I, personally, am not throwing my name in the hat this year for various reasons. But I AM running Pitchmas again this year! Today’s the day the names go out actually, so I should get in that.

As for Experimentation, I’m sure everyone knows by now that this thing is unpredictable as fuck and I never know WHEN I’m going to have a chapter done… But I am HOPING to have one done by Christmas. Hoping.

Demonstration (rough trace test)

I know these aren’t good, & her face is abysmal since any fine detail at this level of graph is pretty much impossible but in terms of learning some sense of spacial execution of the general anatomy I think these are very successful so far. I like it lol. I feel mildly accomplished so i guess that’s the point.

Here are my ‘highly scientific’ findings. Don’t try this at home. Talk to a doctor. I’m not a medical professional. YMMV. etc.

The above picture was taken the day before I started taking the pills.

28, 185ibs.Taking 1 pill/day.

Findings and symptoms: Days 1-30.

‘Placebo effect rating’ if how much I would attribute this to a placebo. Obviously this is biased because it’s coming from me, but it’s better than nothing for reference.

Weight gain. Hooooboy, weight gain. I when I started taking these, I didn’t change up my diet or exercise regime at all. But by Day 30, I weighed 196. Yup, you read that right, I put on 11lbs in 30 days - without changing any other factors. Placebo effect rating 0/10.

Hot flushes. I stopped taking these for Thanksgiving. On the second day without taking them, I was burning up at a table of 9 people - none of whom were hot at all. This happened periodically for the rest of the night, and then the next night, and then the night after. It got better over time, and it was only on night 3 that I realized what the actual fuck was going on.  Placebo effect rating 0/10.

Breast Growth. The tiniest, tiniest amount. But I never had anything resembling breasts before. I had a fair amount of muscle left over, but now I have flesh I can’t tense up. This may also be straight up due to the weight gain, which I’ll only know when I lose the weight. Day 30 picture coming soon.  Placebo effect rating 3/10.

Clearer skin. This is always a hard one to judge, so I’m really on the fence about this one.  Placebo effect rating 8/10.

Easier to shave. I felt like the hairs on my face, which are usually only removable through atomic bomb like effort, actually came away more easily.  Placebo effect rating 5/10.

Fatter butt. I’ve put on all this weight, but not that much of it has gone to my belly. I will post pictures.  Placebo effect rating 4/10.

The experiment continues. I’ve started running increasingly long length of time, and I’m going to stop drinking (as much) to hopefully lose some of the weight. Wish me luck!

Anthotype

Nike Design Exploration Presents: Farther Than The Future (E2) | Explore Without Boundaries | Nike

Nike Design Exploration is a coalition pushing creativity beyond what’s charted, expected or previously discovered. NDE presents three distinct collections: ISPA, ESC and NSRL. This new film series, Explore Without Boundaries, delves into how these collections span a broad spectrum of design, but are aligned with one singular mantra. The second episode of Explore Without Boundaries delves deep into the science of design. Host Samuel Ross welcomes Shamees Aden and Caroline Fullerton of ISPA and Caroline Till, cofounder of FranklinTill. They discuss biocentric design and how to work within that natural system. The Nike Sport Research Lab strives to be on the cutting edge of this science, so in the second half of the video, Ross is joined by Joanie Larose and Jacob Arnold from the NSRL team to find out more about their processes and what they’re bringing to life in their new collection. Experiment & Reflect

Similar to my experimentation to recreate the detail of the chrysalis X-ray, I wanted to look at the butterfly in more detail.

I found the below image of a butterfly egg and it reminded my of my initial thoughts about the track. There’s something really weird and other worldly about how this looks at a microscopic level.

image

Image via Pinterest

To recreate this I used bubble wrap and acrylic paint.

image

I covered the bubbles with the black paint and then pressed onto card.

image

I then added some colour, keeping to the theme of black and pink that I had used in previous experiments.

image
image
image

I love how this turned out but it lacked texture. I decided to take some photos of the actual bubble wrap to bring in some texture.

image
image
image

I also tried smaller bubble wrap and a corn on the cob to recreate the cells of the egg. I think the smaller bubble wrap looks ok but the larger version has much more impact. The corn on the cob didn’t work at all.

Aww, man. I’m sorry you’re having trouble with anxiety. :( I know how much that can suck. I’m so glad Experimentation has become something that helps you, though! We need those things that can help keep us grounded when it tries to spiral and get us to float away. Thank you for sticking with me all these years!

In my crit a suggested experiment would be to print out a black and white collage onto coloured paper and see what it’d look like. I remade each collage, scanned it in and i added a threshold to get it completely black, and then i erased any white bits. I then scanned these prints back in.

I messed up the order: immediately before “L'altra notte” was a second Chinese song, also very well-performed:

image

after that a little girl from the children’s chorus told a story of a dream she had about her family; then the rest of the children’s chorus came on and sang a really lovely French choral piece about kites and flying:

image

then an odd moment—a contemporary song (I think written specifically for this project?) superimposed over music from Berlioz’s Symphonie fantastique:

image

(why don’t they have captions for the recorded songs?)

then a lullaby composed by someone I’d never heard of by Claude Vivier; this one will stick in my head for a while:

image

a third call-back to Mefistofele with a performance of the Walpurgisnacht chorus from Act II:

image

then a reading of excerpts from Paul Lawrence Dunbar’s poem “We Wear the Mask” (fitting given the times):

image

and a frankly unsettling arrangement of Schubert’s Gretchen am Spinnrade that included material of the Dunbar poem:

image

and a bit of Mahler’s Symphony of a Thousand:

image

then first a South-Asian-infused arrangement of a Brahms piece and after that an electronic late-20th-century American composition while the chorus played with a huge white tarp:

image

and then the show ends with people slowly stepping onto the tarp. every time someone steps onto the tarp, a different bit of music plays: everything from part of the prologue of Mefistofele to Spanish guitar music. reading the live chat made it even cooler: it turns out that the piece was being composed in real time, as some of the sounds (particularly the electronic and whoosh sounds) were triggered by body sensors picking up movements from the performers. how cool is that?!?!

image

all in all, fantastic show. great experimental work. great representation. we need more stuff like this.

how long has it been since i did original content on here (ages, it’s been ages)

Anyway… I had a couple whumpy ideas about how a half-snake person would make a good whumper, caretaker and/or whumper, so here you are :3

Snake Hybrid Whumper

- a venomous snake whumper who keeps their whumpee(s) continually dosed with venom, which may be soporific, paralytic, and/or addictive.

- you could go the intimate!whumper direction and have the whumper bite the whumpee, or it could through a sterile syringe.

- a boa-constrictor type whumper could capture their victims by wrapping them up in their coils, if they have the lower body of a snake. Or perhaps they just really enjoy strangling/choking their victims.

- a cold-blooded whumper might keep the whumpee’s prison far too warm, especially if the whumpee is a hybrid of a creature from a cold environment, or which has a lot of fur.

- the whumper might keep a whumpee that’s also a snake hybrid, and knows exactly how to make them uncomfortable/sick.

Snake Hybrid Whumpee

- hisses when scared, which the whumper mocks.

- they’ve had their venom fangs removed, which was very painful and left them feeling vulnerable. If the whumpee escapes, they might struggle to hunt their prey.

- a snake hybrid whumpee might be self-conscious of their eating habits, which have been viewed with disgust by others, as they swallow prey whole.

- they may be vulnerable after eating a large meal, as they go sluggish and weak, which is when the whumper strikes [not sure how accurate that one is].

- they became a snake hybrid through extensive experimentation, which was very painful.

- shedding their scales is uncomfortable and difficult to scratch when their hands are bound.

- a hybrid not being looked after properly by a human whumper or caretaker who is ignorant of their needs, or neglectful. The snake hybrid doesn’t get the right food/have the right temperature, etc.

- hybrid picking at their scales when stressed, scales not growing back where they’ve been scarred (by the whumper or in an accident), whumper cutting off their scales (possibly because they’re valuable).

- a whumper harvesting the whumpee’s venom, because it’s valuable (as poison/weapon/medicine).

Snake Hybrid Caretaker

- a hybrid caretaker who’s venomous and absolutely willing to use that to protect their whumpee. The whumpee was afraid at first, but now they feel safe.

- a symbiotic relationship between a whumpee that runs hot and a hybrid caretaker as the whumpee curls up in the caretaker’s coils and feels safe there. The caretaker in return gets their own little heater.

- a hybrid caretaker would know exactly how to care for their own kind, and to read their body language. If they speak in hisses, it may be that the caretaker is the only one who understands them, and hasn’t treated them as an animal, in years.

- a hybrid caretaker who catches prey for the whumpees they care for, who have had their venom fangs removed.

~

okie… that’s all i think! Anyone has anymore ideas, or does a story based off these, pls tag me! I’m gonna tag @deluxewhump because she knows snakes and might tell me if i made any glaring mistakes, hope you don’t mind <3

Also there is a Masterpost (posts 1- 29) for this series here.

(Mythical whump series 30 - continuations on request)

If you’d like a mythical creature done for this, send me an ask!! <3
