You can’t stop thinking about the kiss.
You can’t stop thinking about Leon’s calloused fingers grazing over the plump of your cheek, scorching your skin with hands so cold it reminded you of the rifles you handled during those gruelling winter missions. You can’t stop thinking about how his pupils flared, and you basked in the glazed cerulean of his irises, so clear you could see yourself through them.
Worst of it all, you can’t stop thinking about him.
You shouldn’t. You know you shouldn’t. Leon Kennedy is your friend, your best friend. Your first meeting was five years ago on the field, clicked instantly from sharing the same corny sense of humour, and since then, your dynamic with him has been strictly platonic. You told him about all your exes, your sex life in detail, who you dated and when you had your one night stands. Hell, you even told him about your revolting bad habits that you kept secret from your exes. There was no chance this man could fall in love with someone like you, right?
…Right?
Truth is, you valued your relationship with Leon so much that you’re unwilling to risk it. You two connected beyond the small stuff, sometimes you find your conversations take a philosophical turn. You two discussed about life, family, dreams for a better world – it’s not the kind of connection you can find again.
And now you two have shared a kiss.
You were startled by the sound of your ringtone chanting through the Bluetooth speakers of your car, piercing through your train of thought. Your brain assigned autopilot, navigating you home after a laborious mission in the middle of Texas for the past two weeks. Darting your eyes at the screen, you recognised the familiar name on your contact list.
Leon. Speak of the devil.
You clicked a button on the side of your wheel. The ringing stopped, and the line connected. Immediately, you were embraced by a glee in Leon’s voice, but only ever so subtly.
“Hey. Welcome back.”
“How’d you know I’m back?” You gripped the steering wheel, a tiny concern brewed in you, worried he would catch your unusual behaviour.
“Chris told me. He’s surprised you didn’t say anything.”
A deep sigh left your throat from your core. You couldn’t exactly tell Leon that you needed time, time to catch a breath, time to process your yearn for this man. No matter how understanding he could have been.
There was no use hiding – Chris would have told him about your whereabouts if you didn’t. Chris and Leon are close friends after all.
“Can’t get a moment of peace with you two around.”
“Next time, call me. I can pick you up.” Your pulse took a leap. In another time or situation, those words would not meant anything to you. It was just how Leon was, his instincts to help others extended into his personal life too.
“So you don’t fall asleep on the wheel, stupid. Your death will not be on my conscience.”
That earned a giggle in your books. You could tell Leon’s light teasing was an attempt to comfort you, to make you laugh, to hear the snorty chuckle between your lips.
“Don’t worry. If I pass, I’ll make sure to haunt you for the rest of your life. Regardless whose fault it is.” You quipped.
“That sounds wonderful.”
Despite his sarcasm, Leon’s voice warmed at the sound of your laugh. You couldn’t help but appreciate these moments like this with him, and you prayed what you had together would never go away.
“Anyway, get some rest. I’ll bring you some food to your place at eight.”
You appreciated how he remembered that you prefer to stay home directly after a mission. After difficult missions, the presence of people could be daunting and uneasy.
Leon’s the exception.
He always brought a peace offering – a chicken sandwich from your favourite deli, a viral dessert you saw in a store once, your usual frappuccino order with ten customisations… If you want it, he got it for you.
“See you soon.” He hung up and you drove home.
Tumblr media
You’re thankful for internalised heating and electric blankets. They’ve became necessities for post mission self-care routine like this one. You scrubbed yourself down, cleansing the scent of blood, grease and dirt that clings deeply to your body. So when you finished, you feel rejuvenated. You napped, checked for new mail, checked for bad food in the fridge and took care of any errands you missed when you had to leave swiftly for the mission.
You waited and waited. It was almost eighty-fourty, with nothing but a brief text that penned “Running late” from Leon. You texted back, no follow-ups, no ‘seen’, no double checkmark. You wondered what was taking him so long, before the bell buzz at your door.
You opened the door, prepared to give him a lecture, just to find Leon with a familiar takeaway bag in his hands.
“No way… Is that…?”
“Yes. It’s from your favourite place.”
“Wait, the one that’s always has a long line…?”
Leon helped himself into your apartment. His hair soaked, it shimmered under the ceiling light of your apartment. He must have waited a whole hour in the rain.
“I don’t know what to say.”
“Thank you would be nice.”
You hurried to your cupboard, picked up a fresh towel and handed it to Leon for him to dry off.
“Thank you. I mean it.”
Leon nodded, a gentle grin at the corner of his lips knowing that you’re grateful of his gesture. And you genuinely did. No man, no ex, no friend you knew would do things for you to this extent. With your help, Leon removed his wet jacket and revealed his top also drenched underneath, clinging to every bump, every muscle on his torso. You swallowed deeply, slotting your eyes anywhere but his chest.
“I’ve got spare clothes in the car.”
You insisted on grabbing Leon’s clothes for him, thankful for the opportunity to take yourself away from the situation. You took the keys, and took in some fresh air. Anything to distract yourself from imagining your best friend naked on the top half. You opened the truck, retrieved his spare clothes in his gym bag and returned to your home.
When the door opened, you found Leon with his shirt already removed, revealing those sculpted muscles from the results of his vigorous training.
“Sorry. It gets uncomfortable when it’s sticky.”
You gawked, your eyes planted on the slopes of Leon’s tauted arms, pelvis line drawing a deep v into his crotch. He’s showing off. You know it. You struggled through the desire of staring knowing it will just rub his ego even further, but your eyes betrayed you. Leon observed you, a smug grin that made you hold back a punch.
“Like what you see?”
Leon strided towards you, taking his time. You had plenty of chances to walk away now, but your feet are planted to the floor, his dry clothes still in your hand. With a hand over your head, Leon closed the entrance door, and shifted close enough for you to catch his scent – the musky woodiness mixed with rain and his odour enveloped your nose – his signature cologne.
A hand reached to your waist, pulled you in his embrace.
“Do you want to see the rest?”
His breath tickled your ears as he whispered.
You forgot how attractive Leon could be. How others flock to his attention. Begged me to give them his number. With full confidence, you believed those charms didn’t work on you. Blissfully unaware that Leon chose to withdraw his charms in front of you, contrasting to the unadulterated need his body radiated right now.
Breath tightened, pulse sped, unable to keep up with your thoughts. You felt a sensation shot down your spinal cord, knees trembled slightly, a look of mischief clung to Leon’s face. Your body betrayed you, nodding incessantly.
“So honest.”
Leon feet guided you to the couch, sat you till your eyes level to the bulge in his jeans. The blond undid his first button, and your gaze followed the zipper downwards. Leon grabbed underneath his boxers, and his dick sprung free onto his abdomen. With a curled fist, Leon hovered it at the bridge of your nose and pumped it a few times in your direct line of sight.
“Wet it for me, baby.”
He teased, inching his cock closer to the pucker of your lips.
Saliva gathered at the back of your throat, your tongue desperate to feast on him. A droplet of precome leaked from his tip. You grazed your tongue on the tiny slit, circulating the drop all over your mouth until it blended in your saliva. The light hint of saltiness was there, and it was gone again.
Leon hitched a breath, his hands crawling down your head to pull your hair back loosely for easier moment. You hollowed your cheeks, and slide his girth between your lips. Light gasp turned to needy grunts, the hands groping your hair tightened, pushing you further inside.
You curled your tongue all over the head, coating it with your slick, indulging in the smell of sweat intertwined with his sex. Corner of your lips dribbled down your neck, eyes forced shut from the ache of the shape of his cock head engraved in the back of your throat. But you couldn’t get enough. You let a hand go from Leon’s thigh, and reached for your underwear instead.
“Look at you. Can’t even wait five minutes.”
Leon’s blue eyes glistened with cunningness. His hand tugged harshly at your hair, eliciting a pained groan that pulled you off his cock out with a pop. With one swift motion, Leon removed your top and pants, until you are bare in nothing but your underwear. He slid his hand underneath you, pushed your underwear aside, and felt the stickiness as a finger went inside you.
“God, you want this so much, huh?”
“S-Shut up and fuck me, Leon.”
Leon’s expression changed when you told him that. It triggered something carnal within, and shoved your back onto the couch, underwear pushed aside, cock teased your entrance. With one deep breath, Leon thrusted himself in you, ignoring your needy pleas. You shrieked in pleasure, your jaw drowned in the juncture between his neck and shoulders, nails clawing his back.
“You’re sucking me in, baby…”
Leon’s skin flushed red, his sculpted shoulders strained in delight at the impact.
Without further ado, Leon slammed into your swollen, needy cunt. Squelches and the slap of skin to skin hovered the air, and a stir developed in your body, threatened to release. Your eyes tried to brace shut, but Leon’s hand stroked your face when you did, demanding you to look at him. Until your thoughts were filled with him as you finished together. Leon followed, removed you quickly and landed the streams of come on your lower belly.
It was supposed to be a moment of euphoria, but Leon’s expression turned grim, parting from your embrace after his fingers dwelled lightly on your shoulder blades.
“You should have run when you had the chance.”
Leon sighed, regret forming at his tongue.
“You could have had a normal life, be with someone who doesn’t chase death like me. But now that I have you, it’s impossible to let you go. I can’t ignore wanting you anymore.”
You sensed years of agony and sorrow behind his cerulean eyes – you never noticed these emotions he kept so secretively in his heart. How much did he had to suffer when you told him of all your relationships in the past, and Leon supported you each and every time. No matter how terrible your exes treated you.
“That’s not the life I want.” You affirmed, two fingers brushed his lips and reached his jaw. “I don’t want an easy life, Leon. I don’t care how hard it is. I want to be by your side.”
Leon pulled you in tighter into his familiar embrace. He laid his lips against yours, and you are reminded of that intimate kiss you shared two weeks ago. The passion, minty sweetness of gum is so distinctly Leon.
It was his plea, begged you to notice how much Leon loved you. How far he will go to make you happy. It took you so long, but you could finally accept him. You returned the kiss, just as gentle, loving – a silent vow to Leon that you will make him happy as he lived.
“Come on, baby. Let’s eat. The pizza’s already cold.”

You and Venetia sit in one of the many living rooms, watching TV as she braids your hair. It’s been a few days since your arrival, and you were enjoying the break from the cruel outside world.
You planned on getting Felix to drive you down to your parents’ house in London soon, just to visit. You didn’t want to completely leave them in the dust, and you hadn’t seen them since Christmas break. If you were being honest, you missed them, and you have a lot to tell them about your second year at Oxford.
“So, when are you going to visit your parents?” Venetia asks as she continues plaiting your hair.
“I think tomorrow, actually.” You reply, glancing down at your hands as you pick at your nails, a nervous habit.
“Nice. Is Felix going with you?” She questions. “Yeah, I’m going to try to get him to drive me so I don’t have to take a cab.” You respond. “I’m sure he will,” She says. You nod softly.
“You know, I’m really glad Felix found a friend like you. Not some girl just desperate to fuck him.” Venetia says quietly, out of the blue. It seems totally random, but you needed that. A reminder for why you’re even here when you clearly don’t belong.
“You keep him in check, you know? You’re a really good influence,” She ties off your braid with a hairtie and you turn around to face her.
“Really?” You ask, blushing at the compliment. “Yeah. I mean it, love.” She grins and throws her arms around you, embracing you in a hug. You smile into her shoulder as you hug her back.
She pulls away. “But have you, like, ever considered dating him?”
You’re taken aback by the question. Have you? You try to think back on the past four years of knowing Felix Catton.
Sure, the first time you met him, you thought he was slightly attractive. But thoughts of dating him or even getting close to him romantically never crossed your mind.
“No. Never,” You shake your head. “Okay, what about… Farleigh?”
Your stomach drops and you shake your head aggressively. “No. No, we like, hate each other.” You chuckle slightly at the absurdity of her question. “Why, though?” She asks. “I see the way he looks at you. I don’t think he hates you,”
She must be insane. She’s imagining things, or romanticizing things like she always does.
“Seriously, Vee?” You shake your head and facepalm. “What?! I don’t know, you’d make a good couple.” She giggles and shoves you playfully. “No, we wouldn’t.”
“Who?” You flinch at the deep voice coming from behind you. You look over your shoulder to see Farleigh walking in with a cigarette in his hand, as per usual.
He sits down in a chair near the couch and takes a long drag from the cigarette. “No one.” You quickly say, narrowing your eyes at him.
“This guy I was telling her about, I was saying they would look good together,” Venetia explains, and you turn to look at her with wide eyes. Why was she lying? Maybe to test her theory, to see if Farleigh got jealous.
Farleigh scoffs. “What guy?” He asks, and you wonder why he’s intrigued. “Just one of my friends,” She waves her hand like it’s not important.
“Well, if he’s awkward and inexperienced, they’ll make a great match.” Farleigh says. You turn back to him and you can already feel your anger brewing. “Who said I was awkward and inexperienced?” You ask, confusion written all over your face.
“Like, everyone.” He smiles mockingly. “I’m not.” You cross your arms and look down, your face hot with embarrassment.
“Hell, even Felix was talking about it a few weeks ago.” Your eyes snap back up to him as he blows some smoke from his mouth. The words hang in the silent air for a moment.
“What?” Your voice comes out weak. “Yeah, he was saying he only hangs out with you because he feels bad. I mean, think about it. You come from a middle class family, you’re a broke scholarship student… Felix only hangs out with people on the same level as him. You’re just an exception, I guess.” He shrugs even though everything he just said has made your stomach begin to churn and your heart begin to race.
“Use that pretty brain of yours,” He points at you with his cigarette, smirking as you stare into space, trying to process what he just told you.
“Farleigh.” Venetia warns, shaking her head. She places a hand on your shoulder. “I’m sure that’s not true. Farleigh’s just a little shit stirrer. He gets off on that,” She rolls her eyes at him.
“No, it’s true. He has this savior complex. This happens all the time, you’re just the only one that happened to stick around. Like a little lost puppy, following him around, cause you have nowhere else to go. You just want this life so bad, don’t you?” He continues, his tone seeping with hatred.
You feel tears welling up in your eyes and you really don’t want to cry in front of Farleigh. Or Venetia, for that matter. You look around, then stand up and walk out of the room and up the spiraling staircase.
You can hear Venetia scolding Farleigh as you run up the stairs. You eventually storm into your room and shut the door, flopping onto your bed as you begin to sob.
Was it really true? Your whole friendship with Felix was out of pity?
No.
~~~
4 YEARS EARLIER
You couldn’t sleep. It was certainly past midnight, you figured. You had been trying to sleep for the past two hours.
Something about this mansion made you feel small and inferior, like you were an imposter. You were, in a way. You didn’t belong. It was taking you a while to get used to the exuberant settings and all the formalities.
As you stared up at your ceiling, you figured some fresh air might help. You grabbed a sweatshirt and threw it over yourself, slipping on your sandals and walking downstairs and out one of the back doors to the courtyard.
You could swear there was someone sitting on the steps. You squinted and you could make out a head of curls and a very small light, a flame. No, a cigarette flame.
You walked closer and grinned as Farleigh turned to you, flinching a bit.
“Why are you out here?” He asked, his face only illuminated by the ghostly moonlight. “I could ask you the same thing,” You replied, standing over him.
“Can I sit?” You asked. He nodded reluctantly. You sat down and hugged your waist in an attempt to stay warm.
You glanced up at him as he sighed, letting some smoke float out into the air. “You have a smoking problem,” You remarked.
“It’s not a problem. Most people smoke, you know.” He rolled his eyes. “At sixteen?” You asked. “Well, I’m almost seventeen. But yeah,” He nodded and took another drag from it.
“Well, I’ll be waiting for the day when your lungs stop working.” You shot back, grinning at your own statement. “Oookay,” He let out another long sigh as he looked out at the courtyard.
There was a long moment of silence between the two of you. You gazed up at the stars in the clear sky above you, like glitter scattered across a page of black ink. It was peaceful and delicate.
Eventually, Farleigh broke the silence. “You know, I like you a lot more when you keep your mouth shut,”
You rolled your eyes and glanced over at him. “I don’t even talk that much.” You observed the smile he was trying to hide and you nudged him playfully.
“I see you trying not to smile,” You giggled and the smile tugging at his lips broke out into a grin. You poked him in the arm. “You act all tough. Why?”
His smile faded and he looked back out at the long stretch of grass. “Not sure.” His voice was distant and uncertain. This was the one time he was ever going to let his guard down, you thought to yourself. Maybe it was because he thought you were just a one time guest that he would never see again.
You two ended up talking for about a half hour, discussing the most random things. But for some reason, it was one of the best conversations you had in a while. You had a lot more in common than you thought.
You think you ended up dozing off on the steps with him, but you woke up the next morning in your bed. You’re not exactly sure how that happened.
Of course, the next morning at breakfast he acted like he was offput by your presence alone, but you knew what happened the night before wasn’t a dream. It was real, and you knew that when you looked deep into his warm brown eyes.
~~~
The next day, you wake up early to make yourself look somewhat presentable, despite your puffy eyelids from all the crying you did the night before. You put on some light makeup and a white sundress.
Although you didn’t want to face Felix, you needed a ride to your parents’. You head to Felix’s room after putting some shoes on, knocking on his door.
“Felix,” You call out, knowing he’s probably still sleeping. With no response, you knock harder. “Felix!” You call, slightly louder than the first time.
You hear a loud groan and his bed shifting. “What, mate? Who is it?” He asks. “It’s me,” You reply, staring at the door expectantly.
You hear him shuffling around before his footsteps get louder and the door swings open. His brown hair is messier than usual and his eyes seem to be half open as he studies your appearance.
“What’s the special occasion?” He asks, leaning up against the doorframe as he tries to rub the sleep from his eyes. “Well, I actually have a favor to ask,” You respond, trying to ignore all the thoughts about what Farleigh said last night creeping back into your mind.
“What’s that?” Felix tilts his head curiously. “I was wondering if you could drive me to my parents’ house today. I wanted to visit. Just for the day, you know.” You smile up at him.
He seems caught off guard, and then his expression looks pained. “Oh, you know what? I totally would, but there’s this thing happening in London today. A lot of our friends from Oxford are going to be there, why don’t we just go to your parents’ another day?” He suggests.
You feel disappointment hit you like a tidal wave. Is this what Farleigh was talking about?
“Our friends? You mean your friends.” You correct him, suddenly feeling the emotions from last night spilling over. “Well, they’d be happy to see you, I’m sure-” “You can’t just do this one thing for me?” You interrupt him.
He looks at you, dumbfounded. “It’s not a big deal, why can’t you just get a cab?” His words cut through you. Not a big deal.
“You know what, nevermind.” You shake your head and hold up your hands. You turn and begin walking down the hall.
“I do a lot of things for you, you know!” Felix shouts after you, and you’ve never heard that tone of anger in his voice. He’s always been so kind, so considerate. He used to jump at the chance to help you with something. Now maybe you knew why.
On your way downstairs, you run into the last person you needed to see in this moment.
Farleigh stops in his tracks when he sees you. He looks up at you from the lower steps, probably noticing your distressed state.
“What’s your problem?” He asks, smirking lightheartedly like it’s another one of his jokes. “Farleigh, I don’t need your little comments right now,” You sigh in exasperation and continue down the stairs, pushing him out of your way.
“Woah, did something happen with you and Felix?” He turns around and follows you out of curiosity. “No. I just-” You realize a possible solution to your problem, but you would rather throw yourself out of a window than spend  nearly two hours in a car with Farleigh.
“You can drive, right?” You turn around to face him once you reach the bottom of the stairs. “Yes… Why?” He narrows his eyes and peers down at you. “Okay, I was trying to ask Felix if he could drive me to my parents’ house today. He obviously said he was too busy for that, so… Can you just drive me?” You look up at him, crossing your fingers behind your back.
The corners of his mouth curl up in a smirk. “Sorry, you’re asking me for a favor?” He chuckles under his breath and raises his eyebrows. “Fuck. Yes, okay?!” You facepalm and wish you had never said something. Now he’s going to tease you over it for the next week or so.
He steps closer and leans down slightly, although you still have to look up at him. “Say please,” He says tauntingly.
You roll your eyes while heat creeps up onto your face. “Please,” You say quietly. “Sorry, I didn’t really hear it,” He leans even closer and you look away. This is why you can’t ask Farleigh for help. Ever.
“Please.” You hate how pitiful and desperate you sound. He seems satisified, so he steps back and stands up straight again. “Alright. Let’s go then, shall we?” You want to strangle him as you follow him out the door.
It’s sweltering outside. You groan. “Oh my God, so hot…” You shake your head and look up at the sun almost already in the middle of the sky.
“What do you say, should we steal his truck?” Farleigh eyes Felix’s truck and nods his head towards it. You know it’s wrong, and he probably will need it later tonight to get to London, but his truck doesn’t have a roof and it would be nice to feel a breeze…
Fuck it. “Do you even have the keys?” You ask, walking over to the truck. Farleigh holds up Felix’s keys to the truck. You cover your mouth and giggle, feeling like you’re back in fifth grade, playing a stupid prank on someone.
You open the door to the passenger’s side and hop in while Farleigh does the same, turning one of the keys and starting the engine.
“So, what was his excuse?” He questions as he puts the truck in reverse and pulls out of the gravel driveway. He stretches an arm over to place his hand on the back of your headrest, shifting to see over his shoulder. You watch him closely as he does all this.
“Uhm.. This thing in London today. Apparently a bunch of Oxford students are going. Were you planning on going?” You reply, biting your lip as he moved the truck into drive.
Recognition flashes across his face. “Oh. I told him I would go with him, but.. I didn’t really want to anyway,” He shrugs nonchalantly. “Farleigh Start, passing up the opportunity to go to a social gathering?” You gasp sarcastically.
“We spent a whole year with those people. I’d rather not go all the way to London just to see them after what, like, a few weeks?” You squint to look over at him in the sun.
“But you’re driving almost the same distance to my parents,” You raise an eyebrow. He takes a moment to respond, almost like he’s trying to come up with an excuse.
“This is different. You asked me for a favor and I didn’t have anything else to do. It’s not personal.” He glances over at you. His lighter curls that are usually hidden are now illuminated in the golden sunlight.
“I mean, you did have plans with Felix.” You look back out to the road stretched ahead of you and the trees with vibrant green leaves blowing gently in the breeze.
“Okay, do you want me to keep driving?” He glares at you and your remarks. You bite back the smile threatening to form on your face. “Yeah, yeah. Sorry.” You look down and adjust the skirt of your dress.
After about two hours, you see the sign that tells you you are about to enter the small town where you formed many fond memories.
“This isn’t bad,” Farleigh admits as he slows down to round the upcoming bend. “What, did you think I lived in the slums or something?” You laugh a bit at his remark before staring out the window and admiring the familiar surroundings.
“Maybe.” You can hear the smile in his voice. This is nice, you think to yourself. Maybe you two can actually get along.
“Okay, it’s gonna be the third house to your right.” You tell him. It’s a townhouse, not very big, but quaint and cozy. The walls are old brick and the windows are thin with white frames, and some shrubs grow on either side of the staircase leading up to the front door.
He pulls over next to the sidewalk and puts the truck in park. You undo your seatbelt and open the door, pausing to look over at Farleigh.
You notice he is still just sitting there and staring straight ahead, tapping his fingers rhythmically on the wheel.
“Hey, you can come along, you know,” You say softly. He looks over at you, his expression seeming a bit shocked. He raises his eyebrows.
“Really? You want me to meet your parents?” He smirks and you register his joke. “Oh, shut up.”
“C’mon, I don’t want you to have to just sit out here. This might take a while,” You explain, gesturing for him to come with you.
“Alright, I guess.” He shrugs and you both get out of the truck. You lead, walking up the stairs and breathing in the scent of the plants and the summer air.
You knock on the door and wait patiently. The door opens and you are greeted by your mother. She exclaims your name joyfully and embraces you in a hug.
“Honey, I didn’t know you were coming!” She pulls away to get a good look at you. You observe her. She looks tired. “I thought I would stop by,” You grin brightly.
“You just get prettier every day,” She hugs you again. “Who’s this?” She asks, noticing Farleigh, who is waiting below on the steps.
“This is Farleigh. I needed a ride, and Felix wasn’t available. This is his cousin,” You step to the side, allowing Farleigh to walk up and shake your mom’s hand.
“Oh, nice to meet you!” She shakes his hand, looking up at him. “You’re tall,” She laughs a bit, taken aback by his height.
Farleigh chuckles a bit. “Nice to meet you, Miss.” He dips his head politely. He’s so fake to adults, you think to yourself. “Ah, a fellow American,” She glances at you with a smile. “Yes ma’am,” Farleigh nods.
“Please, come inside,” She opens the door wider and steps back to let you both in. Farleigh has to duck to fit through the door.
You walk into the small living room and sit on your favorite couch. You see Farleigh observing all the pictures framed on the wall of when you were little. You hear him snicker slightly.
“Where’s Dad?” You ask. Your mom has already entered the kitchen and is pouring some hot tea into some cups.
“He’s at work,” She replies. “On a Saturday?” You ask. Usually your dad got work off on Saturdays.
“Yep. He’s been working hard lately, trying to make some extra money.” Your mom explains as Farleigh walks over to sit with you on the couch.
She walks over and sets the tea cups down on the coffee table. “Thank you,” Farleigh smiles at her and takes one of them. You follow suit.
It feels intimate, in a way. Farleigh meeting your mother and being inside the home you spent many years in. You aren’t sure if you could consider it a childhood home, since you only spent your teenage years here.
Your mom sits down across from you two in her usual chair. “So, tell me all about school. How were exams?” She asks,
You spend the next few hours just talking. Farleigh is surprisingly very conversational, and he seems to be enjoying himself. All three of you are laughing and sharing stories. Your mom even prepares a nice lunch for you two.
After today, you feel like you’ve learned more about Farleigh than you ever knew before. He’s almost bearable when he’s nice like this, and maybe it really is genuine.
“Well, we should probably start heading back,” You say, standing up from the couch. “Alright, sweetheart. I’ll tell Dad you stopped by.” She smiles softly.
And then before you know it, you’re back in the truck with Farleigh, beginning your journey back.

Strawberry Sorbet
pairing: mark x reader
genre: plug!mark, we have graduated from stoner!mark to plug!mark thanks to @markonthemoon, honestly a lot of fluff, smut, weed mentions and use
word count: 3,704
Pulling your jacket over your head, you ran to Mark’s car in your fluffy slides. You slid into the already-adjusted passenger seat to your liking and leaned in to hug him. “Greetings” you grabbed the back of his neck, letting your nails lightly graze his skin as you held him in embrace.
“You good?” He licks his lips, before taking a sip of his juice for his cotton mouth.
“Yeah, how you doing?” You both smile, instinctively. Every time you guys are together, all you can both do is smile. The shy glances exchanged, the extra effort in casual banter just to see each other laugh. You both are crushing on each other hard but neither of you want to admit it.
You met Mark a couple months ago, at a party, through a mutual friend. There was an instant connection when he joined into your discussion, abruptly. He challenged your opinion, which is something you’re not used to. “Ouch! If guys who make music are fuckboys then maybe women who are into musicians are haters!” His delivery was playful which made you want to bicker with him.
“Yo? Who invited this guy?!” You said pointing at him as everyone broke into laughter. You both introduced yourselves and continued the discussion for a while. Soon, you both settled outside, smoking a joint and he showed you the games on his phone. Ever since that night, you guys have been hanging out socially and you’ve been picking up from Mark. It has been so nice to find a plug in your social circle. It makes you less anxious not having to call random numbers and not knowing what to expect.
So tonight was no different when you got in his car to pick up some weed. As always, he had rolled you a little something in his special pink paper, with magenta hearts on it. “Let’s go smoke this and then I’ll drop you home, yeah?” He smiled, coyly before putting the car into gear and pulling out of your street.
Mark drove for a bit before parking near a canal and he passed you his lighter. “Would you be so kind and do the honours?” He teased and opened his hands in his lap. Motioning you to bring your feet to his lap so he can rub them. You lit the joint and took your first pull. “So, how was your day?” He asked and listened intently, as always. He leaned back in his seat, resting his head. The way the moon lit the outlines of his features, made him look angelic. His eyes were focused on you as his hands rubbed your feet. You told him about work and university drama and he contributed with facial expressions and giggling with you.
“Girl.” You’d say in one tone.
“Girl.” He’d say in another.
You both passed the joint between you both and talked about your day. The conversation flowed from, life to movies to music and then you both fell in a comfortable silence. Looking at the bright, silver moon reflecting on the water whilst Mark continued to rub your feet. His touch was innocent and gentle. You felt his gaze slowly shift from the water to you and your face felt hot. You wanted to turn your face and catch his big beautiful eyes but you felt so shy. Not knowing what your feelings for him meant, made your heart beat faster.
“Hey” He whispered, “look at me.” Sincerity in his voice left chills down your back.
“I’m really glad I met you. You’re my guy, my dude.” He said and you chuckled, turning your face to look at him.
“I’m really glad I met you too... dude.” You stuck out your pinky finger and Mark already knew the cue. He took your finger into his pinky and transitioned into a handshake. A month ago, Mark started giving you a little extra in the bags and he made you pinky promise not to tell anyone or that it would ruin his “street cred.” So you both came up with a handshake shared between just the two of you. That’s how life had started to feel for the past couple weeks. An inside joke shared between two souls. Were you falling for him?
“Alright!” He propped as you retrieved your feet back into your slides. “Let’s get you home, bab- dUDE” Mark panicked and cleared his throat. You opened your mouth to speak but he turned the volume of the music up and started driving once again.
“See I woke up having a bad dayy.. And I gotta get the dollar any fast way..”
He sang along to Way Back Home by Cordae and you took it as a prompt to not mention his slip up. So you sang along with him. Rolling down the window, the breeze felt nice on your skin. The warm yellow street lights lit up the blue atmosphere and it made everything feel like a Van Gogh painting. You couldn’t figure out if you had always seen life from such a romantic lens or was it just recently starting to feel more pink and purple. You looked at Mark, once again, taking in his features. Eyes trailing from his messy black hair, to his glasses, his Adam’s apple and how much you wanted to place a kiss on it to see his reaction. Your stare landed at his lips and you felt your own mouth slightly part. You thought about how his lips would feel pressed against yours in urgency. How his mouth would taste, if he would use his tongue straight away or wait a little? Would the kiss be rushed or would he take his time? Your mind went in loops and you swallowed as you felt yourself salivate at the thought. Shit. Maybe, you do like him.
Before you knew it, you were pulled outside your house once again but not a single atom in your body wanted to leave Mark. He turned to you again, smiling and opened the dashboard. Pulling out a package, he handed it to you. “Here you are.. and there’s a lil something extra. just like always but shh.” He handed you an A5 sized package. It was bigger than the usual extra but you decided to not question it. “Ok so, this is Strawberry Sorbet. I think you’re gonna like it. It’s gonna help your cramps and give you tingly feelings.. you know the kind you get when you see me?” He wiggled his eyebrows, earning a smack on the arm from you. He chucked, before continuing. “Nah but forreal, it’s really smooth as well. It’s a hybrid and kinda has like uhh.. a sweet candy-like flavour.. and DUDE. It slows down time SO much, its crazy. But uhm.. yeah, I hope you enjoy it.” He scratched the back of his head, realising that he might be talking too much but he relaxed when his eyes met your eyes, which were only focused on him. What was in the air tonight?
“Ugh dude, thank you so much. You are the best. Please let me know when you get home.” You gave him another hug, this time a bit shy-er than the first one. You felt your cheeks feel hot as Mark put his arms around you and give you a slight squeeze.
“Please, the streets should be scared that I’m not home yet.” He joked which made you roll your eyes.
“I’m being serious, Mark. Text me, okay?” You get out the car and lean in through the passenger window.
“Yes boss.” He raised his eye brow and smiled, playfully flirting with you.
“Okay, good.” And with that, he drove off. ________________________________________________________________________________
Dropping your keys in the bowl near your entrance, you walked back into your much warmer apartment, compared to the outside. You made your way to your bedroom and plopped yourself on the bed.
Wondering why the package is so big, you carefully opened it with excitement. You saw that he had your usual baggie in there but also a piece of paper. Confused, you pulled out the paper first, disregarding the weed. You hand flew to your mouth and you gasped, looking at the paper. Mark had drew an illustration of you with his copic markers. You always knew Mark was this skater guy, who liked to tag places with this friends but you never knew that he drew like this. You felt your stomach in knots as heat rose from your core, up to your cheeks, covering your entire face.
This. Fucking. Guy.
You thought to yourself and smiled. Your eyes trailed further along the paper to find a couple lines at the bottom, comparing you to a summer’s day with Mark’s own twist on it. “Nerd” You whispered to yourself, giggling. You felt your phone buzz and you jumped to pick it up. ____________________________________________

Throwing your phone, on the bed you fell back into your pillows and squealed into your hands like a love struck teenager. Ok. You definitely have feelings for him.
That night, neither of you could sleep. Mark felt nervous about his bold move and you felt giddy about your feelings. After a couple of hours of tossing and turning, your phone buzzed again. This time, it was a phone call.
“Sorry, who’s this?” You answer the phone jokingly.
“Ha Ha, very funny, asshole.” Mark dead panned, making you laugh. “Why you still up?” He asked softly.
“Dunno..”
“You can’t sleep either huh?” You could hear him smile through the phone and you bit your lip.
“So.. uhh.. you really like the drawing?”
“Dude, I love it. How do you know my face so well?” You exclaimed.
“Uhhmm.. I guess, I just know your face.. It’s a nice face.” Mark was being coy, yet again.
“Oh” You felt the shy spread from the phone and into you.
“I uh.. like your face.. I.. think uhm.. I.. like you” He mumbled, almost incoherently but you caught it. You both held your breath in anticipation of your reaction. You could feel your heart in your ears and your smile so wide, your cheeks started to hurt.
“You like me?”
“Don’t make me say it again.”
“I guess, you’re okay too Mark.” You teased him playfully.
“Woooow” He acted fake hurt.
“Come say it to my face, if you not pussy.” You suddenly felt a wave of confidence take over you.
“Oh yeah? Bet. Be there in 15.” And before you could tell him you’re joking, he hung up the phone.
____________________________________________
Mark showed up at your door in exactly 15 minutes. You opened the door, staggering a little from being nervous. “Hi” You said with a smile.
“Hi” he walked in and you both stood there, in awkward silence. Not knowing what to say or how to stand, you both felt super nervous.
“You wanna uh.. go sit on the sofa?” You offered, walking over to the living room and Mark followed. You both sat comically far from each other, with body language stiff. Looking around the room, you tried to find something to make small talk about. As you opened your mouth to speak, so did Mark and you both cut each other off. The awkwardness was killing you. You both laughed a little.
“You go” You turn to finally face him.
“I was just gonna say um.. if you wanted to try the strain I got for you today.. but urm I mean.. we don’t have to.. only if you want to.. you know, whatever is cool with me” Mark rambled on as you nodded and got up to get the baggie.
Walking back in to the living room, he looked up at you. Eyeing you in your shorts and a baggy t- shirt. “And come sit next to me.” He patted his hand beside him and you sunk into the sofa.
Mark put his arm around you and used his other hand to lift up your chin to look at him. His eyes were soft yet intense. You had never seen this look in his face before and it made you feel dizzy.
“Hey you..” He smiled.
Mark wasted no time before taking your lips into his. All the air came out of your lungs and you melted into his touch. His lips were soft and tasted like strawberry candy. He moved his lips against yours, painfully slow before pulling back to look at you. “Hi” He pecked your lips and smiled. Leaning his head to the other side, he kissed you again, this time, a little harder. His hand moved from under your chin, to under your ear as he held your face and traced his tongue against your mouth. You opened your mouth some more, letting out a sigh into his mouth which went straight to his dick and he pushed his tongue in further, deepening the kiss. You both got lost in the kiss for a while there before pulling away and smiling at one another as if you’re already high. Even though, your lips were now disconnected. Your eyes stayed fixed on one another.
“You have really long lashes..” You said matter of factly, making Mark laugh.
“And you like me back” Nothing could stop you both from smiling like idiots at one another. It felt as if, nothing else mattered in this moment.
“I do.. I do...” You left another peck, not being able to get enough of him. Mark pulled his arm from over you to dig through his pocket. He pulled out the special pink papers and handed them to you to roll one.
____________________________________________
The room felt like it was slowly spinning into you, a vortex of your feelings towards mark floated around you and time came to a halt. Your heart grew ten sizes that night, beating outside of your being, covering the entire room. You wanted to absorb him into your heart. The only way to express this to him was to have him inside you. Thinking about it, you felt your underwear pool and you moaned into Mark’s mouth. He squeezed your thigh tighter as a response, which brought you back to this room. On this sofa. On his lap. Tongue in his mouth. It was only then you realised, how time became warped from when you started smoking and Mark pulled you in for another kiss. Everything had been a blur since then. All you could focus on was how in such a short amount of time, this boy had become so dear to you.
Mark’s hands went to your ass to give it a handful squeeze and he got up picking you up with him. He pecked your lips once again.
“Hi baby” he smiled, taking in your features in awe.
“You okay?”
“Hi” you cheesed back at him, pecking his nose in response. “Of course.”
Mark carried you over to the bed and laid you down gently. Moving your hair out of your face, he hovered over you.
“God, you’re so beautiful” his ran his index finger along the side of your cheek.
“From the day I met you dude, I knew I was gonna like you.” He kissed you all over your face, filling the space with your giggles.
“Gonna make you my girl.” His lips, once again, crashed down into yours and he settled between your legs. You could feel him on your thigh and it drove you crazy. Adding to your arousal, he slowly grinded into you. He held your waist, before slipping his hands inside your shirt and squeezed one of your breast, lighting pinching your nipples in between his fingers. You swore you could’ve came right then. He lifted your t-shirt up to admire your body further. His eyes hung low from the weed and his mouth slightly parted. He smiled.
“Dang! They are so beautiful. Nice to meet you.” He left kisses along your breast, making you giggle and feel more comfortable.
Mid-giggle, your breath got caught in your throat when Mark licked a stripe between your chest, taking your nipple in his mouth. The shock made you arch your back and run your fingers through his hair before grabbing it. You let out a moan and felt Mark smirk against your skin.
Working his way down to your body, he took your shorts off. Coming face to face with your absolutely dampened underwear, Mark’s light hearted expression changed.
“Your panties.. are ruined” His voice, barely a whisper.
You felt a shift in the atmosphere. The air became heavy and thick with lust. You felt yourself clench around nothing when Mark pressed his thumb into your heat to check if this was real life. His eyes a little wider, and breath heavier. Mark wasted no time as he used his index finger to slide your panties to the side.
“Oh hi” his voice cracked a little, indicating that he was trying very hard to keep things light- hearted but his head was also spinning from the lust. He needed you.
“Baby?” He looked up at you with a glint in his eyes.
“Yeah?” You asked, rubbing head lovingly.
“Can I eat it baby?”
All you could do was nod and Mark didn’t need to be told twice. He dove right in with his tongue, kissing your pussy all over. He settled on the clit, making you move your thighs on his shoulders.
Mark took that as a sign to grab you harder and he moved his face in a zig-zag motion in your pussy. With every moan, Mark moaned with you.
“Mm?”
“Does it feel good?”
He was absorbed in the act and it was now his turn to feel a vortex of his feelings slowly fade into him, from outside of him. The vibrations from his moan were only sending you over the edge and then he slipped his fingers inside you. You grabbed his hair again, letting him know he’s doing good. Mark was so focused, his eyebrows furrowed and mouth slightly open. He was studying your reactions to the different movements of his fingers. His eyes going from your face to your pussy and how it was sucking in his fingers. Mark felt entranced.
He was aching inside his sweats as he felt you cum on his tongue. Legs shaking around his head, hands grabbing at his hair for some sort of support. He took his other hand to find yours and interlocked his fingers with yours. Even though, you had came. Mark did not take a second to let you catch your breath as he carried on, making you cum twice more. He felt like he could’ve stayed in there forever. He was drunk of your taste and smell. Time was still warped for the both of you. It ceased to exist.
And when Mark was finally inside you. Both of you felt as though you have sunken into a cloud. With each thrust, you kept sinking, deeper and deeper. Going lower, and lower. The room was filled with your moans and the sound of how wet you were. You don’t think you legs ever stopped shaking from he first time, they had done that. “Oh my god, you feel so good.” Mark managed to get some words out, after a long time of scrunched up faces and moans. Mark felt like he was losing his mind. Every time you closed your eyes, you saw stars. You wrapped your legs around him and his movement staggered. “Wait.. wait.. you gonna make me cum like this.. turn over for me.” He placed a kiss on your cheek.
Now laying on your stomach, Mark slid into you once again. Immediately, realising that changing positions might have made things worse when he felt your ass cushion his thrusts, he fell onto your back and lightly bit your shoulder. Mark pounded into you with force, accepting his fate of climaxing very soon. His hand snaked onto your throat as he guided your head back so he could kiss you again. He lightly squeezed your throat as he pounded into you. Moans and curse words flew from both of your mouths and you felt him throb inside you. The movement, hitting your spot perfectly, made your legs shake once last time as you came around him and you swore Mark almost growled in your ear.
“Baby.. you’re pu..pushing me out.. ugh.. feels..s o.. good.” It wasn’t long before, he also came to his climax and pulled out, finishing all over your ass.
He collapsed on the side next to you as you both caught your breath and settled into giddy giggles again. “That felt like 10 years and 2 seconds, all at the same time.” You say, out of breath.
You were both so infatuated with one another. It was disgusting.
“Lemme get you a towel babe.” Mark groaned before getting up and walking over to the bathroom.
You admired his naked frame from the back. His muscly back and toned ass. He was sculpted by the gods and you just had this man moaning into your mouth. The thought of that made your core tingle again, confirming that this was only the first round of tonight.
“So.. Shakespeare, huh?” You called out to Mark from the bed, referring to his poem.
“Oh, he is the OG man.” You heard the water shut and he shouted back.
Walking back into the room in all his glory, now from the front. You admired him. “If you’re good, I’ll show you my stuff sometime.” He sank onto the bed and wiped your butt with the warm towel.

18+ MINORS DNI
Five years ago, the riot that had occurred within the prison was broadcasted over every news station. Reports of multiple inmates and Prison Guards were dead, there were more reported injuries. Wanda called Pepper, hoping to hear that she would never get the bad news, which she never did receive the bad news.
Five years, she carried on writing to them, telling them everything that had happened during her week, even telling them about the sucky dates that Nat kept setting her on. She even told them about her last interaction with Jarvis, that was only a few months ago.
“Wanda?” He smirked as they bumped into each other, Wanda tensed up at the sound of his voice. “How is Y/N? I’ve been meaning to visit them, congratulate them on making it to the NFL.” But then he chuckled. “But they never had the chance did they? Because they took the fall for you.”
“Please leave me alone.” Wanda whispered as he just laughed.
“Not so brave without a gun are we.” He sneered as she looked away from him. “It should be you in their place, you should be the one serving time for almost killing me.” Wanda just shook her head and walked away from him, the sound of his laugh remained in her mind for weeks after that.
But what she didn’t know was Y/N was now getting out on good behavior. They walked through the gates, seeing Nat leaning against her car, a smile on her face as she saw her oldest friend.
“Hey.” They gave her a small smile as she opened her arms for them.
“Hi.” She embraced them tightly, afraid to let go with the fear that they might disappear. “Let’s get you home.” They walked to the passenger side and got in, watching the roads as they passed by.
“How’s everyone been?” They asked her.
“Well, Morgan is now a troublesome teen. She missed you so much, the same as your mom.” She told them. “Oddly enough, your dad has tried to help get your release finalised sooner.” She noticed their shocked expression. “I know, I almost died too.”
“What about Wanda?” They asked her as she nodded, a tight lipped smile on her face. “She’s been sending me letters ever since I stopped her or anyone visiting me.”
“I know.” Nat told them. “She told me, she also told me you never replied to any of them.”
“I have written her letters.” Y/N told her. “I have them all here, but I just couldn’t send them to her.”
“Why?” Nat questioned as they looked out of the window.
“I wanted her to be able to move on, even if it meant that I was the one to let her go.” They admitted. “She knows how much I love her and I wanted her to live her life without ever thinking of me again.”
“It didn’t work though.” Nat started as Y/N nodded with a light chuckle.
“It didn’t, she told me about all of the dates you set her up on.” They spoke as they watched the road ahead. “She told me how she couldn’t bring herself to do anything more than one date with any of them.”
“Because she is in love with you.” Nat told them. “She just realised it too late, and you were too much of a coward to tell her.”
“I know.” They nodded. “I just couldn’t deal with losing her if she never felt the same way.”
“I know.” She nodded as they soon reached New York. Their heart started to beat rapidly as they realised that they don’t look the same as they did a decade ago, they have scars and look worn out compared to how they used to look.
“What if no one likes me now?” Y/N questioned as Nat chuckled.
“Believe me, everyone has missed you so much Y/N.” She told them. “Well, except Jarvis.”
“Please tell me he has finally moved away.” They groaned as Nat shook her head no.
“I’m afraid not.” She told them as she pulled into the Stark Mansion driveway.
“Fuck.” They muttered as they looked up at the place they called their home. “It looks even more intimidating now.”
“Yeah.” Nat laughed as she got out, followed by Y/N as they grabbed their bags, following Nat up the stairs to the door.
“Nat?” Pepper questioned as she answered the door.
“Mom?” Y/N smiled as they looked over Nat’s shoulder.
“Y/N?” She gasped as Nat moved to the side, taking Y/N’s bags and heading inside. “You’re home?”
“I’m home.” They told her, a smile on their face as she cupped their face, getting a proper look at them.
“You look rugged.” She told them.
“Yeah, I need to cut my hair.” They admitted as she shook her head
“I think you suit it.” She told them. “Come on, Morgan will be excited to see you.” She led them inside, listening as Morgan and Yelena were talking about their homework. “Morgan, look who’s here.” She told her as she let go of Y/N’s hand, Morgan’s eyes instantly landing on theirs.
“Y/N?” She squealed as she jumped up into their arms, Y/N chuckled as they caught her.
“Oh god.” Y/N hugged her close before letting her go. “You’ve grown so much.”
“Well, it has been 10 years now.” She reminded them as their heart broke a little.
“I missed you little one.” They told her softly as she hugged them tighter than before.
“Promise you won’t leave me again.” She whispered shakily.
“I’m not going anywhere.” They told her honestly. “I promise.”
“Come eat.” Pepper told them as Morgan led them into the dining room, Morgan catching Y/N up on everything they missed.
“You should have seen dad’s face when he found out that I wanted to be a writer.” Morgan told them with a smirk. “I thought he was going to pop a vein or something.”
“Well, he wasn’t happy that you were straying away from the family business.” Pepper stated.
“Just like he wasn’t happy with me when I strayed away from his dreams.” Y/N remarked as Pepper sighed, both Morgan and Nat remained silent. “Where is dad and Jarvis? I would have thought they could have been here, you know it has been 10 years after all.”
“Y/N, you know why your father isn’t here, same with Jarvis.” Pepper warned them.
“Yeah, they’re not happy because Wanda returned the ring when he was in the coma.” Morgan smirked as Nat and Y/N chuckled lightly.
“Your father and brother were devastated!” Pepper raised her voice. “Wanda would have been a fine addition to this family.”
“No.” Y/N shook their head. “She was too good for him.” Pepper went to interrupt but Y/N stopped her. “You know it too mom, Jarvis isn’t a nice guy, he never has been.”
“Y/N, he has changed.” She tried as Y/N snorted.
“And hell has frozen over.” Y/N remarked as Pepper shook her head in disapproval.
“Are you going to tell Wanda your back?” Nat questioned as Y/N tensed up.
“I don’t know.” They answered. “I have her letters there in my bag, but I don’t think she will want to see me.”
“She will.” Morgan told them. “She has been coming around to see how you are, if there has been any news.”
“She hasn’t moved on.” Nat told them. “I’ve tried to get her to go on dates and meet someone, just so she has someone and she doesn’t get past the first date.”
Y/N listened to them as they informed them of how Wanda has spent the last decade, how she has kept hope that she would see Y/N again, be with Y/N and have a future with them.
“Can you take me to Wanda’s?” Y/N asked Nat who only nodded with a smile.
“Let’s go then.” She told them, they kissed both Morgan and Pepper on the head before grabbing the bag with the letters for Wanda, and following Nat out to her car.
“How do you think she’ll react?” They asked her nervously.
“Well, I don’t really know.” Nat answered them. “She was furious that you did what you did for her. There was a brief moment she hated you but we all know she can’t hate you.” She sighed as she pulled up outside of Wanda’s building. “To be honest, she may be mad, she may be happy. It could go either way really.”
“That helps Natalia, really.” They spoke sarcastically as the two got out of the car. They followed her up the stairs to Wanda’s floor, wanting to take as much time as they could before seeing the woman they had failed to forget during their time in prison.
“Nat, what are you doing here?” Wanda asked as she answered the door to her, Y/N leaned on the wall as they heard her voice for the first time in years. Their heart beating rapidly in their chest as their nerves had gotten worse.
“Someone wanted to see you.” Nat told her. “They haven’t really stopped thinking about you or asking about you all day and it is kind of annoying.”
“You should have come later. I have company.” She told her with a raised brow.
“Is it Stu?” She asked with a raised brow.
“Yeah, he is just in the shower.” Y/N dropped the bag of letters on the floor as Nat noticed their expression falter before they started towards the exit.
“Well, I will want to hear all about it, but these are for you.” Nat handed her the bag of letters before she hurried after Y/N, she reached them as they leaned against the car waiting for her.
“You told me she wasn’t seeing anyone.” They told her sadly as Nat sighed.
“I thought she wasn’t, I set them up a couple of weeks ago and I never thought she would actually see him again because she never does.” Nat told them as they stepped away from the car.
“I’m going to walk home.” They told her as they stepped away. “I need to be alone right now.”
“Y/N, you’ve just got out, let’s celebrate.” Nat tried as they shook their head.
“Maybe it would have been better if I never survived the riot five years ago.” They told her.
“No.” She scolded them. “You do not get to say that! We have been friends forever and I hated the last decade! I hated it because my friend wasn’t here with me.” She took their hand. “Let’s go and see Steve and Bucky, there is a lot you have missed.” She led them to the car before starting their journey.
“What are those?” Stu asked as Wanda emptied the bag of letters on the table, organising them by date.
“Letters from Y/N.” She whispered as he picked one up.
“Why didn’t they ever send them?” He asked as she shrugged, standing up and getting herself a glass of wine.
“I don’t know.” She answered him, her eyes burning with years of unshed tears and emotions. “I think you should leave.” She told him as he laughed.
“Come on, Wanda, you can’t be serious.” He asked her. “We have been going out for a few weeks now, I asked you to be mine last night before we fucked.”
“Wow, real classy Stu.” She spat at him before she took a deep breath. “Maybe we need to take a step back.”
“No! That’s absurd!” He yelled as Wanda shook her head.
“No, what’s absurd is me thinking I could ever love someone else the way I love them.” She told him. “Please just leave and lose my number.” She told him as she held the door open for him, watching as he grabbed his things before approaching her.
“You’re going to regret this.” He told her as he stood before her.
“The only thing I regret is even giving us a chance.” She told him before slamming the door in his face, taking a deep breath as she locked the door and made her way back over to the letters.
She noticed from the first one, they had written to her since she had sent in her first letter to them. A small smile played on her lips at the idea of Y/N even having some hope for them.
Dear Wanda,
I know that this isn’t exactly a peak milestone in our friendship, but I think it should count. I got your letter and I am sorry that this happened to us. I just couldn’t picture you in here suffering for something that might have saved your life.
You’re my best friend, my biggest supporter, the ying to my yang.
Love Y/N/N
She smiled as she read their small letter, remembering how they could barely stand writing and always opted to call instead. But as she read the letters, she smiled at how much longer they had gotten.
Dear Wanda,
I know you probably hate me by now, I pushed you away when you needed me, but truthfully, you never really did need me. Seeing how you’ve written about your life this past couple of years has really made me proud. I am proud of the woman you have become Wanda and whoever is lucky enough to call you theirs should know it.
I know in another lifetime, maybe it did work out for us, maybe we would have worked out right now if I had the balls to tell you how I felt before college. Before you even thought of being with my brother. We could have had everything, maybe if I am lucky enough and you’re still single when I get out of here, we can have everything. I know that’s a pipe dream that’s never going to happen.
Love Y/N/N
Dear Wanda,
It’s been five years, and these five years have been the loneliest I have ever been. Yeah, I have a cellmate, Brock, he is a dick but he has my back. We have to look out for each other here or we could end up dead, believe me, there are some people here who hate my dad and they do tend to take it out on me because of my name and relationship with him, but it’s nothing I can’t handle.
There hasn’t been a day where I don’t think about you, Wanda. Everyday I wake up and wonder what you might be doing today, are you happy and healthy? Have you found that person that makes you smile as soon as you open your eyes? But on some selfish level, I wish that you are as alone as me, I wish that maybe you’re waiting for me to get out of here, but that is all just wonders.
Love Y/N/N
Wanda couldn’t bring herself to read the next letter, given there is a two month pause in between them. Not wanting to read the extent of the injuries they suffered during that riot, the nightmares that occured after or the horror they witnessed.
“It’s so good to have you back!” Bucky cheered as he pulled Y/N into a tight embrace.
“Have you been to see Wanda? I’m sure she will be so thrilled.” Steve started as he pulled them into his embrace.
“We did.” Y/N told them with a small smile. “She had company.”
“She never saw Y/N, they just dropped the letters they wrote to her and left.” Nat told the couple.
“Was it Stu?” Steve questioned as Nat nodded.
“I don’t like him.” Bucky blurted out, making everyone laugh. “What? He is a pompous dick.”
“I can agree with that.” Nat nodded as Y/N looked out of the window.
“Y/N, I have something to show you.” Steve said as he led Y/N away from the other two, closing the door to his office before turning to them. “Talk to me.”
“About what?” They asked him.
“About how you feel.” He spoke softly. “I’ll be here to listen, a shoulder to lean on because I can see that you’re trying your hardest to put on a brave face.”
“I am anxious.” They started as they picked up a picture of Steve and Bucky on their wedding day, a smile on their face as they admired the picture. “I have spent the last decade a nervous wreck, barely a few hours of sleep each night, the threats that I received because of the amount of people who knew who I really was, thinking that The Great Tony Stark will pay out millions to ensure his child’s safety.” Steve just listened as they rambled on. “And tonight, I don’t know how I’m going to deal with the nightmares. The last five years have been ok because I have been in a cell on my own, but I am home and I don’t want anyone to see me like that.”
“I don’t know how bad your nightmares are, but you have a lot of support here, your sister, mom and you have all of us. All we want is to help you through this because you have suffered a great deal while you have been inside.” He told them. “You won’t be alone ok.” He pulled them in for another hug before they pulled away quickly.
“I missed your wedding!!” They yelled as Steve nodded with a laugh. “I can’t believe I missed everything!!”
“It’s ok.” He smiled at them before resting his hand on the door handle. “Talk to Wanda, you never know what will happen tomorrow. You of all people should know that.”
Wanda stood at the step of the Stark Residence, knocking frantically, after reading the letter they wrote after the riot, she wanted to know why no one told her of their injuries.
“Wanda?” Morgan questioned as Wanda gave her a smile.
“Hi, is your mom here?” She asked the teen politely.
“Yeah, come in.” She let the now brunette inside, leading her to the living room where Pepper sat reading the paper.
“Wanda, what are you doing here?” Pepper questioned. “I would have thought you would be out with everyone celebrating.”
“Why would I be celebrating?” She questioned as Pepper raised a brow.
“Y/N’s home.” Was all she said before the door opened again, Wanda turned in time to see Y/N enter the living room. Her eyes stung with tears waiting to be shed as Y/N’s eyes widened, their heart beating rapidly in their chest as Pepper cleared her throat. “I think you two should talk.” She got up and grabbed Morgan’s wrist. “We are going out for dinner.” With that, Wanda was left in the house alone with Y/N.
“Hello, my love.” They gave her a nervous smile. “Do you want a drink?” They asked her as she just shook her head, her eyes never leaving their form. “Well, I need one.” She followed them into the kitchen, watching as they grabbed the whiskey and poured themselves a glass.
“You look different.” Wanda told them as they chuckled.
“Well, it has been 10 years.” They chuckled as they turned to face her.
“Don’t do that.” She told them firmly. “Don’t make it seem like this is all on me. I wanted to wait for you, fight for you, for us, because you were the one who pushed me away.”
“Because I wanted you to live your life Wanda! You deserve to find your happiness and not be constantly haunted by the thought of us!” They yelled as she chuckled dryly.
“Is that why you never sent me any of those letters? You just kept them in a bag thinking I would never read them.” She spat as she stepped closer to them.
“I wanted you to move forward Wanda. I wanted you to live your life and not wait on me.” They told her softly.
“I was willing to wait for you because I loved you!” She poked their chest. “I really loved you.” With that she left the house, leaving a sad Y/N behind.
“She just left?” Morgan asked as she sat beside Y/N on the sofa.
“Yep.” They nodded as Morgan chuckled lightly.
“I would have thought she would have jumped your bones after not seeing you for years.” She told them as they nudged her arm.
“Hey! Don’t talk like that.” They scolded her as she gave them a serious look.
“I’m not 6 anymore Y/N.” She told them. “I’m 16 now, but you wouldn’t know that, I haven’t had a happy birthday off of you in 10 years.” With that she stormed up to her room as Pepper walked in.
“Just give her time.” She told them. “She missed you so much when you were arrested, she cried every night for you.”
“I’m sorry mom.” They whispered as they looked at Pepper who only smiled.
“You have nothing to apologise for.” She told them. “I know the truth of what really happened. Nat told me, and then Wanda did.” Y/N sat and listened to her as she spoke. “I know what your brother is capable of, I know what he did to Wanda too and why she did it.” She turned to face them as she spoke. “I also understand why you did what you did, although I was furious with you, because you threw away your career for someone.”
“It wasn’t just someone.” Y/N remarked as Pepper smiled at them.
“I know that, I remembered seeing how you looked at her, how much you hated every guy she ever dated, how they were never good enough for her.” She told them. “I know you more than anyone, but you need to get your feelings in order because that girl has waited for you for 10 years.”
“She’s with someone.” Y/N told her sadly. “She told Nat and the guys.”
“Fight for her.” She told them. “Don’t give up on the one thing that gave you hope!” She pulled them up to their feet. “Go, now!” She handed them their keys, a smile appearing on their face. “I kept it looked after all these years, I may have neglected my own car just to keep yours running.”
“Thank you mom.” They whispered as they hugged her, soon racing their way to Wanda’s apartment, remembering the address and the number. Racing up the stairs, soon standing outside her door. Knocking frantically and waiting impatiently for her to answer it.
“What are you doing here?” She asked them as they gave her a small smile.
“The way we left it the other day, it shouldn’t have been left like that.” They rambled as she fought the smile that wanted to appear. “We both should be happy to see each other, not argue over something so small.”
“Would you like to come inside?” Wanda asked them. “I have a fresh pot of coffee on.”
“I would like that.” They smiled as she stepped aside, allowing them inside. They followed her through to her kitchen, admiring the decor and the pictures she had on the wall. “I got your letters.” They told her. “They uh got me through a lot of tough times.”
“Why didn’t you ever send your letters?” She asked them as they sighed, thanking her for the cup.
“I thought that maybe you would forget about me. Move on with your life without me.” They told her honestly. “I guess, I just thought that maybe you would be married to a great guy with a family of your own.”
“I couldn’t.” Wanda whispered as she looked in their eyes. “I tried to move on, I did but my heart belonged to you.” She exhaled sharply before continuing. “It still does.”
“Wanda.” They whispered as they soon pulled her in for a tight hug, Wanda sighed as she felt their strong arms around her middle. The two remained in this position for a long moment, neither wanting it to end just yet.
“Sit with me.” Wanda said as she soon dragged them to sit on the sofa, her head leaning on her hand as she gazed at them. “You have some scars.” She lightly touched their face as she looked into their eyes.
“Well, the riot wasn’t the only violence I had experienced.” They told her honestly. “I had a few run-ins with some of the inmates, and they weren’t exactly nice.”
“I think you look hot.” She whispered as they soon removed her hand from her.
“You’re in a relationship.” They told her, watching as she shook her head no.
“I ended it last week, the day Nat gave me your letters.” She told them honestly. “I knew there was no sense in moving on because I should be with you, Y/N.”
“You can’t say that and expect me not to kiss you.” They told her barely above a whisper, caressing her face as she smiled at them.
“What if I want you to kiss me?” She replied, biting her lip as she felt their hot breath fanning over her face. Y/N wasted no time in pressing their lips onto hers, kissing her roughly before she straddled their lap, soon spending the night exploring each other’s bodies.
Y/N listened as there was constant yells and banging from outside the cell, sharing a look with Brock who got his own homemade shiv from under his pillow. Watching as he disappeared onto the walkway, yelling profanities as he swung his weapon around.
Y/N listened to the pained yellings of injured inmates, the triumphant shouts of others as they stepped out of their cell, looking over the railings to see the guards also fighting for their lives. It wasn’t until they looked to their left, seeing someone charge at them, sending them over the edge and onto the lower level. Groaning as they turned over just in time to stop another stabbing them.
“Y/N!” They heard Brock call out to them, struggling against two fellow inmates. “Y/N!”
“Y/N.” They soon jolted awake and fell out of the bed, a worried Wanda looked over the edge. “Are you ok?” She asked them as they got up, climbing back in the bed and nodding.
“Yeah, it was just a nightmare.” They told her.
“Do you want to talk about it?” She asked them as she rested her head on their chest.
“I’m fine.” They told her. “Let’s get some sleep.”
“Is it about the riot?” She asked them as they took a deep breath. “I saw your other scars, I just want you to know that you can talk to me.” She told them softly. “I am not going anywhere.”
“It’s just, there was someone who I could have saved.” They told her. “My cellmate, Brock, he always had my back. Always stuck by me, even though he had every possibility to kill me to get in good with others who wanted me dead.” Wanda watched as they spoke, her fingers tracing mindless patterns on their skin. “He died, trying to help me. I wasn’t supposed to survive that riot, I was supposed to bleed out beside him but the guards, they shut it down.” Wanda took their hand in hers. “I was lucky, this scar here.” They pointed to the scar on their chest. “This was my end.”
“I’m so sorry.” Wanda whispered as they shook their head. “It should have been me who went to prison, not you.”
“I would make the same choice every time.” They told her softly. “I would do anything for you Wanda. I always will.” She cupped their cheek as she moved to sit up, the moonlight cascading over her naked form as she looked deep into their eyes. Noses brushing together as she leaned in to kiss them lovingly, the bodies pressed together as Y/N wrapped their arms around her, making her feel safe and complete for the first time in her life. Only they know what their future holds for the two.
Five Years Later
Y/N was looking around for their belt and work boots frantically, nervous about this job as it is a big job for them.
“Wanda! Have you seen my?” Their words were lost in their throat as they saw a four year old Tommy waddling around in their boots and their belt hanging from his waist. “What do we have here little fella.” They smiled as they picked the toddling child up into their arms.
“I’m so sorry, I tried to keep him away from your things.” Wanda ran in frantically as Y/N only smiled at her.
“It’s ok.” They smiled as they kissed the side of Tommy’s head. “I am my own boss after all.” They pressed a tender kiss to her lips.
“I made your lunch.” She told them as she packed their bag with sandwiches and a flask of coffee as they finished getting themselves ready.
“Thank you.” They smiled as they finally stood up, ready for work. “My mom said she will have the twins tonight and maybe we can have a little date night.”
“I already promised Nat I would go out.” Wanda spoke seriously as Y/N’s smile faltered. “I can cancel if you want me to.”
“No, you should go and let your hair down.” They told her softly. “At least don’t drink too much and call me when you want to be picked up.”
“I will.” She kissed them once more before Billy came running into their arms, hugging them tightly before the three of them waved Y/N off as they drove their truck to the site, meeting Bucky already there and ready for work.
“So how is the wife and kids?” Bucky asked them with a smile.
“They are great, although Tommy seems to have taken a liking to my boots.” They told him honestly as they finished their last job for the day. “My mom is having the twins tonight and Wanda is going out with Nat.”
“So, you have the house to yourself.” He smirked as Y/N chuckled.
“I guess I can do some of the jobs that need doing and I haven’t gotten around to.” They shrugged as Bucky nodded.
“Or you can just sit back and relax.” He told them. “You’re not in prison now Y/N, besides, you served your sentence.”
“Not really though.” They shrugged as Bucky shook his head, the two standing up getting ready to leave. “I only finished half of my sentence.”
“But you got out.” Bucky told them. “You’re free to live your life, watch your family grow. Don’t dwell on the past.”
“I’m not.” They defended as Bucky followed them to the truck.
“You are.” He told them seriously. “Look, I don’t know half of what happened inside but I do know that you have the life you have always dreamed of with Wanda and the twins. Yeah, you may not have your dream job but that’s ok. You just have to make the most of the life you have now.”
Y/N took in his words before the two went their separate ways, he was right because they have always dreamed of living this life together with Wanda. Having a family with her and they have it all.
“I thought you were going out?” Y/N asked as they saw Wanda coming out from the kitchen, a dish of their favorite meal in her hands.
“I can go out with Nat anytime, but I want to spend the night with you.” She told them. “I cooked your favorite.” She told them as they smiled at her.
“Thank you.” They told her as they approached her, their hands wrapping around her waist. “For waiting for me and making me the happiest person alive.”
“I love you Y/N.” She told them sincerely as she looked in their eyes. “I will always love you until my dying days, and even in the afterlife, I will love you.” They captured her lips in a gentle kiss before she pushed them away, a teasing smirk on her face. “Go and shower, I’ll keep the dinner warm.”
“I love you Wanda Maximoff.” They told her. “You have always been the light of my life.” She blushed as they ascended the stairs to their shared bedroom, the walls were lined with pictures, from the memories they had made together, some from before they left for college, and more from when they had come back into her life. The moments they had shared together which made their hearts glow as one, even brighter the moment they brought the twins into the world, making their family complete.

WC: 1.6k
Summary: Your friend introduces you to his best friend who just happens to be a pro idol (I love it when he calls himself that) Lee Know!
Warnings: None! It's just some cute fluff about Lee Know
Lee Know x afab!Reader (strangers to lovers)
You loved the coffee shop you lived above. The owner was a sweet old lady who absolutely adored you, bringing you cookies occasionally or you went to her shop just to talk for hours. It always warmed your heart talking to her, and in exchange for all the free coffee she would give you, you would help out on weekends. She would let you close up any time you wanted on the days you worked, knowing how much you loved snuggling up in your special corner of her shop, Lonely St., with the cafe’s cat.
It was an average weekend for you, it was 10 at night and you sat in your favorite spot next to the window reading a book. The fall air was freezing, causing you to bundle up in an oversized sweatshirt and sweatpants. You loved it, the smell of coffee still wafting through the air. Harold, the cafe’s cat, was snuggled up in your lap purring occasionally as you rubbed behind his ears. As you became more and more immersed in your book you were oblivious to the jingling of the door until someone coughed. You quickly got up, marked your page, and ran to the counter.
In entered your close friend, Heejin, with someone else. “Hi,” you ran up to him, embracing him in a hug. He always smelled like cinnamon for some reason and it brought you such comfort. You both became friends through work, since you both sat next to one another and he had a picture of a cat on his desk, you slowly became friends. “Hi y/n,” he said while pinching your cheeks, he always did this, acting like your older brother even though he was only 7 months older than you. “I brought my best friend from my hometown to check this place out, please tell me you guys still have pudding cups because I promised him you guys have some of the best in all of the area.”
You look up to see none other than Lee Know and to say you were a bit awestruck was an understatement. You turned to Heejin and whispered in his ear, “You are friends with the Lee Minho and you didn’t tell me, some friend you are!” and he just chuckled.
“Sorry, about that,” you said with an apologetic smile “My name is y/n, it’s very nice to meet you. I am a big fan of your guys’ music.” He just gave you a small smile. “Oh right,” you exclaimed “you are here for our famous pudding! The owner of the shop makes it fresh every morning. I am almost a hundred percent sure we have at least one left!” You ran over to the fridge looking inside to make sure that there was still the one you saw thirty minutes ago while you were cleaning.
“Here you are, free of charge since we were going to throw it out anyways,” you handed it to him. Heejin looked at you disappointed, “where is mine?” You just looked at him “Did you forget about what happened last time that warrants me from ever giving you free food?”
“How was I supposed to know that I can’t microwave tin-foil” he groaned “it doesn’t look like a metal.” You just glared at him as Minho chuckled in the background, sitting down and taking a scoop of the pudding. “This is really good, Heejin why haven’t you been bringing me this when you visit me?” he asked with a dead serious face “I thought you were supposed to be the loving boyfriend in this relationship” he pouted.
“Wow Heejin, cheating on me? What would Chip think, wait until he finds out his favorite person is no longer talking to his owner,” you said with a giggle. “HEY!” Heejin shouted “I’m my cat’s favorite person” Minho just rolled his eyes, “You know he loves me the most, you both keep lying to yourselves.” You just giggled as you and Heejin joined Minho at the table, sitting down.
You guys began talking, about everything and everything. How Heejin and you met, how Minho and he became friends, their adventures to Japan, and how it was being an idol. Before you knew it, it had become one in the morning. Harold was snuggled up beside Minho, and you were getting a bit tired, thinking about the long day ahead of you. “I guess we should get going Heejin,” Minho said, stretching a bit. “It was very nice meeting you y/n, I hope to see you again and next time buy some more pudding,” he said with the biggest grin in his life.
He was so cute you thought to yourself, but you shouldn’t think like this. He was an idol and you didn’t have a chance, it would be cool you thought to yourself. You said goodbye to them, closing up the shop and going back to your apartment, not knowing Heejin introducing you to Minho would shift your entire life.
 It had been a couple of months since you first met Minho, at first you didn’t think much of it. You knew he was busy being one of the biggest idols in Korea and thought you would never see him again, but you were so wrong.
Every weekend he would come to the shop at 11 pm on the dot, he never missed a Saturday. It was your new regular pattern, instead of curling up with a book, you would talk to Minho about anything and everything under the sun for hours. Sometimes Heejin would be there, but sometimes he wouldn’t.
In the back of your mind, you would find yourself falling for Lee Know. The way he would talk with such adoration about his cats, or his wild stories about the other members of his group, you would always pay full attention. You loved the ways he would joke around, but you would often feel flustered at times when he talked to you.
You were already a big fan of his music and his personality prior to meeting him, but getting to know him amplified your feelings tenfold, you knew he wouldn’t look at you like that. You liked the comfort of having him as a friend too much to risk that relationship. That’s why you never acted on any of your emotions, no matter how infatuated you were with him.
You would feel your cheeks getting red whenever he would compliment your outfit that day or when he tried your new recipe and gave you feedback. You guys often talked about desserts, it always ended up with him promising you that he would bring you one of Felix’s famous brownies. “They are literally the best thing I have ever eaten, like genuinely, I will bring you one the next time he makes them.”
He ended up upholding that promise the second month you guys became friends. He looked you straight in the eyes while you took a bite. His eyes transfixed on you to see your reaction. “These are amazing, please ask him for the recipe for me,” you said with a grin and that was the first time he looked at you in a different light.
For Minho, it was hard to talk to people, to open up with people he didn’t grow up with especially because he did not know if they had his best interest at heart. He was scared that people only liked him for his status, and was scared to make new connections. When he first met you, he was scared. Heejin had told him that he made a new friend whom he wanted him to meet. “She’s so sweet, and the embodiment of a homebody, so don’t worry she won’t say anything”
He put himself in what he called “idol mode” straight-faced and straight to the point, thinking that he would just say Hi to you, get some pudding, and leave with Heejin. What he did not anticipate was loving your personality, how you could listen to him for hours while still engaging with him, unafraid to ask questions. You didn’t use anything against him either, at first he was scared that you would tell dispatch about his stories, but it was quite the opposite, you guys trusted each other.
You wouldn’t even bring up the stories he shared with you in front of Heejin, afraid that Minho had not already told Heejin.  That’s what got him to keep coming back to you every weekend. He thought of you as one of his close friends, someone he could confide in, that was until a night in the middle of February. The weather was cool and he had just come over, taking off his scarf, and could not find you.
You rushed from the kitchen, flour on your face and apron, and that was when he knew he was whipped. He should have known it from the beginning, how you were slowly becoming his favorite person to confide in, but at that moment he knew he wanted more. He wanted to snuggle up next to you like you did with Harold. He wanted to bake with you and be there when you made the new recipes you showed him. He didn’t care about being an idol at that moment, walking towards you, and taking your face in his hand.
“What are you doing?” you asked cocking your head to the side a bit. “What I should have done months ago,” he replied placing a kiss on your lips.

Hidden Hearts Reunited
A Mikey x reader oneshot (part 1)
-- You were Manjiro's first and closest friend, before Baji, Sanzu, or Draken. You were there. Your mothers were friends, meaning you were destined to be friends either way. You spent every second together since birth, a result of both mothers planning the deliveries on the same day. They realized a distinct difference between you and Manjiro, like night and day; you and Manjiro are polar opposites. Unlike Manjiro, who was always crying and screaming, you were quiet with a cute smile on your little round face. Manjiro would constantly cling onto you, as toddlers, crying louder if you were ever separated. Both mothers gushed at his actions. He would share his toys only with you and sleep peacefully next to you. It was an unbreakable bond between the both of you, from birth --
Tumblr media
You walked hand in hand as you made your way to the hospital to visit Manjiro's mothers, who had fallen ill.
"You know, we don't have to keep holding hands, we aren't toddlers anymore." You spoke with a hushed and gentle voice, barely audible only for Manjiro to hear, as you both crossed the street.
"No friggin' way, how else is everyone supposed to know you're mine." He scoffed as if you said something so ridiculous.
"...Manjiro, I'm not a thing to be claimed." You delivered with a straight face.
"I didn't say that, I mean you're my girl. No one else is supposed to hold your hand except for me." The little boy pouted, explaining in a confident, matter-of-fact tone.
"Well, if that means that you're mine also, I don't mind." Your soft voice brought him comfort, as you tightened your little hands grip on his. Manjiro's cheeks flushed with a warm, rosy hue as your words, expressed in a soft and reassuring voice, reached his ears.
"We're here! C'mon, I can't wait to see her!" Manjiro pulled you behind him as he made a beeline to his mothers hospital room.
"Manjiro, we're in a hospital, keep it down!" You whisper shouted at him.
You sat next to Manjiro as he rambled to his mother about how he beat up a couple of new guys, he always counted the days from week to week to tell her about his stories. On the other you examine his mother, somehow, she seemed different, a lot weaker and sickly. Her hands were cold as she brushed them against your cheek,
"How about you, my little angel?" She asked,
"I'm good, but... I miss you. When are you coming back home?" Your tone is gentle, pleasing to the ears, as you leaned further into her touch despite the coldness of her hand.
Without uttering a word in response, she bent down, gently pressing a kiss on your forehead. Then, with a tender gesture, she drew both you and Manjiro into her embrace, casting a meaningful gaze at both of you.
"Promise me something, you two, please never leave each other's side. Manjiro, you're strong, so protect Y/n. And Y/n you're kind and tender, please soften his heart."
"Huh? Mom, what's that supposed to mean?" He whined and pouted, as you giggled at his facial expression.
That was beginning of it all—the pact that bound both you and Manjiro, the curse intertwining your lives.
As memories lingered from that day at the hospital with Manjiro's mother, the promise made to her weighed heavily on your heart as you made your way to the Sano home without anyone's knowledge, especially Mikey, you went to Manjiro's older brother, Shinichiro and grandpa, to break the news, the upcoming move due to family issues. Despite your attempt to stay quiet and secretive, Manjiro overheard, and the news shattered him. What was he supposed to do now with his mothers promise? And you, you couldn't leave. You were with him from day one, literally. The thought made his throat tighten, but what could he do?
Years passed, and life took unexpected turns, finding yourself back in Japan due to the loss of your parents and your sole remaining relative, your aunt, residing in Japan. Involuntarily, the memories of your past resurfaced, a certain ache in your heart also resurfaced. You couldn't shake the question of whether you could find him ever again in the bustling streets of Shibuya. The thought of your first and only friend lingered in your mind, who you never forgot, wondering if fate would bring you together once more, this time, forever.
"What the hell am I thinking, he probably hates me now."
"Y/n!" You heard your aunt call out, as she approached you with open arms.
Your turned to your caller only for the air to be knocked from your lung with he unexpectedly strong hug, as she continued,
"Oh look at you, all grown up and beautiful!" She exclaimed dreamily.
You smiled, accepting her inviting hug, missing the feeling of being embraced by someone loving, especially after your recent loss.
"C'mon, I made plenty of food at home!" She urged as she grabbed your bags, one in each hand.
"W-wait, let me help, those are kinda heavy-" You reached out to grab one of your bags, but she lightly smacked your hand away.
"What do I look like to you, an old hag?" She picked up both bags with ease.
Woah...she's strong..
You soon realized why she's so strong when you reached her house,
"You live here!" You said, a little shocked by the fancy look home.
"Yep, my earnings from years of hard work." She said walking through the front gate and further inside.
You looked around like a child in a candy store, admiring everything around you. The garden, the nicely mowed grass and bushes. Once you stepped inside, your jaw gapped a little. After a tour of the house, she took you to a room, where the only thing in it was a hatch,
"You're not gonna kill me, are you?"
"Are you crazy, why would I kill my only niece? You're like the child that I never had." She said flicking your forehead, she smirked before she continued,
"It's a surprise, just climb down." She said as she opened it,
Climbing down, you were surprised to be met with a built-in Gym underground.
Oh, makes sense why she's so toned now
"Prepare yourself because I'm not raising no scrawny girl, I'm gonna make you tough, kiddo."
"hUh?" You're voice cracked,
After showing you your room and helping you put your stuff away, you finally sat down and had dinner with your aunt. She was going on about her life and you were invested, truly.
"So tell me, kiddo, how's life been for you?"
"Hmm, I manage." You answered, shrugging a little.
She gave you an unpleasant look before booing, "Boo, tomato, c'mon I know you got more than that."
"Well, what do you want to know about me, auntie?" You asked, laughing a little between your words.
She smiled as she thought,
There it is, she smiled...are you happy sister? I made her smile for you
"What are you looking forward to, here in Tokyo, I could take you anywhere you want."
It took you a second to think before you said, "I wanna go to a specific restaurant actually."
Your aunt looked visibly hurt, "D-do you not like my cooking?"’
The tears in the corners of her eyes made you choke before you frantically shook your head,
"N-no not at all, I promise! It's just...it was my favorite restaurant when I was kid, I always went with...my friend."
"Okay! First thing tomorrow, I'll take you there then." She said, giving you a warm smile,
Well, she changed pretty quick..
"...seriously, this is your go-to place?" She regarded you with an intrigued expression, raising doubts about your choice in restaurants.
“And here I thought you were gonna take us to some gourmet restaurant.” she added as you entered.
A sudden wave of bittersweet nostalgia washed over you, fueled by cherished memories associated with the restaurant.
"Oh, there are people here?" Your aunt expressed surprise.
That shouldn’t be a surprise…
Feeling a bit disheartened by her continual disapproval of the place, you sighed as you made your way to an empty booth. As your eyes scanned the area, they landed on a somewhat shorter boy, with you appearing a little taller than him. His long blonde hair was tied at the top, while the strands on the sides flowed freely. Accompanying him was a more intimidating figure, a boy with a tattoo on the side of his shaved head. They exude an air of trouble, and you realized you had been staring for too long when your eyes met with his pitch-black, piercing gaze. The eye contact lingered long enough for your aunt to shake your shoulder, snapping you out of it, and for his friend to call his name, breaking the sudden connection.
“Mikey..”
As you proceeded to your assigned booth, you couldn't resist one last glance backward, catching his intense gaze. A flicker of recognition sparked deep within your heart. Despite sensing a profound connection, you carried on your chosen path, unaware of the unspoken longing, as the passage of years had erased the memories that once tethered you together. While enjoying your kids' meal, you intermittently picked at your food, occasionally looking up to meet that same compelling gaze. It felt as if your existence was being drawn in, your heart pounding almost painfully in your chest.
Why..Why the hell is he just so…
“Damnit Mikey, what the hell is wrong with you?” His friend asked, annoyed by his sudden absence.
He turned towards that, which seemed to distract mikey, and there you were. Feeling a bit intimidated, you quickly averted your gaze, avoiding his friend's scrutiny.
"Are you planning to order something?" you inquired, using the question as a means to divert your attention.
"No way," she exclaimed, eyeing your food suspiciously. "Let's leave. I'll take you to a proper restaurant," she asserted with confidence.
"Sure, let's go," you responded promptly, rising from your seat.
Your aunt expressed surprise, "Wait, really? I didn't expect you to agree so quickly. Alright then!"
As you both left, she remarked, "Y/n, don't forget to remind me to take you to a clothing store later."
"Y/n... Y/n... Y/N!" He murmured softly. Before he could comprehend, his legs carried him forward, propelled by an instinctive force.
NO WAY, NO FUCKING WAY
"Y/N!" He called out, breathless from his sprint to catch up.
Halted by the unexpected call, you abruptly turned around. On the opposite side of the street, he came into view.
It can’t be…
Time stood still as if the universe held its breath. After years apart, your name lingered in his memory, indelible and unforgettable. In that suspended moment, all else faded away.
“Manjiro...?” you whispered. He didn't need to hear your voice; just from reading your lips, he knew you called out to him..

Summary: You attend a party with Annie, only to run into Reiner unexpectedly. Mistakes are made and once again, Eren is to your rescue, this time more than ever before. Author’s Notes: Thank you for your patience with this! Sorry this took a while to get out. What do we think of this chapter? Juicy? Messy? Let me know! Likes, reblogs, and/or comments are always appreciated, thanks so much for supporting this slow burn of a story. I promise, next chapter is (finally) spicy! Enjoy!
Tumblr media
You’re already dreading tonight as you walk beside Annie towards an off-campus party house. Your roommate managed to coax you into going out tonight, the first time all semester. You were reluctant at first, unsure if you’re truly in the mood for booze and mingling. Then they told you it’s a party for Armin’s birthday, which piqued your interest. That’s because you’re certain that Eren, Armin’s best bud and your special friend, is going to be there.
He came to your door in tears about two weeks ago after telling his parents about changing his major. Obviously, it didn’t end well. Since then, his father hasn’t reached out to him. His mother said that he, “Needs time to come around.” How cruel can a parent be, to discount their child’s emotions all to live out some legacy they think is worth pursuing? And for what? Money and notoriety?
You held him in your arms that night, only letting go when Annie returned to the room, making all types of snide remarks. Eventually, the two of you retreated into his room, where you ate leftover pasta while Eren recounted exactly what happened. You stayed with him until he fell asleep on his bed, watching him from the desk as his eyelids fluttered into a peaceful slumber, one that was well-needed and deserved after the emotional night he experienced.
The fallout has him freaked out, naturally. He’s put a pause on his plans, even reconsidering the whole thing. While he knows in his heart that it’s the best option for him, he can’t escape the never-ending need to please his father. For now, he’s prioritizing his upcoming exams and projects to get himself through the semester, one day at a time. Baby steps, you tell him. Baby steps.
As the two of you approach the door, the bass of loud music already reverberating through the exterior, Annie turns the handle, entering the house. It’s already packed with other students, a few you recognize, most of whom you don’t. As you make your way through the crowd, Annie stands on her tiptoes to see if she can spot the birthday boy. “He’s in the kitchen,” she announces, leading you into the next room.
Armin stands against the counter beside a girl with black hair, sipping on their drinks. You walk up to them, Armin exclaiming, “Annie! You made it!” He launches forward, wrapping her in a snug embrace. Her cheeks flush from the unexpected affection.
You wave at his friend, introducing yourself. She eyes you curiously, returning your greeting. “I’m Mikasa. I recognize your name. Do you know my brother, Eren Jaeger?”
“Yes, I do. He’s my RA, actually.”
She smirks. “I see. He told me about you.”
“Me?” you ask, caught off guard.
“Yeah. Says you’re a really good friend. He’s been keeping you hidden like some sort of treasure, so it’s nice to finally meet you.”
Before you can respond, Eren’s voice rings out, “Mikasa! What are you doing?!” He’s at the other side of the room, hastily pushing his way through the party goers. When he arrives, he nudges her. “Don’t embarrass me in front of my favorite resident.”
“You’re the one who’s embarrassing yourself! We were only talking..”
He looks at you, laughing. “I hope my sister wasn’t harassing you.”
You smile at him, flustered by him calling you his favorite resident. “She’s not.”
She pokes her elbow into his ribs playfully. “See? I’m being good. Now, if you really want to know, I’ve got almost fifteen years of dirt on him.”
With a brow raised, you reply, “Oh, I’m all ears.”
“There’s no way I’m letting this happen unsupervised,” Eren teases, moving to stand next to you, his arm pressed to yours.
They share stories about their childhood, including how the two of them met Armin on the school playground, saving him from bullies. You enjoy this glimpse into Eren’s life; it makes you feel closer to him. A few times during the conversation, his hand slides over yours for emphasis as he elaborates on a tale. It sets your skin ablaze, alarming and exhilarating all at once. Annie hands you a drink that you don’t bother consuming it, too enthralled by Eren’s overwhelming presence. You almost want to pull him into a private room and keep him all to yourself.
It switches in a flash when you hear the familiar voice and that dreadful nickname. “Coco?” Reiner stands by the fridge, staring at you with a bottle of beer in his hand. “What are you doing here?”
How reckless of you to forget that Reiner and Armin are in the same fraternity. Of course he’s here. They’re brothers. All the elation you felt up until this point sinks into the floor, along with your feet heavy on the tiles, unable to move. You despise how helpless you are around him, body shutting down or reacting in ways beyond your control. He’s got a firm grip on you without physically touching you.
Eren clears his throat, readjusting his posture to stand straight. “It’s a party. So she’s here to party.”
Reiner glares at him. “Who are you?”
“I’m her friend.”
“I thought you were her RA.”
“Sounds like you remember me then,” Eren replies, smirking.
There’s tightness in your chest as you hold your breath, anticipating his next move. Sensing your panic, Eren brushes his hand across yours, squeezing. This doesn’t go unnoticed. Reiner lunges forward, shouting, “Hey, hey! Don’t touch her!” He grabs you by the arm, pulling you towards him and away from Eren.
Mikasa grasps your other side, tugging you back. “Reiner, what the fuck?”
The commotion has gotten the attention of the rest of the room, hushing their own conversations to check out what’s going on. Reiner pleads, “Coco, we have to talk. Let’s go somewhere private.”
Still speechless, you try to keep your feet planted to the floor, unwilling to follow. Your knees give in as he drags you with him. Another hand holds you; it’s Eren, who’s staring at Reiner with an expression you’ve never seen before on his otherwise happy-go-lucky face. “You’re hurting her. Let her go.“
“Stay out of our fucking business,” he growls, fingers digging deep into your flesh.
You do your best to yank yourself from his clutches. “Reiner, that hurts.”
As soon as you say it, he lets go, apologizing. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”
Mikasa shoves him, separating you farther. “What is your problem?”
Bertolt appears, towering over everyone, standing behind his friend. “Hey, let’s go get some air or something.”
Reiner ignores him. “Coco, please. I just want to talk,” he begs.
Annie huddles beside you, immediately in fight mode. “What the fuck are you doing?”
Everything is moving in a blur. The only thing clear to you is Eren’s soothing voice in your ear, his lips grazing your skin. “Hey, you’re okay. It’s going to be okay.”
And you believe it, too. You don’t want to leave his side, but as the tension continues to escalate, the only solution is out. You grab your drink and rush out of the kitchen, maneuvering past prying eyes and nosy whispers. Thankfully, the music is still playing, and by the time you’re up the stairs, locked inside a bathroom, the typical party commotion resumes.
Your phone rings in your pocket; you ignore it, switching it to silent without checking who’s calling. Inspecting your reflection in the mirror, eyes swelling with tears already, you can’t help laughing at yourself, alone in this random bathroom, crying once again over Reiner. It’s ridiculous. You’re so mad at him for ruining your night, for letting him ruin your night. All you could do was stand there, helpless. And when it became too much, you ran away instead of facing it head on. It’s so typical of you to act this way. That’s why he hasn’t left you alone yet. You’re too afraid to deal with it once and for all. Too scared of cutting that string that connects the two of you since you were five years old, the one holding together all your precious memories of a life before all this. At this rate, you’ll never move on, coiled by it until it you’re too tied up to break free.
Sitting on the closed toilet seat, you wipe your tears, noticing the drink you carried in here with you. Without giving it a second thought, you chug it, deciding that tonight, you’re going to resort to alcohol as temporary relief. It’s sickly-sweet sliding down your throat, the liquor hardly noticeable in whatever concoction some frat boy brewed. However, it’s there, and you crave more of it, desperate for an escape.
~~~
Eren doesn’t chase after her. And it’s not because he doesn’t want to; if it were his choice, he’d be right beside her, consoling her, holding her. Before he does, Mikasa grabs him. “Give her space. She needs space.”
He opens his mouth to protest, but doesn’t speak, knowing she’s right. The last thing he needs is to screw up their friendship by making dumb, rash decisions like this. He isn’t supposed to be involved; it’s an issue between her and her ex, something he shouldn’t get in the middle of. It’d be easy to avoid if they were just friends, if Eren didn’t have any stake in this. That’s the problem, though: Eren has fallen for her. And hard.
It’s only now that he realizes Reiner is still being restrained by Armin and Annie, struggling to surpass the two bodies to get to him. “I just want to talk; I’m not going to hit him!”
Eren steps towards them, not intimidated, feeling bold. “You’re hurting her.” The words tumble out of his mouth easily, as if he’s been itching to let it out.
Reiner’s eyes narrow, upset. “Excuse me?”
Eren mentions her name, repeating, “You’re hurting her.”
Annie and Armin glance nervously between the two, maintaining a firm grip on Reiner. “You have no idea what you’re talking about.”
“If you really love her, you’d let her go.”
“Eren,” Mikasa warns him, tugging at his sleeve. So much for not getting involved. He’s aware of the line he’s crossing, though he can’t help himself. Not when he’s picturing her, crying in the corner of a room because this asshole won’t leave her alone. Of course he’s going to try and protect her.
Reiner glares at him. “What’s your deal?”
Eren struggles to answer. After all, who is he in all of this? The random RA who lives down the hall? A concerned friend? Above all, he’s someone who cares for her immensely. Isn’t that enough of an excuse to intervene?
When he doesn’t respond, Reiner continues. “You have no idea what our relationship is like. We’ve known each other since we were – “
“Five, yeah, I’ve heard the story,” Eren interrupts. “Maybe it’s time for you to grow up.”
This elicits another aggressive response from Reiner, to which Bertolt joins in on restraining him.
Armin, in a commanding voice, demands, “That’s enough. Calm down, okay?!”
“I’m not gonna to let him talk to me like that!” Reiner argues, reaching is arms out towards Eren, who remains nonchalant. This guy doesn’t scare him, not one bit. Reiner is a selfish coward; greedy for more, afraid to lose what he has. She’s a safety net to fall on. The back burner for when he needs warmth he can’t find anywhere else. It isn’t fair to her, being the last resort. She should be loved always, not only when it’s convenient.
Mikasa sidles up to him, whispering, “We should go before he really explodes.”
He runs his fingers through his hair, sighing. “I’ll leave. Just…keep an eye on her for me. Make sure she’s okay.”
Annie gives him a sympathetic look. “I’m sorry, Eren. I’ll tell her to call you,” she says, using her strength to stave off Reiner, who’s red in the face.
He nods. “You don’t have to tell her anything. If she wants me, she’ll find me.”
Reiner threatens, “I don’t know what you’re trying to do with Coco, but I’m warning you. Stay away from her.”
“If you really cared about her, you’d stay away from her too.” Eren pivots on his heel to leave. Back turned, exiting the kitchen, he adds, “By the way, she hates that nickname.” He smirks to himself, listening to Reiner curse at him on his way out the door.
~~~
With your cup empty, cheeks warm with a gradual buzz, you finally leave the bathroom to find more liquor. When you reappear in the kitchen, Reiner and Bertolt are gone, thankfully. Annie spots you, relieved. “Are you okay?”
You nod at her, giving her a timid smile. “Yeah. As long as Reiner is gone, I’m okay.”
She sighs, frustrated. “Unfortunately, he’s outside.”
Focused on the obnoxiously large Gatorade tub on the countertop, you shrug with your cup in hand. “Fine. Let’s hope I get drunk enough to pretend he isn’t here.” You dispense the reddish liquid till your cup is filled to the brim, carefully tipping it into your mouth. Annie watches, concerned and impressed, as you continue to gulp it down until it’s empty. “Whoa. Easy there, you don’t want to get too fucked up, right?”
Already tapping more into your cup, head starting to get hazy with a buzz, you respond, “Actually, that’s exactlywhat I want to do right now.” You finish it, Annie monitoring you nervously, not saying anything.
Soon, the two of you join Mikasa and Armin in the living room, which has been converted into a temporary dancefloor. You’re smooshed by bodies and engulfed in heat, the intense bass from the speakers drowning out whatever thoughts remain in your mind. This is exactly what you needed, to be lost in something, having fun without worrying about anything other than yourself. An escape.
As luck would have it, this only lasts for a few minutes. From your peripheral, you catch Reiner making his way to you, Bertolt trailing behind. “Coco!” he shouts over the crowd.
Annie glares at him, shielding you. “Fuck off.”
“I only want to talk. Please.”
It’s only now that you can properly study his complexion. Dark shadows under his eyes, facial hair unkempt as if he hasn’t properly groomed it. There is some pity, seeing the boy you grew up with and loved with all your heart look like a shell of himself. More than anything, though, you’re fed up. Liquid courage surging through you, you decide that tonight, you’re going to end this exhausting game he’s playing once and for all. The long-winded back-and-forth you’ve had to endure this past semester. You won’t allow him to ruin you, destroy the both of you. Not anymore.
“It’s okay,” you tell your friends, stepping around them towards Reiner. “I’ll deal with this.”
Annie utters your name, loose grip on your wrist, a last-ditch effort to stop you. You pass her a confident grin, patting her hand. “It’s okay. I’ll be okay.”
Standing tall, you face him. “You want to talk? Fine, let’s talk.”
You lead the way upstairs, past the bathroom you were previously hiding in and into the nearest unoccupied bedroom, shutting the door. Once you switch the lights on, you’re suddenly extremely aware that you and Reiner are alone, enclosed in this small space for the first time since that day you said goodbye. There’s a sense of déjà vu, filling you with an uneasiness you can’t quite explain. You’re teetering on the edge, a risk of falling at any moment.
“Coco,” he starts.
Before he can continue, you interrupt him. “Reiner, you can’t keep ambushing me like this. It’s not fair to me. I’m trying my best to move on, I can’t do that if you’re always pestering me!”
“I know, I know. But – ”
“I already told you why we can’t be friends, so stop trying.”
“Please listen to –”
“I’m finally getting used to not having you around anymore, so just leave me alone –”
“I want to get back together.”
You stare at him, stunned, slowly processing what he said.
“Coco, I want to be with you. I want it to be us again. I was a fucking idiot for breaking up in the first place.”
Still, you’re speechless, astounded by the words coming out of his mouth. It doesn’t help that the alcohol in your system is taking its effect, head dizzy and balance wobbly.
Reiner reaches for your hand, holding it in his. His thumb brushes across your knuckles, the way it used to all those times in the past. “I’m a fucking mess without you. I can’t sleep, I can’t think. Every day I miss you. I don’t want this anymore. I want you.”
You finally find the will to speak, voice trembling. “You can’t take back what happened.”
“Why not? This semester has been the worst without you. Why can’t we forget about what happened and go back to the way it was?”
“I don’t think I can do that.”
His hands cup your cheeks, forehead pressed to yours. And while your mind is screaming at you to stay strong, to push him away, your body stays still, melting into his touch. “Coco, I love you. I’ll always love you. I realize that now. I’m sorry it took all of this to realize it. I’m sure of it now. Please, baby. I need you.”
Your confidence is dwindling. You came into this room, intending to end it. Now, you find yourself wavering under his words. The words you so badly wanted to hear ever since he broke up with you. It’s your weakness: to be needed, to be wanted. It’d be easy to forget, to go back to the way it used to be. Wouldn’t it?
It will never be the same. You can’t forget what he did, no matter how badly you want to block it out of your memory. That paranoia will always be present. He’s already broken your heart once, what makes you think he don’t do it again? How can you trust someone who so easily crushed you without a fair warning? Who toys with your fragility because of his own selfish desires?
“Reiner, I don’t know,” you whimper, tears filling your eyes, overwhelmed with emotions.
“We’ll figure it out together. You and me. Like old times.” The past. Carefree and in love, in your own little world, just the two of you. Sheltered from the unknown, reliant only on each other. Were you happy in this life? Or did you only convince yourself that you were?
“It’s you and me, Coco. Forever.” He inches forward, lips almost touching. You can smell the harsh aroma of alcohol on his breath, pungent and bitter. When you don’t pull away, he closes the gap, kissing you. His tongue slips inside your mouth, desperate for a taste, and you welcome it, starved for affection after being deprived of it all semester. The once familiar facial hair is foreign on your skin; it’s like he’s a completely different person now, a stranger. And maybe that’s why it makes it easier to kiss him, to imagine him as someone different than the same Reiner you once knew, the one who broke your heart. He’s different this time. He has to be.
What if he’s not?
Suddenly, your body reacts, hands to his chest, shoving him away. “No,” you state, recoiling from him. “No, I can’t do this.”
Grip on your hips, he tugs you in again, scattering kisses along your neck. “It’s okay. It’s going to be okay, baby.”
You force him off once more, with more aggression, surprising him. “Stop, Reiner. It’s not okay. I can’t do this. I don’t want to do this. We have to move on. It’s over.”
He grasps you by the shoulders, pleading with you. “I don’t want to move on, Coco. I want us to go back to the way it was, like when we were kids.”
“That’s the problem. We’re not kids anymore! We have to grow up.” Your voice trembles, hands shaking with anguish. You’re saying it as a cruel reminder for the both of you.
“Baby, please,” he begs, surrounding you in a scorching embrace. You can’t breathe, the air too dense in his presence, suffocating you. “I need you. I need you.” He kisses you again, fingers gliding beneath your shirt and along your skin, pulling you to the bed. You succumb to it, the past flashing in your memory like a movie playing in fast forward. Your first kiss, clumsy and awkward because you were only kiddos who had no idea what you were doing. The first time you made love, crossing that line from best friends to lovers, also clumsy and awkward, but it was yours. All the moments when the two of you were in sync with each other, strolling through life glued to the hip. The breakup doesn’t erase the precious memories the two of you share; it’s shown you that maybe this relationship has run its course. Because now, it’s nothing like it used to be. You’d be fooling yourself thinking it can ever go back to the way it was.
Before you go any further, you break apart from him, tears streaming down your cheeks as you stumble to the door, gasping for breath. “I’m sorry, Reiner. We can’t. We can’t do this.” When you open it, the cacophony of party sounds filling you with relief, as if you’ve returned to steady ground, away from whatever orbit he’s attempting to suck you into. You won’t let yourself revolve around him any longer.
You ignore his voice calling for you as you sprint down the stairs, rushing through the crowd, not bothering to check in with Annie in the living room. You can’t face her, not now. Not after you betrayed yourself by kissing your ex. Shame envelopes you as you speed walk your way across campus, heading to your dorm. Halfway on your trek, you send Annie a quick text, explaining that you left the party and that you’re fine, although it’s not entirely truthful. As you swipe your ID at the door, your feet automatically lead you to your safe space.
~~~
Eren lays in bed, gazing up at the ceiling, contemplating. It’s been a while since he left the party, annoyed from his confrontation with Reiner, more so worried about her and how she’s doing. He can’t sleep without knowing whether she’s okay or not.
Phone in hand, he sends Mikasa a quick message, asking for a status update. His sister’s reply has him immediately sitting up, frantic:
Mikasa: She’s talking to Reiner
He hops out of bed, pacing around his room. Talking to him? What could that mean? He attempts to call Mikasa, the suspense eating away at him. When she picks up, he can barely hear her, the background noise of the party too loud. “Mikasa, what’s going on?”
“Don’t worry,” she yells on the other end of the line. “I think she’s trying to end it. She told us she’s dealing with it.”
“I told you to keep an eye on her.”
“I’m not going to stand there in the middle of a private conversation! She’s a big girl, she can handle this.”
He sighs, frustrated. “I know, I just –”
“Eren, you can’t keep protecting her. She’s got to deal with this on her own.”
He doesn’t answer. She’s right; it’s not his battle to fight, no matter how much he wants to.
“Oh shit,” Mikasa curses. He can hear Annie and Armin’s voice murmuring, though he can’t make out what exactly they’re saying.
“Mikasa, what’s going on?!”
“She texted Annie a few minutes. She said she’s fine, but she left. We don’t know where she is.”
He panics, squeezing the phone between his ear and shoulder, slipping into a jacket, scrambling for his keys. “Okay, I’m going to look for her. Stay there in case she comes back.”
“Eren, I’m sure she’s going to the dorms! Don’t freak out!”
“Well, I’m going to look for her anyways! Please, Mikasa. Do this for me – ”
There’s a knock on his door. Eren sets his keys down, heart racing. “I gotta go,” he quickly mutters into the phone, hanging up. He approaches the door, unlocking and turning the handle slowly.
“Eren?”
She stands in front of him, eyes puffy, biting her lip as if to suppress her crying. He pulls her into a hug, surrounding her in his arms. She relaxes into him, nestling her face into his chest, sniffling. “Hey, you’re okay. You’re okay,” he chants.
In between sobs, she cries, “I’m not. I fucked up, Eren. I really fucked up.”
“Hey, I’m sure it’s not that bad,” he reassures her.
“We kissed. Reiner and I kissed.”
Dread settles in the pit of his stomach as he listens in silence, anticipating what else she will reveal to him.
“We were touching and we almost, I almost…But we didn’t. I stopped it.” She swallows hard, collecting herself before continuing. “I’m so ashamed of myself. I spent the past three months trying to get over him, and I tossed it all aside for one stupid kiss. I’m weak. I’m weak.”
“Hey, hey, hey,” he consoles, rubbing her back. “You’re not weak.”
“I am, though. I’m so fucking desperate to be held, to be touched. Tonight exposed it. I can’t do that again. I just can’t.”
He’s not proud of what he suggests next. Maybe it’s jealousy that makes Eren propose what he’s about to. He justifies it as a friend helping out another friend. It’s a mistake. Not because he’ll hurt her; in the end, it’ll hurt him. He lets his selfish desires overtake the usual logical thinking in his brain. All he can focus on is this, right here, right now. This might be their only chance, his only chance. “How about me?”
“What?”
“Use me. I want to help you.” This is a bad idea, a very bad idea. As soon as he crosses this line, there’s no turning around. He’s all in. It’s the point of no return, and with as much risk as there is in it, there’s no question in his mind that it’s worth it. To have her like this, even for a fleeting moment, is better than not having her at all.
“Eren,” she whispers, peering up at him.
“Rely on me,” he says with a small smile, caressing her cheeks, wiping away her tears.
“Eren,” she repeats, closing her eyes. “I don’t want this to change anything between us. I’m scared I’m going to mess this up again.”
He leans down, pressing his forehead to hers. “I’m always going to care about you, no matter what. I promise. Don’t worry about me.”
They need this, a temporary escape. Him and her, no one else. Cherishing one another, loving each other the way they deserve. It doesn’t matter what the past is or what the future holds. He wants to be lost in this moment with her. She opens her eyes, gazing at him. He bows down, lips close to hers, pausing to wait for her. She kisses him softly, electrifying every nerve in his body.
it’s over too soon; she pulls away, distancing herself. “Eren, I can’t do this to you. I’m all fucked up in the head right now and still a little drunk. You don’t deserve this. I’m so sorry.” Without another glance, she leaves, her hasty footsteps pattering down the hall, Eren listening until he hears her shut the door to her bedroom.
He traces his mouth with his fingers, her essence lingering on his lips. He stands in place for a few more minutes, waiting and hoping for her return. When it doesn’t come, he goes to bed, staring up at the ceiling, unable to sleep.
~~~
You fucked it all up, with Reiner, with Eren. As always, you ran away, unable to stand up for yourself, to face the truth.
With Reiner, you crumbled, allowing him to enrapture you with empty promises and longing for the past. He almost convinced you that everything can go back to normal, which you know it can’t. And with Eren, you pushed him away, too scared to repeat the same mistakes despite your heart yearning for him more and more each day.
His offer to you sticks in your mind as you lay in bed, focused on the ceiling, intoxication completely worn off after a hot shower and much-needed hydration. Rely on me. Use me. It wasn’t fair to take advantage of him while you were in such a fragile state, drunk and in tears after your confrontation with Reiner. Hours later, with a clearer head, you can’t stop thinking about him. I’m always going to care about you, no matter what. It’s the only promise of the night that you actual believe.
You check your phone for the time: 4:17 AM. Glancing to your side, Annie sleeps peacefully in her bed, having arrived a few hours earlier. You explained to her vaguely what happened, leaving out the details about both kisses, not ready to deal with her blunt reactions. As quietly as you can, you slide into your slippers, sneaking out of the room. Halfway down the hall, you second-guess yourself, almost turning on your heel to go back. However,  Eren’s soothing voice replaying in your head entices you. One moment of unadulterated bliss together wouldn’t be so bad, right?
Before you change your mind, you knock quietly on his door, nervous and excited. It doesn’t take long for him to answer. He stands before you, wide awake, a comforting smile upon seeing you. And while this whole night was a blurry, fucked up mess, this is the most certain you’ve been. Even if it is for a short while, a temporary escape from the unkind realities the both of you have to eventually face, it’s clear as day: You want to be with him, and he wants to be with you.
“So,” you say, stepping towards him. “Does your offer still stand?”
His smile widens, reaching his arm past you to shut the door. “Absolutely.”

Tumblr media
pairing: rafe cameron x pogue!reader
warning: angst, manipulation, heated argument
summary: after promising you he would, rafe still hasn’t went public with your relationship yet. you finally decide to confront him and see a side of him you’ve never seen before.
words: 1k
a/n: thank you for reading! if you have any requests, please do not hesitate to reach out! i love you, and as always, enjoy! <3 (btw the term “y/n” is never used)
-—————————⋆。‧˚ʚɞ˚‧。⋆—————————-
rafe and i had been dating for 10 months now. everything was so good. everything except for the fact that no one knew about our relationship except us.
we started dating a few weeks after we hooked up during a kegger. not our best moment, i know. we’ve been in the “honeymoon stage” ever since. once we made it official, we both agreed to keep it on the down low for the time being, due to the whole kook versus pogue thing. you see i’m a pogue. i’m a part of the working class. my family isn’t poor, but we definitely don’t have money pouring out of our asses like the kooks. both my parents work a minimum wage and we live as comfortably as a pogue can. on the other hand you have rafe, my boyfriend. he’s a kook. he’s a cameron. everything he’s ever gotten has been handed to him on a silver platter. these people have more money than they know what do with.
in my opinion, this kook versus pogue thing is bullshit. you shouldn’t judge people based on their financial state. before i met rafe, he had the complete opposite view, but i’ve managed to sway him a little. i think he just has a soft spot for me for some reason.
anyways, like i said, at the beginning of our relationship we decided to keep it underground for a few weeks. those weeks quickly turned into months, and now it’s been 10 months.
i’m so sick of keeping us a secret. i want to go on real dates, and post instagram pictures. i want to go to his house and sleep over. i don’t want to be a secret.
i’ve brought up going public multiple times but rafe just shuts me down. i’m starting to get aggravated, because it feels like he’s embarrassed of me.
earlier this month - a fellow pogue and my dear friend - john b, and sarah - kook princess, rafe’s sister - started dating. no one really had anything to say about them, all our friends were supportive. that was the final straw for me. if they can do it, so can rafe and i.
so, i decided to text rafe and tell him i wanted to meet up and talk to him.
Tumblr media
with that, i grabbed my keys and left my house. i started my drive to the cameron’s.
i had only been to rafe’s house 3 times. it was pretty rare to have all 4 of his family members out of the house for an extended period of time.
i pull in out behind the house. the spot rafe tells me to park, so it’s hidden. i get out of my car and make my way to the back door. i gently knocked and after about 30 seconds rafe had opened the door and brought me into his warm embrace.
“hey darling.” me mumbled into my hair. he let go of me tracing his hand to the small of my back. he gently guided me forward and closed the door. we went to sit on the couch. he grabbed my chin and gave me a peck on the lips. “so what’s up?”
i looked at my hands and took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves. “well, i wanted to talk about maybe going public?”
“babe we already talked about this okay? everyone would give us a bunch of shit. my family wouldn’t accept you. you know how they are.” he set his hand on my knee.
“but they are fine with john b and sarah. no one has a problem with them.” i sighed. “i’m tired of sneaking around, rafe.”
“i know honey, i am too. but this is the only way we can be together. you know that.” he said with reassurance.
“but it’s not rafe. we could just-”
“look. if you really loved me. you would listen to me” he cut me off.
“i don’t know, i just get the feeling that you want to keep me hidden. i’m done with all the excuses.”
he glared at me. a toxic look he’s never directed towards me. my heart skipped a beat.
“you know i’m just trying to protect you. okay? i don’t think you appreciate me.”
“what are you protecting me from? if you don’t want to be with me anymore just say that!” i yelled at him. my eyes glossed over with frustration.
“i know you didn’t just yell at me.” his eyes darkened. he stood up abruptly, dragging me with him. his hand went to the back of my neck grasping me firmly in place. our faces almost touching “not after all i’ve given you. i took a chance on you okay. i wouldn’t do that for any nasty pogue.”
i pushed his chest. hard. breaking his hold on my neck. my hand raised ready to slap him across the face. before my hand could make contact, he grabbed my wrist, pinning it to my side as he pushed me against the wall.
he brought his mouth inches away from my ear. “want to try that again sweetheart?” he whispered in a husky tone.
i felt like my heart was going to explode. warm hot tears streamed steadily down my face. i’ve never seen him act this way before. he only ever been sweet and loving to me.
“now you’re quiet.” he rolled his eyes. he let go of me. his hands flew to his temples, gently rubbing them. pacing back and forth. “shit. i’m so sorry baby. but you can’t do that to me. if you didn’t say shit like that, i wouldn’t have to get mean with you okay?”
i still stood against the wall. frozen. i couldn’t move. i stared at the man in front of me. everything i thought i knew about him was completely gone. “i- i’m gonna go.” i stuttered.
i quickly walked to the door, rafe on my heels. just as i reached the door rafe grabbed my shoulders and spun me around.
“i said i was sorry. what more do you want from me?” he asked, his eyes starting to gloss over.
“just let me go.” i jerked out of his grip.
i continued to my car with rafe’s apologies flowing through the air.
i don’t know if i’ll ever be able to face him again.

♥️ Ranking Richonne
#14: Soon As I Get It, You Will (S6E10)
Tumblr media
This moment will always have an extra special place in my heart. 😍 It’s when I so clearly in real-time saw that Rick and Michonne were going to perfectly transition to a romantic couple because they’d been in love a long time. I said TWD's opening minutes really used to bless us with some great Richonne content throughout the series, and this one from 6.10, their classic canon ep, is atop the list. This scene paints a clear picture that Rick and Michonne weren't just about to become a couple at the end of the episode - they were going to embrace that they already were one...
I adore domestic Richonne scenes and in this scene, they were just so comfortable and happy living what felt like such a normal morning in their home with their kids. 🥰 Moments like this are what I most want for Rick and Michonne and their children. It's the good, happy, peaceful life they deserve.
The scene starts with Rick and his belt, which I gotta say always makes me think the writers were going for a bit of an innuendo lol. Then the shot makes it a point to show that Rick has taken his ring off. That’s definitely a big indicator that he’s now in a place to more fully and healthily move into a new chapter (and to signal to Michonne 'I'm ready when you are' perhaps lol).
Rick grabs the watch but leaves the ring, and that is such an intentional shot. It symbolizes that it’s time to move forward, in love especially, and Rick is finally ready in proper ways to do that.
And he knows who he’s meant to move forward with - Cuz then she shows right up to his door looking glowy and gorgeous in a robe. 🤗
Tumblr media
I love that Michonne feels comfortable enough to approach his room in her robe and towel and ask if he has any toothpaste left and that Rick cutely teases her about using his toothpaste the last few weeks. They bring out such a playful flirty side of each other, and I love it.
Rick’s smile when he teases her and then Michonne's reaction...😊 I know that house felt like a sauna the last few weeks with all that steamy tension they’ve been trying to keep the lid on.
And I like that whatever happened in the last two weeks broke their ability to downplay their attraction - because the way Rick and Michonne are looking and reacting to each other in this scene...you know I gotta use my favorite word - the attraction is palpable.
I’ll also just always love that even when TF all moved into separate houses, Michonne stayed with her Grimes family. She’s one of them fr.
Tumblr media
Michonne sounds like such a mom when she calls for Carl, and Carl sounds like her teenage son when he responds with a low-key attitudinal “What?” This is the first we’re hearing from Carl since getting his eye shot out and it tells you he’s definitely still that same feisty-when-he-wants-to-be kid. 😂
I love the moment when Rick says he can’t hear Carl and has him come on out. And the smile Rick gives Michonne and the way she amusedly looks at him and subtly rolls her eyes when they wait for Carl to come over. 🤭
And then, after Rick smiles at her, he has this extremely telling reaction like he’s trying to play off whatever he’s so clearly feeling about her before Carl comes and catches his whipped self.
But Rick ain’t ever been slick when it comes to how he feels about Michonne, and so even in that little squint that he does, it’s clear this man has caught all the feelings there is to catch lol. This is a man in love, I tell you. And he knows it now. 🤗
Tumblr media
I adore their energy here and I repeat this is not how people who are just friends look at each other. This scene is just so fun too cuz there’s no speculation needed by this point - it is factual that Rick and Michonne are both more aware that they are attracted to and in love with this person in front of them. And it’s sweet to see them be all smiley about it in their final pre-canon scene.
Truly, the only thing they were waiting on at this point was knowing for sure the feelings they felt were mutual.
Carl gives another little attitudinal 'what?' to Rick and when Carl repeats what he said about Denise, Rick says it at the same time as him and it’s such a dad moment. Michonne laughs and I’m pretty positive Rick did this specifically knowing it would make her laugh cuz Carl is not that amused by it at all. 😂
Tumblr media
Michonne again sounds like such a mom when she tells Carl it’s time to change his bandage and she needs toothpaste. I know Rick and Michonne have to be picking up on how much they so naturally feel like a perfect little four-person family right now. Like they were giving mom and dad and they were giving husband and wife...
Tumblr media
And I love that there's always this refreshed good mood when Rick and Michonne get to just live everyday life together with their kids. 🥰
When Carl says he’s also out of toothpaste, Michonne looks over at Rick and shakes her head as they both smile, and you know Rick knew right then and there that he’s gonna find a way to get her that toothpaste today, no matter what.
Tumblr media
And then y’all, it’s Michonne’s turn to have an extremely telling reaction because she then quietly watches as Rick picks Judith up. Again, this quiet lingering look was not a platonic look from our girl Michonne. And whatever she was thinking about Rick at this moment...
Tumblr media
I was probably thinking it too. 🤭 It’s sweet seeing Michonne just quietly take this moment in, knowing that she loves and respects this man, as a father, as a fighter, and as the love of her life.
It’s also heartwarming hearing Rick be so sweet with Judith and say, "come on, sweetheart." Girl Dad Rick is always great to see for us and Michonne - because Michonne’s smile observing this is just precious. That’s a good man and she knows it. And a hot man and she knows that too. 😊
Tumblr media
It's great how Michonne doesn’t just sound like a mom in this scene, she also is such a wife, especially when she tells Rick to "be good out there." And Rick feels like such a husband saying, "yeah we’ll see."
And then you know I gotta take a moment to celebrate my favorite part of this scene - that low-five. 🙌🏽
It's so good, and I credit that low-five as the flashing light that fully let me know these two had a chemistry that was bound to turn romantic. Looking back, it's genuinely crazy it took me until their canon ep to open my eyes and know for certain that what I'd been watching all along between Rick and Michonne was a love story but hey...
Tumblr media
And ever since that low five, I have learned from my mistake and fully boarded this ship without ever looking back.
I love that true to their magnetic ways, Rick extends his hand to her, and, y’all, somehow they manage to make a freaking low-five feel romantic and so much more than just casual.
This is how you know your ship is in (no pun intended) capable hands. Because the actors knew that the next time Rick and Michonne see each other in this ep they're going to go all the way, and so this scene in the opening minutes had to really tell you their current headspace and that they were right on the brink of expressing this long-time love more physically. And of course, Andy and Danai were able to communicate that in something as simple as a low-five. Best in the biz, I'm just saying. 👏🏽💯
This touch between them is important too because their previous few and far between touches had always been one touching the other - but in this moment it was both of them engaging, hinting how they’re both finally ready to express their love a different way.
Tumblr media
And I love that as Rick so often does he accompanies the low-five with a thank you. Always so grateful for her. 😊 He can go out on these runs and trust that his kids are okay because they’re with their mom.
It just felt like such a married sendoff as he thanks her before going out for the day and she casually lets him know her favorite type of toothpaste. I love the way she tells him which toothpaste she likes best and that they're able to live a stable enough life for them to even have preferences now.
Rick says, "soon as I get it, you will" and, chile, he means that. 😋 I love that quick line and that he says this sounding like a husband yet again. He knows it’ll be a priority to get this toothpaste not just for the community but for her specifically because what Michonne wants, whether big or small, always matters to him.
And the line also just feels like a fitting sentiment to their relationship. As soon as he gets that this romance can be acted on, she will. So it’s a great line to land on in their final pre-canon moment together.
(and y'all can we just take a moment to observe the way they are looking at each other during this low-five...like the heat coming off of them is really something. it makes sense later that night would finally be 'the night' because i don't think they could resist for one more day lol ❤️‍🔥)
Tumblr media
I also never noticed that the scene ends with Rick playfully tossing the ball at her. Can they get any cuter? 😭 What Rick and Michonne bring out of each other is just the best and I adore this bright and happy scene for showing this great and lived-in layer to them and their relationship.
Whether you’d been anticipating Richonne for seasons or were new to the ship, this scene made sure there was no denying that Rick and Michonne are family and not just as parents but truly as gorgeous and natural spouses. Married before they knew they were married, y’all, and this moment made it clear.
So I really appreciate this morning scene for showing that Rick and Michonne have built a life together not just as 'team family,' not just as co-leaders, but as a mom and dad and very very soon as an officially consummated husband and wife. And y'all...
Tumblr media
We'll get there. 😉 But for now, staying focused on this absolutely delightful 14th moment on my list - I think about how Rick and Michonne always got to see the more normal and human side of each other ever since season 3. And in this 6.10 scene, you see them both not only witness that everyday side but really be attracted to that side too, in a way they can no longer hide.
So yeah, toothpaste and toothbrushes stayed giving us some great Richonne content. This 6.10 opener showed that the Richonne ship had been set sail - now it was just time to release the 'canon.' 🤗🪥

A Night of Song and Laughter (Bonus chapter)
I've been thinking of writing this and now I finally did it - it was also kinda requested over on AO3. Was nice to come back to this story for a bit - writing this silly little thing just came right back to me.
In true original fashion this posted at almost 2am and not proofread so enjoy!
CHAPTER LIST
Pairing: Astarion / Fem!Tav (You) Rating: Explicit Warnings: Descriptions of violence Song: I Can't Decide - Scissor Sisters
Tumblr media
Exactly one week later the two of you had made their way to “Maeve’s” again although Astarion had insisted he’d hated your night out at the tavern (“Although not how the night ended, my dear, that was very much to my liking.”). But you had made a promise and despite his show of indifference you were sure you’d seen his eyes sparkle a little when you had mentioned that Lira and Daegin would for sure be very displeased if only showed up for a round of drinks – or four, five, six (judging by your track record).
At the entrance you’d been greeted by Don again who had embraced you tightly – happy to see you made out in one piece from being on the run from the city guards and weren’t stuck behind bars. He had even heavily hit Astarion on the back, remembering how the rogue had elegantly taken out two of the guards at once. The vampire had simply winced and submitted to the pats even though his face conveyed he would have rather been captured by the guards that night.
Once past that first hurdle you entered the tavern which had already been busy despite the early time of the night. Remembering what had happened on the dance floor last time you had blushed a deep red and when you had thrown Astarion a glance he had grinned broadly, winked at you and then had let his hand run down softly your arm. The one you knew you would see soft glowing markings if you’d taken a look right then and there.
Making your way to the gallery the vampire’s mood had immediately soured when he had seen a familiar dwarf at the bottom of the stairs. The rogue’s nose had scrunched up and stayed like that while you approached Kirin who had jumped up and down in joy seeing you. He’d slapped both his hands on his thighs and had grinned, almost looking as if he’d been calling a dog over. But you hadn’t minded that at all.
“Well, if it ain’t me favourite lass! Com’ere ye silly elf, let me give ye a hug!”, the dwarven bouncer had screamed at you and dragged you down in a crushing hug that had almost made you drop to your knees. When the dwarf had let go his gaze had wandered to your soulmate, the dwarf’s nose scrunching in the same way Astarion’s had: “Ah yes, and me least favourite lass… Ye owe me big time, boy!“
A muscle had ticked in Astarion’s jaw. “Why would I owe something to you, dwarf?“, he had hissed at Kirin.
“Because”, Kirin had immediately growled back “I saved ye skinny arse!”
Astarion had looked ready to stick a knife in the dwarf’s throat then and you had simply dragged him on and up the stairs to meet your friends.
There you had been greeted by Lira and Daegin who’d almost immediately started screaming at you to “tell us what in the Nine Hells happened after we went home?”. Astarion and you had thrown each other a glance and had then started to tell them – of course intentionally letting out the more ‘private’ parts of the story.
When you had been telling them about how Miyena had threatened you (of course not mentioning the whole vampire and stake thing), Lira had become frighteningly silent – up until she had taken a swig of her drink and had put her mug down so hard it had cracked.
“If this bitch ever threatens you again, I will stick a goddamn knife into her heart”, Lira had silently vowed while staring off into the void. The whole table had stared at her in terror as this gentle soul had spoken probably the vilest thing she had ever uttered.
Even the vampire looked stricken – especially since she had barely even used a swear word the last time you guys had spoken. But it had been quite obvious that actually threatening your friends where she drew the definite line.
“You’ll need to get in line for that, darling”, Astarion had replied to her after some time, breaking your group out of the stupor before he had taken a sip of his wine. “I already vowed my dagger to pierce her blackened heart should she ever cross our paths again.”
“Aye, I’ll drink to that”, Daegin had mumbled to that and emptied his beer.
After that the mood had lightened considerably. You had spent the evening talking, drinking, joking. And you surely didn’t leave the tavern any earlier than the last time. Although this time there were now elven rituals, no cityguards chasing you and you did actually leave through the front door this time.
In front of the tavern the four of you exchanged hugs – or rather you and Lira forced the men into them and you parted ways, agreeing to make this a regular date. Then Astarion and you had went on your ways.
There was still time in the night so you had started wandering around the streets of the Lower City.
Although the Lower City had quite the reputation – especially at night – you felt light-hearted and -footed as you wandered down dark alleyways. Maybe the amount of alcohol you had once again consumed had something to do with it but maybe it was just the joy of a wonderful night out with your soulmate. You had your arm in the crook of his arm and kept stealing adoring glances at Astarion who had the good graces to just let you drunkenly and dreamily stare at him without commenting on it. He, however, stole glances at you too – loving and warm, with an joyful sparkle in his eyes. The vampire was just a lot more subtle about it.
Not that you’d have noticed either way once you had started telling Astarion stupid puns and broke down laughing after almost every single one. They were quite objectively terrible but your drunk brain could not imagine anything funnier. Astarion’s face had become a tortured grimace.
“What do you – “, you already started laughing. “What do you call a wizard that asks you questions?”, you asked Astarion and stared at him while you almost couldn’t contain yourself.
Astarion sighed heavily: “I don’t know, love, maybe you should ask Gale and not me.”
You snickered but kept silent. Astarion pinched his nose with his free hand and gave another sigh: “What do you call a wizard that asks questions, my drunk little jester?”
“A quizard!”, you exclaimed as soon as Astarion had finished speaking and burst out laughing.
The vampire’s mouth pressed into a thin line – he quite obviously was asking himself why he had objected himself to this hell of a relationship.
But your laughter was contagious and so was your whole being when you threw your head back, your eyes closed and hung desperately on his arm.
The vampire watched you laugh open and whole-heartedly: the way your nose crinkled with the small lines of the scar over it, the way the tattooed horns bending away from your eyelids had become such an accustomed sight for him, the little dagger earrings you always wore dangling and shaking, little freckles all over your skin like scattered stars on the night sky, your reddish hair that was swinging in a high ponytail tonight (fully and completely Astarion’s accomplishment), how your neck became red from all the laughing.
“You’re staring, Astarion, something on my face?”, you said as the rogue has lost his subtlety about his admiration for you and had started gazing at you with a growing smile.
When he heard you say that he blinked and then moved his face closer, staring at you with furrowed brows: “Yes actually, now that you’re mentioning it, my love…”
You raised your eyebrows at him.
“Yes, right there…”, Astarion whispered and moved in even closer.
You were genuinely confused.
“You have some vampire on your lips”, he continued and then closed the space between you both to kiss you sweetly.
But it was only of short duration as you had to pull back to laugh again: “And you say my puns are bad. That was terrible, darling.” And you lean in again to kiss him again.
But this time Astarion broke the kiss. His head swung around all of a sudden – the joyful mood immediately forgotten. The way he stared off into the darkness of the alley you were standing in, like a cat observing potential prey, sobered you up quicker than you would have liked.
“Stay here for a moment, my love”, Astarion whispered and untangled from you. His tone was tense, but you could almost hear his smirk in it.
Whatever he had noticed in the dark, it was about to be found out. The vampire slipped into the even deeper shadows of the alley until even you with your elven senses could neither hear or see something of him.
Your heart was racing although you rationally knew that Astarion would not have left your side if there had been any real danger.
You waited as silence drew out – the only sounds being your own beating heart, the rushing of your blood in your ears and the squeaking of some rats pattering about. Patiently you waited, staying as still as your alcohol level allowed.
Then you heard a scream and some crashing, bodies probably falling over each other and suddenly you could make out Astarion again. He was crouched down over – someone?
You carefully stepped closer as you could hear the vampire hiss to the person he had laying on the cobblestones, one knee viciously pressing in their back and with one hand holding their head by their short hair.
“Did that fucking tiefling send you?”, Astarion growled – he seemed positively livid.
Tiefling? You suddenly had the connection between the figure being pressed to the shoddy stones of the street and Astarion’s accusation: Eodin!
Your eyes widened and almost as suddenly as you felt the surprise you felt the anger – at least a fraction of what the vampire obviously felt. “What the fuck are you doing here?”, you hissed at him stepping in front of the human that had started whimpering.
“Miyena, yes! Miyena sent me, she made me do it!”, Eodin exclaimed as Astarion dragged his head up by his hair.
You crossed your arms over your chest. Your sympathy with your former friend – and yes, former lover (even though you dreaded thinking about it) – was pretty much non-existent. And if your other former friend Miyena sent him to follow you in a dark alley at night you were pretty sure you didn’t need to have some anyway.
You stared at this pathetic excuse of a human being until you noticed Astarion was looking at you – his gaze a wild mix of anger, worry and… amusement? His eyes darted down to Eodin’s head whose face was now once more pressed into the dirt then back to you again and a smirk had started playing over his lips. Astarion raised his eyebrows, with it asking your permission to go ahead. You were not exactly sure for what or what he wanted to do but you just shrugged at him softly.
That was enough for him to get going.
“Alright, you listen here you little twat”, Astarion hissed and dragged the man’s head up again. “Since you are so very obviously not the one in charge, you’re going to relay a little message for me, do you understand me?”, the vampire continued, lifting Eodin’s face to his while his knee still firmly pressed into the guy’s back. Astarion’s fangs were very obviously bared in threateningly.
Eodin winced, his eyes rolling like crazy but he said nothing.
Astarion rolled his eyes in annoyance and breathed out dramatically before he forcefully pushed down Eodin’s head on the ground; repeatedly. And in time with his words: “Do. You. Understand. Me?”
“Fuck you, vampire!”, Eodin pressed out and swung at Astarion with something silver glinting in his hand. Obviously, he had managed to free one of his arms.
But his moves were sluggish and he was up against a rogue that already had the upper hand. Astarion grabbed his hand and crushed it to the ground, sending a dagger flying.
And the scene suddenly changed again. The attempt to defy him had the vampire lose any of his playful demeanour. He pulled the human men up until he stumbled awkwardly up onto his knees and then his feet – only to be pressed against a wall. You took a step or two back in shock – your drunken state making you stagger a little.
“I was only going to play with you, but it seems you have to spoil the fun for the both of us”, Astarion hissed. He had his own dagger out now and pressed it against Eodin’s threat, already drawing some blood. His other hand was forcefully holding the man’s head against the stones. Eodin did not even muster a sound anymore but his eyes were full with shock.
“My love, why don’t you pick up that dagger over there, before some idiot runs into it”, the vampire then said to you and gave you a little wink that seemed entirely out of place for this situation. But you just shrugged and took the few steps over to where the discarded weapon lay.
You picked it up and turned around again and saw just the end of Astarion whispering something into Eodin’s ear. You could basically see the man lose several shades of colour even in the dark and his eyes widening even more. He desperately tried breaking free from the vampire’s grip.
But Astarion held him there, watched his fear grow until he finally let the man go who fell to his knees and the stumbled away faster than you had ever see him do in your thieving days.
“Not even a stake – what is this? Amateur hours? Tss”, Astarion said clucking his tongue and  turned around to you seemingly playful. But you saw the way he still clenched his fingers around his dagger and how there still was a deep wrinkle between his brows.
He slowly started to saunter towards where you stood now aimlessly with the dagger in hand.
“Maybe your former friend wanted to get rid of him more than she wanted to get rid of us”, he continued and gave a high-pitched giggle as he came closer and put his dagger away. Then he put an arm around you, when he was in front of you.
“What did you say to him?”, you asked Astarion looking up at him, still holding the godsdamned dagger.
“Oh, nothing in particular really. Just how I would splatter all his blood and organs on the floor in excruciating detail if he ever came to cross my path again, my sweet”, Astarion replied and made big red round puppy eyes at you while carefully taking the weapon out of your hands and stowing it away.
“The usual then, I see”, you simply replied. “Hmm”, the vampire replied and looked at you lovingly – as if you had not just talked about smearing your ex’s blood all over the wall.
But worry suddenly washed over the rogue’s face as your eyes glazed over: “Are you alright, my love?”
You looked from left to right, a bit irritated by the question – you had merely felt tiredness settling in your bones. “Well, I almost fell when I leaned down to pick up this dagger because I’m still awfully drunk but other than that – not a hair out of place! Just tired.”
The vampire watched you, nodding in mocking sympathy for you and your hard lot. Then he wrapped his other arm against you and pushed you against the nearest wall: “Maybe I know a cure to get you out of that, my heart.” His lips were so close to yours and your body immediately reacted to his actions by sending heatwaves through it.
You felt awfully reminded of the last time you had found yourself pressed against a wall in a dark alley by this vampire – it had been like a week.
“Oh no no no, we can’t keep doing it in the godsdamned streets like dogs, Astarion.” You tried to push him away a little. If he wanted you he could very well have you: but in the comfort of you cozy bed at home where it was warm and you could comfortably slide into dreams while being wrapped up in your lovers arms; and not here where you seemed to have a track record of getting threatened with knives.
The vampire pouted at you a little but then a mischievous twinkle entered his eyes. With quick and swift movements he had taken you and thrown you over his shoulders and had started walking.
You squeaked and shook your legs. “This is also a thing that can’t keep happening, Astarion, you bastard”, you whisper-screamed at him and drummed your fists on his back.
“I don’t care, my love. I played the hero and defended my lady from the vicious villain, now I get to have my reward”, Astarion proclaimed and patted your butt.
“Your reward will be a major beating when I get down from here”, you hissed but you knew he was only teasing you.
“Ugh, don’t tease me with a good time, my love”, Astarion quickly shot back and gave your butt a slap.
You yelped and sulked that he so easily outwitted you when it came to playful banter. You leaned your elbows on his back and put your head on your open palm as you pouted over his insolent behaviour.
Then when you were almost home, you decided to try a different approach: “Hey, want to hear another pun?” Astarion groaned.
“What do you call the woman letting herself be carried home by the vampire?”, you asked as the vampire took the few steps to the front door of your house. Then he carefully set you down on the final step.
“Borderline suicidal?”, Astarion answered cheerfully with a huge shit-eating grin and one eyebrow raised.
“How about completely and utterly in love with you”, you replied and leaned in for a long and tender kiss. Then the vampire broke away.
“That was the first good one I heard from you, darling”, he whispered to you. “Funnily enough the vampire is also completely and utterly in love with you, you silly little jester.”

300
Emily, Aaron and their love as observed by their friends.
AKA - the five times the team see them love each other, and the one time they don't even try to hide it.
My 300th Hotchniss fic
Part 1/2
-x-
Hi friends,
I truly cannot believe we are here, that I have written 300(!!) fics about these two idiots. I went back and forth a lot on what to write for this, but I got an ask requesting a fic where the team see these two being all soft with each other and it's perfect. A return to my fluffy roots.
Thank you so much for still being here, for interacting with my fics and still making me feel nothing short of giddy whenever I get a comment or kudos. Writing makes me feel better, and it never gets any less amazing when people tell me my writing helps them too.
Anyway, here is part 1 of this two 2 part fic to celebrate this milestone. Part 2 will be up in the next day or so.
Here's to the next 300! <3

Dave
He smiles as he looks around his backyard, a mix of happiness and scotch making his skin fizz as he watches his friends have fun.
It was something they’d all needed after another day full of close calls. Their jobs had always been dangerous, had always come with the risk of one of them getting hurt, but ever since Emily had died, since they’d had to bury her, it all felt sharper. He’d come to wonder at the end of those long seven months when she was dead to everyone other than JJ and Aaron if something was up, if he had the full truth, but even when she walked into the conference room he hadn’t quite believed it.
“I’ve got to say,” Emily says, walking over to him as if he’d summoned her by thinking about her, a wry smile on her face, “I’m impressed at how quickly you pulled all of this together.”
Dave takes a sip of his drink as he looks at her, “It helps to have connections.”
Her smile turns mischievous, a spark in it he worried he’d never see again for a while. She’d been different when she came back, wearing her trauma, the things she’d somehow survived, as a veil. Something that kept her further back from them all than she had once been. Then something had changed out of seemingly nowhere, her smile was real again. She joined in when Derek and Spencer were playing pranks on each other. He chastised himself for not putting two and two together, for not realising her shift in behaviour matched up with Aarons, how they both seemed happier than he had ever known them.
It was only when they told them that they were together that the pieces fell into place. He’d claimed to already know, something Emily rolled her eyes at immediately, but they’d covered it well. Even now he had to watch closely to see the small moments between them. It didn’t surprise him, they were both intensely private even separately, so together they’d go to lengths to protect their relationship - even from those who cared about them.
If he hadn’t already known about them, if they hadn’t finally admitted to the change in their relationship just a couple of weeks ago, he would have figured it out the moment Emily stepped into the bank. Aaron had been beside himself, a tension in his shoulders and jaw that Dave hadn’t seen in years. When Emily emerged from the bank, okay but shaken, she’d all but thrown herself into Aaron’s arms, their embrace tight as they whispered things no one else could hear to each other.
“I guess it also helps that you’ve planned four weddings before,” she quips, and he rolls his eyes, shaking his head at her.
“Three,” he corrects, “I’ve been married three times.”
She shrugs playfully, suppressing her smile as she presses her lips together, “Sorry. Three.”
His response is cut off as Aaron walks over, a smile on his face as he passes Emily a glass of wine.
“Here you go, sweetheart,” he says, his smile getting wider as she looks at him. It’s as if they briefly forget anyone else is around when their eyes meet, so focused on each other that Dave thinks he could catch fire and they wouldn’t notice.
Emily smiles softly and presses a kiss to Aaron’s cheek, side steeping a little closer to him so she can wrap her arm around his waist, “Thanks, honey.”
Dave can’t help but smile as he watches them, how Aaron wraps his arm around her shoulders, his palm against her bare arm as he smiles at her. They were being affectionate with each other in a way they usually would be, encouraged by a mix of alcohol and the remnants of the danger she’d been in earlier, and it only confirms what he already knew.
They were in love with each other.
Emily frowns at him when she turns and looks at him to find that he is still watching them, “What?”
He shakes his head and clears his throat, “Nothing.”
She narrows her eyes but turns back to Aaron, tilting her head as their eyes meet, “Want to dance?”
Aaron hesitates, grimacing slightly as he looks towards the dance floor, “I’m not a big dancer, Em.”
She places her hand on his chest, her fingers playing with the open neck of his collar, and she bats her eyelashes, something Dave can see from where he’s standing, “Come on, please. For me.”
Aaron sighs and shakes his head, “Fine, for you,” he says, pressing a kiss to her lips before he shifts his hand to her lower back to turn her towards the dance floor. He turns and looks at Dave over his shoulder and looks pointedly at his friend, “Don’t say a word.”
He holds up his hand in defence and smiles, “Wouldn’t dare.”
He can’t help but watch as they dance together, again lost in their own little world as they move around the dance floor. Aaron whispers something that makes Emily laugh, her head turned towards him as she captures his lips in a kiss, either not caring or not realising that everyone is looking over at them curiously.
As he walks towards the bar for another drink, he can’t help but wonder if this was the only wedding he’d be hosting in his backyard for his friends.
___
JJ
She grimaces as she slams down the empty shot glass, shaking her head as the liquor burns her throat.
“Another round?”
JJ groans as she looks up at Penelope, shaking her head vehemently, the movement making her feel briefly even drunker, “Absolutely not.”
Emily sips her beer, her face covered in a scowl as she tries to chase away the taste of the absinthe, “I’m with JJ,” she says, clearing her throat, “Is it just me, or did absinthe used to go down a little easier?”
“It’s not just you,” JJ assures her, and they both chuckle. Penelope huffs and sits back down, rolling her eyes at her friends.
“You two used to be fun.”
Emily chuckles and places her hand on Penelope’s arm, “We’re still fun,” she insists, “But Aaron is on his way to pick me up and I really don’t want to throw up in his car.”
JJ can’t help but smile as her friend mentions her boyfriend, how her eyes light up slightly, her usual ability to school her features inhibited by the number of shots Penelope had forced on them. In the two months they’d known about Aaron and Emily they’d given very little away about their relationship. They kept it to themselves, to the point where often if JJ didn’t know they were together she wouldn’t see it. They’d always been private, and even tonight Emily hadn’t said much, no matter how much Penelope tried to pry information out of her.
She was happy for Emily, and for Aaron too, delighted that they’d found the happiness that they deserved after everything they’d been through.
At the mention of Aaron and Emily’s relationship, Penelope immediately lights up, her nose scrunching up slightly, “It’s still so weird to hear you call him that.”
Emily smiles and furrows her brow, “What, Aaron?” She asks teasingly, sipping her beer as her smile turns mischievous, “Did you really expect me to call him Hotch after we started fuc-”
“Okay, stop,” Penelope says, shivering slightly, “I don’t like to think of him like that,” she says dramatically, “I’d prefer to carry on thinking of him as a once a year, in the dark and under the covers kind of guy.”
Emily laughs, throwing her head back as she does so, the sound loud and joyful as it escapes her, “I can assure you Pen, that absolutely is not the case.”
JJ looks up as she hears the door to the bar open and she spots Aaron walking in, and she waves him over. It catches Emily’s attention and she looks over her shoulder, her smile impossibly wide as she turns back around and gets out of her chair.
JJ watches as Emily bounds over to Aaron, slightly unsteady on the high heels she’d been complaining about all night. She wraps her arms around Aaron the moment she makes it to his side, and his hands land on her waist, steadying her as she almost stumbles against him. She stamps her lips against his, and JJ has to hide a laugh behind her drink when Aaron pulls back, his eyes nervously darting over to her and Penelope. Emily leads him over, both of her arms wrapped around one of his as he smiles slightly awkwardly, endearing in a way that JJ wouldn’t have expected.
“Hello Sir,” Penelope says, sitting up straight, clearly trying to act more sober than she was.
Aaron chuckles lightly and shakes his head, “Hi,” he says, looking back and forth between the two of them, “You don’t have to call me Sir we’re not at work.”
Emily chuckles and buries her face in his shoulder, kissing him through the thin material of his shirt. He pulls her slightly closer, his hand running up and down her side, and it’s something thats so tender, so soft, JJ aches. It was all the proof she needs that this was it for them, that they truly were the happy ending they both deserved.
“Do either of you need me to take you home?” He asks, clearing his throat and attempting to hide a smile as Emily clearly grabs his ass, her well known tactile nature when she was drunk making an appearance.
JJ shakes her head, “No, thank you though. Will is already on his way and he’s going to drop Pen home too.”
He smiles and nods and looks down at Emily, his smile adoring as she looks up at him,” You ready to go?”
She nods and looks over at her friends, waving goodbye instead of hugging them like she usually would, seemingly unable to tear herself away from her boyfriend.
“Let me know when you’re home, okay?” She says, and both JJ and Penelope nod, she smiles at them once more before she and Aaron turn around and leave. JJ watches them until they are no longer in the bar, disappearing into the night outside.
“They are adorable,” Penelope says and JJ smiles as she looks at her.
“They really are,” she agrees and then she feels her phone vibrate in her pocket, and she pulls it out to see a message from Will, “Oh Will is here.”
They finish their drinks and head outside. She smiles as she spots her husband leaning against his car, his arms crossed over his chest and a smile on his face.
“Hi darling,” he says, smiling as she walks over and kisses him, “Did you ladies have fun?”
She smiles as Penelope stumbles as she tries to get into the back of the car, “Some of us more than others.”
She walks around the car to get into the passenger side and she hears a laugh that sounds a lot like Emily’s. She follows the sound and freezes when she sees her, happily on Aaron’s back as he gives her a piggyback. Aaron is walking towards his car, Emily’s shoes in one hand and the other one of her legs, securing her to his back as she leans in, her lips against his ear as she laughs.
It was something she wouldn’t believe happened if she hadn’t seen it herself, a playful moment between two people who so rarely showed that side of them, but it was also full of love and tender care. She can imagine Emily complaining that her feet hurt and Aaron immediately offering to help.
“Ready to go darling?” Will asks, pulling her out of what she was watching and she turns to look at him and smiles as she climbs into the car.
She tries to spot them again but can’t and she sighs happily as she settles into her seat, happiness for her friends warming her from the inside out.
___
Spencer
He was always the first to the jet.
It was a pattern he knew well. He’d be there first, then Aaron. Then JJ, Dave and Derek in that order. Emily was always last, never late but always last, a smile on her face as Dave inevitably made a comment about it.
It was the first thing he’d noticed. Emily suddenly started arriving just a few minutes after Aaron, an air about her that Spencer hadn’t seen since Ian Doyle had torn through their lives. He couldn’t place it, his curiosity mostly focused on why she was all of a sudden consistently showing up to work just after Aaron, disrupting the pattern he’d long since relied on. It’s only when he spots Aaron sneaking out of Emily’s room one morning, Spencer’s morning hunt for coffee interrupted as he hid out of the way so the other man didn’t spot him, that he put it together.
They were seeing each other.
After that, he noticed so much more. How they’d sit next to each other at every given opportunity, how they’d seek each other out in a room, a tension in their shoulders until they saw each other. They were both undeniably happier, and for a reason he didn’t understand keeping it to themselves. He kept the secret for them, never hinting that he knew, even when they finally told the team that they were together he simply smiled and nodded, aware that no one would have expected him to pick up on it anyway.
He checks his watch and looks at the time, huffing out a breath. He looks out the window and, right on schedule, he spots Aaron and Emily on the tarmac. They’d dropped any pretence that they weren’t travelling in together the moment they told them all about their relationship a few months ago. He watches them curiously as they stop a few feet short of the steps leading up to the jet.
Aaron has both of their go bags slung over his shoulder and they are holding hands. Emily lifts their joint hands to her lips and kisses the back of his hand, smiling as she says something Spencer can’t hear before she leans in and stamps a kiss to Aaron’s lips. He then pulls her into a hug, his hand running up and down her back for a moment before he says something too, kissing her cheek before he pulls away.
They step apart from each other, and Spencer realises that he’s watching them switch from Aaron and Emily into Hotch and Prentiss, a transition that appears seamless as Emily walks up the stairs to the jet first. Aaron just behind her, her bag over his shoulder the only sign that they were anything other than colleagues.
“Morning, Spence,” Emily says, smiling as she steps onto the jet slipping into the seat opposite him.
“Morning,” he replies, flashing a smile at her as Aaron places their bags in the overhead compartments, and he nods as they make eye contact, “Hotch.”
“Morning Reid,” he says, his smile turning slightly soft as he looks at Emily, “Coffee?”
She nods, “Yes please.”
Aaron turns to go to the kitchenette but turns back, “Reid?”
He shakes his head and holds up the coffee he had in his hands, “I’m good, thank you.”
Aaron disappears behind the curtain and Emily turns to look at Spencer, smiling curiously as their eyes meet, “You okay?”
They smile at each other. Spener had never had a sister, but he wondered if this is what it felt like to have one. He’d mourned Emily in a way that still hurt if he thought about it, the loss of her leaving a hole in his chest that he still felt at times. He loved her as a friend, as someone he knew he could trust with his life, and he wanted nothing more than for her to be happy.
He nods and clears his throat, “Yeah, I’m okay,” he replies, smiling at his friend, his lips pressed together as he tries to figure out what to say, “I’m…I’m happy for you and Hotch.”
She smiles, her cheeks going slightly red as she avoids eye contact and looks at the table between them, “Oh,” she says, biting her lower lip “Thank you. I’m happy for us too.”
Aaron walks back out, unaware of the moment he’d walked in on and he places a cup of coffee in front of Emily before placing his down.
“Don’t panic,” he says dryly as he sits down next to her, “But they ran out of Splenda,” he says and she scoffs, but before she can say anything Aaron reaches into the pocket of his suit jacket and pulls out two single serve packets of Splenda and places them in front of her, “Good thing I came prepared.”
“My hero,” She gasps playfully, the sound turning into a chuckle as she kisses his cheek, seemingly briefly forgetting where they were, Aaron smiles and clears his throat, looking quickly at Spencer, and Emily does the same, clearing her throat as she sits backwards, “Thanks for the coffee,” she says, smiling as she tears the packets open, paying attention to her drink as she adds the sweetener in, her smile turning playful as she looks back up at him, “Hotch.”
They look at each other in a way that Spencer doesn’t entirely understand, smiles passing over both of their faces very briefly before Aaron responds.
“You’re welcome, Prentiss.”
___
Penelope
She was excited to spend the weekend with Sergio.
Penelope hadn’t wanted to give him back to Emily at first, knowing she’d miss the company of the adorable black cat, but she knew it was the right thing to do. He was Emily’s pet, a piece of normality she deserved after everything she’d been through.
So when Emily asked if she’d watch Sergio for the weekend since she knew she was going away with Aaron and Jack, a weekend away just the three of them, she’d jumped at the chance. She’d got out all of the bits and pieces shed bought when she had Sergio, meaning all she needed to get from Emily was the carrier and Sergio himself.
Penelope knocks on Emily’s front door and waits patiently for a few seconds as the door opens. Emily smiles as she pulls it open, stepping back to let Penelope in.
“Pen, hi,” she says, looking as gorgeous as ever, even though she was simply wearing her pjyamas made of a t-shirt and leggings. She was fresh out of the shower, her hair damp against her large light grey t-shirt, darker patches of material over her shoulders wetted by her hair, “Good timing, I only just got out of the shower.”
Penelope chuckles as she looks around, keeping an eye out for the cat, “Where’s my man?”
“Well-” she starts, but she’s cut off as Aaron walks into the room, his hair equally as wet as Emily’s, with Sergio in his arms, the cat laying in his embrace like a baby, his black paws reaching up for his face.
“Em, someone’s acting up. I think he knows we’re going away for the…” he says, trailing off when he realises they aren’t alone, his back immediately straightening as he looks at Penelope, “Garcia,” he says, clearing his throat when Emily raises an amused eyebrow at him, a reminder of a conversation Penelope hadn’t been privy to, “I mean, Penelope. Hi.”
She suppresses a smile at how uncomfortable he clearly is, and she decides to be as calm about this as possible, knowing if she made too big a deal of seeing this tiny insight into their lives they’d both clam up.
“Sir…Hotch,” she says, watching as Emily walks over to Aaron and leans against him, taking the opportunity to scratch Sergio under his chin, “I didn’t realise you’d be here.”
“Well,” he says, shrugging slightly, “Jack is with Jessica this evening, so I thought I’d help Emily with her packing for our trip.”
Emily scoffs playfully, “I can pack by myself.”
“Sure, sweetheart,” he says, seemingly more relaxed by the second. Penelope can’t help but look at them, how comfortable they are together, how easy it seems for them to be around each other. She feels almost giddy as she imagines their future, a baby in Aaron’s embrace instead of Sergio, and she has to shake her head at herself to stop herself from getting carried away.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen Sergio more relaxed,” Penelope says, laughing as the cat stretches as if he knew he was being spoken about.
“Oh, Aaron is his favourite person in the whole world now,” Emily says, taking the cat from Aaron, laughing when he tries to scramble back into his arms, “We’ve been replaced, Pen.”
“This is such a betrayal, Serg,” she gasps playfully as she takes the cat from Emily, scratching his head, and when she looks back up Aaron has his arm wrapped around Emily again, his hand against a t-shirt Penelope now realises must be his.
“In Sergio’s defence,” Emily says, her palm on Aaron’s chest, “He does give excellent hugs.”
They all stand in silence for a few moments and Penelope just takes the chance to watch them together, how they look at each other as if no one else was in the room. She wishes she’d meddled more years ago when she first brought up the option of Aaron as a potential date to Emily. She wanted them to have had this for so much longer than the six months they had, but she also knows that they needed to get to where they were now for this to work, that the timing was right. They’d survived everything they had to make it here.
“I’ll make sure to send you pictures of him whilst you’re gone,” she says, scratching Sergio’s head, “As long as you do the same,” she adds, laughing as she winks at them.
Emily laughs and walks over, hugging her friend and leaning in to kiss Sergio’s head, her voice low and conspiratory, but purposely loud so Aaron still hears her, “I’ll get a picture on the beach for you.”
Aaron rolls his eyes lovingly but doesn’t say anything as he hands over the cat carrier, holding it open as Penelope puts Sergio inside of it.
“Have a lovely weekend,” she says, picking up the carrier, “I’ll make sure no cases come through.”
“Penelope…” Aaron says warningly, his tone lost as Emily talks over him.
“Thank you, you’re the best.”
They exchange goodbyes, and as she leaves she turns back and catches sight of them before the door closes. Aaron wraps his arm around Emily, her surprised yelp ringing out in the hallway before the door shuts, and she just about sees him lean in to kiss her before they disappear from view.
Sergio meows from his carrier and Penelope looks down at him before she starts heading towards the elevator, “Come on Serg, I think it’s time I start getting you ready to be a big brother.”
She wondered if it was too early to plan a bachelorette party for her friend before she was even engaged.
___
Derek
He knows he’s the one who struggled with their relationship the most.
Everyone else was happy, almost giddy, when Emily and Aaron told them they were together, but it had left him with a bitter taste on his tongue. The fallout of finding out about Emily’s past, and the decisions she’d made, were still difficult for him to grapple with. He didn’t know how to feel about the fact she’d ended up with their boss, the man who had led them all to believe she was dead for seven months, so he’d distanced himself from them both.
His mother had always taught him if he didn’t have something nice to say, he shouldn’t say it at all, so he says nothing. He knows neither of them are stupid, that they would have picked up on his feelings about it all, but they don’t say anything either, nothing more than a sharp look Aaron would send in his direction if he blew Emily off when she asked if he wanted to get a drink after work.
Derek listens as Penelope gushes over them, how she whispers to him about what they’d been like when she went to pick up Sergio just a few weeks before, how she even bets him $50 that Emily and Aaron are the real deal, but he still struggles. He hadn’t seen them interact romantically beyond a quick kiss here and there when they were out as a group, and he couldn’t see it. Couldn’t see the softness that he’d had described to him by two people he’d never seen that way with anyone. Even when Aaron was married to Haley he kept that part of his life to himself, never giving more of a hint than his arm around his wife’s shoulders in a bar.
Emily sighs next to him, blowing air out through her lips as they kept an eye on the building the unsub was in, the team all around them.
“You ok over there Prentiss?”
She nods at him, her smile tight as she raises her hand to her lips, biting her cuticle, “Yeah,” she says quickly, “I’ll just be happy when this takedown is over.”
She’d made her feelings on it clear, her unhappiness that Aaron was going in alone to a hostage situation so the unsub didn’t hurt anyone else obvious from the moment the idea was floated by them.
“Hotch can handle himself,” Derek says, raising an eyebrow at her, “He’s been through worse.”
“I know what he’s been through,” she snaps, her control on a knife edge as she looks at him, “Better than you do. I just don’t…” she shakes her head and chuckles, looking back at the building her boyfriend had walked into, “I don’t see the need for unnecessary risk.”
“Would you be this worried if it was me or Rossi in there?” He asks, genuinely curious, “Or is it just because you’re sleeping with him?”
She looks sharply at him, a scoff escaping her as her eyes harden, “What the hell is that supposed to mean?”
Before he can reply their radio clicks and the local detective’s voice comes over it, “The suspect is apprehended, we need a medic.”
Emily’s eyes go wide, and she presses the button on her radio, “Who we do need a medic for?” She asks, already walking towards the building, shaking off his arm as she goes.
“Agent Hotchner was hit.”
Emily takes off at a run and Derek follows her, yelling her name but she ignores him, rushing into the building before it’s officially cleared. He’s only a few paces behind her, and he’s relieved when he walks in to find Aaron conscious and sitting on the floor, a cut on his forehead as he hugs Emily tightly, her arms wrapped around him.
“Are you okay?” She asks, cupping Aaron’s cheeks as she sits back on her heels, her eyes scanning over his face, “He said you were hit, I thought…”
“Sweetheart,” he says, placing his hand over hers on his cheek and turning his head to kiss her palm, an intimate moment Derek feels strange observing, but he can’t tear his gaze away, “I’m okay. I promise. He hit me with his gun.”
Emily sighs and leans forward, as if the air had been knocked out of her as she kisses him, the kiss desperate as a breath shudders out of her, “I’m so…I thought…”
“I know,” Aaron says, tucking some of her hair behind her ear, comforting her as if she was the one who’d been hurt, “I’m okay, I promise.” He repeats, his smile kind and loving as he pulls her hand from his cheek and kisses it, “I’m okay.”
She nods, a sound escaping her that Derek thinks is close to a sob and she smiles, “I love you.”
“I love you too,” he replies, and Derek feels frozen in place, his assumptions about their relationship shattered around his feet. He only realises he’s staring when Emily looks at him, residual anger from his comment outside still lingering in her eyes.
“Morgan, can you get the paramedics, he needs looking at.”
Aaron sighs, “Em, I’m seriously-”
She places her hand on Aaron’s shoulder without even looking at him, holding him in place, “The paramedics please.”
Derek nods wordlessly and leaves, making a purposeful choice not to walk back in once he’s directed the EMTs to where they are, making himself busy by directing civilians around and helping the local cops. It’s later when Aaron walks out with nothing but a bandage on his head, Emily by his side, hovering nearby as much as she can with them still being in a professional setting. It wouldn’t take a profiler to see how she was barely holding herself together, how seeing the man she loved hurt had shaken her, and all of a sudden all the unkind thoughts he’d had about their relationship weigh heavily on him.
Aaron is insistent on seeing the case through, already talking to Dave, waving off his concern as he talks about their game plan when it comes to interrogating the unsub. Derek walks over to where Emily is standing, her gaze fixed on Aaron as if he might disappear at any moment, her cuticle back in between her teeth. Derek takes a deep breath and walks over to her, scratching the back of his head as he makes it to her side.
“Em-”
She groans and looks at him, “Can we not do this right now, Derek?” She asks, sounding nothing short of exhausted, “I don’t-”
“I wanted to apologise,” he says, cutting over her, knowing he wasn’t going to say it otherwise, “I haven’t been a good friend lately,” he says, looking over at Aaron, “If he makes you happy, that should be enough.”
She nods and crosses her arms over her chest, “Yes, it should be,” she says, raising her eyebrows as she looks at him and shrugs, “I don’t understand what your issue with this is. I…I think have an idea but I don’t want to get into it now,” she says chuckling humourlessly as she shakes her head, “But can I just ask you to do something?”
He nods, “Of course.”
She smiles wryly, “Can you maybe get your head out of your ass before we get married and have kids?” She says casually, “Because thats where this is going, and it would suck to not have you involved in any of this.”
He thinks it might be the most honest thing she’s ever said to him, certainly the most vulnerable. Layers of herself that she’d hidden from him, from them all, for years shining through from under the armour she’d had since she was young. It makes any lingering negative thoughts about their relationship disappear and he nods, reaching out and squeezing her arm.
“I think I can do that,” he says, smiling softly at her, and she smiles too, briefly squeezing his hand before she steps away, walking towards Aaron as if pulled towards him.
Derek stands in place and watches as she walks over, her hand on Aaron’s back as she steps next to him, both of them relaxing in each other's presence.
He sighs as he turns away, looking for something to do, and he idly realises he owes Penelope $50.

Tumblr media
the car ride with mingyu back to your new apartment brought you a comfort that you didn’t quite expect. you had known each other for years at this point, but given the last time you had been alone with him, you were expecting several awkward silences to fill the air.
but it never does.
from the moment he walked past your front door and engulfed you in a hug, and you feel yourself freezing and eventually melting into his arms, you knew it was a foolish thing to expect. this is mingyu, one of your dearest friends, and had it not been for the vagueness of your relationship — or lack thereof — the past couple of years, you would have stayed in his embrace just a while longer.
your walls are still ever so slightly up, and though you receive his words warmly, laugh at his jokes, make little comments in between the stories he tells. you don’t steal longing little glances at him, as you would have done so before, and a small surge of pride courses through your veins.
“how long are you staying again?” you ask, watching the several buildings go by from the passenger seat window.
mingyu turns the familiar corner the street of your apartment building. “about a month. i have a lot of projects lined up.”
“hm.” you nod, not realizing how long you both would actually be in the same time zone. you never had him with you for more than a week after you finished your studies. “i hope you leave some gaps in your schedule for us.”
although he recognizes the joking tone in your voice, mingyu answers you earnestly. “of course, i will. i know i’d regret it if i don’t- you know, make an effort.”
you turn to look at him, but he’s already looking back. you hold his gaze for only a couple of seconds before staring back ahead. “we appreciate it… did you ever consider being based here instead? i mean- you’ve got friends, family here. don’t you think it’s time to put down some roots?”
mingyu parks the car in front of your apartment building. he lets out a breath before turning to you with a smile and a shrug. “i’m in no rush. i mean, yeah, the constant jet lag isn’t great, the endless rumors are terrible… but, i really do like what i do. we’re young, we’ve got time.”
“no, yeah- i know what you mean. it’s just-” you pause, biting your bottom lip and choosing your next words as carefully as you can. “we do miss you. me, jeonghan, soonyoung, hansol.. not being in uni anymore kind of gave us less excuses to really hang out. and we’re all here, but you-”
“i know too.” mingyu sighs. “are you putting down roots already?”
you shake your head. “i’m not looking too far into the future, and i’m still taking things a day at a time. i also feel like i have so much to accomplish with my career-”
“so not much has changed with you since new york?”
“not exactly. being here gave me stability.. but not in the way that’s unchanging. the kind that makes me feel like i’m on firm footing, and i could move with confidence that i couldn’t before and i don’t have to-” you stop in your tracks, the words you need seeming to escape you. your lips are left parted and you try to catch a breath.
mingyu reaches out a hand and holds yours. his touch is familiar, comforting, but not as much as it used to be. “i get it. you have a constant stream of projects here thanks to referrals from your company, instead of being freelance… and well, i wasn’t exactly the most constant or reliable of partners.”
it’s the first time he’s ever acknowledged whatever it was the two of you had as anything other than a friendship. there’s a sense of understanding that envelops the two of you, and nothing more needs to be said. he knew what he lacked. you know what you need. it is enough.
he retracts his hand, and once again a small space is present between you.
everything is okay. this is enough. love is there, and unlike seokmin’s where it’s transformed to a kind that’s different but just as powerful, this one slowly fades and mellows out to a more gentle affinity.
“well, thanks for accompanying me.”
“thanks for insisting on paying for dinner.” mingyu chuckles before nudging his head in the direction of the backseat, where several grocery bags were waiting. “you need any help with those?”
“i’m good.”
with one quick goodbye, you grab your groceries and head inside the building. the exhaustion from the day finally takes over your body, your shoulders slumping. with all the catching up with mingyu, you never quite noticed how much you had on your mind.
you were on the latter half of the moving process and most of the things you need were now in your new apartment. you walk in a daze to the elevator, thinking about how minghao was yet to reply to your email on your photos you selected for his approval.
a giant tired breath escapes your lips as you watch the elevator doors close shut.
“wait up!”
you hear someone call and almost immediately your instincts take over and you move to push the button that opens the doors. what you didn’t expect is to be greeted with none other than the presence of xu minghao himself.
you try your best not to let your shock show through as he steps inside, standing just a couple of feet away from you. since you’re much closer to the buttons, you wait for him to tell you what floor he’s on.
“i’m on the eight floor as well.”
“oh.”
the doors shut and you begin to feel the elevator’s gentle upward movement. given your exhaustion and the weight of your groceries, you wobble ever so slightly. minghao reaches a hand to your arm, steadying you, and moves the other to hover behind your back just in case.
“you okay?”
“i’m fine.” you attempt to say as calmly as you could, moving the arm that he’s holding. minghao immediately lets go, his arms falling to his sides.
he subtly cranes his head to glance at you. his gaze scans your face and body to examine for any signs of fatigue, which he quite easily finds. minghao didn’t need to know you for very long to notice the bags under your eyes, or the invisible creases between your brows. he points to the bags in your hands. “need any help with those?”
the elevator doors open with bright sounding ding.
“i can handle it. thank you.” your grip is tighter as you move past the doors and walk down the hallway to your new place. you don’t know if it’s a point of pride that made you deny his help, but it was too late to turn back now.
even through the carpeted flooring, you hear his footsteps following from behind you.
“i guess you’re my new neighbor. if i-“ he pauses, clearing his throat as you both reach the two units on the farthest end of the hallway. you’re both standing in front of your respective front doors, bodies turned to face each other’s. “if i had known someone new was moving in, i would have prepared some sort of gift- like a housewarming gift. but i was away for a few days and-”
“it’s fine, minghao.” you cut him off with a weak smile, shaking your head. “i’ve barely moved in so you haven’t reached the limit of no-housewarming-gift-rudeness.”
you say it blankly, without much trace of emotion, but he still lets out a quiet, dry chuckle. minghao briefly looks down at his feet before looking back up at you. “do you drink tea?”
“um, i-” you tilt your head to the side, confused at the suddenness of the question.
“you should. it’s good for you.”
“i’ll keep that in mind. thanks.” you nod, placing your bags down so you could unlock your door. you turn the doorknob and just as you are about to cross the threshold, you speak out. “it would be great if you could respond to my email, by the way. not that i’m rushing you or anything, it’s just that jun and the rest of the team are waiting.”
“i didn’t receive any email from you.” minghao furrows his brows, a look of pure confusion plastered on his features. “and i check my emails almost every hour, even when i was away these past few days.”
you take a step back, both in shock and slight resentment. “i definitely sent you one.”
“i promise you i did not receive one, yn.”
a string of annoyance within you just snaps when he says your name. whatever disdain you thought you could push down since you’re not exactly in a working environment starts bubbling up from the pit of your stomach. no, you’re sure you sent that email. you even distinctly remember sending a follow up just this morning.
you gently drop the rest of your bags and feel around your pockets for your phone. taking the few steps it takes to walk towards him, you open your email app and scroll through your inbox to find the ones you’ve sent him.
“look.”
you hand him your phone and you watch as his lips purse and his eyes move back and forth. after a minute of tense silence, he finally hands you your phone back.
“you misspelled my name in my email address.”
minghao tries his best to inform you of your mistake as gently and as calmly as he can, keeping in mind how exhausted you already seem to me. however, it doesn’t quite register with you as all you wanted in that moment was the ground to come up and swallow you whole.
it takes everything in you to not run towards your apartment and drop the conversation entirely. your knees buckle as you eventually speak, “oh my, i- i’m so sorry.”
“it’s fine.” minghao raises both his hands. “an honest mistake, really.”
“i’ll send it as soon as i get inside.” you quickly turn on your heel and walk back towards your apartment. “sorry again, i’ll see you around.”
“i’m sure i can get back to you quickly.” minghao’s voice stops you in your tracks just before you’re about to fully enter and leave his line of sight. “i trust your judgement.”
your eyes narrow, trying to decide if he truly means his words or just trying to make you feel better. if it was the latter, you don’t have it in you to protest from all the embarrassment that’s currently surging through body. instead, your lips simply press into a thin line.
“i’ll be waiting then. good night, yn.”
“good night.”
you enter your apartment and rest your back on the front door the second you close it. letting out another heavy breath, you can’t help but wonder what the rest of your days would look like with minghao as your neighbor.

Under his influence (Post Avengers! Loki x female reader)
Read chapter 4 here // Series Masterlist
Chapter 5
Summary : The cuddle streak is broken by the end of your 30th birthday.
Warning: mention of drinking, sweet loki is sweet, short chapter (3k words)
Tumblr media
In the morning you again woke up before him. Thank the gods. This has been going on for a week now, you had decided to put a stop to it like three nights ago but that obviously didn't work. You sneaked out of his embrace slowly and tiptoed towards the bathroom as if you were doing the walk of shame. Why did you always feel like such a sinner in the morning?
"It's just cuddles..be a mature adult about this" you mumbled to yourself. Well mature adults don't cuddle their mature friends. Also you shouldn't be cuddling men who existed even before the 19th century.
It was your birthday tomorrow, the day you have been dreading since your last birthday, the awful 30th, you were officially going to step out of your 20s with nothing to boot about. Nothing you ever did in life had made you proud of yourself.
For once you managed to leave the apartment without bumping into him, though why did he have to look so good when he was in deep sleep?
"So your place tomorrow? We are excited" Lyla squealed and you gave her a smile. Her and a bunch of other colleagues at the gym invited themselves to your birthday party that you didn't want to have in the first place.
"Yeah okay I'll see you tomorrow" as if you had any other options.
As you went home, he was folding your laundry, he was such a good roommate that you'd often forget that he wasn't your roommate. However as soon as he grabbed your grandma panties you snatched it out of his hand with the speed of the lightening.
"It's just a piece of fabric" he let out a hearty laugh so you glared at him.
"It's …intimate" So are the spooning sessions at night but he didn't see you complaining about them. None of you mentioned anything about them cuddles in the light of the day and it was starting to rub him in a certain way. A part of him was relieved because he wasn't sure if he was up for that conversation just yet, he didn't even know how you perceived him, was he just a friend? Only a friend?
"So big day tomorrow, are we having a celebration?" you sighed as he said that. You felt anxious telling him that he'd have to stay invisible tomorrow when your co-workers would come, it was one thing to introduce him to the family but you didn't want to put him at more risk. What if you get drunk and mess up or he does the whole magicky thing out of nowhere. You didn't want him to get caught, what would they do to him if he was to get caught? Would they hurt him? The thought made you want to cuddle him again.
"Uhhh actually my coworkers will be coming. I guess people really do like free drinks huh?" He chuckled as you said that
"So I'm assuming you won't be requiring my presence here?"
God he made everything easy, he just always knew what to say
"Loki, I want you here, you're my friend. It's just I don't want to put your life at risk, there would be several people, pictures will be taken and shared on Facebook or something, I'm sure Tony Stark must have the high technology where they can trace you with your face print or something right?" He continued to smile as you blabbed incoherently.
"I suppose so"
"I'm sorry" your eyes teared up so he walked towards you. He was wearing that cute blue shirt you had gotten for him. The color really popped his eyes, it also contrasted with his light pale skin so well.
"You don't have to apologize my darling, we will celebrate afterwards if you'd be open to that"
"Of Course.. ofcourse"
"This is your home, I don't ever want you to feel burdened by my presence "
"You never burden me Loki, I love living with you" his brows wiggled as you said that "I meant I like it..just a healthy amount" you chuckled as you walked away to put the stack of clothes in the closet. You wanted to die at the moment, actually dying while still in your 20s didn't sound so bad "It's not like I'm obsessed with you or anything " you mumbled but he only gave you his signature smile in response.
"How are you feeling?" He asked you, making you sigh deeply
"Well I'm bummed for sure. I mean I'll never get to be in my twenties again you know? The ship has sailed, the boats have..uhh boated. I don't know." The boat has bailed would have rhymed better but nope "Did you feel this way when you turned uhhh I don't know.. seven hundred" Your voice got lower and then higher by the end of the sentence, sometimes it was hard to grasp that he indeed was more than a thousand years old.
"Well in Asgard the numbers barely hold any value. It is the intelligence that's of significance when determining whether or not a man has matured completely, we grow up in phases, numbers are just that..numbers"
"Huhh. So are you a fully matured grown up?" You asked him and he chuckled
"Merely a few years back I thought that the mass extinction of my own kind would finally gain me the approval of Odin so I believe the answer would be no"
He smiled but you could tell that part of his life really affected him. Of Course it did, you couldn't imagine this soft sweet baby hurting someone, let alone hurting his own kind so cruelly, but then you also didn't know what he was going through, maybe he snapped and had enough, you always felt you'd snap someday too and become a villain that's hungry for revenge. But then you always allowed the karma to do its thing, and also because you were too lazy to become an actual villain. It was too much thinking. You walked towards him and hugged him to comfort him
"Well I'm sure you have outgrown that phase of yours now because the man that i know here.. my sweet friend–" Again with the friend he thought "He's pretty amazing" Well pretty and amazing you thought.
"So are you princess" your face got warm at the pet name so you took a step away from him.
Did he just call you a princess? You would barely qualify as a peasant on Asgard.
"I'll go shower and we can eat"
You did the routine- Shower, eat, brush teeth, sleep in separate beds and then one of the two would crawl in the other's bed depending on the mood.
It was his turn today, as the clock hit 12 he crawled into your bed and snuggled into you. Before you could say anything he greeted you,
"Happy Birthday Princess" a birthday wish has never sounded so sweet
"Thank you Loki" you smiled as you hooked your arm around him "This is not as bad as I thought it would be, you being here is helping though" he chuckled as you said that "I'm not joking, i really would have been a crying mess right now if you weren't here"
"Even if I wasn't here at this moment, I think I would have find you sooner or later"
"No you wouldn't have, it was pure luck"
"I do not think something so frivolous such as luck brought me to you, that tesseract has a mind of its own, the cube wanted me here"
"Isn't it called mind stone? "
"No it's the space one..what I'm trying to convey is that perhaps our paths were destined to collide"
"You're very cute" he smiled as you said that he has never been called cute before, that word was only used for small little creatures on Asgard and not gods like him "Can I ask you a question?" You mumbled so he hummed in response.
"Are you always this cold because you're a frost god?" A frost god? He was just a giant monster.
"Yes. I can manipulate my temperature though, would you like me to go warm?"
"Would it be uncomfortable for you?"
"Just a little, nothing I can not bear"
"Mmmm then i don't want it Loki, besides i am enjoying this, perfect for summers " you chuckled as you finished your sentence, you didn't want to get so completely obvious with your crush on him. You had no idea how much your sweet words and your care for him has affected him though, someone cared about his comfort and that wasn't something he was used to having.
Next day once you got all dolled up for the party he couldn't stop staring at you, the dress you had on made you look different, he thoroughly enjoyed you being in your pajamas but this wasn't too bad either.
He wanted to give you a little something before your friends would arrive so he sat down with you on the sofa.
"I was so rattled all night because I couldn't choose what I wanted to give you as a present –"
"Loki you don't have to do that" you placed your hand on his so he looked down and it immediately made you pull back.
"I know I don't necessarily have to, I just really wanted to" you smiled as he said that "There were plenty of things I could have given you that probably would have been more suitable for a lady like you, however–" his eyes teared up and so did yours, the softness in his voice remained undefeated, you didn't even need a gift anymore, this was enough. He waved his fingers and there was a small gift box in his hand, wrapped in a pretty paper and bunch of golden flowers, he passed it to you so you started to unwrap it
"I believed you'd rather want something sentimental and personal, something that would make you think of me" When he's not there he thought. As you opened the box, you found a knife in there, it was a knife polished in pure gold, the handle made from the finest oak, it had your name on it and there was a small birthday wish engraved on the blade,
"If you ever find yourself trapped by the twisted paths of uncertainties, remember that you can always cut through and make a new one, Loki"
"Loki–" you could hardly whisper his name and then it suddenly hit you, it wasn't any ordinary knife, it was the knife you had thrown at him on the first day, you recognised the blade, he had just molded it to make it look extraordinary "Ohhh god–" you looked at him, your eyes filled with several little emotions and then you hugged him as tightly as you could,
"Loki..This--" your breath hitched in your chest, making it almost impossible to talk to him "This is the most thoughtful gift i have ever received..thank you" he grabbed your hand and placed a small kiss, the look on your face made him feel content.
"Thank you lo ..thank you so much" you hugged him for a good minute before you pulled away, at night it didn't matter because the sleep always got you but rest of the times holding him for such a long time only made your thoughts spiral.
Unfortunately you didn't have much time because your colleagues would be here soon.
"Sooo ..just curious, what were the other things you could have gifted me" you questioned him and it made him chuckle.
"Jewels Perhaps"
"Yeahh I'm not into jewels sooo" you smiled and it made him smile too. He knew you'd appreciate something that held a sentimental value "Ummm okay I was wondering if people can still touch you if you're invisible?"
"Yes, I am indeed tangible but do not worry I'll just hide in my vault "
"What?"
"Its spacious "
"Nooo noo no Loki, I can't..i would like it if you're here..with me" you smiled and he returned it.
"Alright "
He disappeared as soon as he heard the door buzzing, it felt weird to not see him and you really really wanted to see him. But knowing that he was there made you feel slightly better. As you opened the door, Lyla hugged you and Loki glared at her, this woman kept calling you chubby, he didn't like her already. There were two other ladies and three men, he kept his eyes on this particular guy, his name that he learned was Chase, he couldn't stop flirting with you even though you didn't seem interested or maybe that was his wishful thinking.
You went into the kitchen as you made them all sit down in the living room which was basically just a few feet away. Loki has graciously offered you a bunch of chairs and a table for the party. He was like a genie, he was exactly like a Genie.
One of the guys turned the tv on , giving you the headache already.
"Guys look ..look.. queen of Asgard is on tv" you ran into the living room as he said that. Queen of Asgard as in Frigga? What was she doing here?
"Loki, my son, wherever you are please return to me, I can not lose you again, enough of the jesting, your father has given me his word that there will be no consequences, please return, your family awaits your presence"
Loki had told you about her, from what he had shared you knew she was that one person he really loved and cared for. What did she mean by losing him again? Loki never shared what had really happened after his fight with Thor all those years back in Asgard.
"Come on it's a party..shut it off" Lyla whined as she sipped on her drink. You looked around in worry as you couldn't spot Loki but you knew he was watching.
"Man i wonder where that murderer bastard is" Steven, one of the guys said
"Mind your language you hear me?" You defended loki immediately,
"He's right though..a criminal like him rolling around freely isn't good for us" Stacy said and you rolled your eyes. What did they even know about him? You did, and he wasn't as evil as he should have been after everything he has been through, you knew he didn't attack NYC on his own, he was compelled and forced to do it.
You looked behind and you could see the bathroom door opening and closing so you went in there and locked the door.
"Loki are you–" before you could finish your word he had you pressed against the door with his palm right over your mouth, you looked right up into his eyes as he appeared, he was in his Asgardian clothing, a long black tunic with matching trouser, the color looked the best on him, it complimented his raven hair.
"They can hear you" he whispered quietly so you nodded, as he took a step back you breathed in deeply, the proximity always messed up your brain. All you could think about was kissing him and then him picking you up to place you down on the sink while you two would make out
"Your mother–"
"It's just so typical of Thor to involve our mother in between our quarrels" he mumbled in frustration.
"Well it's more than just a quarrel" you chuckled so he gave you a smile "She said that..there will be no consequences –"
"She's lying ofcourse "
"But she won't lie to you would she?" He chuckled again but his eyes had gotten teary this time, you squeezed your eyes shut as you remembered that she had lied to him about his heritage all his life.
"Are you okay?" You whispered so he nodded.
"Go enjoy the celebration darling, I'm absolutely alright I promise " you nodded as he said that. Maybe he just wanted to be alone.
You went back to the living room but you couldn't stop thinking about him, he seemed troubled and you wanted to hug him as tightly as you could.
Once everyone left and you couldn't have been more grateful that they did, you called out for him, he clicked his fingers and there he was, on your bed, reading his book.
"Are you okay?" You asked him so he hummed
"Are you?"
"I'm fine..a bit drunk but fine"
You gulped so he nodded.
"So that's your mom huh"
"Adoptive mother, I never even met my birth mother " he answered as he flipped the page of the book.
"Ohhh .. ummm.. soo.. do you want to celebrate my birthday..ummm there's a cake, I think you'll like it" you walked towards the kitchen and he sighed. He put the book down and followed you, his mood had turned sour but he really didn't want to upset you. He also really wanted to kiss you right now.
"Ummm so Chase asked me out on a date" he crossed his arms as you told him. That boar wanted to romance you? He didn't deserve a woman like you. Nobody did. He didn't think midgardian men possessed the heart to value a lady such as you.
"So you'd court this man?"
"I uhhh–" what were you supposed to say? You just wanted to see his reaction, you weren't sure this is the reaction you wanted. You wanted him to get jealous
"What should I do?" You questioned him like a moron and he snickered. Did he just snicker? Was he upset?
"I'm no one to make that sort of decisions for you darling"
"Well..Perhaps one date won't kill me" you mumbled. You really were picking up his lingos.
"Yeah, perhaps " Did he just use the word yeah?
"Okay ummm here's the cake " you passed him the plate so he took it. He couldn't stop you from courting other people if you wanted to, he wasn't your significant other afterall, he was just a friend, probably not even that. He was just the burden.
That night he didn't approach you for cuddling because he figured you'd rather cuddle this new man, you didn't either because you thought he didn't want to do it anymore.
Did you just ruin the cuddling arrangement by opening your big mouth? You weren't even into this Chase guy. You'd tell Chase tomorrow that you weren't into him, you weren't going to do what other people had done to you. It was deceiving.
Well that was the plan you had made before sleeping but an argument happened and for some reason you ended up on this date anyways. And Loki was definitely bitter about it. Extremely bitter.

The Wings and the Roots Part 1
1992 Hawkins
The air was hot in the squad car and Steve just wanted the day to be over. He was idling back from the road on the edge of Hawkins in a place where young drivers and out-of-towners liked to test the speed limit. The windows were down but the breeze did nothing to alleviate the heat. He glanced at his watch and groaned. Time always seemed to move slower in the summer. He only had another half hour left of his patrol, but the minutes were dragging by, and he was sweating in the stifling heat. All of his thoughts were focused on the cold beer that was waiting for him in his fridge.
“That was Alive by Pearl Jam,” the radio DJ announced. “Next on the lineup is Blood Runs by Corroded Coff-”
Steve quickly changed the station as a car sped past him in a red blur. He threw on his lights and pulled out of his hiding spot in pursuit. The car noticed him quickly and signaled that it was going to pull over to the side of the road. Steve slowed down behind it and parked. It wasn’t a car he recognized so probably someone from out of town trying to drive through Hawkins as quickly as possible. Steve couldn’t blame them. Didn’t mean they were getting out of the ticket though.
He grabbed his notebook and pushed his sunglasses into his hair as he got out of his car. He sauntered up to the rolled down window of the vehicle he had pulled over and was greeted with the wildly grinning face of Eddie Munson. The grin quickly faded as recognition sparked in his eyes.
“Har - Harrington!” Eddie stuttered. Steve was briefly pleased by the shocked look on Eddie’s face, but following that pleasure was an emotion he did not know how to describe other than it felt like something was curdling in his stomach. Eddie looked good, his curly hair wild and framing his face. A hint of black eye-liner smudged around his dark eyes. His arm rested on the window of his car, showing off a beautiful sleeve of tattoos. The opposite of Steve in every noticeable way.
“Munson,” Steve acknowledged outwardly calm. Internally his brain was screaming at him that it was EddieEddieEddieEddie. “It’s been a long time. What brings you back to Hawkins?” The only way Steve was going to get through this interaction without having a nervous breakdown was to pretend that Eddie was an old acquaintance. An old friend from his past just passing through town.
“Yeah, it has,” Eddie replied, “I’m visiting my uncle for a couple weeks.”
“You were driving really fast there but I suppose I can let it go for the Rockstar that put Hawkins on the map.”
Eddie blinked sheepishly up at him. “Thanks man, but you don’t have to do that. I’ve never felt like a Rockstar when I’m in Hawkins.” He looked like he wanted to say more, but Steve needed to end this as quickly as possible.
Steve shrugged. “It was good to see you. Say hi to Wayne for me.” He turned and started walking back to his car. “And slow down!”
He watched as Eddie drove away and swore to himself that this time, he would be fine. He didn’t care about Eddie Munson. He hoped that if he kept telling himself that he didn’t care, one day it would be true.
---
Eddie’s heart was still beating quickly when he pulled into his uncle’s driveway. He sat for a moment trying to collect himself. Seeing Steve again truly rattled him. He was as beautiful as ever. And that uniform… it suited him. Eddie needed to calm down. He slapped his cheeks and grabbed his bag from the passenger seat. The house he had bought for Wayne was a small bungalow on the outskirts of Hawkins. He could have afforded to get him something nicer, but Wayne was stubborn and getting him to accept this house had taken a lot of convincing. Something grander would have been refused outright.
As he approached the door was flung open, and Wayne grabbed him in a tight embrace.
“M’boy,” Wayne mumbled into his shoulder.
Eddie gripped the man back just as tight. It had been too long since he had been back. Hawkins had forgotten that they had accused him of running a murder cult when he got famous, but Eddie would never forgive. He tried to visit as little as possible. But he wanted to spend time with Wayne now that his tour was over and the man refused to come to L.A.
“Heya pops,” Eddie smiled. “How have you been?” They held each other in the doorway for a long moment before Wayne pulled him inside.
“Good.” Wayne grabbed Eddie’s bag and led him further into the house. He dropped it onto the kitchen table and grabbed a couple of beers from the fridge. Popping the tops, he handed one to Eddie and took a long sip of his own. “Come sit and tell me how things are going in L.A.”
Eddie sat and told him about the sold-out tour he and the band had just finished. They had played in twenty cities across the States and had just signed a contract for another album that he would get started on as soon as he was back. The years had been good for Eddie; he was living his dream. Playing his music to the masses, hopefully giving the outcasts of the world something that made them feel not so alone. Someone to look up to that was like them. His hands were flying as he spoke, and he probably had a manic grin on his face, but Wayne just sat and listened, nodding along to everything Eddie said.
“I ran into Harrington on the way here. Well, he ran into me. Pulled me over just outside Hawkins, didn’t even see the cop car!” Eddie said. “He wanted me to say hi for him. Do you see him often? How long has he been a cop?” He tried to be nonchalant, but he usually avoided talking about Steve with his uncle.
“Steve comes over every now and then. He cooks, and we watch the game and have a few drinks. Been a cop for a few years now.” Eddie was absolutely gob smacked by this information. Why would Steve spend time with his uncle? What did they even talk about? Him? Probably not him. Maybe him? Definitely not him. Why hadn’t Wayne told him?
“Why!?” Eddie shrieked.
Wayne gave him a long dry look. “We spent weeks together at the hospital when you were in a coma. Boy never left your side. We got to talkin’ a little, he was scared shitless of me at first. But I could tell he cared about you. Gotta say, didn’t expect a Harrington could be such a good man. He keeps up with you, ya know?”
Eddie did not know. He did not know any of that. After how they had left things, he wouldn’t have expected Steve to stay in touch with Wayne or keep up with Eddie’s career. Knowing that Steve asked about him softened Eddie’s heart, but guilt quickly swamped the warm feeling. Wayne could see the conflicting emotions on Eddie’s face. He had never been able to hide how he felt.
“Why didn’t you tell me you saw him so often?” Eddie asked.
“Didn’t seem like ya wanted to hear about him,” his uncle replied. “You should talk to him.”
Eddie immediately began shaking his head. He had run six years ago, and even if some things were different now, Eddie was still – and always would be – a coward. He had his reasons for leaving Hawkins like he did, and Steve Goddamn Harrington was one of them. Being accused of running a satanic murder cult was another but who was counting? What the hell would he even say to Steve? That he was sorry? That he missed him? That he thought about him so often it made his heart ache? No. There was no talking to Steve.
“It’s been long enough. He asks about you every time I see him even though it always looks like it hurts him to do it. Eddie… You didn’t see him when you left. You should tell him what really happened.”
Eddie never wanted Steve to know what really happened the last night he was in Hawkins. He didn’t want any of them to know. It was bad enough that his uncle saw him in the aftermath. It still shamed him to think about it, and the last thing he wanted was more pity.
“He’s not going to want to talk to me, Wayne.”
“How do you know? It’s not too late to be friends, especially after what you went through together.”
Eddie couldn’t meet his uncle’s eyes. Friends. He didn’t think it would be possible. Pining after Steve Harrington has been one of the only constant things in Eddie’s life and it had always worked better from a distance. He had learned that lesson the hard way.
“I’ll think about it,” Eddie said.
---
Eddie Munson was everywhere. Steve ran into him at the grocery store, saw him cruising the streets in his fancy car, watched baristas flirt with him when trying to get a coffee. Steve was losing. His. Mind. Eddie had visited a few times since leaving, but by fate or design they had always managed to avoid each other. This felt like the universe purposefully messing with him, throwing the man in his path as often as possible. Steve always gave him a polite nod and then continued on his way as fast as possible. Eddie always had this earnest look on his face like he wanted to talk but Steve resolutely refused to give him a chance to.
Steve was sitting in his squad car outside the coffee shop, slowly taking sips and trying to wake up when Blood Runs started playing on the radio. It was one of Corroded Coffins’ most popular songs and played on most stations. Steve usually changed it when it came on but he felt like punishing himself a little today so he listened.
I broke my own heart Like branches off a tree Made wings out of the debris And flew so fast and far My blood has always wanted to run You were collateral damage Didn’t know how to make you mine Instead you stayed right there Looking so pretty with roots in your hair
That was enough for him…There was only so much of Eddie’s raspy voice caressing his ears that Steve could take. He turned off the radio and sat in the silent heat for a moment. Steve had always been somewhat vain and over-confident, even if he considered himself a better person now. But he wasn’t being boastful when he thought about Blood Runs being about him and Eddie. Most of Corroded Coffin’s songs were subtler, but some weren’t even trying to be about anything other than Steve. The kids brought it up often enough, always trying to coax the story of what happened out of him. He tried very hard not to think about it; The uncertainty of his feelings, the confused longing, the endless flirting. And then the kiss - Nope. Steve started his car and pulled away from the curb. Hopefully he could find some kind of public disturbance to take his mind of Eddie Munson
Unfortunately, Hawkins refused to cooperate. It was a peaceful and beautiful day. Which was usually a good thing, but today it just made Steve angry. Having Eddie in town changed something in the air, brought a tension that he wasn’t used to feeling anymore. Hawkins was safe, predictable… At least it had been for the last few years. Steve made sure of it. After hours of slowly driving through town with nothing happening to occupy his thoughts, Steve found himself unconsciously heading to Sattler Quarry.
It wasn’t a place he visited often anymore. When he was younger it was a good place to think, and he had a lot of thinking to do back then. Realizing that he wasn’t a good person in high school had been a tough pill to swallow. Between The Upside Down and his friendship with Dustin and Robin and Max, Steve had finally grown the fuck up. He liked to think that he had made up for ‘King Steve’ in some ways. He had helped to save the world after all. But another part of him felt like he still had something to make up for. That the weight of his past mistakes would hang over him forever.
He parked his car in the shade and started walking towards the stone outcrop that overlooked the water. Flies buzzed around his head and cicadas screamed in the trees and the sun played peek-a-boo through the canopy. Steve let his mind drift as he walked, tried not to think about Eddie. Couldn’t help but think about Eddie – just another person to regret. Another missed opportunity caused by Steve’s bullshit. He sighed and scrubbed his hands over his face and threw his hair.
By the time he emerged through the trees he had worked up quite a sweat. The sun shone on the water and a nice breeze lifted his hair and cooled his skin. It was perfect and beautiful, and it made Steve want to scream. So, he did. Loudly. His throat was hoarse by the time he was done. But he felt better. With that out of his system, he decided to head back to the office to catch up on some paperwork. He usually put it off as long as he could, but figured it was something he could get finished today. Something that would keep his mind busy. He looked at the water and breathed calmly for a few minutes before turning back. Eddie would be gone soon, and everything would go back to normal.
---
Steve Harrington was everywhere! Eddie watched cashiers flirt with him at the grocery store, saw him patrolling the streets in his squad car, ran into him sleepily grabbing coffee in the mornings. Eddie was losing his mind! Steve still had no business looking that good in a police uniform. Eddie hated the police! As Steve left the coffee shop with a brief nod to Eddie, he tried and failed not to stare at his ass. God, those pants hugged him in all the right places. Thank you, Hawkins P.D. Lyrics suddenly popped into Eddie’s mind.
It doesn’t always Have to be a fight But you’re just a Big Boy Swinging a bigger bat How dare you leave Looking like that?
Oh, that was good. With some tweaking, it could make a good chorus to a song. Eddie needed a napkin. Oh Stevie, my muse! Wouldn’t be the first time Eddie had written about Steve, wouldn’t be the last either. It wouldn’t be a very subtle song; Steve would know it was about him. A Big Boy swinging a bat was the most obvious reference to the man Eddie could make. Fuck it. Subtlety had never been his strength.
“Eddie!” yelled the barista. He turned quickly, his cheeks feeling warm and red. “Here’s your coffee.”
She smiled and held out the cup. When he went to grab it, she held on a little longer than necessary, smiling at Eddie and blushing. She had been flirting with him since he got to town. Eddie had come out publicly when he first started to get noticed. He refused to hide who he was anymore and being a famous queer metal-head who was once accused of satanic murder just helped his growing fame and notoriety. Women still flirted with him, and he usually flirted harmlessly back but he didn’t want to give anyone in Hawkins ideas.
“Thanks! Could I get a napkin?” he asked the barista as he started patting the pockets on his vest. He usually kept a pen on him. You never knew when inspiration would strike. And inspiration struck often with Steve Harrington around.
She handed him a napkin and he grabbed it quickly and started scribbling on the counter. She tried to peak but even if she could read upside down there was no way she could decipher Eddie’s chicken scratch handwriting. When he was done, he shoved the napkin into his back pocket and ran out of the café with a “see ya,” thrown behind him.
He was meeting up with Dustin and didn’t want to be late. He was back from school for the summer and the timing worked out perfectly for a visit. They didn’t talk often but stayed in touch as often as their busy lives allowed. Eddie finished his coffee as he drove to the Henderson’s.
When he slipped out of the car the door was already open and the stout fuzzy haired young man flung himself down the stairs and grabbed Eddie in a crushing hug.
“Eddie!” Dustin beamed up at him and Eddie grinned back. God, he missed him.
“Henderson!”
They held on to each other tightly. Dustin was still shorter than Eddie so he had his face tucked into his shoulder. He didn’t speak, there would be time for that. He just wanted to enjoy the feeling of hugging Dustin; alive and happy and here. There was a unique bond that would always tie them together and he was forever grateful to have Dustin in his life.
Family had always been a difficult thing for Eddie. Being disowned by his parents early in his life had scarred him to the idea of unconditional love for a long time. He knew Wayne loved him but it had taken them a while to be comfortable with each other and openly showing affection was still pretty new. Dustin was a revelation of what family could be – easy affection, complete understanding, fierce protectiveness. Eddie loved him.
He didn’t want the hug to end, but they slowly pulled away from each other.
“Let’s go for a walk, my mom is driving me insane,” Dustin said as he started dragging Eddie down the street.
“How are things at school?” Eddie asked.
“Amazing! I really enjoy my classes and it’s a great feeling to be challenged. Still giving my teachers a hard time though. This one professor was giving a lecture on astrophysics and gave the wrong data for one of the calculations we were supposed to be doing. When I questioned him, he said he would have to look it up. Next class he started by saying I had been right!”
Eddie laughed and shook his head. “Don’t ever change, Henderson.” Dustin smiled.
“How about you? How was the tour?”
Eddie took a deep breath. “So good. Super exhausting and living on a bus with the guys was interesting but the music and the crowds - nothing like it, man! You feel like a God up there, with thousands of people screaming your own words back at you.”
“I’m still bummed I couldn’t make it to the Boston show. Next time I’ll be there, exams be damned!”
The conversation continued as they walked. Dustin mentioned a new DnD campaign his school friends had started. Eddie missed the game, didn’t have time for the care and detail he put into his own campaigns and wasn’t interested in being a player at the moment. They talked about books and movies, catching up on the little details of each other’s lives that they had missed.
“I was talking to Steve the other day and – oh, sorry.” Dustin cut himself off.
“It’s fine, I’ve actually been running into him a bunch.”
“Have you talked to him?”
Eddie sighed.
“Not really… We mostly just nod that we acknowledge each other’s existence. I’ve tried to start a conversation a couple of times, but he always runs out. He doesn’t want to talk to me.”
“Steve doesn’t hold grudges, Eddie. He’s still good friends with Nancy and Jonathan, right? I don’t know what happened because you won’t talk about it, but it can’t be that bad. And besides, he knows what it’s like to regret past mistakes,” Dustin said earnestly, “just talk to him.”
Eddie blew raspberries and then bit his lip.
“Alright, alright! I’ll talk to him tomorrow just to get you and Wayne off my back. And when he resoundingly refuses my offer of friendship I can say I told you so and we can go back to nodding politely at each other for the rest of our lives!”
“When will you learn that I’m always right?” Dustin grinned as Eddie wacked his arm.
--
After another long day of patrolling the quiet and uneventful streets of Hawkins, Steve was finally home for the night. He was about to crash on the couch when someone knocked on his door. Sighing, he went to answer it. He was shocked to find Eddie standing outside, arm raised as if to knock again. He looked as good as he had the day before. Curly hair framing his face, a faded band T-shirt and ripped black jeans on even in the heat. It hurt to look at him, standing in the sunshine as if years hadn’t passed and they weren’t practically strangers now. Steve plastered a smile onto his face, knowing it probably looked off but not knowing what else to do.
“Munson? What are you doing here?” Steve asked.
Eddie glanced around nervously, bouncing a little on his feet. “Hey Harrington. Can I come in?”
After a moment of hesitation Steve stepped aside and gestured for Eddie to enter. He led him into the kitchen and nodded for him to take a seat at the table. Eddie was too busy looking around the room to notice. Steve tried to see it through his eyes, it was nothing like the Harrington residence he grew up in. He refused to live in a museum; this was his home. The fridge was covered in photos and letters from his family. The walls full to bursting with framed pictures and smiling faces. Beside the fridge was a corkboard with newspaper clippings and articles cut out and pinned up. Eddie gravitated toward it.
“Accomplishments,” Steve said. “There’s an article about Nancy winning an award for her journalism. She won it the year after she graduated. A local newspaper wrote a story on Will’s art exhibit. You’re up there of course.” Steve reached up and moved a clipping out of the way showing a school paper with Henderson’s name in the corner and giant red B.
“This one’s my favourite I think,” Steve pointed to it with a smile. “This was Dustin’s first and only paper to ever receive anything other than an A at MIT. Whenever he’s over he puts someone else’s article on top of it.”
“Kid always needed something to check his ego!” Eddie laughed.
He continued to stare at the board, a look of almost wonder on his face that made Steve’s stomach flip. There was more, so much more. A Hawkins Post article about Hopper coming back from the dead. A newer one with Hopper shaking Steve’s hand. A university paper showcasing Lucas’s game winning shot. And Eddie and Corroded Coffin were everywhere. Steve almost felt embarrassed, but Eddie belonged up there with everyone else that he cared about; with everyone that survived and went on to live such big and beautiful lives.
Steve cleared his throat. “So, why are you here?” Steve asked just as the phone rang. Eddie shook his hands at Steve in a ‘go for it’ gesture.
Steve walked to the phone and answered, “Steve speaking.”
“Steve! Max screamed into his ear.
“Hey, sweetheart.” Steve smiled. “You coming soon?”
“Yup! One more paper to finish and I’ll be back for the summer. Thought I could wrap it up quick but it’s more difficult than I thought it would be.”
“Take your time. Dustin’s the only one whose made it back so far. You’re good though? Getting enough sleep?” Steve could feel her rolling her eyes at him. They both still had nightmares, but Max would only call him when a particularly bad one hit.
“Yes, Mom! I can take care of myself, go babysit someone else!” Brat.
Steve laughed. “Love ya, kiddo.”
“Yeah, yeah, bye Steve!” Hanging up the phone, Steve turned back to Eddie.
“Max.” Steve explained.
“How is she?” He asked.
“She’s great.” Steve smiled. “She’s at school in Indianapolis. I’m glad she stayed close. She was going to come home this weekend but has a paper she needs to finish first.” He shrugged.
“Home? She lives with you?” Eddie asked.
Steve’s smile got bigger. “Yeah. She’s uh – well she’s my daughter, sort of? Adopted her a few months after Vecna. Her mom couldn’t do all the doctor visits and physiotherapy and the wheelchair really didn’t work in the trailer park. Gave me custody and then took off.”
Steve thought back to how Max was when she first got out of the hospital. Broken arms and broken legs, barely able to see. Her mom wholly unequipped to deal with the trauma and the healing that still had to take place. All Steve wanted to do was help. He started driving Max to her appointments, trying to coax her out of the quiet stupor she had fallen into. She was so strong. But she needed someone to be soft with, and Steve didn’t know why she chose him, but she did. She never let the others see how much she was hurting, but she showed him.
Maybe because they were so similar. They had parents that didn’t act like parents. They grew up too fast and had to learn to take care of themselves. It was difficult for Steve to let others take care of him, too. Max letting him in, being vulnerable with him helped him to be vulnerable back. It helped him to let Joyce and Hopper in. Made him realize that he didn’t always have to be useful to be wanted. To be loved.
When Susan had pulled Steve aside and told him that she was leaving, Steve did the only thing that made sense. He told Max that he could just be her legal guardian for the next few years until she was old enough to be on her own. But in a moment that would probably live in Steve’s mind as the best day of his life, Max had told him she wanted him to be her Dad. It was the one and only time she had called him that, but it didn’t matter because Steve knew how she felt. Brat still called him Mom in that annoyed but fond tone when he did anything to show how much he cared about her, but Steve would take what he could get.
Eddie was looking at him softly. “You seem really happy, Steve.”
Happy… Steve was happy. The happiest he had ever been. He had a beautiful family that loved him and a job that he actually gave a shit about it. But there was something missing. Something that had been missing for years despite his best efforts to find it again. The realization made him a little angry. Because the reason for this missing piece was standing in his kitchen looking at him with beautiful soft eyes like he cared.
“Why are you here, Eddie?”
Now that the moment had come Eddie looked nervous, his fingers tapping his sides and his feet bouncing with energy. He opened and closed his mouth a few times seemingly trying to find a place to start. He pulled his hair in front of his face.
“I was hoping we could talk?” Eddie coughed.
“Talk? Now you wanna talk?”
Eddie winced. “Har – Steve. I’m sorry. I’m sorry for how I left. Running has always been my go-to move. The one and only time I didn’t I got swarmed by Demobats and almost died!” Eddie said, trying for a bit of humour. Steve didn’t laugh, just looked at Eddie, waiting.
“86 was supposed to be my year. I was going to graduate and get the hell out of Hawkins and do something with my life. Then Chrissy died in my trailer, and I was thrust into the Upside Down and I learned that monsters are real. When I went to distract the Demobats away from Dustin, I - I didn’t really expect to survive it. But I did, and I didn’t know what to do with that. I didn’t graduate, couldn’t find a job and despite what Hopper did, Hawkins wouldn’t let me forget what they thought of me, and I could never forget what they thought of me either.”
Eddie started pacing back and forth across the kitchen, running his hands through his hair. “I couldn’t just go back to how things were. I didn’t know how. And with how we left things, I didn’t think you would care. I just thought it would be best for everyone if I started over somewhere else. Clean slate.” Eddie said.
“Jesus Eddie, it wasn’t just that you left. I do understand why Hawkins wasn’t going to work for you anymore. It’s how you left, without a word. Without talking to me," Steve said and took a breath. "Without letting me explain.”
“I didn’t mean to hurt you. I didn’t think I could hurt you. After I kissed you and you-”
“Don’t. Please.” Steve cut him off, he couldn’t let Eddie say it.
“I really thought you liked me,” Eddie said with naked vulnerability on his face.
“I did,” Steve said without hesitation, “like you.”
At the time, he was still figuring things out and he had reacted badly when Eddie kissed him. He could admit now that what he had felt for Eddie then was so much more than just liking him. He had longed for him, wanted him, needed him. No one saw Steve the way Eddie had. It had been good and beautiful and fragile… And Steve ruined it like an ignorant child who didn’t know what he had been given. But then Eddie had gone and ruined it worse.
Eddie was looking at him in shock, eyes wide.
“You did? But…”
“I was scared, Eddie. I needed time. I went to the trailer park the next day and Wayne said you had left and weren’t coming back. That you didn’t want to see or hear from me. From any of us.”
Eddie winced. Opened his mouth to speak. Closed it. Shook his head. They had both made mistakes and he couldn’t deny that as hard as it was having Eddie around, Steve wanted to see him. He wanted them to be able to talk like they used to. He missed him.
“I’m sorry, too. I wasn’t ready and I – I didn’t know what to do… So I panicked and I hurt you. I’m so sorry, Eddie.”
Eddie was looking at him, eyes full of remorse or regret and Steve couldn’t take it anymore. He walked up to the other man, hesitated a little, and grabbed him in an embrace. Eddie stiffened briefly before collapsing into Steve’s arms.
“So, where does this leave us?” Steve asked into the mess of Eddie’s hair that was tickling his face.
“I’d like to be friends, if you think…” Eddie trailed off and pulled himself away from Steve so he could look at his face.
“Friends." Steve nodded. “Friends sounds good.”

i sling my bag over my shoulder and leave my car, waiting outside the large house with thrilling anticipation as i wait for matt to open the door. I see the fluff of his brown locks and a sweater similar to the one i’ve seen him wear before at school. i dont know why i get giddy when i see him, i dont know how we went to only speaking when madi was around too greeting each other whenever we see each other in the halls or cafe or even in our shared classes.
matt and his brothers were some of my closest friends now, after madi introduced me to them at a party, both of us got insanely drunk and made me call off crazy drinking ever since. all i remember from that night was the way matt took care of me while i was in a very vulnerable state and didn’t take advantage of me. i haven’t told anyone but madi about what happened to me when i was younger, and i’m glad she’s still taken her promise to heart, the only thing that telling her about my past shit did was make her and i closer.
i see matt in full view after he opens the door, “hey!” i say with a cheery expression despite how late it was for me.
“heyyy, thanks for coming by the way, even though you had a shift earlier.” he says sheepishly, before i left for work he messaged me begging to have another study session because he had more questions about the essay part of the exam. “oh hey lemme put your stuff in my room, just chill on the couch before the food gets here.” i pass him my backpack and laptop as he begins to walk down a hallway to make it to his room.
i move through the small entryway and become more apparent in his brothers view, “heyy y/n” nick says moving up to me for a hug, i take in his embrace.
“hi nick!!” i say excitedly. other than matt, ive hung out with nick a lot too, madi always has him over at her apartment, and even the three of us have made it a plan to meet up at our favourite bakery and talk for however long we want too a couple times a week. out of the little over a month i’ve know the triplets, nick has made a huge impact on me, and i felt safe around him, as well as chris and matt.
he lets go of me while i walk over to a slumped over chris on the couch, when he realised i was here he sits up on the edge of the couch. “sup chris,” i dap him up doing a little bro half hug with him.
“always nice to see you y/n,” he says as our arms unfold from the middle of us. i take a seat next to him with a comfortable amount of distance between us. matt returns not too long after i greet everyone. He sits down between chris and i and nick returns from the kitchen with a pepsi, root beer, bottled water and a lemonade, passing out everyone's drink knowing what each of us would ask for. matt and i give nick a thank you as he nods his head after.
nick stationed himself on the elongated part of the couch settling in with his fluffy blanket, he puts on a stranger thing episode and we all sit watching the tv. it only takes another five minutes of the episode for the doorbell to ring through the house. nick gets up immediately scurrying to the door with his fluffy blanket wrapped around him as he talks to the delivery man, thanking him and making small steps to see the rest of us. he comes back with two large bags of food planting them on the coffee table in front of all of us, before grabbing a tray of drinks after going back to the entrance.
“thank you for paying matty,” chris says, rubbing up again his brother with his lips pursed and now shoulder to shoulder with his older brother. i giggle at the sight, copying chris.
“mmmmh thanks mattyyyy” i say resting my head on the peak of his shoulder, pursing my lips as well and copying chris’ weird voice.
“you’re a fucking weirdo chris,” matt says in a disgusted voice flicking the other head that was very close to his face. “and you're welcome y/n.”
i laugh at chris’ overly dramatic reaction to what matt did to him. still giggling a bit at the sight of matt completely ignoring his brothers reaction, I say “just tell me how much i own you.”
“eh, don’t worry about it, it’s on me, plus save up for that new laptop you were talking about. i know how much you want it,” i blush slightly.
“aww thank you then,” i wrap my arms around him and squeeze him, he hands me the food that i asked for and retract back onto the couch.
“by the way, what time are we planning to stay up till? i told madi that i’ll tell her when i was heading home.” i saw looking at matt.
“well its kinda late so if you wanna stay in the guest room, im fine with that.” matt says, moving his head towards me, then breaking eye contact with the tv screen.
“im ay okay with that if you wanna stay over! plus you know your way around the house,” nick says giving his approval to matts idea of staying over.
“mhm im chill with it,” chris simply says.
“uhh yeah then, i'm down, thanks!”
we eat then say goodnight to nick and chris before we go to matt's room for some studying.
i lay down onto his bed as he walks over to his bathroom to change into some comfier clothes. while hes in there i start to think about our first study session when i found out matt had a crush on me. i thought it was very cute, but it made matt awkward on our last study night. i’m glad that he's eased up now, i just acted like i didn’t know anything and didn’t want to push on how he was feeling because I knew it would make his anxiety worse.
i come back to my senses seeing matt reappear from the bathroom door. we stayed on track for studying for an hour and a half before we eventually put on brooklyn 99 on in the background and talked.
“so, the retake is in a couple days, you think you’re ready?” i was hopeful he would be good by then because tonight felt very productive. I quizzed him on a couple of important ideas while he was playing with a baseball, throwing it up and down in the air. i learnt that he understands stuff better when he is doing something with his hands, it keeps him focused.
“hm, i’m not too sure, maybe another study sesh the day after tomorrow so by friday i’ll have all the stuff we went over fresh in my mind.” the baseball still gets thrown up and falls down in front of his face, with his hand waiting to catch it before it smacks him right on his nose. “thanks again for this,” i hear him catch it one more time before he moves his hand away from his face and looks at me just to the right of him. i'm hovering over him slightly, his eyes glow the brightest in the slight illumination from the lamp we always use when we study.
“yeah of course matt, you're my friend anyways.” our faces mirror each other, his eyes roam my faces while his hand holds the side of my face.
i toss my hair to the side of my head to lean down to kiss matt, he immediately returns the kiss enveloping my bottom lip with his. i moan into his mouth feeling him push me down and dominate me. one of his hands rests on my hip keeping me down as i pull him down with my legs letting him top me. most of his body is pressed down to mine, i lift my hips to give myself some kind of sensation i desperately crave for.
“fuck, i’m sorry are you okay with this?” matt says when he disconnects us.
i cup his chin bringing him a little closer, “i really fucking like you matt, please don’t stop.”
a smirk grows onto his face, “i really fucking like you too, you’re lucky i do.” he becomes more unserious pecking little kisses amoungst my face making a very loud “mwah” sound with each of he presses into my skin.
“matttt” i say through my sour looking face while he shows his affection.
“okay, okay, i’m done. but uh, how about we kiss again, didn’t get a good feel of it the first time.” he says with a knowing smirk on his face. i use my hand to weave through his brunette hair pulling him towards me again, we share a more passionate kiss, with knowing and love rather than lust.
it doesn’t take us long till things got more serious, his lips attach to my neck instantly sucking multiple hickeys into visible spots on my neck, moving down to my collar bone and eventually to the full and plump part of my boob. this is where my dream stopped last week, ive been trying to ignore it for the longest time but being in the moment now after thinking about it in my head makes it feel even more surreal.
his hand sneaks to the bottom of my fresh love shirt that i took from matt’s drawers when i found out i was sleeping here his fingers feel the hem of it. “is it alright if i take your shirt off?” he says with a quiet voice, almost afraid of what i’ll say.
i quickly nod in reply but that doesn’t seem good enough for him.
“words smart ass, i need words.” he says with a little bit of a condescending tone to his love tainted words.
“yes matt, you can take my shirt off too.” i say with a small giggle following after it.
he lifts the fabric to uncover the same white lace bra i was wearing while i slept over at his house by accident. “mh, i’ve been dreaming about this for a while ever since i saw you in it that morning,” he kisses the lace that travels to the small connecting piece of fabric between the two cups of my bra.
“and i know you heard what chris said to me that morning, yet you still acted like nothing was wrong.” he moves his hand to my upper back placing his hand onto my bra strap, “hey, can i take this off?”
“mhm,” my lips sealed trying to conceal my response to the amazing feeling of his hands on my body, he undoes the clip on my back with skill and purpose. the touch of his fingertips grant goosebumps to my skin in a very arousing manner.
he pulls the dainty clothing article off my arms and throws it to the floor benign absolutely amazed by my tits, they weren’t much but it seemed like matt was under a spell, he latched his lips just above my nipple to give me more hickeys, he sucks and soothes repeating this multiple times before he eventually dips down to my nipple, i feel the rush of arousal arching slightly off the bed.
i moan in response to the new sensation, i’m not exactly a virgin, but i haven’t done anything like this in a while, let alone at all for god sake. he massages the other boob, playing with the nipple with his hand the opposite of the one his mouth is very focused on.
he finally comes up for air after a little bit teasing, my thighs rub together and sits up to rip his shirt off to match my level of revealing skin, off goes his sweats as well leaving him in just his boxers, “matt, oh my god” i'm out of breath and very needy.
he continues a trail of kisses down to my clothes pussy, he looks up at me while holding the stretchy waistband of my pants, i give him a vigorous nod knowing what he was asking for.
he slides them completely off leaving me in just my underwear. he plants another sweet kids over my clothed heat which milks another desperate moan from me. “matt wait-“ he immediately comes up from my bottom half and lays beside me listening to me.
“hey we don’t have too if you don’t want too, i’m down if you just wanna go to bed in the other room, or even if you just wanna stay here and cuddle for the rest of the night.” he says before i can go ahead with what i was thinking.
“no, no i really want too it’s just, i haven’t really… done this before.” i tell him, he seems almost fully unaffected by my words.
“that’s fine, i’m here to make you feel good,” he places his hand nearing my core again, he rubs my panties over my clit moving down to feel the very apparent wet spot. “wow i’ve barely touched you and your so worked up,” his voice was sultry with a hint of a condescending tone.
“m-matt please” i struggle to say feeling the pressure he's putting down onto my throbbing clit.
“i’m gonna take these off now, okay?” he says with his fingers wrapped around the thin string of my thong that’s barely covers anything.
he slips them off admiring the sight in front of him, i almost get self conscious wanting to cover myself up with his blankets. his head dips and his hands pant onto my hips and one on my inner thigh. his tongue makes very sudden contact with my clit, he sucks and swirls his tongue around it, feeling the very heavy pressure i arch my back slighting leaning forward into his face.
his finger creeps and teases my hole before he fully plunged it into me. i heavy moan escapes my lips, “quiet now princess, can’t let nick or chris hear you.”
he continues his movements stimulating both my clit and hole at the same time, “more, please” i say with a pleading tone. he removes his finger from inside of me and replaces it with his tongue and mouth. he absolutely devoured my pussy giving me as much pleasure as he could, his mouth moving back to my clip and he slid his finger back into me moving it at a moderate pace.
i don’t try very hard to conceal my very loud moans, as soon as matt enters a second finger into my dripping cunt, i release with a pornographic moan, squeezing his head between my legs. “holy shit matt,” he licks up all of my hot cum and comes back up to kiss me.
“mmh you did so well for me, you ready for me now?” i say a needy yes while he goes back to sit back on the his headboard. he removes his boxers with such haste letting his cock spring out with a bead of pre-cum leaking out. “i wanna watch you ride me, you control the pace and how deep you wanna go.” he whispers into my ear.
he lifts me on top of him, kissing him passionately while i grind down onto his twitching cock. he lets out a guttered groan “okay, let’s do this cause i could bust just from looking at you.”
he lines himself up and holds my hips while i sink down onto him. his so thick and long, i feel him in ever existing crevasse in my cunt. “fuck yes” i say letting out a heavy breath.
“holy shit you’re so tight-“ he says between his monas and hard breathes. i begin to move myself up and down slowly, whatever pain that came at first quickly moved to pleasure as i speed up my movements.
my tits bounce every time i move up or down, my movements are set at a constant pace, “matt, i think- i think i’m gonna cum.” i say, feeling his dick twitch in my pussy again.
“come for me baby, give it to me,” he says, taking me by my love handles and moving me up and down a little faster. i came hearing his words letting out a couple of breathy moans, he follows soon after me. i feel his thick long ropes of cum fill me up and come back down dripping onto his cock.
matt does a couple of slower pumps in and out of me to ride both of us through our highs. he picks me up as if i weigh nothing and puts me down beside him laying down onto the bed.
he goes into the bathroom to retrieve a small cloth and comes back to wipe me down. he does a couple of strips to pick up as much extra cum he could. i feel him hit my clit and i whimper loudly, “oh god, i’m sorry, i know your still sensitive.” once he’s finished he goes into the bathroom and cleans himself up.
fishing his boxers from the ground he slides them on and grabs my underwear and a large t-shirt from his closet. he hops onto the bed putting on my underwear and pulling me up to put on the shirt.
“mh thank you,” i say tired and groggy.
he plants a kiss onto my forehead “anything for you smart ass.”
he comes under the covers and wraps his arms around me, intertwining our legs. we sleep peacefully until the morning
