Thoughts on the “Look my Way” music video? For context if you don’t know, this is a fan song that’s just animated. Paranoid DJ had written this song awhile back, though Viv did take out some lyrics and switch them up a bit. What I personally don’t like is that there’s a line in the original where Stolas mentions the “impish play thing” line, as well as acknowledges that Octavia is hurting, and Viv cut that out. The song itself also doesn’t help for the show narratively really regarding the ship of Stolitz.
OMYGOD Okay so much to talk about here. It's a BEAUTIFUL song, amazing song, and I even loved the original of it. The animation for this AMV is breathtaking, everyone did an AMAZING job on it. This is what Helluva Boss songs should sound like. I was annoyed with that one scene, albeit very pretty where Stolas and Blitz have a string attached to the pinky finger, which is an indication of soulmates. This bothers me because a soulmate is either A. someone you have been reincarnated with over the years to love or B. Someone you click with- someone who completes you. You meet in every lifetime or they are the perfect person for you. This does not fit Stolas X Blitz AT ALL. They are not perfect for each other, they are complete opposites and the entire appeal and beauty of their relationship was the fact that they were fuckbuddies! They weren't even friends! They were tied up in manipulations, classism, and power imbalances. Their relationship required a lot of growth, a lot of work, and a LOT of learning on what love actually was, how to maintain it, and how to right their wrongs like-They needed to actively explore and learn what love means. They needed to find a real connection that would actually give them chemistry. Being soulmates is a complete cop-out. (Soulmates don't rely on reincarnation, but some do- and reincarnation is not a thing for demons???) You could say I'm overthinking it and being nitpicky with this visual, but this is exactly what it is! That is a soulmate string!!! He even says "I'll grant you this mercy, this bind on our souls-" LIKE BRUH wHAT !!! I'm so mad about what their relationship has become. They were toxic but not doomed. Now they're nothing Anyway..... still very beautiful and pretty

I have friends who actually know this guy and work closely with him. Apparently, Viv was the one who asked to change the lyrics of the song because it didn't "fit her story"???????? The lyrics changed: OG: "Come now, my little impish plaything, we both made our choice" Viv: "But dearest, I know better now I must give you this choice" It makes sense why she would want this changed since this song is about Stolas actually finally being in love. But it's still very sus because we still have not addressed Stolas's classism problem that seems to fluctuate episode to episode. OG: "Is this how she'd feel? Abandoned, all alone and left to fend For herself, for some semblance of happiness that doesn't have to end?" Viv: "Is this what you feel? Scorned by a realm that cannot comprehend, What you are, so I'll grant you this mercy this bind- on our souls needs to end" Again I can understand this change because we are going off-topic with Octavia here. However, I do find these changes very suspicious, especially if she wanted the song to better "fit her story". Because these circumstances are things that I have accused Viv of retconning before. Where Stolas wasn't actually in love with Blitz from the start and only saw him as a shiny toy, an "impish little plaything". Where Stolas was actually shady in cheating on his wife and not being there for his daughter nor really understanding her. "Home doesn't feel like home anymore. You ruined it." I can understand in the context of the song why these lines would be removed, but in the context of the overall story, I'm very suspicious of it, because those are very important contexts that people try to insist are "just people's headcanons" when they literally aren't. This could be considered active proof of Vivziepop retconning her story, but I will go with the latter and stick to my logical explanations for why the lyrics were changed- gonna try to have some faith here.

Apparently, Cherri and Angel's AMV Addict was also a fan song. In THAT video, this is the description. Fully acknowledging it was a fan song, and giving clear credit to the person who made the song.

NO acknowledging this is a fan-made song. NO credit for Paranoid DJ. No thank you, no praise for the original, no links to the original song- He is at least in the credits, but not the description! This is insanely shady! I don't know if this was just a mistake or not, but this is really uncool. Again, he's at least in the ending credits, but... the description would make it more obvious. Vivziepop has a history of not crediting people for their work- I don't know if she was the one who made this mistake nor not.... this is not the worst it could have been, but at the very least whoever runs the youtube should fix the description out of respect.

Buddy Daddies & “Silent Night”

Happy holidays and Merry Christmas!
I’ve been busy working on other projects, so no time to write a fic for Christmas. However, I still wanted to do something, and thinking about the work I do outside of here, this is what I came up with. So, to celebrate the season, and the anniversary of Miri falling into the lives of Kazuki and Rei, I present a brief history of “Silent Night” and its relevance/connections to Buddy Daddies!

Brief History:
"Silent Night" was first performed in 1818 at the St. Nicholas Church in Oberndorf bei Salzburg, Austria. The lyrics were written by Father Joseph Mohr, which were originally adapted from a poem he had written two years previously, while the melody was composed by Franz Gruber. The song was originally written in German for two voices and an accompanying guitar, though an organ accompaniment was composed several years later (presumably along with an arrangement for a choir since it is traditionally performed in Austria during Christmas Eve Mass).
In Buddy Daddies, Miri is heard singing the first of six verses, which is probably the most well-known verse. When translated to English (first in 1858), and what I gather as the most common/used translation, or the one I am most familiar, only three verses are translated (verses 1, 6, and 2, in that order). Since its original performance/publication, "Silent Night" has been translated into over 300 languages and dialects.

Connections to Buddy Daddies:
(Just to be upfront, this is more my interpretation. I also want to acknowledge that there are a lot of religious elements in this song, which I do not feel I can adequately address/discuss. Though I may be wrong, I also don't think the religious elements are really at play in Buddy Daddies)
First things first, it is more than a little ironic how the first time "Silent Night" is heard in Buddy Daddies, or when Miri enters the hotel in ep. 1, an instrumental version is heard in the background, and in ep. 12 during Miri's Christmas recital (also kind of in ep. 11 when Miri is practicing), a gunfight precedes or succeeds this song.
That being said, it works since those moments then act like the calm before or after the storm. While there will always be some craziness or hecticness in raising a four/five year old, the moments that Kazuki and Rei spend with Miri, especially after these fights, act as moments of comfort or reassurance that their family is all together and they have each other.
The final line we hear Miri sing, and of the first verse, "Sleep in heavenly peace," arguably represents Kazuki and Rei's wish for Miri: that she is safe, has nothing to truly worry about, and knows she is loved. Their drive and desire to let Miri sleep soundly at the end of every night is what causes them to choose their family over the organization and to fight back knowing that the organization disapproves of such "attachments" or the idea of Rei, Kazuki, and Miri being a family. While this scene is not connected to one of the times "Silent Night" is heard in Buddy Daddies, this comfort of having each other and being able to rest easy because of this feeling is also clearly seen in the ep. 3 after credits scene. The events of ep. 3 is the first time Kazuki, Rei, and Miri all seem to acknowledge that they are a family and will be staying by each other's side in the long run, which may then be why Rei quickly falls asleep as they are all relatively on the same page about their relationships to one another (and everyone he loves, whether or not he fully processes this yet, is safe next to him).
In having Miri sing this song at the end of ep. 12, the lines "All is calm, all is bright" also stand out because that is how Kazuki and Rei are seeing their future now. They've done everything in their power to walk away from the organization for good, and they did it without losing their lives. Now, their sole mission is to look after Miri and raise their daughter to be the best person she can be. The two walking into Miri's concert and standing in the back (not just because they were late, but because of their injuries) may give them some time for reflection about what they did that day and how that provided them the opportunity to successfully go after the future they've dreamed of.
Not directly related to the song, but during my research, I also found that another big accomplishment for lyricist Joseph Mohr was his role in building the first school in one village and setting up a fund that would help to cover the cost of education so that children from poorer families could still attend/be educated. His work as a priest could be interpreted as him having an affinity for providing for or working to better the lives of children. Considering how much Kazuki and Rei do to look after Miri's happiness and well-being, the personal life of the lyricist of "Silent Night" then adds some more depth into this song being featured throughout Buddy Daddies given Mohr's connections to looking after and taking into consideration the needs of growing children.

I just saw the movie and I was not impressed. The songs could've been better though. Especially the VILLAIN SONG.
The movie isn't the worst, but it's not the best either. It's just mediocre. It's fine.
Compared to the movies it references though (oh boy do they reference em'), it's just shows how vague and muddled the movie is.
I think it needed another rewrite or two, because it has the pieces there, they just need to be better connected.
I'll make a separate post about my thoughts on the movie.
Anyway, I think that with the context of the scene before Magnifico starts his villain song that " All That I've Done For You", would've fit much better. Especially with how Magnifico feels about the kingdom, his subjects questioning him, and could've given, us the audience, a little more understanding of how his backstory has influenced his behaviors.
This would have also been a nod to how in Encanto, where Alma held on too tight in fear of losing her home again. Except, instead of realizing he's gone too far or that his actions are hurting the people he swore to protect, he doubles down, he gets angry, he doesn't understand why no one else understands the threat to the kingdom. He then sees everyone questioning him as a betrayal to all he's ever done for them. They're traitors and will be treated as such.
If the story was better written then everything Magnifico chooses to do would be direct responses to trauma. He can still be the villain, but we should watch it happen. Like a fall arc.
The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
He's probably very paranoid of another threat that could destroy his home again. So what did he do when he lost everything? He researched, studied and practiced magic so he could become strong. So he would never lose again.
Then he founded Rosas. Why? So anyone in need of a home would be safe, protected and provided for.
Then he starts granting wishes for the people and this is what he becomes known for. But... Why? Idk. The movie isn't really good at giving a answer that isn't vague.
Why does he not grant all of them? Fear.
He's afraid, he's paranoid of the butterfly effect. He looks for every possible outcome for the wishes he considers granting and begins thinking of every worse case scenario, unable to see the good.
I feel like there should be a magic system of some kind, rules to how his magic works, maybe there are limits or consequences of wish magic.
Like equivalent exchange or his powers draw energy from his life force and uses the wishes energy? Magic? To keep himself alive?
Or if Disney wanted him to be evil from the start and really have him ham it up. Maybe use this song from Elena of Avalor.

Why "Under the Tree" is actually a RivaMika song

This song is all the rave right now. And it's actually a good one that has Linkin Park vibes. But being a RivaMika shipper, I couldn't help but delve deeper to analyze the lyrics.
And what I found is interesting.

Same color, on the same side (their left), and in the same situation where the Ackerman is looking at their host. It seems the blue butterfly is linked to the multiple timelines in the story. Could it be that Levi also has the butterfly since he is the only one who could save Mikasa in every timeline she creates whenever she chases after Eren? Like he already did in the manga (main) and Junior High timelines?

Levi called out to Mikasa, and as a result, did not mess up the manga (main) timeline. Or Levi calling her back to reality messed up her newly made cabin timeline. Both to save her and to end the war.

Besides, who are the people who experienced the same kind of scars? Both physically and emotionally? Levi and Mikasa. Therefore, they are the ones who are suited to heal each other, especially when the war is over.

To be honest, I love both the original version and this cover from MSP. The cover just holds double the meaning. It is both part of TinnGun’s story – their first meeting, their beginning, the reason why Tinn fell for Gun and why they fit together now – and PuenTalay's story in their own universe. It connects these two universes too, and that is why I’m so fond of it. Also, Gemini and Fourth make this song sound even softer than it already is. (My other favorites from MSP ost are Healing, Let Me Tell You, and the cover of Just Being Friendly, tho the whole soundtrack is just phenomenal.)
II. ใครคลั่งรักกว่ากัน (Madly in Love) - Jimmy Jitaraphol and Sea Tawinan Our Skyy 2 x Vice Versa OST

This song is so very PuenTalay but also so JimmySea. It’s extremely soft, romantic, a little playful, cute, and just loving all the way around. It compliments both of their voices and styles, and just makes me super happy. The lyrics are nice too. My favorite part is the one where Jimmy changes the way he sounds in the chorus (Idk what to call it sorry). It’s towards the end of the song. It’s just super cool somehow and very addicting.
III. คลาด (Over the Moon) - Khaotung Thanawat The Eclipse OST

Absolutely obsessed with this song. One of the best theme songs a BL has ever had, hands down. Truly lived up to the hype I got from hearing this song in the mock up trailer. I love Khaotung’s voice, the visuals in the MV, the lyrics, the instrumental. Overall just a perfect song for me specifically. (To be fair, The Eclipse has had two of my favorite soundtracks with this and their Our Skyy 2 song. Instant hits, no question.)
IV. ก่อน - Pchy Dew The Movie OST

I don’t think any other piece of media has ever made me feel the way Dew The Movie does. It was, and still is, simply everything to me. And this song. This song. I cannot put into words how perfect, how wonderful, how special this song is. I cry every time I hear it because it’s just so fully packed with all these feelings I cannot describe. I love it. I love it so much. And for the love of god, if you haven’t watched this movie, go do it right now. 
V. ร้อยล้านวิว (Million views) - Stamp Last Twilight Pilot Trailer

I don’t know how well this song fits the criteria for this game but I found this lovely thing bc of the Last Twilight trailer and now I cannot get rid of it. It’s been on my playlist ever since this trailer dropped in November and not a day goes by that I don’t listen to it. It’s just so good and always brings me back to these moments. I keep hoping they would keep this song in the show itself or that they will get an OST that sounds similar, instrumental and lyrical wise. Bc my god did this song hit again once I stopped being lazy and looked up a translation for the lyrics. Now I’m crying even more bc of it thanks.
Bonus: พระเอกจำลอง by Getsunova from the Theory of Love OST. One of my eternal favorites. This song just is the show.  Special mentions: These are western songs so I didn’t want to include them to the list itself but I have to mention that Blueming brought me back to sød ven’s music bc they used the song hollow for the show (the beach scenes to be specific). I am forever grateful. Also, I love the songs both Not Me and Never Let Me Go used in their soundtracks, specifically this one and this one (both are instrumental as these shows have made me appreciate instrumentals a lot more too).

“Hey Marianne, how did the fitting go?” Cillian greeted her with a kiss on the cheek backstage.
“Great! They showed me a few sketches already.”
He smiled pleased, everything seemed to be working fine.
“That’s good, anything you would like to change?” She immediately shook her head.
“Not a single thing, I love it!”
Cillian guided her through the hall. “I know this is all new to you, but please feel free to speak your mind, you’re part of this project.”
Marianne thanked him for his kindness, Cillian was making her feel so comfortable about everything, he introduced her to part of the staff they crossed paths with, he seemed to know everyone and showed her around the theater.
“Now how about we get on with it? Would you like to discuss something about the play?”
“Yes… how is it possible that Adria’s brother holds so much power, to the point of blocking every single door for her? The lawyer, the doctor and nurses taking care of her parents, the judge…”
“There’s this little lucky strike on his side when she’s away, is interesting how these series of events happens and he goes back and starts manipulating their father to get the last call on the properties and the legal rights to everything.”
“And there’s not a single scene with him?” She bit her lower lip, thinking about it.
“Not physically, he’s still in the story but all we know about him is what we see through Adria’s eyes. And the hints from the narrator.”
“There you are!” Heidi appeared with a sound tech. “Hello! Can we try these?” She waved off a little box connected to a long wire. She instructed Marianne to hold the tip against her cheek and helped her to place it around her ear, then she walked around her and adjusted the clip of the microphone on her jeans, Marianne winced at the unfamiliarity.
“That’s how we break the ice.” Cillian joked, while she blushed.
Heidi looked at Marianne, realizing of something important. “Sorry! I’m so used to this, I do it with my eyes closed.” She smiled, helping Marianne feel at ease.
She smiled back. “I’ve to learn a lot of things, right?”
“We just want to try it, once you’ve the wardrobe you’ll have the wire under your clothes.”
“Lights!” The tech shouted and the theater got dark, except from one bright light that was directed straight to Marianne. She blinked away, it was hard to see anything.
“This is going to be your spot for the opening scene.” Cillian showed her, walking to the corner, the bright light following her every move. “Can we start with the first line?”
“I will go up there,” Heidi pointed at one of the seats, “to make sure the sound works. I always get so excited on soundcheck days!”
Everything was still so surreal to Marianne, she saw Heidi walking down the stairs on the side of the stage and started giving instructions, unlike her, Heidi knew what she was doing. The lights started to change and now two were following her.
“Trying out light 1.” The tech called through the speakers.
As Marianne went on to read the first part of the script, Cillian corrected her posture, asked her to adjust her volume and showed her to repeat the lines with a pencil in her mouth.
“Be careful with your breathing, if you push out the air too hard, the audience will hear this.” He pointed out as he blew to the microphone. “Let it out slowly in three counts, or your next line will come out forced and you will be out of breath soon.”
She listened intently and tried to memorize all the instructions and guidance he was providing, he was extremely patient and spoke to her softly, but it was a lot of information to take in.
Marianne forced herself to focus on her breathing, a technique she learned that really helped her to stay calm in moments where a panic attack was around the corner, she was doing her best to push away those kind of thoughts.
“I’ll tell you what, let’s take this off, we don’t have to worry about it yet.” He pointed at the small device in Marianne’s ear and motioned her to take off the box from her jeans. Leaving them over the bar, he walked back towards her. “Let’s try to tell the story instead of just reading lines, play with your voice. Let me feel the emotion you reached when you broke the mirror.”
And she did as he suggested. But Marianne still felt a little bit out of place.
“Look at the audience, I think a small pause there will add a nice touch, let them wonder the next move, will Adria give up? Will she let her brother win?” His voice was deep, but soft like velvet, and he seemed to move his hands in sync perfectly.
“Sorry I forgot the line.” Marianne looked at Cillian worried, covering her face. With a frustrated groan, she bent down to pick up the script. Nerves started to kick in.
“Don’t stop, no matter what happens you have to keep going.” Heidi told her walking on stage.
They had been working for hours, the constant light changing irritated her eyes, she felt like she needed to pick up on everything they were instructing her to do, her volume, her spot, the way her feet moved, they asked her to speak from her diaphragm… she was too fast or too slow, she was late on her counts, she was looking at the floor…
“I’ll let you go to check the audition schedule. Try to practice with the pencil in your mouth, it helps you to articulate the words properly.” Heidi told her, taking her bag. “See you tomorrow.”
“But is still early!” Cillian tried to stop her.
“Promised my kiddo to shop new soccer gear.”
Cillian crossed his arms against his chest. “I thought he wanted to be a teacher.”
“When he was six, now he’s a big boy.”
“Thanks Heidi.”
As she waved goodbye, Marianne looked around, feeling so small on stage.
“Don’t let this scare you.” He said softly, she was so transparent, it was almost as if he could read her feelings.
“I feel so… small?” She took a seat on one of the desk chairs, it was only placed on stage to mark the place of one of the tables they would use for the play. “Like this is the last place I should be…”
Cillian recognized the worry in her eyes, she had a lot of reasons to be scared about, English wasn’t her first language, theater wasn’t something she was familiar with, they had only weeks until kick off…
“Let’s take a break.” He proposed with a smile.
Because he also knew the last thing Marianne needed right now, was more pressure.
“But I have a lot of things to learn and”
“Why are you so worried? You will learn everything you need, but not today, nor tomorrow.”
Marianne shuddered. “How can you be this calm? I feel like I have the time against me.”
Walking out of the Olympia Theater, a beautiful day welcomed them as the pair walked down the street.
“This is new.” Cillian pointed at the small but cozy café across the street. “And I’m always nervous about a new project by the way, excited, but nervous.”
“You don’t look nervous.” Marianne pointed out right before a chirpy redhead smiled at them.
“Hello sweethearts, welcome to Alex’s nook, make yourself at home, we’ve got books if you want to read.”
“I think you need to relax a little Marianne, what would you like to drink?”
Looking at the menu, she didn’t want to point out list of things she needed to do, but she really needed to learn the script, work on her warm-up exercises that Cillian already showed her and a million other things… “A flat white, please, this is a lovely place.”
“Oh! Thank you so much, we just moved in to the neighborhood about two months ago.”
“I love everything about this, the music, the vibe, the name is so fitting.” Marianne pointed out looking around.
“Aww bless you! I love it so much, well what can I say if I’m the one behind it, right? Oh, and Alex is not my name, but that’s a story for another day…” She was looking for something in her apron, then she looked at Cillian. “What would you like?”
“A tea, please.”
“We got green, cinnamon with apple, black… oh, here it is.” She giggled and retrieved the pen from above her ear. “
“Black tea please.”
“You guys are new around too.” She asked them politely. She noticed how the pair moved in complete sync. “How did you two meet, lovebirds?”
Mortified, Marianne shook her head. “We’re not a couple.”
But now, the chirpy redhead was the mortified and embarrassed one. “I’m sorry I shouldn’t have assumed…” She blushed and apologized one more time.
“We are literally new, starting a new project at the Olympia Theater.”
Her whole face seemed to smile, if that was possible. She was genuinely happy. “Enda was one of my first clients! I guess you should get the VIP client card then.”
“VIP?” Marianne asked confused.
“Yes! The more you visit my café the more freebies you get! I’m still trying to figure out a system, but since you’ll be working so close, I hope you guys come often.”
“We will, thanks.” Cillian thanked her paying for their order, he refused to accept Marianne split the bill.
“She’s so nice and kind, I wish I could have her confidence.”
Cillian looked at her intently. Without even noticing, Marianne had so much of Adria’s character, and that made it all even more scary.
“What makes you think you don’t own those qualities?” He asked her softly from across the table. “I can bet you anything, you have a lot more you don’t even know.”
The way he said it, made Marianne think he could be right. Even if it was for a few seconds.
“But you barely know me.”
“It’s the little things that count the most, Marianne.” Cillian explained as the waiter brought them their drinks. “When we arrived, you saw the delivery guy carrying all of those coffees, and you rushed to open the door for him, I was distracted, I didn’t noticed it at first.”
She seemed to think about it, she did that because she wanted to make it easier for that man to get out.
“All of this goodness is already inside you, you’re tender, noticeable, but you’re also a bomb about to explode on stage.”
“I’ve been dreaming about this particular scene.” She couldn’t help but smile. “When Adria walks to the back of the room, the music stops as the lights go down, then she turns slightly to look at the audience over her shoulder, and smiles. That’s all I see, over and over.”
Cillian felt everything inside him tingle in anticipation.
“You’re what we call in theater a showstopper… and I can see is already burning you alive.”

On Sunday morning, Marianne rushed inside the theater, finding it empty. The venue was majestic, one look around was enough to take your breath away.
The red and gold decorations really stood out, the seats, lights, the different levels, the chandeliers added a glamorous effect, which was almost ridiculous, because the theater really held life by itself.
Surrounded by the curtains and the incredible energy the place exuded, Marianne closed her eyes for a moment, trying to imagine how it would look full of people, the lights down. She had been practicing a lot that morning in front of the mirror.
Despite all of her fears and internal battles with herself, taking this chance was all she wanted now.
“Sorry I’m late, I was caught up at home.” Cillian explained as he rushed to the stage. His arms welcomed her in a warm embrace.
“Is alright. Let me just get my script real quick.” Marianne asked walking towards her bag.
But Cillian had other ideas. “You won’t need that today, don’t worry.”
She looked at him confused. How would the do the rehearsal then?
Finding her quizzed face, he smiled, she followed instructions, tried to anticipate to what was expected, he realized.
“I want to start working with something that’s fundamental in theater.” He pushed up the sleeves of his jumper. “Sometimes things can go wrong when you’re on stage, and that’s alright too, a light can go down, someone could stand up from the seat, the wardrobe, someone might forget their lines… the most important thing is you having a solid base to improvise.” He leaned against the high bar and spoke softly, finding a pair of eyes full of expectation, hungry to learn.
“I thought you wanted me to follow the script?”
“You like numbers, right? From what you’ve told me… so yeah you will be following the script 98% of the time, the other 2% I need you to be ready to jump in and keep the dialogue going.” But panic was written all over her face. “Don’t worry, the audience won’t know there was a mistake unless someone tells them,” he the smiled at her, wanting to push her nerves away, “if you don’t tell them, I won’t either.”
That made her chuckle, Marianne started to feel how he could ease the tension so easily.
“So if you’re ready now, tell me a story, whatever you feel up to, I won’t know if you’re lying or not.”
“A story?” Marianne asked perplexed.
Cillian nodded, his hand motioning for her to get closer. “First thing that crosses your mind. Someone who helped you, someone who made your life miserable… You can either act on it, or just tell me as if in a casual chat.”
Taking a deep breath, Marianne felt her palms sweating.
I still don't know what I was looking for
And my time was running wild

Every time I thought I'd got it made
It seemed the taste was not so sweet
“Three girls are at a café, there’s people around them, a high bar with a long table for costumers who are alone, some people are working, sipping on their beverages or chatting. There’s a guy behind them minding his own business.” She looked in the seats direction as she heard a noise.
“Don’t pay attention to that, is just noise, theaters are made of echoes, keep going, what happens with this guy? Let’s call him Adam.” His eyes were looking at her intently.
“Adam is working on his laptop, when he unintentionally listens to what Diane, Gina and Kacey are talking.”
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes
Turn and face the stranger
He noticed the way her gaze changed as she used a different voice. “Kacey’s voice got louder as she mentioned how she didn’t like Julia’s new hairstyle, ‘it doesn’t fit her, she just wants people complimenting her.’ But Gina had something else to add, ‘Last week my cousin asked me her number, she had been trying to seduce him for so long, she just wants him because of his father’s business’ and of course, Diane couldn’t keep her mouth shut ‘I didn’t like her hair either, I’m sure she knew I was going to ask for it and she had to go first and months ago she told me she wasn’t interested in your cousin but I didn’t believe her’. Gina shook her head ‘She called this morning to see if I wanted to go with her for breakfast after the gym, she just wanted to brag about something.’”
Just gonna have to be a different one
Time may change me
But I can't trace time
Cillian saw her moving her hands.
“Kacey rolled her eyes, ‘She’s so fake I can’t stand her!’ Adam was intrigued by this Julia and the horrible person she seemed to be. But soon all his questions were answered as another woman joined the group, the conversation immediately changed. ‘I’m so happy to see you all! Diane, I got you the necklace with the initials you couldn’t find.’ Diane’s mouth flew open, she couldn’t believe it. ‘Julia, where did you get it?’ Her arms wrapped around the other girl. ‘A friend of a friend knows the owner of the brand.’ She explained with a smile. ‘You didn’t answer when I called you’ Kacey folded her arms in front of her chest. Julia placed a hand gently on her arm, ‘I talked to my Dad about your boyfriend’s resume, he doesn’t have an open position in his company in his field but he’s asking Human Resources to think about him as soon as they get something. I’ve to go back to the children’s foundation, we got new games and books for them, and we want to take them to the zoo so I’ve been working really late, but we’re celebrating my mum’s birthday next week I’d love to see you girls there… it will be an intimate dinner at home, see you soon! Gina, by the way that blue color suits you so well.’ And with that, Adam saw her leave a bill on the table even though she politely declined the waiter offering her something.”
Marianne stopped walking, and looked straight at Cillian in the eyes., but she couldn’t hold his gaze, so she looked at the empty seats of the theater instead.
“Adam didn’t know this Julia, but he did know that all of her “friends” were saying about her, it wasn’t the truth, it was only a reflection of what those girls saw in her that they didn’t have, what they wanted.”
“What happened to Adam?” Cillian asked, walking towards Marianne.
Her eyes were filled with tears when she looked back at him.
“He walked out of the café moments later, calling Julia, he asked her to be careful as he heard the girls talking shit again about her once she walked out.”
Sitting on the edge of the stage, Marianne saw him mirroring her.
“What about them?”
Taking a deep breath, looked up to the ceiling. Frustration building up.
“She finally opened her eyes and saw something that had always been there, but she refused to see, she decided to keep going without that kind of friendship.”
Cillian took his time to process her words, she exuded emotion through every pore.
Even though Marianne turned around her face away from him, he was able to see a tear rolling down her cheek.
Strange fascination, fascinating me
Changes are taking the pace I'm going through
“Sorry if I pulled a sensitive wound.” Cillian apologized rubbing his jaw. “Can I give you a hug?”
He was even more surprised as the words left his mouth, but when he saw Marianne nodding, and moving towards him, he knew it was the right thing to do.
“Pain can be something beautiful too, when you turn it upside down.” Marianne whispered.
Perhaps deep down it was Cillian who needed that hug the most.

The Hunger Games, The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes SPOILERS (BOOKS AND MOVIES)
ok so I'm sure that by now everyone has seen the posts about how brilliantly Suzanne Collins wove her prequel into the story.
So this will also be such a post. Not a particularly detailed one but hey xD
Anyway - AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH
I adore how before Lucy Gray disappears, she tells Snow - I'm going to look for katniss. And then 64 years later, Katniss Everdeen wins the 74th Hunger Games with the meadow song, with a Mockingjay token and by cleverly playing the system (even if it wasn't her intention).
Of course, this reminds Snow of how he played the system in Lucy Gray's favour, he remembers that song from 12 and the Mockingjays that sang after Lucy Gray disappeared.
The parallels are brilliant! And every time that I think about them, I'm once again reminded just how much and why Coriolanus Snow despised Katniss. Not only was she a symbol of rebellion, but she also carried symbols from a past that he wanted to erase. And sure, no one else alive that can hurt him in the capital remembers, but what if someone digs just a little deeper, notices and checks something that appears to be just a little off?
And with so many coincidences surrounding Katniss, is it really a wonder that he assumed that a ghost of his former lover was coming to haunt him from the grave?
There are definitely more parallels out there but I'm currently too tired to think of them xD.
God, I love the world of the Hunger Games. It's so brilliantly written with wonderfully written characters that make me want to continue peeling back their layers just to see what makes them tick. Suzanne Collins truly wrote a masterpiece.
Also I did really enjoy the new movie. I ended up watching it in a language that isn't my native language and was pleased to have understood the majority of what was said xD. The fact that I had read the book previously definitely helped! XD
The sound track was to die for though! Everyone's singing was beautiful. Rachel Zegler's voice really haunted some scenes and gave me chills on more than one occasion. Hearing Can't Catch Me Now during the end credits was great. I've seen some people say that it really explained what happened to Lucy Gray after she disappeared and yeah, I can see where they are coming from. I just really liked how the lyrics tie the end of the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes with what happens in the Hunger Games. Olivia Rodrigo did a brilliant job with the lyrics.
Ok so this rambling has turned into a review. 😅
Anyway, my only complaint is that we did not see a lot of the Covey in the movie and that the connection between Katniss' dad and the Covey wasn't hinted at.
Having said that, the fact that Katniss' dad taught her those songs and how to hunt wasn't something that was mentioned in the Hunger Games movies (from what I remember of them) so it makes sense that that was left out.
Overall, the movie was amazing. Would recommend - 9/10.
The books are of course a very steady 9.5/10 for me xD.
At some point I'll probably need to make a post about the actors that played Sejanus and Dr. Gaul. They were fantastic! Having said that, the whole cast was really well cast and everyone played their role really well. I was very satisfied with the casting and with everyone's performance.

- amazing vocals, love the tune and lyrics. It’s so full of emotion and I feel like I’m watching everything happen in slow motion like in a fight scene from a movie? If that makes sense? It’s so haunting and beautiful. I’m currently reading no country for old men and a lot of the lyrics feel so applicable to the book. Really amazing song I feel changed after listening to it, thank you so much for sharing this one
Cheer up Charlie
- I really enjoyed this song!! The lyrics were so emotional and there was so much hurt in the words and in their voice, like they’re carrying a lot of sadness and grief for the person being written about about. I also loved the guitar in this song, amazing riffs <3
Hungry ghost
- Off the bat the vocals are beautiful, I knew I’d enjoy this song which I did! Very relatable lyrics and such a beautiful way of expressing things I struggled with voicing in the past. A song that makes me feel less alone and brings comfort to a younger self

- That fact about the pre-recorded lyric he can no longer sing made me appreciate this song so much more, it feels really special to be able to listen to something that feels so personal. Both of little stars songs have been a beautiful experience so thank you for sharing it with me
Like green Jheri curl
- Fuck this song was so sad to listen to. “Did I do something wrong?” Is such a gut punch. Knowing there’s so many kids out there who were so alienated and made to feel like they weren’t being themselves the right way is so upsetting and conveyed so well in this song. ALSO the drumming in the last few seconds was just really enjoyable and a solid ending to an amazing track
WTF is sleep
- The lyrics “it’s too easy to be hard on yourself” and “finding comfort in feeling like hell” just really hit deep down, and I absolutely understand why those are some of the lines you also mentioned as they are something very relatable. Also the lyric “set no alarm cause I am totally guaranteed to wake to my chest beating miles ahead of me” is something I deal with on the regular with my anxiety and I’ve never had someone describe it in such an accurate way before. Fantastic song I really loved this one

- dodie has always been such an amazing artist and shaped so much of my teenage years. This song has always been such an emotional one and filled with relevant lyrics. I’ve always loved “I’ll take what I can get, cause I’m too damp for a spark”, because a lot of my first relationships definitely felt like I was just happy to be liked by someone despite how uninteresting I am. That’s changed a lot now but it still is something my 16 year old self can connect to
Institutionalized
- LOVED this song holy fuck. Another song that I really get. The entire verse about his mum and the drug accusations were really something I connect with and something I’m still coming to terms with and still hold resentment over as I had a lot of instances while living at home where conversations similar to this happened frequently. Really good song and the anger in his voice and the buildup before the chorus each time just really scratched an itch in my brain. Also from reading your comment under the song, I hope you’re doing okay in the residential and getting the support you need <3
People li: the reckoning
- The feeling this song evoked in me bro. like someone singing about these experiences is so amazing and the way it’s sung is just. so incredibly good. the lyrics “everything is real but it’s also just as fake. From your daughters birthday party to your grandmothers wake” is something that I deal with every single day with depersonalisation, and even experiencing my own grandmas funeral while suffering from depersonalisation just made it feel very personal and just the whole song was just a really good one to listen to and so well written
I spent the winter writing songs about getting better
- God man this one was a lot. “Making  me in your image with the parts that people hate” was a big fucking YEA you get it. And “who the fuck am I to tell you it gets better” was a really emotional one. After years and years of being told by people that it will get better and feeling like I couldn’t be sad around them after that because they had pretty much told me to not be depressed anymore because one day I won’t be depressed, and resenting people for it, it’s really comforting to hear someone say the opposite. The final lyrics “Even if there’s a grand scheme and these moments don’t mean anything I want to collect them to remind myself that life still can still grab me I want to remember that there are moments where I’m capable of being so fucking happy” made me tear up a lil I can’t lie lmao. This song was really something and I enjoyed every minute of it

love this one a lot too. i love listening to la dispute lyrics and just pulling up genius while listening to them to get the whole perspective on the storyline of the song, album, and the callbacks that it has to the previous album.
they're not everyone's vibe, but i like their kind of sing/scream/spoken word vocals a lot. it's unique, and the combo with the instrumentals (specifically the guitars) doing elaborate things in the background is so nice to be able to focus on.
i was gonna keep digging thru my spotify but i'd be here typing for an eternity. i hope u enjoy these little songy songs! and thank u for sharing your thoughts.

or: Nancy, and Eddie, and new starts
Nancy Wheeler starts at Emerson College in the fall of 1986, and she is being so normal all the time. With Vecna actually dead, with the Upside Down actually finished this time, she tells herself that it’s finally time for her to move forward, no longer let it all tie her down. She tries so hard, but she’s always adrift, surrounded by her peers who just don’t get her even though they’re in the same classes, fired up about similar things, she’s just... not connecting with anyone the way she hoped. But she keeps trying to push herself forward into her life as she used to envision it, still stays every night in her dorm room even though she wakes up every hour with her entire body tensed, her muscles aching from clenching so tight so she doesn’t wake her roommate, and she’s exhausted, unable to get back to sleep because she can’t keep her guns under her bed here, so she sits with her back to the wall and watches the sunrise creep through the window, and she puts her makeup on and pretends, pretends, pretends until she can step off the campus and find the two people in this state who understand what she’s been through.
To her surprise, it’s Wayne Munson—who wouldn’t stay in Hawkins after what they did to his kid, who took his payout for his silence and the loss of his home and now has a small place outside the city, a little under an hour away because he wasn’t going to smother but he also wasn’t letting Eddie out of his sight for a while yet—who tells her what she needs to hear. Tells her that she can’t force feeling safe, or at least safe enough, but she can find it and she can sit herself down there, whatever that looks like, for as long as she needs to, and anybody who thinks less of her for that is never going to understand where she’s coming from, anyway. And she’s not even really surprised when she finds herself leaning on Eddie more after that—in Hawkins, in the hospital and during his recovery, he needed her and everyone else a lot, and he's not shy about it, and having him be vulnerable first lets her let her own guard down. And his apartment over the music shop is louder than her dorm room, removed from all her studies and fellow students, but it’s also a place where she can reach out and touch a weapon if she needs to, just to tell herself it’s there; and it’s where she can reach out and grab onto Eddie, too, and it’s not until she lets herself have that that she realizes how much she needed to be able to know he’s safe. She can go back to sleep, there. The rest of her family might still be in Hawkins, not always available to call and pretty far away to visit, but she can ground herself with knowing that Eddie’s safe, and that makes it easier to remember that the rest of them are, too.
And she finally starts relaxing and accepting that she can lean on people too, and Eddie is someone she can just be a weird trauma survivor around, just as much as she can relax and be a young adult and geek out about her interests around him too. They’re both huge nerds, and some of their interests overlap, and when they don’t it’s exciting and fun to pace around while she explains her thing, or watch Eddie as he jumps around and gesticulates wildly while he tells her about his.
On New Year's Day, 1987, Nancy pierces Eddie’s ears in their bathroom and in return he dyes her hair pink and helps her make a battle jacket. She fills it with not just music patches but also finds political and literary pins—defiantly adds pop patches, but keeps a Corroded Coffin pin that Robin made despite them no longer playing together, and a few metal pins that Eddie is very proud of. (She never gets really into any one particular artist, but Eddie makes her mixtapes of the songs she really likes, the ones with lyrics that make them fables and ghost stories swept up in sound.) It’s not about the scene, for her, but there is a lot of comfort and confidence she finds in donning the armor. She had a different kind of armor in Hawkins, but she wants something new now, something that marks her out as different from who she was. The sturdy denim weight across her shoulders and the bright shocks of pink in the corner of her eye feels like defense and offense both, as she adds protest pins to her collection and wears them out along with her pastel skirts and cute low-heeled boots. She’s a far cry from the hometown girl she used to be, but she’s also still the woman who grew from those roots, changed as she was by the darkness underneath. It’s 1987 and Nancy Wheeler goes to college, and she goes home to a loud little apartment on a busy street, and she feels safe enough to walk forward.

also HEH I’ve been actually been thinking about this fic today. well, technically it was kinda yesterday since it’s 3am rn. don’t ask why I am awake. ANYWAYS, some thoughts I had. like I read this post on “narration distance” and it got me Thinking about it (by that came to learn some v interesting Very Cool stuff about this draft I made yesterday? about Ichigo & Rukia lol) and was looking at my other work and i came to this one again and the start of it:
“pythor casts a look at skales. “what are you doing here?” >>
it immediately starts with a zoom-in, no easing into the character or the scene. fanfiction being a exploration of characters you already know makes this fun sandbox where you can start fics zoomed-in and it won’t be jarring in some ways because the readers assumingky ALREADY know this (assumingky as I’ve Read fics for fandom I know jack shit) anyways. I kinda forgot what sort of thoughts I had then, but. anyways.
I love it drops right into the action of things, no set up for the setting or what not. also I love how it starts hard with “Pythor” the little distance between the narration and “Pythor” right from the beginning puts a focus on Pythor. its an immediate invitation to this pythor’s world. also the way that skales is also referred to as their name in pythor’s pov, instead of a pronoun — putting focus on puthor&skales relationship and creating this smaller distance between the reader and these characters. it’s would be different to read “Pythor casts a look at them” as it makes Skales unknown and puts a distance between the narration and the “them” who is unknown. But instead, it was “Pythor casts a look at Skales” >> it gives importance to Skales as a character in this moment and significant to Pythor itself
and then looking at the entire sentence, at the middle bit that connects Pythor and Skales, “casts a look”. the verb “casts” is very fun sounding and especially the way it’s “k” and “s” sounds give it intensity and the way it it’s a deliberate action that is stressed with the word “cast” is written phonetically. it gives the following “a look” phrase a intensity.
also interesting how “casts” immediately follows “Pythor” putting Pythor…. andddd stoping myself here because my head is hurting. trying to articulate yourself is blergh. anyways V COOL START I LOVE IT V MUCH
also my fav ever part in this fic that makes me *scream*

the repetition of “skales” putting emphasis on Skales themselves and everything they are doing. also I LOVE “slithers closer” slithers has this snakey-sneaky feeling to it also the alteration of “Skales slithers” has a nice ring it to. also AHHHH the “closer” it gives it like a tension of some kind. but it doesn’t stop there it goes AND SKALES’ HAND IS NOT TOYCHKNG PYTHOR’S what if I exploded fr. I love the focus on “Skales’ hand” and the way it’s not touching pythor’s. Like the fact it’s not pythor’s is significant!!!!!!!!!!!! it’s about the HANDS, and the NEGATIVE SPACE BETWEEN SKALES AND PYTHORS HANDS and the way the me continues this with the “but” and the dramatic pause of the emdash and says ITS A CLOSE THING

PLAYLISTS ARE NOT PROCRASTINATING I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL. I cannot link any I have made because I, uh… don't believe in streaming music services, standing by my trusty analog media is another hill I will die on… but for most projects I always end up making some sort of playlist, even if it's only ever in my head instead of iTunes.
the unique aspects of music-- the way lyrics and melody and composition come together to be greater than the sum of their parts-- is massively inspirational to me. it conveys tone and vibe and purpose; it can help me see characters in new ways or remind me of certain aspects I really want to hit in any given chapter.
it's very easy to see the playlist I made for my massive Kristanna story because the chapter titles are all from the songs in the right order. writing Newsbees has actually been a bit of an amusing mental challenge in this regard, because while the Newsies soundtrack has PLENTY for me to work with I also have lots of other songs I would normally have put in the running for chapter title status, were I not trying to stay on-theme. I did end up making a little baby playlist just for my own edification, there.
Actually, this is a fun anecdote I might as well say now: when I first started writing Newsbees, I thought that every chapter would have an epigraph of lyrics of songs from other musicals, in addition to their titles which are all taken from Newsies itself. and then I realized that this was a) excessive even for me and b) distracting, so I took them out.
17. what is your favorite line you’ve ever written?
Can't pick; my style isn't really designed for me to be able to pick.
My sentences are meandering monsters or staccato fragments, and they don't really lend themselves to picking out soundbites. that's not how my brain works. my focus is always on how a sentence works within a paragraph, how a line of dialogue furthers the scene its in, rather than making any one of them stand out. I'd like to think that means I polish all of them to equal shine, but your mileage may vary on that.
Like, if I had to pick one, it would probably be the "Emerald brings the rain" bit from send 'em howling, but the line doesn't stand on its own. The whole reason it works is because of the meticulous set-up I put in front of it, and several paragaphs of set-up followed by the punch probably doesn't meet the definition of a "line."
19. what are some books or authors that influenced your style the most?
Oh, goodness. You know, I'm not sure? I don't think my writing sounds at all like Douglas Adams but I can't think of an author I turn to more often for inspiration when I'm trying to find a novel way to convey an emotion or come up with a simile; the man just had an absolutely marvelous brain for connecting two seemingly-unrelated thoughts and turning them into the perfect metaphor. I haven't touched my H2G2 anthology or Salmon of Doubt in years, but that's the drawer I'm drawing from. Which means I'm probably actually drawing from Wodehouse, whom Adams was aping in the first place. (I have never read Wodehouse myself).
Jacob Clifton, who used to write recaps for Television Without Pity, is not a book or an author but was also massively inspirational in terms of the way I think of themes and turn phrases.
Honestly, though, I think the biggest influence on my writing lately has been other fanfic authors. I don't mean this in the terms of how certain kinds of fanfiction (like the kind i write, with all-caps titles that are song lyrics) tend to have a poetic sameyness to them and we all mutually decided that carding hands through hair and toeing off shoes are a thing-- though I'm as guilty of that as anyone-- but there are definitely specific writers I can think of whose thoughtfulness and accuracy when it comes to word choice, lyricism and cadence has affected me greatly. And I shan't name them here because then you'll all see my writing style for what it is, a clockwork automaton I've built using stripped-out parts stolen (borrowed!) from these other writers I admire and the illusion of my individuality and lone genius will be shattered.
94. do you prefer dialogue or description?
I will always be a dialogue-forward writer and consider dialogue to be the engine that actually makes the story go, and it will always be the thing I find easiest and go to first. See again-again my answer about characters affecting my style-- the way I learned to not hate description was to turn description into yet another way to write dialogue, by doing it in a character's voice.

nct 2023 announced a few hours after jaehyun's solo, which i would admit a very bad move on sm's part. though i'm excited really, with the return of t7s unit and the upcoming nct concert. but i do notice one thing - where is nct japan unit??
i did my basic google search, lastart will be around 5 eps and this week is the 3rd eps. So 2 weeks more and we have the final lineup for nct's last unit. and it's just right before the nct concert and album release, so i was expecting them to be included in 😔 i feel very bad for these trainees, all these fans doomsaying and planning to boycott any nct activities is just evil they're innocent :( the fandom, at least on twitter is a whole mess, i can only hope that nct 2023 is as successful as the other nct albums. i feel it's safe to hide behind ask and say about this, and i love reading your replies so i hope you don't mind my thought dump haha

X is like a busy market where everyone hurry, shout and shove others with their elbows, meanwhile small blogs are like bars with regulars.
I can't say much about Jae's lyrics as well. As English is not my native language, I can't even feel how off the English parts are.
Many pop songs don't have intricately crafted lyrics, they just rely on words of association, a few sentences that vaguely paint a scene or describe a feeling, therefore, Jae shouldn't be much worse than the average male singer nowadays, me thinks. He does try to be poetic, describe love taking certain moments in daily life, states of "being/existing" as a starting point (spending time alone in a room, longing; daily life on the road; yearning after parting), which is nice.
NCT2023 album will be released in less than three weeks, there is little time for promotion. If the shops are ready for pre-order, it is time to make the fans know. It's inevitable that announcements overlap, NCTLab is a side project, like SM Classics, not a solo album. Sm moving to NCT2023 doesn't mean the promotion of "Horizon" has stopped. "Forever only" was included in several articles with best songs, there was a remix.
The MV has Mnet 2023.08.03 stamp at the very beginning. Seems like the MV was originally scheduled to be released earlier, on the 3d and not on the 8th?
Fans are quick to say SM does something intentionally to undermine their artists, when oftentimes it's circumstances and SM's lack of staff to properly manage everything. Which should be fixed, for sure.
Let's appreciate that Jae's MV was shot in Italy, has the boyfriend vibe that will give the song a bigger chance to take off, and not in a studio with a few hung lights like Moon Sujin&Taeil's The Moon.
The last unit is scheduled (tentatively) to release the first solo at the end of 2023. The unit need to train together, shoot some promotional content (like NCT LIfe). Quite possible they will start with a showcase in Japan to launch them. It is Riize' time now.
NCT2023 will have merch. And you can't make one for NCT Japan while the members are still unknown. Plus, the fans will hate the new unit for "riding on the coattails". They haven't earned the NCTnation concert yet.
It's OK. SungTaro were accused of every possible evil as well. A couple of years later the same fandom was crying over their departure.
Every NCT album was planned to be boycotted. Didn't happen.

Oooh, it’s going to be really predictable if I talk about Moonlight, but I’m still going to talk about Moonlight. I cannot properly put into words how happy I am with the way it turned out (but let’s try anyway).
(Cut for spoilers and, in true Moonlight fashion, also length)
I’ve told this story here and there, but Moonlight originally came from three things: my refusal to accept the Champions’ deaths, my general melancholy upon defeating Ganon and leaving behind the freedom of botw’s Hyrule, and my amusement when the game resets to your last save upon beating the story.
That last part got me thinking about how terrifying it would be for Link to wake up after beating the Calamity and finding himself having to face it again. Originally Moonlight was just a few drabbles in my notebook (the scene in chapter 5 where Link seeks out Revali was actually a later reworking of one of the very first scenes I wrote for it). The story was on the backburner for several months, but all of a sudden I decided I wanted to write it anyway.
The idea that Zelda was also caught in the loops was an early one, but it was not part of the original outline. That little tidbit only came about when I’d already picked the title for the story, and so the whole song the title came from (Shalott, by Emilie Autumn) suddenly became weirdly prophetic (the full line that the title is part of is And there’s moonlight every single night/ as I’m locked in these towers).
Speaking of titles, the chapter titles are almost all from Vienna Teng songs, and picking them out was often a lot of fun! Thematically, I’d say the most important songs were Level Up and Enough To Go By. Enough To Go By provided the title for chapters 8 (If my love could keep you alive), 11 (praying you aren’t out of range), and also Ginneke’s This flooded sky, three parts of the overall story that are deeply connected when it comes to emotional beats. Chapter 11 is the logical consequence of the events that transpired in chapter 8, and this flooded sky of course takes place during chapter 11.
(If my love could keep you alive is also my proudest title achievement. It applies to just about every character in that chapter.)
Level Up, in turn, lent its lyrics to the final chapter (Day number one in the rest of forever, because it could never be anything else), but also chapter 5 (Dynamite the dam on the flow). Going back earlier, it was also the title inspiration for another fic of mine, Your own heart that matters. YOHTM was a large part of the foundation of that chapter, so it seemed only fitting.
It’s no secret that Moonlight got extremely out of hand, I’ve joked about it often enough. My original idea for the story truly was only 30k (final word count: > 170k). When my first chapter came in at 7k, I was still foolishly hopeful. The first chapter needed to do a lot of setup! Surely the next chapters would be shorter!
I think I was disabused of that notion partway through chapter 2.
But for all that it got out of hand, I am still very happy that it did. The intended cast was originally a lot smaller: Link and Zelda, with Revali having a marginally bigger role than the other Champions, and everyone who wasn’t one of those six only appearing towards the final chapter.
Fortunately for me and for the story, the characters did not agree with that.
And I am extremely happy that I got to give not only Link and Zelda, but also the Champions and even the successor Champions something like a distinct character arc. The most difficult characters in that regard were probably Daruk, Urbosa and Teba, because they generally have their shit together, so it’s not like they need any deep character conflict or development. But we adopted the adage of ‘stable, not static’ for them. They don’t need to change who they are as people, but that doesn’t mean they can’t have their own worries and concerns, and make decisions based on that.
(I think, in the end, Harth got a little more of an arc than Teba, especially since we set him up as an intentional mirror for Revali.)
Speaking of Daruk, there was a time where Ginneke and I feared that he’d be sidelined compared to the other Champions. And then chapter 8 happened and suddenly he became a big part of the story :D
So let me talk about Ginneke. (And yes love, I know you were the one to send me the ask, but let me gush about you anyway <3)
Moonlight wouldn’t be half of what it is today without her. We refined that very first outline through hours and hours of conversation and bouncing ideas off each other. She is almost single-handedly responsible for the role Purah ended up playing in this story, as well as Link being explicitly genderqueer and Yunobo’s entire plotline.
The latter two both found their origin in Carry Them Inside You, the first of the sidefics, so let me gush about those for a moment! They’re all explicitly canon to Moonlight, and while we tried to stay fairly light on the references in Moonlight proper, you will absolutely get the best reading experience if you read the sidefics alongside the main story!
Because Moonlight only has Link and Zelda as POV characters, the sidefics were our best way to show what went on when they weren’t around (or, in Carry Them Inside You’s case, what Link was doing that he didn’t want Zelda to know about). An attentive reader may have even caught a few reveals before they were shown in Moonlight proper: the Champions still being alive was all but stated in there’s no turning away, and a soft yellow moon gave more context to Mipha’s actions in chapter 9. Some of our biggest Revali knives were shown in This flooded sky before they made it into the main story (and one never made it into the main story at all, because Revali isn't talking).
(If you know Enough to go by, then the title of This flooded sky also carries a hint towards Revali’s final plan: I’m wanting your anger/ I only want to see if I can shake you out of sleep/ And bring you out under this flooded sky/ At any price)
And of course, Ginneke’s writing is absolutely spectacular in all of them!
Going forward, the POV will probably not remain limited to Link and Zelda alone. There’s a lot going on in Hyrule, and they definitely don’t know all of it.
I am extremely happy with how both of their stories came out. For Link in particular, I think I succeeded in creating the same sense of isolation that’s characteristic of early botw, before you really set out into the world. We debated heavily whether we wanted the first four loops to be so repetitive, but I’m glad we did in the end, because it really worsened Link’s state of mind and set up the events of loop 5 and onwards.
And by that same token, I’m glad that the world expanded after that, first with Revali and then the other Champions, and then the rest of Hyrule as well. Despite the somber tone of it, chapter 11 was one of my favorite chapters to write, because I finally got to put the rest of Hyrule front and center.
(And also because it’s where any chance of Zelda and Revali ever having a cordial relationship gets killed deader than the leviathans. Zelda and Revali each consider themselves responsible for Link’s death, and they are projecting that guilt onto each other.)
Zelda and Link’s relationship was another favorite part of mine. Sometimes I reread the earlier chapters and I’m struck by how distant they were, compared to their closeness in the final chapters. They really didn’t know how to act around each other, especially since Link had lost most of his memories and their relationship was always a bit fraught to begin with. But I’m glad they evolved past that.
And I’m firmly of the opinion that Link would always chafe at being confined to a formalized court environment again. He feared that possibility from the very start (and it was part of the reason why he put off fighting Ganon for so long), so it was very liberating when he finally got to say outright ‘no, I don’t want that’, and still find a way to support Zelda, if only from a distance.
And Revali, oh Revali… In early chapters, we often joked about Revali and Purah fighting for the tritagonist position. And while Purah eventually got the title when it came to plot developments, Revali definitely earned it for character developments.
He’s a mess of contradictions. He doesn’t want to move on, but he’s ready to sacrifice his life so that Link doesn’t lose his. He longs to be a part of Rito Village again, but he’s convinced that the Rito will either disdain him for failing to take down the Calamity or only see him for his title. He feels so much guilt about failing to save Link that he takes all of it out on Zelda. It should come as no surprise that his scenes were among my absolute favorites to write, even if they were often very difficult to get right and needed multiple rewrites to hit on the correct tone.
Mipha probably got the second-biggest role out of all the Champions. When she regained her Grace in chapter 8, we realized she would remember that loop according to the rules we’d established. And that made her a perfect person to both serve as a voice of reason to stop Zelda and Revali before things really got too bad, and also call out Link on some of his shit later on.
Daruk quickly became one of my favorite characters to write (best Champion). He was unceasingly supportive, even when Link didn’t particularly want to hear that, but Yunobo being so intimidated by him was always something that weighed on him, and he tried very hard to present himself as unthreathening. Perhaps he even went a little overboard there, but he genuinely is extremely proud of Yunobo and would have been no matter what Yunobo chose to do.
In the end, it was Urbosa who probably had the least involved plotline of all the Champions, but having her around was still a massive boon for Zelda, and eventually Riju. One of the things we really wanted to make clear was that Urbosa was not here to take the title of Chief back from Riju. If Riju asked her to, she might have accepted, but it needed to be very clear that she did not outrank Riju, nor did she want to. (And if Urbosa sees a lot of Zelda in Riju, well, obviously.)
I’d also be remiss in not mentioning some of the other characters: Purah, our plot tritagonist, who was instrumental in figuring out exactly what was going on and providing Link and Zelda with some much needed help in those first few loops. Riju, who among all the time shenanigans is one of the few people concerned with the political implications of a Hyrule without the Calamity, who is such a perfect mirror of Zelda: forced to bear a burden that by all rights should have been her mother. Sidon, so concerned for Link, so eager to fight by his side that he’s the one who finally hands Zelda the solution to their problem, so willing to defy his father (and Dorephan, still mourning the child he already lost and terrified that he’ll lose yet another one). And Yunobo, always casting himself in the shadow of his famed grandparent, but so much braver and smarter than he gives himself credit for, who probably did more to turn the tide in the final battle than any other character.
(Also Teba, who is in a constant state of ‘what are all these fucking children doing here?’)
Okay, so I’ve spent almost 2000 words talking about Moonlight already, and I can probably get in another 1000 if I really wanted to. But suffice to say, I’m extremely happy with how that story came out. It’s probably the best thing I’ve written to date, and I think I pulled off just about everything I set out to do.
Of course, absolutely none of that would have been possible without Ginneke, who helped refine this vague idea of a story into something actually worth reading. It was an absolutely wild ride, and while writer’s block hit me hard at several points, I’m really glad we got to the end of it.
There’s more to this universe, though it will probably involve a lot less time shenanigans! I think I’m quite solidly done with those for a little while.

My Scene Stoner Headcanons
Disclaimer: This was all just written for fun and out of complete boredom! I did consult the My Scene wiki just to try to make it somewhat accurate, but this was super fun to write and I'm always down for some My Scene fanworks, whether its fan art, headcanons, fanfiction, or whatever else. The tag has been a little dry lately so here ya go 🙂
Inspired by this post. This is how I imagine the My Scene characters would act if they were all getting high together in a blunt rotation:
Barbie: Brags about being such a stoner but then gets paranoid once the weed actually hits her. Her paranoia would usually manifest in the form of thinking her weed was laced with something despite the weed coming from a trusted dispensary. Eventually her friends would calm her down, usually River or Delancey. Once she chills out she starts getting super giggly and chatty! She's the type to document these sessions, whether it's making boomerangs of herself taking hits with a glittery, pink filter over it or taking pics of all the munchies the group got.
Madison: Would be a little apprehensive at first because she doesn't the smell to get on her expensive outfit, but would eventually just be like "fuck it" and join the rotation. Madison would probably host the rotation at her apartment. She'd be the type to giggle incessantly while writing songs with River for Urban Desire. Being high tends to loosen her creative inhibitions, so Madison would go all out for the lyrics, even occasionally writing something kinda corny or a bit nonsensical. If she's not writing lyrics, she's hazily scrolling through clothing websites with the girls and making a few impulse purchases that she'll regret once she sobers up.
Chelsea: Goes absolutely crazy with fashion design and outfit making after hitting the blunt! Like Madison, the creativity is enhanced. She'd create a few sketches for herself and if she's feeling extra nice, Urban Desire. If she's feeling really inspired, she'll try to get on her sewing machine only to be stopped by the rest of the gang since it's not safe to operate machinery while high. I can also picture Chelsea just lying on the floor next to Delancey and Hudson while having playful, flirtatious banter with Hudson and connecting with Delancey over why despite being cousins, they didn't become closer sooner? This moment with Delancey would bring them closer.
Nolee: Despite being one of the more athletic of the bunch, Nolee has absolutely no reservations about being part of a blunt rotation every once in a while. She loves yoga, so she'd probably attempt to do some yoga poses while high to "enhance" the activity. She's also interested in the supernatural and spiritual, dabbling into tarot cards, fortune telling, palm readings, and the like. She'd use that interest to tell everyone what their "futures" will look like and whatnot, sometimes–but unintentionally–scaring her friends with the occasional ominous prediction. To counteract the paranoia she inadvertently instilled into everybody, she'd get her friends to join hands in her signature "positive energy circle", the exact kind she did before Urban Desire went on in the "Hanging Out" Webisodes.
Delancey: Would take a hit, feel the high, and joke about how New York weed just doesn't hit the same as LA's. She, along with Ellis and Hudson, would be the ones to hit the dispensary for blunt wraps and strains, careful to choose the right items. She'd probably mess with Barbie a little bit while in her paranoid state, but then quickly console her after she realizes how freaked out she is and let her know she'll be fine. Ellis and Delancey would totally have a sativa-fueled, clumsy skateboard session in the apartment hallways, causing a disturbance amongst the neighbors, a few complaint calls, and probably a scolding from a staff member as they try to hold back laughter. If they get kicked out, no problem, they'll simply sneak back in.
River: Three words: Stoner. Philosophy. Galore. This dude would be the epitome of "*hits blunt* lemme tell you guys why water isn't actually wet". This would only be encouraged by Madison's songwriting activities for Urban Desire. Ellis and Hudson would likely participate in these fake-deep philosophical discussions over a bowl of Doritos, some Gushers on the side, and a post-punk and stoner rock playlist sounding off in the background. Sutton, too, but only to laugh at how absurd his buddies sound. The guys would have a good bonding session, talking about how awesome it'd be if Urban Desire got famous and let them live the "rockstar life".
Ellis: No doubt, he'd be in charge of the munchies. Trying to make Delancey laugh, he'd probably make some goofy remark designating himself as the "Munchies Man" or something corny like that. After leaving the dispensary, Ellis, Delancey, and Hudson would hit up a local bodega and go absolutely batshit on buying snacks. They'd walk out with pretty much every classic stoner snack imaginable: hot cheetos, gushers, funyuns, potato chips, sour gummy worms, powdered donuts, popcorn, Ben & Jerry's (half-baked, of course), and so on. Shit, he and Hudson would probably order a pizza for everyone. Ellis is more observant than everyone in the group. He's already quiet and laid-back by nature, but while high those traits are only enhanced. He'd mostly be grabbing some snacks, listening to the conversations with the guys, and occasionally chiming in. That is, until the girl he likes brings out his crazy side with a skateboard in an apartment hallway.
Sutton: Would jokingly call River a "silly bloke" over his stoner philosophy. Playful banter would ensue amongst the two, ending with River lightheartedly remaking that Sutton just isn't "enlightened enough" to understand what he's saying. Sutton is a creative, as well. While making witty quips at River, he'd be reading a comic book on the couch or thinking about how he'd DJ for Urban Desire's next performance. He and Madison would probably flirt a little bit, too. Nothing too crazy, just lying on the couch talking about music and how they could collaborate on UD's next project.
Hudson: All-around hilarious guy, he'd be the one who feels like River's stoner philosophy resonates with him the most. Between Ellis and him, ordering a big ass NY-style pizza for delivery would mostly be his idea. He'd get on the phone very obviously stoned to order and give the delivery guy a huge tip. Knowing his friendly nature, he'd probably invite the delivery person inside for a hit, only to get immediately stopped by his friends. He's athletic, like some of the others in the group. He'd probably join Delancey and Ellis in their hallway skateboarding shenanigans.
