-looking Buck with his son’s glasses telling him that he lost Christopher, to Christopher returning in the arms of TK Strand, only to face TK’s panic as he begs Eddie to tell him that Kasey was here and that she was okay, to him saying he hasn’t seen her, to thinking she was dead, until now holding her and Christopher in his arms as he thanks the universe for returning them all back alive.
Bobby takes a step forwards with a doctor next to him along with the worried woman in scrubs who Kasey met first. He clears his throat, hating to break it all up, but it only just came to his attention of how hurt Kasey seemed, and she needs to urgently be looked at.
“Eddie,” his voice is quiet to not alarm anyone, “Eddie, we’ve got to check them out, please.”
Eddie nods as he slowly lets them go. He raises to his feet and picks Christopher up with one arm. Christopher’s shattered body wrapped round Eddie’s left side, his head resting against his shoulder whilst Eddie moved to stand on one of Kasey’s side whilst Bobby came to assist the other side, they both caught her as she stumbled to stand, the pain overtaking her once again, and her mind finally was catching up with the wounds across her body.
“Can you stand?” Eddie asked.
Kasey nodded shakily, trying to pull herself up onto her feet. Just as soon as she managed to get upright, her knees buckled.
Eddie and Bobby catches her before she fell back to the ground, helping Kasey to stand back up. “S-sorry,” she stutters “I-I-I–”
“It’s okay, we’ve got you.”
When they entered the medical tent, Eddie insisted to be the one to look after Kasey whilst Buck took Christopher after whining softly that he needs to hold the kid again, and Eddie allowed him too, knowing he’ll be safe as Buck holds him whilst Chimney moves to check Christopher over.
Kasey unconsciously rested her head against the top of his as he kneeled slightly in front of her to gain access to her abdominal area. Her shirt was pushed up whilst Eddie gently disinfected the area, the wounds weren’t as bad as he thought they be, the bleeding had came to a stop a while ago he believes, and it was a good sign to see that she wouldn’t be needing any stitches either.
Eddie’s finger dances across the cleaned, and freshly bandaged wounds, his finger pauses at a scar just above the beginning of the white bandage, and he ponders over it, but he says nothing of it when Bobby taps his shoulder, presenting a clean shirt that he must have found.
“We’ll have fresher clothes at mine for her to get into after she showers.” Bobby smiles softly and Eddie responds with his own small smile as he nods, but as he turns to face Kasey again his smile faltered slightly as reality struck him with the fact that Kasey wouldn’t be coming home with him and Christopher.
For most of time, Christopher stuck with either Buck or TK, only coming over when he see’s Kasey slightly more awake than before, drinking some water as she winces every now and then as Eddie daps a cloth around her face to clean the cuts there. He listens to his father quietly apologise to her, and he watches as Kasey shakes her head at it every time.
Chris brings himself closer to them, he was in different clothes now from the box Bobby searched through, and so was Buck and TK, all their old stuffs were stuffed in one pile by Athena as she spoke quietly with Bobby of how she is becoming a pro at washing due to the amount of blood and dirt she has taken out of clothes that belonged to him or their two older kids that go by the name of Buck and Kasey, and a few more clothes won’t be a hassle either, she’s just glad that they’re all okay.
His head falls onto his dad’s shoulder as he looks up at Kasey with a smile.
“Hey my little lion,” Kasey teased, hand reaching out to run through his curls as she eyes his scrunched up hand, “you doing okay, kiddo?” He nods before holding his hand out to her, presenting her with a collection of plasters with a small frown.
“They didn’t have any Spider-Man ones,” Kasey gently takes the plasters out from his hands as she looks at them. “Only Scooby Doo ones.”
Kasey gasps in small excitement, “well that’s good!” She says with a grin, but Eddie could see the tiredness behind it. “I love Scooby Doo!”
“Me too,” Christopher states with a bubble of laughter.
“Would you like to put the plasters on Kasey?” Eddie questioned as he took in the sight of the two, coming to a quick understanding that they must have talked about plasters when they found one another. Christopher nods and Eddie stands himself up better before bending down to pick his son up and places him down next to Kasey on the hospital bed.
Kasey turns her head to face Christopher, hand palm-up with the plasters laying in them for him to take, and he does so very gently as he rips the white pieces off from them before placing them gently over Kasey’s face to hide the cuts.
“Perhaps you’ll become Doctor Diaz in the future,” Kasey mutters as she studies his movements. “Think I’ll be least afraid of hospitals if I knew I’ve got the best and bravest doctor ever!”
As Bobby had same final words with the doctor, he brings himself towards the trio after confirming that Doctor Diaz has finished with placing Scooby Doo plasters on his patient’s face to tell them it be best if they all go home and clean themselves up and to rest.
(There was even a soft mention that Bear is at home waiting on her return).
The group that become bigger without Eddie and Kasey’s realisation ushered their last goodbyes, making sure everyone will be alright for the night, Karen kisses them all on the cheek, wishing them a better and restful evening, she gave Kasey a teasing squeeze on her cheeks before patting it softly, then when she came to Eddie she gives him a hug and a kiss on the cheek, but as she leaves she gives his bicep a soft squeeze as she throws him a comforting and knowing look and he watches as her eyes shift to Kasey who has now began to pull herself off the bed.
Eddie quickly comes to her aid, helping her to slide off the medical bed much easier and she thanks him, and then she tells the Diaz’s boys how they’re the best doctors she has ever had, and that she’s feeling much better now. Eddie knew she wasn’t, but he also knew that comment was more aimed at his son than to him. Kasey gives another long-lasting hug to Christopher, telling him that she will try and see him the next day and she lays a kiss to his cheek and says that if he or his dad needs anything then give her a ring and she will come.
Eddie shakes his head as he stands behind the pair, a smile tugging at his lips as he watches them, and Christopher even leans up to kiss the bandage across her nose as he wishes her a goodnight before making his way to Buck and TK who were both whining next to Vanessa and Kit (who Kasey didn’t even notice turning up) as they begged to hold Christopher again.
Kasey moves to stand with Eddie’s help and Kasey says nothing as she wraps her arms round his waist, tucking her face into his chest as she just closes her eyes. “You should go,” her voice was raspy now but Eddie found it kinda cute if he forgot the reasoning behind it. “You should go and get yourself and Chris home.”
Eddie knows he should but he also wishes Kasey was coming with them, wishing she was coming home with them to clean up and rest there, and they would turn on some shitty show as they lay on the couch to watch it, all nibbling on something easy to fill their stomachs and Chris would fall asleep first, his eyes falling shut then Eddie would feel a heavy weight on his left shoulder. He then would promise Kasey that he’ll be back as he takes Christopher to bed, tucking him in and leaving the night-light on in his bedroom before he makes his way back to Kasey, who was watching them before but now her eyes were closed and Eddie would smile softly at the sight of her, watching as she finally gains some sleep before he tucks his arms under her body and lifts her up and–
Kasey was now leaving the embrace and gives him a small smile before she makes her way to Athena who wraps her up tightly whilst whispering words of how good a nice warm shower will be for her and TK and that the heating will be on, and she is sure that hot chocolate will be made tonight too.
And then everyone was leaving, out of the medical tents and Chris was situated on Eddie’s hip once Buck and TK finally let him go, Kit and Chimney were up front, helping Buck walk with Maddie following closely behind, then there was Hen and Karen, and then Bobby (who was carrying the dirty clothes) and Vanessa with Athena and Kasey behind, her arm was wrapped motherly round her waist as she began to question Kasey that all of her weight better be on her (Athena) and she better not be taking any of it, but Kasey wasn’t listening much as her head turns to look over her shoulder at the two Diaz’s and all she does was smile at them.
              ❥๑━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━๑❥
Eddie pushes himself off the sofa as he watches some shitty show on the television, Christopher was in bed now after having a quick bath and eating something before being tackled in hugs and comforting words from his father. Eddie wasn’t expecting anything else for the evening, especially not a knock at his door at this time of night or even from what has happened all day.
And he sure wasn’t expecting to see a clean but still tired Kasey (still covered in her bandages, but they were changed to plain brown ones after her shower, at Athena’s recommendation) at his door. He looks out at the road to see headlights on, and they gave him a quick blink and he was quick to recognise it being Bobby. He then watches the car drive off before his eyes move back to the women in front of him, who gives him a small, nervous, smile.
“Can I stay here for tonight, please,” her voice was still slightly scratchy, and she swing her arms at her sides as she gazes at Eddie and all he could do was nod as he holds back his smile from growing anymore at the realisation of why she was here.
No wonder Bobby drove off without Eddie giving an answer as he knew he would say yes to Kasey. Eddie even wondered if Bobby knew how much both Christopher and Eddie wished for her to come home with them.
“Yeah – yeah, of course,” he says and at his words Kasey falls forwards, falling into his open arms that were quick to catch her. Her forehead rests against his shoulder and she rounds her tired arms around his waist whilst he brings her into a tighter embrace.
In his hold, Kasey felt saved.
They stay standing in the doorway, still embracing one another, and Eddie wondered how long they be there for, but he didn’t really mind, not as long as he had her in his arms. It was silent between the pair; well it was until Kasey spoke up again with a question Eddie was truly not expecting tonight.
“Can I get Chris’ name tattooed on me?” Kasey pulls back slightly to look at Eddie’s face, but all she saw was his knitted brows and eyes that burnt with confusion. “I know it’s crazy – we have no relation – like he isn’t even mine or he, well, he isn’t mine anything. But he was so brave Eddie, and I want to carry some of his bravery around – it–it doesn’t make any sense, forget it.” She takes a quick pause. “But he means the world to me Eddie, really, you’ve got the best kid ever, you know? And I just want to honour him more, and just carry something of him around with me everywhere I go so when I do get scared, I’ll know that Chris would want me to be brave and …I just – I care a lot about your son, and you, my god, you two mean absolutely everything to me, I don’t think you understand how important the pair of you are to me and–”
She stops with the feeling of his lips touching the top of her head.
She blinks.
“I think,” he begins as he gazes at her, eyes full of softness, “I think Christopher would really like that,” the corner of his lip tugs up even more now, “I really like the idea too. It’s sweet.”
“Really?” Kasey scrunches her nose slightly, the plaster crumpling up as she does so. “You can say no if you want.”
Eddie shakes his head. “You can get his name tattooed, I don’t mind, but thank you for asking me though.”
Kasey blinks again cause why wouldn’t she ask for his permission? “Yeah – yeah, er, always…”
“When do you want to get it done?” He questions next as they still stood in his doorway.
“Tomorrow,” she instantly says. “I’m going to get TK’s name tattooed on me too, already asked for his permission,” she ranted slightly, “do you want to come with?” Then there was a moment of silence before she shakes her head. “Wait, no, you’ll be busy, it was stupid to ask, you will probably be working or with Chris and–”
His hand finds her, intertwining their fingers together as he offers her a soft squeeze. “I don’t have a shift tomorrow,” he states once he notices that his action has stopped her panicking rant, her eyes moves to look down at their joint up hands. “Chris will be at his Abuela’s, so I’ll come with you.”
And then he leans forwards, lays another kiss on her forehead, but his lips linger by her skin, and she swears she feels him smiling when she squeezes his hand in return.

Spend The Night *ED*
Tumblr media
REQUESTED : Yes - @captainamericasmotercycle ; "could you do a cute, fluffy story with eddie diaz and prompt 3 please?"
PROMPT(S) : 3 - "Sleep at my place tonight."
---
"Can you keep it down in there?!" You yelled through your bedroom wall as you pounded your fist against it.
Your neighbor had been no a binge with his friends, or should you say bandmates. They've been practicing since 10 that morning and it was now 7:30 at night.
Your boyfriend, Eddie, was due at your place at any moment to spend his off weekend with you while Christopher was with Buck. As you plopped yourself back on your bed, your phone rang, a picture of you and Eddie popping up on the screen.
"Hey, Eds." You smiled softly, even though he couldn't see you.
"Hey, my love. There's been a change of plans." Eddie spoke calmly.
"Oh?" You hummed, sitting up on your bed.
"Yeah, Buck decided to go on a random date tonight. So, Chris will be home tonight." Eddie spoke, you could hear Chris in the background laughing.
"Oh. Well, that's okay. We always have your next weekend off." You smiled softly.
"Or.., " Eddie dragged out, "Sleep at my place." You could hear the smirk in his voice.
"I can do that." You smiled to yourself. "Let me pack a bag and I'll be there soon."
"Alright, bye my love." Eddie spoke before hanging up.
You quickly threw together a bag of clothes and everything you'd need for your weekend with your favorite boys.
Soon you were pulling up to Eddie's house and knocking on the door.
You smiled as Eddie opened the door.
"I'm ready for my sleepover with my favorite boys!" You laughed softly, holding your bag up.
Eddie laughed softly as he pulled you into a kiss.
"Well then lets get this party started." He chuckled, leading you into the house.

You’re not God (Evan Buckley)
Summary: You take Chimney’s spot in the Hero Complex episode. You are Captain Nash’s daughter, and you are dating Buck.
Words: 3K
Requested: No
Warnings or A/N: this is probably gonna do shitty but oh well. A Buck full length fic coming to your screens soon! Also comment what season Buck do you love? I love this seasons Buck the most. He's grown so much since the first season.
Tumblr media
You were standing in the middle of the apparatus bay talking to Buck and Hen about the new guy, Jonah, that was filling in for Chimney. You and Hen had worked closely with him and Hen didn’t like him all the much but you didn’t know him enough not to like him. You didn’t care enough to know him for that matter. Chimney was gonna come back sooner or later and you didn’t want to waste your energy getting to know another paramedic that was only gonna be temporary. “You’re telling me, you don’t feel that there is something wrong with this guy?”
You turned your gaze onto Buck for a second before turning it back on Hen. “I haven’t. To be honest, I hadn’t even given him a second thought. I just work with him on the shift and then as soon as we walk out of those door after shift, he’s out of my thoughts,”
“She has something better to think about,” Buck said, kissing the top of your head. “Right babe?”
“You know it,”
“Everybody upstairs. Rundown in five. I’ve got some announcements to make,” Captain Nash said, climbing up the stairs.
“You know what announcements your dad is gonna make, yn?”
“I have no clue,”
Ravi walked up to you three. “Hey, what was the deal with Eddie at the bar the other night?”
You looked at Ravin, confused. “Wait. He was there? I didn’t see him,”
Buck nodded. “I texted him. I just..I thought he was a no-show,”
“Well, I saw him in the parking lot, and he just kind of blew me off,” Ravi said walking up the stairs.
“Weird,”
You shrugged as you followed Buck up the stairs and grabbed his arm. “Wonder what’s going on,”
You finally made it upstairs and you saw Jonah standing right next to your dad. You could see Hen get tense. “Why do I get the feeling that man is one of the announcements?”
“We've had some great people fill in, but I think it's time to stop the revolving door. You all know Jonah. He's been with us for a few shifts. He's done an excellent job. And he'll be our new paramedic,”
“Damn it,” Hen said under her breath.
“Thanks, Captain. I'm really happy to be here and be a part of the team,”
“Doesn't seem so bad. He'll probably be a good partner,”
“What are you doing right now?”
“I'm looking on the bright side,”
“Well, stop it,”
You laughed quietly as Ravi asked the next question. “Who's gonna be the other one?”
“Someone you also know, just not as well,” Your dad said pointing behind you and you saw the firefighter from the other day that helped with the freeway incident. “Lucy Donato Welcome to the 118,”
-
It’s been a few hours since your dad had made the announcement. You were at the back of the rig helping Hen stock up as you saw Lucy talking to Buck. You eyed her as you handed Hen a box of supplies. “Yeah and I’m the crazy one here,”
You tore your eyes away from Lucy and Buck and placed them on Hen. “What are you talking about?”
“I’m talking about you death glaring at Lucy,”
“I still don’t know what you’re talking about,”
“She’s not gonna go after Buck. Even then Buck is crazy about you and on top of that if he cheats or breaks your heart, he’s gonna have to go through Bobby,”
“Trust me, I’m not worried about Lucy. I’m not even worried about Buck. I feel very secure with my relationship with him. Just wondering how Lucy got transferred so fast. Also, Dad’s not the one I’d worry about. Athena is the one I’d worry about,”
Hen didn’t even take a second to respond to that. “True,”
You both laughed as Jonah walked up to you two. “What are we laughing about?”
“Nothing,” Hen said walking off.
Jonah turned and looked at you. “She doesn’t like me, does she?”
“It’s not that she doesn’t like you It’s the-”
“It’s that she missing Chimney,”
“Yeah, they are two peas in a pod,”
“How about you?”
“How about me, what?”
Jonah placed his hand on your wrist and smiled. “Do you like me?”
You moved your arm back to get Jonah’s hand off you. “I don’t know you well enough to have an opinion of you,”
Jonah reached out to touch you again. You backed up a little. “We can change that,”
“I do not want to know you that well. Now, listen to this part carefully, Touch me again without my consent, I will have your ass thrown out of this firehouse before you can even realize that is happening,”
You shut the door to the rig and walked up to Buck and Lucy. “Fucking creep,”
Buck turned and looked at you. “You okay?.”
“Yeah, just Jonah tried to put the moves on me,”
Buck’s whole demeanor changed at the sound of that as he took a couple steps towards the direction of Jonah. “What? He did what?”
You placed a hand on Buck's chest to stop him. “Babe, it’s fine. I set him straight,”
“Babe? You two are dating?”
Before you could say anything, Buck beat you to it. “Yep. For the past year,”
You saw her eye your last name on your shirt. “Nash? Are you the captain’s daughter?”
“I am. So you better watch it,”
Lucy looked between you and Buck. You could see Lucy slightly freaking out. “I’m kidding. You had nothing to worry about. I’m sure you’ll be a great asset to the team,”
“Ambulance 12 Unresponsive male….”
You turned and kissed Buck. “I’ll see you in a few,”
Buck kissed the side of your face. “I love you,”
“I love you too,’”
-
It’s been a few days since Jonah and Lucy had joined the team. Jonah had been let go as Chimney and Maddie had come back. Hen was more than happy about it. It had also been a busy few days. There had been a fire at the dispatch center and your step sister was trapped in the fire along with another dispatcher. Your step sister May, was okay and safe but the other one was fine when you and Hen left her with Jonah. He had rode with her to the hospital and she had coded on the way and sadly passed away.
You were awoken by the sound of knocking at your door, you opened your eyes and saw that it was six a.m. You rolled your eyes and silently prayed that they’d go away but the knocking continued. “Ugh, who is knocking at someone’s door at six a.m?”
Buck groaned as he got up and threw on hoodie before walking down the stairs to answer the door. “Uh, hi. Is everything okay?”
“We need to ask Yn a favor,”
“Babe! Hen and Chim need to talk to you,”
You threw the blanket off yourself and threw on the shirt that Buck had worn last night over your chest. You weren’t naked persay. You had on a bra and some shorts but you were walking downstairs to talk to Hen and Chim without no shirt on. You walked downstairs as Buck was shutting the door behind them. “Sorry, we know it’s early,”
“It was even earlier when she woke me up,” Chimney said in his defense.
Buck walked around them, next to you and snaked an arm around the small of your back. “It’s okay. What’s the favor?”
“Are you still friends with that reporter?”
“Taylor? Yeah, why?”
“We were hoping that, uh, we could watch some of her footage from the call center fire,”
“I can ask her but she’s gonna ask why?”
“Theoretically, I want to see what happened before Claudette coded,”
“The dispatcher who died on her way to the hospital?”
Buck shifted on his feet. “I-Is something going on, did the family make a complaint?”
“Yeah, it’s-it’s fine, Buck,”
You nodded. “Let me go get my phone and I’ll call her,”
-
“Thank you. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I’ll let you know,” You said, hanging up the phone.
You placed your phone on the table in the dining area, grabbed your laptop, took it into the living room where the others were, and placed it on the table. “Well?”
“She said she’d send me the footage but she made me promise that if there is a story, I’d tell her,” You said opening up your laptop and then your email.
The email from Taylor was the first one on your email list and you clicked it. You sat and watched all the footage. Jonah and Claudette  were both laughing and she was fully conscious and then she just coded. “That’s weird. She seems fine,”
“Yeah…wait a minute. Can you rewind?”
You nodded and rewinded the footage until she told you to stop. Jonah was injecting something into her IV. “What do you think that is? Potassium?”
“I’m not sure,”
You and Buck looked at each other, confused. Buck looked at Hen. “O-okay, come on, guys, wh-what’s going on here?”
“We’re not sure,”
“We’re not gonna tell anyone, right?”
Buck looked at you. “Of course. Don’t worry. I never tell Taylor anything even if she asked me for it,”
“Claudette was alert and converstand. Her BP and her heart were stable.“Protocol dictates that only treatment necessary in that case is  respiratory, to treat the smoke inhalation,”
Buck was clueless as to what that meant. “Meaning?”
You sighed. “Meaning Jonah had no reason to push drugs of any kind. They’re suggesting Claudette’s death wasn’t related to her injuries,”
“Whatever drug Jonah was pushing on that video caused her heart to stop,”
“What…on-on purpose?”
“Maybe,”
“Come on, Hen, I..I-I know you didn't always like the guy, but he-he’s still one of us, you know? It cou-it could’ve just been a mistake,”
You looked at your boyfriend. "Babe,"
"What?"
Hen shook her head. "Buck, did that look like a mistake to you? He injected her with something, and she had a heart attack,"
"How-how can you be sure?"
Buck has a good heart but he placed too much hope in people.
"Claudette wasn't the first time. Other people have died on his watch under suspicious circumstances,"
"Okay, so-so, maybe he's a-he's a bad paramedic,"
"Or maybe he is a serial killer,"
"We need to show this to Cap and Athena and see what they have to say about it,"
"You'll probably see me there not long after. I'm having breakfast over there,"
-
"I'm not sure what was in that syringe but it sent her into cardiac arrest and it seems like the guy's got a history of this,"
Your dad look at the scene. "It's not that I don't believe you guys, but these are huge accusations. Do you think there's a way we can prove it?"
"Claudette's autopsy. The toxicology report is still pending. If we can get it expedited, we can see if there was anything in her blood that shouldn't have been there,"
Athena was the one who asked the next question. "You think this is some kind of angel of mercy killing? Putting people out of their supposed misery?"
"I think it's more complicated than that. This guy's bringing people to the point of death and then using his skills to bring them back. Whe-When he was a kid, he... he got to play the hero. Now he wants to play God,"
Athena looked at you who was sitting across the table from her. "Interesting way to start breakfast,"
"They woke me up at 6 am this morning,"
"I would've not answered the door,"
"I didn't. Buck did,"
Athena mouthed ah and took a sip of her coffee. You saw your dad walk back into the kitchen but Athena beat you to it before you could even think. “What did the chief say?”
“They’ve opened an investigation into Claudette’s death. Jonah’s been put on light duty pending the results,”
Hen sighed. “That's a relief. Thanks, Bobby,”
“Hen, be careful. If Jonah is who you think he is, he won’t take kindly to being exposed,”
Hen nodded. “Yeah. I better get going,”
“Why don’t you say and have breakfast with us?”
“Thank you but I really shouldn’t,”
“Okay. Be safe,”
-
“Yeah, babe. I’m on my way home now. Maybe about twenty or so minutes,”
“Okay, I love you,”
“I love you too,”
You were only supposed to stay at your dad’s house for breakfast but you ended up staying there for the entire day, helping your dad go through some of his old things. You two just talked about everything. You guys hadn’t had the chance to catch up and talk outside of work lately so you were glad for that time. After you were done at your dad’s house, it was probably about five in the evening but you remember that you needed some stuff from the store.
You were putting the items in the car when you felt a sharp pain in your neck and the next thing you knew, you were out.
HEN’S POV:
Hen slowly woke up from passing out. “Hey there, Glad you could join us,”
Hen couldn’t make out who that voice belonged to as she was still groggy. “You were out slightly longer than I expected. I guess I was just a little too generous with propofol. I’ll try to be more careful next time,”
She realized then that it was Jonah. “Why are you doing this, Jonah?”
“I guess the easiest answer is because I can. You can get anything you want on the Internet these days. Medical equipment . Drugs. THe real answer is..you gave me no choice. Snooping around, checking up on me? We're supposed to be on the same team, Henrietta. We're definitely not on the same team. Oh, I think we are. Now, you and her? I don’t think you are,”
That’s when she looked down at the table and saw you laying on the table hooked up to IVs. You were laying there unconscious. Your shirt had been ripped off you but you weren’t fully exposed.
“We don't put our patients' lives in danger just for our own ego,”
“You put your hand inside someone's chest, for Pete's sake. If that's not ego, I don't know what is,”
“The patient would have died if I hadn't…:”
Jonah had held up one finger and walked to the side where the IV was going into your arm. “One sec,”
Hen started to panic. “No, J-Jonah, please. No,”
“Relax. It's just a little adenosine,” Jonah said as he pushed the drug into your IV.
“You're stopping her heart,”
“Don't worry, I'll get it back. Nothing some epinephrine can't fix,”
Hen gasped as the monitor started to flatline. “No, no! Please, no. Oh, God. No!”
Jonah grabbed the paddles from the AED. “Guess we got to shock,” He said, shocking you.
“Oh! Come on. Come on, ynn, come on,”
The monitor starts to show normal heart rhythm again. “There's nothing like it, right? The rush of watching someone walk right up to death's door and snatching them right back? It's like being God,”
“We are not God!”
“Aren't we?”
Hen was fighting back tears as she spoke to Jonah. “Jonah, listen. Your beef is with me, okay? She has nothing to do with this. At all. She doesn’t even know anything. Plea-Please let yn go. Please,”
“Okay,” Jonah pushed more of the adenosine into your IV.
“What... No, no, no, no. Jonah,” At this point Hen was crying. She couldn’t hold them back any longer. “Jonah. Jonah, please. No, plea-please, please, Jonah. Please,”
“Oh, I thought you wanted me to let her go. My bad. Let's-let's get him back,” He said before he shocked you for the second time.
Hen was snobbing. “Yn, Come on, yn,”
She watched the monitor as the machine kept showing flatline. Jonah was watching the machine as well. “I’ve got nothing,”
Hen cried out as she watched the machine.
“Let's give it a go again. Clear,” Jonah said, shocking you for the third time.
Hen let out a breath of relief when the machine showed once again a normal heart rhythm.
“I really don't know what you see in this guy. You need a partner who's more your speed,”
That’s when she saw you starting to wake up and move around. She had to keep Jonah distracted while you were waking up. “You... You really think you're my speed? You're sloppy,”
“I'm not sloppy, don't say that,”
“Even if I wanted to do some of the horrible things, horrible things that you did, you really think I would have let myself get caught? You killed people,”
“It wasn't on purpose. They weren't supposed to die. I was gonna save 'em. I'm a hero,”
“You might have been. Once, when you were a child. But not now. All you are is a murderer now!”
Jonah got up from where he was sitting on the table, walked up to Hen and grabbed her face. “No, I'm not,”
“Then why is Yn not breathing?”
Jonah looked over at you as the machine flat lined again. Jonah let go off Hen’s face and walked over to the table and as soon as he got close to you. You shocked him with the paddle which knocked Jonah out.
Your POV:
The paramedics carried you out in a gurney just in time to hear your dad and Athena.  “Slow down, some down,”
“We need to get in there. We need to get in there,”
That’s when your dad saw Jonah, walked straight up to him and punched him square in the nose. “ You son of a bitch, I trusted you. I invited you into my house and you attacked my crew? My daughter?”
Athena pulled Bobby back from punching him again. “Enough. He's not worth any more of your time,”
Your dad noticed you and came rushing to your side. “Hey dad,” You said weakly
“Hey sweetheart, how are you feeling?”
“Like a million bucks,”
Your dad chuckled. “Thank God you guys are alive, I am so sorry about what happened,”
You didn’t say anything but Hen did. “I’m just glad he got caught, and in the act. Hopefully this evidence will be more concrete than what we were working with earlier,’”
Athena looked at Hen. “With this evidence, that man will be going away for the rest of his life. He won’t ever hurt anybody ever again,”
“Then it was worth it. How were you guys able to get the police here so fast? I thought we were out here on our own,”
“Karen called, told us everything she knew. You know, you're a lucky woman to have a wife like that,”
“Don't I know it,”
“We're gonna contact Karen and Buck, let 'em know what hospital they're taking you to, and we'll be right behind you,”
-
You were sitting on a hospital bed with wires attached to you so they could monitor your vitals. “I don't think I need to tell you how lucky you are,” The doctor said, walking in.
“I know ma’am,”
“We're keeping you overnight for observation, Ms. Nash,”
“I figured this as much,”
“We just need to make sure you don't have arrhythmias or any other permanent damage. You'll spend the night on the cardiac floor, then we'll send you home with a Holter monitor for a couple days,”
“Thank you,”
It wasn’t long after the doctor left that you saw Buck running into the room you were in. “Yn! He said, running to you and pulling you into a hug.
“Buck,” You said, wrapping your arms around the back of his neck.
“You’re okay. You’re safe,” He said just low enough to where only you could hear.
“I am,”
He loosen his grip on you and placed his forehead against yours. “Wh-When  you didn’t show up, I called your-your dad and he told me what happened and I-I just- I don’t know what I would’ve done it I lost you ,”
“Hey, you’re not going to lose me. Listen to me, you’re not,”
Buck kissed you for a second before wrapping his arms around you again. “I love you,”

911: Buck/Reader
This wasn't requested, but I've been rewatching 911 and wanted to write for it.
Hope you like it!
Everyone is way of the job. It’s a rule for first responders. However, every month, it seems as if even more chaos ensues; the full moon. Whether it’s because everyone’s blood pressure spikes, but it feels like more people are seeing red, acting on impulse or just acting without a single care for themselves or anyone else.
As soon as the ambulance came to a stop, I took a deep breath. Hen parked the ambulance, took another look at me and laughed. I rolled my eyes but accepted a pack of wet wipes that she handed to me.
“Don’t get blood on the handles.” She told me.
“I need to shower, and maybe soak my clothes in bleach. Tell Cap I’ll get the report finalised after.” I used a wipe to clean my hands of any remaining blood from our last call.
“I’ll let him know, go get cleaned up.” Hen got out the ambulance and I followed her out.
“Whoa,” I heard as everyone saw me and Hen got out the ambulance. I looked up at the balcony as Eddie and Chimney stared at me. “Who died?”
I sighed and pinched the bridge of my nose. Hen saw my reaction and went up the stairs to explain the events of our call.
“Are you okay?” I looked over at Buck whose eyes were wide with concern.
“Yeah, I’m fine. It’s not my blood.” I assured him with a smile. “Hen will fill you in on the gory details. I cringed at my own words.
“Okay, good to know.” Buck nodded and assessed me once more to make sure I was okay.
“Buck, I’m fine,” I told him before heading for the showers.
What felt like an eternity of scrubbing, I left the showers clean and free of blood. The shower itself took extra time to be cleaned and sanitized. Once I was in clean clothes, I made my way to the kitchen where everyone was sitting. Hen smiled when she I was coming to join them.
“There she is,” Chimney announced. “Nice to see that there’s no blood on you.”
“I think I left the scene red-handed.” I joked. Buck smiled and sat up straighter letting me join him on the sofa. The firefighter regarded me with a look that I couldn’t quite figure out.
“Please tell me that there isn’t any blood still on me.”
“Nah, you’re good. Hen was telling us about how you stopped a guy from bleeding out.” There was a smile of admiration on his face and he nudged me with his elbow.
“Oh yeah,” I nodded. “It was weird though. It looked like he was bitten.”
“Oh, he was.” Hen waved her phone and handed it to me.
I took it and began reading the report. As I did, I realised Buck was reading it over my shoulder. I leaned back and angled the phone to let him read with me.
“Great, so aside from all the usually stupidity, we have the Full Moon Biter. People need to stop smoking bath salts…” I trailed off when I noticed Hen was watching me and Buck. Buck whose face was very close to my own.
It was nice siting close to Buck, it was comfortable. I was close enough that I could still smell the aftershave and body spray that he had used in the morning. We were comfortable enough that nobody else sat next to him. And allowed me to take that space.
“Didn’t you guys deal with something like this last month?” Buck asked leaning back into the sofa as if he were suddenly aware of our proximity.
“Something similar. Except that guy wasn’t pretending to be Dracula.” I shrugged my shoulders.
Hen left the two of us and said something about needing to call Karen. Chimney and Eddie were off doing their own thing. That left Buck and I sitting on the sofa. I sighed and leaned back. Buck leaned next to me and watched my face.
“I should’ve said I was sick today or something.” I let my head fall back, falling on Buck’s arm. I stared at the ceiling as Buck began talking.
“Eh, everyone feels that way. I mean, you saved someone, so that’s good right?”
“I guess. I just acted on instinct.”
“Your instinct saved someone; you stopped a guy from bleeding out with your own hands!” Buck nudged me and I couldn’t help but smile.
“Yeah, I did good. I also could’ve landed a role in Carrie.” I laughed.
I turned my head to look at Buck. I didn’t realise how close he was to me again until my lips brush against his.
The two of froze, my breath caught in my throat. I closed the gap between us and pressed my lips to his. Buck deepened the kiss, his hand cupping my cheek keeping me close to him.
Then the alarms went off, the announcement calling for the fire truck and the paramedics to respond to an MVC.
The two of us pulled apart from each other, breathless. I looked at Buck who was at a loss for words.
“We, we should go.” I got up and Buck followed, the two of us running to join the others for the call. I got in the ambulance with Hen and she pulled out of the house. Sitting in the seat, I looked out the window, my heart still racing and my lips felt electric and tingled.
“You okay?” Hen asked glancing over as I gently touched my lips. “You haven’t said anything since we left. Did something happen between you and Buck?”
I looked at her. “I kissed Buck. And he kissed me back. And I want to kiss him again.” A laugh escaped me and Hen joined me.
“I knew it!”
Before I would tell her to stop laughing, we had arrived at the scene and went into business, the laughter was left in the ambulance for later.
There were three cars that had crashed into each other. The reason was because two people had run into the road causing one person to suddenly slam on the brakes. That then led to the collision.
Hen and I ran to the pedestrians lying in the road as the others went to check on everyone in the cars. I knelt on the ground and turned to look at the victim. Before I could begin my assessment, I saw more blood than what is expected for these situations. My patient had blood on his face and neck.
“Hen, I think-”
Before I could finish altering Hen, the victim grabbed my shoulders and pulled me towards him, his teeth clamping down on my neck.
I screamed and then everything happened so quickly. There was yelling and I felt someone pull me away from the biter. I began feeling faint as I was sat on the ground.
“(Y/N), hey, look at me.” Eddie caught my attention and made me look at his face.
“(Y/N), we need to flush the bite, it doesn’t look like he got any of the arteries but you are going to bleed out if we don’t get you covered up.” Bobby told me. I nodded to show I understood, not trusting my voice. “Buck, stay on the vehicles!”
“Cap!” Buck yelled back in protest. He was holding his helmet in his hand as he watched to see if I was okay.
I winced as felt the saline against the open wound.
“Okay, we need to get you transported. They’re going to have to make sure nothing was transmitted.” Eddie told me.
“Gotcha,” I let him pull me to my feet. The next thing I knew was that I was in the back of an ambulance. It wasn’t one from the 118 so Eddie was sitting with me checking on my vitals despite my protests.
“I really should’ve called in sick.” I groaned as Eddie peeked under the dressings.
“Yeah, Buck probably wouldn’t have been too happy about that though.” Eddie gave me a smile and my face grew hot.
“I’m guessing he told you?”
“Yep, and he’s been wanting to do that for a while.”
I laughed. “Really?”
“He likes you, but it’s Buck. He’s all action.”
Before we could continue, the ambulance stopped at the hospital. Eddie helped me out and let me get taken by nurses ready to take blood and perform tests. I was put on a bed in the emergency room and I put my head back. The wound was cleaned and I was left waiting, still shaking from the events. Then there was familiar chatter as the other members of the 118 arrived. I looked over at them and made eye contact with Buck. He looked relieved to see I was okay and rushed over.
“Hey,” I smiled at him.
“Hey, are- are you okay?” Buck asked as I pulled my knees close to make space.
“Yeah, a little shaken.” I held up my hand and showed Buck He chuckled and took my hand, giving it a comforting squeeze. “I think everything should be okay, I didn’t hear anything about the other guy that they brought in. Did they find out what the biter was on?”
“Uh, I think they said it was bath salts.”
“Are you kidding?”
Buck laughed again and I saw his gaze was on my face. It travelled from my eyes to my lips.
“So, earlier at the firehouse.” Buck began.
“Yeah, I talked to Eddie,”
“Right. Well, I want to let you know that I meant what I said.” He assured me.
“Good. I feel the same way.”
“Really?” Buck asked almost incredulously. “Well, how about after shift, I take you on a real date.”
“I would like that,” I smiled and leaned towards him.
“I saw that there’s a new vampire movie coming out.
“You wish Buck.” I quickly looked past and saw that everyone was looking towards us. Somehow, Hen managed to get everyone’s attention and led them out the room. Buck, looking over his shoulder and realising the same thing, turned back to look at me. There was a smile on his face as he cupped my cheek and brought his lips to mine.

you were grateful for days like these, where the sun shone brightly against the material of your curtains. the sound of light snoring beside you making a smile tug at the corners of your lips.
looking over to find a very asleep evan, half of his face smooshed into the pillow he laid on.
there weren't many times you actually get to see him this relaxed, only when he slept or when he was just simply in your company.
as much as he was your big strong boyfriend, he reminded you more of a golden retriever.
you took this time that you had to trace over his features with your fingertips. starting by lightly running your fingers through his unkempt hair then making your way over to his cheeks.
your thumbs gently brushing against the skin, going over a few faded scars in the process, moving over his prominent smile lines.
ugh if there was anything you loved the most it was this mans smile, it was so contagious and when you're the one to make him smile? oh god, you felt like you were going to turn into a puddle right then and there.
you had decided you had done enough admiring and it was time for him to wake up, so you did what you do best and attacked him with tiny little kisses all over his face, starting with his forehead, then his nose, to his cheeks and lastly next to his lips.
"buck..." you whispered close to his ear, he groaned at the loss of contact, but smiled when he heard your voice but still didn't open his eyes.
"why'd you stop? i was enjoying that," he whined as he stretched, making you laugh. quickly giving into his request by lightly stroking up and down his arm, making him sigh happily.
finally opening his eyes looking at you, "hi baby,"
"hi hon, how'd you sleep?"
"really good except the fact that i was literally melting last night since we're both always so warm, but i didn't want to let go of you, you're so comfy."
he looped the arm that wasn't underneath his pillow around you, bringing you even closer to him, if that was even possible. so you were now truly sandwiched between evan and the bed.
you loved the days the two of you both had off work, since it meant that you didn't have to leave the bed. just lay there wrapped up in each others arms, kissing and doing other very...productive activities too.
lifting your hand back on his cheek as you looked at his face, your thumb once again finding itself caressing your lovers cheek stopping as you leaned in, pressing a soft peck to his lips.
a grin stretching on his own as you pulled away only far enough to dip your face into the crook of his neck.
"i really love you, buck."
"i love you too sweetheart."
and you proceeded to do just that into the later years of your lives, as you fought fires and saved others together. as you scolded each other when either one of you landed yourselves in the hospital for a couple of weeks or longer. no matter how mad you were, you'd always love one another.

2018, Haddonfield, Illinois
Travesty broke through the town of Haddonfield again. It appeared that nothing could kill the man named Michael Myers. Yet man seemed like an oversimplification. Someone who could take hit after hit. That wasn’t a man, he was the eternal of evil, and he was wreaking havoc on Halloween night again.
And what better way than for you to spend your Halloween. Slumping it with a nice cold beer at Mic’s Bar. Watching the oh so talent your neighbors and friends possess. You raised your beer to the previous girl group who finished up. Applause rumbled up the bar. You took another sip of your beer then checked your phone. No messages from Buck yet. He usually checked up at this hour of the night, but you wouldn’t hold it against him. His job required his full attention. “Another round Y/n?” The bartender caught your attention. You sighed and put your phone down.
“Keep them coming!”
“Ladies and gentleman, I’d like to introduce our next Thespian, now I used to bust this guy’s balls when we were kids, but he is all grown up now, and he’s become the most captivating…bird whistler.” Lonnie Elam ran off stage and then walked on, Tommy Doyle.
“Hey everybody.”
You turn around on the stool and rest your back against the counter. If you were gonna stay here, then you were gonna enjoy the most of it.
“Uhh Lonnie put me up to this shit.” Tommy adjusted the mic stand to his liking. “I’m not gonna whistle for ya…instead I’m gonna tell you a story.”
“Ghost and Goblins!”
You chuckled at the girl who shouted out. That got everyone to laugh.
“Any of you know the story about Haddonfield’s Boogeyman?” When he got no reply he continued. “Too young to give a shit, too drunk to remember?”
It was silent. Yet he kept going.
“Forty years ago, a madman escaped from a mental hospital. It was the night before Halloween and three teenage girls were walking home from Haddonfield High. They had sightings of…a ghost-like figure creeping right through our town. A man in a white mask, or was it more than a man…” A shiver ran down your spine as you pulled down your long sleeve shirt. “He was watching them. Before the night was over, three people would be murdered. And the house next door, there was a babysitter, and a young boy and a young girl, and they were brutally attacked by this stalker. Who had a power, beyond any mortal man.” Whispers and chatter arose amongst everyone. “My name is Tommy Doyle…and I was that young boy.” Gasp of disbelief could be heard in the crowd. “So please join me in commemorating the victims and the survivors of Michael Myers.” You brought your hands together to clap along with everyone. It was touching. “Now we have the lovely Miss Lindsey Wallace, her babysitter Amy Brackett was executed that night. Now we have Miss Marion Chambers, she survived an assault. We have Lonnie Elam.” Tommy took the big spotlight and shined it down on each three of them. “Lonnie survived a face to face encounter.” Your eyes grew big. Your parents and friends always told you it was a myth. You were one of those “I gotta see it to believe it” types. Safe to say you’ve never encountered Michael Myers. Not really sure what you’d do or how’d you react if you did, but hearing other people survive him, it scared you half to death.
Yet you wouldn’t know that the only reason they survived was because they were children at the time, and Michael Myers never killed children.
“It’s Halloween night in Haddonfield, when terror is supposed to be fun…” Tommy stared into the crowd. “When we hide behind masks, and we pretend we aren’t who we are. Is he real…who knows? Who’s next? Maybe not tonight, maybe not tomorrow, but the Boogeyman is coming for me, and he’s coming for you, but he’s not gonna get us. Not this time! Because we will never succumb to fear. This is for your Laurie! Wherever you are!”
You grabbed your drink and raised it up in salute to this Laurie chick. You gulped down the rest of your drink and asked Brian for another one. “Brian can I have one more?” You raised your pointer finger.
“That makes three now…and you drove here right?” He asked you.
“Mhmm.”
He scoffed and came back with-
“Water? I asked for a beer…”
“And I need a raise for taking care of you careless drinkers, but you know what…”
“What?” You laughed rolling your eyes.
“Life’s a bitch like that.” You pouted and traced the rim of the glass. “Drink your water!” He gestured to the glass in front of you.
“Alright, alright.”
-
“Copy that. Utilities are being shut down!”
Buck slammed his shoulder into a door of the house looking around and calling out for any survivors.
“We got a gas fed fire in here!” Buck spoke into his walkie.
His partner that was with him gestured to him to continue moving forward. “Ten-four. Stand by!”
“Copy!” Buck dragged the heavy hose then released the water. Hoping to reduce the amount of fire that was spreading like crazy.
“Assignment complete! Utilities are disengaged.”
“Copy! Eyes on the roof. Watch out.” Buck warned as some of the wood from the floor was starting to break. “With me!”
“Command ladder 13, do you copy?”
As he kept walking further into the house the radio chatter became indistinctive. He was worried he was missing something.
“This is Buck with Engine 118, I didn’t quite catch that!”
Nothing could be heard but the loud crashing that came from behind him. He whipped around and walked closer to the edge.
“Mayday, mayday, mayday, we have a firefighter down. There’s been a structural collapse. We have a firefighter that fell through. I repeat we have a firefighter down, over!” He peered down. “Brenton you okay?”
“M-My air supply is busted.” He then pulled his emergency alert button on his portable radio.
“Radio silence, we have a mayday alert!”
“I’m gonna get you out of there, okay? Just hang tight alright.” Buck called out to him. Brenton called out to his radio. “This is Brenton with Engine 8. There’s been a structural collapse. M-My air supply is compromised. PASS alarm has been activated…Oh shit!” Brenton’s eyes widened as he saw a masked figure standing not more than a few feet away from where he lay.
“Come in, Engine 13, Engine 118.”
“There’s somebody else down here!” Brentom exclaimed as the man walked over to him. He was then kicked in the face making him head his head against the ground.
“Brenton!” Buck watched with wide eyes as the man started beating the shit out of him. “Do you copy?”
Brenton felt his world stop as finally realized who hovered over him. It was Michael Myers. He cried out as he saw the pick ax being raised. “Buck run!”
“No!” Buck cried out for the man, but stumbled back as Michael turned around to look up at him. Buck didn’t think for a second to get the hell out of there.
-
It had been some time late in the evening when every phone in that damn bar started going off and chimming.
“Oh my god!” Marion gasped. “Tommy look, hey turn it up!”
Brian turned the Tv on, and what popped up on the screen had turned out to be your worst nightmare yet.
“…at the service station earlier today. This evening four bodies were discovered in three homes along the same residential street. Residents of North Haddonfield are on high alert. Officials are investigating.” The newsported announced. The man followed up with a report about a house fire, but what was said about a huge massacre of firefighters made your heart plummet to your feet.
“Hey isn’t Buck on that call?” Brian pointed out to you.
Your glass shattered to the floor as you stood up grabbing your coat and keys. “Oh my god!” You felt like you were gonna throw up.
“Hey it’s not safe out there.” The man Tommy called after you. “Y/n!”
“It’s not safe anywhere!” You pushed your way through people to get to the door.
“Y/n, be careful!” Brian called out after you.
-
“Got a goddamn massacre on our hands.” Sheriff Baker stood up from peering inside of the car with a decapitated head inside. “Graham.”
“Yes sir!”
“Establish a perimeter.”
“Copy that!”
Sheriff Bakker walked around the car to fully inspect the blood shed before him. Firefighters dropped dead on the lawn. Heads bashed into, you could hardly even recognize them anymore. “Motherfucker!”
When you got to the location you had quickly put the car in park. The car rolled a centimeter as you got out. You looked at all the chaos, mostly seeing officers, and…
“S-Sheriff Barker!” You ducked under the ‘do not cross’ tape line and ran towards the tragic scene before you.
“Attention, all responders. Be advised we have a violent criminal at large, armed and dangerous.” Graham spoke into his megaphone. “We will deploy all units of frontline and tactical officers to search the area. This fugitive is on foot…and his name is Michael Myers!”
You stumbled back seeing the mess Michael left behind. All what once was the boogeyman used to scare children to go sleep or eat their veggies was now a reality. None of the firefighters were spared, and if that were the truth then that meant….You were pulled out of your daze feeling hands lightly push you away from the scene.
“Y/n, I’m gonna need you to step back, you can’t be here right now.”
“Is my fiance here? I need to know if Buck’s here?” You brushed past him trying to look for him.
“Y/n please-”
“H-Has anyone seen Evan Buckley? First responder Evan Buckley! He’s with Engine 118. Please, has anyone seen my fiancé!” You frantically looked around, shouting and trying to get the attention of any of the officers around you. Your breathing was growing uneven with every swivel of a turn and whip of your head you did.
“Evan!” You cupped your mouth glancing over at the dead first responders. “Oh g-god…” You almost threw up at the scene. Dead wasn’t even the correct term to describe the horrid scene before you. You didn’t even want to imagine that Evan could be amongst the bodies. “Evan!” You shouted out again. “Evan-“
“Y-Y/n?”
You turned around and let out a broken sob. There he was. He wasn’t dead, he wasn’t dead. You kept repeating to yourself. The love of your life wasn’t dead. You ran over to him. When you reached him, you didn’t know how to grab him, whether or not to tighten your grip on him or wrap your legs around him like your life depended on it. You didn’t know. You pulled him in close. Your hand curling around the back of his head of hair. His face falling into the crook of your neck.
“Oh my god!” You thanked whoever the hell was listening to you. “I thought you were dead. I thought he killed you. A-Are you hurt?” You examined him for any injuries. Buck shook his head no.
“I’m okay, I promise. I hid in the woods as soon as he killed the captain.” He whimpered into your neck. “I-I didn’t do anything, I didn’t help anyone. I just ran like a coward…” It was your turn to shake your head.
“No, Evan no. You’re human okay, those were just your instincts kicking in. I think anyone would have ran. But if I’m thinking selfishly…” A tear fell down your cheek. “I’m glad you did, I’m glad you didn’t stay rooted to one place.” You nodded furiously. “I’m glad you’re right here in front of me. I’m so glad!”
“I was scared.” He shook his head sitting at the back of the ambulance. “I couldn’t breathe, and then he came out of the burning house…picking us off one by one. I didn’t think I was going to see you again.” You reached forward and cupped his face. He looked exhausted. You turned your hand and placed the back of it against his forehead. He was sweaty and warm.
“Let’s go home.” Buck sighed his head falling forward against your chest. “Please.”
“W-We can’t.” Your voice cracked. “He’s still out there.” You were trying to stay calm for you and for him. Yet your heart that was practically beating out your chest told you otherwise.
“Five years.” Buck said out of the blue. He scoffed then chuckled, shaking his head.
“What?”
“I’ve never seen him in Haddonfield for five years. Each year on Halloween for five years, he’s shown up and killed people.” He looked down at his lap. “You don’t really start believing the stories they tell you until you see the blood and the bodies on the ground and when you finally do. You start realizing there’s a pattern. One after the other, bodies start dropping, people go missing from a party….and there’s nothing you can do. I’m supposed to save people, but lately…there hasn’t been a whole lot of that.” A tear fell down his head.
“You’re not invincible, Evan Buckley.” You half-heartedly laughed as you caressed his birthmark on his left eye. “A firefighter, yes, but you act like you have more than nine lives. You can’t keep over exerting yourself because one day you’re gonna push too far, and something is gonna shove back. I’m scared of what that day will feel like. I am. I adore how much you love this job, and I love you for being the caring and loving person you are.”
“But?” He looked up at you, frowning a bit.
“I can’t stop you from running into a burning building…I knew the minute that I met you what I was signing up for. I can’t stop you, but I can tell you I can’t bear to lose you. You’re too important to me.” You pressed your head against his.
“I can’t lose you either.” He turned his head and pressed his lips against yours. You placed your hands on his cheeks trying to cherish the moment while it lasted since tonight was still going on, and Michael was on a killing spree. “We can’t stay here, we have to go somewhere safe.”
“Where else would we even go?” You looked back at the blood bash. Covers being draped over the dead firefighters. You shivered and focused on Buck’s touch.
Buck stopped for a second and thought about it. Then it looked like a lightbulb went off inside his head.
“There’s always the fire station. He’s never really gone there over the time I’ve lived here. We can try there.”
“As long as I don’t look like them…I’m all in.”
“Nothing’s gonna happen to you, not on my watch okay?”
“I trust you.” You nodded and took his hand. He got up and you guys walked over to your car.

Not sure if requests are open but I'd love something where a pregnant reader drops her keys in a car park and asks buck to help her pick them up when he's walking past and it's like love at first sight for both of them. Buck doesn't care at all that she's pregnant (baby daddy not in the picture)
Love at First Sight
(It’s not perfect but I didn’t want you to wait any longer)
You had not been dating Luke long when you got pregnant. When you told him he ghosted you. Thats how you ended up in the hospital parking garage alone, and 6 months pregnant, looking down at your fallen keys.
“Here let me help you” you heard a voice say, a man jogged over to you and picked up your keys.
“Here ya go” he said with a charming grin.
“Thank you, your my hero” you joked.
He watched as he studied your left hand.
“So you waiting for your husband?” He asked.
“No, no husband”
“Boyfriend?” He asked again
“Not one of those either” you said. He smiled a little.
“Evan Buckley, but everyone calls me Buck” he said extended his hand.
“Y/n l/n” you said shaking hands.
“I don’t know if you would maybe want to get lunch sometime” he said nervously.
“Sure, I’d love that” you handed him your phone to put his number into. You then texted him so he would have yours.
“Cool” he said. Something about this man made you feel whole. It made you feel something you hadn’t felt in a long time. You knew just from that short encounter that he was the one for you.
