"Is Astarion 5'9'' like Larian said or is he 5'11'' like the game says?"
Well apparently the 5'9'' info comes from someone doing conversion wrong and whoever runs the Larian account got it from there??? But honestly just split the difference. Fuck it. He's 5'10''.
But, can I be honest? What if he is 5'11''? People think it's funnier if he's average height, but that's because you're all working on the assumption that tall=hot because you come from the real world where that's always the conclusion. Him being tall is assumed to be a W because being tall IRL is Good. And he's got too many Ws already.
But I think there's inherent comedy in him being an uncomfortably tall elf. Like, in-universe, being a tall elf would be weird. Imagine fellow elves being like "Oh that's a pretty elf! But why is he so ... tall?" and scrunching up their noses a little in disgust. What if his fey ancestry just makes him ... long. Just a little too long for comfort. Like someone took a normal elf and used the liquify tool to drag his pixels upward.
Most people headcanon that he's slender/skinnier than he is in the game. Combine that with him being tall, and we get this sorta Slenderman vibe. Borzoi on hind legs type beat.
When he's hiding you get this shambling specter rearranging his limbs so they fit into whatever dark corner he's found this time. When he sneaks up on an enemy he locomotes like stick bug.
I am biased because my Tav is very short and I think it's hilarious and cute when there's a significant height difference. But I do think there's a lot of comedy to be had with awkwardly tall Astarion if we stop assuming that him being tall automatically makes him hotter.
