yeah let’s do it! i lost the original post so i had to dig through my ask game tag, but i found it!! here we go, why not for both? because these 2 are tied for my second favorite hp ship right after tomarry

grindeldore

a) do i ship it: absolutely!!

b) why i do ship it: well first of all, it’s hella angsty, AND my favorite ship dynamic - allies to friends to lovers to enemies to enemies-while-lovers. aka, the whole crazy drama mish-mash. the i truly love the “i-can’t-fight-him” dynamic and eventual breaking point that goes on in the FB series, but my favorite aspect of this has always been the summer of 1899 shit. the buildup. the fallout. the tension of albus not being all in--or in some fics, being all in for their grand plans and then realizing that he’s being a shitty, racist person, and having to come to terms with that. it’s just :chefkiss: so heartbreaking. poor albus. and i love angst.

c) what makes it toxic: i suppose because it’s been endorsed in such an odd and uncomfortable way from [redacted], whose shipping opinions we can’t really trust (or trust in any regard because she’s a terf). also the fact that grindelwald is a muggle hater and a wizard supremacist, so you know. that’s pretty problematic. but it’s never been about saying he’s been a good person, or that their relationship is healthy. it’s so fucked up and i love it.

d) what makes it ship-worthy: all of what i said in part b basically! i know this *could* become canon, also, but i don’t think it will. i don’t consider what [redacted] says as canon, i rely only on source material, so it’s not canon to me as of now, but i guess if you’re someone who ships based on hoping for something to be canon, there’s that. this is never my reason for shipping things, but if you do, come get your queerbaiting juice! okay, that was mean. i was personally offended by that joke. but w h a t e v e r XD

a) do i ship it: yessss.

b) why i do: god. this dynamic. there are SO many directions you can go in. while i’ve written darker, angstier, and smuttier stuff for them before, i actually prefer the complete opposite of what i love about the grindeldore dynamic - aka, i love the fluff and cuteness that is their childhood friendship and then potential romance during the marauder’s era. i just want them to be happy. and yes, it is true that the chapter “the prince’s tale” breaks me every time i read it.

c) what makes it toxic: basically the same thing as grindeldore but on a less grand scale. although with snape, it’s different than grindelwald, because while grindelwald is a pureblood from a privileged background and is basically the wizarding version of hitler, snape is from a poor family, is a half-blood with internalized racism [against himself], and genuinely a caring person. while he can lie and spy, he does so for love, and is never manipulative like grindelwald. so i kinda don’t see this as really toxic. i mean, i guess it is when snape calls lily a mudblood, that’s obviously terrible, but i think that says more about the crowd he’s been forced to fall into as a Slytherin during the rise of Voldemort than his actual beliefs. after all, he’s a half blood.

d) what makes it ship-worthy: aside from the fluffy aspect of their childhood and time at Hogwarts, there’s also post-lily’s death opportunities to explore, as well as the time in-between when there’s a love-hate dynamic potential, as well as AUs. like i said, i’m not really into that sort of stuff, but it’s certainly there and very angsty and dramatic!!

so wow. thanks for the ask! i guess i really love the opposite aspects of these two ships, even though they're my favorites!

1) is there a story you’re holding off on writing for some reason?

Yes, the fitzier soulmates AU and the fitzier bodyswap. Both because I’m sure they’ll end up being very long (the first one in particular) so they scare me a bit :’) and I’m already writing a long story (my Bang!) so this is not the time for another long fic- but soon!

10) write in silence or with background noise? with people or alone?

ALONE. Like Italo Calvino wrote (in “If on a winter’s night a traveler”), “I can’t write if someone else is looking at me: what I write is not mine anymore.”  Doesn’t matter if they’re minding their own business- if there’s someone else in the same space as me, words don’t come. For background music I usually use this or this playlist, because background noise helps with my deaf ear

11) what aspect of your writing do you think has most improved since you started writing?

My English for sure!! My mother tongue is Italian and I only started writing in English a year ago (thank u Terror fandom) and it has definitely improved so much.

21) what do you think when you read over your older work?

EMBARRASSMENT but at the same time m happy and proud of them: what i wrote a long time ago might sound cringy now but it has made me the writer i am today!

7. Does magic run in their family? Alternatively, if they are an Apprentice, how does their magic compare to that of their aunt?

Magic does run in his family, on his father’s side, but skips every few generations. The last person to be born this way in his family was his Great Grandfather through his paternal line.

9. Where does your character’s magical potential come from? Is it inherent? Is it because of some sort of bargain that they struck with an entity/Major or Minor Arcana? Is it a skill that was taught and honed? Is it a combination of things?

Heron’s magical potential comes from the Primordial Force of Order. 

Due to the volatility of being linked so closely with one of the forces that make up the universe. Heron has had a few different teachers there to help him get a grasp on his abilities. His father was a magician who learned magic through study of rituals, Master Efisio Borgia was an accomplished magician who worked as one of Count Spada’s court magicians, and he also had the guidance of his patron Arcana The Emperor.

10. If you had to assign an elemental denotation to their magic, what would it be and why? Fire, earth, air, or water?

I wouldn’t say that Heron’s magic is elemental aligned, but the closest to the feel of his magic would probably be Earth. The stability and resilience over a long period of time has the same feeling.

❤ In Amparo’s heaven, the fields are never-ending, when she enters her greenhouses where she keeps her dead no longer have walls. The dead come and go as they please, and they are whole and happy, and no longer keep her. These dead have no need of her. There is a stage, and there’s lovers, and her loved ones! Of course, her loved ones! And they are happy — not without hardship, but they are happy. She understands, she is alive, and she is perfect, no off keys and no second guessing performances. ⟡ In Artemisia’s heaven there is no injustice, there is no displacement, there is no child in the street at night and there is no resentment. There is no disconnection: there is redistribution and there is harmony. There is food in every table and when she sees her family, she no longer sees strangers. ❤ Amparo would choose the power to control time. The only power she wishes to have on others is when she is on the stage, and she wants to earn their respect because of the power of her performance by her own merits.

⟡ Artemisia wants none. She asks that whatever power which is wielded, is done so with balance.

Neptune: Your muse is given a chance to change one single thing of their past, what would it be?

❤ Amparo would forgive more, dare more and change more. She would’ve given more chances, and be less quick to judge.

Camia wasn’t surprised to find Alec at the graveyard, far outside the city. She was just surprised that the younger woman had woken up before her, and made her way out without her realizing.

As she approached the grave they were both there for, Alec turned to face her, eyes already red-rimmed, cheeks wet.

“You left without me,” Camia said, sitting down in the dead grass next to her.

Alec sniffed, wiping at her eyes. “Sorry. I didn’t want to interrupt your time with her, so I got up early.”

“You don’t have to worry about that, cub.” She thought back to the many nights she had spent in her hut, every dream and nightmare that she had been given, reminding her of what—who she had lost.

Glancing down, she saw Alec’s guitar lying next to her. “Were you playing for her?”

“A little.” Alec picked up the guitar, plucking a few strings absentmindedly. “Is that weird?”

“No.” 

They fell into silence, but Alec kept playing music, and eventually her plucking turned into a recognizable melody. Cami hummed along, leaning back on her hands. A soft breeze stirred the grass around them, and the end of her scarf fluttered behind her.

The song died out, and Camia turned to look at Alec, watching as fresh tears rolling down her cheeks. When she held her arms out, Alec fell into them, crying into her chest. 

Camia had already had her time to grieve. It had been four long years since she came to Vesuvia and found her lover, her Tabitha, had died from the plague. Four years regretting that she ever left in the first place, that she hadn’t stayed a little longer, that she hadn’t done more, said more in the time they had spent together. And then when Alec died, she grieved them both.

Sitting in front of Tabitha’s grave still hurt, of course, but not as much as it used to.

Alec, however—she hadn’t had any time to grieve. After Tabitha died she threw herself into the theater, into helping Dr. Devorak, and then she too had died of the plague not long after. Then she spent three years without any memories. It was as if Tabitha had died just a few months ago for her.

“I miss her,” she said, between sobs. “But, I—I didn’t even remember her earlier this year. I don’t understand how it can hurt so much.”

Camia stroked her hair gently, like she used to do so many years ago. “Even if all of your memories of her aren’t back, your heart still remembers her. You were very close, cub.”

“Not as close as you two were, through.” Alec sat up slowly, shoulders still shaking. “You were going to marry her, right?”

Camia sighed, glancing at the grave. “I was going to ask.”

“She would have said yes.”

“I hoped so.”

Alec shook her head, taking Camia’s hand. “I don’t remember much, but I do remember that she loved you, Cami. She wanted to marry you, and she said—she said if you weren’t planning on doing it when you got back from your trip that she would ask you herself.” She laughed softly, a few more tears falling from her eyes onto their hands. “She rehearsed how she was going to do it. Even up until she got sick.”

Camia felt something in her chest tighten, and she squeezed Alec’s hand.

“I told her that you would say yes, that she didn’t need to go all out, you would say yes if she had just asked you while lying in bed together. But she—” Alec’s voice broke. “She wanted it to be special.”

Alec had never told her all of that, even before she died. It made Camia’s heart swell and break at the same time, and she pulled Alec back to her so she could bury her face into her hair.

They sat, wrapped together, for what felt like forever, and only parted when they felt a drop of rain fall onto them. 

“Let’s go home, cub,” Camia said, her voice barely over a whisper, and Alec nodded, lacing their fingers together as they stood and walked back into the city.

45 Apprentice Q’s!

1. Does your character have siblings or family members in their age group? Which one are they closest with?

Eurydice was an only child with no cousins. She had a close group of friends growing up that she left behind when she ran to Vesuvia, and she had Asra and Muriel after that. As for family, she’s only ever had adults around.

Mila was also an only child. She was the baby of the family up until a few months before she left the selkie colony to stay in Vesuvia with her aunt. Her cousin Cuylar was around 7 when her aunts adopted him, and she didn’t get a lot of time with him before her aunts fled the plague. By the time the game starts I imagine he’d be about 13ish? Smol. And Mila didn’t get to meet her cousin Aithne until after the plague. Aithne’s about five years younger than Cuylar, so she’s still a little kid by the time the game starts.

20. In what ways does your character compare themselves to others? Do they do this for the sake of self-validation, or self-criticism?

When Eurydice compares herself to other people, she’s looking to see how well she’s acting. She doesn’t mind how she looks compared to other people, how well-dressed she is compared to other people, things like that. She does compare herself to rude people, people she’s annoyed with, and wonders if others think that about her and just put up with her. She knows how easy it is to fake a smile when you’re behind the counter, to say “It’s no trouble!” when it is. She definitely gets validation comparing herself to the worst of the worst, but she could always be doing better, couldn’t she? She could always do better to not bother people.

Mila compares herself to other people in forms of self-criticism, definitely. When someone’s rude to her, she gives them the benefit of the doubt. Her judgement is reserved for herself. Like Eurydice, she doesn’t tend to compare physical appearance or dress. She was self-conscious about her particularly sharp teeth for a while, between resurrection and remembering that she was a selkie and that her teeth are badass.

27. How does your character normally deal with confrontation?

Eurydice puts up with no shit. Someone has a disagreement with her, she gets directly to the point. The more heated she gets, the harder it will be to admit she’s in the wrong, but she will. If she’s in the wrong, it’s better to know and grow from it. If she’s sure she’s in the right? Fuck around and find out! She’s prepared to defend herself!

Mila fawns unless someone else is at stake, or unless things get physical. She really doesn’t like confrontation. Even if she knows she’s in the right, it takes a lot to push her to a place where she’ll retaliate. Her first instinct is to look for a peaceful way to resolve things; compromising with a stressful customer, crossing to the opposite side of the street where the snobbish noble is walking so that they can’t complain about getting mud splashed on them.

Hjordis:

Hjordis doesn’t have much of a temper, most things just slide right off her. She is very patient and will just wait for someone to either take a swing at her, or tire themselves out when they’re trying to provoke her. When she finally loses her temper it generally manifests as swift efficient action, then she’s back to normal.

Marcus Aquila:

Marcus Aquila is vastly uncaring of other people’s actions and opinions, unless they’re getting in the way of eir work. Then ey start getting mad real quick. Then the yelling begins and you better buckle up, because it’s a long ride.

22. What are their favorite insults to use? What do they insult people for? Or do they prefer to bitch behind someone’s back?

Hjordis:

Go to insults for Hjordis stem from questioning  someone’s honor, or intelligence, sometimes calling them a coward. She doesn’t usually stick around long enough for talking shit behind someone’s back to even be viable. She prefers to just say what she’s thinking to someone’s face.

Marcus Aquila:

Most of Marcus Aquila’s insults focus on questioning someone’s competence.

Unless someone has triggered eir temper, ey’re more likely to just bitch about someone on their own time. 

35. What’s their guilty pleasure? What is their totally unguilty pleasure?

Hjordis:

Hjordis doesn’t have guilty pleasures. She enjoys what she enjoys openly. From fine blades to small animals to fart jokes. 

Marcus Aquila:

Marcus Aquila’s guilty pleasure is continuing to be a horse kid, ey are very self-conscious about it, since it’s not a hobby they’ve done in a public setting.

Ey however have no guilt over eir love of trashy romance novels. Ey especially loves the ones that dip over into the mystery genre.

Alec — uses the same password, but with slight variations (a capital letter here, exclamation point there) downside is she never remembers which variation

Jamil — had the same password for like a decade, but its something old and embarrassing so he started using a new one for every new thing he signs up for

Camia — different passwords for everything, no one knows how she remembers them all

Leon — the same, always, for everything, they cannot be assed to remember anything else

Left: Jamil, and it’s only because he’s used to walking next to others (like when next to a road he is always closest to it)

No, she wouldn’t. Hande is a demisexual, so she starts to feel sexual atrraction only after she already has an emotional bond with said person. She also proceeds slowly in general, so sex wouldn’t be the first part of her list.

🎆 Is my muse into monogamy?

Yeah, Hande is a monogamous person. She’s too selfish to “share” her partner and doesn’t find it comfortable to think of herself being with several people at once.

🎥 Who is my muse’s celebrity crush?

Probably Alan Rickman and/or Pedro Pascal. I can see her being into older men with charisma, although mostly she appreciates their acting skills. And yeah, death doesn’t stop her gushing over someone, either. xD

Canon:

💘 What are the ways my muse says “I love you” without actually saying it?

Hande would help her loved ones with things, aka acts of service. She would also listen to them even about subjects she has no knowledge of, and otherwise spends time with people she loves. Also gifts and physical touches, like hugs, are her way to tell a person she loves them.

💢 - mannerisms that your muse has when they're angry or sad

Morgan has a tendency to raise her voice a little when she's angry. Her face goes red, and she can't sit still.

When she's sad, her whole body slumps. She gets quiet and self conscious...and kind of needy. Cuddle her, please!

❌ - what would cause your muse to be petty or say something hurtful

Morgan is a protective magician. You insult a loved one and she will tear you to bits. If she's the one who's been insulted, she's more petty than openly hurtful. She spilled wine on Valerius once to get back at him for doing the same.

🎭 - does your muse try really hard to compensate for something

Sort of? It might not seem like it, but she isn't keen on being dependent on people because of rough experiences in her past... including being completely dependent on Asra. So she gets hyper-independent sometimes to make up for it. Usually only while she's tired, sick, or otherwise in need of a caretaker.
