okay now that maws has officially introduced the evil alternate superman concept into the show I think it’s necessary to point out that across nearly every dc media revolving around Superman going rogue (not including ones where his upbringing is changed) the tipping point for his every downfall is almost always the death of Lois Lane.

Superman The Animated Series - Brave New Metropolis - Lois is doing a story on Intergang and getting too close to exposing them, so they bomb her car. Clark takes this as a realization that he’s fighting a war, and so has to take extreme measures to protect people; these extreme measures include teaming up with Lex Luthor for the sake of his vast resources and establishing a dystopian police state within Metropolis, however it’s important to note that Luthor abused his newfound authority to that dystopian extent, and Clark was genuinely unaware of the city’s true conditions.

Injustice - The Joker tricks Superman into killing [a pregnant] Lois and destroying Metropolis by detonating a nuclear bomb she is strapped to. Superman goes mad with grief and rage, kills the Joker in that infamous fist-through-the-chest-heart-ripping panel, and continues to slowly deteriorate into an amoral dictator over the course of five years. Eventually he establishes a borderline-fascist regime called One Force Earth, ironically intended to “enforce global peace,” but at the cost of the entire world’s personal freedoms (STAS also had an episode about this, featuring Mala and General Zod as the dictators in question).

MAWS is heavily focused on Clark and Lois’ relationship and his status as an alien as elements of his becoming Superman–and given that we’ve already been shown glimpses of the multiverse, alternate Super-tyrants, and an entire legion of Loises who more or less survived their respective Clarks, I think it’s very possible that some of the Soups we see in Mxy’s orb are Supermen who’ve either lost their Loises or their upbringing with the Kents—Supermen who have utterly lost or utterly lacked the very elements that this show emphasizes as being what makes Clark who he is, and I think it would add so much more tension between Clark and Lois and the rest of the world to know that their safety and his sanity basically hinges on this one woman he’s fallen into major puppy-love with.

Superman: Mindscape

The clouds of the grey sky descending on to The City Of Metropolis poking all of his six senses as he enters his office flipping and the window open as he flew into the blue sky soaring upward into the upper and upper atmosphere.The sunlight radiating on to his skin as it is absorbing in to his skin shaking him to the core something felt off to him as he spun out of control and he did a flip his mind is being overwhelmed with feelings of pure rage.

Clark stops closing his eyes he is attempting to gain control of his emotions more but the attack occurs yet again in full force causing him to lose focus and he goes tumbling to earth in a meteoric descent back to the ground forming a crater.

Hitting the ground a loud scream goes off in to the air leaving no room for any sounds as he cries writing in pain throughout his body he can’t help him self giving in to the pain of it all and he helps himself up to his height smashing a rock.

It broke in to a million pieces crumbling in to ground everything is fallen apart for him he is at a stand still smashing his fist in to the ground and he feels a new play enter his mind frame a absolute person who is deep in for me.

He stares upward in to the sky the sunlight shoots in to his eyes drowning down In to the depth of his mind traveling deeper past his subconscious and inner mind smoldering each and every area as it in a dark mess of pure scars.

His brain spiraling through the inner woven caves of his mid space mindscape landing at the bottom of the staircase as I reach to grab the door knob turning it to the side as it opens up and the door swings to the side of the room.

I walk in to the room with a airy kind of feel sweeping over me I see a mirror as I walk to it I see Superman staring back at me the real Clark Kent is staring right back at me in amazement of it all and I smirk with gleeful expression.

The facial expression of sheer horror covers his face watching him slam his fist on to the mirror window, using my finger I lick spit off of it swiping it on to my eyebrows slicking both to the side and I watch as his fury shift to a new range.

Clark Kent’s eyes attention spinning through the room he caught the endless emotion of his torment assuming control until a green gas seeps through the vent in to the room encircling him diving in to his knows as he is it.

He starts to roll back coughing as he backs up to the wall shook to his core his back hit the wall searing in pain his slid down to the floor and his head begins to pain and with a heavy fever.

The fever consumes him spreading through his body down bai nerves as the electrical current flowing a wave of painful sensation to rock his inner self Clark’s eyes start to glow red showing off his true power to full potential.

“Where…where am I? Who the fuck are you?

Help me! Set me free.” Clark Yells.

“Keep acting like a temperamental child.” I say waving him off.

“Face me, I said look at me and obey me.” I command him.

“Bastard! You are my property now.” I inform him.

“I am The Man Of Steel a beacon of hope.” He states.

“You are a pussy, a mere joke then nothing bitch.” I sternly reply.

“Release me…relinquish control” he howls

“You have no say in this, no power over me and you can’t win” I wave him to the side

“Give me one reason you are so confident “

He stomps his foot and crosses his arms.

“I demand your body back…my body I say.”

Throwing a brick at the glass.

“Way to go! Shattering glass how immature “I offend him.

“Brat!” He says holding on the wall next to him.

“Watch my palms do the work”

“What the…”

“I see you again…boo”

“You reconstituted the mirror”

“Magic…mwahahaha”

“You are on another level “

“Super pussy “

“Leave me”

“I am your God”

“I said focus “

“You won”

“Ugh!”

The room is swept with kryptonite gas over whelming him with pure disgust rushing in to his mid his world collapses as the gas forms a cage over him and kryptonite chains lock him in.

Bruce Wayne would NEVER stand for this slander. Bring back Bleeding Heart Kansas Clark. I miss when the world wasn't so dark and negative.

Sure Superman ain't perfect. But goddamn it, maybe we need him to be. I caught myself thinking negatively of him because of the over-projection of this alternative self/universe pattern in the recent movies/games. I need to believe in incorruptible good again.

I miss my pure good Superman and moody Bat duo.

Evil Superman

I was not aware how big of a trope this was as I began planning my own version of the "Evil Superman" story last year. I am embarrassed but also not completely sorry to say that I thought it was such a unique idea for me xp.

I learned how overused the Evil Superman trope was after engaging with the MAWS fandom. Fans of "My Adventures With Superman" appreciate the return of Superman as a good-natured hero, rather than a jaded antihero (or even villain, in some depictions of similar characters). Many posts call this version of Clark Kent a "refreshing" one.

I still love the Evil Superman trope and do fully intend to continue my writing, but I also felt it was important to look at what types of "evil" have come before. By doing so, I hoped to find out what people like, what people dislike, what's been done before, and how I can tell a story that follows the trope but still maintains originality.

I watched "Invincible," (spoilers ahead) and y'all. Omni-Man is my favorite evil character from anything. The writers did an amazing job of letting the suspense build behind his motives for having killed the...dammit I forgot their names, but Off-Brand Justice League. The entire time, I wondered if maybe there would be some sort of redemption, but no. His motive was based in a "master race" ideology, but then somehow he got even MORE horrible by putting the Vultrim Empire above his family's well-being - going so far as to beat his son half-to-death. I do believe he has genuine feelings, but it was beautiful to see how twisted he was.

But as I was watching Invincible, I realized. There are Evil Supermans, but...

Are there evil Lois Lanes?

Whatever the answer is, I want to write the story of an evil Lois Lane.

People forget that things are like, made in social contexts. Like, with a lot of criticisms of superheros, especially with them being tyrannical, unneeded or killing more people then they save, have a lot to do with how superheros are attached to military and police.

Like, "superman doesn't seem to exist for a clear reason, doesn't save anyone, and causes massive casualties, in a fight where it feels like he's fighting over humanity more then he is fighting for them" is a valid and common criticism of Man of Steel. But it's a criticism that can't be separated from the fact that superman lives in a world like our own, and is inherently linked with a lot of institutions in American society doing that irl. Like, if this movie was in space, or a fantasy world, or if it wasn't coming out in the 2010s, I don't think it would have hit the same way.

Superman: The Swirl resurfaces

One day I am the park having a picnic with a friend a high pitch sound swoops through the area.

It transforms shape into a heart loop over and over again flood emotions of love, lust and so much more.

A portal opens up with a soft, sweet, and sexy voice emitting out for me to come it beckons me.

“Lawrence come, come to me and be mine” I can hear them say,

A ring floats from the portal decorated in a glowing see of pink aura to my face it circles my head.

“Take the ring and be my warrior.” The lady calls to me slipping tight onto my ring finger.

My mind goes blank leading me into an open portal the hole closes ceiling it behind me to my end.

Star Sapphire’s stand by my side in awe of it all the queen uses her powers to force both of my feet upward.

She leans in kissing me uniting our rings as one her powers transfer to me leaving her my slave.

“Oh Master Lawrence! I love you”

“Yes I am your one and only ruler”

“I am your King”

A second pink portal opens up revealing the frame, form and shape of a man with a tone body of a god.

The man walks into my kingdom pushing one foot onto the floor feeling a deep type of weakness in him.

He feels his strength relinquish while his mind reels into the room calling him ever forth into the brink.

Clark’s mind settles into a deep hazy fog in his mind, his thoughts begin to wane and his thoughts dwindle.

His eyes grow dull the luster of sparkles are vanishing from his eyes but Clark can’t stop he walks further in.

The more he goes in he can’t help but notice his will disappearing stride by stride he falls to the waste side.

The Star Sapphire float into the sky gather over my castle they prepare ready for war against.

They rally of women race across the sky to take Superman head on their rings glow on with light.

They super power rings work together shoot him head on Superman blast into the wall of a magical wall.

“Uuuuuuggggghhhhhhhh!”

“Will you yield to me Superman?”

“I will never give into you”

“Oh you think so?”

“Protocol Super bitch”

“Uuuuuggghhhhhh”

“Chain him down”

“Kryptonite…uuuuuggggghhhh”

“Fuck you! Bastard”

I emerge from the pitch black throne as the dust settles I spot him smacking him hard across the face.

Clark spit at me so I decide to initiate his break down kicking the green rock under his ass.

Another kick hits him in the nuts so hard he cries in pain from the pressure of the blow and falls to his knees.

“Pathetic! Weak little pussy”

“Fuck you!”

“I will own you one way or the other”

Broken Heroic Will Part 1 - 2

Clark Kent is on his way home when a giant screen appears blaring over the entire city of The Great Metropolis showcasing a group of people rushing in to the Museum of Metro Technology and Science.

The main one stops cold facing both of the other men snapping his fingers they follow his orders informing him them to remove all of their guns and guards the space with the front door barricade.

The man quickly makes intake of the area all surrounding him when he spots the odd object sliding across the room he stops shy of the glass fading his hand as it pushes in through the glass and grabbing it.

The mind altering agent boggles a bit shook him to his core then spun about feeling all of his senses as he looks up knowing who else is here because the power level of the Man Of Steel.

He spins in mid air like a drill he burrows so deep in to the ceiling as it cracks up in a huge smash he continues to drive down to me in fashion the blue, red and yellow are a dazzling sight.

I giggle a bit throwing and catching the old no ancient object in his hand flipping it back and forth as it burns up with light shining it then absorbing it in to his skin with a strong vibration empowering him.

Superman is overwhelmingly not shocked at all to see me then throws a super hard shaft of a nightmare punch sending him flying so much craziness across the room hitting the wall.

His body sliding to the bottom of the room I glee with excitement laughing so loud in the main hall as let the noise echo in to his ears as he it is excruciating shaking his one body.

The man uses some magic creating a circle of power in the air creating a box out of thin air sending box decorating in Christmas like paper and a bow tie on top of it glowing in a aura it lands next to him.

The main raises his hand wiggling his finger as sprinkles of fire transferring him from the museum and leaving Superman is lost as his whole senses comes back to reality he signs heavily.

He is groggy picking up a box anger rage of himself unwrapping the bow tie, trashing the Christmas paper and unlocking the top of the box and the magic lifts upward in to the air.

The magic rains over him changing a multi array of color on to his body becoming more in to Kryptonite getting weaker and weaker as his energy draining his power from his body.

The box swirls on to his body as he began to float into the air traveling without his will or consent shooting him in to the sky he flew in to a magical hole transporting him in to a new dimension.

Crash landing in to a massively huge crater

leaving him in pain as he crying begging him for help as he rolls over in pain and some tears in his eyes as the man walks off in to the distant.

Clark tries to throw a punch catching both of his hands in his palms, Superman firmly taking it in his hands twisting them to the side and forcing him to his knees it is very obvious.

“How on earth are you doing this?”

“Oh Poor Superman!”

“Stop mocking me”

“Or What?”

“Super pussy”

“That is not my….”

“Not you what?”

Captain America aka Steve Rogers is on the beach ignoring everyone else a weird strangers palm lands on his wide shoulder holding it tightly and swinging him in to a gigantic bird cage.

Steve looks horrified watching an evil looking Superman with a sadistic expression arms crossed and ready to battle with darker like intentions he speeds over to the cage and raising.

He shook it over his head before he is proceeding to throw it fifty miles away in to the rock formations behind him and causing hell on earth with shamble of rubbles spread wide.

I stepped in to a horrible disaster area that is worthy of a construction site crew horror is on full display when Captain America is able to escape flipping in to the air he does a super hero landing.

A shield is thrown in to one rock as if it is so light weight starts to ricochet sending it hit me head on and I go rolling to the floor in total pain and he stares down at me into total disappointment.

I can feel all of my attention on him as when Captain America descending down right in front of me but Superman rushes to my side blocking his fist in a swift attack and gave a good punch to the gut.

Steve is struggling on the floor completely in a stems of hazy fog clouding him up all else fades disappeared in to nether world of his own mind and he is falling in to a life of my consuming him.

Clark grabs him jolting in to the air doing a semi back flip he slams his body in a fatal bone crushing pain his eyes roll back in to his socket and he is knocked in to a deep slumber.

Clark is unconscious waking up tied down to the chair he is stripped of his clothes and unable to move the fear in his eyes is clear that he is broken their is no way coming back from this.

“Why Clark? “

“Just what?”

“I am Master Lawrence’s vessel “

“No Clark”

“Stop it”

“Submit”

“I cannot “

“Feel the crushing pain of defeat “

“You cannot force me too”

“Too what Steve?”

“You can’t win”

Most deconstructions of superman don't really have a lot to say about the character imo. We've all seen multiple stories where he or a thinly veiled expy is an evil dictator who views humanity as inferior. The problem is that that is never something Clark would want or believe, so the minute something goes wrong he immediately becomes a different character in these takes.

I think deconstructions should instead lean in to the overprotective or even paternalistic qualities superman sometimes shows. He so desperately wants to save everyone. He sees that as his vocation, his responsibility, his calling, and perhaps as a way of repaying the species that raised him as their own and the planet that became his home after the destruction of Krypton. What if he takes that to its logical extreme? What if he starts treating humanity like children whom he adores but who cannot be trusted to take care of themselves?

It could start out small, like him helping other heroes even when they don't want him to, or making them sit a fight out so he can finish it by himself, but it could escalate so easily. If Superman wants to end corruption and Clark Kent's articles aren't being listened to, he can force the issue with a simple "because I said so." If he wants a certain policy passed, he can make legislatures do it. If he wants a dangerous or aggressive person to stop behaving a certain way, he can canonically lobotomize them better than any brain surgeon. If Superman wants to stop a war, it would be simple for him to destroy the weapons and force the countries involved to sign a treaty. Eventually he'd be the one deciding everything. Sure, he wouldn't micromanage every problem, but if he disapproves of how it's being handled he will show up and tell you. Earth becomes his own personal garden, carefully tended and protected, a large-scale version of the city of Kandor. He wouldn't even need to become a planet wide dictator, content to let humanity do whatever it likes so long as it's not potentially hurting anyone.

I also think it's interesting to explore how humanity would respond. We already know how reckless Lois can be, because she knows Superman will save her if she gets in over her head. Imagine the entirety of humanity feeling like that. Why worry about gun safety if Superman will catch any stray bullets? Why not jump off a cliff if Superman will catch you? Why pay attention while driving if Superman will prevent any accidents? It could become a vicious cycle, where Superman becomes more and more overbearing as humanity gets more and more careless, reinforcing his idea that humans shouldn't be allowed to make risky or important decisions for themselves. People might adore or even worship him, which he thinks is silly but doesn't discourage, or they might rebel, which he sees as equivalent to moody teenagers acting out and gently but firmly puts a stop to.

Red Son did this pretty well, but I'd be interested to see a non-Soviet take on it lmao

Superman: Descent In To The Abyss Of Hypnosis

It is a strange windy day in Metropolis when the cities giant clock goes off ringing in all of the masses.

Clark Kent is at his desk working for Perry on a huge spectacle of a story one worth a Pulitzer.

His mind freezes on command when the odd wave of euphoric sensations keep him on hold.

His body shook to its core a seed is solely and firmly implanted in his mind dropping in to his core.

The seed splits in to three copies planting in to his conscious, subconscious and inner mind.

Clark’s body goes limp instantly the chair is pushing back till it hits the floor and his feet go in the air.

Darkness settles in his mind with light shine down on him in single line showcasing Clark free falling.

Echoes of the outside world surrounding him in real life with Lois, Perry, Jimmy, Ma and Pa.

The voices grow stronger and stronger in a rush hitting him head on sending him flying it into the wall.

“Where am I? What’s happening?”

“Mwahahahahaha”

“Show yourself”

“Address me properly “

“I don’t understand”

“Soon you will strip off your disillusionment”

“You will willingly be mine”

“That could never, will never “

“Who are you trying to convince me or you ?”

His body bounces back and forth crashing in to his mind he goes further and further away.

Finally! His body crashes in to the ground in a rock bottom causing a schism in his mind.

Clark stands up in front of mirror watching his body split in to two in one end Superman took off in to the sky.

Clark Kent is left alone shackling him down in the middle of his consciousness the power of the energy draining.

Clark knees buckle in forcing him to the floor he breaks one minute at a time his memory is shattering to piece.

The pain eradicates all of his minds barriers destroying Clark to his core I appear in the shadows.

Reaching for his neck I grab it yanking it all the way back I force my lips on to his all go his resistance fades.

I let him go to his disgust he spits out with an exclaim of vile a boom reverberating back at him.

My hand goes so fast before his eyes he can’t see smacking him across the face till he cries.

“Poor Clark! Poor Baby”

“Bite me”

“Watch it!”

“Once I free myself “

Unpopular Opinion:

I like Bruce Wayne/Batman and all, but I can’t help but roll my eyes whenever DC does some alternative continuities and of all the heroes that become more antagonistic, he comes out unscathed and is one of the most irrevocably good guys that has to take it upon himself to fight his former friends/associates/family.

(Spoilers under the cut.)

Earth 2? That’s mostly Thomas Wayne junior after the first crisis.

The Batman who Laughs? That’s pretty much The Joker injecting a portion of himself into Bruce’s brain and overriding/mutating his personality.

Justice Lords? I don’t know much about their comic versions if they have one, but in the JSL Animated Series, the Batman of that world was the one who redeemed himself and turned against his team mates.

Injustice? Batman will always be the good one and always do the right thing even if he was the one who killed the Joker in a what if scenario because he is humble enough to accept his punishment and even the good Superman he recruits admits could have done the same thing as his world’s Superman and yadda yadda yadda.

DC vs Vampires? They seriously made Batman the only one of the golden trio that never got turned, the one who is trusted to figure out the solution to combat the vampires, and made Dick Grayson/Nightwing the King of the Vampires??

The CW version if the DCU? That Batman only showed up once for all I know, and was a failed attempt to criticize Zack Snyder’s take on the SC universe.

White Knight? Batman was only seen as the antagonist for barely the first few issues before teaming up with Jack Napier to take down the bigger threat, was the hero again when Joker returned, and is currently still a good guy (I don’t hate it, but I feel the role reversal of Batman and Joker’s usual dynamic could have been explored more.)

The Dark Knights of Steel? This one I will let slide on its thin ice since the “Kal-El” who stabbed Bruce was later revealed to be a white martian scout or something. I don’t want to suspect the writers intending the Els to be the antagonists but backtracking and introducing the White martians when reception to yet another antagonistic Superman was negative — and who knows? Maybe they purposely played into that to make the reveal over the actual antagonists more interesting—, but still.

In my opinion, Zack Snyder’s versions of the Trinity was the most successful of introducing a Bruce Wayne/Batman who could be seen as a well-meaning antagonist who was —and later recognized— that he was wrong. (and redeemed himself later too.)

Wonder Woman also gets some of this special treatment at times (most of her Superwomen counter parts are shifted to Lois Lane or Donna Troy, and even Mary Marvel at some point; in the animated adaptation of Injustice, she has reservations from the start and later turns against Superman despite heavily influencing him in the games and comics.)

Why is Superman usually the go-to for making/twisting a genuinely good, idealistic and upright hero who would never abandon his morals into an easily influenced powerhouse who totally will sacrifice/ditch his moral compass when given the opportunity? Some may excuse some of these iterations as being placed with the wrong setting and people who raised him in story, but that could easily work for Diana of Themyscira and Bruce Wayne too if given the opportunity. With the latter two, usually they still develop into the recognizable heroes we know and love, while at best Clark is manipulated and misguided and at worst he willingly embraces his newfound villainy.

Bruce Wayne/Batman is not better than Clark Kent/Superman. Neither is Wonder Woman.

In my eyes, and from what I can tell from most of the golden/silver/bronze age of the comic book era, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman’s character arcs and story development lead them to be seen as EQUALS. Hence their most popular dynamic as a TRIO.

Is Superman arguably the most powerful one? Yes. Is Wonder Woman arguably the most skilled in combat? Yes. Is Batman arguably the most intelligent one? Yes. Do they all have strong convictions and morals? Yes. Do they ALL have weaknesses and the capacity to have momentary lapses of judgement? Yes. Do they all stand strong as both individuals and united teammates? Yes.

Am I saying that the Beware the Superman trope is an overused one? Yes and no. Yes I am sick of it popping up almost everywhere in most western media. No, I don’t think it is without potential to be used as an actually useful plot device/character arc, especially if it extends beyond the “Superman” character template and applies to all manner of superheroes.

That’s just my opinion though.
