currently confused seeing ppl claiming to like Steve Rogers being angry at his July 4th birthday just being US military propaganda, even tho that's entirely in line with Steve's character and how "Captain America" even came to be
it's like ppl are thinking Steve just put on red white & blue tights and spandex and called himself Cap'n Merica of his own accord after getting serumed... but the Cap persona was entirely a US propaganda creation in and out of universe, and Steve has always expressed discontent at being treated like a propaganda tool. Even when Steve was on the battlefield, he was treated as a tool for shooting biased war press reels. The origins of Cap has a whole thing of Steve being kept out of the way so the US flag uniform wouldn't be caught in more gruesome missions while Bucky is sent to do assassinations. So much of the persona of Cap is based on propaganda being used to sublimate Steve's own identity in favor of generals with agendas. And Steve time and time again showing his distaste at being played like a puppet and rebelling against those agendas and authorities is a repeated thing. It's thematic, and a mirror to Bucky's loss of identity as well
A core part Steve's identity like his birthday getting fabricated makes perfect sense. Idk why people would be upset at Steve not having the American Patriot birthday when it's entirely in line thematically with what Cap even is to the real person who had that persona pushed onto him. it makes perfect sense
Yeah when they say Steve's birthday is July 4th, it's really more like 'Steve's' birthday 'is.' 😅
Interestingly, I don't think we don't know for sure that it's his real birthday in the MCU.
But we do know that's the birthday Steve put down on his last fake enlistment card:
Tumblr media
And what appears in his SHIELD file:
Tumblr media
So who knows? 🤷‍♀️
Could it be that MCU Steve's official birthday is 4th July because Steve himself was being a little shit on his enlistment form? 🤦‍♀️ (And/or, just really bad at lying??)
I wonder how that would affect his feelings about it, if so.
Would he, at first, be smug that he has managed to bamboozle the authorities? Sheepish that he forgot to correct that detail? Would it take on a bittersweet edge, once the whole 'Captain America' debacle happens? And would it then become relief, when he realises he finally has one thing about himself that actually gets to remain private?
Could it be that it really is MCU!Steve's birthday, and that that itself was part of the inspiration for an 'Uncle Sam' type figure being built around Steve? 🤔 Lots of possibilities, when you think about it!
Myself, I'm partial to the old pre-war trope of kid Steve and Bucky going to watch the fireworks on 4th July, and Bucky telling Steve they're all for him. 🥺
Having that birthday really could've affected his life in little ways. Like, imagine he was born premature and it was his birthday that lit an extra little fire under the doctors, to make sure he makes it?
(Can't you just imagine the newspapers doing a '4th July Baby Makes It Against the Odds!!' type piece? 😭)
Sidenote: When we talk about Steve/Cap being kept squeaky clean, out of the way of anything that might drag 'the flag' into disrepute, while Bucky is sent off to do the real dirty jobs... that's the case in the comics, but not in MCU, where Bucky is not shown doing anything -- ideologically speaking -- that Steve/Cap isn't.
It's also interesting to think of Steve's birth in terms of WWI and when it physically could've fallen, in order to fit with his father's deployment (in the American Army, not the Irish, as per CATFA).
One idea I considered is Steve having been born in December, so he could've been born on the Irish Independence Day. 😊

Breaking Barriers With DevOps: A Digital Transformation Journey
In today's rapidly evolving technological landscape, the term "DevOps" has become ingrained. But what does it truly entail, and why is it of paramount importance within the realms of software development and IT operations? In this comprehensive guide, we will embark on a journey to delve deeper into the principles, practices, and substantial advantages that DevOps brings to the table.
Tumblr media
Understanding DevOps
DevOps, a fusion of "Development" and "Operations," transcends being a mere collection of practices; it embodies a cultural and collaborative philosophy. At its core, DevOps aims to bridge the historical gap that has separated development and IT operations teams. Through the promotion of collaboration and the harnessing of automation, DevOps endeavors to optimize the software delivery pipeline, empowering organizations to efficiently and expeditiously deliver top-tier software products and services.
Key Principles of DevOps
Collaboration: DevOps champions the concept of seamless collaboration between development and operations teams. This approach dismantles the conventional silos, cultivating communication and synergy.
Automation: Automation is the crucial for DevOps. It entails the utilization of tools and scripts to automate mundane and repetitive tasks, such as code integration, testing, and deployment. Automation not only curtails errors but also accelerates the software delivery process.
Continuous Integration (CI): Continuous Integration (CI) is the practice of automatically combining code alterations into a shared repository several times daily. This enables teams to detect integration issues in the embryonic stages of development, expediting resolutions.
Continuous Delivery (CD): Continuous Delivery (CD) is an extension of CI, automating the deployment process. CD guarantees that code modifications can be swiftly and dependably delivered to production or staging environments.
Monitoring and Feedback: DevOps places a premium on real-time monitoring of applications and infrastructure. This vigilance facilitates the prompt identification of issues and the accumulation of feedback for incessant enhancement.
Core Practices of DevOps
Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Infrastructure as Code (IaC) encompasses the management and provisioning of infrastructure using code and automation tools. This practice ensures uniformity and scalability in infrastructure deployment.
Containerization: Containerization, expressed by tools like Docker, covers applications and their dependencies within standardized units known as containers. Containers simplify deployment across heterogeneous environments.
Orchestration: Orchestration tools, such as Kubernetes, oversee the deployment, scaling, and monitoring of containerized applications, ensuring judicious resource utilization.
Microservices: Microservices architecture dissects applications into smaller, autonomously deployable services. Teams can fabricate, assess, and deploy these services separately, enhancing adaptability.

good news, bad news, weird news: immortality machine (fabric, modded 1.18.2) edition
GOOD NEWS:
the system for applying taglocks to poppets changed while i wasn't looking and right now all you have to do is put a player taglock and poppet in a crafting grid to assign it; this means you can automate DPP assignment with two mechanical crafters.
death protection poppets still prevent void damage, including /kill, meaning they still make you functionally immortal if you've got enough of them.
create deployers can take taglocks! sort of. more on that in the Weird News section.
BAD NEWS:
death protection poppets don't work when placed on shelves anymore. in order for the machine to work i'd have to find a way to get them to autofill into my inventory or at the very least have a system i can immediately grab them from, whenever and wherever i want.
this would be less of a problem if i had access to literally any of the other mods required for this. i do not. bewitchment is a fabric mod and 99% of the other mods i'd use to automate the materials for crafting the poppets (including spawner/mob killing automation) or add other QOL things to make this easier are forge-only. essentially, version incompatibility is making this extremely difficult to automate.
WEIRD NEWS
DPPs give you totem of undying buffs (absorption, resistance, fire resistance, regeneration) on breaking now? this is insane. for context, the DPPs in my profile picture would keep you at a half heart and give you weakness for a few seconds when they broke.
it kind of seems like deployers can't taglock from beds at the moment? i'm going to have to keep fiddling around with it, but this is a huge setback if they really can't -- taglocking from a player bed removes the need to collect taglocks by manually sitting in front of a deployer or just doing it yourself.
the DPP recipe has changed from ectoplasm, spanish moss, diamond, and heart to vines, hay bale, ghast tear, dried kelp, and demon heart. 3/5 of these aren't much of an issue, but the ghast tear and demon heart require farms, and the demon heart will need a modded spawner setup to automate. this is a bit of an issue because, uh, see point 2 in Bad News?
i'm tired of messing around with this stuff at the moment, so that's it for the day. for the record, i still think this is 99% automatable (save for inventory refill, unless i can invent modded item shadowing somehow), i just... wish i had access to any of the tools i know how to use in order to actually automate this. right now i'm in unfamiliar territory because of so many of my known utility mods being forge-only.
more on this whenever i come back to this puzzle, i guess?

::: [ ν ] - εγλ 0003 - January - Midgar.
Snow falls on the upper plate like the memory of ash from a distant inferno, lending the streets an oily shimmer that promises black ice. A dusting of grey-white sticks in the medians and on the sidewalks and eaves. Where it accumulates, city lights glare, a glowing haze through steam and exhaust and the whirling gyre and gambol of ice crystals dancing on the thin breeze.
A dirty mirror, Midgar reflects back on the shelf of clouds that swallows the tallest of skyscrapers.
Closing in. Claustrophobic. Strangling. They would all get on so much better if everything above the cloud deck disappeared.
Funny how this is the cleanest the air has been in months. Even with the pervasive smog captured in feeble flakes, the air feels anything but clear.
For Kunsel, trust in the monolith fractured years ago, if it was ever more than tenuous at all. ShinRa provided shape to the lives of its men--the steadiness of work, the structure of orders, the rhythm of stipends and paychecks, deployment and leave. Many became complacent.
A few did not.
Fewer still remain.
Hope, though. Hope is not dead. Rumors of its demise are as fabricated as ShinRa’s KIA announcements, and that is what fuels Kunsel’s stride here and now.
The security door to the workshop annex beeps and clacks, staccato thumps unlatching before a sharp shoulder-check shoves it open. Not at all stealthy. He does not intend to be.
Kunsel is out of uniform - a long surplus riding coat buckles over his chest and dusts the backs of his booted calves. Low-profile pauldrons - sculpted close to his shoulders - match the pattern over his elbows, speaking of ablative protection against road rash.
No helmet. Can’t wear a motorcycle helmet with ease when you’ve got a shell on your head, and he has a mind to get out this evening, one way or another.
“Roche! You around, man?”
It has been hard on the speed demon, not that he often lets it be known. Not directly. Kunsel is nothing if not observant, blessing and a curse. This semi-exile is ignominious, unique in ShinRa’s history, though the Company has a knack for devising cages for its most dangerous beasts and its most volatile weapons. Some cages are more literal than others.
”Didn’t see you at the mess service. Brought ya something.”
The junk-free top of a rolling tool cart is as likely a place as any to shrug his pack off. It’s a horizontal surface. It’ll do. He deposits a heavy thermos and half sheet paperboard box, tell-tale pink peeking through the plastic window.

NASA’s Stratospheric Balloon Mission Gets Telescope With Giant Mirror Telescopes designed to operate in space have to be constructed differently than those meant to operate on the ground. But what about telescopes that operate in between? An upcoming NASA mission will use a balloon larger than a football field to send a telescope 130,000 feet (about 40,000 meters) above Antarctica. From that height, the telescope will study a phenomenon that chokes off star formation in some galaxies, effectively killing them. The mission, called the Astrophysics Stratospheric Telescope for High Spectral Resolution Observations at Submillimeter-wavelengths, or ASTHROS, will use a primary mirror (this telescope’s main light-gathering tool) that’s tied for the largest ever to fly on a high-altitude balloon. Construction of the 8.2-foot (2.5-meter) mirror wrapped up this month. Designing and building it proved challenging because of two key demands: The mirror and its support structure must be exceptionally light to travel by balloon, yet strong enough to keep the pull of Earth’s gravity from deforming its almost perfect parabolic shape by any more than about 0.0001 inches (2.5 micrometers) – a fraction of the width of a human hair. Managed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California, ASTHROS is set to launch no earlier than December 2023, circling the South Pole for up to four weeks. NASA’s Scientific Balloon Program, operated by the agency’s Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia, launches 10 to 15 balloon missions each year. These missions typically cost less than space missions and take less time to move from early planning to deployment, and they employ new technologies that can be used on future space missions. High up in the stratosphere, ASTHROS will observe wavelengths of light that are blocked by Earth’s atmosphere, in a range called far-infrared. Its large mirror will enhance the telescope’s ability to observe fainter light sources and resolve finer details of those sources. Those capabilities are essential to the mission’s approach to studying stellar feedback, the process by which clouds of gas and dust – the ingredients for making stars – are dispersed in galaxies, sometimes to the point that star formation halts entirely. Many processes contribute to feedback, including eruptions from living stars and the explosive deaths of massive stars as supernovae. ASTHROS will look at several star-forming regions in our galaxy where these processes take place, creating high-resolution 3D maps of the distribution and motion of gas. The mission will also look at distant galaxies containing millions of stars to see how feedback plays out at large scales and in different environments. “It’s difficult to explore feedback all the way from where it originates, at the scale of individual stars, to where it has an effect, on the scale of galaxies,” said Jorge Pineda, principal investigator for ASTHROS at JPL. “With a large mirror we can connect those two.” Meeting the Challenge NASA contracted Media Lario, an optics company in Italy, to design and produce ASTHROS’ full telescope unit, including a primary mirror, secondary mirror, and supporting structure (called the cradle). Media Lario previously developed a unique method for manufacturing lightweight infrared and optical telescope mirrors, which the company used to produce many of the panels for the primary mirrors of the Atacama Large Millimeter Array, a group of 66 ground-based telescopes in Chile. The ASTHROS primary mirror features nine panels, which are significantly easier to fabricate than a one-piece mirror. The bulk of the mirror panels consist of lightweight aluminum, formed into a honeycomb structure that reduces its total mass. The panel surfaces are made of nickel and coated with gold, which improves the mirror’s reflectivity at far-infrared wavelengths. Because the ASTHROS team won’t be able to fine-tune the alignment of the panels once the telescope lifts off, the cradle supporting the mirror needs to be lightweight yet exceptionally strong and rigid to prevent any deformation. Carbon fiber would do the trick. So, to build the cradle and other structural components, Media Lario turned to local companies in Italy that typically produce specialized structures for competitive racing boats and cars. “I think this is probably the most complex telescope ever built for a high-altitude balloon mission,” said Jose Siles, the ASTHROS project manager at JPL. “We had specifications similar to a space telescope but on a tighter budget, schedule, and mass. We had to combine techniques from ground-based telescopes that observe in similar wavelengths with advanced manufacturing techniques used for professional racing sailboats. It’s pretty unique.” Media Lario will deliver the full telescope unit to NASA in late July. After that, the ASTHROS team will integrate it with the gondola (the structure that holds the entire payload and attaches to the balloon) and other key components. Then they’ll begin a series of tests to ensure everything is ready for flight. More About the Mission A division of Caltech in Pasadena, California, JPL manages the ASTHROS mission for the Astrophysics Division of NASA’s Science Mission Directorate in Washington. JPL is also building the mission’s scientific payload. The Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Laboratory in Laurel, Maryland, is developing the gondola and pointing systems. The payload cryocooler was developed by Lockheed Martin under NASA’s Advanced Cryocooler Technology Development Program. Other key partners include Arizona State University and the University of Miami. ASTHROS’ high-performance carbon fiber parts were produced by Persico Marine in Nembro, Italy, and Lamiflex S.p.A in Ponte Nossa, Italy. NASA’s Scientific Balloon Program and its Columbia Science Balloon Facility in Palestine, Texas, will provide the balloon and launch services. ASTHROS will be launched from NASA’s Long Duration Balloon Facility in Antarctica, near McMurdo Station. The station is managed by the National Science Foundation through the U.S. Antarctic Program. TOP IMAGE....The 8.2-foot (2.5-meter) primary mirror on NASA's Astrophysics Stratospheric Telescope for High Spectral Resolution Observations at Submillimeter-wavelengths mission, or ASTHROS, is one of the largest to ever fly on a high-altitude balloon. The lightweight mirror, shown here, is coated in gold and nickel to make it more reflective in far-infrared wavelengths. NASA contracted Media Lario, an optics company in Bosisio Parini, Italy, to design and produce ASTHROS' full telescope unit, including the primary mirror, a secondary mirror, and supporting structure (called the cradle). The mirror is pictured at Media Lario. The mission's main science goal is to study stellar feedback, the process by which living stars disperse and reshape clouds of gas and dust that may eventually form new stars. Feedback regulates star formation in many galaxies, and too much can halt star formation entirely. ASTHROS will look at several star-forming regions in our galaxy where feedback takes place, and at distant galaxies containing millions of stars to see how feedback plays out at large scales and in different environments. Key capabilities and benefits of the MiniAiLive SDK with advanced liveness detection
Tackling the Spoofing Threat
As security systems become more ubiquitous, the risks of identity spoofing using photos, videos or masks have also risen considerably. Without effective liveness detection, an unauthorized individual can easily bypass authentication by presenting a fabricated face sample.
The MiniAiLive SDK utilizes cutting-edge deep learning techniques to distinguish live faces from 2D or 3D spoof attempts in real-time. It analyses fine details from camera frames like skin texture, eye blinking, head movements and other live face attributes that spoofing media cannot accurately replicate. This makes it very difficult for spoofing tools to fool the system.
Multi-Algorithm Approach
Rather than relying on a single algorithm, MiniAiLive uses an ensemble of algorithms to determine face liveness with extremely high accuracy. Its multi-algorithm approach involves both motion-based and photometry-based analyses for comprehensively detecting even sophisticated spoofing media and abnormal facial motions.
The SDK also continuously updates its deep neural network through new training data to recognize the latest spoofing mediums and techniques. This multi-pronged methodology future-proofs the solution against emerging spoofing threats.
Seamless camera integration
The MiniAiLive SDK is designed to be easily integrated with IP, analog and networked cameras. It provides user-friendly APIs for rapid implementation of liveness checks within existing camera feeds and video management systems.
System integrators can leverage the SDK’s plug-and-play functionality for scenarios like access control turnstiles, office/building security, bank ATMs etc. with just a few lines of code. This allows camera manufacturers to augment their offerings with beneficial anti-spoofing capabilities without extensive development efforts.
Centralized and distributed deployment
The MiniAiLive SDK supports both centralized and distributed deployment architectures. For large centralized systems, it can run on a dedicated edge server for liveness verification across hundreds of networked IP cameras.
In distributed mode, the SDK’s lightweight neural networks allow on-camera deployment for systems with embedded cameras or edge devices with limited resources. This flexibility enables Right-sized implementations matching varied system scales and topographies.
Continuous performance improvement
With active research and expanded training datasets, MiniAiLive is continuously improving the spoofing detection capability of its SDK. System integrators benefit from regular software updates delivering incremental enhancements in accuracy, robustness, processor efficiency and new feature additions.
MiniAiLive also provides expert guidance and assistance throughout the integration and optimization process. The continual upgrades ensure clients remain protected from the latest spoofing tools and methods.
