PSA: Solar Eclipse tomorrow
Eclipse glasses need to meet ISO 12312-2 international standard. If you are a welder or have welding equipment the hood must be Shade 12 or higher!!!!
Most general welders equipment from a hardware store is less than Shade 12.
Please take care tomorrow, I'd like you to be able to see me the next time I see you in my office.
Solar burns to the macula cannot be repaired. The inflammation can be controlled but the scars are permanent.
If you don't have the right protection then... don't look up.

Yo i suggest putting “eyestrain” in your tags- certain people with epilepsy / photosensitivity or overall sensitivity TO these colours. I stumbled upon your account randomly and even then it was a little overstimulating for me- cannot imagine someone with photosensitivity. Especially ones with red, given the wavelength shape. But all of them are considerably harmful and cause physical pain. I understand you are named “Highly-Saturated-Painter” but sometimes given the feeds, it can pop up randomly on other peoples’ feeds. I highly suggest going to check out PhotosensitiveDespair (think that’s their user) they are run by a bunch of folk who have conditions mentioned above. I’m not affiliated with them, i just find their content extremely educational. Adding the eyestrain tag, allows for people to have blocked the tag to avoid the content to avoid the possible harm / death that can be caused by photosensitivity but mainly epilepsy. Thank you.
Sincerely, A disabled person <3
oh sorry

Wonderful Things That May or May Not Be Wonderful!!! So, how about that eclipse? Sure was neat. Eclipses occur when the sun, moon and Earth neatly align with the effect differing based on the order they line up in. Lunar eclipses happen when Earth blocks the sun’s refracted light which results in parts of the moon disappearing into the dark or sometimes, the moon appearing orange or blood red. Solar eclipses, like the one that happened yesterday, have the moon getting in the way of the sun’s rays which casts a large black dot on that bright ball in the sky causing their own brand of beautiful imagery. The latter is a lot rarer than the former but the sight of any kind of eclipse is a wonderful thing and should be treasured. P.S. Make sure to have proper eye protection if you ever have the chance to see another solar eclipse. After all, if you damage your eyes, you may not be able to see any more eclipses.

A reminder to not look at the sun directly during the eclipse! (Only exception is if your in the path of totality, and even then, only for about 5 minutes)
Lots of places are giving out certified eclipse glasses, or you can make a pinhole projector (i did that during the 2017 eclipse and it was pretty cool!)
Ordinary sunglasses ARE NOT suitable for an eclipse
and whatever you do, do not look at it through a telescope
please protect your eyes!!!!!!!

July 2023: UV Safety Month - UV Safety Tips for Eyes
July 2023: UV Safety Month
Tumblr media
UV (ultraviolet) rays emitted by the sun can be harmful to our eyes and prolonged exposure without proper protection can lead to various eye conditions. Some of these eye conditions can even lead to permanent vision damage. Therefore, it is crucial to adopt UV safety measures to safeguard our eyes to maintain long-term ocular health. Here are some essential UV safety tips for eyes:
1. Wear sunglasses: Choose sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays. Look for labels indicating UV protection and opt for large, wrap-around frames to shield your eyes from direct sunlight coming in from the sides.
2. Broad-brimmed hat: Pair your sunglasses with a wide-brimmed hat for added protection. This will not only protect your eyes but also shield your face and neck from the sun's harmful rays.
3. Avoid peak hours: UV radiation is strongest between 10 am and 4 pm. If possible, limit your outdoor activities during these hours, especially on bright, sunny days.
4. Photochromic lenses: If you require prescription eyeglasses, consider getting photochromic lenses that are coated with a special chemical that defends your eyes against the sun’s harmful rays.
5. Use UV-blocking contact lenses: If you wear contact lenses, opt for those that provide UV protection to ensure your eye is shielded from UV radiation.
6. Seek shade: When outdoors, try to stay in shaded areas to reduce direct exposure to UV rays, especially during peak hours.
7. Never look directly at the sun: Staring directly at the sun, even for a brief moment, can cause severe damage to the retina. This can lead to permanent vision loss or blindness.
8. Regular eye check-ups: Schedule regular eye examinations with an eye care specialist to monitor your eye health and catch any potential issues early on.
By incorporating these UV safety tips into your daily routine, you can significantly reduce the risk of eye problems caused by UV radiation. Protecting your eyes from the sun is not only vital for clear vision but also for preserving your ocular health in the long run.

Can Diabetes Affect Your Eyes?
When you have diabetes, you should schedule routine appointments with an eye doctor. Problems including blurry vision, cataracts, glaucoma, and retinopathy are brought on by high blood sugar. In actuality, diabetes is the main factor leading to blindness in those aged 20 to 74.
Cataracts
Your eye’s inherent natural lens enables it to see and focus on a picture, exactly like a camera. A cataract has developed when the lens becomes clouded, much like a dirty or smeared window. Although anybody can develop them, those with diabetes are more likely to do so early and for a longer period of time.
Your eye can’t focus properly when part of your lens is blurry. Your vision will suffer. Glare and blurred vision are symptoms.
A cataract must be removed surgically. The doctor inserts an artificial lens in lieu of the blurry one.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma, which can occur in a variety of ways or forms, is more common in people with diabetes.
When fluid cannot drain properly from your eye, pressure builds up inside of it. Vision alterations may result from this, in addition to nerve and blood vessel damage.
The most prevalent kind, open-angle glaucoma, is treatable with medication. They ease eye pressure, hasten drainage, and lessen the production of ocular fluid. (Your doctor will call this aqueous humor.)
Until it is further advanced and you have significant vision loss, this kind of glaucoma may not show any symptoms. During a yearly exam, your doctor can detect it sooner.

Essential Safety Gear: Shoes, Helmets, Gloves, Eye Protection
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Protective clothing for hands, eyes, head, respiratory system, feet, and body comes under personal protective equipment. Individuals wear this equipment to protect themselves from the risks of infection and injury, along with reducing exposure to physical, biological, and chemical hazards. Personal protective equipment acts as a barrier when administrative and engineering controls prove to be insufficient in eliminating and reducing risk.
Wearing these safety gear is a practice that ensures the safety & security of employees and visitors in the working environment. As safety is paramount in each business across every industry, using these appointments, along with assessments and inspections of the working spaces, is crucial to enhance the safety of employees from hazards and risks.
Let’s understand the importance of essential safety gear and its use in different industries.
Essential Safety Gear: Uses
When discussing the industrial sector, dressing your employees with the right protective equipment is extremely crucial for regulatory compliance and workplace safety, avoiding worker job site injury or sickness. In the absence of personal protective equipment for the workers, they even come under the risk of losing their lives. Hence, some of the major uses of safety gear, including shoes, helmets, gloves, and eye protection, are as follows:
Shoes
Safety shoes protect the workers from flying and falling heavy objects. As they work around several vehicles and machines, it is common for them to get injured from flying or falling objects. Hence, protective shoes help workers avoid crushing foot injuries.
A worker may step on sharp objects. Hence, protective shoes with thick materials and heavy-duty souls offer great protection by surrounding the foot.
Certain machinery that are sharp or might contain moving objects that can result in cutting hazards. Hence, protective shoes made with cut-resistant material protect workers who work in such industrial settings, and these shoes also support the ankles as they are water-repellent.
Helmets
Safety helmets are essential safety gear that are built to protect the heads of workers from multiple injuries that might occur at their workplace, such as collisions, falling objects, and other hazards. In industries such as manufacturing and mining, where head injuries might occur, wearing a safety helmet is both mandatory and crucial.
Safety helmets also offer additional features, such as enhancing visibility and comfort.
Different kinds of helmets are built for certain uses on the basis of the hazard type and work environment.
Gloves
Safety gloves designed for construction work offer high safety and protection to the workers by preventing or minimising cuts and punctures from wood splinters and nails.
Mechanic gloves offer enhanced sensitivity and flexibility while protecting against burns, sparks, and cuts.
Welding gloves can withstand intense heat and hence protect the workers working in high temperatures.
For safety from hazards and burns at laboratories, chemical-resistant gloves are crafted for technicians.
Eye Protection
Eye protection is crafted to reduce the glare effect, of course, from flashes of light or extremely bright work tasks.
Eye protection prevents irritants and allergens from entering the eyes of the workers.
Eye protection saves the eyes of the workers from harmful dust and other particles.
By wearing eye protection, workers also protect their eyes and the skin around them from chemical burns.
Essential Safety Gear: Importance
Safety gears are important in construction and building high-risk industries as they protect the health of the workers, improve their productivity, reduce liability and risk, and comply with workplace, health, and safety regulations. Some of the most important safety gear that workers must wear while working in industrial settings include shoes, helmets, gloves, and eye protection. The importance of these essential safety gears is listed below:
Shoes
Safety shoes are important for preventing injury to workers. These shoes provide protection from burns, cuts, punctures, and heavy impact. They also provide grip to the workers when walking or working on slippery surfaces, preventing false and shrubs, which might result in a more serious problem.
Helmets
Safety helmets provide protection to the heads of the workers from injuries. These helmets also offer protection against electrical conductors and fixed objects that may result in causing an injury. When working in a chemical unit, workers must wear a safety helmet as it reduces the chances of causing any head injuries, even if the workers fall or sleep accidentally.
For workers working at construction sites, wearing a wide-brim safety helmet is essential to provide the required protection against harmful sun rays, reducing the chances of fatigue and heat stroke.
Gloves
Safety gloves are crafted to protect the hands of workers from bones, abrasions, cards, and chemical exposure. They stand as a barrier between dangerous substances and, ultimately, minimising the risk of injury and accident.
In several industries, it is mandatory to wear safety gloves while working To enhance the safety of the workers. Moreover, wearing safety gloves helps increase productivity by minimising the risk of hand, burns, and other injuries that might result in reduced efficiency.
Eye protection
Eye injuries at the workplace are a common issue, and this is why wearing the right eye protection is essential for workers in every industrial setting. In the absence of eye protection, foreign and chemical objects enter the eyes of the workers and result in scratching the cornea. Moreover, other common eye injuries occur from burns from steam, fluids splashed in the eye, and exposure to infrared or ultraviolet radiation.
Conclusion
It is essential for employers to take utmost care of their workers or employees and ensure their safety at the workplace. Hence, regardless of the type of industrial setting, each employer must provide their workers with the best quality, reliable, and durable safety gear to provide them safety and protection from the mishappenings that commonly occur at workplaces.
Essential safety solutions must be bought from the best suppliers at the best prices and be well-stocked like LnTSufin to achieve high-quality protection within the budget.
