IT’S DONE!!! =D

The Mini-mockup for my Thranduil Cosplay—that I’ve been talking about for legit months in posts like Elven Excalibur, Pan Flag Flower Crown, and Camouflage—is finally DONE~!!! ｡ﾟ✧.ヽ(♦*´∀`*)ﾉ.✧｡ﾟ

The doll (Duil Doll) that wears it isn’t finished yet (I need to redo the hair since it doesn’t quite work right with the sleeves AND I still need the yarn for the eyes) but he looks fantastic in this dress still (in my opinion, at least xD;;;)

And, either way, I’m just... so proud of myself xD This is the first design/pattern I’ve thought up myself and it legit turned out better than I thought it would.

((O, and don’t mind the bundle at the bottom: the picture was just so plain without them and, honestly, the orange leaves were roughs for my Leafy Vine Vest [which I haven’t talked about but am almost done with—I think lol—so please look forward to that, too!] and the Fellowship broach because I wanna make a Legolas doll, too, for both Duil Doll and myself when I cosplay Duil so I’m gonna give him a lil Lorien Leaf Broach when he’s done! The flower was random [pretty sure it’s like a year old now lol] and the green leaf [lol the legolas] was one of my first leaves ever and actually also the same as the leaves in the Pan Flower Crown just in a different yarn [they’re also meant to be American Beech Tree leaves but we’re gonna get to that Oropher headcanon later]. Lastly: I went with bell sleeves [yes I know that’s not canon/accurate] because the doll’s hands wouldn’t really fit well if the sleeves were slim/tight like they should be and I just think it’s pretty))

i don't really like when people say dungeon meshi is accidentally good autistic representation, because while i understand not wanting to make conclusions without explicit confirmation from the author, there's always the weird assumption that non-western authors somehow don't know about things like neurodivergency/queerness/etc. (on top of the assumptions that east asian authors are somehow more naive or oblivious to "western" social issues).

given that dungeon meshi started being published in 2014, it's not really a "work belonging to its times"—it's as contemporary as any other media we discuss on this site, which means it should be fair to assume it engages with contemporary topics (and at the very least, you shouldn't say that the representation is accidental with so much confidence)

but anyways, the chapter "perfect communication" in ryoko kui's "terrarium in a drawer" is some of the most straightforward autistic representation I've seen, and from now on I'm going to assume that laios's character writing is absolutely intentional in that regard:

Random Evil Thought (13)/Evil’s Greenwood Headcanons (#5): Legolas' Heterochromia Iridum

Little known thought I suddenly feel like sharing but...

I actually gave Ektalas (my OC silvan elf/Legolas' mom/Thranduil's wife) gold eyes instead of the fandom's seemingly favored blue because technically Duil has blue eyes even if mine's is more silvery and tends to turn (read: glow) green whenever he does his ancient elven earth magic BTS footage (and footage that was mistakenly unedited in the movies) says that the blue contacts Orlando Bloom had to wear for the role often hurt his eyes so he didn't end up wearing them after a while and they just edited (most of lol) the shots with his eyes in them to blue (meaning that in some shots he still has brown eyes to careful viewers) AND my best friend from middle school had blue eyes most days and then green eyes on others (so some days her driver's license is wrong lol) which gave me the idea that Legolas also has eyes that change and his brown/hazel eyes actually come from his mother's gold eyed genes while his blue eyes come from his father's blue tinted silver eyed ones!

I just. I just… i have discovered something. And I have laughed too much. I have laughed every time I have tried to explain it to someone. I cannot get through this.

There are two things you need to know, here.

First: There’s a style of Greek pottery that was popular during the Hellenic period, for which most of the surviving examples are from southern Italy. We call them ‘fish plates’ because, well, they’re plates, and they’re decorated with fish (and other marine life).

They’re very cool. We’re not 100% sure what they were for, because most of the surviving ones were found as grave goods, but that’s a different post.

The second thing you need to know is that when we (Classics/archaeology/whatever as a discipline) have a collection of artefacts, like vases, sculptures, paintings, etc. and we do not know the name of the artist, but we’re pretty sure one artist made X, Y and Z artefacts, we come up with a name for that artist. There are a whole bunch of things that could be the source for the name, e.g. where we found most of their work (The Dipylon Master) or the potter with whom they worked (the Amasis Painter), a favourite theme (The Athena Painter), the Museum that ended up with the most famous thing they did (The Berlin Painter) or a notable aspect of their style. Like, say, The Eyebrow Painter.
