Cat's Out of the Bag, Claws and All
Synopsis: You’re sick of Cassian and Rhysand sticking their noses where it doesn’t belong. And Azriel’s tendency to let things slide when it comes to himself isn’t helping. Word Count: 4k (not proof read)
“I just think you’re becoming a bit…”
“A bit what, Cass?” Azriel was not in the mood for this. Sitting in Rita’s, in a booth right to the back while his two brothers pestered him on his love life was not how he wanted to spend the night after he’d returned to Velaris. You had been absent from his bed when he’d finally made it back in the early hours of the morning. Though he wasn’t worried. You had duties to attend to for Rhys as one of his foreign relations advisors, normally starting as soon as you woke in order to enjoy your evenings free of work to spend with him- even if he was the one still doing paperwork.
“Don’t you think she’s a bit too… extreme?” Azriel snarled at Cass’ blatant insult to you. But he held his hands up in peace, Rhys cutting in before he could do more damage. “What we’re trying to say, Azriel, is that it seems like you aren’t yourself lately. You’ve been showing up more recently, which is not a bad thing and we’re happy to see more of you. But it’s the reason of these increased showings that has us worried.”
Azriel supposed it was true. He had been showing up more – to social events that is. He was always present when it was just their inner circle, but the regular accepting of invitations to social events that didn’t need his presence was a new thing, something that you had gently insisted on since the two of you had become so close.
He was never one for meaningless interactions and had been pushing himself outside of his comfort zone for quite some time now by giving in every time you looked at him, pleading with those eyes of yours. He could never quite say no when you asked, and begged him, so nicely. But he nodded all the same to the two that he understood what they were trying to say, “I guess. I honestly didn’t think it was such a big deal. It makes her happy.”
“That’s the thing Az. Sure, it makes her happy. But does it make you?” Cass was trying, really trying not to say the wrong words and have this blow up in his face. Azriel thought for a moment, of all the times he’d watch you interact with others he didn’t even know the name of, never mind their importance to your work, while you linked your arm around his and had him trail along. He was always uncomfortable in the light, always wanting to slink back to the shadows. But you were the opposite, always blooming so lovely in the presence of everyone you deigned to offer your time to. He sometimes wished he could coddle you away from all their adoring eyes and have you all to himself. But he would never cage you like that.
“Not particularly. I do it for her, but sometimes I would rather sit at home while she goes about her work.” His admission was quiet, feeling that if he said it too loud it would carry on the wind and into your ear as you slept.
“What we’re trying to say, brother, is that spending your life with someone is all about compromise. You need to tell her when you don’t want to do something that makes you uncomfortable.” Since when has Cassian ever been so wise and all-knowing? He’d bet five gold marks Nesta had whipped that piece of sense into him after he’d thrown another of her books out the window, insisting on ‘a lovely stroll through Velaris’ instead. Azriel knew he was just jealous of the new male protagonist in her recent book series, garnering all her attention throughout the day.
But Cassian’s words had stuck in the back of his mind and refused to leave. Had he been compromising on his comfort for your own? You’d never pressed the issue with him, but he supposed he’d not put much of a front up against it in the past, agreeing almost immediately every time you’d asked for his company.
“You know I respect her and the work she does” Rhys had ordered another round as they settled in for the night of drinking ahead, “she’s one of the best at her job that I’ve ever seen, placating Eris is a testament to that. But she is intense, she has to be. I don’t want that to jeopardise you or your happiness with her in any way in the future. Putting up boundaries with her now is the best way to do that.”
Azriel knew his brothers had always had his best interest in their hearts when it came to things like this. Rhys’ intervention between him and Elain on Solstice years ago was a testament to that. He would have been hurt in a way he would never have come back from. Elain and Lucien’s bond was one of the strongest he’d ever seen – even rivalling that of Rhys and Feyre’s once given the chance. Then he’d met you. You had courted him from the minute you’d met, and he’d preened under the attention he’d longer centuries for. You weren’t his mate; no bond had snapped for him in the time he’d gotten to know you. But he’d worked past that and found that someone choosing to be with him purely of their own volition made it much harder to doubt whether he was worthy of you or not.
So, as they drank on, Azriel let their words mill over in his mind, finally agreeing with their concerns, and decided tomorrow he’d tell you how he really felt about all the parties you were asking him to attend.
Waking up to a hungover Azriel was a rare sight, but an amusing one none the less. You’d gone to bed last night early after reading a note he’d left, saying Rhys and Cass had asked him to drinks to catch up after being away for three months. You were upset, naturally, as you hadn’t seen him either during that time. But Azriel was a people pleaser, and he’d accepted their invitation with no qualms. So instead of wallowing in self-pity of not spending the first night with him back falling asleep in his arms, you had invited Mor and Feyre over to take your mind off it.
They’d left soon after midnight, Feyre wanting to get back to Nyx seeing as his father would be away most of the night. But all those sour feelings had left the second you’d awoken curled into his strong, tanned arms this morning.
Trying to shift in his hold, you’d felt him curl further into you with a groan, wing casting over the two of you to block the ray of sun peering in between the curtains. You laughed, sending a small gush of magic to pull it closed, cutting the bright light off. His hum of appreciation vibrated against your neck while you reached to play with the tresses of dark hair falling in front of his eyes. It was getting long again – which you preferred on him – but he’d cut it soon now that he was home.
“Good morning, love” you’d never tire of the purr the name elicited from the Illyrian warrior beside you, and it rumbled lowly as he reached into your touches further. “How were drinks with Cass and Rhys?”
“Long. Too long. Wanted to come home to you.” his voice, gods his voice. You loved it, the deep tones in the morning unlike anything else you’d ever heard.
“Yeah? I should have realised I’d need to rescue you, nab you back to have you all to myself.” One thing you’d realised in pursuing the Shadowsinger was his need for directness. His heart had been torn so many times that it wouldn’t beat for anything else. And you’d been more than happy to provide.
The morning was slow, full of sweetness and adoration you’d both been missing in his absence. Neither of you had been pressed to rise before noon until your stomach had grumbled its dislike of the lack of food. And so, you’d found yourselves sat at the small table in front of the windows overlooking Velaris, coffee and pastries in hand.
Azriel had woken from his drunken haze, and appeared caught in his own world, more so than usual as you noticed him missing the handle of his mug, for the second time. “Something on your mind, my love.”
His sigh was enough to know you wouldn’t like what he had to say, and your mind wandered to unpleasant thoughts of Rhys already assigning him to another mission far from home. “I swear on all that is good if that High Lord of yours assigned something else to you last nigh-”
“He hasn’t. And don’t forget he’s your High Lord also.” Azriel hated when you spoke against any decisions made by his family, which was rare. You were on the same page as them, mostly. But there were some things you disagreed strongly on. Not always living in Velaris had given you another taste of the world, and it faired well for you in your work here. But there were times when it caused temporary rifts between you and your friends, and you weren’t inclined to change if it could be solved with words instead of blades. But when it involved Azriel, you found yourself more and more inclined to picking up something sharp and slicing it into anything that wanted to steal him from you.
“We were… talking. Last night. About a couple things.” Azriel was not as sweet with words as his brother, but to see him lose them completely was new altogether. Putting the pieces together from the non-existent puzzle he’d left for you, you felt your breath hitch slightly, “About us?”
“Yeah…” you didn’t like this Azriel. The unsure and unconfident kind. He had a silent strength you’d admired since the first time you’d met. You’d fallen in love with the male that wasn’t this, and you hated seeing him act like anything lesser than he was.
“Azriel. Whatever it is, please speak to me about it. I want to know.” You’d moved from your chair, coming to sit on the side of his as you laid your hand next to his, letting him decide whether or not he wanted to take it. But the warmth that encased yours was comfort enough to know it wasn’t something that would break the two of you.
“I – don’t want to go to the – social events anymore.” Your brows pinched in confusion, where was this coming from? “Care to tell me why?”
“I’m not a fan of them. At all really. And I realised I was doing something that wasn’t making me happy. It made you happy, which I’m glad, but I can’t do it anymore. S’ too much.”
You watched Azriel retreat into himself at the admission, but you said nothing as you saw his gaze flicker over the room until it finally landed on you, searching for any anger, or hurt. “If you think I’m angry, I’m not. I understand what you mean, and I’m glad you could tell me.”
“You are?”
You huffed a laugh, “Yea, I am. So long as they’re your thoughts and not your brothers, right?” he nodded, “They are.”
“Okay, no more unnecessary social outings, for you at least. I’ll still have to attend them, considering.” He nodded again, “of course, I wouldn’t assume otherwise.”
You kissed him lightly as you made to get ready for the day, the conversation ending quicker then it began. These mornings were all you really had alone with him, both your professions taking up the rest of your days and swallowing the majority of the daylight- and twilight.
He’d winnowed soon after from the garden after kissing you goodbye, seeming lighter now that he’d voiced his discomfort, and you released a sigh you’d been holding since.
There was a party in three days, one you’d assumed Azriel would attend with you. But now that he’d expressed his feelings about them, you couldn’t bring yourself to ask. Instead, you’d prepare yourself for the emotional and verbal onslaught to come without the Shadowsinger by your side.
You hated these things. Really, really hated them. being in a room full of fae looking to raise their status, their family name in the long list of nobles was always a tiring feet to be around, but it was a necessary evil to your work. Mor stood beside you in all her ethereal glory, and the pair of you looked nothing more than astounding. Emerie was somewhere in the crowd of people, charming her way through each table she rounded. You were sometimes envious of the support she lends to Mor at these times, the two made a good pair in these places, balancing the other out that lead to progress you would only dream of making in such short time.
But it seemed tonight all you would find for yourself was concealed and blatant admissions of fae asking about your seemingly juicy availability.
“Ladies, it’s an honour to have received an invitation to such a grand celebration, pray tell” the male who’d sauntered his way over to the two of you leered in you direction, “has the lovely lady finally been freed from her cage? Should I thank the Shadowsinger for his decision to set you free from you confines that is the Court of Nightmares?” You blanched at his obvious attempt but concealed it under a smile too easy that it felt tight, “I believe you’ve been fed the wrong fruit from the vine my lord, Azriel and I are still quite the pair. I do hope you don’t mean to sully his name when he is not here to defend himself?” your sinister pout had the blood leeching from the males cheeks, and he stuttered himself into a stupor until he could find his feet to walk quickly away.
Sighing, you grabbed a fresh glass of wine, the last going sour from the interaction. Mor’s head leaned to yours unceremoniously, “Mother, that’s the fifth one in the last hour! How often does this happen?”
“Any time Azriel isn’t with me. When he’s accompanied me in the past it stopped a lot of this for the most part. But with my reputation among the courts here and abroad, anyone will try to get their claws into the person holding the most honey pots.” You were feeling the effect of it much sooner than ever before, the mental strain making your mind lag. You’d really hoped Azriel would have been here tonight, but you couldn’t lean on his strength every time.
“That’s why you’ve been bringing him along…” something seemed to click with her. “You know he hates these things. But you wanted him here for support, for you.” You nodded without hesitation, confused as to why her face seemed so stricken by the knowledge.
“There’s something I have to tell you” Mor’s tone was sullen. As she explained, you listened and felt anger wash over you in gulfs. Oh, you were going to murder someone, and soon.
The following weeks after Azriel had admitted his feelings to you were…odd, to say the least. He wasn’t sure what to make of them. you had been the same as ever to him, loving and oh so understanding when it came to his every need. You didn’t press him to attend the gatherings you had to, opting to inform him instead of your departure. While you were gone, he would catch up on all the paperwork he had waiting, and by the time you came home, his arms would be open and waiting for you to fall into.
But something was still off. He felt it in the way your shoulders slumped more than they usually would after socialising all night. It was still taxing to you, but you had always smiled after when he had attended them with you. Now, you barely had enough energy to lift yourself from his hold, falling straight to sleep once he’d guided you to bed.
Those nights, when you’re too tired to tell him about your day, and instead just curl up against his side, Azriel thinks about the moments of when you’d first met.
Your connection to him was almost instantaneous, you’d follow him everywhere you could. The idle chatter you started with had eventually turned to long and deep conversations, sweeping him along into the early hours of the morning.
Your first kiss, when you’d found him after a more draining mission. You’d helped him bathe, nursing the tension from his back and mind with loving but firm touches to his skin. He’d turned to you in a burst of confidence and captured your mouth with his before he had anytime to think himself out of it. You’d melted into him almost instantly, and the rest had been a blur of tangled limbs and sheets.
The weeks after had been full of secret touches and longing looks, until Cassian had caught the two of you in a heated kiss after venturing to the kitchen for some late night tea. Always the one known for having loose lips, the whole house had known before Azriel could’ve knocked him unconscious, but you had laughed and squeezed his hand in reassurance, letting him know that you didn’t mind being claimed by him, if he were okay with you claiming him. No, he didn’t mind that at all.
Gods, he had been in heaven ever since. Having someone to come home to, to reach for in the long family dinner when before he had to watch the mated couples around him stare adoringly at one another. He now had someone to call his own, and he was so glad it was you.
But you seemed to be getting worse as the weeks rolled on, and he couldn’t quite understand why, until Rhysand pulled him into his office.
“She’s taking a leave of absence from her position.” Azriel’s world spun on the wrong axis as he processed the words coming from his brother’s mouth.
“She hasn’t spoken to you about this?” he shook his head, mind spiralling as to why you’d do something like this. You loved your job, more than anything. It gave you a purpose, something to give back to the world.
Cassian ventured in not long after, seeming to already know what was going on, “you’re not communicating again. Azriel, this is gonna really affect your-”
“Affect his what, Cassian?”
The three of the bristled at the sharpness of your tone. Azriel cast his gaze over you. Your eyes seemed darkened by a tiredness that hadn’t been there until a few weeks ago. Even your posture, always one to hold your head high, looked slumped against Mor and Feyre, who stood behind you.
“I was just saying that you both should talk a bit more about-”
“Oh, I’m sure you have a lot of comments on what me and my mate should talk about.”
Azriel stopped.
Everything stopped.
Your- your what?
You sighed, your admission seeming to go amiss amongst the thoughts swirling in you mind, but Azriel couldn’t comprehend how you’d said something like that so…so… casually.
“Azriel, Can I speak to Rhysand and Cassian – alone?” he didn’t feel himself answer, but Mor and Feyre seemed to understand and guided him into the hallway, where the three of them waited with baited breath to hear the onslaught you’d ensue. It wasn’t a secret, how much you detested some of the decisions they made in this court. Hels, you had even come to Eris’ defense more than once during the time of the alliance to put him on the Autumn throne. But this was different, and he knew it deep in his bones.
Mate. You’d called him your mate. But there was no bond. Nothing had snapped in all the time you had known each other. He loved you, infinitely. but that had been a choice you had both made in all that you had gone through, not for some fate woven between you.
“I know, it’s a lot to take in” it was Feyre, “I think we should sit down, get some tea while we wait until they’re finished.”
So the three of them walked away from the voices on the other side of the door, and made for Feyre’s studio.
“You two need to butt out, now.” You were fuming, white hot rage consumed you as you looked to the grown males in front of you. But they weren’t acting like that, not in all the time you’d known them.
“You-you called Az your mate?”
Shit. Had you? Oh gods he was probably going insane with the thoughts in his head. No wonder he hadn’t answered you. How were you going to explain hiding something so profound from him for as long as you’d known each other.
“What of it.” you were snapping now. You don’t ever snap. That was your charm, ever the collected one, no matter what. But gods they had stuck their noses where it didn’t belong. And you detested it.
 The statement had seemed to shut the two of the up quite quickly, so you continued, happy for the lack of interruption. “I understand you’re looking out for Az; I do. But this is getting to the point where it’s ridiculous. Have you ever considered the weight in which Az holds your words? They’re like gospel to him.”
“We were just trying to help, nothing more.” You snorted as the High Lord’s words. Feyre and Mor have known of your secret since you met Azriel, but it seemed the two of them have truly kept it privy to your circle of three.
“Have you ever thought, for a second, that maybe sticking your nose where it doesn’t belong does more damage than good?” you were breaking now, the emotions you had welled up the past while cresting. “I wasn’t asking Azriel to those gatherings because I wanted him out of his comfort zone. Gods, I know he detests them.”
“Then why did you?”
“Because I needed him. It’s not easy listening to fae ask about your hand in marriage while your mate sits happily at home.”
You took a breath as the two said nothing more. “I came here to tell you that my leave was because I was overwhelmed. It’s a lot sometimes, even for me. And I hadn’t gotten a lot of time with Az without interruption since we met. I was going to tell you both today, about… the predicament. But it seems I’ve let the cat out of the bag, claws and all.”
Gods, how were you going to explain this to him? You’ve kept him in the dark for months. He’ll never forgive you.
“We-acknowledge our misstep. We truly didn’t mean to hurt you, or Azriel. And for that I apologise, for us both.” Rhys’ face was sullen enough for your anger towards the two wash away, and you nodded. “Believe me, you’re not the one who’s hurt him.”
With nothing else to say, you made for the door. Cassian’s voice stopping you just as you reached for the handle, “Just, make sure you get him to listen. He’ll go into his head, and its not a good place.”
You nodded.
 “I know.”
There will be a Part II

Summary: Cassian has some questions about you and Azzy's relationship, and because you are both very private people you choose not to answer Cassian truthfully, but what will happen when he decides to test your answer out?
Request: Nope.
Pairing: Azriel x reader
Warnings: Fluff. I'm in my soft era okay??? shush. This is set before even Amarantha so somewhere between the first war and the curse.
⋆༺𓆩☠︎︎𓆪༻⋆
Cassian glanced between you and Azriel, both of you had been speaking through the mating bond, thus it was mostly silent. Truth to be told, your bond was quite new and Cassian had not really heard you both interact with each other since you both confessed your love.
"Hey...I have a question," Cassian spoke up, raising his hand slightly. You cocked your head curiously, waving a hand to encourage him to continue.
"Do you guys use pet names?" Glancing at Azriel, he shrugged.
"No," You said simply.
Narrowing his eyes, Cassian internally scoffed. He did not buy it, not for one moment. Azriel may have been the most quiet among the three of them but he knew for a fact that Azriel was probably the most affectionate behind close doors. Azriel cared in a way that was quiet, a way that did not draw attention. The smallest details that hinted to the fact that the shadow singer cared more than he let on.
Cassian nodded to himself, he would reveal your lies and expose them for what they are, this was his true purpose in life.
⋆༺𓆩☠︎︎𓆪༻⋆
His plan commenced during dinner.
Waiting for the proper moment to strike, he suddenly piped up when you and Rhys were deep in conversation, Azriel was listening to Amren closely as she complained about how boring her life was now.
"Hey, Y/N, what do bees make?" Cassian asked slyly. Hesitating for a second, you gazed at him before answering, "Honey?" It was then that Azriel suddenly said, "Yes, Sweetheart?" Mor exploded into laughter, Amren hummed her amusement and Rhys grinned like a wild cat.
Blushing a deep red, you turned your head to hide your face in Azriel's arm, his hand coming up to stroke your hair while your body shook from trying not to laugh, his lips curling up into a smirk.
"I KNEW IT," Cassian screamed, "YOU LIARS TOLD ME YOU DIDN'T USE PET NAMES, HOW COULD YOU LIE TO ME," Wincing at how loud he was, Azriel shot Cassian a pointed glare in which Cassian quieted down, sulking slightly as he dramatically collapsed back in his chair, clutching his chest from 'heartbreak'.
"I'm sorry Cass, but you're not the most...subtle person," You tried. You were trying to not snicker and be kind about it but he gasped louder. "I can be subtle. I am soooo subtle," He rolled his eyes.
"So if I told you I found my mate would you be calm?" Rhys joked. However, Cass's eyes widened at Rhys, his eye balls seemingly almost popping out. "I'M THE LAST ONE LEFT WITHOUT A MATE????"
⋆༺𓆩☠︎︎𓆪༻⋆
Bonus:
"Never lie to my face every again," Cass whined, chuckling you nodded, Azriel's wing tucking you closer to his side, ready to scoop you up once you were done talking to Cass so you could retire home for the night.
"I promise I will tell you every detail, even how Az-"
"NEVER MIND!"

Jealous mate
Pairing: Azriel x reader
Plot: Azriel doesn’t like that you’re spending all your time with Cassian, even though you haven’t spoken since he revealed that you were mates.
Part two
Tumblr media
Azriel was seething as he watched you and Cassian messing around in the kitchen while you taught him how to bake. It took every once in him not to storm over and beat the living shit out of his brother for even flicking flour in your direction.
He was so focused on you and Cassian he didn’t notice when Elain came up next to him and patted his shoulder: “If you keep scowling like that, it’s going to stay like that permanently,” Elain joked but pulled her hand away when she noticed Azriel’s face growing angrier. “Geez, I was kidding. You do know they’re just friends, right?” Elain added when she saw he was still staring at you and Cassian.
“Of course I do,” Azriel grumbled back: “I just don’t like that he’s having such an easy time talking to her.”
Elain couldn’t help but roll her eyes at the clearly jealous male: “Maybe if you had continued to talk to her after you admitted that you were mates, you wouldn’t be in this situation. Y/n is very easy to talk to. She’s even got Nesta to open up to her, and you know how difficult Nesta is.”
Azriel knew Elain was right. You gave him so many opportunities to get to know you, but instead of taking them, he decided to avoid you. That in turn caused Cassian to step up and started asking you if you would like to spend time with him. “Do you think she’d give me another chance?”
“Of course she would,” Elain looked up at Azriel: “Don’t tell her I told you this, but she asks about you constantly. Because you two don’t interact, she’s been asking all of us about you and what you like. She’s actually the one who made you your birthday cake last month.”
“Wait, what? You said that you made my birthday cake,” Azriel looked at the middle Archeron sister in disbelief.
Feeling guilty, Elain finally confessed: “Y/n told me to take credit for making it.” Azriel felt his heart pounding in his chest at the revaluation. “Because you’ve been avoiding her, she didn’t want you to think she was pushing you to acknowledge her existence. I kept insisting that she should take credit because she was the one who made the cake, but she refused.”
Azriel felt like an asshole because he kept singing Elain praises for the cake he thought she made him, but in reality, you were the one that made it.
Just as Azriel was about to ask Elain to help him think of a way to talk to you, he heard your voice: “Elain! Azriel, would you like some bread? I promise it tastes good.”
“Of course !” Elain exclaimed before turning to Azriel: “It smells good, doesn’t it Azriel?”
Instead of replying, Azriel turned around and walked back to his room. He was about to reach his door when he could faintly hear your voice: “I told you guys that he hates me. I’m so close to giving up and moving out. I’m clearly just a burden to him.”
Every part of Azriel’s body was telling Azriel to go back and comfort you. To tell you that you weren’t a burden to him and that he thinks about you every second of every day. Instead, he simply wandered back to his room like he always did.

Promises Pt 2 (Rhysand x Reader)
Summary: You don't argue with your husband often, and never anything as serious as this. However, some things may be too hard to come back from. But, you can certainly try.
Part 1
Warnings: none
Word Count: 2k
A/N: Hi loves! Thank you for all the love on Promises! I'm so so happy everyone liked it, and I got a lot of really positive feedback and interactions! Here is the awaited part 2! I hope you all enjoy where I've decided to take it and the ending! As always constructive criticism is welcome!
Tumblr media
You found Mor when you arrived at Athelwood. You had reached out to her mind to mind and she came right away. You spent an hour crying collapsed in her arms cursing the world, the mother, the cauldron, and your husband.
You didn’t leave your bed for another two weeks.
Mor tried to convince you to eat, but you rejected the offer every time. All you did was stare grimly between the gap in the curtains.
Mate. One word, four letters. Who knew such a small word could rip your heart to shreds?
You couldn’t stop replaying your argument with Rhys over and over. “She is my mate and I don’t know what to do.” and “It's just more complicated” rattled against the walls of your brain like a twisted symphony. You could only shut your eyes and turn away from the dying sun to try to drown out the noise.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
The Night Court was in absolute shambles. It had only been a few weeks, but Rhys quickly realized how greatly the absence of his queen was felt across the entire territory.
After his return from Amarantha’s rule, you had shouldered the majority of the workload to give him time to recover. Theoretically, it made sense. He was out of practice and you had been ruling the court for 49 years by yourself. However, he was just now realizing how out of practice he was.
Rhys had never been a particularly good diplomat.
He was a good leader and a fantastic battle strategist, but he needed more patience for paperwork and meetings.
You always did say he could win a war before he understood the workings of city planning.
Now, there was a pile of letters on his desk asking him when the services the Queen had usually provided were going to resume.
He didn’t realize how much you did daily. How much improvement you made over almost 50 years of ruling by yourself.
You had established a grief counseling service for the war, there was a refugee center you helped run for Illyrian women who needed shelter, and you and Cassian even made biweekly visits to almost all of the Illyrian Camps to ensure they were upholding the new laws about wing clipping. You were even fielding talks with Keir in the Court of Nightmares.
You always did hate the way Rhys chose to handle that.
It was the way his father had taught him and his grandfather had taught his father, and even though you hated Keir, you hated seeing the rest of the court punished.
You had established an exchange program of sorts. Apparently, you had allowed a select few merchants to come to Velaris almost monthly to sell their goods, and you had a group of 20 children that would come attend schools in the City of Starlight. The work kept piling up, he had so many letters marked urgent on his desk that he was starting to go cross-eyed.
The only thing that he could think of was that he failed you. He failed his court, and there was nothing but deep unsettling loneliness clawing its way through his ribcage and straight into his heart. The only thing he had been trying to do was reach you. He had been trying to talk to you through your mind but he was met with cool obsidian walls banning him from entry.
Then, there was the matter of the unanswered mating bond pulling in his chest.
He never wanted Feyre. At least not in the same way he wanted you.
He never intended to accept the bond, but he wanted to help her. She had brought him back to his family. To his Queen. He refused to let her waste away in Spring. He thought he could use the mating bond as an excuse to get her away from Tamlin, and once she was settled he could break it off and set her free.
He had made the stupid mistake of not being honest with you in the first place.
He didn’t want you to scent the mating bond and get the wrong idea, so he stayed away for the week until he could finalize his plan.
Instead, he made the mistake of not telling you and it seemed like he was having an affair.
It had been a fair assumption to make, given his piss-poor excuse for an explanation, but the thought of being with another person made him sick to his stomach. Running his fingers over the band of your ring he knew he had to fix this.
─── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───
You distantly felt Mor sit down on the bed. A soft caring hand brushes through your hair as she calls your name softly. You turn, and blink up at her with weary eyes.
She sends you a sad tight-lipped smile before telling you why she disturbed your hibernation.
“We need your help.” She says it so softly you almost don’t hear her, “Please. The Court is running itself into the ground. Your people need you,” she pauses again like she doesn’t know if she should say what comes next. “Rhys needs you.” You bury your head back into the pillow and allow yourself to relish in the darkness a minute longer.
“Winnow us to the House, and then give me an hour.” Mor’s face lights up with a blazing victory as she reaches out to grab your hands, and then deposits you in the Oueen Suite at the house of wind.
You flinch at the bright light and want nothing more than to crawl back into bed and wallow in the crushing sadness.
But you are Queen of the Night Court, and you made an oath to your people before anything else.
You refuse to let them be punished for the mistakes of their stupid High Lord.
The House had run you a bath, and you sink into the boiling water trying to scrub away the remains of the previous two weeks. Once you’re done you sit down at the vanity in your room and go through the motions. You brush your hair, apply some makeup, and put on all the pieces of jewelry that mean the most to you like armor.
It feels like you’re suiting up for battle to go see your husband. The floor-length black slip you chose might as well have been made of steel.
You do your best to pointedly ignore your bare ring finger.
You stare at the crown you never quite thought you were worthy of. Of course, the cauldron would make Feyre Rhys’s Mate. She was the curse-breaker and Rhys was the most powerful High Lord in history.
What were you?
You push the negative thoughts away and rest the crown on your head. You need to focus on your people. They were the important factor here. You stand up and find Mor in the hall, She looks over you with immense approval before winnowing you down to Velaris.
You walk around the city before you face Rhys at the townhouse.
You visit your favorite bakery, you visit all of your charities, and you walk along the Sidra greeting the townspeople as you pass. It fills you with renewed vigor as they greet you with their warm smiles. It makes you feel like you deserve to be here.
This is your city, nothing can take you from it.
The door to the townhouse opens for you, and the first thing you smell is the stench of old wine. You wander through the house and find that Rhys hasn’t moved any of the things you made in the kitchen before you left. You found Rhys leaning over his desk. He must be out of it because he doesn’t hear your approach.
He looks tense, the muscles in his back are as taught as a bowstring. His hair looks run-through and ragged even from behind, and you bet if he turned around there would be dark purple half-moons under his eyes.
You clear your throat and Rhy’s head shoots around to look at you. You’re expecting anger, regret, and maybe even resentment to reflect in his eyes. The only thing you see looking back at you is palpable remorse. He pushes back from his desk so hard that his chair knocks over. He rushes over to you and looks like he’s going to wrap you in his arms, but he drops them at the last second. Rhy is staring at you like he doesn’t believe you’re real and his violet eyes have taken on a glassy tint.
“Hi,” you mumble carefully, not quite sure if you’ll spook him into triggering another argument. You not knowing how to act around your husband is an unpleasant foreign feeling. Rhys clears his throat and lets out a teary sort of laugh
“Hello my darling,” he tries to smile and fiddles with his hands in a way that is so uncharacteristically like Rhysand it makes your heart lurch for him in your chest. “I’m assuming there’s a lot you want to talk to me about.” You nod and Rhys casts his eyes downward before he nods at you in encouragement.
“Do you want a divorce?”  It’s the first thing you blurt out, but you’re not sure if you want to know the answer. You have to know, you need to know before you can continue on further. If Rhysand was going to rip out your heart again you’d rather him just get it over with already. Instead, he looks up at you with the most alarmed look on his face you’ve ever seen, and he reaches out to grab your hands in his.
He opens his mouth and then closes it again before he drops to his knees before you.
“No love, I do not want a divorce. I never want to be separated from you ever again,” He presses kisses into your knuckles “Please, let me explain myself.” He looks up at you in permission and you give a subtle tip of your head. “I never wanted Feyre. Ever. I only needed the mating bond to help save her. I was always going to reject the bond after she was safe.” You hesitate, and he can see the trepidation in your eyes. “Please believe me,” Silver lined the bottom of his violet eyes
“But why,” your voice cracked, and the sobs you’ve held in through you’re entire time apart came rushing out of your chest like hot lava. “The cauldron gave you a mate that matches your power. I’m just me. I’m nothing.” Rhys rises from his knees and holds your face in his hands.
Claiming and steady so he can soothe your sobs.
“Damn the cauldron. I love you to the end of this earth, and the next earth beyond it. I made mistakes, and I handled this situation completely the wrong way. I am so sorry Darling. I am lost without you, when you’re not here I am missing half my heart. Please, come home.” Another sob bubbles up from your throat and your husband pulls you against him, rubbing soothing circles into your back and apologies into the crook of your neck. Once you both calmed down he pulls back from you and offers you your ring. The sight almost makes another sob bubble in your throat. “Well? Could you forgive me?”
You nod and Rhy’s whole body almost sags in relief at your words as he slips the sapphire back onto your finger. It’s like a void in your soul has been filled.
You and Rhys certainly still have a lot to talk about and a lot to work on, but you know you’ll do it together.
Just like you always have.
“So, I heard the Court is falling to pieces without me?” You look back at Rhys’s desk in question and he sends you a guilty look in return. He scoops you up in his arms, despite your shout of protest, and starts walking you toward your shared bedroom.
“Love you don’t even know how lost I am without you, but we can get to that after I’m done thoroughly apologizing to my Queen.” His voice sends a shiver of dark promise down your spine, and you have the settled feeling in your stomach that everything will turn out just fine.

Summary: Azriel is forced to find some sort of release after being barred from pining for Elain. He finds a lovely distraction at Rita's.
Trigger Warning(s): minors do not interact, 18+, SPOILERS, smut, partying, one night stand, not proofread
Word Count: 1.2k
A/N: Making this, hopefully, into a series :)
Azriel should have been furious, or at least insulted. Instead he felt relieved to get a few days off. When Cassian had commented on his recent crankiness and Rhysand had agreed, he was more than ready to defend himself. But then Rhysand had suggested he take a much needed break. And then Cassian had made the comment about getting laid. He wasn’t wrong.
For weeks, Azriel and Elain had been teetering on the edge of teasing and flirting. For weeks Azriel had gotten so close to being with her, feeling skin against skin, cock buried deep within her. Yet, at every opportunity, something—or someone—had interrupted. Rhys. Cas. Feyre. Even Nyx, from time to time. Azriel new Rhys didn’t want him with Elain, but now it was starting to feel like everyone else was in on it. Conspiring against him.
But would they really be conspiring against him if they gave him a few days off to fuck?
Azriel took a deep breath as he entered Rita’s. He wasn’t really sure what to look for. A blonde, like Elain? A brunette? He wasn’t even entirely sure he’d be able to pull anyone. Elain was still plaguing his mind. It was her he wanted, after all. Maybe he should just go home and sneak into her room.
Just as he was about to turn to leave, someone caught his eye. His eyes trailed over the curves of her body, drinking her in. She was beautiful, one of the most beautiful females he’d ever seen. The lights caught on the sparkles of his dress, and for a brief moment, Elain was forgotten. It was just Azriel and the female. She was surrounded by a group of what he assumed was her friends. As he watched her hips sway to the beat, he convinced himself he could do this. If not for his satisfaction, then for some sort of release.
Azriel made his way to the bar and ordered a drink. His eyes never left the female, and he could have sworn her eyes crossed his. A shiver of static ran down his spine at the brief eye contact. He wouldn’t leave without trying.
Another moment of eye contact had him clutching his drink tightly. He watched as the female smiled knowingly. He stood, his drink discarded and walked toward her. At this point, the female had moved away from her friends, and was now looking at him boldly with sweet, sultry look.
“I don’t think I’ve seen you here before,” the female said, her voice carrying over the music. Her voice wrapped around his brain like a mist, a hot, heavy mist that filled his veins with desire.
“I haven’t been in a while,” Azriel responded. His eyes drank the female in front of him in. She was much more beautiful up close.
“I must be lucky.” Azriel carefully watched the female’s tongue dart across her lips, moistening the chapped flesh. “Do you want to dance?”
Azriel found himself smiling, nodding subtly. His hands found purchase on her hips as they swayed to the rhythm of the song playing. Their bodies grazed each other as they moved, electricity buzzing between them with each touch. The female turned, and her luscious ass found place against him. His cock twitched at the intimate contact. He internally groaned. It had been too long since he was able to do this. His hands roamed from the female’s waist to her abdomen against the silky fabric of her dress. His fingers traced the area just below her navel, where there should be an extra bump of fabric clothing her sex. He found none, and nearly had to bite his tongue to control the sudden impulse to take her in front of everyone.
“Let’s get out of here,” Azriel found himself saying, his lips brushing against the shell of the female’s ear. “To the alley.”
The female in his arms nodded her head and started for the alley. Azriel was close behind her, his hands never leaving her hips. His cocked twitched in his pants from anticipation. Just a few more steps, a rounded corner and he’d be buried to the hilt within this unnamed female. Should it have bothered him that he cared more about what her sex felt like than what her name was? It should, he concluded, but he needed this. He supposed he could find out the female’s name quickly. At least to not treat her entirely like walking release.
The brisk autumn air kissed Azriel’s face as they finally reached the alley. Within seconds, he had the female against the wall, lips against hers with a devouring fever. The female returned the kiss, her back arching off the wall of Rita’s. His blood bubbled under his skin, and kissing her wasn’t enough. Running his hands over her breasts wasn’t enough. He thought he’d be able to play with her a bit, feel out her sex. But he was afraid he wouldn’t be able to wait.
Azriel shoved a hand down his leathers and freed his cock. The autumn breeze felt soothing against the heated flesh, and he pumped himself once, then twice. He pushed the female’s dress up her thighs enough to reveal her dripping sex. He licked his lips and rest the tip of his cock against her entrance. He groaned softly with the contact.
“Is this okay?” he asked, his breath low and husky.
The female nodded, hips wiggling for more friction. “I didn’t get your name,” she breathed, her fingertips digging into his shoulders.
He pushed himself inside her, moaning as her puffy walls embraced his length. “Azriel,” he ground out. He snapped his hips against hers and relished at the lewd sound it made. His arms tensed, his fingers digging into the fleshy part of her hips. “Yours?”
“Y/N.” Her voice was breathy, broken up by moans. She felt so good around him, so – right.
His thrusts became rougher, deeper and his mind couldn’t form a coherent thought. She tightened around him like a vise as her moans became louder and higher. His name left her lips in an utterance, like a prayer. The sound of the way she moaned his name sounded like pure bliss. Azriel found himself too close to the edge too soon, but so did this beautiful female. Within a few more strokes, she was a moaning mess underneath him. Her fingernails grazed against the base of his wings, and Azriel came with a loud moan.
Azriel stood there for some time, forehead leaning against her shoulder and breathing heavily. His grip loosened against her hips, but still held her firm enough to keep her held up. A sudden shame filled Azriel. He didn’t intend to finish that quickly, but at least she finished, too.
He raised his head, eyes meeting hers and smiled softly. “Sorry,” he said sheepishly. “For the, uh, quick finish.”
He watched as a dazzling smile crossed Y/N’s features. “I think mine was a bit quicker than yours,” she responded. Her hands ran gently along his shoulders and biceps. “Maybe we can do this again? For a little longer?”
Azriel smiled, and nodded before he could logically think. Some release every now and then wouldn’t be too bad, especially if he were being micromanaged around Elain.
“Maybe we can go back to my place?” she suggested shyly. Her hips rolled against his gently as an indicator to what she meant. Azriel didn’t have to think logically to answer her question this time.

"A thing of secret, lovely beauty"
Tumblr media
Artist: Kloartz over on IG!
~Gwyn nimbly rolled to her feet, grinning so broadly that Nesta was momentarily taken aback by it. The priestess had been pretty in the library, but with that joy, that confidence as she aimed for the three priestesses, she had emerged into a beauty to rival Merrill or Mor.
~Gwyn’s fingers slid into hers, squeezing tight. Nesta looked up to find her holding Emerie’s free hand as well. Gwyn smiled again, her eyes bright. “Our stories are worth telling.”
~Gwyn let out a high-pitched noise that was nothing but pure excitement. Azriel, on the other side of the ring with the rest of the priestesses, half-turned at the sound, brows high.
~Azriel had winnowed her and Cassian here after training, but hadn’t lingered. Apparently, Gwyn wanted him to go over dagger handling, so he’d left them with a promise to return in an hour.
From the bonus chapter: Which happens inbetween Ch. 58/59 of ACOSF
~His shadows peered over his wings at her.  The young priestess smiled--and Azriel thought it might have been directed at his curious shadows.
~“Aren't you cold?" His breath clouded in front of him.  Gwyn shrugged. "Once you get moving, you stop noticing it."  He nodded, silence falling. For a heartbeat, their gazes met. He blocked out the bloody memory that fashed, so at odds with the Gwyn he saw before him now. Her head ducked, as if remembering it too. That he'd been the one who'd found her that day at Sangravah. "Happy Solstice," she said, as  much a dismissal as it was a holiday blessing.  He snorted. "Are you kicking me out?"  (He's showing concern about her being cold and we have proof from Azriel he was there at Sangravah and Gwyn isn't making things up like the other side tries to say)
~Pure amusement glittered in her stare. Better than the pain and grief he'd spied a moment before. So he offered her a crooked smile. "I can't  sleep without my favorite dagger."
"A comfort to every growing child."  Azriel's lips twitched. He refrained from mentioning that he did indeed sleep with a dagger. Many daggers. Including one under his pillow. (Azriel shows more positive emotions with his interaction with Gwyn than seemingly around anyone else)
~How was the party?" Her breath curled in front of her mouth, and one of his shadows darted out to dance with it before twirling back to him. Like it heard some silent music.
~She shrugged again, irreverently. Az narrowed his eyes, studying her. "Do you, though?" she pressed. "Sing?" Azriel couldn't help his soft chuckle. "Yes."
~Gwyn tried the movement as slowly as he had, and he watched her  self-correct, fighting against the urge to open up her wrist and rotate the blade. She did it three times before she stopped falling into the bad habit. "I blame Cassian for this. He's too busy making eyes at Nesta to notice such mistakes these days." Azriel laughed. "I’ll give you that."  Gwyn smiled broadly. "Thank you." Azriel dipped his head in a sketch of a bow, something restless settling in him. Even his shadows had calmed. As if content to lounge on his shoulders and watch.
~"Happy Solstice," Azriel said before aiming for the archway into the House. "Don't stay out too much longer. You'll freeze."  Gwyn nodded her farewell, again facing the ribbon. A warrior sizing up an opponent, all traces of that charming irreverence gone. Azriel entered the warmth of the stairwell, and as he descended, he could have sworn a faint, beautiful singing followed him. Could have sworn his shadows sang in answer. (Again, Azriel is showing care/concern over Gwyn possibly being cold/out too long and just look at the wording used here)
How the bonus chapter ends:
Clotho's pen moved once more. She deserves something as beautiful as this. I thank you for the joy it shall bring to her.
Something sparked in Azriel's chest, but he only nodded his thanks and left. He could picture it, though, as he ascended the stairs back to  the House proper. How Gwyn's teal eyes might light upon seeing the necklace. For whatever reason... he could see it.
But Azriel tucked away the thought, consciously erasing the slight smile it brought to his face. Buried the image down deep, where it glowed quietly.
A thing of secret, lovely beauty.
These scenes take place after the bonus chapter:
~Cassian glanced over at Az, but his attention was fixed on the young priestess, admiration and quiet encouragement shining from his face."
~The world seemed to pause at the words. As if it had been following one path and now branched off in another direction. In a hundred years, a thousand, this moment would still be etched in his mind. That he would tell his children, his grandchildren, Right then and there. That was when it all changed.
~Azriel went wholly still, as if he, too, had felt the shift. As if he, too, were aware that far larger forces peered into that training ring as Gwyn moved.
~Azriel clapped his hands, and all the females straightened. “You’ll work in groups of three.” Gwyn asked Az, her teal eyes bright, “What do we get if we finish the course?” Az’s shadows danced around him. “Since there’s no chance in hell any of you will finish the course, we didn’t bother to get a prize.” Boos sounded. Gwyn lifted her chin in challenge. “We look forward to proving you wrong.”
~Gwyn threw Azriel a withering stare as she strode past him. “See you tomorrow, Shadowsinger,” she tossed over a shoulder. Az stared after her, brows high with amusement. When he turned back, Nesta grinned. “You have no idea what you just started,” she said. Az angled his head, hazel eyes narrowing as Gwyn reached the archway. “Remember how Gwyn was with the ribbon?” Nesta winked and clapped the shadowsinger on the shoulder. “You’re the new ribbon, Az.”
~“The first had just unbuckled his belt when Azriel arrived.” Silent, unending tears streamed down Gwyn’s face. “Azriel slaughtered all of them within moments. He didn’t hesitate. But I could barely move, and when I tried to get up … He gave me his cloak and wrapped me in it." (Without hesitation, Azriel slaughtered all the soldiers and gave Gwyn his cloak.... similar to Lucien breaking free of his restraints without hesitation to get to Elain and give her his cloak)
After reading all this.... how can you NOT think Gwyn and Azriel are endgame? And this is what you missed on Glee......

Tumblr media
My mate, my husband, my love doesn't love me anymore. It's so painfully obvious that Elain is in love with him the way she clings to him like a leech. At first I thought it was one sided. But as the days go on, it's as if Azriel returns her feelings.
I wanted him to help her, it would help get his mind of other things but how I regret that.
Why does he love her? Why am I not enough?
Elain is beautiful, a kind of beautiful I could never be. Her pale skin a contrast to my tanned skin, she was slender while I was toned. Bright blue eyes to my muddy brown eyes. Soft fingers to my calloused hands.
I compared myself to her every single day, I tried becoming like her but what was the point, he doesn't even notice me anymore.
Their interactions cut through me like a knife. The way he smiles around her. I made him smile like that first. Why does he look so happy with her?
I tried everything, making his favourite food, waiting for him. But of course he didn't care, I still had hope though. Because he still kissed me goodnight, even though he smelt like her. He still told me I love you even though he stayed at hers the whole day. I miss my Azriel.
I had gotten closer to Nesta and Feyre, both of them unknowingly distracting me. I looked forward to the days I painted with Feyre or when I read a book with Nesta.
Finally reaching me and Azriel's shared apartment, I face palmed myself when I realised that I had forgotten the book Nesta recommended at River House. Hurrying I went back to the house. I opened the door and sighed in relief when I saw the book sitting on the table. Grabbing it, I'm about to leave when I hear giggles.
It couldn't be.
I walked to the garden. Yes it could. I gasped when I saw him kissing her. The pain it felt like a thousand daggers being stabbed in me. My heart ached at the sight in front of me.
"You look beautiful my love," Azriel said as he kissed my hand. I giggled.
Was it all a lie? When he said I'm beautiful was he lying to me?
"That's a really pretty picture, Azriel," Elain says. Jealousy hits me like a truck when I see he's drawing her.
He always drew me not Elain.
Azriel smiled to Elain while he placed a flower in her hair.
She looks nothing like me so why does he look so happy?
My thoughts run wild as I race out of the River House and to Madja's office. Knocking on the door, I open it and gasp as the pain becomes too much to bear, my heart feels as if it's being ripped out of my chest and my knees crumple under me. "He cheated on me,". With that black dots fill my vision and I collapse on the floor. I can hear frantic voices faintly in the back of my head.
There's a dull ache in my heart, I can feel pressure on my hand and a soft hum of chatter around me. My eyes flutter open, and I wince as the bright light floods my vision. I gaze around the room my eyes narrowing when I land on Elain and Azriel, "Get out," I whisper.
They both gape at me in shock. "I said 'Get out'" I say louder, my voice sore from crying.
"What, why?" Azriel stares at me dumbfounded. "Don't play dumb with me Azriel, I saw you kissing," I say sharply.
"My love it was a-" I cut off his stupid excuse, "Shut up Azriel, we're over get out," I close my eyes, in case I start crying again.
"Elain, do you need a special fucking invitation?" Cassian bites out. I hear a pair of footsteps scurry out of the room.
"I think I need some time," I breathe out. The pressure on my hand leaves and I open my eyes. "Cass can you stay? please" I say my lip wobbling. I see Nesta give a small nod to Cassian and her and Feyre hug me.
I reprimand myself when tears slip out but only freely escape when the door shuts.
"I went back for my book and saw them," I explain, Cassian pulls me into his chest and lets me cry.
I don't know how long I cry in that hospital bed with Cassian by my side. But after a while I finally have the courage to say "I'm gonna go visit my brothers for a while,". He only nods in understanding.
After a restless sleep I'm discharged by Madja, and I head to me and Azriel's apartment. Seeing him asleep on the couch, I tiptoe to our bedroom grab my stuff and just as I'm about to leave the house, Azriel is behind me and he says "So you're leaving just like that?" he grabs my wrist so I can't open the door.
"Just let me go. Please let me leave," I breathe out, my heart breaking.
a/n: lemme know if u want the part two, cos i dont like angst without happy ending 😭

its amazing that every single thing in the acotar series paints Rhys the one In the Right so often and the v few times he's ever acknowledged to be in thr wrong he gets forgiven in like. a chapter. and I'm not even talking about Rhys and Nesta bec I understand nuance and neither of them are 100% in the right for most situations
but Rhys with Az and warning him off Elain? Rhys is in the right. Rhys going behind Mors back and letting her abusers into her safe space and then lying to her face? it's a war 🥺 and he'd have killed Amarantha on the spot 🥺🥺🥺. he gets to cry about it and all is forgiven. Rhys threatens Amrens life if she didn't help with Azriel behind her ready to attack if need be. Rhys making a rape joke about Luciens abused mother? Feyre growls at Lucien when Lucien gets upset, Azriel and Cassian #stiffen waiting in case Rhys gives the order to strike Lucien dead. Rhys keeping a life threatening pregnancy from his wife and putting a gag order on EVERYONE else? Well Nesta was cruel and mean about it and just wanted to hurt her so she's the one in the wrong, actually
meanwhile Nesta has been punished again and again for the cabin years. She has been murdered for helping Feyre after agreeing to help Feyre bec of "everything Feyre sacrificed for them". Nesta is punished again and again by the ICs snarky comments, by Feyre not painting her. Nesta is punished for using the bar tab left open and a bribery to self medicate to smother her powers that scare her and to numb herself. Rhys somehow butts his way into the relationship between Feyre and Nesta, every time they find common ground and begin to mend their relationship. SOMEHOW every time Rhys gets involved they now have to start back at square one
yes. Nesta could have been a kinder sister. yes. Nesta could have done more in the cabin. yes. Nesta could have asked for/taken the help. yes. Nesta could not have abused the money that Rhys just So Selflessly bribed her with Gave Her
Have you Noticed that Nesta has zero beef with Azriel because he does not instigate a fight with her. He never insults her and they are perfectly civil.
Mor compared her to the people who shoved nails in her stomach and told her to "keep her forked tongue behind her teeth." Amren calls her a waste of life. Cassian watches Nesta waste away and then comments on her breasts in the same breath he notices how thin she is. Nesta almost dies to the Hike from Hell and being severely dehydrated and weak carrying the bags. he let's his friends talk shit about her and agree with them when they suggest she'd thrive in the Court of Nightmares. Rhys is a fuckhead who takes away her home, her autonomy, uses Elain against her, uses her trauma and grooming against her to get her to seduce Eris
I. fucking. get. it. She failed as a sister. I GET IT. she doesn't deserve to be punished for it over and over and over again. it is within Feyres right to cut her off and not interact with her. the IC, the *governing body* do not get to keep kicking and kicking her while she's already down
how much beating does this girl have to take to make it even. How much does she have to give to earn basic decency
she's just a girl. She's a traumatized, flawed, imperfect 23 year old girl getting beat down by 500 year olds

Rhys being protective of Gwyn just melts my heart because there’s a reason he’s so protective and it’s because he relates to what she’s been through and knows what trauma like that does to someone. And now it’s making me want to see more Rhys x Gwyn sibling-like interactions. Kinda like Azriel x Nesta and Feyre x Cassian.
Like just imagine Rhys randomly appearing at Valkyrie training one day and Gwyn is challenging Azriel to a duel. Rhys watches in disbelief because he’s never seen someone that doesn’t know Azriel for long challenge him like that. And then Rhys sees how far Gwyn has come and it makes him so happy, he tells Gwyn all of Azriels weaknesses and cheers her on just to piss Az off and Gwyn is loving every second of it…
UGH SARHA PLEASE I NEED IT 😩

I think it's very telling how SJM structured Azriel's romantic interests.
When you think about Moriel, we never see Azriel actually expressing any verbal interest for Mor. Everything is based on what others assumed about him and his feelings, and that included Mor herself.
Rhys thinks he is in love with Mor. Rhys thinks that Azriel has been questioning the lack of mate bond. Rhys passes all this info on to Feyre, without ever actually talking to either Mor OR Azriel. Feyre immediately falls under the spell of confirmation bias, and views every Moriel interaction as 'romantic'. While, at the same time, innately wondering something else entirely--why aren't Azriel and....Elain mates? She seems to be questioning the Cauldron as well. She, consequently, questions Rhys as well about that. He is so entrenched in his belief that he cannot pull back and reassess the situation.
Mor is so convinced that Azriel is still in love with her, she still plays games with him and Cassian. Whereas little hints have been dropped throughout the books about how maybe, Azriel hasn't been all that into her for a LONG while now. Even him going to Rita's took hundreds of years of convincing from Mor, which isn't exactly normal behaviour from an enamoured man.
And then SJM suddenly drops us into Azriel's head. Where we actually see firsthand what he's been thinking.
Elain.
Turns out, Rhys was right, but also entirely, abysmally wrong.
Because Azriel HAS been questioning the Cauldron.
About Elain.
Azriel has been wondering about the mate bond.
With Elain.
Azriel has been love struck.
With Elain.
Azriel has been suffering over unrequited love.
Only it wasn't Mor. It's Elain.
And lastly, for once, Azriel received offer and permission.
From Elain.
And then, when Rhys questions him 'What of Mor?" Azriel seems almost confused. Because it's been a long time since he thought of Mor. Because not one inner thought in his head was about Mor.
Everything was about Elain.
It's almost as if SJM began clearing the weeds, sweeping away everyone's preconceived notions about Azriel, and showing the light at the end of the tunnel inside his mind.
And it's Elain.

can i request a azriel x reader, she’s a day court general and she meets him during a meeting about the hybernwar. she flirts with him shamelessly. infront of everyone and she doesn’t care one bit. she wants azriel and she’ll have him👀 he gets flustered and blushes when they’re alone and only smirks or have a small smile when they’re in public. in the end he gives in and finds out she’s nervous because she didn’t think he would actually like her back😋
I'm not going to lie, I wasn't 100% sure where I was going to go with it, but I had a lot of fun writing it and seeing where it went.
General Games Azriel x Female Reader
Warnings: MDNI, Smut & Fluff
You had noticed Azriel at the first meeting between the high lords regarding hybern. You had heard countless rumors about him, but seeing him in person was something else. You knew you wanted him before he even said a word, and when he did speak, well, you knew you had to have him. His shadows intrigued you as they seemed to anticipate and follow his every move. After Tamlin and his emissaries left, refreshments were served along with drinks. You approached Azriel and introduced yourself as you held out your hand. He shook your hand and introduced himself, "I've heard good things about you and am looking forward to working with you." He said. "I'm familiar with your work as well as the rest of your courts. I had heard rumors about you and must say you're quite impressive in person." You see a small smirk, and his cheeks turn a hint of pink.
"You shouldn't believe everything you hear." He tells you. "Well, either way, I look forward to coordinating with you. Would you care for a drink?" You ask, grabbing 2 from the tray of a passing servant. "Your confidence is as legendary in person as the rumors indicate." He says with a smirk as he takes the glass. "What can I say, I've always gone after what I wanted, and you don't get far without confidence." You tell him as you boldly move closer to him. His smirk grows as he notices his friends observing the interaction. "That's one way of looking at it." He responds as his shadows swirl around him. "Do I make you nervous?" You ask as he keeps scanning the room. "No, why do you think that?" He asks.
"The subtle things you do, shifting your weight, occasionally looking away, the change of your breathing from time to time." You answer, "or maybe you find me boring and are waiting for someone to come save you." His eyes dart to yours, "you're very observant, but wrong on both counts. I look away to keep an eye on my high lord and lady to make sure there aren't any threats. The weight shifting is from the wings and training. Most don't notice because it's subtle enough, and the breathing is because I want you." Your mind explodes at his last comment. He smirks as if he can see it, "Does that make you nervous?" He says, leaning in close to you, "I think it does. Your breath just hitched, and you're already wet for me."
"Should I be nervous?" You practically whisper in his ear. "Very, you've never been with anyone like me, and you can't deny it." Before you can second guess yourself, you kiss him, catching him off guard. His hands instinctively wrap around your waist before his brain catches up with his actions and breaks the kiss, looking flustered. You smirk, proud of yourself, that you managed to catch him off guard and cause him to be flustered. "You'll be paying for that later." He whispers before giving a quick nod to Cassian and escoring you out. "Where is your room?" He asks. You direct him to your room, which seems smaller with him in it. "Last chance to back out." He says as he holds your hips. Your voice shakes as you say, "Never." His grin turns wolfish as his lips press against yours in a bruising kiss.
You feel the back of your dress being undone, but his hands are still on your hips, his shadows, you think to yourself. You feel him chuckle as he realizes you figured it out. You feel the warmth of his shadows brush along your shoulders as they remove your dress straps, letting it fall to the floor. He pulls you to the bed and lays you down, "Relax, I've got you." He says, sensing your heart racing. "Just breathe, I'll take good care of you and your little pussy." He says while ripping your lace lingerie off. His shadows wrap around your ankles, spreading your legs as he kisses down your body to your melting core. "You're so wet for me already, such a good girl." You blush at his praise and let out a small moan. He teasingly kisses and nips your inner thighs coming ever so close where you want him the most before moving away. "Azriel, please. I want you so bad." You whimper. "How bad do you want me princess?" He asks as he gently blows on your exposed center making you whimper and squirm.
"Very badly, please." He give a sinister smirk, "What do you want? He asks. "Do you want my fingers?" He asks while running his fingers along your pussy, "or maybe my tongue?" He says while teasing your clit with the tip of his tongue, or do you need to be full of my cock?" He asks as he teases you with the tip. "Holy mother above, I want it all Azriel, please." You moan as his fingers slip inside you while his tongue teases your clit. His fingers quickly finding your sweet spot making you moan louder, "Azriel! If you keep that up I'm going to cum!" You manage to say between moans. He was right, you'd never been with someone like him. His fingers expertly working in unison with his tongue as he brought you closer to orgasm.
"Good girl, cum for me, let me taste you." He says as he pushes you over the edge. Continuing to drink your cum before standing up and moving between your legs. You feel him slide inside you, stretching you as you take the first few inches. He sees you wince and stops to let you adjust. "You're doing such a good job, just relax." He says as his shadows tease your nipples while he leans forward and kisses you. Once he feels you relax around him he slides further in. "That's it, you're taking me so well, princess." He praises. He thrusts deep inside you as he kisses you harder. You return his kiss, deepening it as you start grinding against him.
He effortlessly flips you so your on top, his hands holding your hips as you grind against him. You start riding his cock, bracing yourself against his chest. "That's it, use my cock for your pleasure." He moans as you pick up your pace. His hands gripping your waist as he starts thrusting up into you. Your head thrown back in pleasure as you practically scream his name as he takes you at a bruising pace. His cock hitting your sweet spot with each thrust. You grip his arms tight, while whimpering as he takes you. "I'm gonna cum!" You moan before he feels your pussy spasming around his cock forcing him to cum. You shake with aftershocks as you collapse on top of him. He wraps his arms around you and your bury your face in his chest.
He gently strokes your hair as he feels warm droplets on his chest. He gently lifts your chin so you look at him, his face instantly showing concern at your tears. "Are you hurt? Was I too rough with you?" He asks, his voice laced with worry. "You bury your face in his chest again. "I don't know why I'm crying." You admit feeling stupid. "It was just really intense." He wraps his wings around you before pulling the blanket over you. He cradles your head against his chest, "You're experiencing a drop. It's nothing to be embarrassed about, princess." He says as your breathing slowly evens out. He rubs soothing circles along your back. "Why do you call me princess?" You ask softly. "Because you're my princess." He says like it's the most obvious thing in the world. Once again, he smirks as he can tell your mind is blown. You can't help but smile like an idiot at the thought. "Get some rest, princess." He says softly, feeling you relax against him.

I think I've pinpointed my issue with ACOWAR; the books essentially foreshadow the stories of Elain and Nesta when their book comes back into play to expand on what we were told would happen.
In WAR, Nesta shows that she feels more at home in the HoW and the NC. She takes a stand when she feels like she can help people, foreshadowing her powers with her finger point. She’s comfortable in Illyrian leathers, showing she fits in more. Moreover, Cassian constantly badgers her to train, and we see glimpses of the inevitability of their bond snapping into place.
It’s funny how e/riels like to quote and use WAR to justify their ship as endgame. However, if one were to zoom out of that lens, it shows just how drawn Elain is towards Lucien. Lucien knows when to push to fight for Elain and when to pull back to empower her to do more, and, more importantly, what the mating bond means for them both.
I am sorry to say, but Azriel is going to play a version of Graysen for Elain in her book or, at the very least, he’s going to be lumped in as a final straw for Elain to process just how differently she is being treated by males other than her mate, especially when she is not being heard or when her wants are being dismissed.
Elain is also going to realize just how differently Lucien treats her and realize just how much she's drawn to Lucien. Considering all the moments where we see Elain with Lucien, we see her attention towards him in subtle ways: The meeting at the library, the half-step towards him, saying his name when he's being disrespected by other people, asking if he was alright as he ran across the battlefield towards her, peering at his face, and the push from Feyre that prompted Elain to ask him to come live in Velaris.
Lucien, too, we saw him advocate for her while she is not in the room. The only reason why Elain got better was because Lucien pushed for her to get outside, while slipping into heir markers, and the reason why they won the war was because Lucien believed in her vision to find Vassa. When Lucien said that he is not needed here to find Vassa, we get moments of Elain being able to do more. We see her learning a new skill, using her powers to find the Suriel, kicking off the hound, and wanting to plant more gardens.
The consistency and depth of Elain and Lucien's interactions in WAR lay a sturdy foundation for their relationship's credibility. Elain's emotional responses and Lucien's actions on her behalf bolster the authenticity and depth of their connection. These pivotal moments serve to anchor the Elucien ship in the narrative.
Every interaction between Elain and Lucien is charged with understanding, tension, and mutual longing. Their dynamic mirrors SJM's narrative approach of challenging destined pairs, ensuring their journey is fraught with obstacles. Through these trials, they are compelled to confront their bond together. And after the events of ACOSF, their union feels not only inevitable but earned, solidifying their place as a compelling and deeply intertwined pairing within the series.

The assault at Sangravah happened in early ACOMAF (before Elain's existence even came into picture for Azriel - 3 days before he even got to meet Feyre)... So I don't get how G and Az are supposed to be mates when he's had all that time to feel something?
There's the parallel of Rhys' father feeling his mating bond snap into place the moment he met his mother being assaulted.
"One look at her, and he knew what she was..." (ACOMAF, ch. 16)
Or Rhys himself feeling the bond when Feyre was being tortured by Amarantha...
"And I knew as I picked up that knife to kill her... I knew right then what you were. I knew right then that you were my mate." (ACOMAF, ch. 54)
Or Cassian simply meeting Nesta. "Say what I've guessed from the moment we met" he breathed. What I knew from the first time I kissed you. What became unbreakable between us on Solstice night." (ACOSF, ch. 62)
Bonus from Nesta: “‘From the moment I met you, I wanted you more than reason. From the moment I saw you in my house, you were all I could think about. And it terrified me. No one had ever held such power over me."
Or even Lucien after Elain was Made and maybe even while being thrown into the Cauldron... I don't even need a quote for them, but even Lucien knew and has tried seeking Elain out after the incident.
It's stated in the books and shown again and again that it's the males who are deeply affected by the mating bond. That they can know from the moment they meet. They all in one way or another sought after the females. Even Nesta and Feyre felt something before they knew or opened themselves up to it. And since they all met - They. Couldn't. Stay. Away.
But there's like... no hint of it from Az after stumbling upon G? Like he just literally stumbles upon her - never actually even actively seeking her out through all those years? He hasn't even actively tried to stay away? He's just... *crickets*
It's been Gwyn making noises and attracting his attention through all their scenes together. It was Gwyn asking for dagger lessons. It was 'Gwyn' making Az the new ribbon (whatever that means). And it's Az's shadows reacting to Gwyn, not Az himself. But there's no real hint that Gwyn feels anything romantic for him. There's barely any interactions between them without linking it to her assault in Sangravah and her growth from it.
Besides Az's shadows reacting to G, and that ribbon moment that everyone deems so pivotal when Az realises what it means for the Valkyries (that he's had a hand in training) and maybe even reflects upon Gwyn's character development and therefore what the ribbon means for Gwyn - which made me feel proud too, and that's how I interpreted it - but I can't see an undeniable sign of it being a mating bond anywhere.
I thought at first that mayhaps he was giving her space because of the assault, but then the BC came and he went "It was too late to bank without appearing like he was running," and then "He wouldn't go so far as to call Gwyn a friend,". (ACOSF, Azriel's Bonus Chapter)
Let's not even mention the part where Gwyn was actually in danger (no matter how capable she was at that point), while Cassian was going ballistic at Nesta being in danger, but Az is all like "Let's go save Eris". Eris who both he and Cassian hates. Eris who Az himself nearly killed during the HLs' pre-war meeting (before he exhibited actual mate behaviour and sought and risked his life to save Elain who's not even his mate). But no, he gave just as much or even less action and reaction about Gwyn as Tamlin gave when Feyre was UTM.
And I was like...
How are they mates? Where's the mate behaviour every male - mated or not - in Prythian has exhibited throughout the books? Why did I keep seeing things about them being mates and endgame?
The only hint between them that I could even begin to consider it from is the second to last sentence in Az's BC.
"But Azriel tucked away the thought, consciously erasing the slight smile it brought to his face. Buried the image down deep, where it glowed quietly."
But I basically have the same interpretation about that as this post from @merymoonbeam. (Although I'm still neutral about the lightsinger theory, it's the most interesting take.)
Because again.
Why hasn't Azriel felt/shown anything or actively sought her out or even actively stayed away if he's known Gwyn since Sangravah?
If they're mates, shouldn't he have felt and shown something - like that glow - and Gwyn be the one to snap him out of his 'love' for Mor before he even had the chance to meet Elain? If he's just lonely and jealous of his brothers having mates then... Why has he barely noticed or sought out Gwyn who's supposed to be his mate?
What, he had to wait until his shadows reacted to her to even think about her?
I'm not an expert at analysing things - I wouldn't even say I'm good at interpreting things especially when I've got my rose-tinted glasses on, so/but I'm always open to being wrong and changing my mind accordingly.
But/so convince me with actual canon and not just your biased opinions, delusions, self-insertions, or ships.

hi, i’ve recently found your page & i’m obsessed with your writing! i have a request, i’ve had this idea for a while now.
we’re in the court of nightmares, eris walks up to the high lord & lady and the inner circle to ask nesta to dance BUT he sees reader instead. either feysand or nessian gets jealous, but reader does dance with eris. feysand or nessian gets so jealous that eris and reader gets interpreted. reader gets a reminder who they belong too. reader would be mated with whatever couple you pick.
i would like angst, smut (maybe a little bit darker), jealousy, just do your thing girl 👀
thank you, i can’t wait to read more of your writing 🖤🖤🖤
a reminder
Feysand x f!Reader
Summary: She played her part perfectly, laughing and smiling at all of the right moments. The High Lady watched as Eris grew more and more smitten through the entire dance. Then - his hand drifted lower, squeezing tightly around her hip. Rhys moved before she could.
Word Count: ~2k
Warnings: smut, almost all smut, a bit of angst, light bondage, d/s dynamics, impact play, jealousy, possessiveness, i think thats it?, minors dni!!
A/N: ah thank you! and thank you for the request!! this was fun to write & I loved this idea, sorry it's not too heavy on the angst,
She’d rarely gone to the Court of Nightmares, only on a few occasions. She hated the cesspool, but when Feyre and Rhys asked her this time, she agreed. You’ve always been exceptionally skilled at reading people, and body language - even without being a Daemati, and sometimes it came in handy when dealing with those extensively trained against your mates powers.
When the male they told her to keep an eye on, Eris, approached her, it was the perfect opportunity.
-
Feyre watched in amusement as Eris approached the Dais. Every time he visited, he would always seek out Nesta for a dance. She agreed - and she had a feeling her sister only did it to spark some jealousy in Cassian. They always disappeared shortly after, coming back with slightly flushed cheeks.
But, she watched as his eyes passed over Nesta - straight to y/n. They brought her here this time to try and get a read on Eris, without invading his mind outright. She didn’t notice his attention, scanning the room instead. Eris’s eyes gleamed as he approached her for a dance. Rhys went dangerously still next to her. Maybe it was a mistake disguising her scent, hiding the traces of them.
Y/n agreed with a smile, taking his hand and following him to the dance floor. They did tell her to act as if she had no close relation to them … It’s what we told her to do, she spoke to Rhys.
Not to dance with him, he growled. His bored mask was perfectly in place, but she felt the jealousy rolling through the bond. Her sentiment echoed his almost identically.
She played her part perfectly, laughing and smiling at all of the right moments. The High Lady watched as Eris grew more and more smitten through the entire dance. Then - his hand drifted lower, squeezing tightly around her hip. Rhys moved before she could.
-
She would admit Eris was a good dancer, and she was enjoying herself. Charming, funny, and trying a bit too hard. After the first dance, she’d gathered almost everything she needed to. Watching him for a bit longer, how he interacted with everyone else, would finish that up. But - he asked for another, and she felt rude turning him down. She forced her heartbeat and expression to remain steady as his hand drifted further down, right on her hip. Not obscenely low, but slightly suggestive. An invitation of sorts. Y/n knew this wouldn’t end well.
“May I?” Rhys’s voice sounded, cutting in, so smoothly nothing seemed off to any outsiders. He cut a sharp look to Eris, one that would make most Fae shake immediately. To his credit, Eris only gave a polite nod and made himself scarce.
Rhys’s hand tightened around her waist as he led her around the dance floor. Bruises would appear there tomorrow. He didn’t speak, but she could feel the anger, jealousy, and pure possession rolling through the bond, and immediately went on the defensive.
I wasn’t- she tried to send down the bond.
Not here. He replied sharply. She bit harshly on her bottom lip, nearly drawing blood. Her mate’s eyes gleamed as he caught the motion. We’ll be cutting our visit short.
I still need to -
No. She bristled as he cut her off again. I’m certain you have enough.
Y/n realized when she wouldn’t win a fight, and kept silent.
You need a reminder of who you belong to, he purred into her mind, showing her a preview of what would be coming later.
Arousal and fear flooded through her. A delicious but dangerous combination. Her heart started beating faster, tension coliling in her stomach … Rhys didn’t wait for the dance to end, he brought her back to the Dais, muttering a few instructions, and they left within minutes.
-
“What the hell was that?”
She was surprised Feyre raged at her first.
“It - it’s what you told me to do.” She stood still, her eyes darting between the two of them. They were both pissed. But she couldn’t quite figure out why, she’d done exactly what they wanted to her. It’s not her fault Eris asked her for a dance.
“You let him touch you.”
She fought the urge to roll her eyes. “I did no such thing, it was a dance, dance partners touch each other.”
Her words seemed to roll right over them. “You belong to us, don’t you?” Rhys’s tone was mild, and she saw all of the warnings signs - the gleam in his eyes, the way he held himself, how his fist clenched slightly.
Even as fear lanced through her, she ignored them. “Yes,” she did roll her eyes this time, and her filter completely disappeared. “It’s not my fault you wanted to hide my scent. You’re the ones keeping me like a secret, he never would’ve asked if you hadn’t.”
Rhys stalked over to her, every inch the predator. His fingers tilted her chin, “you need a reminder, don’t you darling?”
“I-”
Before she could answer, Feyre cut in, moving to stand shoulder to shoulder with Rhys. “I believe she does.”
Her hand trailed down her shoulder, catching her wrist in a vice-like grip, but she couldn’t look away from Rhys, not with his hand gripping her chin.
“Do you think he could please you?” she cooed, and she knew exactly what game they were playing.
Y/n shrugged casually, “I haven’t tried him.” She waited a few seconds, “but you never know unless -”
She didn’t get a chance to finish her sentence before Rhys’s arm wrapped around her waist, winnowing her to their bedroom. One thing she knows for certain about her mates, is they get very jealous, very easily. And that she usually loves the results of that jealousy. Feyre winnowed in a second later.
“Scared?” Rhys asked as she took a few steps back.
She was, but she wouldn’t admit that to him, and she shook her head.
“Foolish,” he tutted, and her clothes disappeared. Waves of magic bound her arms behind her back, before forcing her to her knees. She hit the floor with a soft thud, the carpet dulling some of the impact.
“Right where she belongs,” Feyre teased, circling around her. Her hands gently gripped her hair, tugging her head back to expose her neck. She struggled, trying to yank her head back, but the female’s grip was firm and unyielding. Still, she knew her safeword if she needed it.
She crouched behind her, her other hand gripping her throat. “Don’t make this any harder on yourself.”
“Where’s the fun in that?” She panted, and the small coil of arousal started building.
“I don’t know what else I expected from you.” Feyre let out an edged chuckle, and left a deceptively gentle kiss under her ear. “Look at him.”
Her eyes shot up, meeting Rhys’s - standing right above her with a smirk. Her body stiffened, she knows exactly what that expression means. “Stand up.”
She swallowed and Feyre released her grip on her hair. She rose to her feet, and he merely pointed at the edge of the bed. Y/n didn’t move, and his eyes narrowed. She felt the tension growing in the room. She’s playing a dangerous game, walking a very thin line.
“I won’t tell you again.”
“You never said anything,” Y/n gave him a sweet smile and he snarled, shoving her towards the bed. The push knocked the air out of her, but she was left bent over the bed, hinging at the hips and leaving herself completely exposed. They’d be able to see just how wet she is.
She feels Rhys’s body pressed over hers, his hands, gently brushing the hair away from her face as he kicks her legs further apart. He kisses the side of her neck, one hand between her shoulder blades, pushing her further into the mattress. “Remember Darling, you’ve earned his.” She shudders, having an idea of exactly what’s coming next. A silky rope replaces the magic tying her hands behind her back, winding tightly from her elbows to her wrist.
Then, his hand slaps down on her ass. She whimpers, but the first one isn’t that bad, it’s more of a warning.
She can tell Feyre is next, by the difference in size, and Feyre hadn’t been holding back - her body rocks against the bed. They don’t relent, each of them timing it perfectly until her ass and the backs of her thighs are burning, bright red. Tears stream down her face, leaving wet spots on the mattress below.
Her leg kicks up involuntarily, and Feyre shoves it back down with a delighted chuckle. It’s almost too much, her word is on the tip of her tongue, but just as she’s hurling towards her limit, it stops. Rhys’s body folds over hers, his pants painfully brushing against the raw skin. Feyre’s knelt next to her on the bed, tugging her head up. Y/n thinks she might kiss her, let her taste the wine she can smell, the sweet scent of her, but she kisses the tears on her cheeks, her tongue darting out to lick one. The sign of her submission, of them breaking her down in a way only they can. She’s whimpering as they tug her further up the bed, Feyre’s legs spread, guiding her down towards her pussy.
Gods, she loves the taste of her - sweet and musky at the same time, and doesn’t hesitate. She nips at the soft skin next to her thighs, dragging her tongue up between her folds. She wiggles at the bindings holding her back, but they don’t relent.
Her hips are tugged up. A strangled mix between a sob and moan left her as Rhys pushes into her - giving her no time to adjust before he sets a brutal pace.
Feyre presses into the back of her head, switching her focus, trying to put all of her attention on making her feel good. She alternates dragging her teeth over her clit, sucking, and giving small but firm kitten licks. All of the things she know will send Feyre over the edge.
Another smack on the bare skin of her ass draws a moan out of her - and Feyre, the vibrations finally sending the High Lady over the edge. Y/n doesn’t stop, but slows to small licks, bringing her down from the high.
Rhys’s hand snakes around to circle two fingers around her clit. She finds herself screaming, her head resting on Feyre’s thigh.
The female ran her fingers through her hair, “so good now,” she murmurs, “taking him so well my love.”
“A good little slut, just for us,” Rhys accentuates his words with another slap to her ass, squeezing her hips so tightly she knows she’ll bruise.
It doesn’t take long before that coil in her stomach tightens,
“Please, please please,” she chanted.
“Please what?” Rhys asked, with a cruel tone.
“F-finish, please let me cum,”
“Do you think she’s earned it?” He asked Feyre, who’s still stroking her hair.
She hums, “I think so.”
“You’re too soft,” He growls, but increases his speed, tilting his hips to hit that perfect spot.
She’s screaming - maybe their names, maybe to the Gods, she has no idea, but her body goes limp, Rhys still pounding until his cum fills her.
He yanks her back by her hair, wrapping an arm around her waist and pulling her flush to his chest. She feels the burn of him against her raw skin and relishes in it.
“Who do you belong to?” He nips at the space where her neck and shoulder meet.
“You, Feyre, both of you,” She mumbles, barely coherent. It seems it was enough to please him, because he releases her into Feyre’s arms, letting her mate hold her, stroke her hair, murmur sweet things to her that fly in one ear and out the other. Rhys returns with a rag to clean her. She’s blissed out, her eyes glazed over, and a satisfied sleepiness is starting to take over her senses. Still, they take the time to quickly bathe and clean her before tucking her into bed between them.

Thinking about Andor and violence, and the way the show remains constantly aware of the aggressor/aggressed relationship in every interaction between the empire and the rebels; both in terms of the way in which the rebels’ violence towards the empire is expressed in moments of combat, and the way the empire is shown to be constantly exercising their aggression outside moments of combat.
Luthen invokes it his first conversation with Cassian – “the way they laugh, the way they push to a crowd. That voice telling you to stop, to go, to move.” He doesn’t talk away they torture or kill, he talks about the way they manage people, and how that management is achieved through a constant press of mild but unrelenting violence. Then it’s shown, like the TIE fighters on Aldhani. The way they just blast through the mountains, the size of them against the characters in the foreground. The pilot who flies over them when they’re preparing for the heist has no reason to think they’re anything other than shepherds, but he still flies as close and fast over their heads as he possibly can because he’s noticed them and wants them to know it. He doesn’t shoot, probably isn’t allowed if the garrison wants to maintain its veneer of civility. But he’s noticed them, so now he has to let them know that he could hurt them. Just flies overhead. If he happens to clip someone? If one of them gets caught in the wake turbulence and thrown into a tree? Not like he’d ever know or care. He doesn’t need to, as long as they know. Can’t let them forget that they’re only alive at the empire’s mercy.
Or in the prison, the way the guards never shut the fuck up when moving prisoners around – it’s a constant poke-poke of stop, go, stop, move, stand there, walk, stop. The very first introduction to the prison we’re given, when the head guard makes this big flex of “how can it be we can stand here without guns, just wait til I show you” so he can demonstrate the floors - it’s a show of confidence that’s proven almost immediately to be bullshit, because the guards are incapable of interacting with the prisoners without constantly grabbing them, hefting their giant tasers, shouting and pushing because they’re terrified that if they stop for half a second the prisoner might feel like a person again, and that alone would be enough to pose a threat.
Meanwhile, the violence of the rebels is shown as an exact inverse. It’s a subtle thing – often they’re active aggressors right back, often they throw the first punch or fire the first shot, but they’re almost always in some kind of vulnerable position when they do so. In the very first fight, Cassian doesn’t square off. He tells the guards about the credits in his pocket so they’ll come close, stays passive until they’re in headbutting range, and then he attacks. When the prisoners are preparing the breakout, they stay on program until the last possible moment, weapons hidden behind their backs as they comply. When Cinta stabs the ISB agent, she manages it because she backs up into an enclosed space and lets him corner her there. He never once considers that he’s not in control of the situation. His hands are down by his sides as he looms over her, and he doesn’t think to check where hers are until the knife’s already in his gut.
To me it’s a stunning textual representation of Nemik’s statement that tyranny requires constant effort. Think about Syril entering a random house during his manhunt and shooting at the first thing that moves, looking stone-cold terrified even through he’s the one with the big gun and the warrant, versus Cassian and Luthen escaping in the same episode by setting off a decoy first, allowing pretence of rolling over without a fight so they can slip away unimpeded. Think of the way the riot sparks off; not as soon as Maarva’s recording ends, not when the cop makes a paltry attempt at cutting off the transmission with his jacket, but when he gives up on nonviolence after that attempt fails and just kicks over the whole droid, even though he probably knows it’ll be the thing to blow the keg. He’s culturally incapable of doing anything else. Think of Wilmon, bringing a bomb to the riot that only works as well as it does because the empire showed up with crates on crates of grenades and then left them just sitting out in the street.
Wherever the rebels succeed, it’s where the empire fails to check what’s under the hammer before they swing. They rely on a constant wall of aggression and never bother to check the cracks in the foundation. Cassian says so – why would the prison guards bother spying on the prisoners when all they have to do is turn the floors on twice a day? Why would the garrison defend against an attack when they’re so sure no one’s stupid enough to try? Hell, fucking Dedra says so, spends the first half of the season clanging the alarm bell waiting for the rest of the ISB to catch on to what she’s already noticed.
The show never pretends that the empire’s violence isn’t overwhelming and devastating and almost inescapable, but what it does do is show the utility of taking moment to breathe. Plant your feet. Wait for your moment to strike. You don’t need to rely on lucky shots if you’re smart about where you aim.
Idk I just think it’s neat.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Aw, angel,” Azriel cooed. He had your forearm grasped gently between his two hands as he frowned at your latest bruise. “How’d you get this one?”
You blushed under his careful inspection, though this was hardly a rare occurrence. “I tripped near the top of the stairs.”
He smiled, still examining your arm. “My poor darling,” he tutted. You laughed at the fussing but blushed harder as he bent down to place a soft kiss on your hurt skin.
Azriel was the sweetest mate in the world, always showing such patience and concern for you despite your clumsy nature. Scratches and bruises would litter your skin and heal like the coming and going of the seasons, yet he seemed to always catch onto every newcomer with his keen eye. “Does it still hurt?”
Your eyes met his. “Not really.”
“I’m glad.” He still smiled, and you returned it as he took your hand, leading you to the door.
The first time you’d met him, you lost your footing and scraped your knee. Azriel never lets you live it down, always talking about how you’d ‘fallen for him at first sight.’ You scoff and roll your eyes every time he brings it up, but deep down the story makes your heart swell with love.
You let your mind wander as Azriel bunched you up in his arms and began flying to the House where Nesta and Cassian were hosting a family dinner. You’d always argued that being mated to him was a fluke; you loved him with all your heart but sometimes wondered how you’d scored a mate with the fluidity and stealth of a feline while you stumbled your way through life. If you ever mentioned this in front of Feyre, she just shakes her head and says you bring out the softness in Az.
Azriel descended upon reaching the house, setting you down with the gentleness he always beheld for you. “Y/N?”
You craned your neck to face him. “Hm?”
“I asked if you were alright.”
You blinked. “Oh, sorry. Yes, why?”
“You just seem a little distracted.”
“Oh. I guess I zoned out a bit on the flight.” You offered a reassuring smile.
He studied you for another beat. “Okay. We can leave whenever you want. You know that, right baby?”
You squeezed his hand affectionately. “Yes, Az. I know.”
“I’m just saying. If you don’t feel so good—”
You shook your head. “I’m good, I want to see our friends.” You tugged him down by the hand and he obliged. You wrapped your arms around his neck and placed a kiss on his cheek. “I love you.”
“I love you too, angel.”
You shivered, unwinding yourself from him lest you prematurely take him up on that offer. “There you two are,” a voice redirected your attention to the entrance where Cassian came to greet you. He enveloped you in a hug. When he pulled back, he eyed your bruise, making you blush.
“Cassian, stop hurting my mate,” Azriel interjected playfully.
“Ah, yes. My bad,” Cassian immediately jested back.
“See, you already bruised her,” Azriel added. You laughed at their teasing.
“She’s just so fragile, I can’t help it,” Cassian shrugged his shoulders in exaggeration.
“Shut up,” you laughed.
Cassian nudged you with his shoulder. “Let’s go inside before you trip off the balcony.” You rolled your eyes as Azriel chuckled.
Inside, you took your places at the table. You didn’t miss the way Azriel covered the table corner with his hand as you passed by it, a habit he always minded.
As the meal ended, the group moved to the lounge. You languidly watched your friends interact. Feyre brought out her latest painting per Cassian’s request, gesturing with effortless elegance as she explained the inspiration behind it. You caught Rhys watching her, beaming with pride, likely at the charisma she exuded even in her relaxed state. You sat a little straighter.
Nesta mentioned she started going to a dance studio. “The teacher allowed me to advance to a higher level last week.”
“Because of her curves,” Cassian smirked.
“Because of my lines,” Nesta corrected, smacking her mate.
“Lines?” you asked.
“A dancer’s physical silhouette,” Nesta explained.
“That’s what I just said,” Cassian quipped.
Nesta ignored him. “Well-controlled poses make better lines.”
“What are you controlling for?” you asked.
Nesta waved a hand. “It’s supposed to be grace and rhythm.”
You hummed thoughtfully. The conversations moved on, but you fell silent, distracted by a distinct sense of mismatch gnawing at your gut. You felt noticeably at odds with the sophistication of your family surrounding you; warriors, courtiers, lords, and ladies.
Lost in thought, you gasped lightly at the sudden sensation in your chest. Admiration and comfort fluttered down the bond, making you relax your shoulders. You looked over to where Azriel sat and found him watching you intently. You hadn’t realized you’d been projecting your emotions to him. Before you could reassure him, Azriel stood up. “We’re calling it a night,” he announced to the group. “Thank you all for the dinner.” He took your hand to help you to your feet.
Others began rising in agreement, prompting a flurry of hugs and kisses to erupt. Azriel waited for you to finish; he was patient until he wasn’t. You laughed as he unceremoniously tugged you out of an embrace, throwing parting words over your shoulder while your friends laughed at Az stealing you away. Outside, he turned to face you, smiling warmly. You looked at him from beneath lowered lashes.
“Hi, angel.”
“Hi, Az.”
“How are we feeling.” He spoke softly.
“I’m good.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah,” you said. You both knew he knew better, but he was sparing you. You fidgeted with your fingers under his inspecting gaze. “Sorry to have, um, pulled you out of the gathering.”
“Don’t be sorry. I told you we could leave if you weren’t feeling well,” he reassured. You looked up at him and found that endless patience of his. He placed his hands on your waist and pulled you gently to his body, which you happily folded yourself into. “Let’s go home,” he murmured into your crown. You hummed in agreement, thankful for the reprieve granted by your perceptive mate.
~
You found yourself in the kitchen after changing. Azriel wanted to go over some reports for the next day, though you suspected it was to give you some time to sort through your thoughts. You and Azriel always respected each others’ space to open up at your own pace.
You had an idea, wanting to make Azriel something to show your appreciation for him, to dote on him how he always doted on you. It was silly perhaps, but you combined ingredients to make a blueberry pie (for his siphons, of course). It was late into the night, but you had your mind made. You hummed as you worked, feeling a bit better. This is what a refined spouse would do for her mate, wasn’t it?
You finally placed the skillet into the oven and began cleaning up, intending to surprise Azriel. You did the dishes as the pie baked, feeling your tiredness catch up to you, wondering if Az already went to sleep. You hurried at that thought, turning to check on the pie. As you rushed over, you opened the oven to take a look—gasping as you lost your footing suddenly.
You were instantly falling as your foot slid on something. You grabbed onto the nearest surface to steady yourself—recoiling on reflex before you could register what happened. You slammed into the nearby cabinet as you hit the floor. The leg that lost its balance was splayed beneath the open oven door. You cursed as glaring pain scorched through your hand—the hand that recoiled because—
Because you’d grabbed onto the inside of the oven door in your fall, burning your hand.
“Fuck,” you whimpered in pain, cradling your arm to your chest. Azriel would surely be here soon due to the sound. You closed the oven door quickly to keep him from seeing, knowing he had a history of this injury.
You checked under your foot, finding a sizeable chunk of butter there, the culprit that caused the slipping and sliding. You exhaled raggedly as tears stung your eyes, in pain or defeat, you didn’t know. Sure enough, Azriel came into the kitchen, rushing over immediately.
“Y/N, what happened? Are you alright?” He crouched near you, frowning at your hurt state.
You sniffled. “I just fell.” You hid your burnt hand behind you
“Aw, angel,” he spoke softly, cupping your face and wiping your tears as they fell. “Come here,” he said, offering you his hands to get you off the floor. You couldn’t take them because of your burn, so you paused. He noticed this, eyes shifting to your arm hidden behind your back.
“Can I see?” he asked gently. You shook your head. He frowned, but his shadows wafted to his head, whispering in his ear. His eyes widened suddenly, and you felt panic spike and then cease down the bond. “You burnt your hand,” he breathed.
You nodded apprehensively. He gently placed his hand on your elbow to pull your hidden arm forward, which you allowed. He cradled your arm at your elbow and wrist. You opened your hand to let him see. There were red splotches on your fingers where you’d grabbed the door. Azriel winced. “Let’s get this bandaged,” he said.
He scooped you into his arms and carried you over to the table. He filled a bowl with cool water and placed your hand into it, letting it absorb the heat out of the burn, greatly reducing your pain. He wiped your tears and kissed your forehead. He gently pulled your hand out of the water and began bandaging it with expert care, standing between your legs as he worked.
When he finished, he kissed the back of your hand and placed it gently into your lap. “Does that feel a little better?”
You nodded.
“Wanna tell me how you got that burn?”
You swallowed. “I was baking a pie for you.”
His eyes widened slightly, lips quirking upwards. “For me? Why?”
“I wanted to do something nice for you because you always take such good care of me,” you said, waving your newly bandaged hand in demonstration.
Adoration washed over his face. He huffed a laugh, caught off guard. “Thank you, angel.” He enveloped you in an embrace, burying his head into your neck. You breathed him in. “You don’t have to repay me for any of this,” he spoke lowly into your ear. He pulled away, still taking you in with that reverence. “This isn’t burdensome,” he added.
You shrugged, still frustrated with yourself. “I’m sorry for always making you bandage me up and everything,” you said, feeling your emotions rise again.
Azriel shook his head. “Don’t apologize. I love getting to take care of you.”
You looked down as your tears returned.
“Why are you crying, baby?” Azriel lifted your chin up, frowning.
You took a deep breath. “Because. I’m sick of this.”
“Sick of what?”
“It’s just—it’s embarrassing, the clumsiness. You’re all so graceful without even having to try. You deserve a mate who isn’t such a fumbling mess.”
Realization dawned on him. “Ah,” he said. “Is that why you were feeling off at the dinner today?”
You nodded. “I know it’s dumb, but just—you know, the other girls, they’re so smooth and classy.”
Az strokes the sides of your thighs soothingly. “It’s not dumb. It’s okay to have concerns. And you’re wrong, you’re not a fumbling mess. I couldn’t ask for a more perfect mate.”
You felt his unrestricted love flow through the bond, soothing you enough to stop crying. But you continued. “I just feel like a sore thumb sometimes.”
He shook his head. “Everyone adores you. They can’t get enough of you. I thought that was obvious,” he smiled.
You believed him, feeling his sincerity in your chest. You returned his smile.
“Is that what this is? You just want to hear me tell you how much they like you?” Azriel teased.
You laughed, making Azriel smile wider.
“I understand this can be frustrating, but please don’t ever feel like it’s an issue. I love you the way you are, even if you’re constantly falling for me.”
You rolled your eyes, still laughing. His gaze sobered a bit. “You don’t need to be any more or less graceful. I’ve adored you from the start, I won’t stop now. I love getting to dote on you. Don’t you like getting doted on?”
You smiled. “Yes Az, I like it.”
“I knew it. You’re faking the clumsiness.”
You laughed again, brighter this time. He laughed too, wrapping his arms around you. He kissed you deeply, pulling you closer to him. You kissed him back, feeling your worries melt away. You let all your love flow through the bond as he kissed you, making him shudder at the feeling. He leaned forward, prompting you to bend back, but you remembered something. You tried to break away from the kiss, but he’d hardly let up.
“Az,” you smiled against his mouth.
“Yeah,” he breathed, making no attempt to stop.
“Az, the pie.”
“Fuck the pie,” he said.
You laughed, pushing him lightly on the shoulders, which he regretfully granted. He took a deep, steadying breath. When you tried to move around him, he pushed you back in place and went to retrieve it himself. He placed it on the counter and made his way back to you.
“This was very thoughtful of you,” he said huskily, looking at you with a hunger for something other than the pastry. He bent forward and laced an arm beneath your knees; you squealed as he suddenly stood, hauling you over his shoulder. He gave your ass a smack as he began taking you to the bedroom. “I was also thinking of showing my appreciation by having something sweet.”
