You know what really sucks about art history and AI?
These days, I can't go on Google and look up "Renaissance" or "Rococo" or "Baroque" art without the results being absolutely littered with shitty, modernized AI pictures. If I'm studying 18th-century portraiture, I'm looking for themes and motifs specific to the period (composition, shape, emotionality, emphasis, etc), so I can better understand the cultural values of an era, and then deconstruct and experiment with them in my own art. I don't want to see some generic hot girl in an inaccurate Marie Antoinette dress, or a Chad Napoleon that's even more ridiculous than the Jacques-Louis David propaganda. Jesus Christ. This garbage isn't even comparable in how awful it is, and it's infecting everything.
For reference, on the left is the work of Artemisia Gentileschi, an actual Baroque artist (click for full size), up against "Baroque Style" from a website selling AI prints. Ew. I won't even explain how Not Baroque the image on the right is, it's so bad it's actually criminal.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Examining historical art periods in modern works is one thing, but this shit isn't even trying. This is another reason why AI isn't art. You can click a button and make something aesthetically pleasing, but you learn nothing. You evoke nothing. You say nothing. There is not a single ounce of value to be had here, other than demonstrating our culture's most superficial ideals, your complete lack of personality, and absolutely no foundational knowledge or intuition. It's a joke is what it is. Artists are trying to do actual work over here, you're just a waste of air.

Since I want to read about the Beauforts but Nathen Amin's book on the Beauforts is probably going to annoy me, I've not heard anything about John Brunton's (it just came out) and G. L. Harriss's book on Cardinal Beaufort is prohibitively expensive, I turned my attention to the reviews for Harriss's book and decided to write to share some bits.
Richard G. Davies's review starts out with a tidbit bound to make me happy:
Tumblr media
I'm not sure that this is true - David Rundle notes, for example, that the clause in Henry V's will is confusing. But at the very least, I think, there was enough there to make parliament feel like Humphrey had a case, even if it was an uncertain one.
Tumblr media
lol.
James L. Gillespie's review has this tidbit that made me sit up and go WHAT
This book, with P. A. Johnson's Richard, Duke of York (Oxford, 1988), does much to refine our understanding of the politics of Henry VI's reign albeit Gloucester is viewed very unsympathetically. Ralph Griffith's [sic] forthcoming biography of Duke Humphrey may yet redress the balance.
The review was published in 1990 so I'm guessing the biography fell through but MAN. This is actually the second time I've come across a reference to a forthcoming book on Humphrey that didn't eventuate (there's an article from 2011, iirc, that says it'll feature in a forthcoming edited collection on Humphrey but of course it didn't). Which is disappointing and frustrating because I feel one of the biggest problems with Humphrey's current reputation is that apart from the very expensive, academic and literature patronage-focused works of Saygin and Petrina (which are now also out of print), there hasn't been proper academic work on Humphrey since the Vickers bio in 1908 which I think a lot of modern historians - especially those who present themselves as progressive - ignore because "ew Victorian historians".
Tumblr media
also lol
Gillepsie concludes with
Tumblr media
So true, bestie.

Still, could be worse. The Bedford Inventories are nearly US$200 second-hand these days.

Tumblr media
“Hey, Dave is it okay if my cousin comes over? He’s in town for a few days.” You call out from the sofa as David stands in the kitchen grabbing a snack as he stares at his phone.
As he walks back over, he lifts his head up to see you looking at him. “Sorry, I zoned out.” He chuckles, watching you roll your eyes as he sits down beside you. “What was the question?”
“My cousin is in town for work, is it alright if he comes over for a bit?” You question and David leans back, surprised by your question. “It’s okay if not, I’ll go meet him for coffee when he has a chance.” You quickly add, trying to hide your nerves.
“No no, of course!” He rambles, catching your eyes and seeing the smile he loves return across your lips. “I’m just surprised, you don’t talk about your family much.” He comments and you look across to Natalie whose eyes widen. “Not that it’s a bad thing, I just,”
“David, stop there before you dig a hole any deeper.” Natalie warns him and he obliges.
“Sorry,” He mutters to you, burying his head into the crook of your neck as you chuckle at his scruff along your skin.
Lifting your hand up, you bury it into his hair, hearing him groan at the comfort of it. “You don’t have to be sorry, my family are pretty private.” You explain as he leans back, focusing on you. “They just don’t really do social media and with my job, they prefer to keep away from it all.” You shrug your shoulders.
“I get that.” He nods along. “But yeah, I’d love to meet him, what’s his name? Just so I don’t call him dude the entire time.” He jokes and you smile.
“His name is Chris.” You tell him as you glance over at Natalie who tries to stop her smile from getting any wider. “And I think you’ll get on really well.”
David smiles proudly at the comment and sits upright. “I’m sure we will, baby.” He kisses your cheek before grabbing his laptop and resumes editing. “Is he coming today or tomorrow, as I know some of the guys are coming over to hang out later.”
Looking down at your phone, you see a new message from Chris. “He’s free this afternoon. Could meet a few of my friends he hears so much about.” You tell him, seeing him nod as you text him back.
*
“Y/n’s cousin, Chris, eh?” Corinna speaks up as she collapses down on the sofa, Carly and Erin following in with Starbucks for Jason. “Is he cute?” She asks you, smirking as she raises an eyebrow.
“Ew, you can’t ask her that, he’s her cousin.” Erin says as Carly films. “Besides, didn’t you say he’s like forty?”
You nod in response. “He’s in his late thirties but acts like he’s in his twenties. Probably to do with his job.”
“What does he do?” Jason questions as he sips his coffee, sitting on the edge of the sofa as David walks in and everyone turns to look at him. “Hold that question, Y/n. Dave, what’re you wearing?”
David looks down at his checked trousers. “What, they’re comfy.” He states.
“Not those,” Jason sighs. “the top.”
“Oh, this,” He chuckles. “it’s comfy too.”
You bury your face in your hands, realising this isn’t only going to be entertaining but also embarrassing for the both of you. “Why do you have a photo of us printed across an entire shirt, babe?” You ask him.
“It’s my favourite photo of us.” He proudly admits, smiling to you as a series of ‘aws’ sound throughout the room. “And I want your cousin to know I care about you a lot, by wearing your face.”
“Well, it’s your funeral.” You mutter as Natalie looks over and takes out David’s camera, waiting for the moment to arrive.
“Anyway, back to you Y/n, what does he do?” Jason repeats his question, turning his focus back onto you.
Shuffling in your seat, you check your phone to see he’s about ten minutes away. “Well, he’s trying to make it as an actor currently.”
Jason nods along. “Oh acting, huh? Brave choice. Not the easiest to make it into.”
“Yeah, I know. He’s landed a few small roles in recently, so he’s doing alright.” You comment, knowing Natalie is trying to hide her laugh and pride for you. “Oh shit,” You look down to see he’s texted again. “he’s here.”
Corinna shuffles and pulls down her top slightly and flips her hair back whilst everyone vlogging prepares themselves. David rushes over, wiping his hands repeatedly over his trousers.
“Oh and one more thing, no comments about our sex life. That I don’t want my cousin leaving with graphic details of.” You point to everyone who nods in response.
“Do I look okay?” David asks you quietly as you start to walk toward the front door. “I really want him to approve of me, like I know he’s your cousin but he’s still family.” He rambles.
You try not to squeal at how adorable he sounds and instead you walk over and kiss him softly. “He’ll love you, trust me. All you have to do is be yourself and you’ll get along just fine.” You reassure him.
David exhales deeply before walking over and sitting down beside Jason. “He’s just a guy, Dave.” Jason pats his back as David shakes his hands, hearing you opening the front door.
“Hey, I’m so glad you could make it!” You happily greet Chris, bringing him into a hug.
“Since when did you get so tall?” He jokes with you as you roll your eyes. “I’m glad we could hang out, it’s been too long.”
Inside of the living room, David tenses as he shoots Natalie a look as she holds the camera. “Why does he sound familiar?” David asks Jason who simply shrugs his shoulders.
“Come on in, David is excited to meet you.” You nudge Chris who follows in slowly. “Okay, so this is my cousin, Chris.” You keep your eyes on everyone as Chris walks in, fully in show as he waves.
“Hey guys,” He speaks up with a smile and you try to hold back your laugh as you watch jaws drop.
“Y/n,” Jason is the first to speak up as everyone else remains too stunned to talk. “your cousin Chris is, THE Chris Evans?” He questions.
You look up at Chris and then back to Jason. “Erm, yeah, I guess he is.” You say with a laugh. “Didn’t I mention that?”
“No, Y/n. We would’ve fuckin’ remembered if you did.” Erin rambles, trying to maintain her composure and remember the fact she is engaged.
“So, which one is David?” Chris asks, looking down to you.
A small smile forms on your lips as you roll on your heels. “Why don’t you take a guess?”
David can feel the heat rising to his cheeks as he remains in complete shock. He can barely progress the fact that you’re related to Captain America, let alone that he is stood in his living room and wants to meet him.
Chris follows the faces across the room until he lands on David. “I’m guessing he’s the guy wearing a picture of you both on his top?” Chris chuckles and David lifts his head up, looking as nervous as ever. “What’s up, dude?”
Still stunned, Jason nudges David to force a response out of him. “Hi Cap, I mean, Chris.” David stumbles over his words which you can’t help but smile at. In the last few years, you’ve watched your cousin grow as an actor and his fan base rise, David being one of them.
Walking over toward David, you rest your hand in his. “Hey, it’s okay. He’s a normal guy, really.” You quietly comfort him as his eyes widen.
“Babe, I don’t think you get it. He’s Captain America.” He whisper yells as Chris walks over.
“It’s true, Y/n. I am.” Chris adds and you roll your eyes, hearing David giggle excitedly.
*
Eventually, everyone settled down as Chris drank coffee and chatted about memories growing up. There was the occasional question about his acting roles, and the people he’s worked with, but mostly he just asked about everyone else.
You sat alongside David, holding his hand the entire time. He kept asking you to pinch him, just to make sure he wasn’t dreaming which you did repeatedly.
“You know, this makes sense now.” Carly blurts out and Chris raises an eyebrow.
“Oh yeah, how so?” He responds, leaning back as your eyes widen, wondering what she’s about to say.
“Well when we saw one of the Avengers movies, I think Corinna said if she met you the things she’d wanna do to you and-”
“Yeah let's not mention all those now, Carly.” Corinna cuts Carly off, flashing a smile to Chris.
“But Y/n just stayed quiet, like I thought she just preferred like the pink panther or something but no, you’re related.” She says proudly and Chris opens his mouth to correct her, but you subtly shake your head to him.
All of the cameras have now been put away as Chris gets ready to leave. “Seriously come by anytime, Chris.” Jason comments and everyone nods in agreement, making you smile proudly as you and David see him to his car.
“Well thanks, guys, it was great meeting you all.” He says happily. “And I’ll check out your videos once Y/n sends me the links.”
“Oh my god, Chris Evans is going to see our vlogs.” Erin quickly mutters to Carly in realisation.
Walking out from the house, you stand beside David as Chris sighs. “I’m glad I stopped by, kid. It’s good to see you doing so well out here.” Chris tells you and you can feel your heartwarming at his comment. “I know how rough it was initially for you.
“Yeah, it wasn’t easy. But I made some great friends who helped out a lot.” You glance over to David who can’t wipe his smile off his face.
“Well, you treat her well, David.” Chris steps forward, bringing David into a hug and David’s eyes widen as you take a quick photo. “Let me know when you’re back home for dinner sometime and bring David too.” Chris says as he hugs you tightly before walking back toward his car. “See you guys soon!”
“Bye Chris!” You wave to him, seeing David almost frozen on the spot. “Dave, you in there, baby?” You shake him lightly, watching as he turns to face you.
“Did I just dream that whole thing?” He asks once more and you chuckle, pinching his cheek. “Ow.” He mutters, rubbing his cheek. “So I really just met Chris Evans?”
“Yeah,” You tell him. “just you wait ‘til you watch the footage back, and realise what you wore.” You joke as you walk back inside as David swears under his breath.

Hey Doc
What’s your take on the antisemitism controversy in immortal hulk?
Hi. I haven’t been following that book of late but did read about this. As someone who has made more than my fair share of spelling mistakes, I’m willing to give Joe Bennet the benefit of the doubt. And anyone who’s been to the 47th street diamond district in Manhattan can attest to, lots of stores have Stars of David on their windows.
But...
This is what editors are for. Artist and writers are going to make mistakes. It’s the editors’ job to make sure such mistakes don’t make it to print. Just as it was with that issue of X-Men Gold, this is a situation where the editor(s) dropped the ball.
I don’t know much about Joe Bennet, but did get the chance to speak with Al Ewing and he is awesome. I’m very confident he doesn’t harbor anti-Jewish attitudes and feel sorry that he’s gotten dragged in to this controversy.
As for the editor, and marvel’s editor n chief... its long past time those jokers got sacked.

unusual mun questionnaire | repost, don’t reblog!
your current mood: melancholy, for another monday with a general feeling of not having completed what I had hoped to this weekend (namely replies and some personal projects)
the aesthetic of the place you’re in right now: outside- the sky is a uniform blanket grey and wind is blowing such that the trees are bowing beneath it. My window shutters are open for what little light is coming through, but my apartment is sealed tight. My heater is humming, and I’ve just put out my Christmas decor. I live alone, and Spotify is playing my top 2020 songs list. My kitchen table is a mess with work and papers. It’s comfortable, at least.
favorite lyrics of the last song you listened to: “These days, I've become quite the bed case, feel like I'm five-by-five. Do I want to save the world or just cut out its insides?” (Bed Case by Tancred, aka I KNOW THE SINGER LIKES FAITH LEHANE BECAUSE THERE’S NO WAY THIS SONG ISN’T ABOUT HER like it mentions five-by-five and comas and California like you ain’t getting past me)
your favourite poem / book: I’ve answered book so many times I’ll go with poems- (basic bitch in me says-) The Raven, but also Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night, and Death Be Not Proud
guilty pleasure: every pleasure is guilty if you have enough anxiety (but for reals, bubble baths, inca kola soda, and slowly eating all of the chocolate off of a ferrero rocher then pulling apart the wafer halves and then eating the hazelnut and then the two remaining pieces like a goddamn chocolate psychopath)
a quote from the last thing you watched: “ew, david!” (LOL there are too many quotes I could pick but that’s a good one)
favorite time of the year: winter, particularly the grey days, the crisp cold nights, and rain, rain, rain
the décor of your room: my bedroom looks like a mix between a museum dedicated to the life of a lonely person and the living quarters of a child with access to a parents’ credit card: there are high quality statues and figures throughout the room, and three bookshelves of varying sizes. The largest holds my favorite literary novels, as well as RPG textbooks and vinyl records. The second largest holds art books/coffee table books from my favorite film and television productions, and numerous statues. The smallest is dedicated to graphic novels and comic book related things (that aren’t a part of my seven long boxes in the closet). Statues in my room range from 12″ tall to 27″ tall, and are all my favorite superheroes: thor, she-hulk, captain marvel, daredevil, among others. I also have Terminator and Star Wars on display. There’s also several framed art prints and my college degree on the wall to remind people I am a semi-competent adult. it’s a lovely room, all things considered.
favorite word (in any language): vainglory- the quality of excessive vanity or inordinate pride in one’s achievements. (bonus round: it’s not ‘one’ word but I love the Japanese mono no aware, the recognition of the impermanence and ephemera of life, wistful and possessing empathy)

Taylor Swift reveals how Game of Thrones inspired reputation
Entertainment Weekly // by Alex Suskind // May 9th 2019
Tumblr media
Taylor Swift began binge-watching Game of Thrones in 2016. Though she’d heard rumblings about a Red Wedding, the pop star managed to stay away from most major spoilers. “I can avoid pretty much any information,” she tells EW. “For a couple years, every time I’d see my name in print, I’d throw the phone. If you can avoid your own presence, spoilers [are] easy.”
Though she began watching the show for pleasure, her interest soon made its way into her life in different ways. As she reveals here for the first time, the dark and twisted world of George R.R. Martin began to infiltrate her music. “So much of my imagination was spent on Game of Thrones,” she says. “At the time, I was making reputation and I didn’t talk about it in interviews, so I didn’t reveal that a lot of the songs were influenced by the show.” (Shout out to EW’s James Hibberd, who called that one.)
Swift adds that reputation ended up turning into a split album, with one side featuring weaponized songs about vengeance, and the other exploring love and looking to find “something sacred throughout all the battle cries.” Sounds like the recipe for an epic, Westerosi-style plot.
“These songs were half based on what I was going through, but seeing them through a Game of Thrones filter,” Swift says. “‘Look What You Made Me Do’ is literally Arya Stark’s kill list. ‘King of My Heart’ was influenced by Khal Drogo and Daenerys. It’s even got this post-hook of drums — I wanted them to sound like Dothraki drums.” She also wrote lines based on plots from season 7 right before the record dropped. “‘I Did Something Bad’ I wrote after Arya and Sansa conspire to kill Littlefinger,” she says. That and “Look What You Made Me Do,” she adds, “are very Cersei vibes, too. Daenerys as well.”
Though she hasn’t confessed the Thrones connection to any cast members (she’s met both Sophie Turner and Emilia Clarke), Swift did tell series creators D.B. Weiss and David Benioff once at a party. “I was sitting there going, ‘Do I tell them? Is that weird? No one asked for this information.’ [But] one of the first things they said was ‘Our daughters love your music.’ I’m like, ‘This is my in.’” (The showrunners were flattered by Swift’s fandom.)
While Swift loves adding little clues in her songs for fans to find, GoT influenced her to up her game. “My entire outlook on storytelling has been shaped by [Thrones] — the ability to foreshadow stories, to meticulously craft cryptic story lines,” she says. “So, I found ways to get more cryptic with information and still be able to share messages with the fans. I aspire to be one one-millionth of the kind of hint dropper the makers of Game of Thrones have been.”
Another reason Swift loves the show is the way it builds characters. “You find yourself identifying with different characters several times an episode,” she says. “You go from hating someone to loving someone. You see someone as cold, and then you see the reasons behind why they do what they do. I just feel so lucky to exist when Game of Thrones is coming out.”
So who does she think will end up on the Iron Throne? “Daenerys, Arya, or Sansa,” she says. “But if I’m being realistic, I think Sansa has the skill set and the ability to delegate and put on a brave face but a stoic demeanor.” Then what happens to Arya? “Arya [would] be Hand of the King.” And then, hopefully, Swift will write an anthem called “Not Today.”

I Need Fire (Part 2)

Previous chapters: Chapter 1
Next Chapter: Chapter 3
Summary:  Rayne moved to LA a few years ago and has never really fit in.  While most of the Sunset Strip girls were movie star beautiful, with thin builds and blonde, Rayne stood at 5′10 in flats, had curves that no diet would make disappear and had big red curly hair.  The only person that ever made her feel normal was her best friend and room mate Jo.  In this chapter Jo tries to play matchmaker…

Chapter 2
It was a hot weekend in Los Angeles, today alone was going to hit 88° according to the local news.  So what were two girls to do?  Of course, lounge by the pool and catch some sun!  The apartment complex that Rayne and Jo lived in had a giant pool that no one ever seemed to take advantage of, it was always a ghost town.
Rayne brought her boom box to the pool with a stack of cassettes.  First she put in On Through The Night by Def Leppard and pressed play.  “I know you’re gonna say I listen to this too much but the guy at the record store knocked it out of the park with this suggestion!  This band is gonna be big.”
“I mean you certainly have had much worse phases.”  Jo giggled from her lounge chair as Rayne took off her baggy t-shirt.  “Oh Rayne if I looked like you I would wear a bikini!”  Jo complained upon seeing Rayne in an emerald green one piece.
“You’re crazy!  I love my curves but no one wants to see me in a bikini.”  Rayne scoffed while laying back in the reclining chair sliding sunglasses over her eyes.
“Oh I can think of one person who wouldn’t mind seeing you in less than that.” Jo teased taking a drink of her iced tea.
“Huh?” Rayne asked propping herself up on her elbow.  "Who?“
“Well I saw Vince the other night and he told me that his drummer has been talking non stop about some bombshell red head he met the other night at the apartment.  He described you to Vince and then said you left with some blonde who was there for Vince.  Vinny later put two and two together that you must be my friend.
"Oh God!” Rayne put a hand on her forehead in exasperation.  “Of course he’s your fuck buddies friend.”
“You know Tommy is pretty sexy.”  Jo pushed the issue.
“Jo he ate a girl out in the middle of a room full of people.  I’m pretty sure her cum is on the walls.” Rayne slid her sunglasses down the bridge of her nose.
“Well at least you know he’s good at it!” Jo laughed before shoving Rayne’s shoulder.  "Oh come on, you deserve to have a little bit of fun!“
Rayne thought about it, maybe she did deserve to have some fun.  But was someone like Tommy worth the trouble he would undoubtedly bring with him?  "I don’t know Jo, I don’t think dating a musician is worth it. They tend to be like leeches.  Remember when Danielle dated that dude from Ratt and found out he was just using her for groceries?”
“I think this band is a little bit different Ray, they sell out every show they play on the Strip.  They’re making money. Vince says he thinks they’ll get signed soon, they have a label executive trying to convince the label to sign them.  And besides, who says you have to date, just fuck him and leave him.”
“If they’re making money why does their apartment look like a bomb went off in it?  God I can’t believe you fucked Vince in there!” Rayne laughed, not even wanting to justify the second part of her friends statement.
“Oh my god it’s awful in there isn’t it?” Jo agreed clenching her hands into fists in front of her.  "I think I saw a cockroach crawling on the floor when Vince had me bent over the bed.  But at that point I didn’t care.“
Rayne gave a loud sound of disgust and threw the sunscreen at her friend.  “Ew!  That’s so fucked.”
Rayne adored moments like this with Jo, where they could just get down to straight up girl talk.  Back home she never had friends that she could talk honestly with, most of her girl friends said that she had no tact and was more like a guy in that way.  Rayne would never forget the first time she ever met Jo after answering a want ad in Recycler magazine for a room mate.  When Rayne entered her hopeful future apartment she was greeted by a disheveled looking Jo, her blonde hair a mess, partially up in a pony tail and an off the shoulder loose fitting top.  Within two minutes of them talking Rayne watched as a guy walked out stark naked, her jaw dropped when he asked if Jo had a pair of pants he could borrow.  The blond smiled at Rayne with a megawatt smile, “I thought he was going to be gone by the time you got here, but I think I wore him out.”  As strange as it sounds Rayne knew in that moment she had met a kindred spirit, even if Jo made Rayne look like a prude most of the time.
The two girls sat by the pool for a few hours gossiping about new bands on the strip, new girls on the strip and every now and then going into the water to cool off.  That night they were going to the Roxy. No bands were playing that they were particularly interested in but the Roxy played the best music when no bands were on and the girls were friends with the DJ who would be spinning there.  Little did Rayne know that Jo had told Vince they were planning on going. If Vince was going that undoubtedly meant that the rest of the band would be there. Jo joked with Rayne that she needed to get laid, and it was all in good fun, but she truly didn’t want the white collar world to suck the fun out of her best friend.  Maybe a bad boy would be just what the doctor ordered.
Later that night the girls entered the Roxy and music already blasted out of the speakers, specifically "Fashion” by David Bowie.  Jo shouted in Rayne’s ear, “I’m gonna go find Robbie.”
Rayne nodded her head making her way over to the bar to grab drinks.  She smiled when she saw that her favorite bartender David was behind the bar. “My love!”
“Hi David.” Rayne smiled hopping onto the bar giving her friend a big hug.  "I keep missing you! We don’t come to the Roxy as much because you guys haven’t been doing live music as much.“
"That’s all going to change soon babe.” David said happily.  David had been working at the Roxy since Rayne moved to LA he was a typical bartender in that he was charming and worked for his tips, he also made a damn good drink.  "What can I get you?“
"I’ll just have a Cardu neat.  Jo is saying hi to Robbie, but let’s get her a vodka cranberry.”
“You got it sweets.” David winked.  After a few short moments he pushed two glasses across the bar.
Rayne slid a twenty dollar bill back at him telling him to keep it.  "David, would you mind keeping an eye on our bags behind the bar tonight?“
"Always.” David reached his hand out to grab onto Rayne’s leather purse.  "Save me a dance tonight.“
"Oh I don’t know about that.” Rayne smiled and winked.  Rayne crossed the club floor weaving in and out of people to find a decent spot.  She and Jo had become strip rats so to speak, they went out basically every single night, mostly for live music but in that time they had made a little family of friends.  You go out to the same places enough you start to see familiar faces, and you either get along or start to mark your territory against those you didn’t like.  Working her way through the mass of people she spotted Jo coming down from the DJ booth through the crowd of people towards her as Metal Guru by T. Rex started to play.  "David will take your bag for the night, and here’s your drink. Drop your purse and come out and dance with me!“
Metal Guru could it be you’re gonna bring my baby to me She’ll be wild you know a rock and roll child, oh yeah Metal Guru has it been, just like a silver-studded sabre-tooth dream I'II be clean you know pollution machine, oh yeah
The two friends danced to the music singing with each other as they danced.  Swaying her hips to the music, Rayne lost herself in the music she absolutely loved.  T. Rex and Marc Bolan, even if in real life she would have towered over him, were huge influences on her music taste.  T. Rex wasn’t changing the word but they did change hers.  When Marc Bolan died Rayne vowed she would get to the UK one day and pay her respects in some way.
Metal Guru is it you, yeah, yeah, yeah!
The girls sang the lyrics to each other as the song faded into All The World Is A Stage by Slade.
"I thought that was you.” Rayne heard a male voice from behind them.  Spinning on her tiger print heel her stomach flipped when she saw Vince, Tommy and two others with them.  One being the guy who lit himself on fire the other night and the other Rayne hadn’t seen before, he was slightly shorter had long black hair and was wearing aviators, even though we were already in a dark club.  Tommy’s eyes were locked on Rayne causing her stomach to do flips.
“Babe!” Jo shouted jumping onto Vince wrapping her legs around his waist.  The two kissed and Jo mouthed I’ll be right back to Rayne, leaving her alone with the other members of Vince’s band.  Thanks for being my wingman Jo, Rayne thought to herself.
“You like T Rex?” The fire guy asked.
“I love them, they’re one of the greats.  Too bad I never got to see them live.” Rayne smiled genuinely at him.  "What’s your name?“
"I’m Nikki.” He tilted his head upwards in greeting.  Rayne looked down at the shorter man with longer hair.
“And who’s Mr. Way Cool?” Rayne said jokingly to the man wearing aviators.
“Mick.” He said, short and to the point.  "The sunglasses usually make people fuck off.“
"Have you found that works?” He simply nodded, Rayne smiled approvingly.  "Well if that’s the case I might have to start wearing sunglasses when I go out. Not that many people take notice when I’m out with Jo.“
"They should take notice.” Tommy quickly interjected over the music, his dark eyes hadn’t left Rayne since she had turned around upon hearing Vince’s voice.  She saw Nikki roll his eyes and she was sure Mick did behind his sunglasses.
“I need vodka.” Mick said.
“I need a bump.” Nikki quickly said after.  Both of them heading in opposite directions leaving her alone with Tommy.  Fuck, everyone’s leaving me!
“You have to tell me your name.  It’s driving me crazy.” Tommy spoke his eyes begging like a puppy dog.
“Why should I tell you?”  If she was being honest with herself, Rayne kind of enjoyed this game of cat and mouse the two were playing.  Rayne wasn’t used to being chased, in fact since moving to LA she had gone on three dates, just three!  None of those resulted in anything longer than a few weeks and a few free meals.  For the life of her though she really couldn’t figure out why this good looking drummer was showing any interest in her.
“Because you’re fucking beautiful.  You’re a knockout. A ten!” Tommy said enthusiastically.  He certainly had a magnetic energy about him.  His dark hair was fluffed and teased but still maintained its shine.  He was in his leather pants again but this time wore a top with holes cut all through it.  He looked like he was ready to go on stage in this outfit, the other night he seemed more casual, even with the leather pants.
“Look, I appreciate that I really do.  But I am not the kind of girl you want.” Rayne said politely, pulling out a cigarette, offering one to Tommy which he happily took.
“Why not?” Tommy questioned pulling a lighter out igniting a flame for Rayne to use.  Rayne put the cigarette between her lips and leaned into the flame the end lighting up like a cherry.
“I’m not my best friend Jo.” She exhaled gesturing to the ladies room where her friend had gone off with Vince.  "I’m not going to fuck you in the bathroom of a club.“
Tommy flashed a smile before exhaling a stream of smoke, "Oh just give me some time.” As soon as the words left his mouth he closed his eyes and made a face.  "I can’t fucking believe I just said that.“
Rayne chuckled while reaching up and wrapping both her hands around Tommy’s neck, her fingers lazily playing with his hair.  "Don’t worry about it Tommy boy. I’m sure you and the fire hydrant will be happy.”
Tommy had a confused look on his face before it clicked, she was talking about Bullwinkle.  "No she’s not my…”
Rayne pulled one hand away from his neck taking a deep inhale of nicotine, “Yeah, yeah I know.  She’s not your girlfriend. That’s just the point I’m not that girl.  And you guys in bands enjoy being with those girls.”
“Oh so you think you know what we all want?”  Tommy narrowed his eyes.
“I’ve been around enough of you to know it is what you want.  That or I’m a bet between you and your buddies, which has also happened to me before. Good looking guys don’t go after the big girl.  They go after girls like Jo.” Tommy’s eyebrows shot up.
“So you think I’m good looking then?” He smiled wide resulting in Rayne playfully shoving his shoulder.  He’s a beautiful idiot, Rayne thought to herself.
“Oh fuck you.” She laughed, pushing his shoulder slightly.  Rayne had to give it to him he was charming.  His eyes were chocolate brown and strangely kind, if she didn’t know better Rayne would have thought he was being genuine with her.
“Come on!  Have a drink with me?” Tommy motioned over to the bar.  Her heart wanted to, badly. Her mind on the other hand…
“You never give up do you?”
Tommy leaned in close, so close that Rayne could feel his hot breath against her ear.  "Not when I see something I want.“ His response was simple and resulted in an electric shiver to coarse down Rayne’s spine.  Tommy reached down to take her hand in his and Rayne thought the two would catch on fire from the sparks she could feel between them.  She’d never experienced anything like this before.
Just when Rayne was about to open her mouth and say something, she was almost tackled to the ground by an excited Jo.  "It’s our song!!!”
Jo’s approach had snapped Rayne out of her Tommy fog and she realized Stay With Me by The Faces was blasting through the speakers of the club.  "Let’s dance!“ Jo led Rayne away from Tommy to a clear spot on the floor.
Red lips hair and fingernails I hear your a mean old Jezebel Let’s go up stairs and read my tarot cards, c'mon
“That’s you girl!” Jo smiled at her best friend pointing to her hair.  "I bet Tommy wouldn’t mind going upstairs and pulling on that hair.“
"Shut it you perv.”  Rayne laughed while continuing to dance.  She occasionally stole a glance over to Tommy and Vince who were watching the two girls intently.  She knew she’d regret it later but she definitely danced a little more seductively knowing Tommy was watching her.
Hours flew by music, smoke, drinks and swirling lights surrounded everyone in the club.  It was so easy to lose yourself along to the music, it was intoxicating.  Surprisingly Tommy left Rayne alone for the rest of the night, in every way at least except his eyes.  He couldn’t take them off of her. The way she moved, her smile, the way she’d get excited when a song she liked came on, and that mass of curly hair swaying back and forth.  Her hair was a shade of red that resembled fire, a mix of copper and wine that Tommy just wanted to run his fingers though and pull on.
“Tommy if you keep staring at her you’re gonna burn a hole in her ass.”  Nikki said sitting down next to Tommy at the bar pouring out a line of coke.
“It’s great to look at though dude.  I’d like to do more than look at it though.” Tommy smiled at his best friend as Nikki dipped his head down snorting up the dust.  "I’m just drawn to her. I don’t know why, I’ve never felt this way before.“
Nikki sat up and rolled his eyes at the statement, "Really Tommy?”
“Dude!  I’m fuckin serious!  I’m getting a fuckin boner just from watching her dance, that hasn’t happened to me since I first started getting boners.”
“She hasn’t given you the time of day, forget about her and take a look at the sweet thing over there who’s practically drooling at the sight of you.  She’ll definitely relieve the blue balls induced by red over there.”  Nikki spoke gesturing toward a blonde girl at the end of the bar. She wore a hot pink string bikini top and pursed her lips when she saw Tommy look at her.  "I think we could have a threesome on our hands man.“
"Or a two-some, just you and her.”  Tommy laughed clapping his hand on Nikki’s shoulder before his eyes went to his beautiful red head on the dance floor.  He turned back to Nikki and simply said,  "She doesn’t even compare.“
"Well, T-Bone turning down pussy.  I think you should see a doctor man.” Nikki smiled before getting up and approaching the blonde.  Tommy stared down at his drink until he heard a voice from heaven next to him.
“Hey David, we’re heading out for the night can you grab our bags?”  Rayne spoke from beside him. The bar was packed so he could feel her pressed against him as she leaned over the bar.
“You’re just cruel you know that?” Tommy said shaking his head in disapproval looking up at her from his seated position.
“Am I?”  Rayne asked flirtatiously leaning into him, he could tell she’d had a few drinks.
Tommy spun on the stool fully facing her, taking a risk and resting his hands on her hips.  "Let me take you on a date. Come on.“
Rayne’s green eyes drifted to the ceiling in thought.  "Tell you what rockstar, if you can find me this week before your next show that I’m sure I’ll be dragged to by my best friend.  I’ll go on a date with you.”
“You promise?” Tommy smiled up at her leaning in to try for a kiss, his hands sliding down to her ass.
“Oh no you don’t.  I’m drunk but I’m not that drunk.” Rayne grinned grabbing Tommy’s hands and putting them in his lap.  He looked like a kid that was just told he couldn’t have cookies before dinner.
“Come and find me.” Rayne huskily said leaning in and kissing Tommy on the cheek, leaving a stain of red lipstick behind.  When she pulled back she broke eye contact. “Thanks David, see you later.”
And with that she was gone in a sea of people.  Tommy turned to the bartender that had handed her bag to his red haired beauty, gesturing for him to come over.  "David,“ he called him by the name she had used, "let’s talk you and I.”
Tommy punctuated his statement by pulling out a $50 slamming it on the bar.
