I'm very obsessed with the table scene in ep 4 - or the tray scene more likely, that was fucking iconic (though upon rewatch it makes me extremely sad for Vegas omg) - and how Pete is rarely shown when the cousins talk.

Pete is only focused on when he's with the rest of the bodyguards bantering and when Vegas arrives, in which my beautiful baby son has the balls to show Vegas the table of Kinn in a very-but-not-so subtle "pls get the fuck out of here Khun Vegas" manner. After that, Vegas literally pushes him out of frame, the show essentially telling us that "You're not an important character, stay in the background while the main characters are speaking". Ffs, Arm and Pol get shown their reactions to what Vegas is saying but not Pete, never Pete.

And it blows my mind because in one or two instances, after Vegas speaks, you see Porsche literally looking at Pete, as a way to make sense of wtf is happening in front of him or as a way to express his discomfort and it's logical because it's Pete who first showed Porsche some compassion in the main family, who helped him learn things and adapt to his new environment.

We, as an audience get glimpses of Pete's behaviour during the talk and, from what I remember, it's twice: once when Vegas mentions the auction for the first time, in which Pete is shown pretending to eat while he doesn't, and a second time when Tankhun hits Vegas with the tray, I'm which Pete jumps in surprise, the chopsticks pointing upward in a fighting stance (there's a wonderful meta post about Pete's flinches in this scene, I love it so much). Other than that, absolutely nothing until Vegas leaves and Tankhun goes to hit him again and boom, the camera focuses on Pete again, full bodyguard mode on, until fading in the background behind Tankhun once more.

The direction in this scene and of Pete's character is astounding and I have so much respect for the BOC team for bringing this together.

I know I don’t owe any of you anything but I still felt compelled to write about my long term absence. And I feel far enough away from the dangerous spot I was in to be able to make this comic. I have a therapist now, and she agreed that making this could be a very cathartic gesture, and the start of properly leaving these thoughts behind me. I am still, at seemingly random times, blindsided by fleeting desires to kill myself. They’re always passing urges, but it’s disarming, and uncomfortable. I worry sometimes that my brain’s spent so long thinking only about suicide that it’s forgotten how to think about anything else. Like, now that I've opened that door for myself, I'll never be able to fully shut it again. But I’m trying my best to encourage my mind in other directions. We'll see how that goes.

I am still donating all proceeds from my store to Palestinian causes. So far, I've donated over $15K, not including donations coming from my own pocket or the fundraising streams which jointly raised around $10K. In the time since I made my initial post about where this money would be going, the focus has shifted from aid organisations to directly donating to escape funds.

If you'd like to do the same, you can look at Operation Olive Branch, which hosts hundreds of Palestinian escape funds or donate to Safebow, which has helped facilitate the safe crossing and securing of important medical procedures for over 150 at-risk palestinians since the beginning of the genocide.

I think one of the biggest tragedies of Laios & Falin and their relationship is how much his actions impact her life. But like. Specifically how much they WOULDN’T impact her life as much if they weren’t both stuck in such a shitty abusive situation.

This part of the Falin-tries-makeup daydream hour comic is what got me thinking about it again because truly it just... it seems like such a like an offhand comment that I'm sure Laios didn't mean to be cruel or anything. That's just like. A little kid not thinking about what they are saying. ESPECIALLY when the kid in question is Laios.

But man they depended on each other SO much as kids. Too much. It really feels like they didn't have any other source of positive reinforcement, or anyone else to share themselves with. So of course an offhand comment like that has a huge impact on Falin.

Or this little bit from one of the flashbacks:

This tears me apart. Do you think it tears him apart to think about? I think it does. I think Laios holds every small failure to care for Falin against himself.

And then there's the Bigger stuff. The way that him coping with his own trauma ended up impacting her.

Like his interest in monsters. Like him going to find a ghost, and accidentally revealing Falin's magic to the whole village in the process.

Like him needing to leave. And leaving her behind.

He shaped her life so much, and he carries so much guilt for it. And again, there should have been other people there to help. The same things that made Laios need to leave home are the things that made his leaving so hard on Falin. She ate alone after that. She shouldn't have had to eat alone just because Laios wasn't there.

She was 9 when he left for school, and he was 11.

Nine. And Laios feels like he failed her because he didn't stand by her through this better. As an eleven year old.

Both of these kids deserved so much better from the world.
