[Optimus Prime x Reader] Love you to the Cybertron and back

Hi, this is my second time writing fanfic about Optimus. Big daddy makes me feel like there are never enough stories about him. Hope you enjoy this story

What is defiance?

In my opinion, that's when you know both of you can't be together but still want to try to get to the other person. Whether it's a 0.000001% chance, or when you know for sure that your future will be nothing but pain and separation, but you still run towards that person like a cow, just to have can see their smiles.

It is often said that one-sided love is the feeling of pissing yourself in the foot. Outsiders see you as stupid, but you feel so warm. And I must have been a real idiot when I fell into an unrequited love affair with a giant alien robot.

But I mean who can NOT love that perfect bot ? Look into those blue eyes that sparkle more than any gem in the world, as deep as the ocean and brighter than the sky on a sunny day; listen to the quiet but serious sound, sometimes too gentle when interested in you; and his thoughtful look when thinking and worrying about everyone. God, it's HARD not to fall in love with such a perfect Optimus Prime !

I secretly thought so while doing my homework on my laptop. The words in the content of the exercise gradually deviate to "I love Optimus so much, why are you so handsome when you walk or sleep or sit, oh my lord, a gift from the Creator, perfect gentleman, destroyer of women hearts...". Suddenly Miko appeared behind me, the mischievous little girl curiously looked at her laptop and asked:

- Hey, what are you doing ?

Startled, I quickly folded the machine in but it was too late. Miko gave me a sly smile that made my face heat up, it felt like I was just caught watching gay porn tagged a man with a pink nipple in a public place, no more human rights. She nudged me on the shoulder with a know-it-all smile and then ran off to tell Bulkhead and Wheeljack..

Now the whole base, even Agent Fowler, knows I have a crush on Optimus. Fowler's eyes were looking at me like he saw me dressed up as a bush, holding an AK and saying "I'm going to fuck your mother"...

But the gods had mercy on me, so the only person who didn't know I had a crush on Optimus was that lovely Prime.

My guardian is Optimus.

The reason? Ratchet is too busy with data, supercomputers or whatever and always says "I needed that!", Bumblebee, Arcee and Bulkhead all already have someone else. I'm twenty years old, older than all of them, and don't go to the same school as the kids. Although Optimus is too busy to be a nanny, he still tries to make time to pick me up every day. He even thoughtfully cares for me when I'm in a bad mood by rubbing my head with his giant fingers - something no one has ever done to me. Normally, people around me tend to ignore my negative emotions but He is different, He is willing to listen to me when I am sad, praise me when I achieve something and obviously I it was not wrong to fall in love with him at first sight.

I won't confess that I struggled by rolling around on the ground just to have Optimus as my personal guardian instead of any other bot. Surprisingly, instead of trampling me, he actually agreed.

Excellent !!

Gradually, we shared a lot of things with each other. I am an extrovert, active and creative, and always have no shortage of stories to share. Optimus Prime, Autobot leader, part time introvert, loves to listen to my story and then, can talk to me about Cybertron's history, its golden age and I'll share it with him about my home country, which suffered from invasion and division by hostile forces but united to fight for independence, freedom and happiness for our people despite suffering many losses and pain. At those times, Optimus often listens with a contemplative face, and he praises people of my country, at that time I saw a little sadness in his eyes, mixed with longing. Perhaps, He also longs for peace will return to the land of Cybertron.

I know that Optimus is responsible for the fate of his entire planet, so I don't want him to be bothered by my little love. Just being with him, I'm satisfied, I don't want to ask for anything more and always tell my heart to remember that. I just need to see Optimus every day, hear him speak, touch him, be cared for by him and I will be happy and happy. But sometimes, I will also be selfish and greedy. I could pretend to be weak and stupid just to be with him a little longer, to feel the soft, cold touches of metal as he pats my head, inhaling his scent. If the sun, the sky and the stars smelled, it would be Optimus

Our lives are not always peaceful. Decepticons, MECH, battles that almost took my love away from myself so many times. Remembering that time when I saw the blue color in His eyes gradually fade away, I felt like I had died according to that light.

My heart constricted violently, I felt suffocated, my eyes blurred, engulfed in an endless despair. If my human heart could be used to save Him, I would pull it out myself just to see that clear blue light one more time. I realized that I loved Optimus so much that I didn't even know it, and I prayed to the gods to take me away in His stead, if He could rise again, I wouldn't hesitate to show my love off. Show my love to Him regardless of the outcome.

Maybe it was luck, maybe it was because the gods heard my prayer, the team found a way to revive Optimus. The moment I saw His Spark light up, I burst with happiness. It was only when Optimus raised his giant arm to lightly touch my face that I realized it was already wet with tears. Tears of uncontrollable happiness rolled down her cheeks, falling one after another. I hugged those giant fingers tightly, laughing in a choked sob :

- Welcome back, Optimus.

He replied to me with a warm smile:

- I'm back.

No need for fancy or fancy words. I love Him through such simple words.

After Optimus returned from the dead, he seemed… more strange? I'm not sure if my hunch is correct as he and I have been glaring at each other for more than thirty minutes. Strangely speaking, because normally only I look at Optimus, slim waist, long legs, big butt, handsome, who doesn't like it? But it's very strange for Optimus to look back at me, it's like being reciprocated by a crush, most of which is due to high drugs that give rise to hallucinations.

While I was wondering if the 8 funky balls that I had hidden from Optimus to use on New Year's Eve had any effect on my nerves, he approached me. The speaker, while I pricked my ears to hear what else these 8 funkey balls could make me hallucinate.

- The moon is beautiful today, isn't it?

If it's so illusory, it's definitely a drug...

As a natural reaction, everyone raised their heads to look. Oh, it's the base roof of metal bars and rocks. Then everyone turned their gazes to me. I gulped, chuckling.

- Yes, it's beautiful.

Ratchet looks at me like crazy while Jack and Miko come over and touch my forehead. Jack frowned :

- Strange, no fever at all.

Miko continued:

- Tell me the truth, who sold you drugs?

My forehead had blue veins, picked up these two demons' ears, and whispered in a loud enough volume for them to hear:

-If you two are still babbling, I'll tell Arcee and Bulkhead about how you two tried to buy marijuana and use it. And believe me, Ratchet will let you both listen to lectures 24/7.

Miko pursed her lips, while Jack nodded vigorously. The secret we secretly played with banned substances was something that we swore to live with, carry with us when we died, even if Megatron put a gun to the head, we couldn't tell it out. Suddenly, Miko seemed to think of something, she leaned into my ear and said :

- What Optimus said seems to be quite common in my country. It is a kind of confession where one person says "The moon is beautiful tonight", then if the other responds "The wind is also very gentle", it means yes.

-So Optimus is secretly confessing to her?

- Exactly, Jackie!

The two of them didn't make an appointment, but they both smiled at me. I blushed, my mind still echoing Miko's words. But what if this is just a coincidence? Or just a fleeting illusion of a hopeless unrequited love?

A voice in my head : What if it is true ? What if Optimus loves you the same way you love Him? You deserve this hope of love. Go ahead girl, conquer that perfect bot !

Sink Or Swim . It's not the first time I've been rejected anyway...

- Optimus !! - I shouted - The wind is very gentle today too!!

Fuckfuckfuck I'm going to die !!!!!

Now it's not just Ratchet, but Arcee, Bumblebee, Raf and Bulkhead all looking at me like I'm crazy. Miko and Jack covered their mouths with laughter. I was like a balloon that had been deflated, and my whole body was limp. Embarrassment, shyness, ... mixed emotions in me, but my eyes were still fixed on that red and blue bot.

And He smiled

Striking giant strides toward me, Optimus knelt down, holding out his hand. I jumped up, clinging to His big fingers while Optimus led us both out of the center of the base, to a deserted place just the two of us. Whisperer:

- Can you say it again?

- Say what again? - I laughed and asked in return - Saying the wind is also very gentle, or do I also love you very much?

For a moment, I heard the rumble of an engine. Optimus's metallic skin, which was once cold, was now unusually hot. I looked him straight in the eye, and my heart fluttered with strange joys  :

- I've loved you since we first met and always will. So, venerable Optimus, can you assume that you feel the same way about me ? Do you feel like me?

- I have always loved you, but I am afraid, afraid that my enemies will try to harm you when they know this. But after coming back from the dead, seeing you cry, I understand that I can't lie to myself anymore. I swear on the honor of Primus and my Spark, I love you.

I tiptoed slightly, placing a kiss on Optimus' lips. Needless to say, I'm already satisfied. I know that our love will have to go through many obstacles, but what do we do when we have already fallen in love with each other...

Let's put the worries away for now, and enjoy this sweet moment a little more...

THEME: MECHS Part 2

There are a lot of great Mech games, so this is a continuation of this week's theme!

Breakup on Re-Entry by Riverhouse Games

Earth is at war w/ The Colonies. Mech pilots must keep their identities secret or risk assassination. You just realized your lover has been secretly piloting your rival mech. It all comes down to this battle. Do you want to keep fighting?

This is a roleplaying game for two Mecha pilots who do not know yet that their mortal enemy sleeps by their side every night. You will need a deck of Poker cards and two index cards to play this game.

Players will draw from the deck of cards and answer questions about Civilian Life, the War, the Fight at Hand and your Lover. Your character won't realize who exactly it is they are fighting until they draw the King of Hearts - and then you will get to roleplay all of the heartbreak and betrayal: if you stop fighting, you will get do decide what happens after. This is a simple, short game, great for two people who want to roleplay out something dramatic without requiring a time commitment longer than a few hours.

Apocalypse Frame by Binary Star Games.

In a ruined and terraformed world where most of humanity is under the yoke of a brutal regime, the former workers of a once-remote factory - now known as The Collective - have risen up to create a future of freedom from oppression. You are an Ace - a highly skilled pilot referred from a Division in The Collective and assigned a humanoid combat vehicle known as a Frame. You and your Strike Team of fellow Aces must take on The Collective’s greatest threats, ensure its survival, and carve a path for its continued success.

APOCALYPSE FRAME is designed to be very fast to pick up and play, and it's suitable for both one-shots and extended campaigns. Combat is quick, punchy, and deadly for Aces' enemies. 

Player characters have three attributes: Drive, Speed and Control. You will choose one of your three attributes for every attack roll you make, and roll a number of d6's equal to your Attribute number. Mobile Frame Zero: Firebrands by Lumpley Games (Meguey & Vincent Baker.)

Humanity has spread through the Milky way, using interstellar transit gate technology to colonize the galaxy. Mobile frames are the hard-working, hard-fighting combat- and labor mecha they’ve brought with them.

You are romantic ace mobile frame pilots, caught up in an undeclared war for the future of the Bantral system.

MOBILE FRAME ZERO: FIREBRANDS is a roleplaying party game by Meguey Baker & D. Vincent Baker, set in Joshua A.C. Newman’s MOBILE FRAME ZERO universe. You don’t need to be familiar with MF0: RAPID ATTACK or MF0: INTERCEPT ORBIT to play. To play, you’ll need 3–5 players, a copy of the playbook for each, and a handful of coins.

This is the precursor to the Firebrands series, a game in which players engage in a series of mini games in order to play out a series of scenes between their characters. Nova by GilaRpgs

NOVA is a rules-lite tabletop RPG in a world where the sun exploded, and humanity struggles to hold onto what little light they have left. The players will pilot exosuits, called Sparks, exploring the dark ruins of old earth, searching for the technology and knowledge that may just bring on a new dawn.

NOVA also uses the LUMEN system, which is designed for action-packed combat, equipping the players with a set of powers that bring the power fantasy feelings of looter shooters to the tabletop. Players will each choose a Spark to pilot, specialized exosuits designed to explore the dangers of the Dusk. Each exosuit was designed by humanity to serve a particular function, and the LUMEN system equips the players with a set of powers and abilities that allow them to excel while on their dangerous missions.

This is a game with a slew of third-party content available for you to modify your gam with, including new Sparks, alternate mechanics and additions to the world. You're not going to get gigantic robots in this game, but you'll get the same theme of humans going up against larger-than-life odds, fighting desperately to cling onto hope. This is a twice-Ennie-nominated game, so it's worth checking out!

2021 Favourites

In no particular order. This is content I've read and watched in 2021, not necessarily content released in 2021.

Books

1. The Watchmaker of Filigree Street by Natasha Pulley: m/m 19th-century fantasy. I love the intricate plot of this series. Book 2 takes place in Japan, which makes it even more interesting.

2. The Velocity of Revolution by Marshall Ryan Maresca: queer and poly urban fantasy set in a secondary world. This amazing stand-alone novel has telepathy where the characters can end up in somebody else's body. Think Sense8.

3. [Spanish] Cada Seis Meses by Clara Duarte: f/f magical realism. This is my favourite Spanish novel. The love interest only exists six months a year. The plot plays with the butterfly effect.

4. Cute Mutants by SJ Whitby: sapphic and trans/enby superhero fiction (YA). This is a novel series, despite the comics-sounding titles. I read a lot of original superhero books and this is my fave.

5. Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao: m/m/f science fiction. I also read some original giant robot novels and this is definitely my fave. I love how it's inspired by Chinese culture and mythology.

6. The Unraveling by Benjamin Rosenbaum: science fiction with two invented genders. In this far-future stand-alone novel, people have several bodies with only one mind. Perfect for fans of Ann Leckie.

7. The Darkness Outside Us by Eliot Schrefer: m/m science fiction (YA). Try to go into this book knowing as little as possible. It has horror vibes of the quiet "we're two people alone in the middle of space" variety.

8. The Papercutter by Cindy Rizzo: f/f dystopia (YA). The United States have split into two nations: the United Progressive Regions and the God Fearing States. Jewish pen pals use a secret code via traditional papercuts.

9. Jinx Ballou, Bounty Hunter by Dharma Kelleher: thriller with a trans woman protagonist. This action-packed series deals with serious themes, but also has fun scenes where the protagonist cosplays and goes to conventions.

10. [French] Tant qu'il le faudra by Cordélia: LGBT contemporary fiction. This is my favourite French series. A group of diverse people write an LGBT magazine. It's a brilliant mix of activism and romance.

TV shows

1. Word of Honor: BL wuxia. This c-drama is mind-blowing, nobody knows how it went past censorship. It has an excellent plot and beautiful visuals.

2. Heaven Official's Blessing: BL xianxia. This donghua is full of sweet flirting. I love the plot and the gorgeous art. There's also going to be a c-drama.

3. The Wheel of Time: heroic fantasy with some f/f + polyamory in the background. This is very pleasant to watch thanks to its focus on women and on characters of colour.

4. Legend of Yunqian: GL time travel (part wuxia, part contemporary). This c-drama is a quick watch, with 15 episodes of 4 minutes, but it packs a lot.

5. Motherland: Fort Salem: urban fantasy with some f/f. This is another excellent series with a focus on women and on characters of colour.

6. Color Rush: BL magical realism (YA). This k-drama is based on the concept of Soulmate AUs: you only see colour when you're with your soulmate. It's movie-length, with 8 episodes of 15 minutes.

7. MCU TV shows: Loki is bisexual and genderfluid. I also like the deaf representation in Hawkeye and the Black representation in Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

8. Y: The Last Man: science fiction with a trans man major character. The plot could have been better, but the trans representation is very well done.

9. Light On Me: BL romance (YA). This k-drama's protagonist is on the autism spectrum. It has an all-male love triangle.

10. Young Royals: m/m romance (YA). This amazing Swedish show is about a gay prince finding love at his boarding school.

Movies

1. The Yin-Yang Master: Dream of Eternity: BL wuxia (not to be mixed up with The Yin Yang Master, though it's pretty good too). Both of these movies are Chinese adaptations from the Japanese novel Onmyoji.

2. MCU movies: some m/m in Eternals. I love that we're finally getting more diversity in the MCU, not only with Eternals, but also with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.

3. The Matrix 4: science fiction by a trans woman. Objectively, there isn't much LGBT content, but subjectively, the movie has a lot of queer/trans energy.

4. Snake Eyes: action movie with BL vibes. I know it isn't exactly popular, but I thought it was as good with Japanese culture as Shang-Chi was with Chinese culture.

5. You Make Me Dance: BL romance. This Korean movie is a lovely story about a professional dancer and a debt collector.

Aight, so while you type that up, Imma do the Douglas ask.

When he was younger, his parents always favored Donald. They blatantly preferred him in everything. He always tried to do better and make them proud, but they didn't care, they only really cared about whatever Donald did. Anything that he did was overlooked and anything that the two of them did together they only praised Donald for. (Albeit Donald was held to incredibly high standards to the point where any little thing could get him in trouble, so he didn't have it that good either.) Donald never really stood up for him, though, when he was getting in trouble despite him always doing so for Donald, so while, yes, Donald did definitely care about Douglas immensely, he still left a bad impression on him. (He was really cool in school, though. A troublemaker, yes, but he was freakin' cool. All the kids loved him. Donald wasn't so lucky, sadly.)

His parents were also really traditional and strict about religion, so he was raised with a shit ton of internalized homophobia. He realized he was bisexual after a couple of kids in middle school were making fun of one of the janitors for being gay. Obviously, he had no fucking clue what the meant. So he asked, and after it was explained to him, he really just went Oh. Him and the janitor became good friends after that. He was the only adult he 100% trusted and I'd like to believe Douglas was one of the speakers at his funeral. He has a few relationships with people of both genders, but all of his same-sex relationships usually ended pretty quickly because of his internalized homophobia. He came out to Donald when they were in high school, although that was a complete accident. (He caught him in bed with someone while their parents were away.) It went well, albeit very awkward and embarrassing. Donald is many things but homophobic ain't one of 'em.

After Douglas and Donald kind of separate from their parents a bit, he starts to come into his own person and get over some of his fears. Davenport Industries really takes off, and he actually gets a fair share of spotlight. But the praise kind of gets to him, which sets him on the bad path he went down. After some conversations with Donald, though, he decides that what he was doing was too much, and figures that android would have been a better idea. Donald catches him and doesn't give him a chance to explain anything or defend himself, though, so he's kicked out. He fakes his death thinking that its for the best, but manages to grab Daniel in time and takes him with him. Realizing that he can't exactly provide for Daniel, he puts him up for adoption, and works on his plan for revenge.

He figures that he should follow up on that android idea, hence Marcus' creation a little down the line. Without a lot of funds though, he tries to break into some rich guy's place and rob him. Enter Krane. Unlike Donald, though, he gave him a chance to explain himself before giving up to the authorities. And, Krane, being the fucking crazy person he is, decides that they should work together. Douglas gives him bionics, he gives Douglas funding for his experiments, its a win-win situation! This also leads to a relationship spawning between them, which turns out really well!! Except for the fact that it doesn't. Krane is very obviously not a good person and was really abusive towards Douglas. In all ways. I'd like to think that the dad Marcus was talking about would hurt him for ruining his guitar wasn't Douglas, but Krane, because, let's face it, Marcus would be fucking scared.

Fast forward to the current canon, not much is different in my mind. Douglas and Tasha definitely have wine nights, and his relationships with Donald are slowly but surely mending. He has tons of stuff that he does with Adam, Bree, Chase, Daniel, and now Oliver, Kaz, Skylar, and AJ. Things are going pretty good for him.

Y'know, until he got shot with a death orb and the series got cancelled without telling us what fucking happened. No I am not still salty.

Man totally grew up with so much internalized hemophobia its ridiculous. Also, they definetly gave off the vibe of donald being the favored sibling by their parents, so excellent point there.

Each gift is parcelled in a box of white leather and scarlet ties. In one rectangular box contains a suit, cream with a scarlet tie, to match her family. In another box, a deep velvet green one. Other boxes contain suitable cufflinks; onyx encrusted glittering black ones, and verdalite gemmed gold ones for the other suit. In yet another box, a personal grooming kit for the beard. There is a heavy box, with three books, all heavy, glossy, full-colour tomes. An autobiography on Werner Heisenberg, a book cheerily called: “Gourmet Cooking for One: A Beginners Guide”, and another book titled: “The Enterprising Bachelor’s Dress Code”.  Another box, and it is a furcoat, dark brown in colour.  Another box, dress shoes in patent black. Another box: a bottle of fine, aged whiskey. Another: cigars. A small envelope contains a cheque to an obscene amount for robotic parts and raw materials from an arms dealer.

A larger envelope contains a brochure for an around-the-world gay dating cruise with a special focus on gogo-dancing. If asked later, she will, after a time, reveal that it is a joke, and that she has not, in fact, booked him an energetic sex cruise in the scorching sun. But she will leave it long enough for him to panic.  She includes, in one box among many, a lapel pin, with three black roses. Protector of Daughters. is all the accompanying Dimitrescu crested cream coloured memo card. A note: Karl. These things are very expensive. I expect their true value will be lost on you, but I assure you they are of excellent quality for the next time an occasion arises.  Two more boxes: One containing a deer’s heart, peppered with daisies, and another with Heisenberg crests in silver put onto spiral twist hair clips. A note atop it reads: Uncle Karl. We request to braid your hair.”

As soon as he saw the pile of boxes, he knew who they had to be from-- there was only one person he knew that would go this far over the top when it came to Christmas gifts (not that he hadn't gone a bit overboard himself when he had purchased her gift).

The first boxes he opened were the suits. The cream one wouldn't have been his first choice, but he understood why it was there-- he would match, and that honestly touched him more than it probably should have. The green velvet suit? He actually really, really liked. The cufflinks were next, and he had to admit-- those were very nice. Leave it to Alcina to dress him for Christmas....

Next came the beard grooming kit. Point taken, Alcina... But his beard didn't look that bad, did it?

He's excited to see the books, as he nearly always is, even if he can't help but feel as though 'Gourmet Cooking for One: A Beginner's Guide' might be something of a jab at his diet... The book on fashion isn't something he would typically pick up, but it might be worth looking into. For purely educational purposes of course.

The fur coat is... Lovely, actually. Far warmer than his usual jacket; perfect to wear with his lovely new suit... The shoes as well. Combat boots would only take you so far in life, he supposed. Whiskey and cigars, because of course... Leave it to Alcina to give him all these gifts that were clearly meant to help him improve himself in some way, but still pander to his vices. Smoke and drink were two of the only things most people thought they had in common, after all.

He beams when he sees the contents of the smaller envelope. That should be more than enough to keep him busy for a while... Maybe he'll finally be able to get his hands on the parts he needs to finish a few projects. The larger envelope... Oh no. No. She didn't, did she? He hoped this was some cruel, sick joke, but knowing her.... He would have to find a way to tactfully address this whole cruise thing.

The lapel pin will look nice on his new suits.... As a matter of fact, he moves it from the original box into the one with the white suit, already planning to wear it. He snorts as he reads her note. Typical Alcina... As if he didn't already know she spent entirely too much money on him.

The last two boxes bring a grin to his face. A deer's heart with daisies.... He definitely knew who that had come from.... He thinks for a moment. It just so happens he has some formaldehyde sitting around somewhere, as well as a few specimen jars... Won't she be thrilled to hear that he's kept it?

As for the hair braiding... How could he possibly say no to that? They had even gone out of their way to have custom hair clips made for him. He would make sure it was clean and brushed before he went to the castle for Christmas dinner.

I love series 12 a lot!

I enjoyed series 11 -- and its focus on the Fam. Although, it did lack in Yaz content -- not the police stuff people complained about because I never felt that).

I adored how this season took risks and focused on Thirteen.

I'm here for Thirteen all the way. I love how a lot of the writing in series 12, and Jodie Whittaker's performance validated my read on the Thirteenth Doctor.

Thirteen's hiding a lot, and because she's attempting to be kind, she's hidden a lot of herself because of it. Her idea of a clean slate meant she's not sharing a large part of herself.

I love the moments with Ryan and we saw more of his comedic chops, his nervousness and the way he cares about people. I love that Graham is willing to step back and let people shine and is supportive.

I love the way Yaz steps up and validates the reading, she is a 'look before you leap' kind of person. And she internalized a lot of the Doctor's actions into her own, I like the hint we got from Can You Hear Me? that Yaz takes on characteristics of the person she admires... much to the Doctor's chagrin.

And then there's the Master himself -- Sacha Dhawan is excellent this season especially in his scenes with Jodie. Their chemistry is electric, in every way.

I loved the Spyfall two-parter. It was a fantastic way to start the season -- adventure, espionage, and double-crosses. Classic spy stuff culminating in the events in Spyfall 2. A more intimate one on one between the Doctor and the Master, and all the vicious cruelties they can do to each other.

We see Thirteen without the team and how different she is without them.

Orphan 55 was a mixed bag but at least it was trying to say and do something. And Ryan was adorable here, as well as Yaz teasing Ryan about his crush. I have issues with the episode but this episode also showed Thirteen at her most grumpy with the fam.

Nikola Tesla and the Night of Terrors was enjoyable from start to finish and I adored Thirteen bonding together with Nikola.

(The Historical episodes this season cements something I've been thinking about: I want to see Thirteen with a Historical companion. She's so good with Historical companions, and it's a shame if we never see Thirteen with a historical companion.).

Night of Terrors is also the episode where Thirteen goes genocidal in front of the fam, and I'm just -- shivers.

And then the Grand Dame of series 12 -- Fugitive of the Judoon with Martin!Doctor, the Judoon, and Thirteen. So many things happened here but I loved, loved there was a quiet moment in between this where the Doctor just had a quiet conversation with... well, herself, essentially but also, the introduction of the MARTIN!DOCTOR who is so the Doctor on the word 'go', it's amazing.

Praxeus was a fun romp across the world. I love the interactions between the fam and guest cast. I love Ryan talking to Gabriela; I love Yaz deciding to be more Doctor-y.

I love that the gay couple survived and had a happy ending. (I have a few quibbles, but this isn't the post for that -- and anyway, my series 12 overview is in the works).

Can You Hear Me? was a fun experiment and exploration into the psyche of the Companions. We learned more about Yaz, and her relationship with Sonja; Ryan's fierce loyalties, and Graham's continuing fears.

Also, the fantastic animation in this episode -- I loved it, I hope these pair of villains return because they have so much potential. It's a pity this was only one episode, this could have been a two-parter.

The Haunting of Villa Diodati - This episode battles Fugitive of the Judoon for the top spot in series 12.

The construction and the writing for Haunting is so great and it services all the characters. The team had a lot to do, the Doctor was fantastic without leaving behind the guest characters.

This is also the first time where a Cyberman has truly terrified me and it's amazing.

Ascension of the Cyberman - A good set-up episode. I love how we see the Doctor unravel even more as she locks into a soldier aspect than thinking like the Doctor. Her fear makes her lash out at the Companions and she sends them away from her, thinking it was a safer prospect. If Bill's death taught her anything, the Companions are not safe with her.

Timeless Children - This episode was... not constructed well as I'd like but, man, did I love moments in the finale.

I love, love the visual creation of the Citadel and the music that accompanied the rise of the Time Lords. I love Thirteen's feral moments, I love the bonding between Yaz and Graham. Ryan's ambivalent feelings about guns, after imbibing what the Doctor taught him.

Sacha Dhawan made most of his screen, and he was clearly enjoying it. From the Master's moments with the Doctor, to his disdain with Ashad's ultimate plan -- robots.  

And then there was the Master's death wish and his elaborate murder-suicide plan with the Doctor as the instrument of death.

And then Brave Yaz.  Yaz who was already halfway to the Boundary before Graham has even finished talking. She told the Doctor a long time ago, she will never ever leave the Doctor.

(Much to the Doctor's increasing fear).

Most of all, I love that making the Doctor the Timeless Child brings the Doctor closer to me. I feared they'd turn the Doctor into this untouchable god, god of Time Lords.

Instead, how Chibnall wrote it, the Doctor was the first in the long line of children the Time Lords used.

They experimented on a child and used over and over again to further the agenda of the Time Lords. Then when the Time Lords were established as a power, they discarded the Foundling. Wiped their memories and reverted the Foundling back into a child.

It changes everything for the Doctor, and it doesn't. Because she is still the Doctor. It means there are so many things she can still discover about herself both good and terrible.

I love how turning the foundling back into the child backfired on them. The child will become the Doctor. They became the Doctor and because of this they were able to escape from Gallifrey, to quote @maximumscherzer | @jod13whittaker:

in one episode this series took a character who had always been (to me, anyway) a subtextual immigrant even before the time war, and textually, canonically said, “yes, they are not only an immigrant, they are a refugee who has been massively exploited and abused and gaslit by a more powerful majority that essentially forced them to conform and assimilate”

“and then they escaped.”

And the ending where the Doctor returns to the TARDIS and greets the TARDIS softly: "Hello, mate." And the TARDIS responds to her simply by touch and begins to power-up.

Then the Judoon arrives and imprison the Doctor and I adore this callback to Fugitive of the Judoon. There were consequences to Martin!Doctor's actions and now she's in prison.  

I have so much love for this season. Was the season perfect? No, but I enjoyed the arc construction, I prefer it over using arc words, especially since I got the sense this storyline is far from over.

Series 12 swung for the fences and took risks. I liked series 11 but man, this season had a fire to it and a momentum that left me breathless.

I love that we got more Time Lords in both myth and characters and I love that this season, as @missmarthanightingale wrote, was an exploration of imperialism and of the Time Lords and their imperialism in particular.

There will be fallout from all this, and I'm excited to see where this goes for the Doctor and for the team.
