This or That?Away From Home Festival Live Performance Version!
thank you @seasurfacefullofclouds1 for tagging me!!
It’s been 2 weeks since the AFH Streaming Event!!! Which means that everyone has been watching the concert or listening to audio rip offs (with artist’s permission 😌) everyday for the last 14 days (I sure have been!)
So now comes the time to expose your thoughts on the performance!
Put in bold your preferred song (live version), and then tag 3 people to play!
Best Cover: Through the Dark - Drag Me Down - 7 - Beautiful War - Little Black Dress
- still haunted by the very first time we saw louis sing beautiful war, i was in sync with the emotions he conveyed, will always be my favourite.
Best Acoustic Song: Only The Brave - Perfect Now - Too Young
- otb is a feeling. the atmosphere shifts when louis sings otb, his voice and his words envelope everyone who's watching - just like a security blanket; a safe space. even if you're sitting in the furthest corner of the earth and watching otb live via a shitty live stream it makes you feel proud and safe.
Best Rock Song: Kill My Mind - 7 - Fearless
- kmm will always be super special to me, being the first song after tou :( i love how louis enjoys this song and how reckless he gets on stage jumping off stage and such. i think when the tour finally happens kmm is going to give us dancer louis. fearless is the soundtrack to my life, can't imagine my life without her.
Best Sad Song: Two of Us - Beautiful War - Change
- one life for the two of us- very powerful line and i love those little laughs and chuckles of his during the performance. once again showing us his heart and strength, how much he values Jay and carries her with him in everything beyond the scope of his career. crying already.
Best “Faith in the Future” Song: We Made It - Just Hold On - Through the Dark - DLIBYH
- a total badass statement when he came on stage, first live show after everything, in his own festival which is completely curated by him and opened with "yeah we made it" in front of 1000s of his fans. yeah i love her
Best Crowd Interaction: Always You - Defenceless - Fearless - Through the Dark
- LOUDER!
Cover/Live Version That Should Get a Studio Version: Beautiful War - Copyx3 - Fearless - Drag Me Down - 7- Change
- please be merciful and give us the studio version louis.
Song That Should Make It Out of the Setlist: Habit (this is a joke, but if you have a song that you would like to see go, type it here):
- too young, little black dress, jho yes. please take it away. i also feel like he would take them away after lt2
brb going to rewatch the festival!

End of Year This or That:
Louis Tomlinson Edition
Just Hold On or Don't Let It Break Your Heart
= This first one is difficult because JHO was the first complete song Louis sang by himself and so will always have a special place in my heart for that reason. DLIBYH is my choice though. The uplifting message in these songs, and especially DLIBYH, always make me feel hopeful, which is what Louis’ entire existence does for me.
Back To You or Miss You
= Miss You was a real experience when I first heard it and still is. I love pop-punk vibes and this song was cool and fun and yet also bittersweet below all that. Louis has a real gift with the bittersweet feelings beneath the surface, I feel. And Louies really feel the sentiment of missing Louis so there’s that too 😅
Just Like You or Only The Brave
= Has to be OTB. The song means a lot to me and I love the way Louis sings it. The mic-drop at the end was great too and it was a really interesting way to close the album. Though Louis’ pre-Walls songs definitely have sentimental value for me because they kept me going and hoping for Louis’ debut solo album.
Fearless or Defenceless
= Yeah, I really can’t choose with this one. It can depend on my mood: do I want Louis to softly sing ‘I just want to be loved’ and to be so brave and open and yet again being beautifully vulnerable, or do I want the slight admonishment of ‘Then you should feel better than ever / But you know as well as I, it’s all lies’ and the way he talks about being strong enough to get it wrong, which I think is such an inspiring lyric?
Always You or Habit
= AY wins here. That first snippet was a great introduction to the song and I have loved it since 😊
Too Young or We Made It
= I love the spirit of WMI. ‘Yeah, 'cause we made it, underestimated and always underrated / Now, we're saying goodbye, waving to the hard times’ - I want Louis to be able to wave goodbye to the hard times, and the nostalgia inherent in this song is a treat for the ears.
Kill My Mind or Walls
= Walls is one of my favourite songs. I love it, so much. I completely understand why Louis named the album after it. And the MV is fantastic and iconic. And Louies singing it back to Louis is so special and beautiful and made it even better as an experience - that connection is just something that gets me every time (it’s what I look for in artists and in music) and I always think of that now when I hear this song.
Perfect Now or Two of Us
= TOU just always gets me. I was so sad and heartbroken for him when Louis had his losses and the emotion here is lovely and brave. His vulnerability is a gift and something I feel privileged to be let in to, to experience this song with his beautiful voice guiding me through. The lyrics are beautiful and affecting and the emotion behind it is so clear. If I had to choose a least favourite song on the album, it would be Perfect Now, though since it’s Louis’ voice singing the song - and singing it beautifully, those “My, oh my”’s are like catnip to me, especially live - I still listen to the song a lot.
Copy of a Copy of a Copy or Change
= This one is really difficult because they are both fantastic and amazing and songs I can’t get out of my head and they are both queens, yes, but I can’t go past COACOAC, which just might be my favourite song of Louis’. The first time I heard it, I got chills and I just wish he would release it as a single or something, so all the times I listen to it would count towards his streaming/buying numbers.
Beautiful War or 7
= Difficult to choose. Yet again, it can depend on my mood. The way he sings: ‘I need another year alone’ is fantastic and I feel it deep in my gut so maybe 7 edges out Beautiful War? He sounds incredible on both of these songs though, and I prefer his cover’s to the original but I am in love with Louis’ voice so I wouldn’t expect anything else.
Drag Me Down or Through The Dark or Little Black Dress
= It’s been said but it bears repeating: TTD honestly does feel like such a connecting song between Louis and his Louies. It’s a beautiful experience with Louis’ heavenly voice, and it does feel like he is singing that song to me as a Louie. That connection is so important and this song encapsulates that feeling. Special mention to DMD, though, for the way he owned a song which I heard a lot of when it first came out due to its radio play, but never with enough of Louis’ voice - seeing/hearing Louis own this song as a solo artist is a fantastic experience.
Live From London or Away From Home Festival
= this one feels particularly unfair because they were both such fantastic moments for Louis and his career, but AFHF was his baby and he looked so happy and confident up there on the stage. He was high off of the energy of people there to see him, to see Louis Tomlinson as a solo artist, and it was amazing and beautiful and just proved how much he belongs up there as a solo artist. I already knew, of course, but you could see that Louis believed it that night as well and that means the world to me. It was a true highlight of the year.
Thank you for the tag @seasurfacefullofclouds1 👍 I actually enjoyed sitting there to think about which songs I preferred, which songs got to me more. Walls is one of my favourite albums - it’s Louis Tomlinson’s long-awaited debut album! - and I adore it. It was the last album I listened to in 2021 and the first album I listened to in 2022.
Happy New Year, everyone!

I was looking at other people’s reactions to walls and it’s message and I think it’s about Louis managing to find his own feet after Harry hurt him. Like KMM is about how he’s the only one Louis can think about; DLIBYH is about him convincing himself that he’s allowed to move on; TOU is about his mum, yes, and I don’t want to minimise the grief he went through when losing her, but I also feel like it’s Louis’ first time writing a song that’s not about Harry; {*}
{*} WMI reminds me of the way that some people seem to get it right first time and L being almost jealous of that; Too Young is about his experience with love and trying to think that if he gave up on their relationship then he was giving into all of the people who said that they couldn’t be together; Walls is about him realising that he was not letting Harry own up to his mistakes and blaming himself and leaving Harry for the first time {*}
{*} Habit is about him coming back to and forgiving Harry after the first time they broke up; Always You is about him trying to fit into H’s world, who is always leaving him behind for his celebrity friends; Fearless is him coming to grips with the idea of being his own person; Perfect Now is him trying to keep up to H’s demands (I’m thinking through all of the different fashion themes, ideologies and celebrity circles) throughout the years {*}
{*} Defenceless is about him realising how toxic and one-sided their relationship was; Only the Brave was him leaving H for good. I think the next songs that he will release are going to be very interesting to listen to because they might conclude this storyline.
Hi there,
Thanks for the message, but Louis had said that this album was about “Me, I’m the storyline,” where you have made it all about Harry. With due respect, the album isn’t an AU. It isn’t a fanfiction to slot in fanfiction tropes. This album was written by real songwriters, about real experiences in real life. In the last five years, Louis has lived a much wider life than merely his relationship to Harry.
There is often more than one metaphor at work in Louis’ songs. Habit is about an addiction to the stage— about wanting to pursue a career in performance, even if Louis might fail. Always You could have been a song written to be late summer (2017) hit — predicated on Elounor’s relationship being reunited. We Made It is a fairytale— Louis’ wishful thinking for a happy ending. Too Young is a reminiscence about having one’s romantic and professional life viciously manipulated, but being too young and innocent to see the manipulation and too powerless to do anything about it.
And Walls... is definitely NOT about self-blame. Walls, the title song, is about the obstructions and barriers in both Louis’ career and love, and realizing that he put up with these barriers because he loved too deeply— when the love was never worth it in the first place. Walls represents an epiphany, a breakthrough, that he could let it all go.
