the fucking KIDS at welton. the CHILDREN. maybe its just me but i always find myself forgetting that welton isnt a highschool + there are in fact a lot more students than the ones we're focusing on. thats what makes welton so like. evil? to me? they start pushing these kids into a box EARLY.

related, i wouldve LOVED to see how(/if?) keating taught these kids, or rly any other class! he has other classes!!! i think!

ok. of course. neil is a smoker, we've touched on that. but charlie is too?? and he's the one who provides the cigs???? obviously the easy explanation is that he does it to be rebellious and stuff but also Is There Something Else. much to think abt. also wondering where he gets his cigs but thats not rly anything i dont think.

this ones just funny but when mr perry tells the boys they can take a seat and todd simply does not. i KNOW he wasnt sitting before and he needs to unpack and stuff but ITS STILL FUNNY.

also!!! neil calling his dad sir. obviously its something so glaringly obvious that we dont need to have a discussion abt how theres a disconnect between them. like wow rly thanks mona i didnt know. but come on!!! it makes me sad!!! also they shake hands later in this scene and its the most affectionate/ friendly we see these two get. and its a handshake. and i think what makes it worse is that neil is a SUPER physically affectionate person with his friends. if u watch the movie and pay attention to how often he's touching someone else then ur gonna be like man. he rly was jumping at every opportunity huh.

something about the way neil and the boys act around mr perry makes me view him as more of a drill sargent than anything. everyone immediately stands upon him entering the room. they dont sit until given permission. it rly puts the whole military school thing into perspective but NOT ENOUGH TO SATISFY ME. as much as i hate mr perry, i wanna know what his life was like growing up. this man lived thru the great depression AND wwii, theres stories.

cam's stupid fucking face when keatings behind him larping ghosts. i will never stop talking about how sassy this kid is. the dps redheads go criminally unacknowledged in terms of comedy because OH MY GOD. CAM AND MEEKS WERE SO FUCKING FUNNY??? they both pulled the most dastardly judgemental looks and they make me cackle. a bit earlier in this scene meeks goes full 🙄🤨 on sniffles (tissue kid. i call him sniffles) and it is, without exaggeration, my fav part of the movie.

the fact that i totally thought knox was gonna fall off his bike and eat shit in this scene. it would be so out of place since dps isn't exactly full of physical comedy but GOD i still fully anticipated it. either that or him getting attacked by a bird. theres totally symbolism surrounding birds in this movie btw and idk what to make of it. if any of u lovely ppl have a theory then lmk immediately.

keating so accurately calling cam out being like "is this right is this right. am i walking right." BC YESSS. i will eventually make a fully fledged cam post but to briefly touch on it, i find cam to be very confused on what is right, usually in terms of morals. a whole situation of confusing your personal values with the rules, thinking theyre one in the same, and completely abandoning what u actually believe. unfortunately i think neils death rly amplified that nd is what led him to tattle. cuz cam is still willing to break the rules in the beginning of the movie!! he's outwardly judgemental but he still does it!! much to discuss, i promise i will eventually.

u guys know im an avid knox hater but this made me giggle. rip knox overstreet u wouldve loved twitch streaming.

THE SPECIFICS OF THIS SHOT. i was gonna make a post a while ago being like "idk i find it funny that the main focus of this shot isnt even one of the poets" and then i realised that WAITTTTTTT THATS THE POINT!!!! keating reached kids besides the poets!!! u didnt have to be in the dead poets society to be affected by the way he taught his classes!!! u just had to be his student!!!!! also i love the fact that the kids who stayed seated r ASHAMED. EMBARRASSED.

the ending shot. oihghgghgg. it was SUCH a choice to set it up this way and honestly i adore peter for making it. this shot is SOOOO UNCOMFORTABLE TO LOOK AT and i love it. when i first watched this i was like "uhm ok interesting choice putting todd between this kids legs but I GET IT. one of the biggest things i remember from the film classes i took is that the way u set up shots is sooo important narratively, and one way to rly push the narrative is the space around a character in a shot. for example! if u have a character on screen surrounded by a TON of negative space then it rly emphasises how alone/ isolated they are. on the other end of the spectrum (the todd spectrum), if you surround a character in a shot with other objects or obstructions, like todd and this kids legs, then it rly emphasises how trapped and confined they are. looking at this makes me feel like. claustrophobic almost, like it's genuinely a bit harder to breathe looking at it. TODD IS STILL TRAPPED IN THAT SCHOOL. YES HE STOOD ON THE DESK AND YES HE NOW HAS THE MOTIVATION TO BE MORE CONFIDENT BC OF NEIL BUT HE! IS STILL! TRAPPED THERE!

i was also gonna add that we dont rly talk about todd personality wise outside of poetry and anxiety but then i realised, what else is there? we dont really see much about him as a person outside of that, and i think thats the point! todd is constantly overshadowed by his brother, we know that, but i dont think we realise HOW MUCH that ties in with his entire character. quite honestly, outside of poetry and anxiety, ALL we have surrounding todd is his brother and his achievements. and of course! that makes sense! his parents want him to be just like his brother, they dont care about who he is as a person. UGH.

the desk set scene rly is the most insight we'll get into todds actual personality and desires imo, and thats what kills me. he wants a car!!!! get this boy a car!!!!!!!!! we rly see him start to open up before neils death and i wouldve LOVED to get to know todd when he's actually in a place to be himself!! but of course we never got that! sobs.

anywho. thats all i have for now. PLEASE share ur thoughts if u have any pls pls pls. encouraging discussion!! i love love love hearing about the specifics nd stuff, theres soooo much to pick apart abt this movie so i wanna hear everyones thoughts.

book character analysis: neil perry from dead poet's society

Neil Perry was initially portrayed as an outspoken, optimistic, and creative leader in the Poets' lives: He fully accepts himself, wears his heart on his sleeve, and pushes Todd outside of what he is comfortable with, rejecting the constricting hands of conformity.

I think he is the boldest character in the novel, as he represents the intricate mosaic of conflicting feelings and desires that society feels when faced with an authority figure’s demands. Neil dreams of becoming an actor, however, he feels restrained by his overbearing father (Thomas Perry) from doing so. Some even say Mr.Perry is his biological father, but John Keating was his dad, which hit me like a train because that was when I realized love must be earned and reciprocated to thrive.

Although he fears his father’s perception of him, he does find the strength to go against his father with encouragement from Mr. Keating and his friends. But with the excruciating pressures of his father's expectations becoming increasingly more restrictive, Neil shrinks into his own skin, slowly losing his identity. Momentarily before he commits suicide, he attempts to stand up to his father, but he is pushed back down again. Neil lets the void consume him as he accepts the life planned out for him by his father, realizing he has no voice in contributing his own verse.

Ultimately, Neil takes his own life, a moment showing the evil nature of both obedience and disobedience. His suicide represents his own personal story, as he does not want to disobey and disappoint his father, but he does not want to follow the path that has been written for him. In my opinion, Neil's passing will forever be one of the most heartbreaking yet powerful plot twists in the novel. It shows how even the strongest can still crumble under the disapproval and neglect of the ones they love and look up to the most.

“Neil come on we’re going to be late!” you weren’t even sure what he was doing up there but by God was he taking his sweet time about it. you had been packed for ages and if he didn’t hurry up you were certain that you wouldn’t get a good spot on the beach. “coming angel” was the calm reply from your boyfriend you sighed. after what seemed like an Aeon, he finally appeared carrying a ridiculous-looking pool float. You couldn’t help but let out a soft chuckle of entertainment at your boyfriend's antics and leant over to kiss him sweetly on the cheek. “Neil darling, you can’t take that to the beach the tide could take it and send you out to the sea”

You watched his face drop; you could understand his mistake growing up in Vermont meant that beaches weren’t something he knew much of. “Sorry pretty I had wanted to surprise you with it” your heart swelled at his thoughtful gesture. “Neil you know I don’t need anything just your company. but if you want to make it up to me you can always buy me an ice cream when we’re there” you laughed at the last bit letting him know that you don’t expect anything. with that the two of you get in the car, the beach boys blasting out on the radio. hands��interlocked together.

When you get to the beach your fears are unfounded as Neil has somehow found a gorgeous, isolated cove. your eyes are wide and smile widely at him “pretty cool right” he says smiling softly at you. you couldn’t help but nod convinced that you have the best boyfriend in the universe. After you two have unpacked all the stuff from the boot you go to take your top off to reveal your swimsuit and feel his gaze on you. you roll your eyes and nudge him “what are you looking at Mr.?” he smirks “just admiring my beautiful girl that's all” you try to hide the blush that you know is spilling onto your cheeks. quickly ridding yourself of the rest of your clothes eagerly grab his hand and pull on him to come into the sea which reflects the sunlight of the glorious day.

you feel him run after you, terribly pleased but then he’s grabbing you by the waist. you feel him picking you up. making you scream and laugh all at once. “put me down Neil, put me down” he’s laughing too and shaking his head. you are vaguely aware that you are getting closer to the sea and just as you notice it you feel your body hit the water. you’re soaked to your skin, but he started this war and you're determined to finish it. you start splashing him, he’s splashing you right back. then you come up with an evil idea. you pout sadly “Neil come here please I want a kiss.” just like clockwork, he leans in and that's his mistake really because the minute his lips touch yours, you are dunking him under water because as you tell him “serves you right” unjustly he’s much stronger than you and he pulls you right back under with him and begins kissing you. His lips are soft, and they taste like salt and suncream and something else that is entirely Neil. and with the sun smiling down at the two of you, you know that simply couldn’t be a better day than how heavenly this one is. just you, neil and a sea that stretches out forever….

Premise: You had thought thinks had been going well, but then, after his debut in A Midsummer Nights Dream, Neil does something drastic; the sound of one gun shot can echo on forever

The Morning After The Play

You're not entirely sure why you've been woken so early on a Saturday, nor why you, and the rest of the Poets have been called down to Mr. Keatings room.

The one thing that you are sure of, however, is the anxious pit in your stomach, and the fact that Neil is very much missing.

Mr. Keating sat resolutely at his desk as Mr. McAllister led you in, a certain sadness you'd never seen on him before, etched into his features.

With a sigh, he stood, murmuring, "Thank you, George," as Mcallister faded to the back of the room.

"Captain what's going on?" Charlie asked after a moment, unable to stand the silence.

Mr. Keating cleared his throat uncomfortably, and the pit in your stomach seemed to deepen.

"Well Lads, I- figured you should hear it from me first, and not in the announcement that will be made later on this morning."

There was a waver in his voice, and Cameron seemed to panic, "Sir, if this has anything to do with the society- I swear, they forced me into it-"

"It's not about that," He interrupted, taking a deep breath before continuing, "But no doubt, that will soon be called into question. uh- We received a call, this morning, from Mr. Perry. Last night- last night after the play- Neil took his own life."

Suddenly, it was like your world shattered.

As you backed away from the group, you could distantly hear Knox muttering about how it couldn't be true, and Charlie demanding to know if it was some sort of sick joke.

You only became aware of the tears streaming down your face when Pitts had turned back to you, offering a tissue, and a hug, but still, it didn't seem real.

This had to be some sort of sick dream.

The Afternoon After the Play

Mr. Keating wasn't sure how anyone could take it. The rest of the administration continued on like it was nothing, only Mr. Nolan launching an investigation into what may have caused Neil's decision.

Classes had been canceled until the next week, and most of the students only treated it like a vacation.

Most of them.

He knew that somewhere, You and the rest of the poets were trying to mourn.

Wandering through his dark and empty classroom, he found himself standing at Neil's desk.

Slowly, Mr. Keating sank into the seat, finding the old tattered copy of 500 centuries of verse Neil had left, almost like he'd known he'd be returning it now.

He stared at the cover, at his own scrawling hand writing.

This was on him, wasn't it? He was the one to tell Neil to go and pursue his dreams, even after he'd told him about his fathers opinions.

God, why had he ever told them about the Dead Poets Society?

The Sunday after the Play

Charlie hadn't properly registered anything since that morning.

At least, not enough to make sense of it all.

He sat at the same pew where he'd taken the phone call from God, but everything had changed since then, he could no longer find the humor in his shenanigan.

The rest of the mass sang from the hymnal, but he couldn't bring himself to even look down at the book Todd shakily held in front of them both.

Charlie had long before learned how to let the trials life threw at him roll off his back, but this was different, this was numbing him to his core.

A Week After The Play

Nolan's investigation had begun, and would probably be concluded by the end of the day.

Cameron paced nervously up and down the hall outside of his and Charlie's room, would they understand? Would they try to see his point of view?

He was late to the meeting, he knew that; but he had to be. With what Neil had done, what Neil had uncovered... Cameron had been left to scramble to pick up the pieces of his life and hopefully get them shoved back into order, that way he could still have the future Neil didn't want.

Taking a deep breath, he turned, going all the way down the hall and into the coat room Pitts had said they were meeting in.

All of you froze, staring at him as he entered.

"What's going on guys?" He asked, taking a step into the circle.

Slowly, Charlie got up from his seat, "You finked, didn't you Cameron?"

"Finked?" He repeated, "I don't know what the hell your talking about."

From where you sat by the window with Todd, your eyes seemed to bore into him, searching for something he wasn't sure of.

"You told Nolan everything about the club is what I'm talking about." Charlie spat.

"Look, in case you haven't heard Dalton, at this school there's something called an honor code. If a teacher asks you a question you tell the truth, or you're expelled." He wasn't sure why he was lashing out, but still he did.

"You little-" The words died on Charlie's lips as he went to lunch at him.

Desperately, Knox and Meeks grabbed at him, dragging him away from Cameron.

"He's a rat! He's in it up to his eyes so he ratted to save himself!" Charlie yelled.

"Don't touch him Charlie, you do and your out." Knox said carefully.

"I'm out anyway!"

"You don't know that." Pitts tried to argue.

"He's right," Cameron nodded, "And if you guys are smart, you'll do exactly what I did and cooperate. Their not after us! We're the victims. Us and Neil."

You glared at him, uttering through gritted teeth, "You have no right Cameron."

"What the hell do you mean anyway?" Charlie demanded, "Who are they after then?"

"Why the 'captain' himself! Mr. Keating of course! I mean you guys really didn't really think he could avoid responsibility, did you?"

"Mr. Keating is responsible for Neil? Is that what their saying?"

"Who else do you think, dumbass?" It was almost like he was taunting him now, "Mr. Keating put us up to all this shit-"

"That's bullshit and you know it!" You were standing now, starting to cross the room, "He didn't put any of us up to anything. Neil loved acting."

"if it weren't for Mr. Keating, Neil would be holed up in his room, studying for chemistry right now! Beilive what you want, but I saw let Keating fry! Why ruin our lives?"

Before Charlie could even move you had crossed the room fully, smacking him across the face with all the strength you could muster.

You couldn't have cared less for what happened in that room after you stormed out.

Two Weeks after the play

After you'd stormed out, you'd gone straight to Mr. Nolans office, turning yourself in, and telling him, straight to his face, with no regards to your friends, or your parents feelings, that you would rather be expelled than have to deal with another second of Welton Bullshit.

Now you were leaving, leaving it all behind.

Nothing that had happened in the past week seemed to matter to you as you packed up your things, you were leaving, and that was it.

As you zipped your suitcase closed, you couldn't help but breath a sigh of relief. None of this had anything to do with you anymore.

It was almost like you could care less, now that Neil was gone.

You didn't take it as any of your business when you could hear Cameron's muffled sobs from the next room over every night, or when Meeks and Pitts stopped talking to anyone else entirely, hell you'd even let it entirely up to Knox to help drag Todd out of the lake when he had decided it was too much.

None of it mattered anymore.

Neil had made his decision, and now you had made yours, and neither of you cared about the repercussions.

"Orgonon Gurlz" by Neil Cicierega feels to me like the following:

You are in a black void, sitting in front of an old T.V., the music video for Cloudbusting is playing in it. It's the only shine in this void, like the yo-yo that glowed in the dark. For some reason the T.V. is repeating itself, so you bang it in hopes of fixing it; doing that, you accidentatly fall into some muddy tar-like black substance that was nearby and that had been stalking you for a while without you knowing.

The tar speaks to you, it's Katy Perry and California Gurls in some supernatural shape, the tar takes different shapes, like water doing tricks by itself; it looks peaceful until it starts attacking you (This happens in the "Love-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-" part). From here it's California Gurls trying to attack you in different supernatural and evil ways to make its way inside your body and mind to consume you.

California Gurls feels like unspeakable horrors beyond your comprehension, it wants to leave you to rot. You try to run away, you try everything, kick it, punch it, until you fall to the floor and you're not able to stay up back. Katy Perry has made you drop to the floor, you're trying to focus in Kate Bush's voice and the melody of Cloudbusting to save your mind, to remain strong, you stretch the hand towards the T.V. screen, another hand from it comes out of the screen, trying to reach you, trying to rescue you.

It looks like you're about to make it, then Snoop Dogg appears from the other side, chopping off your arm, you get dragged deep into the horrors, as these consume you alive, every cell and nerve of your body is in pain, exploding, a worse-than-hell experience, a gory mess. Kate Bush can only say as a Goodbye "the sun's coming out", hoping that at least, your soul will be taken to a better place. The train at the end leaving symbolizes your death.

anderperry au where todd asks neil out first hehe

now with a part 2 (neil’s pov)

so

todd knows who neil is but they dont room together

he only knows neil through their numerous classes together and he may have an itsy bitsy crush

neil’s fucking pretty - todd’s known this since the first time he saw him laughing with his group of friends and almost tripped over his feet

luckily no one noticed

anyway neil’s fucking pretty but he’s completely different from todd and wayy out of his league so obviously todd doesnt have a crush

of course then on the second day of classes a teacher asks a question and looks at todd and he panics and neil’s behind him and he must notice because he answers in todd’s stead

and then when todd gets a little lost trying to find where the soccer practice was neil’s the one who finds him and walks him to practice

and neil’s on the team and he’s so fucking hot when he gets competitive and if todd himself wasnt playing todd knows he’d be distracted - luckily having an older brother has ensured that todd is nothing less than fiercely competitive in things he knows he’s good at

that doesnt mean that when practice ends he doesnt hurriedly walk away, pretending he doesnt notice neil approaching, to calm himself down and prepare himself to face post soccer neil

he volunteers to help clean up solely so he doesnt have to see neil

neil doesn't get the hint and stays back to help

todd spends more time doodling neil’s name on his notebook than homework that night and thats when he realizes that his small teeny tiny crush may be not so small nor teeny tiny

and at first todd is very very very determined to ignore it

he stops himself from glancing back at neil or somehow finding him everywhere

he erases all his neil perry themed doodles

but neil doesn’t stop being pretty, the absolute asshole

nor kind nor sweet

and everytime he notices todd is alone (which is always) he comes to sit next to him - he invites him to study with his friends - he answers questions directed at todd in class

honestly he’s a fucking asshole ( theres no way he doesn’t know that he’s gorgeous and sweet and like a dream come alive and there’s no way he’s not using his evil powers to make sure todd thinks about him way more than he should )

and in the end todd’s half in love with him

ignoring his feelings dont work so the only thing todd has is to stop liking him

so he starts watching neil more because surely he cant be completely perfect surely he’ll have one habit that will be something todd hates - maybe he’s a sweater hater

neil is not a sweater hater - and he looks really cute in his stupid sweaters turns out

he’s also actually perfect

he’s kind, friendly, funny - he helps people, he wrinkles his nose when he’s concentrating, he runs his hands through his hair when he’s frustrated

and todd should be furious but now he’s just resigned

the perfect idea actually comes from neil’s friends in the end

todd’s there studying, minding his own business, trying to pretend that neil coming over earlier and asking if he wants to sit with his friends didn’t send his poor poor heart on fire practically

he overhears two of them - charlie and knox he thinks their names are - talking about how one of them (knox) fell in love too quickly and said one of them (knox) replies that actually “i didn’t fall in love with Nancy, Charlie” “yeah because she shot you down before you could”

its genius

todd just has to ask neil out

a tiny part of todd, that he immediately ignores, wonders what it would be like if neil shot him a sweet smile and said “yes i’d love to be your boyfriend”

“woah who’s got you smiling like that?” neil’s voice comes, breaking his neil being hopelessly in not quite love - because todd was not in love - with todd daydreams

neil laughs when todd stares at him wide eyed and points out that he’d left his pen here and that todd had been supporting a very sappy look - in nicer words

todd feels heat rush to his face and he shakes his head denying that he was thinking of anyone neil doesn’t look like he believes him but he nods and todd remembers his new genius plan

ask neil out and get rejected and thus fall out of not quite love with him

todd also ignores the part of his brain that tells him heartbreak is a vicious thing because of course his heart wont break he’s not in love

“H-hey Neil?” Todd asks quietly as Neil moves to go back to his friends.

“Yeah? What’s up?” Neil replies immediately, turning back to face Todd with his bright smile. Todd glances around making sure no one’s looking.

“Um.. this weekend... do you maybe wanna go somewhere...? W-with me, I mean.” Oh, sorry Todd. I already have plans. Maybe you could join my friends and me instead? I’d love to be your friend.

Todd’s waiting for those words to spill out of Neil’s rather kissable looking mouth. For Neil to kindly let him down and state that he only wants to be-

“Y-yeah, I’d love to.” Neil’s smile is blinding and that combined with the pink on his cheeks makes Todd want to reach over and see if his mouth is actually as kissable as it looks. He doesn’t do that. Instead he gapes unattractively because did Neil just agree? Did Neil just-

Oh.

Well that didn’t go as planned.

But Todd can’t bring himself to be disappointed because the small part of Todd that had hoped Neil would like him back is singing. He’s helpless to do anything but smile back at Neil as Neil’s friends call him back and he leaves.

He watches, still not a hundred percent processing that Neil had agreed to go on a date with him, as Neil leans in and whispers something frantically to his friends, his smile still there. His friends whoop and clap him on the back and Charlie catches Todd looking and smirks at him and Todd realizes that Neil must be telling them about their date.

He ducks his head down, wondering if Neil’s friends reaction meant that Neil might have had a bit of a crush on Todd too. And though he can’t understand why he would when he’s so out of Todd’s league, he can’t help but be pleased by it.

Todd stares at his half done math homework and then flips to a clean page in his notebook and starts writing.

He has a date to plan out.

All thoughts of how to get over Neil leave his mind as he debates whether dinner and a movie is too basic. Instead, plans on how to properly woo Neil start to form.

He may be a teeny tiny bit in love.

Neil Salonen Initially Contacts D.C. Moonies for "Business" in 1967

Since the 60s, Salonen’s testimony was that he was first led to the Unification Church center because of a potential business deal...

One day, Neil Salonen came to our door in regard to our business projects. I was lecturing the Principle that evening, and I invited him to stay and hear it. Eventually, he also joined the Unified Family. About the same time, I lectured to Linna (Miller) Rapkins and Marie Ang, who were cousins; to Linda (Marchant) Perry and Nanette (Semha) Doroski, who were friends; and to many others, some of whom worked with us for short or long periods of time.

In 1969 Father came again to America, this time with True Mother since it was now the second seven-year course and the True Parents had been established. This time they blessed 13 couples in Washington, a great surprise to everyone, since in those days we thought the blessing was far in the future. In 1970 Miss Kim again visited Korea. As Father was preparing for the 777 Couples blessing that year, she suggested several American couples send their pictures to Father for matching. She wrote back that he had approved Anne and George Edwards, Farley and Betsy Jones, and Neil and me, from among the Washington members. Accordingly, in October of 1970, we were blessed in Korea.

An Interview with Mr. Neil Albert Salonen, the President of the Freedom Leadership Foundation, Inc. (1971):

Han Joo Cha: Mr. Salonen, what was you exact motive to join the Unified Family? And what was your religious background?

Neil A. Salonen: I was raised as a Lutheran in New York where I went to Sunday School for many years and was confirmed in that Lutheran Church. But when I went to college I found that the Christianity I had been taught was not adequate to answer my questions about life and to give me true purpose and direction.

So I turned away from the church, and became an agnostic. Since I was studying engineering at Cornell University, I became totally dedicated to science; I believed that everything had a scientific explanation, therefore I only accepted those things which I could logically and physically prove. I experienced many different kinds of life, and I had friends from all strata of American society.

But nowhere could I find a fulfilling goal or life-style, which would help me realize my potential. On Easter Sunday 1967, I went to church for the first time after long absence. From the joy that I saw on the other faces in the congregation, I thought that I must have missed something in Christianity, that I must again study Christian doctrine to see what vital element I had overlooked before. I received communion and I was very moved. The next day, a friend invited me to come visit the Unified Family Center in Washington, DC, but they did not invite for spiritual training, rather to investigate the business program that some members were undertaking at that time.

Because I was very materialistic and business-minded I was attracted. I may not have been attracted, if they had witnessed to me directly. But when I found that this group had such high spirit and atmosphere, I wanted to know the philosophy they shared. I studied the Principle, and was extremely impressed, especially with Chapter III (The Mission of Jesus) which I could immediately accept -- it clarified so many problems in Christianity. I also accepted Chapter II (The Fall of Man) though it sounds strange to many ears, it made sense to me. And I could see that this would be the explanation of how evil had come into the world. Although I am not a deeply spiritual person, still I could see logically how the Principle had changed the lives of the members of the Family, and could help me to change my life. So after the studying and living at the church for a month, I joined and continued to struggle for six months after that.

Finally, I passed my crisis point and became fully dedicated. From that time I never hesitated even though I may have made mistakes, my heart has never hesitated in fulfilling our Family's responsibilities. Because I was originally interested in business I continued to investigate the possibilities of developing business enterprises. In my first year, because our group was small we did not undertake any major project. Instead, I conducted the witnessing for our Center. In 1968, I became Director of Business Enterprise for our Center. In that time we formed a small printing company (the Unified Press) and with the part time efforts many members were able to earn a small profit. In 1969, after our Master's visit, I formed FLF devoting my full time to our anti-communist work. In 1970 I went into the mission field for six months in Denver, Colorado to have the experience of working with a local center and helping them to organize and build their church.

But he tells a different story in 2014... (and maybe both stories are true, to some degree)

“I was in Washington DC when I met some members of our church that brought me to their center where they were living. In those days, you studied the Divine Principle very slowly, just one lecture a week; it took weeks and weeks. The woman who later became my wife was my teacher. She began teaching and everything seemed so clear.”
