The Best Trope Ever Showdown: Round 1, Side A
Grey-and-Gray Morality
Propaganda:
Stories with clear Good Guys and Bad Guys just aren't as interesting. Stories where everyone has a point and everyone is a little bit right and a little bit wrong allows for such deep character exploration and a much richer story overall.
Body Swap
Propaganda:
good ol fashioned body swap
Because it makes the characters understand each other more! If they are a couple or siblings or friends it strengthens their relationship (usually) and if they are enemies then it often can mark a starting point of a new relationship or break of animosity to help character growth or unite them against the Actual Enemy. Sometimes they have to learn a lesson before switching back, sometimes it is just Mischief! and other times it is simply What Happens. However it happens I LOVE all of it. And it is in a wide variety of media usage too.

Common Emitter Configuration Of Transistor In Physics (PDF Included In PhL Physics Library)
Common Emitter Configuration Of Transistor In Physics
Transistors are fundamental components in modern electronics, serving as amplifiers, switches and other crucial functions. Among the various transistor configurations, the common emitter configuration stands out for its versatility and widespread application. In this article, we delve into the intricacies of the common emitter configuration, exploring its operation principles, characteristics and practical significance in the realm of physics and electronic engineering.
Transistor Basics
Before delving into the common emitter configuration, let’s briefly review the basics of transistors. Transistors are semiconductor devices with three terminals : the emitter (E), base (B) and collector ©. These terminals are doped differently to create either NPN or PNP transistors. In an NPN transistor, the emitter is N-type, the base is P-type and the collector is N-type. Conversely, in a PNP transistor, the doping arrangement is reversed.
Common Emitter Configuration
The common emitter configuration is a type of transistor amplifier circuit where the emitter terminal is common between the input and output circuits. This configuration is widely used due to its high voltage and current gain capabilities, making it suitable for applications requiring amplification, such as audio amplifiers, signal processing circuits, and more.
Operation Principles Of Common Emitter Configuration Of Transistor
To understand how the common emitter configuration operates, let’s break down its functioning into key steps :
1. Biasing : Proper biasing is essential to ensure the transistor operates in its active region. In the common emitter configuration, a DC bias voltage is applied between the base and emitter terminals to establish the necessary operating point.
2. Input Signal : An AC input signal is applied between the base and emitter terminals. This signal modulates the current flowing through the base-emitter junction, causing variations in the transistor’s conductivity.
3. Amplification : The modulated current in the base-emitter junction controls the flow of current between the collector and emitter terminals. Due to the transistor’s inherent amplification properties, small changes in the base current result in much larger changes in the collector current.
4. Output Signal : The amplified output signal appears across the load resistor connected to the collector terminal. This signal is an amplified version of the input signal, albeit with increased voltage and current levels.
Characteristics Of Common Emitter Configuration Of Transistor
The common emitter configuration exhibits several key characteristics that make it suitable for various applications :
1. Voltage Gain : The voltage gain of the common emitter configuration is relatively high, typically ranging from tens to hundreds. This gain is essential for amplifying weak input signals to levels suitable for driving output devices.
2. Current Gain : The current gain, also known as the beta (β) of the transistor, represents the ratio of collector current to base current. In the common emitter configuration, β is typically higher than in other configurations, further enhancing the amplification capabilities.
3. Inverted Output : One notable characteristic of the common emitter configuration is that the output signal is inverted concerning the input signal. This inversion results from the transistor’s inherent behavior, where an increase in base current leads to a decrease in collector current.
Practical Significance Of Common Emitter Configuration Of Transistor
The common emitter configuration finds widespread application in various electronic devices and circuits. Some notable applications include :
1. Audio Amplifiers : Common emitter amplifiers are commonly used in audio amplification circuits due to their high voltage and current gain characteristics, making them ideal for driving speakers and headphones.
2. Radio Frequency (RF) Amplifiers : In RF circuits, the common emitter configuration is employed to amplify weak radio signals received by antennas before further processing and demodulation.
3. Signal Processing Circuits : The high gain and linearity of common emitter amplifiers make them suitable for various signal processing tasks, such as filtering, modulation and demodulation.
In conclusion, the common emitter configuration of a transistor is a fundamental building block in electronic circuits, offering high voltage and current gain characteristics essential for amplification purposes. Understanding the operation principles and characteristics of this configuration is crucial for designing and implementing various electronic systems across a wide range of applications. Whether in audio amplifiers, RF circuits or signal processing circuits, the common emitter configuration plays a pivotal role in modern electronics, underscoring its significance in the realm of physics and electronic engineering.

Reflection on A Passage from Kierkegaard’s Journal
Somaya Said

PHL 366 Existentialism, Art, Culture Section 2
Prof. Paula Shwebel
October 5th, 2021
Throughout his life’s work as a philosophical thinker, Soren Kierkegaard has explored in depth the ideas of existentialism, existential truth, and what it means to find oneself under the umbrella of these topics. Through his personal diary, he details his experience with his existential journey and his thoughts on how one can go on one’s own journey of self-discovery.
In the first paragraph, Kierkegaard speaks about “a truth which is true for me, to find the idea for which I am willing to live and die.” (Soren Kierkegaard, 1 August 1835)  My interpretation of this thought is that Kierkegaard is on the hunt for himself, and what his true passions are, as well as wanting to discover what he believes in and what following his own path means to him. I think that he is describing the feeling of wanting to know what one stands for, and the yearning to discover one’s true purpose. Kierkegaard then moves on to describe how he believes finding one’s existential truth cannot be accomplished by following in another’s footsteps. Kierkegaard moves on to discussing objective truth, and what that means for him and his own life, and the difference between this and a truth that is taken up alive within himself (existential truth). When reviewing this paragraph I pulled from it the idea that the use of theory and objectiveness in the search for truth is useless, because one will always be able to find things within the theory of objective truth that one may disagree with or question. This act of objective truth and theory only means something when others are viewing it, whereas existential truth has meaning whether or not it is expressed to another. Along with this, Kierkegaard states that even religion, specifically Christianity, is useless in this existential search because merely putting forward these ideas or points of view for consideration by others doesn’t necessarily hold any true and deeper meaning.
To know oneself, one must first acquire knowledge and interpret that knowledge in a way that is true for them. You must view the knowledge through your own lens, rather than hunting out objective truth which is viewed and filtered through the lenses of others. This difference is huge when comparing objective and existential truth, and Kierkegaard’s descriptions of the two make it evident that objective truth may be important in terms of theory, but, at the end of the day, it becomes meaningless because it is not a purely individual journey or formation of thoughts and knowledge and this can hold one back from finding out what one lives and dies for.  One does not have to continuously search outwardly for validation in their thought processes and self-discovery, in fact, this may hinder their search for existential truth because your basis for your search for knowledge in this form must come from one’s own life experiences and ideas. Kierkegaard describes this feeling of clinging onto the familiar, in his case, this is his religion because in pursuit of truth one can feel lost and pathless and safety can be found in religion for him because in his life this was all he knew to be one hundred percent certain.
“It is this inward action of man, this God side of man, that matters, not a mass of information.” (Soren Kierkegaard, 1 August 1835) Kierkegaard again highlights the distinction between objective and existential truth in the comparison of information and knowledge. Information is not valuable but knowledge can take one far, and one must again look inward for this knowledge otherwise, one is simply left with a mass of information with no meaning. Kierkegaard also highlights the importance of the realization that drinking and indulging and enjoying life’s fruits can leave you just as empty and lost as if you were doing nothing at all. Life must be enjoyed but that enjoyment, and “letting go” may not carry you on into a deeper realization of what you find to be true about the world. This act of indulgence may hinder you in that you cannot attempt to make sense of the world from an existential or objective standpoint until you know yourself fully. This self-discovery can only be found within.
“I shall now try to look calmly at myself and begin to act inwardly; for only this way will I be able... to call myself ‘I’ in a profounder sense.”(Soren Kierkegaard, 1 August 1835) Kierkegaard finally expresses his realizations that people around him did not offer him much to gain or lose in terms of true knowledge. He realizes that in an existential search, other people have little influence on the formation of his beliefs and person, and these people have been able to only add onto his life in an objective manner, providing him with a vast wealth of information but not knowledge. Inwardness is the most important aspect of an existential search, and Kierkegaard makes the decision to fully commit to this search which he describes as a difficult decision with irreversible consequences.
Kierkegaard’s ideas centered around existential and objective truth will be interpreted differently by each and every person who chooses to inform themselves about them. Throughout my education, I have noticed a strong emphasis in the teaching I received, focusing on finding something that you care about within the confines of finding a socially acceptable job and earning money in the future. This focus is information and outwardly based, leaving little room for self-discovery beyond the confines of what others believe to be true. I have found myself constantly struggling internally because what I have always believed to be true is similar to Kierkegaard’s thoughts about objective and existential truth, looking outward in your journey of self-discovery will never get you anywhere. My whole life I have thrown myself into a plethora of different activities, pursuits of art, friendships, etc. all in the pursuit of discovering something that I truly care about, something that I can confidently and assertively say I love and am passionate about. Time and time again, I have found myself feeling lost in one form or another within these pursuits, feeling out of place and confused because at the start of each one of these endeavors I always seem to feel as though I’ve found myself only to realize as time goes on that I have not done so.  Yet, we are taught from an early age that there are a set of guidelines that must be followed to find happiness, one must pursue an education, dedicate themselves to a specific set of subjects, then move onto university to secure a socially acceptable job with a university degree. One must pursue a family and a life partner and save for retirement and once retired live peacefully until one’s death. This idea of a “full life” as put forward by society is inherently objective and something I have always found to be harmful to a personal discovery of what they truly want, need, and aspire to be in life. I think that Kierkegaard’s ideas should be taken more seriously within our systems of education and society because if we all looked a little more inward and discovered what makes us each individual and valuable to ourselves in our own eyes, we would all contribute vastly more meaningful things to our world and improve our overall happiness and contentedness with oneself.
This realization that one cannot follow the path of another to existential truth is one that I have also found hard to accept. As humans, we all want to fit in somewhere, and that often means following along with those who we look up to and aspire to be like. Breaking off on one’s own in this pursuit is difficult especially when individuality in this form is harder to see when one is so used to viewing the world from an objective standpoint. The feeling of breaking away from the objective information we are fed with from a young age can manifest itself in at least for me, feelings of low self-esteem, low self with and loneliness; but all of these things must be felt first for one to expand ones thinking and turn these negatives into positive self-discovery. I think that Kierkegaard’s description of this realization as “crossing the Rubicon,” couldn’t ring more true. I never realized there was a word or idea that could describe my own burning desire to find passion and meaning in all that I do, no matter how small the pursuit, but the realization that this is not a journey only I have ever attempted to go on is comforting and affirming. I think that sharing one’s thoughts and ideas continuously with those around us with the intention not to become more like them but more like oneself is something to be encouraged. It is important to remind oneself of one’s individuality, and that is okay to push against these boxes we are constantly being pushed in.

i feel like sherry and bilal have different issues. sherry's not outright terrible but he doesn't bring anything particularly unique to the table, so he ends up appearing lackluster against the male leads he co-stars with, be it fawad, adeel, bilal abbas. bilal in comparison reminds me of yoona. someone who's so content to allow themselves to be typecasted when it comes to roles bc then at least the roles are coming in, that they never really allow themselves to grow. yoona's been acting for a long time but i wasn't really compelled by one of her performances until 2018 bc the role demanded something different of her. bilal needs to actively go out of the box and push to do something where it isn't simply his job to be the obedient first born and then maybe he'll develop (and i say this while admitting his performance in yunhi was sweet! but i think that credit is largely owed to the production on the drama and ehteshamuddin's direction more than anything else)
yeah, when you put Sherry next to better actors it's hard for him to particularly shine. but that doesn't mean when he has the center stage in projects he's solo leading that he doesn't try to bring something to the table. both PHL and PSM, two projects that favored his characters the most, had him deliver various shades of his characters and to his credit he tried his BEST to bring variation to them. could he have done a better job (or could a better actor performed the characters better)? heck yeah. but i personally at least wasn't put off by his performances because of how monotonous he was where I couldn't different his one emotion from the other.
which isn't something I can say of Topi. the man doesn't even TRY! he literally just stands there 🙍🏼‍♂️. I remember how fucking awful he was in Janaan especially next to Ali Rehman who brought such life to the screen. Topi thinks a slight tilt up of the lips is romance and the furrowing of the brow shows intensity and baqi full range of human emotion ka kyaaa hi karna hai woh toh 😐 hi dikha sakte hain cuz serious character. like??? any sweetness that Dawood had was solely because the character was written so wonderfully and written particularly to match what 1 strength that Topi has that is his seriously blank face. this very same character in the hands of someone capable of bringing even 10% nuance to the screen with their character would've made both the character and the story of Kim&Dawood much more engaging and memorable. the fact that Topi himself wasn't interested in exploring the character more (Maya admitted to him being so lazy with remembering his dialogues that he shortened monologues to just a few lines and had to be forced to spend time on them because the dialogues were where the magic was happening) just makes me loathe him that much more as an actor. like what even are you doing here?! who brought you here?! HOW DO YOU KEEP GETTING PROJECTS????? i really really REALLY do not want to see any more of him and it's my tragedy that i will be, yet again, subjected to his blank face in the future!!
funny you should bring up Yoona because she has never managed to impress me either. i wouldn't call her awful, there are far worse idol-turned-actors than her in the market, but she has never made mark as well. but i admit i haven't seen her movies and just a few roles she's done in dramas. maybe she is better on the big screen but on TV Yoona's presence or absence makes no difference.

PHL / A/Bound

A/Bound May 20 - June 17, 2023 Reception June 8th, 2023, 6-9 pm
Tiger Strikes Asteroid Philadelphia is pleased to announce the exhibition A/Bound, curated by Eva Moreno and Duwenavue Santé Johnson.
A/Bound focuses on the theme of transformation, legacy, and cross-generational relationship, through natural laws, which is brought into space using selected works by Duwenavue Santé Johnson, Kim Miskowicz, Omi Tanaka, Joseph Carrillo, George Shongutsie, and Chris Donnelly.
The collection of works offers a fresh perspective that speaks to our collective and individual experiences. It provides an interesting view of the human being as an integral part of an ecosystem, in a curious juxtaposition between the transition of the four seasons following each other in the year and the different stages of human development.
We are creating spaces relative to us, how we move, think, and be. A goal of space should "consider" the greater good for the majority of movements that create value with a strong hope that ecologically all of the movement supports a sort of harmony and balance to foster a regenerative environment.
The Poet's "Testament"
I wrap the sky around myself to keep away the cold and eat starlight late at night to take the place of rich Dew drops scatter below the sky for me to find and drink. and out my poems flow to greet the morn, to last her age. My heart, sacrificed to its grave gains unworldly powers; the spirit flies into lands of dreams the far side of the sky. It seeks divinity in Heaven and brings it back to earth to soothe the sand and grass, bringing happiness, bringing peace. My purpose in composing poems is to salvage the soul.
- Angkarn Kalayanapong (Thai), translated by Allan Ginsberg
A connective mixture of fine arts and craftsmanship from textile arts in the form of beadwork, and hand embroidery, while collages, phytograms, and paintings create visual terrains. Digital formats along with analog photography play a significant role in creating the movement of this exhibition.
The artists represented all share a unique type of systematic molding from forced state relocation, survival through academic pathways, and carrying on one's culture by leaving the familiar.  Each one of the artists has gone through multiple ebbs and flows,  maintaining a practice of resilience, and using creative methods to sustain their lifelong art practice.  Crossing paths during the height of the tides of gentrification in the California Bay Area, not cowering to fear, risk, and uncertainty while taking unexplored roads. This experience has led to certain shared values, notably, sharing learned ideas to help build, create, and explore all the while, understanding that nature is fragile and must be conserved and respected to allow for future generations of all life.

Dublin, Ireland: I visited, had tons of craic, and immense fun – I’m addicted.
As with most times I travel, I make sure to take advantage of national airlines and their home hub cities. My flight was destined for Amsterdam, Holland but I wished to visit Ireland on my way.  So I decided to fly Aer Lingus from PHL to AMS, knowing they would first fly to Dublin for a stopover, require a plane swap, and then depart to mainland Europe. Well, one can choose to continue on at the stopover city, paying only country taxes to exit airport; thus getting two trips in one. Each country has a limit as to how many days you can remain there, and so it pays to check first.  I had not arrived in Ireland yet and could already tell this country was going to be imbued with enjoyment. The flight was filled with craic.
Dublin was already having an effect on me and I had not even departed the airport. The feeling in the air was quaint and charming, just like the Irish people.  There is no subway or underground transportation system in Dublin, so coach is the best option for public transport. Uber is not allowed to operate in Ireland. The best bus service, Airlink, an express coach with the fewest stops, departs the airport every 15-20 minutes – so it is never a long wait to get to center of town. They are handicap accessible. The buses end up at Busaras Central Station before heading off to O’Connell Street in city centre, finally ending up at Heuston, one of Dublin’s main train stations.  I opted for a taxi. It was time to get my green groove on!
The distance from the airport to my hotel, located in Smithfield section, was approximately 12km. The bus fare was 7 Euro single, 12 Euro return – and a taxi, door-to-door, was between 25-30 Euro. Every taxi company is metered by law but also has other differences that can affect each individual fare. Do your homework beforehand. Being new to this city I opted to take a taxi ride, knowing this would also afford me a common gem of past globetrotting journeys: no one knows a city and its secrets better than taxi drivers. They tend to be a salty group; replete with enough stories to turns one’s head, in or out. As it would happen with my luck, my driver, Seammus McCafferty, was of the extremely colorful sort.
Taxi service paid, his business card with cellular phone contact in hand, convenient for future excitement and adventure reference, it was time to see what another Generator Hostel and new city had in store for me to boot.  As humans we tend to be creatures of habit – as well, having traveled all over the planet – I have learned a few tricks here or there. One invaluable lesson for travel and also life: When you find something that works, do not make any unnecessary changes – no need to reinvent the wheel. I had stayed at many Generator Hostels throughout Europe in the past and they always served me and my injury needs adequately.  The bar was set high for this location (pun intended).
Upon entering the hostel I was taken aback by how stylish it was. It looked very elegantly fashionable, very chic – my kind of place. There was a refined unassuming contemporary counter for check-in, plush chairs abound to relax and view any street walkers-by, with an eclectic and trendy colorful bar and restaurant in the background, with a Jameson bottle chandelier as the centerpiece. To the far right corner, with a clear view of the drunken shenanigans taking place at the bar, sat a beautiful pool table. To the back left was a veranda with sitting area for live entertainment and additional tables for more hobnobbing with newly made friends. The hostel was clearly setup to induce traveler interaction.
After getting my room sussed out, I decided to explore the hostel further.  I reserved a dormitory style room that slept twelve, although when I arrived I only saw four other bodies – all fast asleep at 15:00. I had a short distance to wheel over thick carpet but once out of my floor wing the floors were smooth. There was a dedicated handicapped toilet and sink room, but most times it was occupied by someone too lazy to walk the extra two meters to the common room. The showers were in a separate space. Both areas were very large, with enough sinks and showers to clean a small army. There was also a dedicated shower stall for those needing assistance, including a bench and low water controls. Splendid!
It was time for an obligatory pint of Guinness.  As the saying goes, when in Rome…. I headed to the bar and was immediately met with a set of stairs.  Two meters to the left was a dedicated lift to bring me down one level. I picked a table, ordered a pint, and within minutes was talking with some fellow voyagers. Sean Kennedy from Ottawa, Canada was the first, followed by Erika from Rotterdam, Holland, and then came Jacob from Perth, Australia.  Did I say just one Guinness? Oops, a Catholic white lie. A few beers later, minding our “Ps” and “Qs,” the group comfortable with one another, travel stories and laughter only increased round after round. We all decided to meet for breakfast the next morning.
For some odd reason no one made it to breakfast the next morning – must have been the Dubliner air. I enjoyed a delicious traditional Irish breakfast: eggs, bacon, mushrooms, baked beans and grilled tomatoes. Stomach overly filled, I decided to venture out and take my chances seeing the city on one of the many hop-on-hop-off bus tours. I chose the red line as they had a pickup only 30 meters from the hostel entrance. The bus pulled up, a foldable pull-out ramp appeared, I rolled on, paid my 20 Euro fare (unlimited rides for 48 hours), and off we went. Though it is a great bargain, as you get to see most the city’s best sites, it is only for the strong and fit – even with breaks on, the chair was thrown all over.
Being an exceptionally seasoned world traveler, having lived all over the planet for almost a decade of my life, international travel mostly comes easily to me – even the constant hiccups and curveballs the world throws my way are met head-on, and overcome with grace and laughter. No doubt travelling in a wheelchair is a much different experience, though mostly logistical, hence my injured traveler blog. But there is another element to what I do, one that requires that my wheelchair and its parts are all in the best possible working order. I am forever indebted to the people at NuMotion Mobility Company, especially Gary Gilberti and his amazing crew at my local office, including Christie, Jim and John.
By the time I returned to the hostel, sea-sick and bruised, the rest of the crew was already at the bar, and many pints ahead of me. By this juncture, a French doctor, Pierre, and Wouter, a quiet and witty Dutchman, had joined the bouquet – making for quite the assorted international motley bunch.  We decided to go out for dinner that evening – Kennedy had heard the food at Kingfisher’s was the best in town.  It was agreed the four of us would meet at 19:00 and taxi to O’Connell section of town. All taxi drivers, with one honorable mention later, were more than happy to get out and assist with the wheelchair breakdown and storage. I had the classic dish: fish-n-chips. It was amazing. Legendary!
By this time I had already made friends with the bartender, Milo, from Greenland – a country of 56,170 people – a fjord-lined Danish territory.  All the staff was very friendly.  As stated in my book, Unbreakable Mind, one must participate in life by Doing The Dirty Dishes: If meeting new friends or socializing with strangers is an issue, go where others are seeking the same: new friends and experiences. You are guaranteed both if you stay at a hostel.  I choose to stay at Generator Hostels when in Europe because even though they are the cost of a cheap hotel, they have better clientele. I have never once placed a lock on my storage bin. If in need of purple underwear – please, by all means!
The next few days friends went various directions and so I decided to venture out into the city where ‘streets have names’ alone.  The walkways and sidewalks upon first inspection looked smooth, until in the chair wheeling around town – they surely gave my kidneys a workout.  There are curb ramps but definitely careful attention to detail must be paid if one wants to stay in the chair. Drivers are not so quick to slam on their brakes for you when crossing the road. Also, Luas, the tram/light rail system, which began operating in 2004, extends throughout the city with Red and Green lines, thus providing many places for your caster wheels to get stuck, or dumped by not wheeling over the bumps properly.
That next morning I was up early so I could visit St. Stephens Green, a historic park and great inner-city escape with 15 statues and memorials of famous figures and events, a favorite of James Joyce. Soon after, I found myself at the Guinness Storehouse, Ireland’s most famous beer, with a guided tour that ended on a rooftop bar with free tastings. Best to reserve a ticket online as the queue can be a bit long. Just around the corner from the St. James Gate Brewery is the 200 year old Jameson Distillery Bow Street, the world renowned home to Irish Whiskey – even though Jameson was in fact a Scottish lawyer. Needless to say after such a day, finding stable ground key – the chair was wobbly for some odd reason.
The following day I decided to bugger off to Dublin Castle and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, just a short distance from Smithfield, the district where my hostel was located. The castle, former seat of the British government’s administration in Ireland, played a lead role in the Easter Rising of 1916.  It helped set the stage for the Irish War of Independence, fought from 1919 to 1921, between the Irish Republican Army and British forces. It had a small incline and some cobblestones about but was surprisingly easy to navigate in a wheelchair. The Cathedral’s layout was expansive, including long verdant lawns and brick pavers, thus making for a smooth visit. Both buildings, heavily steeped in history, will leave you in awe.
My second to final day a few of us decided to visit the Dublin Zoo.  Kennedy and Wouter rounded out a threesome – our troop was complete. Before we even had a chance to observe the local animals, we had one of own for a taxi driver. We had inadvertently stepped into the wrong taxi and the driver, quite rattled and angry, Patrick Donegal, of Belfast, continued slagging us incessantly. He kept repeating in a deep Ulster accent, “You don’t understand!” It made for some fun local taking the piss before we were on our way to be accosted by apes and monkeys – two mainstays of the zoo, located in Phoenix Park, with 707 hectares of land, making it one of Europe’s largest parks. It was a roaring day. Classic!
My last night in Dublin I decided to head out to the famous party zone of Dublin’s Temple Bar District with some of my new friends. We all had flights out of Ireland the next day. They all headed home and were asleep by midnight. But to me, that is just when the rapture began.  Four hours later, a few locally sourced prescribed pints of Guinness down the gullet, it was time to find my way home to sleep before catching my 07:00 flight. Dublin is so rich in history, cultural delight and overall fun, with so much to see and on such a short visit, no doubt I will return to the Emerald Isle for another dose of some additional Ol, Craic Agus Ceol. You left me wanting more; I shall return, old friend.  Slán leat – Céad mile fáilte!

Band Gap In Physics (PDF Provided In PhL Physics Library)
Band Gap In Physics
In the realm of solid-state physics, the concept of a band gap plays a pivotal role in elucidating the behavior of materials, particularly semiconductors and insulators. The band gap is a fundamental characteristic that defines the electrical properties of these materials, influencing their conductivity, optical properties and potential applications in electronic devices. In this article, we delve into the intricate nature of band gaps, exploring their significance, origins and implications in various fields of science and technology.
Definition & Significance Of Band Gap
At its essence, a band gap refers to the energy range in a material where no electron states are permitted. In simpler terms, it represents the energy difference between the highest energy level of the valence band (the band occupied by electrons in their ground state) and the lowest energy level of the conduction band (the band above the valence band where electrons can move freely). This energy differential is crucial as it dictates the material’s behavior concerning electrical conductivity and optical properties.
Understanding the band gap is essential because it categorizes materials into three main classes based on their electronic properties :
1. Conductors : Materials with overlapping valence and conduction bands, allowing electrons to move freely. Metals fall into this category, exhibiting high conductivity due to the absence of a band gap.
2. Semiconductors : Materials with a small but finite band gap, which electrons can overcome under certain conditions, such as increased temperature or applied voltage. Semiconductors possess intermediate conductivity and find extensive use in electronic devices like transistors and diodes.
3. Insulators : Materials with a large band gap, requiring a significant amount of energy to promote electrons from the valence band to the conduction band. Insulators exhibit minimal conductivity under normal conditions, making them suitable for applications where electrical insulation is crucial.
Origins Of Band Gap
The origin of the band gap stems from the quantum mechanical behavior of electrons within a crystalline lattice structure. In a solid material, atoms are arranged in a periodic fashion, forming a lattice. When electrons interact with this lattice, they experience a periodic potential energy landscape, leading to the formation of energy bands.
The valence band represents the highest energy level at which electrons can exist at absolute zero temperature, and it is predominantly composed of the atomic orbitals of the constituent atoms. Above the valence band lies the conduction band, which is separated by the band gap. Electrons in the conduction band are delocalized and can move freely throughout the material, contributing to its electrical conductivity.
The size of the band gap depends on various factors, including the atomic structure, bonding characteristics and crystal symmetry of the material. For instance, materials with strong covalent bonds, such as diamond, exhibit large band gaps, whereas those with weaker bonds, like metals, have smaller or no band gaps.
Influence On Electrical & Optical Properties
The band gap profoundly influences the electrical and optical behavior of materials :
Electrical Conductivity : Materials with a narrow band gap (semiconductors) can conduct electricity when external factors, such as temperature or voltage, provide enough energy to promote electrons across the gap. Conversely, materials with a wide band gap (insulators) have minimal conductivity under normal conditions.
Optical Properties : The band gap dictates the absorption and emission of light in a material. Photons with energy less than the band gap cannot excite electrons across the gap, resulting in transparency or minimal absorption (for insulators). Conversely, photons with energy greater than the band gap can promote electrons to the conduction band, leading to absorption and potentially emission of light.
Band Gap : Applications & Future Perspectives
The understanding and manipulation of band gaps have paved the way for numerous technological advancements and applications :
Semiconductor Devices : The design and fabrication of semiconductor devices, such as transistors, diodes and integrated circuits, rely heavily on the precise control of band gaps.
Optoelectronics : Band gap engineering is crucial in the development of optoelectronic devices like light-emitting diodes (LEDs), solar cells and photodetectors.
Materials Science : Researchers continue to explore novel materials with tailored band gaps for specific applications, including energy harvesting, quantum computing and photonics.
In conclusion, the concept of band gap is a cornerstone in understanding the electronic and optical properties of materials. Its profound influence spans various scientific disciplines and technological domains, shaping our modern world and driving innovation in countless applications.
Through ongoing research and exploration, scientists and engineers strive to unravel the complexities of band gaps further, unlocking new possibilities for materials design, device optimization and technological breakthroughs. As we delve deeper into the realm of solid-state physics, the elucidation of band gap phenomena promises to continue fueling advancements that redefine the boundaries of science and technology.

Ok I’ll bite. Why don’t you like Bilal’s pairing with Maya? I’m not crazy about it, either, but amongst the men in the industry, he’s def not the worst. I prefer Bilal and Maya as opposed to sherry and Maya because I genuinely don’t think sherry liked her and used her for her fame. Bilal on the other hand, while he’s not the most talented of stars, seems like he’s pretty into her and she seems happy with him.
Yunhi made me like the pair a little more, too. Note: just a little.
My dream pairing in real life would be maya and OKB but khair I let go of that dream around 2016.
see, I really do not care who Maya is with offscreen. it's just that her offscreen relationships ALWAYS reflect her onscreen work. all my best wishes to Maya if Bilal has made her happy irl. that's what she deserves. she deserves a loving partner, everyone does! but you said it yourself - her chemistry with Bilal is NOT the best. i have SEEN Maya create intense magic (onscreen) with men for years. OsMaya might be her longest lasting pairing but from the start..from Faizan Khwaja to now Talha Chahour..Maya has created literal SPARKS when paired romantically with any man. with Bilal it's obvious that the chemistry is NOT as natural and as magical as the ones she has had with other men. yea the chemistry is THERE but that's cuz she's capable of creating chemistry with a tree if she has to. but that doesn't mean we HAVE to watch her be with a tree! *I* want her working with actors that bring with them a certain level of talent and intensity that compliments the fire that SHE is capable of creating. and i am NOT getting it. and i WILL not get it cuz hey..Maya just HAS to make her onscreen work revolve around her offscreen life.
Maya and Sherry..I don't want to get into the conspiracy theories around them (and there are a lot). whatever it was between them offscreen..can anyone deny that IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA the two did not make a truly spectacular looking couple?? the entire course of PHL promotions..yeah whatever was their ending but bruh they SERVED. their body language was so in tune with each other. the intimacy was clear. even if Sherry "used" her there's no denying that he was proper into her for that time being. it was just a case of two stunning people having a short lived affair that they didn't try to hide from anyone. me as an audience who wants to be entertained was ENTERTAINED. and i am NO LONGER ENTERTAINED. so i have all the right to complain.
I want Maya to branch out and do a variety of work with a bunch of different people! idk why i am misunderstood to be someone who only wants Maya to work with 1-2 people. NO! I want her to have a proper project with someone like Bilal Abbas and Ahad Raza Mir and want to see her more with Wahaj after their brilliance that we got TOO LITTLE OF in JBG; she deserves to explore her chemistry more with Talha, I want her to manage the miracle and work with Fawad Khan! I want her with Hamza again! I want her with Ahmed Ali Akbar too! oh god imagine her with Farhan Saeed!! i want her to be directed by Mehreen again! I want her to make efforts to collaborate with Haissam AGAIN. i want her to make the connections and be in a Kashif Nisar drama. I want her doing bigger and more mainstream projects. I want her to do a Ramazan play! something that gets the numbers and ratings so she can remind the awaam that she used to be their darling once upon a time. I WANT HER TO DO ALL THAT! I WANT HER TO DO MORE THAN WHAT SHE DOES! AND SHE WON'T! SHE CAN'T! BECAUSE SHE'S STUCK WITH THIS *ONE* PERSON WITH WHOM HER ONSCREEN WORK IS *NOT* THE BEST!!! we all know after Yunhi she's gonna do the film with lo..who else but BA! and directed by who else but M.Ehteshammudin! AND THAT WILL AGAIN TAKE MONTHS OR YEARS. WHAT AM I EVEN GETTING FROM HER!??!?
I repeat..IT IS NOT ABOUT WHO SHE'S WITH IN REAL LIFE! I DON'T FUCK WITH REAL PERSON SHIPPING. I AM FOREMOST AN AUDIENCE CRAVING FOR ENTERTAINMENT. I AM A FAN WHO PRIORITIZES SEEING HER FAV DO DIVERSE KIND OF WORK! I AM A STAN WHO WANTS TO WITNESS HER FAV BE PRAISED FOR THE *WORK* SHE DOES BECAUSE I KNOW SHE'S CAPABLE OF THAT. AND INSTEAD I GET TO WATCH HER WASTE HER ALREADY LIMITED TIME USING HER PLATFORM AND HER CONNECTIONS AND FAME AND HER STATURE IN THE INDUSTRY THAT SHE HAS WORKED SO DAMN HARD FOR TO PROMOTE HER WHOEVER-HER-CURRENT-BEAU-IS WHATEVER SHE CHANCE SHE GETS. AND I CAN'T EVEN COMPLAIN ABOUT IT!? be fr!!!
god..it's really not about any shipping war. it's simply just how she SHRINKS herself to fit herself with just one person. i know i KNOW that's who she has always been. past ceases to matter to her in the present. she's a heartbreaker like that i know. but good god..just the very thought that it's someone as utterly boring and talentless as Topi that's her last stop breaks my heart and infuriates me in a million ways. and TRY as i may i cannot make my peace with.
bottom line : i WANT to be crazy about a Maya pairing again. that AIN'T EVER HAPPENING WITH TOPI. the only way of that happening her is to detach herself. which knowing her is impossible. AND WOW I AM MAD AGAIN.
