An hour after sunset on this summer solstice brings us a cosmic trio: Mars, Venus, and a waxing crescent moon (14.1%). Mars is toward the upper left, very faint, but with a red hue.

Eveningstar has dead kids?! D:

yeah :(((( she has two dead kits (hushkit & sparkpaw) and one living kit (puddlespark, who asked to be named after sparkpaw). hushkit was stillborn and sparkpaw drowned.

eveningstar tidbits!

in the roleplay she was created for, sparkpaw was actually murdered, and eveningstar killed the cat who drowned him before retiring, deciding that her trauma would only damage the clan if she continued to lead

she became a mother figure to shiverstar, the next leader

i'm actually really proud of how her character arc turned out, especially because it wasn't really planned at all

but enough about where she came from!

her warrior name was eveningbird

she's very calm and level-headed, and can pretty much always be trusted to make the most rational decision

there have been very few battles since she came to power!

her husband is scorchheart, who made the choice a while back to be a permanent nurse

they are the colony power couple, the golden standard of relationships around the lake.

her full title is eveningstar the patient, but she's also been called eveningstar the peaceful

Mon expérience avec Penny's Big Breakaway, le nouveau jeu de plateforme 3D de l'équipe derrière Sonic Mania, est teintée d'une ambivalence palpable. D'un côté, il est clair que ce jeu a été réalisé avec passion par des individus talentueux cherchant à innover dans le genre du platformer tout en rendant hommage aux classiques de Sonic. Penny's Big Breakaway : Réinventer le Jeu de Plateforme avec Style

Le véritable joyau de Penny's Big Breakaway réside dans sa réinterprétation audacieuse du jeu de plateforme. Ce titre se démarque des autres jeux de plateforme 3D en mettant l'accent sur l'accumulation d'un score élevé et en offrant un potentiel de speedrun exceptionnel. Au cœur de cette expérience se trouve le yo-yo de Penny, un outil polyvalent qui peut servir de grappin, de corde, de roue et même d'arme. Le jeu encourage les joueurs à enchaîner les mouvements de yo-yo pour augmenter leur combo et ainsi accumuler davantage de points. La mécanique de jeu est aussi simple que captivante : sauter, tirer en l'air, atterrir sur le yo-yo ou la roue, puis répéter ce cycle pour surmonter les obstacles sans toucher le sol. Les niveaux de Penny's Big Breakaway rappellent les scènes emblématiques de Sonic sur les consoles Sega, mais dans une perspective tridimensionnelle. Avec leurs multiples routes, leurs objets à collecter et leurs configurations labyrinthiques, ces niveaux offrent une rejouabilité remarquable. Au mieux, ces niveaux mettent en valeur toute la palette de mouvements de Penny, en introduisant également différents gadgets pour chaque "monde". Bien qu'il puisse y avoir une courbe d'apprentissage assez prononcée, qui pourrait frustrer les joueurs débutants, le potentiel du jeu est indéniable. Cependant, le principal défaut du gameplay réside dans sa propension aux bugs. Il n'est pas rare qu'un combo soit interrompu en raison de problèmes de programmation, comme la disparition inattendue du yo-yo ou de la roue. Ces bugs peuvent être particulièrement gênants, surtout dans les niveaux où ces mécaniques sont largement utilisées.

Entre Réussite Nostalgique et Glissement vers la Contrainte

La conception des niveaux dans Penny's Big Breakaway vise à recréer les mondes labyrinthiques des jeux Sonic en 2D dans un contexte tridimensionnel. Cette approche, plus profonde que celle des Sonic Adventures, offre de nombreux carrefours intéressants et variés, tout en capturant l'essence nostalgique des jeux classiques. Cependant, là où le jeu commence à montrer ses faiblesses, c'est dans l'ajout de missions secondaires dans chaque niveau. Bien que ces missions puissent sembler enrichissantes à première vue, elles contrastent fortement avec le gameplay frénétique et rapide du jeu principal. Cela crée une dissonance qui met en évidence les aspects négatifs du jeu au lieu de mettre en valeur ses points forts.

Une Présentation Décevante

Malheureusement, là où Penny's Big Breakaway s'effondre complètement, c'est dans sa présentation, à la fois sonore et esthétique. Bien que le jeu ne vise pas à épater par ses graphismes ou sa production, le problème réside dans la direction artistique. Malgré l'utilisation de couleurs vives, le jeu échoue à transmettre une identité visuelle distincte. Les niveaux se confondent, nuisant à la fois au sentiment de progression et à l'immersion. En fin de compte, le monde de Penny's Big Breakaway évoque les pires aspects des jeux de plateforme de mascottes des années 90, se rapprochant davantage d'un Bubsy 3D que d'une Sonic Adventure. Il semble manquer quelque chose, comme si les actifs étaient des espaces réservés à compléter ultérieurement.

Waxing Crescent. Grand Traverse Bay, West Arm

In these images one can view Venus, a waxing crescent (3.4% visibility), over the west arm of Grand Traverse Bay. This is not far from Traverse City, Michigan. Additionally, in the foreground, one can also see grapes for wine. The photographer was about in the middle (width as well as length) of Old Mission Peninsula.

Finally a clear night, although there’s too much gloppy snow around to drag the telescope out. 20x binox to the rescue! I think Venus is still at gibbous phase but at 20x you’re not gonna see that. Have an angelic choir style image of Hesperus the Evening Star instead. Thin crescent Moon with Crisium nicely outlined and some polar mountains catching the light. Bonus Earthshine for you, and Phi-3 Aquarii as the bright star to the left. And Ganymede-Jupiter-Io-Europa this evening, Callisto is in eclipse.
