Day 11: Secret Santa Gift!

First of all, I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas 14 days early (that is if I counted correctly). I have dreamed about the turkey you described to me (and I don't like turkey very much so that says a lot). I hope you have a fantastic holiday with your friends and family and that 2023 treats you well. Please stay healthy and safe! Your gift is under the cut, I hope you like it!

You groaned as you heard the crash from the living room.

“Lulu!” you heard Yixing shout followed by a soft meow from the cat in question.

Luobo and Laosan, who were resting a few feet away from where you stood hanging a stocking in the hallway, perked up at the sound of his voice, getting up and going to investigate why the typically quiet and sweet man had yelled. You joined them, deciding that you should check out the damage done to the Christmas tree the two of you had put up a few hours ago.

Laying on the floor was the tree. You thanked the heavens for deciding to get plastic ornaments but cursed yourself for not putting the ornaments higher up on the tree. Yixing was holding the culprit in his hands, face to with the cat who looked as if he could care less and be enjoying being held by his owner - at least the purs coming from him could denote that. Sighing, he turned to look at you after hearing you chuckle at him scolding the cat. The two pranced over two the tree and tapped a few of the ornaments before getting tired of them and going to Yixing’s feet and meowing up at him demanding attention.

“We’re going to need to put the tree away from all tables and furniture aren’t we,” he uttered taking a seat on the floor and allowing the cats to crawl into his lap.

“Unless we want this chaos for the rest of the month,” you huffed out as you lifted the artificial tree and moved it a ways away before sitting on the floor with him. “We could just have you dress up in that Christmas tree sweater you wore a few years back. These three wouldn’t be able to know you over.”

“I have a hat,” he mentioned. “Would that be better?”

The light crunching of snow on the dirt path under your feet. The light snow that was falling dusted the cloak that was resting your shoulders and the few strands of hair that managed to poke out from the hood of the cloak. With the village miles behind you, you were sure that you were all alone in the woods - not a single soul to be seen or heard in the forest, not a human one at least.

A twig snapped behind you, causing you to stop and turn to spot another cloaked figure a few feet away from you. Your heart - which had begun to beat erratically - calmed down as you saw the face of the man as he removed the hood of the cloak off his head.

“Baekhyun,” you sighed. “How long have you been following me?”

The man in question shuffled forward before beginning to walk side-by-side with you, “Since you left the village.”

The chatter stopped as you both walked past a gate and towards a tree that was well hidden and disguised amongst the rest. His hand touched the snowy bark and a door appeared. He pushed it open, stepping to the side and allowing you to enter. You ducked down, not wanting to hit your head on the frame as you entered, removing the cloak and hanging it on a small hooklike twig that stuck out from the wall, Baekhyun followed after you.

Now inside the warm little house, you relaxed a bit. If any of the villagers found out you were in the presence of the dreaded forest witch or sorcerer - whatever they called him this time around - you were sure you would be burned at the stake after being accused of being one of his followers.

“It’s not safe for you to go so close to the village,” you headed, watching him as he walked back from a small stove with a wooden mug, steam rising out of it. You took and smelled the tea - mint. “I told you I would come to see you.”

“I’m impatient.,” he retorted. “Besides, it’s fun seeing you walk in the snow, especially when you trip over a tree root that is very obviously in front of you.”

Your cheeks burned as you took a sip of the earthy tea.

“Just stay here with me,” he pleaded after a moment of silence. “I wouldn’t have a reason to go the village. We could be happy. Spend every winter - every season together. We’d be happy.”

You looked at him with a soft smile. The offer was tempting, but you knew they would come looking for you. The whole village knew you went into the forest frequently and suspicions about you being involved or under the spell of the witch were at an all-time high. You couldn’t risk him getting caught in the crossfire.

“Maybe one day we can do that,” you whispered. “But not now. Merry Christmas Baekhyun.”

His face fell as you rose to your feet, “Merry Christmas (y/n).”

Chanyeol’s stomach growled as he got a whiff of the turkey that was baking in the oven. You heard it from the kitchen island where you working on a pie crust for one of the three pies you’d been tasked with making by your mom as she took over the main course - the turkey that had Chanyeol drooling as he watched her baste it before closing the oven door once again.

“I don’t know if I’m going to be able to make it to dinner,” he commented, looking at you. “Can I have some of the filling?”

His hand reached out from where he sat on the bar stools on one side of the island, ready to swipe a bit of the filling. You were quick to smack his hand away from the pot, your mom hitting you at the same time.

“Let him try it,” she warned before looking at him and handing him a spoon. “Here.”

He thanked her before sending you a smirk as he took a spoonful of the filling and ate it humming delight, “It’s so good!”

You smiled, grabbed the pot and poured the filling into the pie, and began to cover it. Looking at the clock on the wall you finished crimping the edges before setting the pie aside and grabbing the next crust and filling.

“Can you fill this one for me while I go to the bathroom?” you asked Chanyeol.

He nodded and moved to where you stood as you left the kitchen. He carefully poured the filling into the pie crust before setting the pot aside and reaching for the pastry sitting on some parchment paper to cover it. Your mother came over guiding him for the first quarter or so of the pie and then letting him do the rest. He was in the middle of crimping it when you came back, waiting for him to finish.

“Thanks.”

He went to the stool and watched the two of you continue to work before asking if there was anything else he could help with - he had prepped the fruit for the filling. Your mother took a moment to think before snapping her fingers and grabbing a pot with potatoes and a masher.

“You can mash these!”

Maybe he was hoping for a food-tasting position or something, but his face fell a little before he accepted the task and began making use of his arm muscles.

Jongin walked briskly through the snowy street until he spotted the carriage he’d arrived in. With his package in hand, he got in before it began moving, heading back to the estate just outside of the town where he resided. It shouldn’t have been a long trip, but with the snow covering the roads it took a bit longer than he had anticipated, making him late for supper. You were already seated when he arrived, the dim glow from the candles on the Christmas tree you’d set up earlier that week trickling in while the rest of the dining room was lit up by other candles and a few lights.

“I take it the roads were bad?” you brought up as you began eating as soon as he grabbed his utensils and began eating himself.

“Yeah, they weren’t bad when I left.”

The two of you ate the rest of the meal in silence as the serves walked in and out of the room with other dishes before picking up the plates as soon you’d both finished eating and left the room.

“I got you something,” he said entering the family room to rest for a while before retiring to your bedroom. “It’s not much but I saw you eyeing it the other day when we went to town together.”

He gave you the small package he had arrived with watching as you unwrapped it revealing the latest installment to the series you were reading.

“Jongin…”

“I know, I didn’t have to, but they were selling out very quickly and I wasn’t sure if I would be able to hold out until Christmas to give it to you or without you buying it.”

You smiled pressing a kiss to his cheek as you shuffled around the room going to a shelf and grabbing a small package of your own handing it to him.

“I also wanted to give you this before Christmas, Lord knows you need it.”

He opened it revealing a new money clip with his initials on it, “I promise I won’t lose this one.”

“You better not Jongin!”
