EXO Theory Pt. 15 - Hear Me Out

New MV, more lore.

We begin this MV with Kyungsoo waking up and slamming his alarm clock at exactly 10:45 and falling from out of bed.

This probably wouldn’t be significant if we didn’t see the exact same scene with Chanyeol later in the video.

My first thought when I saw this was that I can relate this back to my theory of EXO being tested. Hear me out :P

After Kyungsoo wakes up he walks out of his room into the living area space and we see Kai, Baekhyun, Suho and Xiumin asleep - almost looking passed out.

Back in part 2 of my theory I wrote about how the vast majority of EXO’s MVs seemed to be set in another plane of reality, think Inception, or a parallel universe and this is signified to us often through this imagery of the members sleeping. Again, we get this a few times in this MV. But, more interestingly, the first member in this MV we see awake is Kyungsoo - who I’ve often claimed was the first member to ‘wake’ from the dream the Red Force has put them in and has been aware of the testing they’ve been put through for the longest time.

Anyway, when we see Kyungsoo awaken and fall out of bed and come into the room to find his other members asleep he lights some incense which seems to be the trigger to begin the events of that day, starting with Sehun building with Lego.

It’s quite hard to see in Sehun’s scene but in a later scene with Chen we can see the buildings a little clearer that Sehun is building - I’m definitely seeing a London skyline and the Berlin Radio Tower so I like to think it's somehow connected to the Pathcode teasers,

Day one of the MV (which I’m calling Kyungsoo’s day) continues with the members mostly cleaning and relaxing until there is a time jump to the end of the day when Suho brings doughnuts.

The members then play games together and the day ends when Chen looks at the camera and says ‘You know I don’t play games’ which is funny but may also be a hint to the Red Forces/whomever he is talking to that the day is not right and so then they start again with Chanyeol waking up.

However, this is a lie. In the Parallel Universe teaser we very clearly see Chen playing a game with Kai.

Personally, I think this Hear Me Out universe is the same as the Parallel Universe one - or at least, it’s one of EXO’s parallel universes in a similar vein. Many people have made this connection - much of the styling and look of the two concepts are very similar. But the other reason I think these are connected is because the ‘partners’ in this above image continue into the Hear Me Out MV in the final scene with the car in the field.

I’ll come back to that in a bit, but back to Chen. The reason I think Chen is lying is because, after Let Me In or some time before it, we’ve seen Chen switch back to being on the side of EXO rather than the spy for the Red Force. I always believed Chen was the spy through manipulation on the Red Force’s side more than any benevolence from Chen, but since his interaction with Xiumin in Let Me In he’s realised what he’s done and is now purposefully using his sway with the Red Force to take control of this testing.

Anyway, after Chen says he doesn’t play games, the day resets at 10:45 with Chanyeol, and many of the events of the day are similar but focused on other members. I do like the continuation of this circle imagery from both days though:

It really reminds me of some of the imagery in KoKoBop and points to the repeating nature of the MVs and the days (also why the washing machine again lol?)

On Chanyeol’s day the boys are waiting for a bowling game to load, but it seems to be taking a long time and so they are distracted on their phones.

We then see Suho notice the clock and time reversing quickly again, and then they seem to be transported to bowling irl.

Or do they get transported? Not long after this we see an image of Xiumin lying on the couch with his phone next to him playing a video of himself.

So, as we see Xiumin sleeping whilst also being in the bowling alley with Sehun and Baekhyun on his phone, we can assume that the bowling alley area is actually another dream plane within the dream plane - one again very Inception like.

One of the kind of interesting things about the bowling scene is that there seems to be an attempt to split the 8 members into two groups. There’s a little scene where you can see D.O, Kai, Sehun and Baekhyun in one lane and Suho, Xiumin in the other - assuming Chanyeol and Chen are in their lane as well means that you have two teams, perhaps competing with each other as they tend to test members 1v1 like that as shown in Romantic Universe, and yet the members are all cheering for each other regardless of team - perhaps following on from Let Me In where the members realised that to succeed against the Red Force they need to always work together.

Speaking of Romantic Universe, one of the fun parallels is the test between Chanyeol and Kyungsoo and comparing it to this MV.

In Romantic Universe, we first see Kyungsoo get tested at the ATM and fail and then Chanyeol comes along and clears the mission immediately. I think it’s interesting we’re getting a mirror of that in this MV where Kyungsoo begins the first day and the day fails and we then get Chanyeol start the day and the day should be a success if we compare to Romantic Universe.

However, as the bowling mission may be a success in the bowling reality, simultaneously, back in the living area where Xiumin sleeps, we see Chen walking to the kitchen and notices a phone moving forward in time very quickly.

The phone lies on the Lego Sehun was building the day before and along with Xiumin’s controller next to him in the scene with him snoozing next to his phone I’m going to say that this scene is actually taking place on Kyungsoo’s day rather than Chanyeol’s, and in fact both these days are taking place at the same time, rather than the bowling being a separate day.

I think the phone then explodes because, as in Romantic Universe, Chanyeol’s day was a success, but not in the way that the Red Forces expected or wanted. Instead, the EXO members by not succumbing to the Red Forces plan to split them up actually supported each other and worked together and temporarily set the RF back. Hence kaboom.

Because the EXO members have succeeded in their endeavour, we then see EXO outside washing a car, happy and relaxing - seemingly having escaped from the groundhog days, and remember what I said earlier about the partners/groups from Parallel Universe being important - this is where we see them temporarily reunite.

If you see in this teaser, Kai and Chen are playing a game; Xiumin and Kyungsoo are building a jenga tower (very similar to the one in Tempo that becomes the cube); Baekhyun plays with the globe and Sehun with a ball; Chanyeol’s drowsily looking into a cup and Suho’s stood alone reading.

Here we see Kai and Chen relaxing and talking together.

Baekhyun and Sehun sleep in the car, with Baekhyun in the driver’s seat holding onto the steering wheel. Chanyeol is also asleep in the backseat but we can’t see his face.

Suho alone by the car where the other three members are snoozing.

And Xiumin playing catch with Kyungsoo. The reason I bring attention to this is because I do think this Universe is set with the same members as from the Parallel Universe world rather than the ones from Let Me In or whatever. It’s really hard to explain concisely but so much of EXO’s storyline only makes sense to me if you forget linear time exists completely. We first got introduced to Parallel Universe during the Power promotions, and in the Power opening narration - if Hear Me Out is in the Parallel Universe and Let Me In I suggested was set with some reference with that opening narration too then it would make sense that the next MV could have some reference to something in that as well - maybe the continuation of Baekhyun falling to the water at the end of Power?

Anyway, we end the MV with Baekhyun this time as well. Baekhyun is sleeping in his car and gets awoken by a new alarm clock that is also stops at 10:45.

Will EXO truly ever be free from the Red Forces and their testing? At this point it’s almost seeming like a no, but maybe we’ll get to see Baekhyun’s day at some point.

There are so many other references in this MV but I could not fit them all in tbh. Definitely think it’s linked to Romantic Universe, KoKoBop, Love Me Right, Sing For You and the Pathcodes though!

EXO Kai 'Rover' mini theory

okay this is a wild idea I got when watching clips and mv of Rover: Kai said he's a spy in the mv.

What if he's infiltrating the RED FORCE HQ??! I'll base it on the red lights in the mv and the barber shop being the secret entrance. The lyrics do have "catch me if you can..." and also we see him using his power of teleportation in the mv! We see some cams with red lights ↓ (cctvs like in monster mv?) so I think I'm on to something.

Edit: What about the lady with red hair (& red nails) in the mv?!

I still don't know what role the ballerina and the rabbit watching Kai(?) play but these were just my thoughts!

Anywho it might be many elements are aesthetically there and not even lore based and what if this is just a crazy analysis?!!

masterpost | instinct variants

since there’s been a rennaissance of mbti in kpop, i’ll introduce you to a related personality typing tool that might interest you. instinct variants!

the three instincts in this system are commonly combined with the mbti to further specify/subtype it (hence it’s called ‘variant’) and, maybe you’ve heard of it, one’s enneagram personality type. but you can also type yourself or others separately, it’s not 100% tied to it. this post will introduce the typology on its own so you can apply it however you want.

:: why “instincts”? because these archetypes indicate the person’s priority in life to secure their well-being, survival, and self-fulfillment. it’s about human instinct, orientation, what compels you.

🍓if you like motivation psychology, this is a great basic way to find out and categorize what drives you/someone. it’s absolutely eye-opening.

so what are the three instincts?

let’s just jump right into it.

we all use ‘em, just by different intensity:

↦ self-preservation (SP), sexual (SX), and social (SO).

that basically covers every area of life. they can be described and associated with the symbolic 6 elements (fire, water, earth, air, metal, wood) like this:

:: 🍎 SELF-PRESERVATION INSTINCT

SP - being preoccupied with the body, immediate environment, daily life, food intake, state of health, housing/home, room temperature, mundane affairs, weather/climate, close-by nature, money, physicality, pleasure or harm of the senses, decor/interior, your things: ‘stuff’, stability, maintenance, economy, cleanliness, transport, property, errands, constancy, business, boundaries, stress, clothing, travel, any living foundations and resources. # PRIMARY FEAR: mortality, sickness, annihilation, poverty

🌳 ELEMENT: earth/wood/metal - solidity, lasting, groundwork

+ common misconception: “only sensing types = self-preservation!”. intuitives can also tap into SP, especially when they use logic. say, an ENTJ could use the self-pres instinct more than an ISFP in some cases.

🌹 SP EXAMPLE. bts’ min yoongi

yoongi is most known for copious producing. he surrounds himself with work, being a calming presence in person. he’s reserved rather than an energizer bunny or a deliberate center of attention. yoongi handles living area repairs, keeping his body warm, cooking, material/financial security, music equipment, and his sleep to a fault. extremely domestic, grounded, and task-oriented. his personality is very ‘earth’.

:: 🍎 SEXUAL INSTINCT

SX - seeking stimulation, merging, passionate outlets, immersion, one’s impulses/urge, chemistry, aliveness, excitement, fusion with/taking in whole an abstract subject/person/activity, fiery thrill, desire, steaminess, arousal, turn-ons/offs, craving VS repulsion, one’s impact, showing the underbelly, risk, surrender, obsession-compulsion, bonding, taboo, attraction or disruption, mating strategy, rawness, grit, edge, being a peacock = flaunting yourself. # PRIMARY FEAR: incompleteness, attraction loss, non-desirability

🔥💧ELEMENT: fire/water - instability, energy, back and forth

+ common misconception: “only this instinct is responsible for relationship topics and sex”. SP also entails stable relations in the home, and reproduction. while SO is a major component in forming interpersonal bonds.

🌹 SX EXAMPLE. shinee’s lee taemin

taemin captivates with alluring stage displays focused on seduction, attractiveness, eroticism, dare. he toys with danger, darkness, S&M, and his work explores gender-nonconformity. taemin gets under the viewer’s skin. he’s characterized as a cheeky flirt, fashionable tease, and provocateur with interests and choreos that would make other people flinch. his personality is very ‘fire & water´.

:: 🍎 SOCIAL INSTINCT

SO - an interest in social surrounding, community, harmonious connection, social protocol, pecking order, looking to others, being a member of sth to derive identity, group safety, bigger causes, competitions, affiliations, broadcasting, self-display, social movements, good/bad people distinction, social graces, upbringing, acceptance, altruism, etiquette, herd mentality, cohesion, family orientation, politics, history/tradition, being ‘seen as ___’, language, articulation, social media, trends. # PRIMARY FEAR: loneliness, alienation, inferiority

💨ELEMENT: air/wind - mobility, communication, fluidity

+ common misconceptions: “people who use SO a lot are extroverts/social butterflies/feelers with a high EQ”. while that is often true, you could be an ISTJ who very much values keeping up community-wise over SP and SX.

🌹 SO EXAMPLE. nct’s mark lee

mark is everywhere you look. he can fit into any subgroup that’s new on the scene. he’s equipped with the latest internet slang and memes - always following the pulse of time and its thousand people projects. mark is seen as a posterboy of his generation, everyone’s younger brother. he’s a guy who can strike conversation with anybody, juggling several fandoms in several languages. his personality is very ‘air´.

typing people is only the beginning, you can also apply the instincts to general phenomena! for instance.

🍒 SP: merch giveaways, ticketing process, designers/sponsors, advertisements, filming and setting equipment, stocks, pop-up stores, physical fanart, food as variety show competition prizes, idol’s dorms, concert logistics, dance studios, physical copies/photocards, organization and schedule, cooking shows, diets, sales, airport touchdowns, idols working out, staff and directors, companies

🍒 SX: music video concepts, fanfic and scenario writers, wake-up bubble messages, one-on-one fanmeets, shipping, youtube fancam compilations, relay cams, aegyo, high note battles, dating bans, things you write in the tags, banger music, choreography, delulus/sasaengs, controversies, group visuals, attractive makeup, niche content creators, romance drama acting, the group center, choosing your bias

🍒 SO: huge scale fansigns, meme creators, multifandom, comebacks, halloween parties, fandom wars, variety shows, clout, viral moments, mascots, fanzines, censorship, music & award shows, kpop slang words, stan twitter, scandals, popular content creators, hierarchy roles (maknae etc), kpop blogs and news outlets/kpop journalism, photoshoots, a concert queue/audience, trainees, debuts and releases, fanchants

☞ see what you pay the most attention to and care the most, where you’re sort of up to date/care a little, and where you don’t keep up with/have no clue. it’ll say everything about which instinct is how strong in you.

how instincts come together

needless to say, these areas overlap and merge. mistyping can be common as this theory intersects three instincts /in relation/ to one another rather than assigning you only one and you’re ready to go.

↳ 🍉 everyone will use a combination of two (!) at once most of the time, one stronger, the other moderate, while disregarding the third. mark, for instance, uses extra SP with his SO, and SX less so. he is an idol that’s more of a cozy social butterfly (SO + SP) rather than having an enticing, intense sensual image like say skz’ hyunjin (SX + SP) that cuts to the chase.

↳ 🍉 almost everyone will hyperfocus on a singular area. attention: SX being a sort of hyperfocus itself, it’s sometimes hard to distinguish. so remember that SX is about human chemistry. in any case — there’s always one strongest instinct contender. hence the other two diminish. the instinct of secondary priority to you will sort of operate in the background. for instance, bts’ jhope’s tidy SP works behind his upbeat SO instinct.

↳ 🍉 in the rare case of someone using all three instincts equally well, they will still have a preference towards one or two and shrug off the third. two instincts always develop at the expense of another one. but are there such people who can do it all? nct’s taeyong strikes me as such:

he looks after over 20 people to ensure inclusion (SO), projects an immense attractive effect on others (SX), cares about cooking/clothing/caring for himself, others and animals (SP). he might have been appointed as nct’s leader as he’s so capable in all instincts. nevertheless, his caregiving SP is his strongest drive, the major theme, added to his sensing function.

...most people have a tendency and crucial order of priority anyway, which i’ll show you now:

instinct stackings

you have a primary instinct, secondary instinct, and blind spot.

😱 the first is the burning focus that’s very set in its tracks: something you almost anxiously/desperately push for. you feel like this piece is missing in your life, so you follow a strong pull. this prevailing motivation is intrinstic, powerful, and on auto pilot. other people will immediately see it in you, while you take it for granted to such a degree you might be unaware. even if you’re not good at it, you want to handle it all by yourself. this area in life is constantly sought-out.

😊 the second is your successful and more laid-back way of going about the first. sort of like a carefree playground, a resource, the home base. it’s the somewhat stashed-away superpower, your area of supporting adjustment to satisfy your dominant 1st drive. the pressure is off here, it’s ‘not that deep’ to you. you ask for help but also can manage by yourself, always adequately so. the secondary instinct feels available and comfortable to the person. there is no extra effort needed. this instinct also keeps other people (!) who overuse or underuse it at bay.

😴 the last is the sacrifice or consequence. your dormant drive that’s blocked out, underdeveloped. it can exhaust you easily when tapped into. it’s an area of awkward insecurity; something you will not wanna talk about. you’re too unbothered, so it wreaks havoc, but you’re also rather ‘free’ from its chains until it suddenly becomes necessary in a situation. you dismiss this overwhelming area of life, compensate with the other instincts. you depend on other people to help you with it.

see how like with stacking together blocks of mbti functions, we slowly move into building individual types by putting instincts into positions of preference?

in essence, the first aka dominant and last instinct positions take things to an extreme (too much VS lack). the middle instinct is usually in perfect tune rather than biting off more than it can chew, or underperforming and never minding the topic at all. you have an entire ‘scale’ right there. and so it follows:

🍓SP in the stacking

SP doms overemphasize dealing with material safety nets and their own body, tidying and organizing and preserving and hustling to survive, building things up to last. they chase their every personal need and self-protect at all costs. (e.g. kun, jennie, xiumin, bom, shownu)

SP 2nds take care of themselves/others as a means to an end checking off all basic survival boxes (e.g. healthy diet, stable income), but don’t take material safety and health to an extreme. they are adequately hands-on, bothering with climate, finance, and living structures in balance. (e.g. wonho, j-hope, chen)

SP blind spots neglect their physical wellbeing and would rather not self-monitor. they eschew topics of proper providing, long-term resources, their living situation/environment. they are anti-conservation with everything and prefer deep transformation, going all out and creating a spark. (e.g. jimin, felix, lisa)

🍓SX in the stacking

SX doms recklessly pursue the juice of a situation, dig deep, divide the masses, go buckwild, and come on very strong, explicit, and shocking. they’re the flame that burns too bright. they want to be polarizingly interesting and feel truly alive jumping from one high to the other: they want all the spice. (e.g. changkyun, yuta, ten, lay, hyuna, jessi)

SX 2nds regularly seek to be rather energized and refreshed, but don’t overdo the heated give and take of SX craving. they’re not obsessive or self-destructive. they control and tame the game of sex appeal and attraction rather than going haywire or fearing to tap into it. they can uphold chemistry. (e.g. chanyeol, minho, bangchan)

SX blind spots are understated, avoid being overly thrilled and immersed in something. they don’t let the guard down. they don’t go at something full throttle and would rather stay too grounded and sterile/bored than getting too much of an emotional, intimate high from something. they’re overcautious. they couldn’t rub the wrong way if they tried and are more subtle in social settings. (e.g. seokjin, johnny, onew, jisoo, suho, boa)

🍓SO in the stacking

SO doms are involved to exhaustion. they know the ropes and ranks, but to a fault, paying attention to influence, connection, status, or acclaim/leadership. they have lots of communication output-input. they screen others all the time. social cues and presentation skills are everything to them. their goal is popularity, display, fitting in, being the 200% team player. (e.g. haechan, baekhyun, s.coups, cl)

SO 2nds will mingle on the occasion. they’re decently community-driven and civil, however not compulsively social nor clout chasers. they are in the loop, but don’t crave ultra-attention. they accurately size up others and curate their friendship/family circle, firm yet flexible in their social identity and position. they join the big cause for its own sake. (e.g. yeonjun, taeyong)

SO blind spots can be out of touch and fall out of social activity, being a one-person island. they don’t want to enter a social order. they omit to ‘present’ themselves and are unaware how they relate to others; don’t maintain social bonds after an initial high. they don’t communicate a ‘brand’ off their identity and character being out there in the herd all the time. (e.g. xiaojun, kyungsoo, hyunjin)

🌹 EXAMPLE. exo’s kai

widely known as passionately ardent to painful extremes with dancing, kai comes forth with intimate solo albums and sultry viral stage moments. he’s an all or nothing magnetic performer, unafraid of doing over-the-top racy concepts that drop jaws (primary SX = the overdrive).

in the meantime, he enjoys general popularity and a lively fandom connection, drawing people in wherever he goes and being the go-to ambassador. he can blend in well, he’s sweet, measured, and lovely with crowds. the will keep disruptive people who step out of line in check. (secondary SO = the adjustment).

“i’d have no regrets dying on stage” — the detriment of his fierce practice have been repetitve injuries to his spine and overwork. kai wants to go the extra mile rather than sparing and protecting himself. jongin also regularly blows up his kitchen 💀🙈 (SP last = the awkward area).

to sum things up:

dominant instinct - most untamed energy is directed and spent here. secondary instinct - stakes are lower, the least problems occur. blind spot - a disregarded area, only ever indirectly or clumsily dealt with.

we use slashes to indicate that stacking order, relinquishing the blind spot.

primary/secondary(/blind spot).

so, kai’s stacking would be called:

“SX/SO”.

meaning: the sexual instinct bleeds into the social one. an individual who will utilize their carnal, expressive display (SX) to entertain/galvanize crowds (SO). it’s a very common stacking among k-pop idols. they embody the sex symbol archetype surrounded by their people/the fandom the most believably, it holds the attention. kai has always gained traction by doing just that.

the two flows.

there are two ways of “sorting” instinct stackings by the person’s priorities. as in all human history: one camp goes with the flow, the other swims against the stream. you have those instinct sequences that conform or rebel. synflow as in synergy (”with”), and contraflow as in contrary (”against”).

❤️ SYN-FLOW (oriented towards people): sp → so → sx → sp. aka the dominant culture. here, instincts all follow each other logically by evolution. first, humans would secure themselves and their home (SP). then, their tribe to belong somewhere (SO), and then find then intimate attractions and a joie de vivre, a zest for life (SX), only then to settle (SP), and then again orient themselves by their community (SO). and so on, as the arrows show: it’s a cycle. synflow is very “life > decay/downfall”.

🌶 CONTRA-FLOW (compelled away from people): sp → sx → so → sp. aka the counterculture. here, instincts become utopian. individuals of this flow would first secure their own safety elusively (SP), aim for metamorphosis looking for mates (SX), and only then become social animals meeting fellow outsiders (SO), only to settle down (SP), only to break it up again causing a spark not to become complacent (SX). synflow favors revolution over harmonious stability.

[- note: SX/SP can seem contraflow since their SO is so low, and SO/SP can feel synflow because their SO is so high, e.g. like j-hope.]

TIP: you can get a feeling where someone belongs by how against the grain they go or whether they nurture what they have. example:

taeyong is synflow SP/SO. wholesome, uniting everyone. he gains the respect of all he’s surrounded by, being the reliable pillar of his sphere. synflow creates community expansion (SP -> SO): nct centering around him is just that. taeyong takes care (SP) of literally everyone (SO).

but, rather than relying on flow alone, it’s always better to type by what you think the preferred instinct is, their secondary drive, and the blind spot. the same goes for having an overview of the theory before taking frankly mediocre internet tests. look at the person’s vita, find the dominant instinct first. and then the blindspot, which is often easier to determine than the 2nd, simply by its sheer absence.

6 overall types emerge.

if you look at your friends or the people whose personality you crush on, you’ll usually either share your dominant instinct and/or come from the same flow. going by the idea that we use two instincts mostly, in a certain order, this results in 6 instinctual archetypes:

synflow: SP/SO, SO/SX, SX/SP contraflow: SP/SX, SX/SO, SO/SP

so the motivations, topics, actions, and blind spots of the 6 types will look like the following. i love the idea of stepping this up a whole notch (beginner learners bear with me) using symbolic ‘realms’ matching the types in the advanced typology of instincts.

SP/SO (realm of animals) - handling resources/the body to manage people/affiliations. one does not chase a craving for chemistry.

SO/SX (realm of humans) - being out there to act out your desire/passion. one forgets to take care of body and home.

SX/SP (realm of hungry ghosts) - exuding magnetic sexuality to establish stability. one does not consciously join a social cause.

SP/SX (realm of the underworld) - assuring resources to bond with something/somebody. one will eschew other’s social game rules.

SX/SO (realm of gods) - flaunting one’s attraction to socialize. one leaves health, safety, and material things to fate.

SO/SP (realm of titans/demons) - navigating community to acquire material benefit. one does not dive into obsessive self-immersion.

compare the tibetan buddhist wheel of life (called bhāvacakra; bhāva (भाव) = “becoming”, chakra (चक्र) = cycle). it explains our ever-revolving existence and root of striving/suffering like a giant populated rosetta stone of the instincts.

the six inner compartments are meant, this is the wheel’s labelled overview to show what goes on in each section:

the theory is not rooted in tibetan buddhism, this is just an example where instincts can be spotted in overarching concepts/archetypes worldwide. i found this analogy incredible and illustrative to remember an allegory for the stackings. since i learned it like this, it hasn’t left my mind.

example. we talked about SX/SO being a common type of kpop idols. they’re found in the realm of gods/heaven so to speak, which is about creating ecstasy, beauty — makes some major sense to me.

instinct health

why do we strive at all? the whole system depends on an imbalance. if neurosis happens, it will show up in an overly pursued primary instinct or a thoroughly discarded blind spot, which tends to coincide with one’s least implemented mbti function(s), but not always. rather, the idea of health goes like this:

the first instinct is often overused. (= ‘unhealthy’)

the second is mostly balanced, supporting the 1st. (= ‘healthy’)

the third is underused. (= ‘unhealthy’)

the term of health is used pretty loosely in this theory, all it means is: there’s either too much, just right, or not enough of an instinct at work. some people’s first instinct may be less intense than another’s, and we all have blind spots of different severity. some use the second instinct effortlessly, others still do baby steps and encounter some road blocks. no stacking is the same.

regardless, the overall tenet is: your instinct stacking is like a subconscious seesaw.

one point high up doing the most (1st instinct), the other down low pushing against (3rd instinct), and everybody forgets what is going on in the middle (2nd instinct) to keep things running 😂

HACKS:

- 🍓a primary instinct overdrive, your ‘demons’, can usually be dealt with by the mellowing secondary influence. it’s the natural consequence of the first instinct anyway. we all use our secondary to cool off the heat. we saw in the evolution history how these things move in circles. however! the dominant instinct will always be one’s #1 inevitable motivation. it is learned and ingrained. you can’t forcibly change your stacking, only focus differently with deliberation to develop yourself. the more you practice the 2nd instinct, the healthier the first will be: the weight is taken off.

- 🍓the 2nd instinct being almost always ‘healthy’ (= not extreme in either direction, too strong or too weak) can help you type someone. where in life have you or the person achieved an equilibrium? something that neither irks you all day and consumes your attention (first), or something you always forget or brush away (blind spot)? by the way: you might awkwardly clash with the stacking that has the same second instinct as you, but they are from the other flow. SX/SP and SO/SP, for instance. you will prioritize entirely different things (1st), and are excellent where the other lacks (3rd), but act the same way (2nd).

- 🍓with most people, one’s blind spot will remain the somewhat helpless enfant terrible. unless... there are other people of the same flow that take on that task for you. but! say you’re SO/SX, you meet an SP/SX who has your dormant instinct as their hyperfocus: it might solve your problems, but... they too unhealthily use self-preservation, and they’re contraflow, while you are synflow! rather, your best bet is an SO/SP. they use secondary self-pres in a balanced way to help your blindspot, and are 100% on board with your 1st instinct focus. and vice versa. hence:

instinct pairings: intertype relations!

yes, there are patterns, even if this aspect of the theory is less explored and not set in stone. as i see it, people of the same instinctual stack are usually besties by being birds of a feather, have you noticed? e.g., stray kids’ felix and chan are both SO/SX! they both bond (= secondary SX) over being aussies publically (= dominant SO).

all stacks within their own flow are rather compatible, and any pairing can work under the right circumstances. don’t discard someone if they seemingly don’t fit your instinct; they could have same ideal love language, a matching mbti type (e.g. ESFJ + INTJ), instinct isn’t everything, et cetera.

🍎 but there are still some (semi-)duals ([rather] ideal partners), activators (energizers), benefactors (helpers), supervisors (leaders), and conflictors (opposers) as type relations that have been theorized to rank like this. the dual is the most, the conflictor the least compatible.

you don’t have to memorize this. it’s just some extra theorizing and playing around with types. let’s break it down with one specific intertype relation:

but SX/SP needs SP/SO (and repeat)

you can see how the supervisor’s own blind spot is the supervisee’s raging first intinct! so the story of this benefit chain goes on and on. 😅 back to the cycle! the less integrated the blind spot, the harder it is to transcend it.

ideally, you would ‘group’ humans as three in each flow: a perpetuum mobile. a family like that would be extremely functional, or a poly relationship. they all cover each other’s weak areas + balance another’s excess energy. meanwhile: love triangles can happen when a person from the opposing flow but the right secondary instinct, or the same dominant instinct enters the scene.

... but let’s talk about which pairings are the most complementary and drama-free.

the ideal dyad constellation is actually pairing instincts that are from different flows, but have the other’s blind spot as their second instinct: and the same first. 💡

shared values and concerns, they click immediately. their ‘home turf’ being the same sticks like glue. their occupied areas in life are synonymous so they will not drift apart. (primary instincts),

and their way of acting healthily in the world (2nd instincts)...

compensates for the other’s skeleton in the closet (=blind spots).

and the fact that they are from opposing flows ironically creates another balance, but enough tension to keep things fresh and dynamic. so let’s announce ‘em!

SP/SO and SP/SX SO/SX and SO/SP SX/SP and SX/SO

so far so good, but as mentioned, it’s not set in stone. you find healthy friendships, parenting, work relations, and lovers of the most random stacking combos. instinct isn’t all there is, it only explains motivation and general focus in life.

That thing is allegedly a juvenile! Which implies it can grow up, well we are just hearing about this thing again for the first time since Beyond Light. So i was thinking, ya know that area by the stranger and the ziggurat? Well theres a chasm there… and if you go to the chasm and just listen you can hear sounds. (Go check it out if you haven’t, they sound like whale noises)

Since this thing is allegedly braytech and can grow up, wouldn’t it be cool to say perhaps down below Europa’s ice some of these things are fully grown and alive? Big whale things??? Maybe so!

But also as another thing, i’d like to draw attention to the name! “Pouka” which my friend also brought to my attention is another spelling of the word Púca which is a shapeshifting creature from Celtic mythos

BUT ALSO, it means “Ghost” :)

What’s my conclusion? Well i think braytech made a model of exo more living than ever thats able to grow and change as if it were alive. Now the implications of it being called a Púca/Pouka/Ghost i do not know but… perhaps I’m onto something here.

I saw the comment on your last ask and wanted to ask what's your 5th gen theory? I know that for me actually looking at the years 5th gen should have started already but it feels like we're still in 4th gen because no one other than a few girl groups have blown up the way that 3rd groups both boy and girl had and anyone who has gotten popular has been in last year or two. Making a big three comparison exo in their 3rd or 4th year was in a very different place than stray kids or treasure now

fifth gen HAS already started! just not where or how you would think. and for clarity's sake: i don't categorize gens by group popularity, and that would be a moot point anyways because the success of previous gen groups is never going to be replicated on the same scale because of how dramatically the industry has changed.

my fifth gen theory is this: there's already starting to be a generation change in the last year, but it's being lead by smaller companies who are unable to sustain the current fourth gen performance model, and subsequently there's either going to be a delayed transition where the big four companies will be the last to debut fifth gen groups, OR there's going to be a full split where big four and other well funded companies can keep producing groups in the fourth gen method, while every other smaller group has an entirely different performance method.

the main characteristic of fourth gen has been very strong and heavy dance skills paired with difficult choreography, on a scale that's much more extreme than previous gens. although a lot of third gen choreography was probably harder on its idols' bodies thanks to the acrobatics, third gen idols were still trained as well rounded performers and were able to transition smoothly out of their stuntmen eras and still be able to maintain their group's artistic identity. in order for companies to ramp up the spectacle factor from this, instead of tricking + stunts they prioritized technically difficult dance, which has translated into the bulk of fourth gen idols being by large, probably the most technically skilled generation of dancers. however, like i've said in previous asks, that has come as a detriment to pretty much every other skill that used to be trained into idols. making the sacrifice of dance vs singing is fine for companies that have the funds to support having big spectacular cbs and have large stable fanbases that consume uncaringly, but it's more of a problem with smaller companies who are getting priced out of being able to afford cbs to even hope to match the scale that fans are coming to expect. so as a result, they're going back to training their idols as more holistic performers and simplifying choreography. i know a lot of people are not paying attention to the rookie bgs but a lot of the ones from the last year and change have been a totally different calibre of performer than the established fourth gen groups, and it's likely to continue that way. my hypothesis is that the last company to catch on fifth gen is going to be the next jype bg, and how they perform is going to be the indication of if there's going to be a staggered transition or a full split.

kai accidentally revealed he shared a bed with soo ??? 🕵️‍♀️

its that time of the year where i randomly watch old exo group content and i think i’ve found something that i don’t hear kaisooists mention much? its theory time!

so i was rewatching starshow360 episode 1 and theres this part where everyone is laughing at chankai's contact lense story, before and during this story it is stated that chankai had the bunkbed and soo had the single bed across the room.

this is a very common knowledge chankaisoo fact, nothing out of the ordinary. chanyeol talks about how kai would drop his contacts from above and they would land on his arm. everyone laughs really hard, sehun and soo are even grabbing each other while laughing.

the host then makes a joke that the contact can fall into chanyeols eye and both baekhyun and kai confirm that he sleeps with his eyes half open.

kai continues to laugh harder and decides to add more to this fact by telling a story of when he thought chanyeol was staring at him.

it might be my delusional kaisoo brain talking here but do you notice something odd?

how exactly is chanyeol “staring” at kai in the 1st place if theyre on a bunk bed? kai is on the top bunk meaning he would have to peek over the top to see chanyeol sleeping below and if that were the case kai would technically be the one staring at him. this leads me to believe that kai was in fact across from chanyeol in the only other bed in the room. mr. doh kyungsoo’s bed.

not only does this help kai’s story make sense but I would also like the point out that the member’s body language and laughs completely change once kai says this. as previously mentioned, they were all laughing pretty hard at the 1st part of the story, to the point where they were banging tables and moving around, but if you look at the screenshots above the members are suddenly more stiff as they listen to his story. kai seems pretty oblivious to the members change in attitude and continues to be the only one laughing along with the hosts, chanyeol just grins awkwardly and then the hosts cut his story off by saying he should dispose his lenses more properly.

so was he misremembering or is there something more going on? 🕵️‍♀️

What is Kwangya?

This is the question that many still struggle to answer adequately. You have an idea of what it is, but the precise explanation of its origin and operation still eludes many. I admit that neither of us fully comprehends it. Much of our stories are based on our beliefs about what it is, filling in the gaps that have not yet been explained as coherently as possible. We invest our time in researching all types of media, seeking information in the most remote places, and believe me, we've found many interesting discoveries along the way. For example, who the true conductor of the train is (it's not LeesoMan); why EXO rarely uses their powers on Earth; what Atlantis is; among other questions…

Some of these answers can be found between the lines of our stories, but let's start with the essential. What is Kwangya.

Without further ado, Kwagya emerged from the Ether. That's right, the Ether, as mentioned by the NCT group, which means the sea of the unconscious, where everything dreamed becomes reality. This is why it is emphasized in various NCT and AESPA songs that one should never ask for or wish for something within Kwangya/Ether. As they explain, Kwagya was born from the unconscious of the beings that inhabit the cosmos (Kosmo-zen). In other words, Kwangya is nothing more and nothing less than the manifestation of a playful dream, a vast and limitless space where everything is connected, both physically and non-physically. Therefore, it is not a literal place but rather a space where the world and the home of each artist combine.

However, it is important to note that Kwangya is a dangerous place, even for the most powerful beings there. Being in contact with the Ether can be harmful if one is not prepared, especially mentally. Humans are the most fragile and sensitive to the effects of the Ether. Hence, means of transportation like the train shown in SMTOWN 2022 are so crucial. It was created to be a safe place while transporting anyone, provided they have permission from a Kosmo-zen to be there. This means of transportation within Kwangya offers a vital safeguard against the dangers of the Ether, ensuring that those who use it are protected while exploring this fascinating and mysterious world.

EXO Theory Pt. 14 - Let Me In

Hello, it’s been a while. Not sure if anyone will read this, but I am in the mood to write down some more EXO theory so... here we are.

To Let Me In - I love this song. It’s so wonderful, and I am eagerly anticipating the full album and the next two MVs - hopefully they will also be chockful of lore because that’s what makes EXO MVs so fun.

The main theme of this MV seems to be time reversal. At the beginning of the MV we watch a boy throw a stone into the water, somehow setting off a chain of events that become the music video.

By the end though we are watching the stone fly back up out of the lake and everything in the music video become undone.

This idea of a time loop, or an erasure of time in a singular event is not new to EXO. Back in the days of Pathcode teasers, we were told Beginning=End, then in Tempo promotions it became End=Beginning.

If we take the beginning literally to mean the beginning of the story, and the beginning of EXO, we have to look at MAMA, and there is a significant line in the opening narration:

“To tend and embrace the Heart of the Tree of Life, the legends hereby divide the Tree in half and hide each side, hence time is overturned and space turns askew.”

Since the beginning time has been overturned and non-linear. This has been reflected time and time again in the MVs. A theory I’ve long since held is that the members could somewhat control this disturbance to time and space through their powers - ultimately you had two members at the beginning who could control time (Tao) and space (Kai). Since Tao is no longer in the group and his power is gone, the members have much less control of time and so that is why in Miracles in December when Tao is present, he can make time go backwards himself and he can determine the outcome to keep the members safe but now there is nobody to control it and so the members are almost bystanders to its effects.

If you’ve read other parts of my theory you would know that I had suggested that Kai’s power had been somewhat sacrificed early on in the timeline so that the Guardians could keep the Heart safe - if that’s true then the EXO members now have little control over space either, or at least a drastically decreased control, which is why we are now seeing space become disturbed in the new MV.

I personally think that this entire era, but specifically Let Me In is the time that was described at the beginning of Power, when the narrator says:

“The universe has transformed. Distorted space has been reassambled. Warped time has been reset and the unpurified Red Force imbrued two suns with darkness.”

That seems to be talking about the events of Let Me In. Especially if you consider Let Me In to be directly after Don’t Fight the Feeling and/or Obsession where we see meteors fall and planets set alight. We watch in real time as time resets itself and space reassembles. I’m cautiously predicting we will see more of this, and perhaps the two imbrued suns, in the following MVs for this comeback. I hope so.

Back to the actual events of the MV, another major theme of this video seems to be isolation. Again, this isn’t necessarily new to EXO. It definitely gives me strong Pathcode vibes but there are multiple EXO MVs where the members are alone (Sing For You, For Life, Universe, Lightsaber just to name a few). Four members are alone for the entirety of the MV (in terms of members, ofc Kai is joined by a doggy) but what’s interesting is that three of these alone members - Suho, Chanyeol and Kai - actively interact with a rock just like the boy at the beginning. This is perhaps signifying that these three are the most responsible for the reassembling of space.

What I mean by this is, in my theory, Suho is the most ‘captured’ by the Red Force, this is shown a few different ways, in Lucky One, Pathcode, and Obsession.

In Let Me In, we see Suho playing with a light and then watching his rock almost yearning for it, yearning for the ability to have an active role and be able to fight back in any way, but he can’t. So he watches it as it falls and does nothing and space and time are reassembled by virtue of Suho not currently being able to fulfil his role as a Guardian.

Chanyeol is the member I have deemed the ‘most blinded’ by the Red Force. Chanyeol has been duped by the Red Force time and time again in believing the wrong things, and he is also the only member I would definitively say lost his battle against his X-EXO counterpart in Obsession. In this MV, we see Chanyeol in a desolate field (again, akin to Pathcode) and actively picking up his rock.

And then, when he does pick it up it begins to float up and create a meteor. Now, it’s almost certain that this isn’t literal as this isn’t Chanyeol’s power, but his decisive action to pick up the rock is enough to show that his ability to have been deceived so intensely has had an effect on space and time and made it unstable. However, this action actually seems to be the catalyst for everything reversing so perhaps Chanyeol has managed to stop being deceived.

Lastly, Kai is the member as I said earlier who is in charge of space (teleportation). In Let Me In it’s interesting that he is sat atop a car (a symbol I believe in EXO’s MVs always references taking back control) and then leaves the car only for it to be crushed by a satellite.

Very similar to this in Love Me Right: Romantic Universe and even more parallels in that they both get crushed and then time reverses and the car is restored and Kai returns to the car and is there greeted by the dog holding the rock in its mouth.

I think this is inferring that Kai has to take back control of his own power at full force to regain a command over space and help reassemble it the correct way. And we see in the MV once Kai takes the rock things begin to distort and then return to normal.

Now, if we were to look at the last isolated member it would be Baekhyun. Baekhyun is seen by the ocean, and the only thing he really does in this music video is watch a large meteorite begin to emerge from the ocean and then return.

The only really significant thing about this is that it may be the same object as the one D.O was drawing.

However, as the object begins to emerge at the same time the other three members are interacting with the little rocks perhaps Baekhyun’s rock is just massive because of the significance of his role overall as one half of the Heart? I’m not sure if I truly buy into that but I’m a bit lost to what Baekhyun’s role in this MV is tbh.

Moving on to the pair of Sehun and D.O, I find the interaction between these two in this MV very strange as though they don’t remember each other but definitely recognise each other to some degree. I wonder as to why, as we don’t see anything like that with the other pair of Xiumin and Chen.

What is interesting about Sehun and D.O’s part in Let Me In though is that the thing that triggers time resetting is when Kyungsoo goes to leave and the thing that fixes it for them is reuniting.

It’s funny because you don’t really get many proper interactions between Sehun and Kyungsoo in their MVs and the only one I really remember is when Sehun almost shot D.O in Power so I wonder if there was a need for them to reconnect and make-up for them to be able to get back to how things are meant to be. Seems likely. Especially when you realise there is another reconciliation in this video between Chen and Xiumin. Now, when I first watched this MV this was my favourite scenes, it has to be said. Why? Because of what their supposed argument is about.

The first thing that stood out to me as I watched their scenes was that, obviously the two are watching themselves on a screen - something that is common in EXO MVs as well - but in the beginning it’s just Chen and he looks so ashamed and guilty every time he watches it. And then we see the clip that Chen is watching and their argument seems to be centred around Chen opening the curtains and then Xiumin looking angry or disappointed.

To me, this is once again a very extraneous link to Chen being the spy and trying to show Baekhyun’s true identity as the Heart. When Chen opens the curtains a bright light is shone upon the room, and Xiumin looks away angrily. Baekhyun’s power is light and the act of opening the curtains is like revealing the secret to the world (metaphorically speaking ofc) and it’s the only thing that may explain Xiu’s anger at the action. And their friendship is only restored at the end when time is reversed and Chen shuts the curtain.

We could also interpret this as Chen shedding the role of spy and returning to EXO as, again, that is the only way things can be for the EXO members to win.

All in all, I think this is what this MV is about. Things returning to the beginning, the members coming back together and working as one to try and successfully fight against the Red Force. We know from the Power MV that the Red Force still has some wins in imbruing two suns, and so we know things will be even more desperate if EXO remains disjointed and dubious of one another so this is the first step in returning to the beginning, and, ultimately, ending things and destroying the Red Force.

We see the phases of the moon. In some way this represents how half side is bright and the other dark (that could mean that EXO has to endure the fight since both parts are their own):

Crudely we are given to understand that they have to remain in a state of balance to be the legends but RF has somehow disturbed this balance.

The trailer was released on 8 Nov '19. What if X-EXO came alive on the blood moon (total lunar eclipse)? The phenomenon had been observed sometime in Nov 1909, 1928, 2022. A solar eclipse is shown and then we see destruction. I'm confident that EXO regain powers from this as seen in Power, What is Love. And since X-EXO are their halves or smth they get powers too.

Exo Planet #4 - The EℓyXiOn vcr shows us how the exos were being chased by some unknown beings who had the same powers as them. Kai opened the portal doors and rescued them just in time. Now we know these beings were X-EXO.

Okay so first they show us what is the result of X-EXO's actions. We find that from 0:11 some member's dna turns black (at first I thought it faded and crumbled) and then Kāi is shown — it could be a hint that it's him who is corrupted as he also fades.

Then appears THE TREE OF LIFE?!! And a fire which renders it dry 😦(the mv seems to be set on exoplanet). We can see how the eye of the RF coveted the heart of the tree as was prophesied in MAMA intro.

Since we see Chanyeol's power directly harming it, I'm convinced what I discussed about him here might be true... Next we see a sandstorm and then booming thunder (Respective x-exo members shown in reverse order then)

I'm sure u must have noticed all this but from 0:32, something very interesting happens: a red drop is shown to separate from a source of water and it shines as it ascends. Suhø's shot is briefly interrupted by Baëkhyun - hmm.

Even in the photobooks, they have pics next to each other. This could mean that they're together in on smth. (Notice Suhø's hand on his throat, I'll discuss about this later in this post)

In the EXplOration Dot vcr, we find Baëkhyun looking at a screen. I'm pretty sure he is monitoring the other members. This leads to another theory of a binary between him and Suhø.

Back to EXODEUX, exo's powers prove to be very destructive since they've fallen into wrong hands. At 0:56 we see them facing a red celestial ball very much like our sun but creepy. Is this the eye of the RF? Another possibility is that it could be one of the two suns created as shown in Power intro because the legends separated into M & K. Once again we see Suhø and Baëkhyun facing each other:

We get a closer look at their eyes and all seem to have blue eyes:

Hold it! Chën has one blue eye and one dark brown!!! (he has red and white lashes too)

The conclusion I make from these clues is that jongdae has learnt how to regain that balance we talked about. So my earlier assumption as discussed in part i might not be correct and it is Chen who has won the fight. At first Chën looks confident but slowly as the game progresses, it is Chen who becomes more confident - he put his feet on the table.

• Let's analyze the mv now. The first fight shown is of Baek and his evil counterpart in a match of fencing. We see that the audience is dark hooded figures with red eyes:

One thing I noticed is that when Baekhyun is shown alone, there are white lights turned on and the stands for the audience are empty. But when Baëkhyun is alone, the lights are off and some red lights glow overhead (cctv cams?).

Baëkhyun looked like he hurt himself in the fight (some people theorize he wears a face-chain to cover his wound):

I would safely assume that nobody won or lost the match. This is because both are seen facing each other even in the final shot of this set.

• Moving on to Sehun; he tries to aim arrows at his evil double Sehůn. We see how many times he has tried but missed his target. There is a similar blue target behind Sehun too:

In EXODEUX we look closely at the aesthetic of X-EXO's eyes and all of them have dark makeup or scars - all but Sehůn! His eyes are clean and pure from the influence of the RF.

In the teaser poster below, Sehůn (case 94) is the only one on whom the target is not locked!

He is never seen with his double and is trying to fake it and trick the RF!! While the other X-EXO mems look sinister/appear expressive, Sehůn seems unbothered.

He is the only member who has concept pics with a blue background. Furthermore, his nails are almost clean and not like the other X-EXO ppl.

Sehun is also the only Exo member to appear in the EXODEUX Trailer at the end. All of this is too much of a coincidence and I believe he already fought his counterpart, won and has come to save EXO as we see in his mv remake (2014):

• Now let's talk about Suho's scenes. Suho is looking around in an art gallery full of pictures based on water and waves. He is suspended mid-air in the place but a new shot shows it is much more deeper than that both literally and figuratively: he is trapped underwater and his evil counterpart is the one trying to drown him.

Suhø is standing in water with 7 unknown hands reaching out to him - this could be a biblical reference to the seven deadly sins. Since the album was released in 2019, this is a nod to my fav group's 7th anniversary. Come to think of it he has red hair styled as devil's horns (junmyeon looks so perfect oml):

In the beginning, he is shown trying to control the members as if they are puppets (yeah well I've watched this mv in slow-mo many times)

At 1:55 we notice a choking Suhø (junmyeon confirmed this) - the imagery is very creepy. This is because if Suho drowns, his double would choke too.

Sehun shoots arrows at his evil counterpart and gets hurt himself.

The recurrent theme is that whichever side - the good or the evil one tries to harm the other, both suffer the same fate. Why? because they are halves of each other as we discussed in the beginning of this post.

Getting back to the mv, the planets start to align as this happens.

This is just like the narration in MAMA intro: ...The day the grounds beget a singe file before one sky...

The teaser posters have this "Warning" on them:

Moving on, we find out how the X-EXO are nothing but agents and creation of the RF. Notice how the screen inside Suhø's head is very similar to the ones in and outside Chen's room.

•I'd like to talk about the red glowing marks on some of X-EXO ppl. Only Sehun's and Chanyeol's evil doubles do not glow. This could be another clue that Sehůn is good. The other X-EXO mems are corrupted. Instead Yeøl appears in inverted and oversaturated colors looking demonic.

• Another thing I noticed at around 3:06 of mv Jongdae and Suho sing this for the first time:

"The turned-on exit light" instead of "The turned-off exit light" as in chorus.

The ending shows a burning planet (initially I thought it was Earth but then I noticed it looked a bit different). SM confirmed it is "half of" exo Planet. Additionally it has a deep red glow ofc hinting this is because of the RF. There is still hope for exo to recover and defeat their enemies.
