When things go wrong part 2
The crew was captured by some mysterious people in lab coats and military gear, the only people they didn't take were B team and Fiona (she's still new and they don't realize she's immortal)
The whole crew was taken while away at a safe house, Fiona was watching the pent house dealing with a splitting headache from a recent spawn she sees on the news a familiar house on fire and all calls to the crew give no response
She calls Sarah to see if she can get in contact with any of them but the most they can find is a clip of a security camera showing blurry vans leaving the safe house as it catches fire
It's almost a month before they managed to get a location, thanks to Larry, and in that time Fiona went from worried to pissed to deadly
Her and all of B team storm a well protected building killing anyone that crosses their path and ripping each room apart looking for info or the crew. Finally they find a room with Geoff hooked to medical equipment and surrounded by doctors and gaurds
After quick work of the guards they free Geoff and ask him what happened, he's clearly exhausted but he does manage to tell them the rest of the crew are in cells somewhere else in the building
The building feels like it keeps going down, and they find the cells at the lowest level, finally freeing most of them except Ryan and Jeremy
And even after the entire building is cleared out, they're no where to be found
The computers start wiping themselves as they're leaving but Larry and an exhausted Matt manage to get some information on the people who did this
Including a name The Agency

Jeremy grit his teeth as he towered over the body on the ground. For a split second, he thought that maybe he had gone too far, done something he would forever regret. But then the other moved and Jeremy felt the tension leave his body as that guilt was erased. He tightened the grip on his gun as he planted his foot firmly on the other’s chest. “Just. Stay. Down.” He all but pleaded to Ryan through his labored breaths.
Ryan sneered up at him from where he lay and clenched his hands into fists, feeling the shards of glass dig their way further into his palms. Jeremy’s shoulders slumped as he closed his eyes for a brief moment, opening them once more to blink back tears. “Please don’t make me hurt you anymore,” he whimpered as he pointed his pistol at Ryan’s face. The man turned his face to the side to spit out the blood that had pooled in his mouth, angry eyes never leaving Jeremy’s.
“Do it,” he ordered. His voice was low and threatening and it sent shivers down Jeremy’s back to hear it like that directed at him. “You couldn’t then and you can’t now.” Ryan’s words dug in, desperately searching for something to latch on to. “You’re too weak, Jeremy. Even after all of this time, you still can’t pull the trigger, can you?” He watched with guilty pleasure as Jeremy’s eyes darted away to the gun before returning onto him. That split second of being released from his ex-partner’s gaze was like having a bucket of ice water dumped onto him.
He brought his hands up to grip Jeremy’s leg, digging his fingers into the exposed skin harshly. “You know I’m a danger to everyone, Jeremy. You know I’m not going to stop until I finish with you.” Jeremy jolted back as the ever infamous manic grin of the Vagabond appeared on his friend’s face. His reaction only seemed to spur Ryan on further as his fingers started to draw blood. “I’ll kill them all. Every last one of them. And I’ll make sure you watch, Jeremy. Watch as I skin them alive and tear them apart. Limb. By. Limb.” He enunciated each word with a sharp tug that ripped his skin further and further.
Jeremy grit his teeth to hold back his pained noises. He knew Ryan was right. Knew he had to get rid of this threat before he got any closer to the Fakes.
But this was his friend. His partner. The man he had leaned on for so many years while they were under the thumb of the agency.
Jeremy still harbored a deep guilt at leaving Ryan with them when he had the opportunity to escape. He should have brought the other with him. Should have insisted that the Fakes bring the both of them when he had the chance.
He had meant to go back for Ryan. He really did. But when Ryan fell off the radar, Jeremy had entrusted Gavin with keeping an eye out for his return. Never did he expect that the Golden Boy would keep a secret as big as this from him.
But what was done was done. There was nothing Jeremy could do to erase the past. But he had hoped that perhaps he would be able to get through to his best friend. Maybe explain everything that had happened. He closed his eyes tightly until Ryan impatiently ripped at his leg again. Jeremy let out a yelp of surprise at the sudden pain as his eyes flew open to see a stranger there.
Somewhere along the way, Jeremy had forgotten to consider that the agency would twist Ryan into something different. That his own actions would force Ryan to grow into something meaner. That he would lose the friend he had known for all those years. He never thought that he would encounter his friend again and be met with a rabid stranger.
“DO IT!” He roared and Jeremy tore his gaze from the man under him as his finger pulled the trigger. The gunshot echoed throughout the empty street as Jeremy let out a pained sob. He refused to look over, to see whether or not the bullet hit.

Headcanon that FAHC!Ryan is in the process of getting his PhD. It was kind of accidental really. He went into the Agency without a university degree and ran from them with lots of education, but nothing on what he really wanted. After becoming the Vagabond and getting a steady (relatively speaking) income, he applied to university, something to do with theatre or classics, all online obviously, and the beginning was rough, and who gives a shit about that one mandatory science class when he knows how to make bombs, but after first year he loves it. He loves learning about stuff he enjoys, and doing it willingly, and in a way the freedom over his own life it shows. And then it just,, keeps going. He gets his Bachelor's, and then realizes a Master's is only an extra year, and he graduates his Master's like a week before joining the Fakes or something. And to the Fakes he has no hobbies bc he's just always in his room doing god knows what but really he just got the Okay from the university and now he's a PhD candidate and holy shit is it a lot of work but it never really comes up and none of the crew knows any of this. And maybe one day he comes in after being mysteriously gone all day and asks to go out that night and the rest are like ??? but sure if bevs are involved they're down and then Ryan breaks the news he now has a PhD and the others are like ?!?!?! bc at least half of them are high school dropouts and they assumed the same for Ryan but really this dude is basically a professor of classics or smthn and he's just So Happy about it (and obviously a total nerd who gets a PhD in Classics what a loser).
(idk school started and I'm ever so slightly self projecting)

What would the FAHC do if one of them arrived back from a solo mission with an injured small child, saying, “Well, I couldn’t just LEAVE her!” Bonus points if the person doing this is Ryan, though Trevor, Micheal, and Gavin seem like the more obvious choices.
Anon idk what you're on about, Ryan would TOTALLY be the one to do this!! Also this is super adorable tysm (also it's a bit long hope that's okay!)
Okay so, it's a quiet day around the penthouse. Nothing's really been going on lately, the crew is laying low. Ryan and Jeremy were sent to gather information on some drug dealer that's been climbing in popularity these past few weeks. Not that any of the Fakes do much more than maybe smoke weed, they don't need any new criminals getting cocky, and druggies in Los Santos are particularly handsy when it comes to stealing money from others. Now it's just waiting for the Battle Buddies to get back.
There's talking from outside and Gavin is the first to hear it. Without setting down his controller or standing from his position playing around on his X-Box, he calls out,
"Jeremy and Ryan are back!"
The door opens, and in they come. First Jeremy who looks slightly annoyed, then Ryan, then..a little girl?? Gavin hears what sounds like a very quiet sniffle and turns around, wondering why his friend would be crying, then he sees this toddler, she can't be older than 5 or 6, crying quietly and holding onto Ryan's sleeve as if her life depended on it. Of course he's confused as hell because Holy Shit that's an actual child?? What's it doing here?? He pauses his game and turns on the couch.
"Uh, who's your new friend, Ry?"
Jeremy is the first to speak up. "We don't know yet. We found her with that guy we were looking for. We think he's her dad or something-"
"WAS her dad. You saw how that home looked, Jeremy," Ryan turns and picks up the shaking girl, holding her close. "A drug den is no home for a toddler. That place didn't even have furniture, and the way he was talking to her too.." He covers the girl's ears, "Look at her. She's bruised and has a few scrapes too. He didn't deserve to live. We may be criminals, but he was a bad guy."
Jeremy sighs softly. He felt bad for the girl too, but he didn't want to get involved, or have to kill anyone.
"You're right. I'm gonna go change into something more comfortable and get the others, watch your daughter," and with a wave, Jeremy was jogging upstairs.
Gavin is just staring in awe at this point. They'd definitely have to talk about this later but for now this poor girl needed help. He cleared some space beside him on the couch and motioned for Ryan to sit with the girl, who's stopped crying by now. Ryan sits and the girl sits between the two men. Ryan speaks softly, and it's almost unnatural to what Gavin is used to. But he had to admit, it was weirdly cute to see the Vagabond being so careful and nice.
"Hey, it's okay, alright? We aren't gonna hurt you. I promise," he nearly whispers out. "I'm Ryan, and this is Gavin. We're gonna help you feel better. What's your name, sweetheart?"
The girl stares at them both, starting to calm down thanks to his soft voice. She still has a death grip on his arm though. She sniffles, and in a very low and shaky voice says,
"..Em..Emma.."
Her voice, though small, makes both of them smile. Emma. She has a name. Now it's Gav's turn, "What a lovely name, Emma. How old are you?" Queue Ry being surprised by how gentle Gav sounds this time
She sniffles and coughs a bit. "I'm..uhm. F-Five.."
Gavin smiles and reaches for his controller, "Well, Emma, do you like video games?" She nods softly and stares at the shiny golden controller in his hand. He exits the game he was playing and selects Minecraft from the menu. He makes a special creative world just for her, and hands her the controller. She plays the game for a bit, and Gavin sits, helping her. There are footsteps coming down the stairs, enter Jeremy, Michael, and Jack. It's obvious Jeremy's informed the other two by how quiet they are. They fill in the room, trying not to intimidate the poor girl and she notices, staring at them. Ryan introduces everyone, and they all wave. Jack smiles and hands over a folded up quilt. "Here, honey. It's nice and warm, I think you'll like it." Emma takes the blanket, and with the help of Ryan, it's draped around her shoulders. She smiles slightly at this, earning a tender smile from the others.
"Geoff is busy and didn't want to be bothered, but he knows of the situation and will be down in a bit. I also dropped a text in the group chat letting the others know, so expect to see them very soon too," says Jeremy.
Michael then stands up gently and heads to the kitchen, coming back with half of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. He kneels in front of the girl on the floor and smiles. He thinks he hears Gav whisper something about "big brother instincts" but he ignores it. "You hungry? PB&J is my favorite, try some. I think you'll like it a whole lot." She stares at him, studying his face, and slowly takes the half of the sandwich. She eats it quickly, and Michael smiles. "See? Yummy."
There's a quiet knock at the door, and it opens slowly to reveal the entirety of the B Team. They must've carpooled. Fiona and Lindsay cover their mouths and both make quiet "aww" noises. They sit on the floor a few feet away, watching the girl. Trevor, Alfredo, and Matt stand around, watching quizzically. Emma studies them. As her eyes dart to each of them, they introduce themselves. They take turns for the next few hours, asking Emma what she likes, laughing together, and teaching her about themselves. It's around 7 in the afternoon when Geoff comes down. He sees Gavin and Ryan still on the couch, but Emma is now on the floor in front of the TV beside Matt and Michael. They're teaching her to play Mario Kart, and though she's still quiet, she's enjoying all of the nice attention and love. Jack looks over at Geoff and invites him to sit by her on one of the couches. He does so and watches for a while. Alfredo, who's standing nearby, leans down and whispers, "Her name is Emma and I think it's safe to say we'd all die for her." Jack hears this and nods, still smiling. Geoff, who was confused at first, looks at the young girl again and smiles. Whether they keep the girl or take her to an adoption agency so she can have a normal life, he doesn't know yet. What he does know, is that she's adorable, and he's always wanted to be a dad.
Over the next few weeks, they all do every single thing they possibly can to make the girl feel safe and at home. She opens up to them more too. She even starts to love them it seems. She remembers their names, and enjoys sharing a bed with Jack. They learn that Emma doesn't remember her mom, so of course Jack becomes the most motherly she's ever been. Geoff is the most fatherly of them towards her, with everyone else filling in the role of her big brothers and sisters. Pestering her, gently of course, and helping her out with everything she needs. Emma still seems to have a connection to Ryan the most, but she loves her new friends and potential family equally
This was way longer than I intended but it was ADORABLE so I just went with it lol 💚 also I didn't realize until it was too late that you said "solo mission" so uhh, I'm sorry but I hope the Battle Buddies works out!!

Somebody in the Fakes: I can't believe you had to break out of the agency that trained you after finding out they were corrupt and making you do bad things, that must have been so hard. Battle buddies, who broke out because the agency had a strict policy about agents not dating each other and found out about the corruptness on the way out: haha yeah well you know we have morals definitely
Ryan and Jeremy being so in love that they break out of the agency is peak. I like to think Ryan and Jeremy were already long gone when they realized the corruption in the agency. Maybe they are a few months free from the agency and enjoying the mercenary life when some othwr agents/bosses come and try to kill them.
The Battle Buddies do some digging and realize the agency is real bad news. The Battle Buddies keep and eye on the agency and take out some of the agents as they come after the BBs. The BBs join the FAHC and enjoy life as criminals. Still not even being half as bad as the agency.
Then one day the agency comes after the Fakes maybe Jack or Gavin are injured. Maybe someone else. It doesn't really matter. The Battle Buddies see red and go after the agency. They don't talk to the FAHC for months. They even start to think Ryan and Jeremy are dead.
Then Ryan and Jeremy are back. The entire American Section of the Agency has been wiped out. No remorse from the Battle Buddies. To them enough was enough. Now they are good to be in love forever. No agency to hold them back. Just the Battle Buddies and their friends in the FAHC.

FAHC AU with hitmens!Gavin and rookie hitmens!Fiona who end up in Los Santos due to betrayal from their bosses/agency?
They manage to stay under the radar by posing as being known as a pair of generally competent criminal types? Hacker and muscle and both above average snipers. Know their tech and computer stuff, which is always a nice bonus.
Also, though?
Kind of idiots.
A lot of stories to back that up, but anyone looking to take advantage of them/consider them expendable or an acceptable loss meet with an ugly (bloody) end.
(No one realizes it for a long time since Gavin and Fiona know how to make something like that look like an accident, you know?)
Eventually they join the Fakes, where they run into the Battle Buddies again.
Relatively friendly enemies, although there was that one time Ryan shot Gavin in the back. Nothing personal, but still rude? But it’s all good because Fiona stabbed him in the side the next time they ran into one another.
(That time it was personal, just a little.)
Jeremy winged Fiona in a shootout in Spain, and she fucked up his pretty little sports car in Italy.
(They were on vacation at the time and Jeremy’s design choices have always been abysmal, and Ryan sent her a card and a bouquet of gourmet lolipops as a personal thank-you.)
Anyway.
Turns out the Battle Buddies also suffered betrayal at the hands of their superiors and went to regroup in Los Santos where Geoff and the others happened to them?
And then there’s Michael who was Gavin’s handler at the agency before he supposedly died on a mission with another hitmens, and oh, hey, look.
It’s Lindsay and apparenty the angecy betrayed them too? But it’s cool because Meg - hitmens/assassin in her own right and someone who came dangerously close to killing Gavin, Michael, and Lindsay on more than one occasion before everyhing got stupid complicared with the agency and its betrayals - came along and scooped them up and introduced them to the lucrative world of crime and doing crime?
At which point everyone looks at Geoff who is just “What the fuck?” at how all these assholes know one another and did Jack know about this?
Because look.
The two of them working for the military way back when and - shocker - betrayed by their superiors and then the wonderful, wacky word of crime and it’s honestly gotten ridiculous at this point?
But Meg - who’s in town for a bit to visit Lindsay and Michael and has been eyeing Gavin up becuase it’s been a while since that night in that Paris where they had that knife fight on the roof of a fancy hotel which was the sexy/dangerous kind of fun and such - is like.
“So are you guys finally going to get revenge for shit or what?”
And then a lot of government agencies - sekrit, shady, ones - learn what it means to be very fucking sorry about their past actions and idk, just everyone being more or less in the same boat cracks me up?
(Especially with Geoff being like how the hell did this happen because really, you know, really).
As does the thought of Gavin and Fiona feigning idiocy (well, stupidity, really) and secretly being >:DDDDDDDDDDDD about it???

There’s so much about the Battle Buddies working together before Fahc, but please for you consideration
Jeremy, Ryan, and Gavin working together as an unstoppable team of assassins.
The Hitman Crew, people call them.
People come to them with all kinds of problems. Depending on the situation, how they work together changes.
It’s rare all three of them go in together. Usually one, maybe two if the situation calls for it, will go in while the others monitors the cameras.
But they work together ever step of the process. The planning, the scoping, even through the execution.
Hence why so often Ryan gets into situations where Gav or Jeremy watching through the cams tells him to do something and he does and things go to shit but somehow they always get out clean (well, clean as in no one knows it’s them. It’s just sometimes that requires killing everyone involved).
But if you need someone taken out, or if you need something stolen from a high security place (and don’t mind a few casualties along the way), they’re the people to call.
They work for years under an agency similar to the ICA in Hitman, taking jobs around the world from the wealthy elite looking to hide up shady business.
Until the Agency falls, or something goes wrong on a mission (maybe one of them almost dies, and is removed from the team and the agency tries to make the other two leave him behind, but they *refuse* and wind up faking their deaths to run away)
But somehow they make their way to Los Santos and quickly make a reputation there (Maybe Gav is the one that is hurt? So he turns for quite some time upon their arrival in Los Santos into just a hacker, they overwatch for Jeremy and Ryan)
Which leads them to catch the eye of FAHC
And like Gav maybe after 6 months or so, he starts taking stealth jobs again
Thieving jobs. Silent Assassinations.
Things that are, all things considered, low risk.
He needed some time to heal. But once he feels ready, there’s an itch to get back out there. Just... not loudly as he was once involved with.
Bonus if Fahc doesn’t know about Gav.
I’m fact, no one knows about Gav, and it’s always a question like how do the Battle Buddies have the information they do, see the things coming like they have an eye in the sky when it’s just them
So when Geoff invites the two of them to join, like they initially decline and then when he persists a few months later, and hey, Gav has pulled off a few jobs now, he was back in it
They agree only on the condition that it’s an offer for their whole team. All three of them.
Luckily it doesn’t take Gav long to fit right in with the crew, and with his skills they have an edge they didn’t before

Edgar Has Always Been Kind of a Bitch
hi okay so it's a little after midnight but I'm posting a fic rn bc it's the first fic I've written in like,, a yr and a half and also I'm rlly excited abt it??
anyway battle buddies/fahc jeremwood angst based on ramblings in a gc
(warning for minor assault implications at the beginning, and brief mentions of a suicide attempt at the end)!!!
Fiona and Gavin decide that what Jeremy needs is a night of bevs, and, to put it simply, get wasted, so the crew settles on going to a club that Friday. Jeremy only has one or two drinks, but boy does he get fucked up.
Ryan’s sitting and talking with Geoff and Jack in a booth, sipping a diet coke. He looks over Jack’s shoulder to see Jeremy standing at the bar with a much taller, more intimidating man looming over him. The guy reaches out toward Jeremy, who leans away from the touch. Jeremy nervously laughs and his eyes frantically dart around for someone, anyone who might be able to help him.
“Hello? Earth to Ryan?” Jack waves her hand in front of Ryan’s face.
“Oh, yeah. Yeah. sorry. Hey, um, I’m gonna go home, I’m just not really feeling great,” Ryan murmurs as he slides out of the booth, already heading toward Jeremy.
“Um, alright, I guess? Drive safe,” Jack calls after him.
Ryan speeds up when he sees the man grab Jeremy’s arm. Jeremy’s face flipped through a thousand emotions at once when he saw Ryan approaching, but eventually landed on confused but grateful. He gave Jeremy a look that said just go with what I’m about to say.
“Hey, babe,” Ryan says. The man immediately drops his grip on Jeremy’s arm. Jeremy does his best not to choke on his own spit when he hears the word babe come out of Ryan’s mouth. He hadn’t heard it in so long, and he didn’t think it would still hurt so much.
“Oh, hey!” Jeremy turns to Ryan and reaches up to peck him on the lips. “Where’d Edgar go? It’s his birthday, I figured he would wanna hang out with his friends!”
Fuck. Mentioning something about their friend ‘Edgar’ was always code for I don’t feel good about this, let’s leave. Edgar’s birthday meant I’m having a panic attack, I need your help. Ryan wanted to punch the guy that was practically feeling Jeremy up. No—he wanted to fucking kill that bastard. He and Jeremy may have had a severe falling out, they may have suffered years of heartache and longing, but he still felt responsible to make sure Jeremy was safe.
“He said he kinda wanted to go home. He went to the bathroom while I found you. You, uh, just about ready?” Ryan’s eyes flitted between Jeremy and the other man, who cleared his throat and mumbled something about needing to go find his friends before walking off.
Jeremy and Ryan both sigh in relief once he’s gone.
“Wanna head outside for some fresh air for a minute?” Ryan asks, getting a meek, obviously shaken-up nod in return.
Jeremy says something that Ryan can’t quite hear over the music as they walk outside.
“Hm?”
“Oh, nothing. It was dumb.” Jeremy shakes his head. Ryan has had enough experience to know that it was better to just leave it alone. They both wordlessly come to a stop and lean against the wall of the building a few yards from the door. Almost as if they had been working as partners for years. They spend a few minutes saying nothing, watching people on the street, looking at the stars in the sky. Ryan can’t help but study the intricacies of Jeremy, realizing that so many things have changed, but somehow almost nothing about him is different. Jeremy’s hair is just a tad bit more grown out than it ever was at the agency (also, it’s bright purple and orange, which is not exactly the most appealing color combination, but that’s a topic for another day), but he still runs his hands through it when he’s lost in thought. It’s curlier than it used to be, but maybe that’s just because it’s longer. He still clenches his jaw so hard it seems like he’s going to break his teeth when he’s scared. He still wears a tank top under his shirt, no matter how hot it is outside. His eyes still crinkle at the corners when he lets out a bark of laughter that Ryan still swears up and down sounds exactly like a squeaky toy. He’s changed, though. Ryan can see in his eyes that he’s become aware of reality. He knows the responsibility he carries, the heavy consequences that come with his actions, that death is around the corner at every moment.
“D’you- d’you want me to take you home?” Ryan says barely above a whisper, but loud enough for Jeremy to hear. “You can go back inside if you want, but I know you always used to want to go home and be alone after Edgar shows up.” Jeremy lets out the tiniest breathy chuckle.
“Edgar has always been kind of a bitch, hasn’t he?” Jeremy says as he looks away from the sky to meet Ryan’s gaze, and his heart falls apart all over again for the thousandth time. That fond look of reminiscence and joy was one Ryan donned frequently at the agency. “I- Yeah. yeah. I’d really appreciate a ride home. I’m just a little too drunk to drive, I think.”
“Alright. I parked just down the street. Penthouse or your apartment?” Ryan hadn’t even noticed that Jeremy did seem somewhat tipsy; his Boston accent slipping in occasionally and his words slurring the tiniest bit.
“Um, apartment,” Jeremy says. “D’you rem-”
“Yes, I remember where your apartment is, Jeremy.”
It’s only a few minutes into the drive to the other side of town when Jeremy pipes up. “I honestly didn’t really expect you to help me. I didn’t expect you to remember Edgar, either. I dunno why I said it, I guess just vaguely hoping you would even though it’s been, what, three years?” he pauses for a moment and just takes in Ryan's profile. “I always hope you remember things from then. I know it went to shit, but we still had so much fun. We made so many memories and did so much dumb shit there. But I’m glad that stupid fuckin’ place collapsed. All of it was complete bullshit. I just wish it all fell apart before we did.”
Ryan doesn’t know how to respond. So he doesn’t.
“All those meetings I had to stay late for? Fuckin’ useless. They served no purpose, and I don't know why I was forced to go to them. I feel like the only reason I had to go to those meetings was because someone was hiding something from me. It was obvious that so many things were kept from us.” Jeremy stops for a second to try to will away the lump rising in his throat. “I thought you were cheating on me. For the longest time. I still don’t know whether you actually were. You were always out on ‘special missions’ and shit.”
The moment Ryan hears Jeremy let out a shaky breath his heart breaks.
“Was it me? Was I not good enough? I promise I tried my hardest to be what you needed. I’m sorry if I wasn’t. All I wanted was the best for you, Ryan. Even now, I just want you to be happy. If you're happier with someone else, then that’s what I want. I don’t blame you, though. I don’t deserve someone like you. You deserve so much better than me. I would do anything for you, Rye. We were together for so long. We did everything together! I thought I was gonna marry you. I was saving up money to get a ring. I guess I was too stupid to see that you didn’t want me anymore.”
Ryan looks over to see the tears staining Jeremy’s cheeks reflecting the soft orange glow of the streetlamps. Is this really what Jeremy thinks?
“I was so in love with you, Ryan Haywood. I’m- I’m still in love with you. I love you so goddamn much it hurts sometimes. Every time I see you hurt, upset, angry, anything other than healthy and happy my heart aches. I’m sorry I wasn't enough. I promise I tried. Fuck, I tried so hard.”
With every sob Jeremy lets out, Ryan's heart breaks just a little bit more. The short distance left until Ryan pulls up to Jeremy’s apartment building is spent wordlessly. Jeremy’s clambering out of the car and reaching to grab the door when Ryan speaks.
“Hey, Jer, do you want me to walk you up? I just want to make sure you’re safe.”
“No. I’m fine. I’ll be fine. I’ve already been a pain in your ass tonight, I don't need to waste even more of your time. I’m sorry. I’m sorry about everything.” Jeremy sniffles and wipes his cheeks, giving a half-hearted smile before shutting the door and walking away.
Ryan sits there for a second, unable to process fully what he just heard. He starts driving without even knowing where he was going, and he’s so lost in his thoughts that suddenly he’s sitting in his car in front of the boardwalk along the beach and crying. He can’t believe anything he was just told—there is no way in hell that the brilliant, witty, talented Jeremy Dooley ever doubts his worth. It’s jarring to think that part of it was because of Ryan. He was going on extra missions because the agency was growing more and more demanding. For months they tormented Ryan with the threat of kicking out Jeremy. They said they’d do other things to him that Ryan doesn’t want to remember. Why did Jeremy never bring it up? Why did he just accept that Ryan had ‘moved on?’ Their lives were so intertwined with one another that Ryan never felt truly whole again. The only reason Ryan went with the break up was that he saw how distant and cold Jeremy had gotten. Ryan had assumed that, for whatever reason, Jeremy had changed his mind. He hated it, he was devastated, but he didn't know how to fix it.
Ryan decides he doesn’t want to go back to the penthouse tonight. He pulls up to the nearest crew safehouse, and suddenly things click.
Jeremy had always struggled with bad self-image and depression. He had gone to Ryan for comfort, which he was always more than willing to give. Jeremy was doing better. At least he told Ryan he was.
Jack had mentioned a while ago that when Jeremy first joined the crew, she had found him after a suicide attempt and barely left his side until he recovered. The only reason for it Jack had told Ryan about was ‘emotional trauma from a past relationship, that he didn’t really want to talk about.’
Ryan did that to him.
Ryan did that to him.
Ryan made the love of his life want to die.
The pieces left of his heart fall into more shards than there are grains of sand in this world.
He collapses onto the couch inside, too exhausted to even get to the bed. He knows he’s not going to be able to sleep, though.
To: Geoff
Dropped Jeremy off at his place, he was pretty drunk though so check on him please
To: Geoff
I’m staying at kung fu safehouse for the night

I've had Nobody Gets Left Behind on repeat and now... I can't stop thinking of pre-FAHC Battle Buddies where Ryan gets captured by an enemy. And sure, the Agency mourns his loss, but they don't negotiate with terrorists, and ultimately he's an acceptable casualty.
Jeremy, of course, thinks fuck that and pulls every favor he has in the Agency -- the tech people he'd buy donuts for, the mechanics who he'd help fix some cars with when they were understaffed, the comms people whose birthdays Jeremy always remembered -- and, with them supporting them as much as they can without getting in huge trouble with the Agency, Jeremy goes One Man Army and brings hell to the people who took Ryan. Because they’re the fucking Battle Buddies, and nobody hurts Jeremy’s buddy.
And Ryan. Ryan fully expected to be abandoned. He’s been with the Agency much longer than Jeremy, so he knows how this works. You don’t compromise the entire system for just one agent, no matter how good they are. He didn’t dare to hope that Jeremy would disobey their superiors, because Jeremy rarely blatantly disobeyed, on or off the field. He’d test the waters, bend the rules, but coming for Ryan wouldn’t be just breaking the rules: it’d be shattering them into a thousand pieces.
Ryan’s face when the door to his cell swings open and he sees purple and orange breaks Jeremy’s goddamn heart. Ryan has to know that Jeremy would choose him over the universe if it came down to it, right? But Jeremy doesn’t know how to show Ryan that, beyond what he’s already done. He helps Ryan out of the compound -- quieter now, than when Ryan was brought in, and so much bloodier -- and into a hilariously nondescript car. Jeremy gets on the highway in the opposite direction from the Agency, and just keeps driving.
The Agency doesn’t appreciate when agents obey such direct orders, and they like loose ends even less, to put it mildly. They send agents after the Battle Buddies, because they have far too much information in their heads to let them out into the world like that, but no one except newbies who never knew them will take up the jobs. And after the first handful of agents fail to return, the Agency gets the message.
They end up in Los Santos because there’s no one on the planet who would expect them to be there, and would expect even less for them to dip into crime. But, eventually, they do. They try not to at first, try to do right and help the city. Maybe it’s penance for all the blood on their hands. Maybe they want to create something, instead of destroying it. But that’s not how it works in Los Santos; the corruption is too deep in the city for them to fix things bloodlessly. But by then they’ve caught the attention of the Fakes. Geoff likes people who want to help his city. And with the resources Geoff has, maybe they can do some good after all.

So I’m really scared to post some of the stories I’ve written one has Jeremavinwood and the other has at least that maybe a couple of others thrown in. Jack/Geoff is also in both. Once a FAHC with an Agency twist and one is with majorly hurt Ryan and the lads rescuing him and taking care of him. I also have an OT6 with soul marks and a very mistreated Jeremy that isn’t in the Fakes but that slowly becomes found of them all and they all help each other. Do you think I should post them?
Absolutely! The ragehappy fandom always loves more fics! We love them all! And with such fantastic ships! And some great tropes too.
It’s also totally ok to be really nervous about posting things. I get that way too, but the ragehappy fandom is super nice and supportive! I know I’ll definitely give them a read and reblog! Just @ me or message me so i don’t miss them!

Battle Buddies
There's a new crew in the area that have been encroaching on fahc territory
They're ruthless, dangerous and have gotten close to taking out fahc members, nearly taking out Geoff (He had to fake his death just to be safe)
Trevor decides that he's gonna send someone under cover to infiltrate them and destroy them from inside out
He sends Ryan, because without the mask he's unrecognizable, and Jeremy, after shaving his Rimmy Tim hair so that he looks like a person
Together they go undercover as the Battle Buddies and join The Agency

undercover battle buddies defecting to the fakes?
Lol, omg, yessss!
I feel I always go the route of whatever agency/organization Ryan and Jeremy worked for when the battle Buddies became a thing being ~evil/corrupt?
But I’m in a Shenanigans kind of mood in which nothing hurts. (Much.)
SO.
Let’s say these two assholes actually work for a decent agency/organization that isn’t out to derail governments for fun and profit/otherwise take over the world, okay.
They’re just out there doing their best to protect their country and protect innocents and all this other good stuff. (But then Ryan and Jeremy come along and their superiors and handlers and everyone else Suffers because dear God they’re such assholes. Also that whole thing with the Mutual Pining that drags on for years before they sort their shit out, but that’s a tale for another time.)
They Battle Buddy it up, and after a while their bosses figure out it’s smarter to hand the missions requiring anything like subtlety/stealth to anyone else in the agency/organization if they don’t want another Incident on their hands.
Which is great, because it means they get the missions that require summer blockbuster movie levels of pyrotechnics and demolitions and all-out chaos.
And then, IDK, the FIB comes to them with a Problem or something else has their agency/organization looking at Los Santos.
Rumors this new crew making waves in the city’s criminal underground is Up To Something involving Really Bad Stuff. (New designer drug that kills a good percentage of its users, or running guns that are more heavy artillery than what typically makes it way into the city,  or human trafficking or something vile and all that, because plot reasons demand it. Something to have their bosses rightfully Concerned.)
And then for whatever reason they decide their best bet to getting to the bottom of things is sending these two assholes in undercover?
Sets them up with vague-ish backstories that even the Battle Buddies can’t fuck up, you know? (God knows Ryan has a habit of forgetting code names during missions to everyone’s exasperation/exasperated fondness?)
Something about former spec ops or government agents who were betrayed by their superiors and had to fake their deaths and go into hiding ad had to create new identities for themselves to stay under the radar and so on. (“...are you trying to tell us something?” and “Huh. That’s not at all concerning.”)
ANYWAY.
The usual backstory I love to use for these assholes in the FAHC AU, only it’s something their bosses came up with to explain their presence in Los Santos. Just another set of mercs with a Tragic Backstory looking to make a few bucks.
They run around for a bit, a few months working for small-time crews and so on, working on building up their reputations and all that fun stuff.
Problem is, it’s boring.
They don’t get to blow shit up anywhere near as much as they used to and whatever jobs they hired to do don’t need a lot of brainpower.
Ryan starts it, this slow decent into madness and fashion-related atrocities with the damn mask he picks up one day, right?
Shrugs when Jeremy asks what the deal is and makes up some story about this vicious killer he’s supposed to be wanting to keep his identity a mystery or some other BS and Jeremy is like “Okay, buddy,” like he’s not the one to suggest the face paint later on as a joke. (Forgot that this was Ryan he was talking to with that theater background and stubborn as hell and just kind of an idiot? But whatever. Ryan makes it work.)
Not to be outdone Jeremy pieces together Rimmy Tim over a few months. Kind of passive-aggressive about it when Ryan pulls a stupid stunt that almost gets him killed.
Sees a cowboy hat in a store window as he’s walking past because Ryan was all “I don’t see what the problem is,” and “It worked” and “You worry too much” and it was either go out for a bit to cool down or implode from his worry-fueled anger. (The rest follows after, to Ryan’s confusion/fear/disgust until Rimmy Tim is just as well-known as the Vagabond and their bosses and handlers are just like “What have we done,” setting these assholes loose on Los Santos the way they have, because seriously.)
A few months later and the Fakes go to them for a job because they’ve heard about these mercenaries and need the extra muscle.
There’s the whole Thing where Ryan is very Vagabond at them and Jeremy is very Rimmy Tim and the others are like, “Well, alright” because God knows they’re not exactly normal themselves, you know? What’s a couple more weirdos in the mix?
Crime-related shenanigans in which Ryan and Jeremy realize pretty quickly on the Fakes aren’t the ones behind all the Bad Stuff coming into Los Santos.
Like.
They’re assholes, but not that kind of assholes?
Also, they’re kind of going after all these other gangs and crews and whatever else’s that have been plaguing the city for years. Real assholes involved in Bad Stuff they’ve managed to get away with time and time again.
Ryan and Jeremy are just ~subtle with the whole “Why go after these assholes?” line of questioning, and get blank looks.
Because look, okay.
They have standards, and those assholes were bringing the city down, but before the Battle Buddies get the wrong idea, think the Fakes are Good Guys or whatever? Those assholes also had territory the Fakes wanted, prime real estate for their own criminal ventures and shit. Nothing noble about it, so stop with those looks, assholes.
Anyway, anyway.
The crew(s) behind the Bad Stuff happen to be the Fake AH Crew’s main rival(s), and they’re engaged in what amounts to all-out warfare.
Once Ryan and Jeremy realize what’s what, they’re all for helping the Fakes out because it’s kind of why they’re in Los Santos to start with? And also they end up liking these assholes they’re working with.
A little too much, really, because once they take out the assholes behind the Bad Stuff once and for all, they don’t want to leave?
Got a little too attached to the crew and their life in Los Santos, you know?
Don’t feel that keen about going back to work for the agency/organization even if they were treated well there because it was starting to wear on them. (Came way too close to burning out there before their latest assignment and it’s. Yeah.)
There’s a whole Thing in which they do go back, because Duty and whatnot, but they’re not happy and it shows.
They do their job, but it’s obvious to their bosses/handlers something is off with them. At first they think it’s related to the Los Santos assignment, but for the wrong reasons? Think having to pose as criminals and all that wasn’t the best idea and they’re having problems readjusting. (Which to be fair, they are, but again not for the reasons they’re thinking.)
This goes on for a while, until there’s another Situation in Los Santos, right? One that has Agent 14 going to the Battle Buddies because whatever the Situation is, it’s something that no one can know the IAA or whoever he works for was involved.
Somehow, Ryan and Jeremy have become the sekrit agent/operative/spy experts on Los Santos and the criminal element there given their time undercover there. Agent 14 goes to them asking how viable approaching the Fakes for help with the Situation would be and that -
Look.
They really like the Fakes, okay. Got along a little too well with them and their chaos and miss it a whole hell of a lot. (Kindred spirits and all that.)
To say they’re not pleased about Agent 14 and his bosses wanting to use the Fakes to fix their own mistakes would be an understatement. (They know how assholes like Agent 14 and his bosses work, okay. Know how incredibly lucky they’ve been to work for an agency/organization that gives a damn about them beyond how useful they are.)
So.
They manage to pull strings, call in favors whatever to make sure if/when Agent 14 does go to the Fakes Ryan and Jeremy go too.
(This is the point where their bosses/handlers realize why the two of them have been acting so weird since the Los Santos assignment and why and are just, SIGH because of course these assholes would get attached to the Fakes.)
Anyway.
Agent 14 goes to make a deal with the Fakes, and around the time Geoff asks why the hell they’d want to agree to any of it, Ryan and Jeremy pop up, all, “Hey, guys” and “Long time, huh?” and also “So, there’s a funny story about all this,” and go through the whole Thing of them being government agents/operatives and waiting for the fallout.
(There has to be one, right? All this anger/resentment and so on from the Fakes about being lied to and they’re all “This is a terrible idea” but like hell are they going to let Agent 14 and his agency/organization use the Fakes and most likely try to arrest them whatever afterward, so yeah.)
But!
“I fucking knew it!” and “You owe me fifty bucks,” and so on because of course the Fakes knew they were government agents/operatives, you know?
Maybe not at first, but they had Gavin or Matt or whoever looking into the Battle Buddies – small inconsistencies beyond their cover stories that didn’t feel right and general paranoia and so on. Always ready for the two of them to turn around and betray them.
(Also, though. Trust being built when perfect opportunities came up for just that and Ryan and Jeremy let them slide on by and the two of them disappearing after everything without a peep. The long months/year after that without undue trouble from various law enforcement fronts. Maybe some of them ~scheming ways to find them and see what the hell was going on with them now, if they needed help or were just fine for themselves and so on, because crew is crew is crew.)
Ryan and Jeremy being Baffled because there’s less Accusation and such going on than expected?
Geoff going up to them without a glance at Agent 14 and asking them if he should trust the asshole, help the government with their problem.
And there’s this moment where the two of them have to think about it, because it’s a valid question, you know?
If it was their agency/organization, they wouldn’t have to think too hard. (They’re all for Doing the Right Thing, and sometimes that means bending the rules just so.)
But this is Agent 14 and his bosses and so they’re like.
No, because they sure as hell don’t trust the asshole, but the problem he and his agency/organization have isn’t something they can ignore.
So.
They just tell him they’ll be working with them on this too, implication that if Agent 14 and his people try to screw the Fakes over they’d have to go through the Battle Buddies and their agency/organization first, and that’s not a fight 14 and his people would win, you know?
Geoff is just, “Good to hear,” and then the whole Thing where the Battle Buddies show back up in Los Santos and they help the Fakes deal with Agent 14’s problem and all that.
It’s not exactly smooth sailing, because sure the Fakes knew they were government agents/operatives and all that? But it’s different knowing and acting like they didn’t and having it out in the open like this.
Don’t really expect to be betrayed by them, but it’s weird as hell for a little while.
But then there’s an attack or something in which Ryan and Jeremy are so much themselves – ridiculous everything while explosions and fire is happening that the crew is like, “Well okay then” because that at least is the same.
All of them figuring out how they fit together as a crew (family) now and working out whatever lingering issues remain from all that.
And then!
When it’s all over and everyone expects Ryan and Jeremy to go back to their agency/organization, Agent 14 pops up all, “You know...” and makes a little suggestion for Ryan and Jeremy to take back to their usual lives about how handy it was having an asset like the Fakes available to them?
Like.
Really, really useful and all. Could be worth looking into, in case other Situations arise in the future?
And of course they think about it, because Agent 14’s not wrong.
Still.
Not likely to happen, so they go back to their agency/organization and go on missions and try to pretend they’re doing Just Fine.
Their bosses, though.
Get a visit from Agent 14 and his bosses, or just find a proposal from them regarding the Fakes and what a valuable asset they’ve proven to be. (And, you know. It could be a smart investment on their part to have liaisons and all that, in case of future Situations and do Ryan and Jeremy’s bosses have any suggestions for that spot???)
There’s a Thing where the agencies/organizations Plot because it’s not a bad idea at all. Is actually one of the better ones they’ve ever had, just need to iron out some details and all that before they make it a reality.
And then they do, because of course they do.
Call Ryan and Jeremy in for a meeting that has the two of them wary as hell. (Generally speaking, it’s not a good sign when it happens.)
They’re braced for some deeply unpleasant assignment and just kind of ??? at their bosses/handlers and Agent 14 and his bosses as they explain this new assignment they’re being given.
Because it all sounds too good to be true? Acting as liaisons between the Fakes and the agencies/organizations and all that.
Get to do whatever (within reason) until a Situation crops up, and then they’re expected to get the Fakes on board.
(Agent 14’s people seem to think it’s more of an OR ELSE kind of agreement, while their own people are just pls don’t make us regret this you assholes because they know how Ryan and Jeremy work and this is a Terrible Idea but what else can they do? Agent 14 is just kind of amused because like Ryan and Jeremy, he’s actually met the Fakes and kind of likes them, so yeah.)
ANYWAY.
Ryan and Jeremy get to go back to Los Santos and the Fakes who are assholes, sure, but are far from being the worst thing to ever happen to Los Santos. (Do a lot of good, actually, and pretend they don’t because ~hardcore criminal types who are Totally Ruthless and all that.)
Their agency/organization continues to Suffer because now they have this whole crew to worry about aside from their two idiot agents. (And vice versa, with a whole lot of commiserating going on between Geoff and B-Team and the government agency/organization and if the public ever found out it’d be a nightmare? But whatever, nothing worse than what the Battle Buddies have caused for them before.)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
