(She's) Off The Track

Y/N is pregnant, not allowed to race, and she's pissed about it

When the video went up on everybody's social media, the fans panicked. It was similar, eerily so, to Sebastian Vettel's retirement announcement.

But she couldn't be retiring, could she? She was only in her mid twenties and hungry for a win. There was no way she was retiring already.

She sat there in the video, a white wall behind her, and stared. For a full two and a half seconds she said nothing, but it felt so much longer. Anxious fans waited chewing on their nails as they waited to see what was going on.

To Y/N, the person in the video, it felt like she was doing one of those youtuber apology videos. Well, this was a severe and continuous lapse in her judgement, but it had ended in something wonderful.

"It's with regret that I sit here before you all to tell you that I will not be partaking in the rest of the Formula One season," she said and breathed out, like a massive weight had been lifted from her chest. "In my place Liam Lawson will be driving in the second seat of the AlphaTauri."

"We thank you all for your continuous support and look forward to seeing all of you when I return to the grid next year."

She never said why, never let the fans know why she was going to be absent from the track. The fans still saw her everywhere, though. In the paddock, cheering on her replacement, or in the background of her boyfriends streams.

"This is your fault," she said as she sat on the beanbag behind Lando, placing malteasers into her mouth. "If it weren't for you, I would still be racing."

Although she sat it, it wasn't serious. It wasn't his fault at all. Actually, she didn't want to blame this on anybody; it was a welcomed surprise.

It had been a good sixteen weeks since she last sat in a Formula One car. There one race that Y/N wasn't at, leaving all the fans speculating where she could be. And then there was a two week gap between the races.

The next race she attended, something was clearly different. Lando held her hand, staying close to her while Martin Brundle interviewed her. He walked her to the AlphaTauri garage, something he didn't normally do, and didn't leave until she was being safely escorted by Daniel Ricciardo.

But the most noticeable difference was the baby bump was she sporting.

SHE'S PREGNANT!! said everybody online. It was maybe the best kept secret of the paddock.

Even though the secret was out, Y/N and Lando still didn't address it. If any interviewer tried to ask about the pregnancy, Lando would walk her away or place himself between her and the interviewer, protective fiancé mode engaged.

When the last grand prix she was allowed to attend before she had to stop flying rolled around, Y/N spent more time than usual in front of the car that should have been hers. Her hand rested on her stomach as she looked at the number 40 car. It should have been number 69, her driver number.

"Next year," she said through a sigh as Liam approached. He offered her a smile, the kind that said he sympathised with her.

Towards the end of the season she had to stop attending. There were only two races left and Lando was predicted to be on the podium for all of them.

And he was on the podium. She was forced to watch it from their television at home. She celebrated with a glass of water and a nap.

Y/N went into labour at the start of winter break. It was lucky, actually, that Lando was home and able to rush her to the hospital. He held her hand through it all and, soon, their baby boy was crying in his arms.

Ten months went by. Y/N and Lando spent the entirety of the winter break as a family, caring for their son, introducing him to the family (the grid family and their actual families) and celebrating firsts with him. When they brought him home, when he first slept in his crib, his first trip in the car, first trip in the zoo, taking him around the marina.

Lando took pictures of it all. His jpg account was full of these pictures, as long as they didn't show their sons face.

His first introduction to the Formula one world came when he was just ten months old, at the Brazilian Grand Prix. Before Y/N and Lando left their hotel, it had been a big debate over whether he was going to be wearing a McLaren onesie or an AlphaTauri onesie (Lando had won and they walked him around in a bright orange onesie).

The grid loved meeting Emmet "Chuck" Norris (Daniel thought he was really funny with that one). Emmets favourite people were Danny and Max, who had worked together to teach him to respond to his name of Chuck.

He sat in his parents cars and that was when Y/N and Lando knew, he was going to be a racer.

(a/n): it's late at night, and I just wrote this, and I'm really, really sleepy. there might be multiple mistakes, grammar, and spelling, but HEY. the tension is still there! <3

IT HAD BEEN almost five days since everyone got informed that you were down with the flu. Michael Schumacher's beloved daughter was a concern about pretty much everyone in the paddock. Every single person cared deeply about you and Mick. Everybody knew that.

You got quite a few messages and texts from the drivers and team members in the past few days. You answered with polite, brief responses and made sure everyone knew you were just fine with the necessary drugs and medicine prescriptions.

The truth was that you had been feeling okay since a couple of days ago, but chose not to tell anyone. Rest on a bed all day was cool.

Opening your phone, you entered Instagram and wrote a brief thank you text to Daniel Ricciardo, who wished you a fast recovery. Scrolling through the app, you detected a post on your insta feed that was referring to Sebastian Vettell.

Oh, he was tour childhood crush.

Everybody freaking knew that.

You remembered that in an interview a few years ago with your father, a reporter had asked you whether or not you'd like to race for a F1 team and become a driver in the future. You response was fast and was definitely written in history. It almost immediately went viral, and people still talked about it on social media, leading to multiple fans shipping you and the famous world champion.

"No, I don't think I'm going to be a racing driver. But I'll marry one anyway, so it doesn't really matter." The spot played like a old cassette in your mind. A wide grin formed on your father's face and the reporter returned to you and lowered the microphone to reach your tiny height. You were barely 12 years old at that time.

"Who are you referring to? Lewis Hamilton? Do you like him, huh? British, humorous, handsome! He's totally so charming!"

"No, no, no, no!" Your father, Michael, bent over and picked you up in his strong arms. "I'm pretty sure the husband she's talking about is Vettell." He laughed again and you were so confused at the cameras and microphones and tons of people around you.

You were absolutely serious about craving to marry that man. He was something truly angelic to you, even though your innocent 12-year-old mind couldn't fathom how a real marriage worked.

"Oh, I get it! Blondes are better anyway!" The red-head reporter yelled and thanked you for the interview, before moving to the next driver.

You also remembered clearly the very first time you learned about Sebastian dating some girl.

A few of your dad's friends were gathered at your house, along with Sebastian. They talked about some weird strategies you couldn't analyze and had a great time together, but suddenly a question was fired at Sebastian, gaining your full attention.

"Seb, what's up with that blonde you've been going out with since last month?" A guy asked, and your gaze darkened. No one really noticed you eyeing the men behind the kitchen table. But that's what you wanted anyway.

"Who? Hannah? Oh, she seems okay, I guess." He took a sip from his bottle of beer and went on, his eyes lingering around the room. "She's hot, supportive and... not really smart but I don't mind, it's not like I'm going to marry her anyway."

They all laughed at Sebastian's words and you waited until most of the guys moved outside, near the pool in order to prepare the barbecue.

Approaching Sebastian, his eyes automatically landed up on you as he smiled.

"Hey, there, little one!" Sebastian greeted. You hated it when he called you little one. You were 17 at that time. In puberty and almost in adulthood.

"Don't call me that, Seb! I'm not 10 anymore!" You laughed and you got on your knees in front him, next to the couch.

He bent over and applied a peck on your forehead, just like he always adored to do. It was one of his special ways to show his platonic affection to you.

"I'm sorry, sweetheart." He smiled and got up, walking to the kitchen. He came back a few moments later and handed you an orange juice.

"I'd prefer the beer you're holding, thank you very much." You pushed the plastic carton of juice away and got up to grab the beer from Seb's hands. He tossed it away immediately.

"Your father would kill me, love."

Oh, love.

What a word to hear from his beautiful, full lips.

You bite your lips. Hard.

Your female hormones had been raging since a couple of years ago due to puberty. And Sebastian Vettel was so not helping with that.

You formed a fake sad face, and he sat to the couch again.

You'd love to sit in his lap right now. You used to do that when you were a little. You would wrap your hands around his neck... and stare at his baby blue eyes forever.

If the desire to sit in Seb's lap was a drug, you were totally and undoubtedly a drug addict.

But you couldn't do it now. Sebastian wouldn't let something like that happen.

A few moments later, you were sat beside him on the couch, drinking enormous sips from the juice Seb had offered you.

"It's tasty." You told him after you caught his gaze upon you.

"Um... I guess so."

You blinked a couple of times.

"Soooo... you have a girlfriend?" Your voice was steadier than you thought it'd come out.

"I don't know." He thought for a second. "It's complicated."

You automatically dragged the thin material of your cozy dress lower on your thighs when you caught his eyes traveling their for a tiny, brief moment.

"Are you in love with her?" You asked without hesitating and ignoring the previous incident.

"In love?" He repeated. "Jesus, no. I don’t think I've ever been in love before."

You didn't know if the scorching burning in your chest was a good thing. You were glad he hadn't been in love with anyone before, but simultaneously you weren't.

"Have you?" Sebastian's question caught you off guard.

"Who? Me?" Yes, you wanted to yell at him. But didn't. "No. I'm almost 17 and barely had any experiences in my love life."

"That's not certainly a bad thing." He mumbled, drinking from his beer, his lips almost immediately absorbing the liquid.

Germans loved beers. Sebastian Vettel was no exception to that rule.

"What? Having zero experiences in that area?" You asked.

It wasn't like you hadn't been kissed before. You had. Twice. By two different boys. But nothing compared to the love life other teenagers had the chance of experiencing at your age.

"Yes. It's a good thing, to say at least." His eyes were so threatening. Like there was a hidden meaning behind them.

But maybe it was just something your mind created due to the fact that... this man... oh, Gosh... you had never desired anything or anyone like him.

"Why?" You looked at him and his gaze found yours.

"You should wait for the right one." He smiled simply.

You looked at him and wanted to say that he was all you wanted. But you fucking couldn't. And that was drowning your feelings for him in deep, dark oceans.

"The heart wants what it wants." You pronounced, and Seb didn't quite get your words.

He didn't want to anyway. He knew damn well that your feelings about him were intense since you were a little kid.

The obsessed, recless, lovesick teen. That's what you thought Seb would describe you as. Little did you know he had the exact opposite opinion of you.

Seb was your frustration.

He thought you were like a daughter to him at that time. Little did he know you'd do anything to keep your promise in the future.

Bottled-up feelings. Intense feelings, unexplained issues. He caused that to you. All of it. And he didn't even know.

You were almost 19 now.

Age was by your side and the age gap between you and Seb wasn't that intense. Only 11 years. You had met multiple couples before with even bigger age difference and they lived with it in happiness and with pride.

Closing your eyes, you inhaled a big breath.

You felt greedy, insatiable.

Seb continued being pretty much the number one reason why you still had a good opinion of the masculine sex but you were careful and avoided showing it to everyone anymore. Paparazzi and the media always tended to make things even bigger.

It was just a few minutes before noon when a knock on the door sounded like a thunderous lightning in your sensitive ears. You hadn't communicated with a singe soul in a couple of days because you wouldn't risk infecting anyone else with the virus, even though you already feeling extremely better.

Beforing bothering to hear you climbing out of the bed, a familiar figure of a male swung the door open and closed it sat afterwards, swaying the keys in his hands.

"Seb?" Your voice was weak as you got out of the coziness of your bed and approached the door. "How the hell do you have my keys?"

The German man turned to you and gestured to be sat on the bed once again, as if you were so fragile and threatened to break just because of a silly virus. Sebastian was so dramatic. But you didn't. complain as you gained your soft spot on the mattress again because his white button-up shirt blurt your thoughts and your vision. He had rolled the light fabric on his wrists, highlighting even more his rough hands.

"I asked Mick to lend them to me so I could pass by here and check up on my favorite girl."

His words buzzed in your ears.

What did he just say?

He used to call you random nicknames, some of them cute and others... kind of silly, but 'my favorite girl'?

That was too much for your complicated mind to analyze.

Sebastian sat down opposite of you.

As he faced you and said absolutely nothings, his state felt scorching. Like a burning flame, attempting to read your thoughts, which were too hard to be hidden between the curtains of your eyelashes.

You had always known he could read you like an open book. And you always hated that exceptional ability of his.

Sometimes, he could unearth thoughts in you that no one else could. Not even your father, nor your brother, and sometimes not even you...

"How are you feeling, (y/n)?" His soft smile faded, blue, intense eyes focused on you, eyeing you from head to toes as if he could detect any physical pain just by observing your body.

"How do I look?" You fired back, without hesitation.

You didn't mean to sound flirtatious at all. But... oh, well, the look on Sebastian's face read something entirely different...

You were kind of mad at him that he chose to pass by your apartment without calling or messaging you first. You tried to make him gather that without saying it, but your tone didn't come out the way that you wanted it to.

"If you ask me, you don't look ill at all." Sebastian crossed his arms, his veins popping out of the white fabric. "You look... I don't know..." He gave in, eyes traveling everywhere in the room but you.

You felt a warm wave of air coming your way from the opened windows, so you chose to unzip your thin cardigan a little bit more. Your grey sweatpants were too hot for you at the moment, but the idea of changing into something more loose didn't occur to you earlier.

"Sebastian, I look like a fucking sloth that's been eating leafy greens, rice and pasta for five days in a row!" You laughed but the blond man didn't seem to be amused by your humorous comment. When you faced his cold state, your expression transformed into something more serious. "Why didn't you call before visiting?"

"The answer is too simple and you're too smart to even ask." He shrugged, annoyed. "Because I know you wouldn't let me come."

You hadn't seen Sebastian like that never before. He seemed... different. He always used to laugh with you, enjoy some movies, play video games or boarding games with you for fun...

But now...

He looked so changed and you can't understand why.

"Why wouldn't I let you come, Seb?"

He took a deep, deep breath before answering. "Because you're just as stubborn as me. I wouldn't let you come and visit me while I'm sick either. Even though you--"

Your phone buzzed with a notification on the nightstand, causing Seb's speech to come to a hault.

Another notification popped up and the screen illuminated once again.

One more and then another one...

You stretched your whole body and grabbed your device. Glancing at the screen, you read five unanswered messages from Lando.

This guy tries to catch up with you always when the time isn't right.

Sebastian got up from the chair near your desk. "Who is it?" He asked, trying to keep the coolness in his tone.

"A friend."

"Is it Norris?" Seb snapped.

You instantly looked up from your screen. "How the hell do you know Norris texts me?"

Sebastian smirked and took a seat close to you on the bed. But he was still too far. You needed him closer to make you forget about your frustration with him.

"A spend three quarters of my day with your brother."

"Oh, Mick, you're such a traitor." You muttered to yourself as you shoved your phone under the sheets.

"He just cares about you. We all do." Seb seemed to hesitated for his upcoming words. "You'll always be our best girl."

Our?

Fuck. It felt like he tried so hard to hide his thoughts.

But they say that the eyes are the window to your soul.

"Seb, are you flirting with me?" You shot, keeping your voice calm and steady.

"You want me to stop?" His answer was instant, causing your entire body and face to redden.

Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.

You'd been waiting for this moment almost 20 years and now... that it was finally happening, you didn't know what to do.

"No," you muttered. "But I expected you to do something more than that. You were always the brave one, remember?"

Whatever it took to fulfill your eternal dream.

Seb stood up and did something you never expected him to do. Even though every part of you craved this moment to come in many dreams.

He kneeled in front you.

Fuck.

His blue eyes were the most beautiful thing you had ever seen. "Seb, what are you--"

"Open your legs for me, love." He murmured, looking up at you with his fingers genrly pressing on your bare thigh.

You felt your cheeks redden. Again.

It felt insane how instant your body's reaction was to his words and touch. As if it had a mind of its own.

Seb's voice forced you back to reality when you realized you stared at him speechless. "I won't repeat myself."

You shivered and opened up your legs for him, welcoming his warm and long fingers.

"You won't kiss me?" Your voice was barely audible.

"I'm not going to make it that easy for you, babe."

"W-what do you mean?"

A smirk appeared. "I suppose you'll have to beg for it."

summary: she’s not used to october being as warm as it is when she joins daniel in perth for thanksgiving. the heat is unbearable, and daniel has a fun way to cool her down.

prompt: temperature play

pairing: daniel ricciardo x reader

warnings: ice play, lots of giggling and laughter, daniel is incapable of taking anything seriously.

"jesus, danny, it's just at hot inside as it was on the patio! at least in here there's a bit of a breeze from the fan!" she groaned, falling back against the sofa, sweat-marred tank top plastered to her skin.

she considered herself lucky she was wearing pumpkin orange and not white, otherwise everybody in a ten mile radius could probably see her bra.

danny laughed, taking the shopping bags into the kitchen. "is it not usually this hot in october back in canada?"

"uh, no? there was one year it snowed in october. like, on halloween. canadian weather doesn't make sense, usually our octobers are just wall-to-wall rain."

"sorry, sugar. i can't control the weather, unfortunately." danny hummed, opening the freezer to grab two mr. freeze ice lollys.

his lover was still lying on the couch, arm thrown over her closed eyes while she used her free hand to dan her face. with a devilish grin on his face, danny sat next to her on the couch, eyes trained on where her shirt had ridden up to show off her midriff.

holding the freezie carefully, he pressed the wrapper against her stomach, the thin layer of ice melting almost as soon as it touched her belly. she shrieked, jumping slightly. daniel laughed, moving to pull the freezie away before she gripped his wrist, pulling the coldness back to her skin.

she rolled her eyes at the aussie, shuffling so her crossed feet rested on her boyfriend's lap. "i'm annoyed at you for making a joke out of this, but it feels nice. refreshing. it's cooling me down."

danny raised an eyebrow. she looked up at him through her eyelashes, blinking slightly before she realized that daniel had the look.

and god help anyone who got between daniel and his love when he had the look.

danny pulled away from her, taking the mr.. freeze with him as he went back to the open kitchen, large windows letting in the light and illuminating his silhouette like some kind of greek god or adonis.

"babe, what are you doing?"

"close the blinds and take off you clothes!" danny shouted back. "just trust me on this! leave your bra and panties on, though!"

she rolled her eyes, forcing herself to get up from her position of rest on the couch. she was glad to get out of her sweat-stained clothes anyways, flipping the white blinds closed in one twist of the plastic tab before she began to undress.

danny came back into the living room with a tray of ice cubes in his hand and a devious look on his face. because he had an idea. a very good, definitely not sexual idea. read: the idea was almost entirely sexual.

he beckoned y/n back over the couch, instructing her to lay down and get comfortable. out of the corner of her eyes, she kept trying to give danny a questioning look, hoping he would tell her literally anything at all.

"patience, pretty girl." he grinned, popping an ice cube out of the silicone tray. "good things come to those who wait. literally."

she playfully stuck her tongue out as daniel settled in next to her, placing the ice cube on her burning skin, gently pushing it over her belly button. he was attentive, watching the way goosebumps rose on her skin, the small trail of water that the ice cube left behind as he chauffeured it around on the edge of his finger.

the way she sucked in a breath, biting her lip to stop from whining.

he smiled roguishly, bringing his head down towards her stomach and sucking the ice cube into his mouth. at the feeling of his warm lips contrasting with the icy cold of the ice cube on her stomach, she gasped, arching into danny. he smiled against her, using his tongue to push the cube around her skin.

she moaned at the sensation, an honest to god moan. “oh, danny.” she breathed, tangling her hands in his hair, and giving one of his curls a tug.

daniel moaned, the ice cube slipping out of his mouth and sliding right off her skin and onto the couch. they both laughed as daniel reached for another one.

“is this making it better, pretty girl?”

“much.” she hummed, running her thumb over his cheekbones. “but I need more. I need you to eat me out.”

daniel laughed before softly kissing her thigh, running his cold tongue over her skin, watching her lips curve upwards in a smile.

"my pretty girl." he mumbled, snaking his chilled fingers underneath her cotton panties, slowly teasing them down her legs. "such a good fucking girl for me."

he drew back, making a show out of dramatically placing the ice cube into his mouth before leaning back in, running the ice cube gently over the skin around her entrance.

"fuck, danny."

"the condensation from the ice cube was mixing with the evidence of her arousal, making it almost impossible for daniel to keep a grip on it. the ice cube slipped out of his mouth a few times before he gave up, allowing it to fall to the couch cushions.

"so worked up for me, sugar. yeah, you're so wet for me that i can't even hold the ice cube against you. slips right outta my mouth."

he couldn;t wait any longer, pressing his tongue up against where she ached for him most. she let out a strangled moan, thighs threatening to close around his head.

daniel smiled against her, ready to immediately shower her with all the praise she could need.

and there would be lots and lots of praise, because it was going to be a very long afternoon spent tucked between the thinnest sheets in his linen closet and showing her all the ways in which he loved her and her sexy body.

"You look cute today" I stop looking to my phone to look at Lando. Well, that's new

"You say it like it's weird of me using a dress"

"It is" He smiled

"I'm gonna ignore you from now on"

"It's not common, even when we go to parties you use jeans, so, I have a point"

"The real point here is that we are in the middle of the summer and if I put a raw egg on the floor it will cook"

"But what about the jet? It's going to be cold in there"

"I have my enchanté sweater" Lando made a loud gasp "It has cute peaches and it's purple"

"I sent you a full box of my merch last month, mean"

"Cry about it, Daniel thinks that I have a pretty face so everybody is going to see me in the new enchanté collection"

"Really?"

"Yeah, I asked him months ago, even I helped with the design of one of the pieces"

"Well, congratulations. You should look who's coming" I turn my head and a very smiley Daniel Ricciardo was walking to our direction

"You knew?"

"I invited him to flight with us, I know how important you were for him these moths away from racing so I..." I interrupted him with a hug and a kiss in the cheek

"You're the best, Norris" Lando didn't expect that reaction, now he can feel his cheeks burning

I got up and run to Daniel. After Silverstone, I decided to wait for Danny's test with Pirelli. After he finished a call from Helmut Marko was all we need to know that he got the seat for the rest of the season. Even if I have a good relationship with the australian, I organized a few days off with Lando, Max, Nyck, some frineds and myself to let Nyck know that we're his friends and friends support each other.

"It's been only a week, you know?" He said laughing

"I don't care, I'm happy. These past 7 months had been like going on a rollercoaster over and over again so, you know. Even if it's AlphaTauri, you have your way back home, you never left, you just have to travel the world over in search of what you need and then return to find it"

"I know Char and thank you for everything" His eyes got glossy so I hug him "Do you like my design?" He said ponting to his sweater

"No, it is..." I gasp

"Yes, kiddo. Tommorrow a million boys are going to see you wearing the new collection"

"Ha ha, funny, you know that I have my eyes on someone"

"Someone a bit brainless. Hey Lando, I guess you were waiting for me"

"Yeah, let's go"

Once in the airplane

"I have to say that this is a very important moment and pretty faces like yours should be able to broke the internet" I said taking Lando's camera and pinting to them "New wallpapers for your fans"

They looked at each other and start with their goofiness and well... I guess they really missed each other. Maybe Carlos and I have competition.

"We are pretty good looking guys, you know?" Daniel said with a smile on his face

"Even you could use us as your wallpaper" said Lando

"Good offer but nothing can beat my photo with Tom Holland" I said with a side smile and ready to take a nap before we arrive in Budapest

"When are you gonna tell her how you feel?" asked Daniel looking at Lando

"I don't know what are you talking about" he answer looking at the mirror

"Maybe you should just go on a social media ban?" Daniel say's, humorously trying to lift the mood as he traces his fingers lightly around your back making small shapes and squiggles in hopes to calm you down.

"Ha ha reaaal funny danny ric. real funny." you give a sarcastic round of applause as you lift your head up and look him dead in the eye. "Does this mean i'm an official wag now" a smirk crawls onto your face as you watch daniel's face immediately light up.

"Doesn't sound to bad hey? I can already see the headlines. New formula one wag Y/N Y/L/N stuns everybody with her accidental instagram post" Daniel starts waving his hands around imitating news reporter's. "Just tweet something like "surprise?" and let everyone go batshit crazy, its quite entertaining watching it all go down"

You shrug your shoulders, agreeing with daniel, as you pull out your phone opening twitter. Quickly typing out a tweet you set your phone down again and let out a unsuspected sigh.

"Well then, that was the most stressful hour of my life"

i actually had this idea as i was untangling someone's earphones and i just thought that it was such a cute showing of loveEAHSBEJS ... enjoy this little blurb !! :)

the timelines are a big mixed, so let’s just pretend that this happened while daniel was still at redbull ..

I WILL ALWAYS UNTANGLE YOUR EARPHONES. ﹙ daniel ricciardo x gn!reader ﹚

daniel was a big fan of music. everybody knew that. it didn't matter where he was: he was listening to music.

walking around the paddock, before a race, at home, while taking a shower, during chores, lying in bed with you. wherever, whenever.

after dating him for almost a year, you were already used to it. you knew better than to complain, since you were practically the same. you loved each other with music; it was your way of connecting.

daniel was known for always having any kind of headphones on him. in case he forgot a pair, he would always have the other option. but not this time.

the flight to monaco for the grand prix was getting closer and daniel assured you that both of you would have lots of time to prepare everything before the flight. well, daniel wasn't exactly an airport dad, was he?

you both ran desperately in circles around the house, making sure that you had everything you needed for the trip. while you looked for your passports, he was packing the bags. when you both gave the green light to each other, you were sprinting out of the house; leaving daniel’s headphones behind.

noticing his mistake a little too late, daniel only had one option: buy a pair of earphones. daniel hated earphones. they were always tangled, even if you tried to put them away perfectly. if they broke in the slightest, you had to turn them in all kinds of directions before the sound came out perfect again.

your boyfriend even tried to convince you to let him buy a new pair of headphones during the trip but you quickly dismissed that idea, claiming that it would be a waste of money.

« we will be home in a couple of days, love. there’s no need for such. » you told him with a quick smile and daniel finally accepted his fate.

you come back to the redbull hospitality after hanging out with lily, alex’s girlfriend, for a while. you greet everyone inside with a sweet smile before seeing your boyfriend down the corridor, sitting at the sofa with a pair of earphones in hands. he was clearly struggling with it. you giggle to yourself, before making your way to help him.

« give me that. » you say as you sit beside him, taking the object from his hands. he lets out a defeated sigh as he looks around before gazing at your hands. after a couple seconds you hand him the earphones again.

« thank you, love. » he says as he places a kiss on your cheek, his characteristic grin plastered on his face.

« it’s okay. i will always untangle your earphones for you. » you answer with a shrug, getting up from your seat. you cup daniel’s face into your hands, pulling him for a forehead kiss.

daniel watched as you walked away, a loving smile on his face.

he’s sure, in that moment, that he couldn’t love you any more that he already did.

I know people are not trying to compare the struggles of a privileged white man who has ALWAYS had endless love and support from fans to Yuki, who had to balance learning entirely new cultures + enhancing his English skills while also navigating his rookie season, who ALWAYS has people accusing him of only being on the grid because of "Honda," not talent (yeah ... I'm sure PR has nothing to do with Daniel being back either, it's those beautiful performances he put on in 2022 🙄) even though Yuki has dragged the worst car on the grid into points and is performing consistently now (there's already some bias and racism in looking at what Yuki is doing atm and still insisting he's "only on the grid due to his nationality." And while we're on the topic of nationality ... let's do talk about the racism Yuki faces. Ricciardo screeches in the paddock after being outqualified by his teammate 11 races in a row, everybody loves it, it's passion, etc. Ricciardo calls his car last year, a capable midfield car, "a bag of dicks," everyone loves it. Ricciardo hypes himself up with "let's f*cling go," everyone loves it. Yuki has complaints about his car after this recent race, basically having the slowest car despite the team bringing an upgrade package, everybody describes him as "hot-headed." He needs to calm down. Anytime he expresses the least bit of emotion, he's too hot-headed and aggressive, he needs to be more complacent and docile. Any time he curses, be it out of frustration or just messing around, hes too aggressive, he shouldn't use that language. The guy cannot even express normal emotions without racist stereotypes leading him to labeled as hot-headed and aggressive, yet we routinely see white men on the grid, Daniel included, applauded for similar behaviors. So, no, I'm sorry, compared to Yuki, Daniel isn't some victim who had it so hard. Probably the ONLY similarity there was Daniel having to leave home to race, but he also didn't face contending with major language and culture differences like Yuki did. That was one of the most ridiculous arguments I have ever read. Sorry, I know you weren't the one arguing that, I agreed with everything in your post, that response just angered me.

Anon you really spilled and phrased everything perfectly. I feel like that person was intentionally being obtuse and trying to make Daniel a victim in this situation.

Daniel is a Formula One driver, but, more importantly, he was a single dad to a wonderful little girl. He wants her to be a normal little girl, to have a normal social life, so he sends her to daycare. That was where she met Milo, her future best friend.

Milo's mother was incredibly stressed. She worked so hard to provide a good life for her son. But then he makes a new friend, a friend who has a hot dad (ofc they fall in love)

It was a relief when Milo climbed back into his mother's lap before they began their descent. She sat in her own seat and allowed Milo to take his place in her lap as Olivia sat opposite them. She was a big girl; she didn't need her daddy.

"The tattoos," Y/N began as she held Milo. "I feel like you've got them to appear all terrifying and intimidating, but you're secretly a loser," she said to Daniel.

"A loser?" He asked, but he was unable to contain his smile.

Y/N laughed, her chest shaking slightly. "Don't worry, Danny. All the best people are."

"Are you a loser?" Daniel couldn't stop himself from asking. When Y/N nodded her head, he decided he didn't mind being a loser.

"Keep a hold of my hand, Munchkin," said Y/N as she and Milo entered the paddock.

Milo began skipping as he walked beside his mother. "Do you think we'll get to meet any of the drivers, Momma?" He asked as they walked forward.

Y/N truly didn't know. Daniel had gotten to the circuit much before they had and she had no idea where they were meant to be going. There must be somebody she could ask.

Everybody was far too busy. Every time she approached someone they hurried away, unaware that she and Milo were even there, asking for help.

Finally, she found a man in a navy blue shirt with RED BULL printed on the back of it. Red Bull, that was Daniels old team, she recognised. "Come on, Munchkin," she said and placed Milo on her hip.

She kept a tight hold of him as they walked towards the man with the short blonde hair and blue eyes. "Excuse me," Y/N said before the man had the chance to walk away. The man turned, wearing an ever so kind smile on his face. "Could you help me? We're trying to find the AlphaTauri garage and we're a little lost."

"Of course," the guy said and pointed them in the right direction. He began walking, falling into step beside Y/N as he took her towards where she needed to go. "Are you an AlphaTauri fan?" He asked, noticing the hat on Milo's head.

"I am!" Milo answered and wriggled out of his mother's grip. She put him down and grasped his hand.

Y/N straightened up his hat on his head. "We're friends with Daniel Ricciardo," she answered. "Do you work in Formula One?"

Max couldn't stop himself from laughing at that. "You're not a Formula One fan, are you?" He asked. When she shook her head signalling no, he held out his hand. "I'm Max, I drive for Red Bull," he said.

"Oh!" Y/N suddenly cried. "Your team won last time, didn't you? Congratulations!'

"Thanks," Max said, somewhat bashful. "You said you're friends with Daniel?"

"Our kids are friends from daycare," she answered.

They chatted idly as Max led them to them to the AlphaTauri garage. The conversation was easy, enjoyable, friendly. Milo was happy to talk to Max, tell him everything he had learnt about Formula One so far (most of which Olivia had taught him).

At the AlphaTauri garage, Max left them there. He waved them a goodbye and disappeared, making his way back to the Red Bull garage.

Even though they were now where they were supposed to be, Y/N was lost. "Where do you think we go now, Milo?" She asked, not quite expecting an answer.

But she did get an answer, just not from Milo. "MILO!" Came a loud, familiar voice. Suddenly Olivia was running towards them. She quickly threw her arms around Milo, knocking his hat off in the process.

Her father walked up behind her, greeting Y/N in a much calmer way than Olivia greeted Milo. He still wrapped his arms around her and squeezed, just not as aggressively as Olivia did Milo.

Pulling away, Daniel picked the hat up from the floor and placed it on Milo's head. "Hey Loser," Y/N couldn't stop herself from saying as he pulled the hat down.

"Hey Loser," he mimicked like a parrot. Olivia pulled away from Milo and returned to her fathers side, a proud smile on her face. "We were beginning to think you weren't going to make it," Daniel said as he placed his hands on her head, messing up his neat braids. "And Olivia wanted to introduce Milo to everybody."

That didn't surprise Y/N one bit. "Milo would love to be introduced to all of Livvy's uncles," she said.

Suddenly Olivia grabbed a hold of Milo's hand. She pulled him away, running back through the paddock. "Milo!" Y/N shouted, trying to reach for her son.

"Livvy!" Daniel shouted at the same time as he attempted to grab her, but she was already gone, already taking off down the paddock.

Y/N looked at Daniel. Daniel looked at Y/N. "Shit," they both said and took off, following their children down the paddock.

The first place Olivia wanted Milo to see was the Red Bull garage. "You need to meet my uncle Max, uncle Christian and my uncle Checo," she said as she pulled him around the RB20 with the number 1 on it.

Rather abruptly, Olivia was no longer holding Milo's hand. She was no longer on the ground, instead hoisted into somebodies arms. "Livvy!" The familiar man cried as he held Olivia on his hip.

"Uncle Maxy!" She screamed as she wrapped her arms around him.

At first Max didn't recognise the little boy Olivia was dragging around the paddock. He hadn't learnt his name, but he still recognised him from the AlphaTauri hat on his head. "Who's your friend?" He still asked her.

"This is Milo," she said. "He's my best friend from daycare."

Suddenly Y/N and Daniel were behind them. "Milo!" Y/N shouted, her voice scolding as she picked him up. "Don't you ever run away like that again! You scared me half to death!"

Daniel took Olivia from Max's hands. "What were you thinking, Badger? You know you can't just run off like that," he said, his voice a lot calmer than hers.

Blushing red, Olivia tucked her face in against Daniels chest. "Daddy you're embarrassing me in front of uncle Maxy," she muttered.

"If you're gonna take Milo around the paddock, you need to make sure you have me or his momma with you, okay?"

"Okay," she replied quietly and Daniel placed Olivia back on the ground.

He watched as she walked back to her Uncle Max, who took her and Milo's hands and walked them further into the garage. Daniel checked the watch on his wrist. "Listen, I've got to go and get ready for free practice. Think you can get the kids back to the garage in twenty minutes?" He asked.

"Definitely," Y/N said as she checked the time on her phone.

Daniel kissed her cheek before he took off. Goddamn, she was never going to wash that cheek again.

On Saturday it was a little easy to navigate the paddock. Y/N and Milo found themselves in the AlphaTauri garage with Daniel, Olivia, and Daniels teammate, Yuki.

Olivia and Milo were passionately defending McDonalds to Yuki. He was acting as babysitter while Daniel took Y/N into his drivers room. "I'm pretty sure I have an AlphaTauri shirt somewhere in here," he said as he went through the little wardrobe he had in his drivers room.

At last, he found one. "Aha," he said, wearing a grin as he pulled it from his wardrobe and passed it to her.

She took it gratefully. "Well, turn around then," she said, her smile somewhat daring. Daniel made a big show of shutting his eyes and turning around so that Y/N could get changed into his AlphaTauri shirt. "There," she said and Daniel turned around.

He placed his arm over her shoulders and walked her out of the drivers room, back to where the kids were still talking to Yuki. It was impressive enough that Yuki had managed to keep the swearing to a minimum, but Daniel supposed he'd had enough practice in front of Olivia after the last year of them being teammates.

"Now everybody knows who the hot single momma is supporting," he said as they joined his teammate.

This didn't go unnoticed by anybody in the AlphaTauri garage. Even those in Red Bull could see it, the fond looks they shared, the way Daniel was always standing close to her, the way he so clearly wanted to kiss her.

"You think I'm hot?" Y/N replied, but her tone was teasing.

Daniel spluttered like he had just been caught out. "Y-yeah, sure," he answered like he was unsure of himself. "You're Milo's hot momma."

"Well, if Olivia's hot papa thinking I'm hot, then it must be true," she said as she picked Milo up and placed him on her hip. They looked like quite a pair, with Milo in his AlphaTauri cap and Y/N in her shirt.

They watched the qualifying from the garage, with Olivia holding Y/N's hand and Milo sat in her lap. The qualifying felt incredibly long, but not boring. It was nerve wracking and, if she wasn't holding onto the kids, Y/N's nails would have been chewed down to nothing.

After Q1 was over, Y/N thought that was it. Daniel had finished in the top fifteen, top ten actually. He had made it through to Q2 but she didn't realise that, not until it was happening. "Livvy, what's going on?" She tried to ask, but Olivia had AlphaTauri ear defenders on and couldn't hear a thing.

Again, Daniel finished in the top ten. "Must be my lucky charms," he'd said down over the radio. It didn't take a genius to figure out what he meant, who he meant.

Daniel made it through Q3. He was doing better than his teammate, who had finished just outside of the top ten in Q2. He didn't finish as high as he wanted in Q3, not considering he wanted to go back to his glory days in Red Bull, but it was still good.

Starting P6 wasn't bad for an AlphaTauri, he decided as he climbed out of his car. He went through all of the usual procedures before making his way back to Olivia, Y/N and Milo.

A sweaty Daniel was... something else. Y/N couldn't tear her eyes away from him as he walked past them. She almost let out a low whistle, but she held back, remained her composure in front of the children.

If watching Formula One meant seeing a sweaty Daniel, she could live with that.

Alright penultimate race. Remember that if Nico wins this one it's over, and Lewis has never won there at this point. And it's actively raining! We open on the drivers truck about to leave and Lewis puts himself between Seb and Raikkonen, very close, very intimate.

The grid : Lewis qualified 0.102 ahead of Nico. Then it's Raikkonen, Verstappen, Seb, Ricciardo, Grosjean, Hulkenberg, Perez and Alonso.

The journalist on the drivers’ truck says the crowd has been shouting Lewis' name. Lewis says it's amazing especially given the weather for them to still be there and out. "Yeah I'm not Brazilian but I still have great support here which I'm so grateful for," he says. (And a handful of years later look where we're at! He IS Brazilian!) The journalist says Charlie has already stated it would be a normal standing start. Nice, Lewis says. He says he's glad they took into account the complaints that happened at another race that they should have started on the grid. He's very distracted because he's waving to the crowd and spotting his fans in the stands.

"Did you see your fan club there?" he's asked. "Ya." the journalist is kinda wholesome, he's not looking at Lewis, he's also looking at the crowd smiling wide with him rather than at him.

He says they have good reasons to be excited because Massa is saying goodbye and he might win his first race here. Lewis twitches. "Yeah it's not an easy race to win," he tempers. "Due to all these conditions every time we come, but it is one of the best grand prix there is and I just hope to be as prepared as I can possibly be."

Oh and later on in the build up we learn that Ferrari is appealing Seb's demotion in the Mexico gp. Good luck guys.

Ohhh and Grosjean crashed on his way to the grid. Lewis has been heard on radio saying it's very wet out there and it clearly is. The start is delayed. The drivers are split on whether they should do a standing start or a safety car start.

And it's gonna be a safety car start after all.

And here they go.

Lewis immediately radios in that he can't see behind the safety car and whether they can ask Charlie if they can follow at more of a distance because he can barely see the lights. Seb says there's a lot of water on the straight and between 3 and 4 which wasn't a problem earlier. Daniel also says it's worse than the laps they did to the grid. Are they gonna red flag it? Lewis must have gotten the green flag to put some distance between himself and the SC but he slows down a bit suddenly and we get a concertina effect that looks a bit dangerous in these conditions. Like, some of them are overtaking each other by mistake. Jenson says visibility is "non-existent". At the start of lap 4 Sainz thinks they can race but the visibility is on the limit. Ricciardo then says they're close. They're all agreeing basically that the track is getting better and the spray is the issue. Max says it won't get better if they keep going so slow. Magnussen says "it's easily ready to race". Lewis says when he pits later if they could find a way to block the top of his visor it'd be good because water is dripping in his eyes. Safety car in at the end of lap 7.

Nico was caught sleeping a bit. Verstappen overtakes Raikkonen for P3. Magnussen pits for inters?! That's not gonna end well. You can tell Nico is more cautious than Lewis. Someone has crashed I think. Yellow flash in sector 3 and I can see Gutierrez falling in the standings. Oh it's cleared! Maybe he just spun then. Jenson pits for inters as well.

Lap 10, still don't know what happened to Gutierrez. Seb is closing on Raikkonen. Alonso, Bottas and Massa pit. Inters for everybody. It still seems early for that. So many people in the pits. Kvyat, Palmer, Ericsson. Nico says he thinks it's too early. Ricciardo is closing on both Ferraris. Ohhh and Seb aquaplaned a bit there, Ricciardo is ahead. Oh no. Okay so. Initially he just kind of drifted on the straight but as he rejoins the track he spins for good and finds himself facing the wrong way. Scary, especially in such low visibility. He manages to go again thankfully. He pits. Oh there's a problem with the gun! 7.9. It's bad. Ohhh. Someone's stranded and someone almost hit him at full speed. It's Ericsson. Safety car. For some reason instead of stopping in the area between the track and the pitlane entry he stopped IN the pitlane entry. Bad idea bro. OH GOD. AS THE CAMERA PANS AWAY THERE'S A RBR OR TORO ROSSO CAR DIVING IN THE PITS AT FULL SPEED. Did they collide?! There's debris from Ericsson's car in the middle of the track as well, that's what the camera was panning to. It's Max who pitted. He had to take evasive action. And the pitlane is now closed. It's unfair! Really stupid from Ericsson as well. Also Ricciardo is now in as well so? Lewis asks if it was someone on inters and he's told yes. Lewis says there's still way too much standing water. Nico is told they expect the rain is gonna get worse actually. Bad news for the inter boys. And we see a replay of Perez doing a full 360 on the track. Magnussen says he thinks it's too wet now. Too wet for inters? His teams asks. Too wet period, he says. The pitlane is open again. Ricciardo is under investigation for entering the pitlane while it was close. Palmer pitted to get back on the full wets. "Lewis, just give us some feedback on current conditions in terms of spray." – "It's– it's no different." – "OK roger." Safety car coming in again at the end of lap 19 and Massa is under investigation for overtaking before the safety car line.

Here we go again. Lap 20. The order goes Lewis, Nico, Raikkonen, Verstappen, Hulkenberg, Perez, Sainz, Nasr, Ricciardo and Ocon, at the moment. OH AND RAIKKONEN IS INTO THE WALL! It just took a couple of corners and as soon as they crossed the finish line he crashed. Oh shit he bounced from one side of the track to the other and almost crashed into Verstappen in the process. Loads of debris everywhere again. They're definitely gonna red flag this at some point right? The safety car is back out of course. Yep, it's a red flag. We hear that Seb was calling for it. "Yeah we need extremes, first of all, second we need to stop the race. It doesn’t work. How many people do you want to crash? I nearly crashed into Kimi in the middle of the straight. Couldn’t see anything." Everybody is getting out of the cars. Lewis is talking with Pez, his start engineer. Nico is talking, in French, with a man about his visor. He's eating a banana. We see a replay of Max almost losing it on the straight as well and he says on radio he wasn't even pushing. Massa gets a 5 sec time penalty for overtaking before the safety car line. Daniel gets one as well for entering the pitlane while it was closed. Lewis then comes back out and talks with Bono. They’re very very close.

Okay we got the 10 minute warning for the restart. And here we go yet again, under safety car. Ocon immediately says the visibility is worse than when they stopped. Oh god. Perez is told heavy rain is coming (what did we get until now then?!) and they expect it will last FIFTY MINUTES. This race is fucked. Seb says it's still bad and Hulkenberg pits, which is weird because it takes him from P4 to P15. Nico says it's still very difficult. Oh Hulkenberg had a puncture. And Palmer has DNFd and nobody noticed. Max is told they're potentially expecting more rain as the commentators say they think it's getting raceable. Seb says it seems like it's getting heavier, he sees more rivers in turn 5 and says he's nearly lost the car several times around the track. Oh. Palmer is out because he crashed into Kvyat apparently. Somehow they didn't show us until now. And Max just overtook Nico under SC. And Perez behind him has to break hard to avoid him. "We should be going, Charlie." Lewis says with a touch of music in his voice. A couple laps later Ted reports that Max is saying the same thing and that the crowd is booing.

But they're not going.

They're red flagging it.

AGAIN.

The whistles are LOUD. Lewis, when told about the red flag, says the track is fine. The public is very, very unhappy. Drivers aren't happy about it either OH HEY! THAT'S WHERE THAT GIF FROM SHY LOVER CHARLES LOOKING AT LEWIS IS.

Ted says he gets that people are unhappy but names Jules Bianchi. And he's right. And we get another 10 minutes warning after a good long while. But the teams are saying they expect the rain to keep going as it is or get worse. We still have 42 laps to go and I wonder if it's gonna work out. They go again under safety car. And again we're told it'll do more than 1 lap.

It's lap 30. Lewis says the lap is no different and Max says it's a little bit worse but they can race and indeed the safety car comes in. Nico leaves some room to Lewis but behind him Max and Perez are so close to him they're almost overtaking each other. Max has positioned his car to overtake. Now Lewis slows down as well and he's gonna have to get it right. He does. Max is extremely close to Nico. Massa pits. Max overtakes Nico. We could barely see it happen with the spray. Ricciardo overtakes Sainz for P5. Seb overtakes Wehrlein for P10. Max was getting close to Lewis but Lewis sets a fastest lap. The gap is 1.5. 1.7. 1.9. There's tight skillful racing in the midfield. Seb is chasing Ocon for P9, half a second away. And then Ocon makes a mistake and Seb is ahead. OHHH and Max spins but miraculously manages to not hit the barrier but it's still costly because Nico who'd fallen back a bit is now wheel to wheel with him down the straight but Max stays ahead!

It's lap 40. Lewis, Max +6.7 (!), Nico +1.5, Perez +6.7, Ricciardo +0.5, Sainz +3.9, Nasr +7.5, Alonso +1.2, Seb +1.2, Ocon +4.3. Ted says Lewis has radioed in that his tyres are starting to fall off and he's been told to try to cool them down. Ricciardo pits. He serves his penalty. Goes away on inters. Let's see how that goes. Welp. Perez is told they expect heavier rain in 5 minutes lol. Massa, Bottas and Jenson in P16, 17 and 18 are also on inters btw. Seb overtakes Alonso for P8, and Alonso tries to come back but finds himself forced wide by the Ferrari! Max also pits for inters! It might be catastrophic for RBR if they got the weather report wrong. If they got it right they might get a nice undercut. And Daniel is setting good lap times at this point. Hulkenberg pushed Ocon wide. Seb overtakes Nasr for P6, and Jenson wants to go back on the wets saying the inters are bad. He's told other cars are still going on inters and he says he doesn't care, and cannot drive through the last few corners on this tyre. (I would trust him given his skills in wet conditions.) He pits. Oh and we see Nico had a moment as well. Bono describes it to Lewis as a "half spin exit 12 through 13" and tells him to be cautious. Gutierrez says there's something wrong with his car. There's a big fight for P7 between Nasr, Alonso, Hulkenberg and Ricciardo. They're all under a second from each other. Yellow flags in sectors 1 and 3… oh it's a crash again. And it's Massa. For his last home race. What a shame! Safety car out. And he's also stranded in the pit lane entry which means the pit lane is closed. He gets out of the car and stands there waving to the crowd. Bro it's dangerous, go away. There's a photographer there who hugs him and says something to him in a very animated manner and taps his helmet. It's sad. He walks towards the pitlane waving and then someone gives him a Brazilian flag and he holds it open behind his head. He's trying very hard not to cry I think. Ted says Lewis reported he had an aquaplaning moment. It's bad for Mercedes that the pitlane is closed. They would have wanted to change tyres, probably.

It's lap 50. 3 more laps and they get full points. Oh.

There's a marshal crying for Massa. It's cute. Massa is crying too now. Still walking sadly all alone with his flag under the rain towards the garage. Soppy. In the garage, his son is waiting. This is the saddest shit I've seen in a while. In the pitlane a couple of Williams workers welcome him and hug him and comfort him as he walks. His son is walking in his direction with his mom. OH MY GOD. I'm gonna start crying as well. All the Mercedes mechanics are lined up in front of the garage clapping for him as he walks past.

And his wife and son hug him right there. He's sobbing. I'm so emo, fuck. His engineer also kisses him on the head. Now it's the entire Ferrari garage flocking to him and clapping. And his dad is there hugging him. The pitlane entry is now open. But everyone is still celebrating Massa. The Williams people are also waiting for him clapping in a line. He's hugging everybody. They're all hugging him. So many people are crying.

Back to the race, Ricciardo is pitting for full wets again. Lewis is saying he can't keep the temperature in his tyre with how slow the safety car is going. Nico says there's more water now and asks how many crashes they wanna see. It's lap 54 and it's full points. Max says in the last sector "it's like a boat" and I read he also wants to go back on full wets. Verstappen pits. Now it's complicated. Of course Nico wants them to stop the race, he's second. But Max went from second to fifth because they pitted and now they're pitting him again. He's gonna lose out big time if they red flag it. He's P16 now. But they're not redflagging it! We're gonna go again! Here's the current top 10 then : Lewis, Nico, Perez, Sainz, Seb, Nasr, Alonso, Hulkenberg, Ocon, Kvyat. Here we go.

Nico is very close. Lots of movement in the back. Oh yeah. Alonso spun. Oof. His front tyres went on the grass and the grass shredded. It's just mud. He didn't crash though and is going again, only in P17. Lewis pulled a gap. Max is up in P12 half a second away from P11 already. And P11. P10 is Daniel though, and P9 is Kvyat. Let's see how that goes. Hulkenberg is very close to Nasr. And Max overtakes Daniel. Hulkenberg overtakes Nasr.

It's lap 60. Lewis, Nico +4.3, Perez +5.6, Sainz +3.0, Seb +1.3, Hulkenberg +3.8, Nasr +0.9, Ocon +2.2, Kvyat +1.2, no actually, it's now Max, then Kvyat, then Ricciardo in P11. Oof Max is now pressuring Ocon, who's catching up to Nasr. And Max is in P8. Gutierrez is out in a double retirement for Haas. He's shown throwing his gloves on the ground in the garage. Ricciardo overtakes Kvyat for P10, while Max attacks Nasr and is up in P7. It's really impressive what he's doing out there in these conditions I have to say. And Ricciardo is up in P9 after clearing Ocon. They're really the whole show in this race. And then he clears Nasr for P8 as well. Gutierrez and Steiner are having words. Seb is getting close to Sainz. But Verstappen overtook Hulkenberg for P6, and attacks him. But Seb defends and keeps his position for now. 5 laps to go. He attacks again, ohhh and Seb is on the grass… Was he pushed? He makes little work of Sainz, and that's P4. Incredible. Seb says he was pushed indeed. He says he was ahead. It's difficult to say tbh. Max sets the fastest lap and he's looming behind Perez now. What's the gap to Nico actually? Is Nico at risk? Oh yeah no he's not. Perez to Nico is 14.3 seconds and there's 3 lap to go. But he'll make the podium. Ooooof he attacks from the outside, Perez closes the door on him so he's off track but doesn't yield because he was ahead for sure and pushes Perez right back, he has the inside line in the next corner and they're a wheel to wheel in the exit and he's ahead into the next one! And that's the podium. And Seb overtakes Sainz for P5. Lewis starts his final lap.

And it's the end of the race.

Lewis wins ahead of Nico and Max. He's now ahead of Prost on the list of drivers with most wins, second only to Michael. He's also broken the record for the most different circuit he's won at, with 24. He is so so so happy on radio. Whooping, yelling, laughing. I'll post a clip of that. His first win in Brazil. Bono chuckles with him. Lovely.

In the cool down room he talks tyres with Max and how much water was in the last sector. Max is very very elated as well. They're all kinda hyped up. Then they say something about staying second and Nico says Max wasn't faster than him and Max says he was but only for one lap then there was more water and he didn't have the grip. I think Lewis is impressed with his performance and he asks what time he was doing then Nico says "did you get the wall in turn 14?" and Max says "no, I just – Oh my god, that was a big moment." Lewis alludes to the fact that Nico also has a moment. Nico nods with a smile. He asks how Lewis knows. "Coz I know everything that happened in the race," Lewis jokes. "I saw it on TV."

Brundle is conducting the interviews and he starts by thanking the public who stayed through it all. "What a race Lewis!" he says. "Not too bad huh?" Lewis says. They both chuckle.

He also thanks the fans. He says he was just chilling at the front and when it rains it's usually good for him. He says it was tricky for everybody though with the aquaplaning. He thanks the team, they are making history together. Brundle says he was talking about water getting in his helmet, was it the only drama for him? "That was the only drama, yeah. No mistakes, no issues, no spins." He says it was kinda interesting to hear along the race the people who spun behind him, but he didn't have that problem so he's very happy.

The crowd is very agitated but I'm not sure why. Cheering then booing then chanting things I can't hear then booing again then singing like at a football match : ole ole ole ole, something something.

Max speaks of his spin again and Brundle asks the others if they saw it and Nico says again he saw him pointing 90° towards the wall and Lewis says again he saw it on TV. Max repeats, baffled : "He was watching the TV!" (And now he’s the one doing so.)

Lewis says he'll give it his all in Abu Dhabi which is usually a good track for him but right now he wants to live in the moment. This has been his dream ever since the first time he saw Ayrton Senna race when he was 6. It's his first victory in Brazil and he says it's the 44th grand prix here so it's lucky. Brundle asks if it's one of his toughest wins, top 5 maybe? Lewis says it was one of the easiest ones. It was a very easy race generally. (I think he's being a bit cocky but I guess he really did not have any difficulty out front. The others did.) He says Silverstone 2008 was way harder.

Niki says Lewis and Nico did a perfect job and Verstappen was outstanding. Oh and Johnny says he's one in a generation and it's good for Formula 1 and for the future “because we're gonna see stuff like that– can you imagine? Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen going at it? It will be awesome!“ Will it though? Lol.

Lewis is very very happy he's finally won in Brazil. He says he remembers watching Senna drive there in ‘91 and thinking that's what he wants to do. He says he can now finally understand how amazing it feels and he's just super thankful and grateful to all the people who've helped him do it, his team.

They have proved this year they're the best team by far (they broke the record of the number of wins in a row or something like this I don't remember). He says in every area, “our hospitality, it destroys everyone else's, our food is the best, our guys in the garage are the best, our guys back at the factory are the best, my car is the best.” He's proud to be a part of it. The journalist says she has little notes about him because they didn't see him much during the race, how was it?

He says generally this is the hardest grand prix. He's been trying to win this thing for 10 years. But it just so happens that day was an easier race for him. He didn't have any problem, any mistake, any issue, nobody could match his times. It was amazing, he says. “Racing in the rain, here, on Senna’s turf, with Brazil watching, I mean it's a very very special moment which I will never forget.''

Finally she says the RBR guys pitted for the inters and it helped them (Mercedes) open a gap and if it wasn't for that stop Nico might have been further behind him in the points. “He got lucky today again,” she says. “Unbelievable,” he shakes his head, then laughs.

“When will it end. I mean RedBull made such a big mistake with that call.” He says there was never a moment, then says there actually was one moment after the first safety car the track was inter but more rain was coming. Other than that it was never an inter track.

He says when the team called him to say other people were going on inters he said they're crazy. He knew they'd have to pit again. And that's what they did. He calls it a shame. But there's nothing he could do about that. He says ‘he’ still had a great race and got back up to third, but it'd be good if they made good calls in the next race, he laughs.

At the end of the broadcast, Simon asks who's gonna win, Hamilton or Rosberg. Everybody says Rosberg : Brundle, Di Resta, Hill and Johnny.

tell you the truth it's always strange (in a good way ofc!! but still strange) for me to get compliments for making gifs bc like, im literally doing something so fun? it just didn't (still kinda doesn't) make sense to me that I get all these kind and wonderful compliments simply for some random leisure activity that i LIKE to do... but then I started to realize maybe life doesn't like, need to be hard, you don't always need to like suck it up in order to produce something of value. you can enjoy what you do and still contribute to something. this realization (and watching our blorbos doing what they love in their vroom vrooms every week) inspired me to finally quit what used to be my dream job last week. i am now enjoying my time off to figure out my next step literally like mr daniel ricciardo lmao. grad school me would've thought this was batshit insane but again like daniel im in a very good place rn and i want to thank everybody here for this 🥹 your girl is no longer suffering for money and she's decided never to do that ever again. she's free 💖

May I present: F1 STORYLINES THAT THE PEOPLE (me) ACTUALLY CARE ABOUT

Ferrari: Leclerc vs Sainz

It is no secret that Carlos Sainz is out of a seat for 2025, and this will be his last year with the Scuderia many people are wondering how this 2024 season will pan out. Before the season starts many fans are already questioning what will happen. Will there be inner-team rivalry? Will Sainz ignore team orders? Will Leclerc be favoured (more than he usually is) and will Carlos be left on the waste side? We will have to wait to find out.

Mercedes: Hamilton vs Russell

Now we have the reason Sainz does not have a seat for 2025. In a shocking turn of events Lewis Hamilton is moving from Mercedes to Ferrari at the end of the 2024 season. This has left many fans excited but also questioning what will happen on track between the 2 teammates that have already come to blows last season. The main question on everyone’s mind is, “who will be favourited?” The man that won 6 championships with the German outfit or the man who is touted as the future of Mercedes.

Will the other teams catch up?

It is no secret that Red Bull dominated the 2023 season. And all the teams especially Ferrari, McLaren and Mercedes are now playing catch up. But will they even catch up? All the teams reference is the RB19 and not the RB20 that Red Bull spent last year developing. So will the RB20 be better than the RB19 and if so will teams catch up for the 2024 season (I hope the other teams catch up)

McLaren: Norris vs Piastri

Piastri had a rockstar rookie season getting two podiums and a sprint win. That has undoubtedly put pressure on Norris to perform. And of course Norris will be favoured but Piastri will only improve from the 2023 season. So McLaren will need to monitor both drivers and make sure they don’t come to blows on track.

The Back of the grid

Toro Rosso (RB), Sauder (Kick), Williams and HAAS made up the back of the grid last year. And many people are curious if any of them will improve. People expect Toro Rosso to improve as they are taking heavy inspiration from their sister team, Red Bull. But many people want to see where all these teams will finish at the end of the year.

The Red Bull Dilemma

Everybody knows Red Bull like revolving through driver. And this year will be no different. With Perez’ arse on the line and having to perform, at any moment Red Bull can take away his seat and give it to someone else. But who is in contention for that second Red Bull seat? Both Toro Rosso drivers are in contention, with both drivers also racing to stay in Formula 1, as Liam Lawson came in for 5 races (replacing an injured Ricciardo) and lit up the grid, and was promised a seat for 2025. But there are also outsiders who have been rumoured for that second Red Bull seat, with Alex Albon, Fernando Alonso and Lando Norris all rumoured.

Who’s going to get that second Mercedes seat?

Will Lance Stroll have a seat in 2025?

Lance Stroll did not have a spectacular 2024 season with many people wanting him out of that Aston Martin seat and Felipe Drugovich to get the seat. But Lawrence Stroll owns Aston Martin so Lance can’t loose his seat. But wait theirs more to the story (😱) Aramco (Saudi Oiler Company) now own a stake in Aston Martin and if Lance Stroll doesn’t improve Aramco might have to force Lawance Strolls hand and kick Lance out.
