Ontario has reached a funding agreement with optometrists that increases some payments to them, but reduces some coverage for patients, including less frequent general eye exams for seniors.
Optometrists withdrew from performing provincially insured eye services from September to November 2021 amid a dispute over the amount they were being reimbursed.
The province’s health plan covers annual eye exams for residents aged 19 and under, 65 and older and people with specific health conditions. Optometrists said the province had been underfunding the OHIP-covered services, leaving them paying around 45 per cent out of pocket.
A statement Friday from Health Minister Sylvia Jones said optometrists have ratified a four-year funding agreement that includes an increase to payments for some OHIP-insured services and eye exams for social assistance recipients, but it didn’t detail amounts. [...]

Just to Know!
Millions around the world suffer from vision problems, with a significant portion in need of spectacles. However, access to eye care remains a challenge, particularly in low- and middle-income countries.
In response to this crisis, the 74th World Health Assembly, 2021 has embarked on an initiative called "Specs 2030" to provide integrated and people-centered eye care.
The World Health Organization (WHO) is set to launch the SPECS 2030.
The initiative's goal is to assist member states in addressing the unmet need for spectacles while ensuring the delivery of quality eye care.
It has the mission to support Member States with the achievement of the 74th World Health Assembly endorsed 2030 target on effective refractive error coverage.
The initiative calls for coordinated global action amongst all stakeholders across 5 strategic pillars, in line with the letters of SPECS, to address the key challenges to improving refractive error coverage.

This is your reminder to take care of your eyes. They are so important and made of muscles too, so we need to stretch them and relax them as our whole body to prevent strains. Remember the vagus nerve (it can help us relax a bit our anxiety and ground) can be activated thanks to those exercises too (ofc it is connected with our throat muscles and the vocal cords so singing, humming and gargling are pretty useful as well).
Back to our eyes: it's useful to watch away from any type of screen for a while everytime you can (it should be 15 mins every hour or so but... well at least do that sometimes), and even more, remember to blink! When we are focused on the screen we forget we need to blink our eyes, but that makes it hard for them to get lubricated correctly and therefore you can feel them hurt or burn when they get tired after some time. Use eye drops lubricant or at least, go gently pass some fresh wateron your closed eyes every now and then. And wear your glasses, if you have to (even if they are just to look at the screen)! I'm sure you look hotter with them on. ;)
Some exercises: Close your eyes and reopen them, squeezing them tight. You can add a gentle pressure on your closed eyes by putting your palms on them for 30 sec. /1 min. (helps lubricating). Rotate your eyes clockwise slowly for 1-2 min (blink at the end) and then do the same anticlokwise (blink again). Look straight in front of you. Without moving your head but only your eyes: look at your right and hold for a few sec, then look at your left and hold a few sec, then look up high and hold a few sec, look down low and hold a few sec. You can add diagonals as well. Look at the tip of your nose for a few sec then gently close your eyes, squeeze and reopen them a few times.
Specifc for your vagus nerve: sit comfortably and take a pen around 10-15 cm away from your face. Look at it with your eyes for around 20 sec. and then move your focus further away for other 20 sec. Try around 4 times and then gently relax your eyes.

Found some nice android phone apps I'd like to share today. The first one is "Darker (Screen Filter)" which lets you darken the screen by simply tapping the apps icon. I am glad I found this as I am tired of being painfully blinded by my phone every time I wake up in the morning and check it. Even in dark mode I'd get blinded by things like the text editor, which is always a blinding white color.
And this one is wallpaper changer. I was trying for a while to find a simple program that would just use the collection of images I've saved to a folder on my phone as wallpapers and swap them every day, just like the setup I have on my computer. After several disappointing apps that were overly complicated and would either force me to use online crap or make adding my own wallpapers very tedious, I finally found this one and it seems to do just what I wanted. :) I am not sure if I can get it to change the backgrounds for both the lock screen and home wallpaper, but at-least it changes one of them.

Uveitis Symptoms Causes & Treatment
Uveitis, also known as middle layer inflammation, is a condition in which the eye develops. The iris, the ciliary body, and the choroid make up this structure. They control light penetration, produce aqueous hormone (fluid filling up front parts), and supply blood and oxygen to the retina.
Uveitis may be caused by infection, an autoimmune disorder, or idiopathic (of unknown origin). Uveitis can cause eye pain, blurred vision and sensitivity to light. Uveitis can be treated with steroid eye drops/injections, oral medications, or surgery in the most severe cases.
If you suspect you might have uveitis, it is important to seek immediate medical attention. Untreated, it can lead to vision loss and glaucoma.
Tumblr media
What are the symptoms of Uveitis?

Floaters are small spots or specks that appear to float in your field of vision.
Vision loss or decreased vision
Headaches
Tearing or watering down the eyes
Eye irritation or discomfort
Uveitis can present in various stages. Some people may not have symptoms at all, and some inflammation may only be diagnosed during routine eye exams. Consult an eye doctor if you have any of these symptoms, or have concerns about your eyes health.
What is the treatment for Uveitis?
The treatment of uveitis depends on the severity, location and cause. The goal of treatment is to reduce inflammation, alleviate symptoms, prevent complications, and preserve vision. The following are common treatments for uveitis:
Uveitis must be treated immediately to prevent complications and maintain vision. It is recommended that you have regular follow-up visits with your eye doctor to monitor the condition, adjust treatment, and report any changes.

If anyone in the USA wants glasses but doesn't really have glasses money, I suggest going to America's Best and asking to look at the Hot Buys.
Hot Buys are what we call the marked down glasses, they're marked down bc that style isn't being made anymore. Styles may vary but you can check various locations and both mens and womens styles. You'll often find frames for 29.99 but make sure you read the tag. The original price of the frame and who makes it determines how much we're allowed to mark down, it may be 29 may be 69. READ THE TAG.
Tumblr media
If your prescription is under a +/- 2.00, you'll be fine getting plastic lenses, and it'll automatically add a promotion if you get 2 frames (it'll come out to 49.99). Again, this is for plastic uncoated lenses individually priced 29.99. If you're prescription is high or you mind using thick lenses, you can ask to get an estimate and see what is most convenient for you.

Here are the buy 2 promotions we have with different frame price points.
