can't sleep so I'm thinking of all the analysis I want to write. anyway, nearly a month after reading it, I'm still thinking about Exquisite Corpse. I wanna write a little essay on Andrew and Jay as metaphors for the physical (AIDS) and societal (homophobia, the Reagan/Thatcher admins, racism) issues that murdered young gay men. like. Obviously they are based on serial killers (Dahmer and Nielsen respectively) but I think it's also very interesting to examine them as the Powers That Be made manifest. I know AIDS is a prominent part of the novel already -- but Andrew and Jay are like the disease: infecting, maiming, and ultimately killing young queer men. Eating those young men alive literally and metaphorically.
anyway now that I've written this down I'm gonna try and sleep again. gn 💤

Having to take breaks while reading “Fluids” because it’s so intense. The book is everything I had hoped for. And man, is it a lot. I’m reading “Girl Flesh” right after I finish this.

the other day in the walmart i saw that they had put the book 'tender is the flesh' by agustina bazterrica in the "romance" (porn, basically) section and a little part of me died, because that is NOT where that goes 😭

this morning i banged out this unsolicited off the dome shortlist of splatterpunk/transgressive/extreme horror fiction that i actually think is good for someone on twitter, thought i might as well share it here, too. sorry about the notes screenshot format! obviously, as all works described fall in the splatterpunk genre, they are very gory, they contain intentionally disturbing sexual content and themes of interpersonal violence/abuse, and they are not meant for readers under 18
ok disclaimer over go have fun
caveat that Brite's work contains some Awkward/Clueless "I'm Trying To Be Real And Inclusive!" Early 90s Racism (you know what I mean, right? Unfortunate phonetic accents, descriptions of attractive Asian-Americans as "exotic," that sort of thing)
also I completely FORGOT to recommend
Frog K (on tumblr as @play-now-my-lord). Would she describe her fiction as falling into this genre? Probably not. But it's really got that punk rock DIY energy. Almost bizarro, leans hard into the humorous, absurd side of shock and horror.
The Wasp Factory, by Iain Banks. Technically a work of "literary fiction," this is also hella Gothic, hella gross, very invested in shocking the reader, and, in a refreshing twist on standard 80s horror tropes, it's super weird and offensive and frankly kind of fetishistic about a trans man instead of a trans woman. Finally, exploitation kitsch for the fellas! This novel was the source of some imagery that haunted my adolescence. Five thumbs up!

Watching so much fucked up shit/movies from a young age has really made me want to include that kinda stuff in my own writing, but I don’t cause I feel gross but I’m honestly at my breaking point and I’m considering writing a new story with the mindset of “what can’t I do?”

Shadow of Death
Killian wasn't always this way; he was caring & with innocence. Over the years he was broken down & hurt slowly turned to rage...
because pain changes people...and the monster won. In the end, Killian chose to become irredeemable.
A Novel:
Shadow of Death [the life & & death of Killian Lynch]
•coming December 8th, 2025•
